Pegula galip gelirse kariyerinde ilk kez unvan korumuş olacak. ABD'li oyuncu kariyerindeki 3. WTA 1000 zaferini ve toplamdaki 6. turnuva şampiyonluğunu hedefleyecek. Vatandaşı Anisimova ise kariyerinde ilk defa WTA 1000 finalinde boy gösterecek. Yağmur ertelemeleri nedeniyle sarkan turnuvada oluşan karmaşayı iyi değerlendiren Anisimova, Ocak 2022'deki Melbourne Summer Set zaferinden sonra ilk şampiyonluğunu tatmayı isteyecek. Toplamda ise kariyerinin 3. kupasını arayacak. Karmaşık geçen organizasyonda güzel bir kapanış dileriz. İki tarafa da başarılar.
Her iki raketin de final yolu:
-Jessica Pegula-
#1. Tur = bay.
#2. Tur = Karolina Pliskova (7-5, 6-4)
#3. Tur = Ashlyn Krueger (6-2, 6-4)
#Çeyrek Final = Peyton Stearns (6-4, 7-5)
#Yarı Final = Diana Shnaider (6-4, 6-3)
-Amanda Anisimova-
#1. Tur = Caroline Dolehide (6-1, 6-4)
#2. Tur = Daria Kasatkina (6-4, 6-3)
#3. Tur = Anna Kalinskaya (6-2, 0-0,ret.)
Tebrik ederiz.

Saskatoon Challenger 2023 (Saskatoon, Canada)
16-year-old Canadian Victoria Mboko successfully defended her title yesterday at the Saskatoon Challenger with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over world No. 140 Emina Bektas. This is Mboko’s biggest ITF singles title to date as the tournament was upgraded from a W25 to a W60 this year. Mboko is now part of a select group of just seven other players who have won an ITF W60 title before turning 17 (with Mirra Andreeva, Sára Bejlek, Clara Tauson, Linda Nosková, Amanda Anisimova, Marta Kostyuk and Alina Korneeva).

US Open 2024: Coco Gauff beats Varvara Gracheva in first round to start title defence
Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen fought back from a set down to beat world number 50 Amanda Anisimova 4-6 6-4 6-2 on Louis Armstrong Stadium. Anisimova raced out to a 5-1 first-set lead but twice failed to serve out the first set, before breaking Zheng for the third time to close it out. But Zheng, a little over three weeks on from her Olympic triumph in Paris, recovered well and served superbly…

Toronto (pt. 2)
The tournament ended up being a straightforward one – even with a few rain delays, everything was wrapped up promptly. The singles & doubles finals took place on a Monday rather than the typical Sunday – merci a les Olympiques – and both had a strong North American flavor flavour to the latter stages:
Once the doubles draw reached the SF stage, the bottom half consisted of 4 American players whilst the top comprised 3 Canadians (plus New Zealander Erin Routliffe who has Canadian parentage and represented them for a large chunk of her career). We were thusly guaranteed a derby derby game in the final, which went the way of Team USA - Dolehide & Krawczyk beating Dabrowski & Routliffe in a match tie-break (I blame the Kiwi).
In the singles draw, 5 American players made the QFs, 3 made the SFs, and then Jessica Pegula faced off against Amanda Anisimova in an all-American showdown. JPeg eventually outclassed Anisimova in the final set but her young opponent made her dig deep and earn it – evidenced by the emotional yell Pegula let out when she reclaimed the title she won last year.
There was a cute moment during the trophy presentation: as Pegula was giving her winner’s speech, she was surprised to spot her grandparents in her players box! She told the crowd that they are both Canadian – one from Toronto, one from Montreal – and dedicated her two Canadian Open titles to them; this is especially cute because the tournament is hosted in Toronto and Montreal alternately each year, so she’s got a Toronto title for Granddad and a Montreal title for Granny!

Roland Garros 2024 Women’s Prediction:
Sabalenka to Clinch Her Maiden Title
As the French Open draws near, the debate over who will lift the Roland Garros trophy intensifies. Despite Iga Swiatek's dominance in recent years, my pick for this year’s champion is Aryna Sabalenka. Here’s why.
Swiatek’s Draw: Potential Roadblocks Ahead
Swiatek, the three-time champion, faces a series of potential upsets along her path:
1st Round: A breeze against a Qualifier/Lucky Loser.
2nd Round: Naomi Osaka, despite her struggles on clay, could pose a threat with her powerful game.
3rd Round: No issues against Kudermetova or Bouzkova, both of whom have exploitable weaknesses.
4th Round: Krejcikova, a former champion at Roland Garros, stands out as a formidable opponent with a strong head-to-head record.
Quarters: Big hitters like Collins, Kostyuk, or Vondrousova could challenge Swiatek’s consistency on clay.
Semis: The semifinal stage presents a potential matchup with Coco Gauff, Jelena Ostapenko, Caroline Garcia, Ons Jabeur, Dayana Yastremska, or Amanda Anisimova. Gauff is a consistent performer but has struggled against Swiatek in the past. Ostapenko, with a perfect 4-0 record against Swiatek, poses the biggest threat. Garcia, Jabeur, Yastremska, and Anisimova all have the capability to upset Swiatek on their day. Come semifinal day, expect to see one of two Czechs, Krejcikova or Vondrousova, squaring off against Ostapenko or Anisimova.
Given these hurdles, I predict Swiatek will struggle to make it to the finals this year.
Sabalenka’s Path: Primed for Success
On the other hand, Aryna Sabalenka’s path seems more navigable:
1st Round: The elder Andreeva sister should be a straightforward match.
2nd Round: No significant threats from potential qualifiers/lucky losers.
3rd Round: Possible matchups with Badosa, Stephens, or Putinseva could be tests, but Sabalenka’s recent form should see her through.
4th Round: Easier opponents like Navarro, Schmiedlova, Keys, or Sherif are unlikely to derail her.
Quarters: Sabalenka’s dominance over potential rivals such as Kasatkina, Andreeva, Azarenka, Noskova, and Sakkari gives her a clear edge.
Semis: The biggest challenge might come from Elena Rybakina, who has the weapons to compete with Sabalenka. Other potential semifinalists include Elise Mertens, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Diane Parry, Elina Svitolina, Jasmine Paolini, Sorana Cirstea, and Qinwen Zheng. Among these, Svitolina and Paolini could pose significant threats, but Sabalenka's power game should prevail.
If Sabalenka continues her strong performances, especially in high-pressure situations, she looks poised to make her first French Open final.
The Final Showdown
Should Swiatek and Sabalenka both reach the final, history suggests a compelling battle. Despite Swiatek’s recent wins in Madrid and Rome, Sabalenka’s potential breakthrough on the Roland Garros clay could see her lifting the trophy. Recall the surprises of past finals where underdogs like Mats Wilander in 1985 and Andrés Gómez in 1990, who had lost to the favorites in precursor events, triumphed when it mattered at the big event.
Other potential finalists to challenge Sabalenka include Krejcikova, Ostapenko, Collins, Jabeur, Vondrousova, and Gauff. Among these, Vondrousova and Gauff present the biggest challenges, with their strong clay court games and grand slam experience.
Expect the unexpected in Paris, but keep an eye on Sabalenka—this could be her year to shine on the grand stage of Roland Garros.

27 Ocak 2024 Zheng Qinwen Aryna Sabalenka Maçı
*Rod Laver Arena'da saat 11:45'te başlayacak olan Avustralya Açık Tek Kadınlar Final maçı. Zheng kariyerinde ilk kez bir Grand Slam finali oynayacak. Tam 10 sene önce burada zafere ulaşan Li Na'nın izinden gidip Çin'i yeniden sevindirmeyi amaçlıyor. 2. Grand Slam şampiyonluğunun peşinde olacak o da. Güzel bir heyecanla kapanışı yapalım. Maçın adı birçok şey vadediyor. Umalım ki iyi bir bitiriş gelir. Başarılar iki oyuncuya da.
Her iki raketin de final yolu:
-Zheng Qinwen-
#1. Tur = Ashlyn Krueger (3-6/6-2/6-3)
#2. Tur = Katie Boulter (6-3/6-3)
#3. Tur = Wang Yafan (6-4/2-6/7-6[10-8])
#4. Tur = Oceane Dodin (6-0/6-3)
#Çeyrek Final = Anna Kalinskaya (6-7[4-7]/6-3/6-1)
#Yarı Final = Dayana Yastremska (6-4/6-4)
-Aryna Sabalenka-
#1. Tur = Ella Seidel (6-0/6-1)
#2. Tur = Brenda Fruhvirtova (6-3/6-2)
#3. Tur = Lesia Tsurenko (6-0/6-0)
#4. Tur = Amanda Anisimova (6-3/6-2)
Tebriklerimizi sunuyoruz.

ao round of 16 observations (aka matches that I think are gonna be interesting that I want to talk about):
atp:
fritz v tsitsipas: no one, including myself, thought this projected match was going to happen. taylor is known for losing in early rounds of slams and stefanos’ form lately has been terrible. and yet, here we are. I don’t think there’s a clear winner here: taylor’s serve could cause major problems for stefanos, but stefanos will certainly be able to take advantage of taylor’s lackluster movement. whoever can maintain good form for the longest is going to win. but, I will say, if a set goes to a tiebreak then I think taylor has a slight advantage because his serve + stefanos’ returning issues will be a major help
de minaur v rublev: like fritz/tsitsipas, there’s a lot of pros and cons for both of them. andrey hits the ball so much harder than alex that it’s kind of ridiculous, but alex’s speed is also ridiculous, and he has a fired-up home crowd. but the reason I honestly think alex is going to win this match is because he will frustrate andrey so much that andrey will start playing worse and spiral. also, alex actually has a positive h2h against andrey and that was even before the insane form he’s in right now
sinner v khachanov: so a quick glance at their h2h makes this very interesting: jannik leads, but karen’s only win over him was at a grand slam, which he is known for peaking at. karen is really weird because he usually has some pretty lackluster results and then randomly makes the semifinals of a grand slam. if this was any other tournament I would say this is an easy win for jannik, but karen khachanov at grand slams (especially hard court grand slams) is no joke, and he’ll definitely be a challenge for jannik who has otherwise had some incredibly easy matches so far
wta:
andreeva v krejcikova: admittedly I haven’t watched any of barbora’s matches this tournament, but from what I’ve heard she hasn’t been playing that great and has barely been winning. this is a great opportunity for mirra, who is coming off of that insane comeback and has great momentum right now. if she can play like she did against ons and like she did during those last few games in her round 3 match, I think she can absolutely win this
sabalenka v anisimova: finally a challenge for aryna. she has been coasting through her matches and she looks unstoppable, but I honestly think that’s gonna hurt her mentality in the long run. amanda has looked great, and I think this will go to three sets. I do think aryna will probably win, but this match is gonna frustrate her which will, in the end, benefit her if she ends up playing someone like coco or even krejcikova who has a real chance to beat her
#also the way I was so ready (excited even) to write about a swiatek/svitolina matchup… alas#tennis#atp#wta#australian open#pre-match writeups
