Ah yes the (or some i guess) Kazuya stans wanting Jin to be treated like Kazuya AS IF Jin is meant to be the bad guy villain of the story. Have we played the games??? Tek6 was an outlier he never acted like that before, and I blame Harada for that mess. Isn't it obvious they want to fix that disaster with Tek8? Like I understand people disliking Jin, but let's be real, it was out of character and just plain bad writing. It's very different from Kazuya's development, you know the guy who gradually became the villain??? I'm sorry but I will defend Jin as well. People just say anything these days lol

"Jin knew full well what he was doing/was in control" lmao. Yeah, at the time, "he was." But the point the fans are making is that it's a poorly written game, and Jin doesn't behave like Jin in it, hence why we want it to be retconned. Like bad writing, it exists. It would be like if you were playing Mario and Mario suddenly told Peach he wasn't going to save her because he got tired of constantly doing it, and then laughing at her situation with Bowser right in her face, and now he's actually helping Bowser terrorize Mushroom Kingdom and shit. Like yeah, Mario knows what he's doing in the context of this story, but it doesn't mean fans won't call it out for being drastically out of character and saying it makes no sense for the character to make such a sudden turn in personality.

And maybe some fans do say Kazuya did all his evil wevil things and Jin didn't. But that may be because of Kazuya's downward spiral and how many can still debate Kazuya's struggles in Tekken 2. The main thing being that Kazuya was kinda on a tight rope that was leaning toward the bad side (he was already doing tons of criminal activities. But Angel and Devil were supposed to represent the good versus the bad in him) and he just happened to fall off the rope to the bad side. Other than some parts where he acts cartoonishly evil, there isn't a noticeably major change in Kazuya's personality / behavior. Meanwhile, there's a VERY noticeable change in Jin's behavior, especially when he's never been established as a bad person, or even much of a potentially bad person.

You can't look at these and tell me this is the same guy. It's not. This isn't Jin. He goes against everything his character was in the previous games. Also, idgaf if some try to use the excuse "well he was just PRETENDING to be bad 'cos the war needed it!!!111!!" It's like I think the whole world's in enough despair to awaken Azazel that he doesn't need to be cruel to a couple of his friends, or people who were on his side (Alisa). Like he was unnecessarily cruel, to the point where I think the Pre-6 Jin would literally cringe at it LOL.

Harada is also to blame because yeah he was the only one who wanted this, upon realizing it wasn't just the writers who didn't - but also the fans, they're finally getting back to Jin's roots and making him the rightful good hearted man he was and God I fucking hope they retcon Tek6 to oblivion (at least Jin's characterization, y'know)

I guess I'll end with this note: You can absolutely dislike a character, and you can be annoyed by their fans. But you can still acknowledge when a character you dislike is being written poorly and is behaving out of character. I don't care for Ganryu, but if he's skinny and suddenly acts like he hates Julia with no given reason in the next game, I'm definitely gonna question it and say "that's not how Ganryu would act wtf"

do you have any Eroica fics that you'd recommend?

hello 5 month old ask. i certainly do now (i'm a slow reader). mostly in no particular order

the nuclear option - this one is the creme de la creme it's my favorite ever and because it's focused on dorian (a trend here) yearning it's naturally the best in the fandom. there's some sexual tension on in the middle and sex at the end if u care about that but overall such a great fanfic love it to bits

journey - this fanfic eternally altered my brain chemistry and i was never the same after reading it. it also focuses on dorian which again makes it one of the best. it also awakened my love for tyrian persimmon. i don't like the ending though, and also warning for klaus throwing around F slurs on this one

a different sort of day - same writer as nuclear option. so fucking good. a bit of a wacky premise (bodyswap)but the author is so good they sell it completely, i Love the way that they write dorian and eberbach it's perfect to me

trains, automobiles and planes series - this one is just pure fluff and it's so cute. my favorite in terms of long series, genuinely puts a smile in my face every time i read it

operation backside - this one is klaus/Z (needn't get into the power dynamics here) nd despite the nsfw premise it's not gotten there yet. i just found this one sweet and really funny

you drift through the years and life seems tame / till one dream appears and love is its name - as the author puts it in the tags, "OC is a big sexy spyman here to fuck up the status quo". a lot of romantic/sexual tension, and i especially love this author's portrayal of dorian but especially eberbach (i can't explain it, but if you read 5 eroica fanfics and then this one you'll see what i mean). overall great writing, great premise and great ending, i love this author to bits :')

a good wife - very much nsfw (there's an underage warning, but there isn't underage sex, i think the author put it wrong). another wacky premise of dorian pretending to be eberbach's wife for his dad (edit: why the fuck did i write pretending to be his dad), but it's extremely entertaining, i find it really funny, and it has my favorite (funniest) moment i've read in any fanfic

however there's some dubious, in my opinion, portrayal of klaus' father (if you've been in my blog for a while you know how i feel about him), and the ending is pretty bad, and for it i must give a trigger warning for attempted suicide. said favorite fanfic moment below though

hesitation waltz - this one is VERY long, pretty much solely focuses on eberbach, but my friend really likes it (and him) so i'm sending it for her. hi alisa lol (this one might have slurs as well, but i can't recall)

silent night arc - despite the explicit rating, i think most of these are suggestive at most? i don't remember any explicit sex. also very long. this is another one it's more my friends wh olike it, but they're cute so they go here as well

this is all the big ones i can remember right now lol, i also have a whole plethora of trashy nsfw fanfics, both for Oh You Know reasons and also "so bad it's good" ones, but i think this list is a good start. there's a lot of eroica fanfics out there, a lot of them batshit, extremely racist and overall tasteless (trust me this isn't even scratching the surface), but these are some of mine (and my friends) favs so here ❤️🌹

If these two don't get the spotlight they deserve in Tekken 8 I'm rioting.

Bandai Namco has been trying hard to push Asuka and Lili as the new main female rivalry and while I like them as characters they're not it. They're not Nina and Anna, they're just younger and cuter than them and I'm kinda done with this "old hag" treatment from Namco when they kept them young through cryosleep simply because they were the two most iconic female characters from the first two games and they wanted to have them around looking young for whatever reason. Anna should also be allowed to stand on her own as a character and not just be an afterthought to have Nina battle with someone.

Nina was shown to be capable enough of running the Mishima Zaibatsu in Jin's absence but then cut ties with them after Alisa beat her to a draw (Jesus Christ...) and Anna's story about how Nina killed her fiance on the day of their wedding and that's why she's wearing a wedding dress felt more like an afterthought and wasn't even shown through cutscenes or something.

Their portrayal in Bloodline was an ever bigger shitshow however... Nina losing to Xiaoyu?? XIAOYU?? What the actual fuck? Yes I get that Xiaoyu and Hwoarang had to be shown of being capable fighters because they're Jin's friends and it's a Jin-centric storyline but Nina in particular was part of that narrative too! She awoke prematurely from cryosleep by Ogre's influenced and was under mind control throughout the tournament to hunt down and kill Jin, but after their fight she came through but had amnesia as a result of her premature awakening and Ogre's meddling. Anna and Steve made some nonimpactful cameos and didn't even interact with her in Bloodline. Why feature them at all then??

I demand the celebrity treatment they deserve!

They have so many interesting nuances to their characters too. Nina is like really cold blooded and bitchy but her goals seem to usually align with the good guys while Anna, who is still bitchy but in a more flirty and playful way, and is shown to be much more willing to make amends with Nina and stop their fighting ends up siding with the bad guys more often than not. I want more of this explored even further than them being reserved for side stories and nonimpactful cameos.

Babylon 5 s01 E21: Legacies

Funerals are where family feuds come to light. Plus war trauma triggers for Sinclair.

Omfg. Talia and Susan!! having chemistry!! I’ve been waiting for this all season.

Double drama! An impoverished, telepathic thief, and an ostensibly honor guard Minbari war cruiser coming in for a funeral with its guns ready to fire. B5 has so far often had plot lines that didn’t directly converge but I kinda think these might.

It’s a good time, thematically, to be reminded that the Minbari are a powerhouse of the galaxy and they, along with the Narn and Centauri, are sorta just politely allowing the humans to pretend they’re a power as well while hanging out on B5. Sinclair’s PTSD reaction created an almost eerie dichotomy for me between the nonthreatening-seeming Delenn and the war history reality.

Ah, this thief is a child and a new psi talent. Another obvious ptsd trigger, but for Ivanova. I don’t know what she thinks she could do to protect her from the psicorps, but maybe there’s a secret, anti-facist psi network I don’t know about.

It’s kind of both bold and threatening to roll through Babylon 5 with one of the war leaders who kicked the humans’ asses from one end of the milky way to the other.

Minbari politics, yes! They are so opaque. I’ve been waiting for the great and terrible things that happen when the religious and warring castes of Minbari society agree, but I’m also down to see them disagreeing.

Alisa Beldon, a 14 year old orphan on a space station with no safety net, no money, no way home, and no control over her newly awakened abilities. I understand why Ivanova wants to keep her from the psicorps, but charging her as an adult to the fullest extent of the law is the worst possible way to go about it.

Some immediate differences between the Minbari castes. Warrior Guy wants to fight, wants to force capitulation. Sees speaking to Sinclair as a fight to win. Delenn wants to get on with the ceremony.

Oooo missing corpse!

Politics! I theorize some Minbari stole the body in order to restart the war. And perhaps even a member of the religious caste.

Culture! There is caste mobility, and the war against humanity was triggered by Dukhat’s accidental death and was considered to be a holy war against humanity. And the warrior caste did not uniformly respect the religious caste’s call that it was time for the war to end.

It is fascinating that they ended the war against humanity by surrendering, though it doesn’t seem like they lost power by surrendering.

Options for Alisa! Being a mitochondrial eve for the future of Narn telepaths as a lone human on their planet is sure an option of all time.But she doesn’t seem to like her glimpse of Na’Toth’s mind.

I’m kind of impressed that the war hasn’t restarted already over Branmer’s body.

More culture! I hadn’t known (or remembered?) that the Centauri blitzed the Narn planet. But it does make sense how much they hate each other now. Bummer that the Narn responded by out-slaving and out-warring the Centauri.

Minbari telepaths serve the greater good. And here’s the Alisa/Branmer connection! Love it when I (at least partially) guess correctly.

Don’t attack thirty-nine year olds who look as prematurely old as Sinclair. He’s lived a hard life, gotta be scrappy.

What did I say! Religious caste Minbari know what’s up with the body. But I am pretty sure Delenn doesn’t want to restart the war.

OK, let Delenn try to cover this up and fake a religious miracle. Gatekeep, gaslight, girlboss your way out of this, Delenn.

Yeah the Grey Council doesn’t know about this. She’s really, really risking a lot with this play. Sinclair really is an excellent diplomat when he’s not mid-war-flashback. Neroon is delighted for the honor of Branmer being praised by Sinclair to the Star Raiders even though Delenn just spanked him good.

Human/Minbari relations could do a lot worse than hoping an idealistic teenage who’s been failed by the system repeatedly will bring some connection to the two.

HBO has upped their game and is blocking my screen recording again, so just picture some lovingly rendered gifs of Susan and Talia eyefucking each other here. I’ll find a way to make that true sooner or later.

After my multi-week break I kinda almost miss the Centauri. I definitely miss the Narn but I’m delighted that Na’Toth was featured in this episode. And all the history and culture! I’m impressed by how this could have felt like infodumping but actually made me feel like a feast was parading before me on an unstoppable conveyer belt.

This is a beautifully crafted show, and knowing that Sinclair is on the way out as a series regular is making me appreciate his performance all the more. He is absolutely nailing every aspect of this and truly feels like a fully-realized, complex person. The tension is building immaculately, and he’s sweeping it higher and higher even as the side plots get tidied away.

I am SO HERE for Susan and Talia. MORE OF THAT. They were both babed out to the max. Out here fighting but with fresh hairstyles and immaculate outfits. Augh, I’m so pissed that HBO’s anti screen recording is working today.
