During Apollo 14 mission astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr. not only made history becoming the oldest man to walk on the moon at age 47; He also became the only man to  play golf on it after a hard days work collecting simples of course.

The Flight of Freedom 7

Launched from Cape Canaveral 62 years ago today Astronaut Alan B. Shepard, Jr. became the first American in Space, during a fifteen minute suborbital flight aboard the Mercury Redstone 4 capsule Freedom 7. After a successful mission Shepard's capsule splashdown in the Atlantic Ocean and was recovered aboard a waiting Aircraft Carrier the USS Lake Champlain; Taking America's earliest steps in the Space Race which would eventually led to American Astronauts walking on the moon eight years later.

Mercury Astronauts and a Redstone - January 7th, 1996.

"Space suited project Mercury astronauts John H. Glenn, Virgil I. Grissom, and Alan B. Shepard Jr. (left to right) are pictured here posing in front of a Redstone rocket in this 1961 NASA publicity photo. Project Mercury was the first U.S. program designed to put humans in space. It resulted in 6 manned flights using one-man capsules, and Redstone and Atlas rockets. Shortly after the first U.S. manned flight on May 5th, 1961, a suborbital flight piloted by Alan Shepard, President Kennedy announced the goal of a manned lunar landing by 1970. This goal was achieved by NASA's Apollo program and Shepard himself walked on the Moon as a member of the Apollo 14 mission."

Apollo 14... Playing golf on the lunar surface During the 1971 Apollo 14 lunar landing mission, commander Alan B. Shepard played a few golf shots in the Fra Mauro region on the Moon! NASA astronauts and sports always went together... 5 decades ago “Golf” became the sport of almost every astronaut as in 1968, astronaut chief Deke Slayton requested that he could play with other astronauts  and approached Golf-pro Danny Lawler to give the Apollo astronauts some  private lessons. Veteran-astronaut Alan Shepard was a keen golf player since the Mercury days and had the idea to play golf on the Moon ! On Apollo 14, Commander Shepard carried a make-shift Iron-6 attached to a geologic sample stick and hit two golf balls on the Moon. The make of the Golf balls was never revealed but the actual Golf stick sits in the U.S.G.A. museum in New Jersey - USA. i have a whole actual draft about this that i need to finish but im forever haunted by brenner calling shepard "son" & being distressed when shepard dies/showing the most emotion he shows in S1/the only time he hits TFS brenner levels of angry/upset (vs the whole "you have to be your dad" thing in tfs/the idea that tfs brenner jr is behaving the way brenner sr behaved)-

-vs shepard also resembling brenner jr quite a bit (especially 15 year old brenner) AND the parallel between the closeup of shepard turning around in his suit here vs the closeup of brenner jr turning around in his suit in the tfs trailer....

and there's smthn about the "father and son" line between tfs henry and brenner vs 7 year old tfs henry having the same sort of dark/brown hair that *shepard* has vs the idea that either 14 year old henry or 7 year old henry was actually edward vs "shepard" and eddie "edward's" munson about "lost little sheep"/him being a shepard figure vs all of the weird brenner-edward connecions.... shepard quick who ARE you/who are you delivering subtext for??? not to mention this shepard vs alan shepard & alan shepard's moon stuff/being the first american in space and the fifth oldest person to walk on the moon vs all of brenner sr's moon stuff & the moon stuff in tfs/the dark of the moon and alan shepard vs alan munson & alan munson having a.) dark hair like 7 year old henry but also b.) also having hairstyle parallels to henward....
