the daymare games suck balls, the outbreak games that are so in love with the concept of resident evil outbreak but utterly incapable of capturing it are actual dogshit, everything is bad

A Kit in A Forest:

Love Bird spent much longer at their home forest village than any of his other siblings, but it also took him twice as long to hit puberty. As a kit in the forest they went by a different name, only taking on the name 'Love Bird' years and year later. Their forest name was Rune, a name only a handful know in present day. (When talking about his childhood he uses mostly they/them pronouns, once he was ripped from his home and his puberty hit he begins to use he/him pronouns.) While their life in their home forest was simple, Rune loved it. They excelled at archery, the shining star of their village. Other than keeping the area safe there was no hint of danger when it hit them. Rune was patrolling with his eldest sister, Leif, and 2 family friends, Maja and Frida, when a small armed Garlean unit attacked. Leif was killed protecting to others, Maja and Frida taking severe wounds but in the end they were captured with Rune.

Prisoner of Garlemald:

He was ripped away from his home and from the body of his sister. While in transit Rune’s puberty hit, ripping away his name and his ‘normal’ body all while captive. For a Viera he was quite young, Maja and Frida being only a decade older than he, at 80 he should have been grown and already set on a stable path forward in life. Now he had nothing. Kept separated from Maja and Frida, he was eventually broken from their usual torture. Taking no name, and given no name in turn by the Garleans, he goes mostly nameless other than his assassin moniker, Shade. During the end of Heavensward and beginning of Stormblood he is put on the trail of Zee and informed she is his mark. Kill her or they destroy his village, no failure allowed. Upon Zee and Shade's first meeting, and fight, Shade manages to injure Zee before having to retreat. This small 'success' (in his eyes) gives him cause to return, report, and recover. Upon this return, one deemed un-needed by his handler after his arrival, Shade is kept for an experimental 'treatment' before they return him to his hunt. Shade and Zee end up clashing 3 more times before his handler decides he is a failure. Upon Shade's final return to his prison he is met with an attack, ending in him shot in the chest. Zee and the scions find him there, dying in the snow, unable to leave him they heal him and take him into their care as he recovers. After being in a small coma for a few days he awakens in a wholly new place, tucked away from prying eyes in the Scions base. Deliriously he manages to stumble out an 'escape', doing his best to make it to his home, his village. It took far too long for his liking but he made it there finally. Met with the sight of the long destroyed rubble of his home he decided he must be reborn. Zee and the Scions find him shortly after his arrival, Zee offering him a place within their ranks if he wants, or simply a place to recover before starting a new life for himself.

Love Bird chooses to fight with the Scions.

Freedom:

Kugane served as Love Bird's new home between working with the Scions, doing errands for Tataru (both Scion and non-Scion work), and recovering from the many injuries both old and new. The calm, busy, peace of the city helped with even the worst insomniac nights he was haunted by. It was there he took his 'City' name, after quite a while of going by 'Rune' again until he settled on his perfect name. But he did not have long to integrate himself into the Scions before they, and eventually even he, were whisked off to an unprepared for adventure.

A Strange Land, a strange quest:

Love Bird is taken by the Crystal Exarch after Alphinaud, choosing to stay in the Crystarium and do odd jobs where he can before the others show up. He bonds with Alisae a lot in the years between other arrivals, learning many different ways to fight to best help when she called upon his aid. This is where he begins to play around with creating what will go on to become his evasion tank, BladeWeaver. Right before Zee arrives in the First Love Bird finally leaves to travel to Eulmore in an attempt to get in and learn from a Master Dancer at the Beehive. Luckily his beautiful voice and skill with instruments got him easy entrance and so his learning began (until Zee managed to get into Eulmore and pick him up for her party)!

The Creation of BladeWeaver:

Throughout Love Bird's time in the First he had secretly been working on a new way to battle, combining the skills of Dancer and Ninja with the magics of Dark Knight. A way for him to tank while using all of his skills as an assassin. It took quite some time before he was ready to unveil it for battle, spending endless nights with Sidguru sparing and testing things. Finally, for their trip to Tural, Love Bird has become confident enough to step into the light of Tank with his creation! (More BladeWeaver lore to come in its own little post since I can't make this longer than it already it >.<)

Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail done, here's some MSQ spoiler thoughts:

I've had XIV on ice for a while so I was going into it as a casual and not a diehard fangirl but still I am shocked and disappointed by how bored I was during the whole thing… And annoyed, which is a bigger crime. Constantly wondering why characters act like they do or why they aren't asking about X.

Alphinaud and Alisae did nothing and they were both an eyesore with their old outfits, dressing them in local threads would've been so easy and a cute way to buff the immersion of visiting a new continent. (To be fair I guess they HAVE to tag along even if the writer doesn't want them there due to Trusts? I'd argue Krile and Erenville were just pieces of furniture until the very last stretch too but they were at least interested in the same goal as Wuk Lamat so they didn't feel out of place.)

My fav stuff is interacting and bonding with characters new and old but it doesn't feel like we got much of that? Trying to picture what people will even draw fanart of for DT of and all my mind's eye can see is Wuk Lamat lovers drawing WoLship art or just her looking cute and/or hot. (Also Erenville looking cute and/or hot.)

Doing a "sweet girl turns into massive threat" right after a "sweet girl turns into massive threat" expansion is rather brazen but it is a Classic so whatever. Would've been neat if she was an adult woman instead.

I could probably rant about several particular moments but I can feel myself slowly starting to morph into a WORST expansion EVER red-arrow-and-circle YouTube thumbnail which would be rather unsexy of me so I'll go ahead and choose happiness by listing the things I enjoyed instead;

Starting with the incredible lvl 93 weapons!!!! They all look like bland NPC pieces which is something super rare in this game, such a breath of fresh air. The NIN daggers especially is pure 10/10 and I was even considering changing my never-glamming-it-away ARR longbow into the new BRD one. The new sets are good too, I'm not much for scifi-y gear but the ones you get before Solution 9 are very nice and the aiming top gave my lizard a very lovely waist. I was really lucky to get the golden bangle hand drop that all Tuliyollal NPCs wear so I could fit in proper :3 Tweaking my main glam slightly to blend into each new areas better was a big source of fun.

Zoraal Ja bringing back an SSR Alpaca made me chuckle.

The moblin pot contract stuff is very endearing, basically they are keeping a crafter as a personal pet to love and pamper so they can do their best work? Such a cute Human Cattle aligned setup even though it's a mutual agreement and not actual ownership.

I liked the little merchant/seller skit we do with Koana even if my main glee was just seeing him wear something that didn't clash with his teal hair.

I perked up during the cooking contest introduction since it seemed like the chance for shenanigans was high, but they didn't really play around with it. At least we got Alisae musing to herself about Zuraal Ja and Baka Ja Ja in matching aprons 👌 Is the Fu awakening in you, my girl…?

Bakool Ja Ja doing his best to help out and getting a little flustered when receiving thanks after having been a stupid miserable bully that pretty much set off a nuke willy-nilly was nice, but only bcs I tend to clap like a seal no matter what when this trope appears. Since I am choosing happiness I'm not gonna comment more on his character.

The play was delightful as was the FF9 town wink in general (I also laughed for the wrong reasons at poor Otis doing a voice gag in an unvoiced cutscene, at least it still got the gist across well.)

Blessed be. It was rather predictable him and Wuk Lamat would end up as a duo ruler pair to cover each other's weaknesses, but her energetic public marriage proposal and stone carving to truly show off their union ran with the premise more than what I had braced for!

Love him feeling super jealous and obviously having been crying in the shower over WoL getting asked about a place in his sister's court [before he knew he had a place too] and then later him also clearly feeling threatened when she states that she views the WoL as one of her beloved siblings too. So pathetic clearly wanting to be the only Brother™ in her life ❤

I was kinda eyes emoji at Zoraal Ja too when he was staring at his sister with icy contempt, emboldened by my incest win when it came to the catboy I dared to dream that the oldest brother also harbored some obsessive feelings towards her that he didn't know how to handle, but that's not quite what happened… It's a shame we didn't get flashbacks of all those siblings together in various stages of life, I kept forgetting they were actually family so Wuk Lamat angsting over her evil brother made me go Oh Right every time I got reminded.

Lastly it wasn't quite part of the MSQ but the chuuni villain roundtable intro for the Role Quests was very silly (positive) and probably the most entertained I was during these past 4 days. Well, besides the actual trial fights being fun but I don't count those for story.

Ignoring the "human" faces and only going by the world the graphics/lighting update is very nice! My guy made it out OK but it stings a bit every time I see his mouth having had its charm nerfed. Very impressed by the not-Vanu Vanu, Horthgals and Mamool Jas facial expressions. However, hairstyles all look worse than before, so soft and "washed out"? I'm exaggerating for effect rn but Koana looks like he has a soft teal cloud as hair basically? And the twins' white hair is now too uniformly white without the darker hair strand lines…

The inn room is probably the nicest looking one we've gotten so far, both luxurious and cozy vibes. Always crack up seeing my Au Ra in bed nothing says relaxation like a super stiff coffin pose.

Quite bummed I couldn't find as much excitement as in previous expacks and I probably won't bother renewing sub for a while, but at least I already have other fandoms to keep me occupied.

Rhaena probably cries when she awakens. It was triplets, so it was such a rough labor.. she was exhausted.. she cries when she discovers he named the eldest after her in part. They'd spoken of names before, of course. Rhaena had quite liked a name she'd heard often in the Vale, Aelle... when she hears the eldest girls name, and realizes he not only went with her preferred choice but had added the beginning of her name to it.. he waited until she awoke so she could help in naming the other two.. they hadn't been prepared for three girls, hehehe..

They were stopped in Volantis at the time.. staying long enough for her to heal and the babes to grow strong.. before moving on to Asshai...

Oh, imagine the soft look on Aemonds face when Rhaena suggested Alisa for the second babe, a mix of her fathers mother, Alyssa.. and Alicent, for him.. he'd have the soft look on his face like he did when Alicent held his face in s2... looking down at little Alisa to hide from his wife... still not quite used to sharing these emotions with her so openly as she does...

He knows she also wishes to name the youngest after another loved one.. he lets her choose. She messes with him because she can. At first suggesting Lucerra, his sharp glare and disbelief on his face making her laugh heartily as she nuzzles his shourlder tiredly, shushing him and resting her hand on his cheek, brushing her knuckles near his sapphire, him having started going longer and longer without his eyepatch in their time away. She likes it, he doesn't hide his face or eye as much anymore.. after a moment, and he calms, she suggests Daena. For her father. He doesn't particularly like it, he doesn't lie, but whatever she wishes. Daemon is her father, much as these two hate each other, he'll accept it... but she knows him. Doesn't want him to have to, so she instead suggests Daenys, the name of the Dreamer yes, but a mix for Daemon + Rhaenys, adding the end of her beloved grandmothers name.. he likes it much better... it brings memories of his dreamer sister as well..

Imagine Rhaenys and Laena reacting to meeting the triplets when they return. Though Rhaenys is still watching Meleys closely as her and Cannibal have their reunion, and looking very closely at Morning, who's grown to nearly match Sunfyre in size now, bigger than she'd have been if she grew locked in the dragonpis or the dragonmount. She grew very quickly living free and wild across the seas, it seemed.. and does look so much like Meleys the longer you look, coloring aside..

Imagine Alicents face.. and Aegons. When they do eventually have to make their way to the capital to address their Queen and King Consort upon their return away for so long... when they see them walking in, married now. With the three girls... and another to follow... Alicents face when she hears the second girl is called Alisa...

(Not me now picturing Cannibal being that sire and his grumpiness melting away as he starts introducing Morning to Meleys like 'look! She's ours! look at our girl! look at how she's grown, did I do good..' 💀 now I want them to meet Tessarion oops)

I CANT DEAL! WHY IS THIS ALL TOO CUTE!

I adore the names so much; they are both so precious to each other and we love to see it.

Of course, Alicent completely melts at the namesake of her whilst Aemond moves towards Helaena and presses a soft kiss to her cheek in greeting.
