₊˚ෆ stella’s relationship with daisy !
━━━ ❛ if you go I’m goin’ too, cause it was always you
Tumblr media
ᡣ𐭩 BASICS !
when did they meet Stella(7) and Daisy(8) met at a figure skating competition in Toronto, Canada , they didn't talk to each other , both of them being too shy. They first talked when they ran into each other at Luke's hockey game that was held at the same rink on the same day. Additionally, David – Daisy’s twin brother – played against Luke’s team often, which often led to the Ahns and the Hughes’ often running into one another.
their first impressions of each other:
to say daisy was impressed (and a little intimidated) by stella’s skills was an understatement. though daisy was never a shy child, watching stella perform before definitely made her a little nervous to perform. but by the time they went to dinner with the hughes, daisy made it a note to speak to her – complimenting stella on her amazing performance.
Stella was in awe as she watched daisy skate, it was obvious that she was very talented and loved the sport. Stella really wanted to become friends with her since she struggled making friends with the other girls. They finally got the chance to speak to each other when their families went out to dinner – and the girls immediately clicked!
favorite memory they have of each other
Stella’s favorite memory of her and daisy, is when the young girls had to go out of state for a figure skating competition with their moms and they decided to let the two girls share their own hotel room (they were next door and there was a connecting door to the rooms – but still the idea of them having their own room was exciting to them) they stayed up way to late eating sweets, listening to music that turned into a playful dance battle, and doing the silly quizzes in the magazines. They ended up falling asleep in the same bed as they watched mamma mia.
Daisy’s favourite memory between her and Stella has got to be the first time Daisy stayed with Stella and her family in Michigan for the summer. The pair of them naturally had to share a room — being the only two girls — spending the entire summer together. Though Daisy was incredibly homesick — due to it being her first time away from her entire family for a long period of time — being around Stella made it easier, as the pair of them did activities like swimming together and curling up on the sofa watching their favourite movies. Daisy had brought her little spa/makeup kit, and the duo spent an entire afternoon giving each other (and Stella’s brothers) makeovers.
ᡣ𐭩 DETAILS !

They have been to many kpop concerts; ateez, txt, enhypen, twice and aespa
They went to coachella 2023 and 2024
stella was one of the first people to help daisy with her english; daisy teaching her korean in return
whenever their families go on trips together, stella and daisy always insist on sitting/rooming together.
once on a plane ride, they were seated in front of each other instead of beside, so they passed notes between the cracks of the seats.
daisy often features stella on her videos on youtube and vice versa, the pair of them often vlogging their little dates together
on stella’s 18th birthday, daisy gifted stella an expensive bracelet with a heartfelt card – getting herself one of her own so they’d match. it’s one of the only pieces of jewelry daisy wears every day.
fights between the pair are few and far between, though if they end up having a more serious argument, it doesn’t take long for them to make amends.
given how long they’ve known each other, daisy and stella know each other like the backs of their hands. they often tell each other things they don’t even tell their siblings – who of which they’re both close to.
daisy was one of the first people to know about stella and rutger’s relationship, and in turn, daisy told stella about luke and ethan as soon as it happened.
with this, daisy was also one of the first to know about her impromptu departure to seoul, following stella and luke’s argument.
stella is the one who got daisy to be a little more extroverted in university.
daisy used to have a crush on stella’s brother jack, while stella still has a crush on daisies older brother jihoon
they often tease each other about this

(1/2 sorry abt the essay jumpscare) i've used it to describe just his room before, but Tsukasa as a whole is surprisingly pragmatic? We see it off the top of my head in how he handled happiend, in that though he was sad he knew if emu didn't join them they would have to move forward without her. (you can kind of argue also in NY3, how despite wanting to go beyond wonder stage to get more experience he knew wxs still needed him). Not to say he has no idealism, his goal is pretty much entirely idealist, but he balances out the two pretty well overall by striving to become the best while knowing realistically he needs to work hard to achieve it. (He also accepts that sometimes things can't go the way he wishes it to, smth he learned way too early...) It is kind of a double edged sword, bc despite the abstractness of his dream he treats it more like a logical goal he will achieve in a certain amount of time (aka: "as soon as possible") and as we see in sky's edge the idea of not knowing how long it will take until finally becomes a star really digs into him. But what does it mean to finally become a star for tsukasa? Also let's be real his expectations for himself are fucking insane, he clearly using his idol as a model but he is so hard on himself for not being closer to his level despite not even being an actor on a more professional level for a year yet, while only being self taught. Like, that's really impressive???? Sakurako and Asahi can recognize the talent and hard work it takes for that kind of progress but Tsukasa can only see it as a failure for not immediately being the best. we see in pimh how the riley stage performance affects him too, he can only tunnel vision on being able to match their level bc they're further along than he is until it really rears its head in sky's edge, being so terrified of failing both his and his friend's expectations of him that he's willing to go to extreme measures both physically and emotionally to be able to push himself higher up. and during all this he takes his feelings about everything and views them in a strangely utilitarian way, as a way to help the show go smoothly, to help him get into a role, even in happiend he only willingly opens up bc he wants emu to open up and god knows if that wasn't the case he'd never admit how he felt to wxs! Idk. I think, just with the inherently vagueness of his goal and how he goes about it, as is, Tsukasa will never really be satisfied with himself. In the industry there will always be someone better than you and the way Tsukasa handles this is just not healthy, especially with how Sky's Edge worked out for him by a miracle I'm worried he's gonna see that extreme measures he took and lean more and more into it when he struggles with roles to make up for how he struggles to acknowledge the emotions he wants to just...ignore and bury to be forgotten. He's not equipped properly to deal with that reality bc he sees becoming the best as an objective goal he can achieve. The way he treats his emotions like a utility aka "i'm glad that my loneliness and sadness as a child could help me play torpe *packs that shit right back up and puts it away*" is a whole other can of worms to unpack but i'm gonna wait till his next event i think? idk this detoured as this always does sorry i HATE tsukasa tenma /j

Exploring the Dominance of India in T20 Cricket: A Team to Watch
India has emerged as a strong contender in T20 cricket, winning hearts with their exciting onfield displays and young prospects. The game of cricket continues to evolve and T20 is rapidly becoming the format of choice for players across all continents. India has long been a leading nation when it comes to playing field rockstars that can turn their hand into something magical in this shortest form of the game so keep an eye on changing records - because they are being chopped down with alarming regularity both domestically at global level! This article explores the reasons why India is so good at T20 cricket and how they will remain a force to be reckoned with in future tournaments.
Tumblr media
A Rich Legacy in Cricket
Cricket in India has a history that dates back to centuries as the sport is almost like culture - integral and natural. T20 cricket has been a new leaf in the book of cricketers, as it is played at an above par pace which means excitement for fans and great quality flash cricket. It has led to Indian cricket exacting huge success from this version which saw the national team changing its approach and style of play coinciding with massive successes in T20-based leagues.
Star-Studded Lineup
Star Players- The star-studded lineup of India is one of the main reasons behind their success in T20 cricket. A blend of experienced players as well young talents who have made a name for themselves in the game. The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah has continued to excel while the new finds Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw is adding fresh energy in the squad.
The many strings to their bow of the Indian team makes them incredibly hard for opponent teams. The victory in high-pressure situations have only added to the reputation of India as a T20 powerhouse and this kind of adaptability is why.
Strong Domestic Structure
The domestic cricket structure in India is extremely important as it serves to provide the team with new talent and players. The Indian Premier League (IPL) has established itself as a prime platform to sprout cricketers of the future, across different nations. IPL does not just provide the players with a stage to perform in front of international standards, it also helps them get an exposure but also learn from seasoned inputs and perfect their skills by playing under pressure situations.
The advent of the IPL has increased the level of T20 cricket in India and more young talent started picking this format over other formats, all with a dream to play for their country one day. The talent pouring through the ranks and into the national team on a conveyor belt in India means that at home they will always be competitive - T20 cricket is supposed to be about here; it was built specifically with this aim.
Strategic Anticipation, Adaptation
The T20 success has another simple route apart from the launchpads and that is on field tactical brilliance which India executes chiefly well. We try to focus on what the other team is showing and play accordingly) as opposed to forcing something down a teams throat," said Hogenkamp when speaking about how they prodigy their players. The characteristic of being able to adjust as per the match's requirements and conditions, has been an impressive element India have showed in their T20 strategy.
Additionally, the mental strength of the team plays a crucial part in its performance. Indian players have shown the composure in pressure situations, taking important decisions that sees them through. This resilience, coupled with a spectrum of options available at the disposal has seasoned Team India as one of the powerhouses in T20 action.
Conclusion
In short India is on top because of a rich cricketing legacy, full-strength T20 reaction and good domestic structure. Even as the side transforms and adapts to the demands of this high-octane game, they will be a team that all other sides respect on global stage. India, I am sure is going to perform well and in future tournaments which are n high octane cricket matches so one should never miss these types of match as you can see history being written by them. Finally, it is set to be a thrilling spectacle regardless of whether you are in the trenches betting or simply someone who likes their cricket best served under fluorescent skies.

Chelsea hold “contacts” with Crystal Palace regarding a deal to sign Marc Guehi
Tumblr media
Chelsea hold “contacts” with Crystal Palace regarding a deal to sign Marc Guehi According to credible journalist Fabrizio Romano, there have been communications between Chelsea and Crystal Palace regarding the potential signing of Marc Guehi during the ongoing summer transfer window. After joining Selhurst Park in 2021, the center-back signed a five-year contract that runs until 2026.  Despite having a long-term deal, his performances were remarkable, featuring in 37 out of 38 Premier League matches last season, which has led to significant interest in him from other clubs. Up until now, four clubs - Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Manchester United - have been prominently linked with making a move for the 23-year-old center-back.  Football Insider reports that his club has set a price tag of £60 million on him, and they are determined to hold firm on this valuation for their prized asset. Interestingly, the player is not unfamiliar with Stamford Bridge, as he initially came through Chelsea's academy during the early stages of his career.  According to the latest update, Todd Boehly and Mauricio Pochettino have made inquiries to understand the requirements and possibilities of bringing him back to SW6 in the upcoming weeks. Romano, in his special column for CaughtOffside, disclosed that Chelsea did make an inquiry for Guehi a little over two weeks ago. However, it seems that, as of now, the chances of a deal being finalized are not very high. “Marc Guehi – There’s a lot of interest in the Crystal Palace defender, but it’s still too early to say where he will go. Palace players are always linked with moves away but it’s important to underline that Palace have to be respected and they want important money or they keep their stars. Chelsea had some contacts on the player side 15 days ago, but again, no concrete negotiations or anything advanced.” Chelsea have already approved the sales of Kalidou Koulibaly and Ethan Ampadu this summer, indicating their active search for a young center-back. Marc Guehi, who has been praised as a "beast" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, could be an ideal candidate for this role. Guehi, hailing from Abidjan, showcased impressive statistics last season, averaging 3.6 clearances, 1.5 aerial wins, and 1.4 tackles per game in the top-flight, highlighting his defensive prowess both on the ground and in the air.  However, his impact is not limited to defense; the 5-foot-11 star has demonstrated his offensive abilities as well. During his time at Crystal Palace, he scored five goals and provided one assist in 82 appearances, proving to be a threat during set pieces and open play. Furthermore, Guehi shares the same agent, Unique Sports Group, with Reece James and Ian Maatsen, establishing an existing connection with Chelsea.  This connection could potentially give the Blues a slight advantage in their pursuit of the former defender as they aim to secure a deal before the transfer window closes. gladiator jk?? 🤭🗡
I’ve written quite a few historicals, but never in the Rome era or quite as far back. So please excuse the historical inaccuracies and all that. I did my best to do a half hour crash course on it.

↳ Spare and Surrender
2.5k || 50% Fluff, 50% Angst || Jeon Jungkook || Gladiator!AU
Jungkook is a star.
He’s won eight games — five against wild beasts and three against other gladiators where he killed two and maimed the other. The entire Colosseum always cheers when he enters. He knows he’s become a favourite, that there are those who bet their life savings on him, and most importantly, he always wins.
The fact that he’s alive is enough proof.
But in spite of the horrors he’s had to face, of the lives he’s had to take, Jungkook still likes it. They give him a place to sleep, three delicious meals a day, and baths and massages whenever he wants. Jungkook is good at what he does too. He isn’t like those elite men from the senate who rigged the fights in their favour and perform simply for their own amusement. The scars on his body are the evidence of his strength and true victories. Jungkook is talented. He was one of the best during training, heard endless praise and even now the roars of the people make him feel alive. Even when asked if he wanted to be free, he refused. Jungkook bleeds competitiveness and the games have become his reason to live.
Today, the crowd is cheering again. But it’s not for him.
“Who’s up there?” he asks a fellow fighter, Darius.
“The new one. You haven’t heard of him?”
The two of them climb the steps, candle fire illuminating their figures and casting their shadows against the underground stone walls.
“They call him the Mouse Dragon.”
Jungkook frowns. “Why?”
“Because he’s as tiny as a mouse, but as fierce and swift as a dragon.” The clamour of the crowds become louder the closer they get to the center. There’s light from the end of the tunnel closest to Jungkook and curiosity makes him go closer. “He’s already won five games, Jeon. He might take your place soon.”
Darius nudges him with a small grin. But Jungkook doesn’t take it lightly.
He follows the light and peeks out of the barred tunnel to see you.
You’re in amber armour, silver dagger in hand as you encircle a wounded bear. It growls, leaps forward at the speed of light, but you don’t evade. You lurch forward and before the animal’s sharp teeth can rip into your skin, the dagger pierces into the side of its throat.
The bear roars in pain and you dig the blade into it before pulling out to pierce it again.
Finally, the large creature drops dead at your feet. The crowd bursts into wild howls and screams. It’s deafening.
Jungkook slinks back into the shadows.
He doesn’t know how he remained so ignorant as to not know you, to not know a fellow gladiator who won so many games. Granted, your number of victories is far from his, but it’s still notable especially when most gladiators died in their first games and few made it past ten. Jungkook plans on making it there. But at this rate, you might as well. And there was no room for two stars. Not when fame was fickle and he planned to become the most famous.
He allowed his arrogance to blind him for long enough. It’s time to make himself known to you, to show you what a real gladiator is and let you know your place.
Jungkook returns underground, darting past the many fighters preparing for their own matches. He brushes past the guards and trainers, ignoring the cry of the animals kept in their cages.
Down here, there was its own chaos. Chaos that is kept from the eyes of the public.
But when he gets to the place where survivors usually recover and collect themselves, the hall is empty and much quieter. The noise of the Colosseum is merely muffled faintly above him.
Jungkook whips back the curtain of the first room, but it’s empty. He turns on his heel, calms down his temper and glances through the gaps of the curtains, searching for you. He sees no one in the second room and no one in the third.
He’s about to relent and look for you on the training grounds later on. But at the fourth room, Jungkook’s vision unintentionally trails through the small space between the curtain and the wall.
His eyes grow wide as it lands on you. Unraveling your chest bindings.
You look up on instinct. Your pupils connect with his doe, brown eyes. A gasp rips from your throat.
But by then, he’s gone. Like a ghost or the smoke of a flame.
Jungkook strides back from where he came from, feet moving quickly. He’s in disbelief, utter confusion—
And a hand wraps around his wrist. In an instant, Jungkook’s yanked into one of the rooms.
You’re panting, chest rising and falling as you hold your bindings to your breasts.
His eyes weren’t wrong. “You’re a woman.”
“And you’re Jungkook.”
He blinks. “You know me?”
“Who doesn’t?” You slip the worn tunic on, and Jungkook realizes how small you really are. Up close, your neck is slim and your wrists small. But unlike the others, he knows it’s not because you’re a tiny, frail man. You’re a woman. “I’ve watched your games before.”
“Why are you here?”
“Why are any of us here?” You face him, gaze intense and fierce without once wavering. He can’t be threatened. Not when he’s Jungkook, someone who’s quickly becoming one of the strongest gladiators of Rome. Yet for some reason, he’s held in his spot because of you. “I was a slave and was going to be sold as a prostitute.”
“So you pretended to be a man and train as a gladiator.”
“At least I can win enough prize earnings to pay for my freedom. Or I can die. Either way, it’s better than what was in store for me.”
Jungkook’s taken aback by the determination ablaze in your eyes, by the strength and conviction in your voice. “There are female gladiators, you don’t need to hide yourself.”
“If they knew I was a woman, they’d want me to expose my breasts and fight and no one would take me seriously.” You hiss at him like he knows nothing, “What kind of prize earnings would I get then if they’re pitting me against dwarves for their own amusement.”
Jungkook looks at you — he really looks at you. Beyond a fighter in the Colosseum, beyond a fellow competitor, beyond a heroic gladiator who garners cheers.
He feels foolish.
Small-minded. Short-sighted.
His intentions of intimidation and putting you in your place has long vanished. You and him are so different. He can’t compare to you.
You don’t fight for sport. You fight to escape.
“Don’t tell anyone.” You soften. “I hate owing others, but please. I beg of you. Let me be.”
“I was a slave too.” In the farthest confines of his mind, Jungkook still hears the screaming, the burning city, Romans taking him in the midst of their conquests. And the others. The difference between him and them was that he was stronger. He survived. But he almost let himself forget. “If you made it this far, it means you’re strong as well. I have no business in revealing your secret.”
Jungkook had almost forgotten what life outside the Colosseum meant. He almost forgot the thirst to survive. To live on without needing to fight another day.
But as he looks at you, the memories return. It makes him feel sickly. He pushes them away.
“But for a price.”
The relief on your expression washes away just as quickly as it came. “What price?”
“Tell me your name. Your real name.”
You hesitate before the secret tumbles from your lips. “It’s Y/N.”
...
Jungkook sees you again in the training barracks. Now that your face isn’t simply one amongst the crowd, blurring together with the men, now that he can pick you out by just the back of your head, he often joins you. Whether it be pity or curiosity, he isn’t quite sure yet. But he speaks to you when he has the chance, invites you to sit and eat at the table with him much to the confusion of fellow gladiators, and he trains with you during the day.
He can tell you’re not fond of his attention as it garners the attention of the other men. After all, Jungkook doesn’t often associate himself with fellow fighters and certainly not those that are supposedly lower than he is. But he can also tell that you like his training help.
“Stab, don’t slash.”
“I know that.”
“But you’re still doing it.”
“I survived this far without your help, Jungkook.”
“And you’re going to need my help if you want to keep surviving and earn your way to freedom.”
The corner of his mouth tugs when you’re rendered to silence.
But you’re not the only one to gain from the relationship. Jungkook enjoys sparring with you. He likes it when your sword clashes against his, when your shields are struck. You’re a formidable competitor. While he is sturdy, swift and strong, you are agile and dexterous. He is especially impressed when you tumble away from him like your bones have turned to air.
Jungkook has always liked his women elegant with intelligent eyes, dressed in beautiful clothes that drift through the breeze. You, on the other hand, are rough when you wield weapons. Your words can be crude and he’s never once seen you in finery. Yet, he is absolutely stricken with you.
And maybe that’s why he feels a need to protect you through the fight—
“The Mouse Dragon! The Unstoppable Beast!”
The crowd goes wild as you both enter the Colosseum together. The nicknames given to the two of you are absurd, but Jungkook still feels pride that he’s famed enough to be named.
It was posted earlier today that you’d be fighting together against an exotic animal from the west. A creature with a large trunk, two tusks and whose height towers him twice over.
Perhaps the trainers saw how close he was becoming with you. Maybe the rumours began to take that he was your mentor and you were going to become the next bold gladiator. Either way, you were put together.
Jungkook looks to you and the both of you nod, preparing your stances as the animal is released from its confines. It cries out and decides to trample towards you.
The game lasts ten minutes. It always does and it’s the longest ten minutes he knows.
Jungkook is reckless this time. More than what he is used to.
“You don’t need to protect me—” you spit at him, standing shoulder to shoulder, catching your breaths.
He knows, but he can’t help it. “Who says I am?”
Jungkook strikes when he should be holding up his shield. He surges forward before you can. And he’s clearly more worn than you are. But it’s not for the cheers, not for the crowd to chant his name, and he isn’t trying to steal the spotlight from you.
You narrow your eyes in on him. “I can handle it on my own.”
You do.
The creature becomes wounded from your stabs and blood splatters across your face. But in the moment of the animal’s death, it wails out and leans on its hind legs with its last effort. From the force, you’re thrown to the ground. About to be trampled. About to be crushed.
Yet before it can come down, before you can brace yourself — Jungkook digs his entire sword through its side.
The animal falls over. The dust is awakened into a cloud.
The crowd screams all around you and your gaze meets Jungkook’s, knowing he saved your life.
The game is something to remember. So much so that a close trainer, Marcus Namjoon, whispers that the next time the two of you will have to fight a more ferocious beast. The lion.
“How will you manage?” he asks you that same night as you’re seated on the wooden steps.
“I’ll just have to or I’ll die.” The corner of your mouth curls as the light of the stars glow against your face and makes you look like a goddess. Jungkook is sure you must be the child of Ares and Aphrodite. “May the best warrior survive.”
His hand crumples into a fist. He tears his eyes away from your magnificence.
Sooner or later, you will win your freedom or sooner or later, you will die. Or worse. Jungkook knows how the games go. He’s been here for years and he knows why these matches exist. It’s all to distract the public of more important matters and if something happens, if a big enough distraction is needed, sooner or later, Jungkook will be pitted against you.
Then, he will have to kill you or at least maim you. Or he will have to be your sacrifice.
“Take this.”
He drops a leather pouch into your lap and looks away.
It’s heavy and you tug the strings. A gasp pulls on your lips. Gold and silver gleams back at you.
“Jungkook…”
“It’s all of my earnings I’ve saved so far. With what you have, together it should be enough to buy your freedom.” It becomes silent and he lets the peace of the night settle into him.
“Why?”
“Because you desire freedom more than I have ever desired anything.” That might be a lie. There is one thing Jungkook desires most that could possibly contend — and he’s looking at it. Looking at you. “If there’s anyone who deserves this, it’s you. I would not regret it if this is where my earnings went.”
“W-What about the fight?”
“I’ll have a better chance than you do.”
“Jungkook.”
You take his face within your hands to kiss him. He feels your soft lips and in spite of being a warrior, your body is even softer. You feel feminine under his touch and as he years for more, he grabs a hold of your waist and pulls you flush against him. Jungkook inhales your yelp, your tongues sloppy against one another.
A hunger from inside him awakens. Jungkook wants to have you right here, right now. But you part from him, catching your breath.
Under the stars, Jungkook has become entirely enraptured by you.
“I’ll work.” You make an oath to him. “I’ll save enough to free you.”
Jungkook’s never thought of leaving before. Even as a distinguished warrior, when he had been asked if he wanted to be granted freedom, he refused. He likes it here. There’s a roof over his head, he gets three meals and gains attention and fame that he could never get on his own.
Yet, you are a bigger reason than all other reasons.
He has never desired anything more than being with you.
A smile tugs on his lips. “It’s a promise I’ll hold you to then.”

Waxing poetic idea: virtuosity
First of all, what a concept for a waxing poetic, we love the pun, we love it all. Second of all, I have no idea just how long this has been sitting in my inbox, but better late than never, I suppose!
When I think virtuosity I generally think about music, so for the purposes of this post, I am going to focus on how Virtue and Moir are masters of musicality, as I can make a separate post about their general talent and skating skills.
I truly believe that Tessa and Scott were (and continue to be) the most musically inclined ice dance team ever. It’s nothing new, but Paul MacIntosh their old coach has spoken before saying there as just something natural about them and their ear for music, Tracy Wilson commented on them  as juniors and early in senior as a team that really listened to their music and that they used their edges and knee bend to match the rhythm of the dance, etc. It was obvious that this team just had a certain ability and flow that went above and beyond what had been previously seen in the sport.
They were ice dancing to music, not figure skating to background noise.
There was always an impression that music meant a lot to them, and the emotional connection they felt to music was very important, the program they hated the most (Malaguena) was because they didn’t chose it themselves, and the program they had the most trouble with emotionally (The Seasons) was because they also couldn’t form a connection and tried to force something. The stunning thing about Tessa and Scott’s skating is that nothing ever looks forced, it all seems to be placed and done to maximize their ability, the music, and the art of figure skating. So, cmplpete with hyperlinks as well as gif credit, lets get into it.
I say that Valse Triste is one of my favourite free dance of theirs, but I don’t think people get just how much. In terms of how much a song can be elevated by movement, VM did everything correct with Vale Triste.
Tumblr media
This perfect moment in the beginning where the music is drawn out and sweeping and so their movements match perfectly, I just love the ina bauer moment right on that first long violin sound, followed by Tessa’s nice deep long edge and then another sweeping movement. Also, the last lift directly on the crescendo of the music, when Tessa raises her hands into the air when the silence holds, and then again, that lovely piece of silence  while Tessa is balancing on Scott and his squat. Then the last moment with Scott’s arms and the violin again... All of this matches the music so well, it very much feels like they had this choreographed already, and then Jean Sibelius wrote Valse Triste for them. So stunning.
Tumblr media
Umbrellas of Cherbourg was just a piece of mastery in terms of hitting musical highlights. The first lift was so effective, all the of the step sequences were musical and lilting and joyous. I also love the moment in this gif, the abandon in their movements echoes the abandon in the song as Catherine Deneuve sings “je ne peux pas, je ne peux pas” and it really does feel like they can’t help but move this way. I don’t need to understand French to feel it, they made the movement match the music so well that it becomes universal. Special shout out to the fucking stunning backwards inside edge they both hit as they go around the corner. *chefs kiss*
Tumblr media
What I also love about their virtuosity and their musicality is that they never really settled. They picked a very difficult piece of music for the Olympic year because it was the only music they felt any connection with. It was a hard program because they really took time to highlight the music, and the accents are quick and staccato. What’s stunning, is that I think anyone who watches/knows vm can perfectly hear the music that should be playing over the gif, and nothing else COULD be playing. So often, especially recently, I watch  ice dance programs if feels like any generic music could be on and it wouldn’t change much. Tessa and Scott could never. Every movement and every moment is deliberate and on theme.
Tumblr media
Tessa and Scott’s dance holds are a literal thing of beauty and should be studied. That doesn’t have much to do with what I am writing about currently, but I thought it needed to be said. Nights and Days is an all time favourite programs. We love a wango. I love the opening especially and how they go from a nice easy arm movement to two quick poses, then Tessa’s moment with that leg and giving that face, that hit the opening notes so well, only to have the music really begin with their leg kicks.
Let’s talk about how a waltz goes counterclock wise on a dance floor and is quick-quick-slow and Tessa and Scott started their program going counter clock wise around the rink, and having their movement begin slow-quick quick, slow-quick quick...because I’m never not thinking about it
There are so many moments in their free dance to Hip Hip Chin Chin that I desperately love and that I have yet to see gifs of it. Besides the stellar and iconic opening footwork, the coolest twizzles (accenting the drums with their transition into each twizzle), and some very cool lifts (I mean, hello temptation lift), I love the step sequences and the transitions in this program so much. Some favs include:
Tessa’s booty pop to the drums and her arm on “rhythm”
Tossing Scott and a literal hip hip chin chin
Hitting twizzles and free legs on beat
Tessa just in this moment and her arms
The “I can’t resist” moment and the silence as they just pull in on beat, throw their hand up on beat, and hug on the ice sensually
That little kick they do in the step sequence right on the double beat
Anyway, that program is a fucking wonder and the fact they only did it once fully in competition is a small tragedy.
Tumblr media
Tessa’s twizzle from the Waltz goes on right on that stunning lick of effervescent music lives rent free in my head and will until I die.
Tumblr media
As does the extension and flair Tessa gets in this one small hand and arm movement. More character in this tiny little one second gif of carmen than in the entirety of Davis and White’s Notre-Damn that year, quote me.
Carmen, in and of itself, is so fascinating and intricate from a music standpoint, they hit all the moments so well. Tessa’s second leap into the air on the curve lift, the ending pose for the  twizzles, that rad as hell and incredibly difficult transition where Scott all but throws Tessa face first into the ice and she lands in a sort of lunge that took all season to perfect. I could go on.
Tumblr media
I truly am, one day, going to make a post about Dream a Little Dream and how it is the best short dance program ever performed. In terms of virtuosity it is unmatched. Again, it is that type of program where you can so easily hear the music playing the background because everything just...fits. I can hear Ella crooning “stars shining bright aboooove you” as Tessa rounds around Scott and his arms flow along with the melody. I also love the moment with “sycamore tree” and the transition there. Shout out also having the solo lady twizzle in the finnstep right on the boom of the music. There are too many moments to count. The whole program is magic.
Another special shout out to the latch step sequences and especially how they changed the diagonal step so that Tessa’s double twizzle hit right on the music and created such a moment. I also love the straight line lift and how with the changes made so it was timed perfectly to be in a moment of silence between lyrics. Tessa and Scott know how to use the moments of silence and stillness just as much as they know how to use the moments of intensity and attack.
Tumblr media
Moment of appreciation for the guitar lick during the rumba where they kick in as they get that chocktaw key point before the inside 3-turns. Iconic behavior.
What I love is that they dig deep into their music, really listen, and really try and make their movements and their program not only match the music, but elevate the music to the point where you hear things you maybe didn’t before because it never got highlight in that way before.
Tumblr media
I love that they aren’t afraid to not only hit the big, in your face “rooooxaNNE” moment, but it’s that they chose to put it at the end of their twizzle sequence which needs perfect timing, perfect synchronicity, and perfect attack. Not to mention, the amazing head-head moment with the violin right after. But then! It’s not just the end of the twizzle sequence, because they also accent the music every where in between because the first set is on beat to the music as is the second set which leads into their arm transition in character and then we get the big moment. With Tessa and Scott, their musicality is such that they create these little micro pockets of moments amidst one giant moment that is their full program; because the twizzles fit perfectly in the program, but the twizzles also stand alone as their own moment of tension and release -- just magnificent.
Tumblr media
Off topic, but gosh it always amazes me just how fast they are going into and through this lift. As I’ve mentioned previously, it’s not just the big accents they are hitting, but the small ones as well. It took me half the season to realize there is a lovely little piano lick right as Tessa backflips and rises up into position, just as the music is rising along with her and once again, it just feels right.  No other teams owns the ice and owns their music quite like them. Because it’s not just that they are so musical, its that they have the ability to skate to all of these different types of music, and look at home in every single one. In that, they are objectively unparalleled.
When Tessa and Scott skate, it almost feels like the music is asking them to create something, and is ultimately grateful for them doing so.

BTS' Jung Kook on 'Dynamite,' Loving ARMY, and Learning From Ariana Grande
"During the training years, I'd wait until the other guys had fallen asleep so I could wash up by myself in the middle of the night," says the singer
We’ve known each other for so long,” J-Hope recently told BTS’ youngest member, Jung Kook, 23. “And I love how you haven’t changed at all.” More than any other member, Jung Kook grew up in BTS; he was only 15 when the group debuted in 2013, and he’d been famous for years by the time he graduated high school, with the other members attending the ceremony. With formidable singing and dancing skills, he’s always been a born pop star, with multiple agencies trying to recruit him as early as 2011. Since then, he’s more than fulfilled his promise, playing a key role on BTS’ biggest songs, including “Dynamite.” In a conversation from his label’s Seoul headquarters, where he wore a plain white sweatshirt with a matching white mask and a black bucket hat, he discussed making “Dynamite,” his vocal evolution, his Ariana Grande fandom, and more.
On the recent Let’s BTS TV special, I thought it was really beautiful when you were surprised with the videos of ARMY singing along to “Life Goes On,” and it looked like you were moved as well. Did it remind you of how much you missed seeing fans in person? I’m a person that really loves to be onstage and really loved hearing from our fans, so when our tour got canceled in March last year, it was a bit of a shock and it was kind of hard to take in. The roar of crowds and of ARMY is something we loved. And when we do TV programs or promotions, it gets our heart racing and makes us long for it more and more. And as you said, on Let’s BTS with the “Life Goes On” performance, when we heard ARMY taking part through the internet, that reminded us of the actual roar of the crowd. It made me miss it even more.
How has it affected you to essentially grow up within BTS? I started my trainee years when I was growing up, and one thing I think is a real blessing for me is I got to meet these wonderful, nice, good six members. I think I matured into a really good person that can be loved by a lot of people. I’m really grateful for the fact that other members, the older members, have given me a lot of feedback, positive or negative. I’m really grateful to have met them.
Do you ever wonder about what you may have missed from ordinary life? It’s true I couldn’t spend a lot of days at school, but I think I gained more than I lost. I sometimes felt envious of all my friends hanging out or going on a trip. Maybe those are the things that I missed. But again, I think I gained more than I’ve lost.
Was this past year maybe a chance to live more normally for you? Just because we didn’t have a lot of work compared to before, or just because we couldn’t go outside, it really didn’t mean we had ordinary life. We still had to be cautious of our behavior. And just because we couldn’t go on tours, it didn’t mean we could stop improving. So I tried to discover new things and I think I spent a relatively busy time inside. But I did have some time to really rearrange my emotions, and I think I grew up as a person as well.
People call you “golden” because you’re good at so many things. But as you’ve said before, that comes with a lot of pressure, doesn’t it? People say that I excel, that I’m an all-rounder. Of course I excel in some areas, but I don’t think it necessarily helps to bask in those talents and gifts. You can only improve in a certain area when you really practice, when you really try, when you deep-dive into it. So I really don’t want to think myself as an all-rounder. I just want to keep trying and working hard. And of course I do feel pressure, but those pressures can also drag me to work hard and do best at what I do.
You had offers from multiple agencies, but you chose Big Hit because of RM. What did you see in him? I can’t clearly remember what happened at the time, but I just simply thought that RM was really cool. At that time, I really didn’t know a lot about being a singer. But when I saw him rap, I just thought he was really, really cool and awesome. And I believe maybe it was fate that drew me to him.
I talked about this with J-Hope as well, but it’s very interesting to look at the early style of BTS, both the clothing and the music, and see how it evolved. What do you think when you look back at those early songs and videos? When we first debuted, we had kind of fierce makeup, with our eyeliner and stuff, and dark outfits, fierce-looking outfits. At that time, our company was relatively small and we couldn’t put a lot of budget into the outfits. But now we devote a lot of time and we hold a lot of meetings to choose the outfits and the style that would go well with the songs and the album. So I think the visual aspect is really important. The song, the dance — every individual aspect is really important.
Can you share some memories of recording “Dynamite”? I thought I was getting these lines out correctly and pronouncing them well, but as we were recording and practicing, I realized there were still things I needed to work on. My pronunciation was not that good. My tongue just wasn’t loose enough to really get these English words out! But the more we practiced, the more we sang, the song became more familiar, and became more natural. So it was a good learning experience for me.
The song “Euphoria” is one of your best moments. I know it’s already a few years ago, but what do you remember about putting that one together? I specifically like “Euphoria” among many BTS songs because it has a voice that’s between a very young boy and a very mature man. And that’s why I had a tough time recording it. I had to translate those emotions into the recording, and I went into it thinking that I have lost my original voice and I really didn’t know how to sing. And I think those emotions I felt translated well into the recording. After listening to the whole thing, I was like, “Wow, I really did a good job.”
What other artists have given you something to aspire to? If there is one moment that really stayed with me, it was when we went on one of our overseas tours, and I had a chance to go to an Ariana Grande concert. I was really impressed by her stage presence. She’s a very small person, and the volume of her singing and what she was able to do was really moving, really impressive. And it just seemed like something I wanted to emulate and learn from. It made me want to develop and continue to grow.In general, I’ve tried to listen to a lot of different music. To really find the voice that I have right now, I listened to random music and just tried to sing along and learn how other artists sing.
The other guys have said that when you were young, when you first started, you were a little bit shy and introverted. What do you remember about that? [Laughs] During the training years, I’d wait until the other guys had fallen asleep so I could wash up by myself in the middle of the night. But I think time really solves everything. If you spend such a long time with the same people, it really affects your personalities. The other members had a lot of influence on me, and I could just feel comfortable because they are such good people. And they encouraged me to open up to them and mature into a good person.
Out of all these years so far, what has been the most mind-blowing moment? Topping the [U.S.] charts, being nominated for the Grammys, getting all those awards, were of course great honors and great experiences. But the best moment in my life, from when I was born until I die, is seeing ARMY from the stage. And that will never change.

Heather had been friends with Alex since they were in diapers. Every memory of her childhood she had, he was there too, since the beginning. The only ones she had he wasn’t in were the ones at family meetings. He was even there when she went to the dentist! That’s how tight these two were.
So it was kind of inevitable her meeting his band. Sunset Curve had been all he and Julie —her other best friend, along with Flynn— could talk about since they had started it. They had met the other members in the music program, something Heather had never even thought about joining, regardless of how many times her mother had told her she had an incredible voice and should definitely let the world listen to it. However, the raven haired girl preferred to keep her voice to herself, like her small little secret.
Meeting Luke and Reggie —she already knew Bobby— was easily one of the best things that could’ve happened to her. She hit it off with them instantly, as she had never really had any trouble with making friends —she was the sociable one out of the Heather-Alex duo, and the mom friend out of the “Triple Trouble” trio. Her and Flynn had denominated themselves as the band’s managers and marketing team, and the others had to admit, they were doing a pretty good job.
While Flynn took the social media part, promoting the band on every platform she could think of and posting stuff like teases of new songs, short rehearsal videos and performance dates and places; Heather had taken the people approach. She had recruited her cousin, Willie —who she suspected only wanted to help her because he had a massive crush on Alex, and not because he “wanted to help his favorite cousin”—, and they had both skated the streets of LA, putting up posters and throwing them around, telling people to “tell their friends!”, a catch phrase Reggie had come up with.
 [...]
“I got us a night at The Hollywood Club!” Heather entered the Molina garage with a proud smile and arms on the air, getting immediate cheers “I know, I know, I’m awesome” she bowed.
“Hey, I was there too” Willie pushed her aside, leaving his skate on a corner and plopping on the piano seat “In fact, if it wasn’t for Caleb owing me one, you wouldn’t have gotten that gig. I’m his messenger boy”
“Okay, listen you little shit, it was me that had to offer herself to clean the place up after the show, so I don’t wanna hear any more lies coming out from you” she narrowed her eyes at her cousin, but the skater only rolled his eyes.
Luke, beaming, reached out to Heather’s arm, pulling her onto the couch with him. The two had been dating for nearly three months, and anyone that didn’t know that could’ve thought they’d been together for years, just by seeing how deeply they cared for each other. Alex had been a tad overprotective of the girl when Luke started to flirt with her, but Julie and Flynn made him realize that if anyone could match Heather’s adventurous and forward personality, it was Luke.
Heather came up with an idea, something to do, and most people —including Alex, who over the years earned experience in this kind of things— would disregard it immediately, because it sounded, and most likely was, crazy. Not Luke. Luke would just smile and do it with her. Hype her up even. They found in each other a safe to talk, the craziest ideas and dreams coming to life. Still, they knew when to draw the line, and realize that maybe cliff diving in the middle of November wasn’t the best thing to do.
Luke liked to get the things he planned, make them real, and with Heather he felt like it was possible. Sure, he had the band to make his music dreams come true, but —and this can come out as shocking— he wasn’t just music. There were so many other things he wanted, and Heather was the first person that encouraged him to let them all out, the first person that listened to all the things he wasn’t as good at but he still liked, and forced him to get out of the studio to do them.
They were basically perfect for each other.
“Besides,” Flynn had pointed out with a teasing smirk and a knowing look that was also in Julie’s eyes “you’re going to end up dating her cousin, so it’ll be fair in no time” Alex had left that conversation blushing like a fool and with his mind a little more at peace.
“You’re incredible, babe” the lead guitarist kissed her cheek “When is it?”
“This Friday night” she answered, making herself comfortable in his arms “That gives you two days to rehearse some songs, maybe even come up with a new one. How’s my musical genius doing with that, Jules?”
“We have a few lyrics left on Finally Free, but I’m sure that we can have it done and perfected by Friday” she smiled, showing her adorable tooth gap “I’m gonna need to borrow your boyfriend for that, though”
“Sure, two musical geniuses work better than one. Meanwhile, Reggie and I have a date”
“Huh?” Luke’s head turned so fast, Heather thought for a second it would snap from his neck.
“Yeah, we’re going to watch the last Star Wars movie. We told you guys to come and you didn’t wanna, so we’re going by ourselves” Reggie could barely contain his excitement, the smile on his face making it impossible for Heather not to copy him.
“Speaking of which... if we don’t leave now, we’ll be late. Let’s go!” the girl pecked her boyfriend as a goodbye, ruffling Bobby’s hair after and blew a kiss to both girls and her best friend.
“I don’t get a kiss?” Willie pouted, but Heather only kissed her middle finger and flipped him off “Love you too, cuz!” he called, but Reggie and her were already out and the only response he got was his light laugh.
  [...]
The two friends were meeting Carrie Wilson at the theatre. Nobody would’ve guessed that the lead of Dirty Candy liked Star Wars, but Heather had known her since kindergarten, and she knew the girl.
They all technically knew her, being Bobby’s fraternal twin and all, but the boys didn’t consider her an actual friend until the girls started inviting her to their hang outs, seeing as they were all friends. Luke and her often had friendly bickering of which band was better, Reggie discovered that she could be a wonderful addition to the mischievous duo Heather and him had formed, and Alex found his perfect dance partner one night playing Just Dance. It was safe to say that she had been welcomed into the group.
“You guys are playing at The Hollywood Club?!” was the first thing he strawberry blond said when they arrived.
“Tell your friends!” Reggie winked, then turned to Heather “Damn, Flynn is fast. We have good managers”
“That you do, Reg” she passed her arm over his shoulders. It was a little awkward, because she stood on her tippy toes, but they made it work.
“Can you get me a performance too?” Carrie pouted and made puppy eyes “I need a marketing team like yours”
“C’mon Care, it’s literally my cousin and I in his skate and my roller skates and Flynn with a phone and Wi-Fi. You could do that too” Heather waved it off “Plus, you can have daddy make a call and you’ll be able to play at the Madison Square Garden. Shit, we could do that too, we have Bobby. Why am I putting so much effort into this?”
“You know I’m trying to earn my own spot, Heath. Being famous because my dad isn’t as satisfying as knowing I made a place sold out because they liked me and not the daughter of Trevor Wilson”
“You’re doing great, Carrie” Reggie encouraged “Your songs are good, and your dance moves are killer. People don’t just go to your shows to see if they can meet your dad”
“Thanks Reggie, but I’m pretty sure you only go to my shows to see Kayla” she smirked, and both girls watched their friend flush red.
“T-That’s not true!”
“Really? I guess I won’t give her your number then; she’ll be real disappointed”
“She asked for my number?”
But Carrie just chuckled and walked ahead with Heather by the arm, leaving the gaping boy behind for a few seconds before he snapped back into the real world and chased after them, asking the same question again.
“I’ll see what I can do for ya” Heather smiled “But you’ll have to fight Luke by yourself when he finds out I’m helping our rivals” she finished in a dark tone, laughing along with Carrie.
“Yes! You’re the best Heath!” she squeezed her in her arms.
  [...]
Friday arrived sooner than planned, and that left Flynn and Heather to get the band’s asses to the place. Flynn was on the phone with Caleb, assuring him that they were just stuck in traffic and they’d be there soon. They were actually trying to calm Alex down.
“Hey, look at me. Bird, look at me” Heather had her hands on his shoulders, doing her best to get him to breathe with her “You’re the best drummer I know-”
“I’m the only drummer you know, Feathers!” the anxious boy stressed.
“You’re the best drummer I know!” she exclaimed over him “This isn’t any different from our other gigs. You’re gonna get up on that club’s stage, and you’re gonna kill it. I’m gonna be on the side of the stage like I always am, with Flynn. I’m there if you need anything, which you won’t because once you get into the song, you’ll be crazy amazing”
“Okay, I can do this” he nodded to himself, taking deep breaths along his best friend.
“Hell yeah you can” she laughed softly “You good?”
“Yeah, I think so”
“Great, then let’s go people! We have an audience to impress!” the others, behind them, cheered with her and started to go to Ray’s van, were the instruments were waiting.
“Hey” Alex took a hold of Heather’s wrist “Thanks, Feathers” he smiled at her, using the nickname he gave her when they were three.
“I’m always gonna be there for you, Alex. You know that. I’m the Feathers to your Bird, we’re a package deal” she smiled back, then wrapped her arms around him “I love you”
“I love you too”
  [...]
Alex did amazing. Obviously.
The whole band was incredible, and the people in the club absolutely loved them. Heather had stayed at the side of the stage like she promised, but from where she stood she could spot Flynn with Carrie, Willie, Nick and Kayla all jamming and moving their bodies along to the song in their chairs. She clapped and hollered once the show was over, a huge smile adorning her face.
“You were right” the man himself, Caleb, clapped next to her “They are really good”
“I told you, dude. Any chance we’re able to play here again?”
“I’ll call you” he offered, and Heather didn’t think it twice before shaking hands with him “I’m closing in half an hour, and I want this place spotless for tomorrow” he smirked.
“I thought you were joking! You have people for that”
“A deal is a deal” and he left. Heather groaned and threw her head back.
“Why the frown, Princess?” at the voice of her boyfriend, the smile was back on her face.
Luke was a sweaty mess, not that she cared. She took a couple of seconds to admire his “after show” glow. Because yes, he was glowing —both literally, because sweat, and figuratively. After every performance, there was a glow to all of them, pure happiness radiating from them. You could see it in their smiles and heavy breaths, but Heather liked to see how their eyes glinted with the ecstasy of doing what they loved. It appeared while they were on stage, and it stayed for some time after performing in front of an audience. When they were rehearsing or jamming in the studio it was more relaxed, content, but on a show it was almost magical.
“What are you looking at?” Luke laughed after drinking some water, with his eyes squinting as he smiled out of pure glee.
Heather too his sweaty face in her hands and planted a firm kiss on his lips. She had never cared if the boy was sweaty and therefore by hugging or kissing him she’d get all dirty and smelly. If she wanted to show him affection, then she would.
“You guys killed it up there” she told him after a moment with a proud smile “Amazing, baby”
“Thanks, Heaths. Sang that solo for you” he added with a smirk, hand slipping around her waist.
“I saw” she answered as she passed her arms over his shoulders and around his neck “You looked really good while doing it too” the smirk widened and the hold tightened, bringing her closer to him to kiss her again.
“Take your lovey dovey acts somewhere else!” Bobby booed, nearing his friends.
“Hey, just because your sorry ass is alone doesn’t mean you have to hate on us” the raven haired girl replied with a teasing smile.
The boy scrunched his face and mocked her, which went back and forth between the two until Heather’s teasing and playful smile turned to a excited one.
“Wait! Oh, she’s looking again!” confused, the rhythm guitarist went to look behind him, but Heather shot her hand to stop him “Don’t look! Not yet... Okay now. See that pretty blond? She’s been eyeing you all night, dude!”
“For real? You think I should go talk to her?”
“Are you stupid? Of course you should go talk to her, did you not hear what I just said? Wait, here, clean some of this sweat” she took a towel and dabbed it over him, then pushed him forward when he didn’t move “Move, Bobs!”
“Thanks Heaths!”
The couple watched their friend jog over to the girl and introduce himself, saying something that she found funny. “I’m an amazing wing woman”
  [...]
The club was officially closed. After a couple of Caleb’s songs, that Heather had danced to with Flynn —more like they made a fool of themselves, but at least they had fun— and then she helped them put their instruments back in the van. Now, she held a mope in her hands, swinging aimlessly from side to side, humming to the band’s songs.
“I believe, I believe that we’re just one dream...” she picked up the pace of the song, closing her eyes as she jumped on top of a chair, spinning on her spot and using the mope as a micro “And we’re standing on the edge of great!”
The girl continued to sing her heart out, unaware of the pair of eyes that followed her very movement, watching the private show she put up for herself. When she finished the song, she let out a content sigh and a small chuckle.
“Woah” the word escaped Luke’s mouth before he could stop himself, causing Heather to jump and turn around.
The boy stood just by the entrance, an awestruck expression on his face. Red flushed Heather’s face, and she opened her mouth to stutter out something, but Luke didn’t let her, taking long strides to her.
“Heather, that was incredible! Why didn’t you tell us you could sing like that?”
“I usually like to keep the singing to myself, when I jam with you guys it’s quiet”
“Babe, you could be the lead singer of Sunset Curve! I’ll retire if that means you get to show everyone your voice”
“No” she quickly dismissed “Do not give up your dreams, Luke Patterson, you’re not allowed to do that. Not for me, not for anyone”
“But, Heath, your voice!” Luke was making big gestures, trying to get his point through.
He couldn’t understand how his girlfriend didn’t let anyone know of her huge talent. When he walked inside of the club again to help her, he couldn’t have imagined the scene that was playing in front of him, how she looked so carefree. She sounded like a goddess. It was a pleasant surprise, to say the least.
“I don’t like to be in the spotlight, Luke” she explained “You guys were born to perform in front of people, but I like to keep it behind closed doors. You understand that, right?” she took his hands, looking up at him through her lashes. He sighed and nodded.
“Yeah, I get it. But I really hope it’s not the last time I hear you sing” Heather laughed and shook his head, as Luke’s face lit up with an idea “Oh! You could perform for all of us in the studio! You’re cool with that, right?”
“I’ll sing with you and perform with you at the studio” she agreed, squealing when he picked her up and twirled her around “But you have to promise that if you guys record it, it won’t end up on social media”
“Of course, anything you need” he nodded quickly, bringing her lips to his “If I get to hear that voice again, I’ll even sell my guitar”
“I told you not to joke with that!” she chastised, hitting him on the chest and getting out of his hold. She rolled her eyes at his laughter and smirked to herself, handing him a piece of cloth “Make yourself useful and clean those tables, Rockstar”
Luke frowned, but complied.
He made her sing along with him in his car all the way back to his house, and suddenly realized that he had been an idiot for a long time. Why hadn’t he made her sing with him before? It was his new favorite thing to do.

This Tuesday, we have a very special guest today! You may remember her for her many roles in as both harem leads and magical girl protagonists! Say hello to Myth Anon, the Former Ultimate Voice Actress!
——————————————————-
BACKSTORY AND TALENT
As a child, Myth didn’t really have many friends or confidence in herself, but she yearned to become an actress. Because of her lack of faith in her acting skills, she worked backstage as a stagehand and audio technician, which she proves to still be competent at, even in the present day. One day in middle school, Myth’s parents decided to sign her up for voice acting. Despite her lack of confidence, she blew people away with her performance, and managed to secure the role of the little sister of the protagonist in Branching Paths, one of the most successful harem animes of the year. It managed to do wonders to her confidence, and eventually Myth managed to audition for and secure more and more major works, eventually making a name for herself and her colleagues as the “Harem Queen”, because if the harem lead is a female, you can guarantee that Myth will voice act in it. She is also famous amongst her fanbase for her behind-the-scenes antics, with her fellow seiyuu. (Note: You’ve got to watch videos of seiyuus, for they are comic gold!)
——————————————————-
RELATIONSHIPS
Wyre Anon, Former Ultimate Surgeon
Wyre was one of Myth’s few friends from her childhood, and they always hung out together. But upon showing great prowess with her medical skills, Wyre was forced to attend medical school, and leaving poor Myth behind. Despite missing Wyre severely, Myth had to remain strong and positive, for it’s what Wyre would have wanted. Needless to say, Wyre was impressed when the two reunited in Hope’s Peak, and saw that their shy wallflower of a friend sprouted into a more confident person. Now that they’ve reunited in high school, they both try their best to catch up on old times, despite the totally different talent domains.
Outfit: Hair tied into small pigtails and a green surgery cap on top, intact glasses, green face mask, blood-covered green surgery scrubs and blue gloves and shoes.
Anon Scar, Ultimate Astronomer
When Myth first met Scar, she was amazed to find a real life chuunibyou, for she has seen many chuunibyous in the animes that she voice acts for. Claiming to have control and infinite knowledge of the cosmos as the “Cosmo Master”, Scar‘s eccentric attitude and elaborate, grandiose vocabulary belies a concerned mother figure for the group, constantly handing the younger Anons nourishment and reminding the Anons to go to bed. Because of Myth‘s childish and clumsy nature, Scar always breaks her facade when around Myth. Myth really loves to stargaze with Scar, and Scar gladly obliges in educating Myth about them.
Outfit: Hair with two pointy buns that make her hair resemble a star, a blue hoodie with yellow stripes on the sleeves and stars decorating the fluff on the hood, a dark blue scarf decorated with a star badge in the centre, a galaxy colored t-shirt underneath her hoodie, a yellow skirt with the same fluff her hoodie has, dark blue boots with yellow soles that have a star design on the bottom.
Fusion Anon, Ultimate Romantic
Despite Fusion’s odd and feminine fashion sense, Fusion’s school regards him as a fountain of romantic advice and  a sort of father figure, viewing the people who seek his advice as his children, and being very proud of them when the gain the confidence to confess to their crushes. Fusion is a fanatic for all things romance, and that extends to romantic anime. Upon finding out that the seiyuu that starred in some of his favorite anime is going to be chaperoning him on his Kibo-Con trip, Fusion was on cloud nine. Myth is amazed at just how much knowledge Fusion has about the anime she starred in, even more than her. Outfit: An ahoge shaped like a heart, a long red scarf with white hearts on it, a pink sweater with a darker pink heart on the front, darker pink mittens, glasses, pants and shoes from original design.
Fusion Anon II, Ultimate Orithinologist
Hardly seen without her pet owl, O’Rly, Fusion II is sassy, sarcastic, and regularly tries to be cool, but to no avail. Fusion II has an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of birds, has mastered the art of laying motionless in one place, from years of birdwatching, and despite claims to the contrary, is a massive nerd when it comes to nature. As it turns out, Fusion II is perfect at imitating bird calls, and regularly tries to teach Myth how to make bird calls to attract birds. Myth has eventually mastered the art, and basically became a real-life Disney princess. Fusion II is honestly really proud of her work.
Outfit: Undershirt from the original design, a grey sleeveless parka, a necklace that holds a hawk’s talon, a brown glove on her left hand that allows her to hold O’Rly, cargo pants that patch her parka, brown steel-toed boots, sunglasses from original design.
Just Anon, Ultimate Conspiracy Theorist
Janon practically lives his whole life in an iron-padded apocalypse bunker, fully stocked with food and other needs. Janon regularly uses the excuse of the inevitable end of the world to get out of doing anything, apart from prepping for the apocalypse, and managed to form other procrastinators out of his followers thanks to his surprisingly believable conspiracy theories. Because of their opposite temperaments, both of the Anons didn’t exactly get along very well. That is, until Myth found out about Janon’s secret soft spot for children, despite his vehement denial. But at least Myth managed to find a common point.
Outfit: A tinfoil hat on his head shaped into bunny ears, a camo-hoodie, formal wear and facemask from original design.
Sparkle Anon, Former Ultimate Ice Skater
Famous for her speed and grace on the ice, and her dramatic and powerful performances on the ice, Sparkle mainly specialises in musicals on ice. She is also a master at speed-skating and won a bunch of trophies for her performances. Just like Fusion, Sparkle is a massive fan of the anime that Myth voice acts in, and was ultra happy that Myth is a fellow chaperone. Myth always wanted to learn how to ice skate, and Sparkle was all to happy to teach her heroine in entertainment all about the art of ice skating. Myth isn’t the best at skating, regularly slipping and falling, but Sparkle would never dare yell at her idol, so the lessons still continue.
Outfit: A blue leotard with a sparkly transparent skirt that has snowflakes on it, white gloves, a long blue cape with silver shoulder pads and a large snowflake on the back, sparkly white boots, glasses from original design.
Egg Anon, Former Ultimate Puzzle Solver, and Wet Sock Anon, Former Ultimate Poet
Even though most people hardly read poetry these days, Wet Sock is still famous for their dark and grim poetry. On the other side, Egg is famous for solving puzzles at record speed, and won many records. Despite both of the Anons being famed for their intellect, they love to regularly creep people out with their cursed comments and chaotic behavior. Wet Sock would never admit it, (especially not to Egg) but Myth’s vocal performances just make them swoon. But if Myth ever catches them swooning, Wet Sock would threaten the security of Myth’s kneecaps, but not before threatening Myth with a ballpoint pen to the throat.  Egg’s Outfit: Same outfit from the original design, but without the earrings and a Hawaiian shirt that resembles a Rubix Cube.
Wet Sock’s Outfit: A black overcoat over a white and blue checkered shirt, a feather quill behind their right ear, black pants and shoes.
Curious Anon, Jr. Ultimate Essayist
Don’t be fooled by their age and tendency to be a total pushover for their friends (real or fake), for Curious’s essays are referenced in academic journals all over the world, thanks to how well-written they are. Because Curious is constantly busy writing their assignments, Myth hardly ever gets chances to interact with them. On the few times, Curious gets a day off, they can’t help but politely giggle at the antics of Myth, and wonders how Myth can change her voice at the drop of a hat. Myth loves Curious for their polite attitude, and being the kind of person who would be the prime person to have a cup of tea with.
Outfit: Same outfit from the original, except with a green turtleneck instead of their tie, and longer hair that goes past their shoulders.
Nerd Anon, Former Ultimate Procrastinator
If you thought Janon was lazy, Nerd is somehow makes Janon look like Dream. Needless to say, Nerd gets very grouchy if woken up from his usual 12 hours of sleep, and he especially can’t stand the more energetic Anons of the Kibo-Con roster, but especially the adorable and childish Myth. Years of starring in anime has made Myth realise that she found her male tsundere love interest, much to the anger and embarrassment of the lazy and starving college student. Myth regularly tries to use harem tropes to woo Nerd, but they just result in Nerd releasing all of his pent-up strength on the charming voice actress.
Outfit: Messier hair, a black and unbuttoned gakuran over an improperly-buttoned white dress shirt, and matching black shoes, regularly holds a brown suitcase.
Eldritch Anon, Ultimate Speedreader
Eldritch lived in an old and dilapidated library for practically all of his life, and managed to clear the entirety of the library roster three times over. But because of his isolated upbringing and his binging of horror and fantasy novels, Eldritch shows a hostile distrust of just about everybody, even the adorable-looking and sounding Myth, claiming that she is a spiritual vessel that houses thousands of tortured high school girl souls. Myth believes that that sounds like a great anime series, but she is willing to back away from the bite-sized bookworm for now, seeing as Eldritch doesn’t trust the seiyuu in the slightest.
Outfit: Longer and unkempt hair, black reading glasses, a patchy brown jacket over a green sweater vest with a brown stripe in the middle and a red bow tie with white polka dots, brown pants, and black and white shoes.
Dream Anon, Ultimate Trivia Master
With an energetic disposition and a love of learning the most random of things, Dream is the captain of her school’s quiz bowl team, and truly deserves her appearance and victories on many trivia game shows. Myth and Dream got along like water and Kool-Aid mix, thanks to their similar energetic, goofy, and childish personalities and dispositions. Myth loves to learn random trivia from Dream, and Dream loves to watch the anime that Myth stars in. In conclusion, both Myth and Dream gain something out of their friendship. In Myth’s eyes, Dream is like the little sister Myth never had, and Dream is happy to earn that position.
Outfit: Blue and red hairclips shaped like question marks, a oversized blue letterman’s jacket with a big yellow question mark on the back over a black shirt with a big yellow one on the front and back, shorts and shoes from original design.
Iris Anon, Jr. Ultimate Personal Assistant
With a constant need to help and assist others, Iris carries herself with an overly-positive and cheerful demeanour, despite her heavy workload, which makes her a massive hit with the people who hire her to carry out a variety of duties, such as cooking, cleaning, and entertaining guests at parties (the latter being a particular speciality of hers). But just because she‘s clumsy when off-duty, that doesn’t mean she‘s clumsy or careless with her duties, for any of her bosses could tell you that Iris does everything with precision and accuracy. Just like with Dream, Myth and Iris get along, thanks to their similar demeanours and dispositions.
Outfit: A blue overcoat and matching skirt over a red tie and a white dress shirt, white stockings, black Mary Janes, glasses from original design.
Purple Anon, Ultimate VS Debater
Specializing in hypothetical matchups between both famous and obscure historical figures, Purple is famous for her online videos that bring attention to underrated historical figures, and pits them against each other in hypothetical intellectual and physical battles. Because she is a historical expert, this influences Purple’s vocabulary, making her speak in an old-fashioned and archaic style, much to the confusion of the majority of the con attendants and chaperones. Because of Purple’s extreme timidity when not behind a screen, Purple and Myth don’t interact much, if at all. Myth yearns for Purple to come out of her shell, though.
Outfit: A black overcoat over a purple turtleneck, a black skirt, stockings and shoes from original design.
This series revolves around a childish and dorky voice actress (aka. The Harem Queen), making friends with both her fellow chaperones and the con’s attendees.
——————————————————-
PERSONALITY
Despite her career as a seiyuu making her even more outgoing and energetic, deep down she’s still a massive goofy dork, which you can see very clearly in her interactions with the other seiyuus. Because she’s younger than her colleagues, she has a tendency to be babied by them, and unlike Janon, she doesn’t mind. VoiceAct!Myth is also very romantically minded, much like Romantic!Myth, but she doesn’t seem to realise that harem anime isn’t exactly the best tool to get romantic advice from. People claim that Myth doesn’t have a consistent voice, for she repeatedly switches up her voice, to impersonate one of her characters.
——————————————-————
APPEARANCE
VoiceAct!Myth wears her standard glasses, and her purple hair down. She also wears a brown beret on her head, and a pair of microphone headphones over her ears. She also wears an oversized white turtleneck, a long brown shirt with a bisexual heart patch on the right side, a brown side bag, white stockings, and black Mary Janes.

I hope you like this talentswap! Let me know what you think of VoiceActress!Myth in your reblogs!

Great work @paper-glasses completing the daily calendar! It was great seeing all of the different art works you came up with!
This fic was created by @phandom-phriend for your day 29 prompt Heat
*tw mentions of death, parental fights
----
Ever since she saw those people on the TV screen with their loud instruments and voices, with their crazy hair colors and even wilder outfits, Ember knew she wanted, needed, to be part of that. Her parents were always quick to turn off the television when these bands came on, or change the radio station when something particularly loud or out of their comfort zones came on. But even at nine, that couldn’t stop Ember.
The second she had the chance, she found herself in the music room of her school. It wasn’t much, seeing as the school was for elementary students who couldn’t really grasp the idea of complexity quite yet, but she was desperate to get her small hands on something. Anything. The teacher was more than happy to help with her little hobby, taking the time to teach her things about rhythm and notes. Teaching her how each part worked to create the whole of what would later be heard on the radio by thousands.
Ember was entranced.
In middle school the very first thing she did was join the band. It wasn’t quite what she wanted, but even that tiny drum set served as the perfect outlet. Her parents had been fighting more and more lately, but because they were so absorbed in their own petty fights they didn’t even notice that she often returned home late from practice. It worked for her in that way, seeing as music still didn’t really seem to be their ‘thing’, but when she actually wanted for their eyes to look her way…
So Ember tried. She tried so hard to excel in all her classes, in her band performance, even in her chores to try and turn those angry glares into proud fondness like it used to be. Or maybe it was never like that and it was simply her child mind making the best of things. But it is a goal she strived to achieve in some sort of way from the moment she wakes up to the moment she goes to bed each night.
In the end, her grades slipped. Ember was still trying so hard, but it wasn’t enough. She couldn’t bring herself to focus on her studies the same way that she focused on music. No matter what she tried, she just couldn’t get the same joy from reading or equations that she got from beats and lyrics. Sitting in a classroom could never have the same appeal as being on a stage, but it seems that kind of logic doesn't work on teachers or state tests. Who knew?
In eighth grade, a friend of hers introduced her to the guitar. It was something her dad kept propped up in the living room corner. The previous times she had been over, Ember had thought the item was merely a decoration to ‘tie the room together’. But when he found Ember staring at it and offered to teach her, that was a moment she could never forget for the rest of her life.
Feeling those strings under her fingertips. The way her heart beat with each sound that strummed from the instrument with only a slight movement of her hand. The way it sent shivers down her spine with the absolute feeling of power and pride dancing in her veins with every new note. This was her instrument. The guitar called to her in a way that drums and flutes and clarinets never had. She knew that from that moment on, she would do everything in her grasp to keep this feeling with her.
At sixteen she is no longer in band, but instead choir. They had recruited her during freshman year and she found that she enjoyed singing just as much as she enjoyed the guitar. The freedom and range it gave her, the chances for solos and the spotlight. For all those eyes on her. Her parents never came to a show, but when the stage lights flashed in her eyes so that the crowd became nothing but shadows, it was easy to pretend they approved. To pretend things were okay and that she would see them after the show. To prove her worth was more on the stage than it could ever be on paper.
Now she is also working part time at some stupid diner. It’s totally not her scene with the overly stressed coworkers and the customers that pretend to know their jobs better than they do. The grease from the food and the same six songs playing during her long shifts aren’t quite the excitement she’s looking for. Not to mention the tacky uniform that totally clashes with her bright red curls…
So if she keeps waiting for a Help Wanted sign to appear in the window of the record shop across the street, who really needs to know?
But it pays well. Well enough that she finally, finally, gets what she’s been wanting for so long. An electric guitar of her very own, colors customized to shine perfectly in the spotlights glow. Holding that gem in her hands for the first time nearly brought her to her knees. This, this right here in her thin hands, is her legacy. This shop in this small town is going to be the start of something great, it’s just that no one else knows it yet.
At eighteen it’s her senior year and she refuses to graduate without doing something she deems herself as great. So without a second thought she signs up for some talent show with a grand prize of $5,000 and a record deal. She has to drive three states away and skip a few school days to make the auditions, but school work and attendance has never stopped her before.
A week later, she got an email congratulating her on making it into the first round.
And just like that she began to shoot up to the top like a rocket going to the depths of space. Ember won round after round after round. Sure, seeing the crying faces of her competition that got sent home wasn’t a good feeling. But the feeling of being so close to stardom, being recognized as one of the best, let those negative feelings be drowned out. They all may have had dreams, but she did too. And she wasn’t going to give hers up for anything or anyone.
And then
She
Won
She won the competition, driving all over the country to different venues to perform her way to the top all by herself. All those hours practicing, all those moments where she chose not to give in when the rest of the world told her to, lead up to this moment. This very moment where the gold and silver confetti falls from the ceiling accompanied by matching balloons. This moment where the judges she's seen face to face countless times over the course of this journey walk up to her with a golden trophy. This moment where she gets to choose which record label she wants to sign to.
This moment where she is truly free.
Then came time for her first live performance. Her hair all tied up, makeup done in a way to leave an impression. Outfit displaying all the power and ferocity within. This would be her debut song to the world. The first pillar after a long string of stepping stones leading her to the fame she has desired since she was small. Her parents still aren’t in the crowd, but that’s okay now. Now she has fans that watched her journey cheering her name. And the only way she plans to go is up.
Except that didn’t happen. Halfway through her song there was an… accident. One of the stage crew members didn’t properly put out their cigarette backstage and started a small fire. It could have been easily handled, but the assistant who found it panicked and fanned it with the papers they had been holding, unintentionally making the flames bigger.
By the time Ember realized the heat wasn’t from her workout of working her stage magic, but from the hidden flames backstage, it was already too late. The rope they had used in place of the rusted metal beam that once held one of the spotlights burned.
The rope burned and the light came tumbling down, down, down. All she could do was look up into it as the bulb flickered out. Look up and hope against all hope that this wasn’t it. That there would be more to her story.
“... But I woke up in the ghost zone instead of some hospital bed. Years had already passed by the time I manifested and everyone… everyone had already forgotten about me. Just another news story. Well, they did change the safety measures for stage performances after that. So I guess that’s a win.” Ember sighed, looking out at the stars above them. Sometimes it hurt to look at them, all twinkling and bright above her.
Sometimes she worries that one might fall.
“I’m… sorry, Ember.” Danny said sadly. He knew that all ghosts had their story, a reason they remained. But hearing them never got easier. The pain of having lost everything just to be stuck in some kind of in-between is a burden that feels like it’s too much to bear, but there is no escaping it either.
“It’s okay. Well, it’s not, but you don’t have to be sorry.”
“I wish I could help you.”
“Well, you could let me perform my hypnotizing show without issues.”
Danny laughed and shook his head. “Fat chance. Unless you can do it without the whole mind control thing, I don’t think that can work.”
“Aw, you’re no fun.” Ember laughed back before standing up “Well, maybe one tame show wouldn’t be so bad.”
The halfa stood up after her and smiled. “Then it’s a deal. The mayor owes me one, so I’m sure I can get you a great stadium attendance.”
“You know…. You’re not so bad, kid.”
“Neither are you.”
The two stayed silent for a moment, simply looking out to the stars, both of them thinking about their broken dreams caused by being a ghost. So many things were lost or taken from them. But that’s the funny thing about being broken, sometimes your edges line up with someone else's. Sometimes with someone you would never even expect.

I want to briefly talk bluegrass fashion.
I appreciate and enjoy bluegrass from its roots to its present. I think creative growth over the decades has allowed for incredible and diverse music. Whether it’s disco influenced jamming, rock-bluegrass fusions, or classical music inspiration, there’s cool stuff to be had anywhere in the timeline. That said, one thing I wish contemporary bluegrass bands did more of was take fashion tips from the first generation bands.
In the 1920s, barn dance type radio programs featuring hillbilly music and rural style entertainment became popular. Some of these radio shows like the WLS National Barn Dance and WSM Grand Ole Opry had stage shows where you could watch the program in person. Costuming and presentation of the performing cast tended to be rough rube depictions, even caricatures, of rural people. George D. Hay, who founded and hosted the Grand Ole Opry, himself named the bands things like “The Gully Jumpers” and “The Possum Hunters.”
Tumblr media
But when Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys auditioned and were made members of the Grand Ole Opry in October 1939, Monroe detested this rough presentation that could quickly engender degrading opinions of hillbilly stereotypes. He opted instead to dress in a more classy manner. His band came out in white shirts, ties, jodhpurs, and boots.
Tumblr media
This is something Bill Monroe bragged about even as the decades went on. For Monroe, it was important to dress well and in dignity when you got onstage. You respect yourself and you respect audiences when you come out in your best.
By the mid-1940s Bill Monroe’s band had accumulated a number of musical features that today our ears would recognize as bluegrass. It’s interesting to notice that bandmembers who left Monroe and went on to do their own bluegrass music often... took with them some of Bill’s ideas about stage presentation. Flatt & Scruggs, when they left Monroe and started their own band, are sometimes seen in early images wearing jodhpurs.
Early bluegrass bands on occasion might have had an “exception” to the rule. At the very least, you see this in Flatt & Scruggs in the late 1940s and first half of the 1950s. But I believe what they were doing reflected a trend that existed in the broader hillbilly music industry. I’d like investigate that more later to understand better. Unlike today’s concerts that involve music and only music, in those times, comedy was a more expected part of a show. White banjo performers, prior to bluegrass, were essentially all comedians; and in ensembles, someone (as I’ve often seen, the bass player) might take a comedy role. So you could’ve gotten a well-dressed band... and then the bassist dressed in comic rube garb.
Tumblr media
That said, each first generation bluegrass band ended up creating their own unique presentation. It’s variation around a theme: dress up nice to respect audiences and put your best foot forward. How you present yourself onstage has impact. Audiences aren’t coming out to see some tattered everyday person; they’re coming out here to listen to music stars.
And so you see bands and acts coordinating their outfits in classy ways like...
Tumblr media
(The 1958 screencap above doesn’t 100% evoke this, but I’ve noticed Flatt & Scruggs in the mid-50s through mid-60s would often do a 2-2-2 coordination. Everyone would wear hats. The band leaders would wear matching jackets and string ties. Two band members would wear the same collared shirts and the same string ties as the leaders. The last two band members, who were a duet and comedy team, would wear vests or different hats or some other distinguishing marker. Everyone’s clothes would carry the same overall color theme. Very well-thought out wardrobe presentation.)

SEE? EVERYONE IS DRESSED UP AND LOOKS GOOD.
You can tell they’re an act. You can tell they’re professional. You can tell, the second they step up to perform, they mean business. It helps elevate them into STARS.
As new generations took up bluegrass, the social context of how to dress changed. The Folk Revival of the 1960s brought many Northerners, urban people, and hippies into the bluegrass world. I haven’t read up as much on this part of bluegrass history, but I believe it was starting here that new bluegrass ensembles quit thinking about dressing up to be onstage. I’ve certainly seen photos of the early bluegrass festivals of the late 60s and 70s, and some second generation bluegrass groups would wear extremely casual things onstage. Other groups would coordinate by wearing the same collared shirt, which meant they were matching, but also (to me) making less of a “statement.”
It makes sense. First generation bluegrass performers were seeking to dress to impress and get away from crappy hillbilly stereotypes. Later generations of bluegrass performers might not have been from the South or a country lifestyle at all, and would feel more inclined to try to evoke a “working class” vibe by wearing everyday or ragged clothing. Today, I feel many bands do this to evoke their own form of an authentic stage presentation.
This means that today, many groups wear rather casual clothing. I feel I see this especially in jamgrass. And for the record, these are all VERY talented, well-known ensembles; I’m not comparing pros to locals or something.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And they’re dressed better here than what I’ve seen for bands at concerts.
I think it’s ironic that Bill Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass, sought to escape tattered clothing that actual country people wouldn’t wear on the fields, let alone onstage... only to have bluegrass musicians half a century later revert to costuming concepts Monroe had rejected. Today’s clothes of course aren’t the torn-up straw hat and single-strapped overalls of the early Opry, but it’s the same idea: dress down to look “country.” I don’t think there’s any objective disrespect to bluegrass’s history to dress like that, but I do think there’s a point that everyday clothes don’t make as much of an impression for your band.
Now of course not all groups have gone this route. In any generation of bluegrass, you still see bands that dressed more “traditionally.” But it’s certainly been a trend—since at least the 70s—to see bluegrass groups, either at the local or professional level, wearing everyday clothes. Get jeans, maybe some flannel, and you’re good to go. I see it oh-so-often now.
It doesn’t resonate as much to me. I get the point of their presentation, trying to evoke a casual non-mainstream working class image, but I feel there’s other ways you can set a vibe for your ensemble that doesn’t come off as lazy, everyday, or unnoticeable.
I’d be much more interested seeing:

YEAH!!!!! YOU GO RHONDA VINCENT AND THE RAGE!
I think it’s interesting to see this mindset about proper bluegrass performance attire recur in interviews. I’ve watched a number of 2000s and 2010s interviews for first and early second generation bluegrass performers, and one common thing the old-timers complain about is how people don’t dress up anymore. They feel it doesn’t respect the audience or make a good impression for the ensemble. How you present yourself onstage is half of the performance; it can be an effective means of enhancing a show when you do it well.
And I’ve seen it in conversations with people like Steve Martin, showing how in the 2010s, there’s still negative “hillbilly” images to butt against:
INTERVIEWER: Does it bother you that quite possibly the most famous banjo song in pop culture is "Dueling Banjos" from "Deliverance"?
MARTIN: It doesn't bother me at all. Actually I might argue with that because another most famous song would be the theme from "The Beverly Hillbillies" or "Foggy Mountain Breakdown," the song from "Bonnie and Clyde." So there are a couple of 'most famous' banjo songs.
INTERVIEWER: But still… the theme song from "The Beverly Hillbillies"?
MARTIN: It's just something we have to face. And everything changes. That's why I always wear a suit and tie when I play bluegrass.
INTERVIEWER: Do you feel like you're helping changing the face of bluegrass?
MARTIN: I don't know. That's what I do when I go on stage. I don't make hillbilly jokes or things like that. I'm just playing it as the person I am, not pretending to be anything else. The band I play with, we all dress in suits and ties.
One of my favorite contemporary bands also has one of my favorite wardrobes. What they choose to wear is a huge element of their stage presentation, amplifies their show powerfully, and contributes to the entire vibe of their music product. Good costuming can be part of marketing, and they market themselves spectacularly.
The Dead South almost marries the best of both worlds between “dress up” and “dress as the everyday man.” Their clothes aren’t “formal” in the sense of suits and ties. There’s more casualness to it. At the same time, what they wear—blatantly Southern and Western gear that matches with variation across the band—isn’t something everyday Joe or Janet would put on to go to Walmart. It’s got a little more of a “period” feel to it while also being modern enough to feel authentic. Altogether, it makes them classy without being formally classy.
It’s perfect for them. This is a “controversially” bluegrass band who knows that, while they play string band music, its creative reach extends beyond what you’d expect of something labeled “bluegrass.” They have called themselves “a rock band without a drummer, a bluegrass band without a fiddler.” Elsewhere, they’ve marketed themselves as “a gold rush vibing four-piece acoustic set from Saskatchewan [that] infuse[s] the genre's traditional trappings with an air of frontier recklessness, whiskey breakfasts and grizzled tin-pan showmanship.” This is a band I’ve always said plays to a “degenerate” image, songs filled with cowboy shootouts, barfights, gun-wielding robberies, alcoholic nights, and more.
Tumblr media
And doesn’t their wardrobe evoke that spotlessly? There is CLASS and INTENTION with how they present themselves, to the point the band almost always stands in that order left-to-right, and has used their unique wardrobe choices for album covers and stage design.
Tumblr media
Check out how the stage’s stained glass window lights behind them evoke both images from their songs, and have the tie, beard, skull, string tie theme on them. Every band member stands in front of his respective window.
Tumblr media
That is *WAY* cooler, more effective, more impacting, more resonating, more memorable, more vibing, than simply tossing on my latest t-shirt.
(And yes, the last photos are from when I went to their concert last year. One of the best concerts I’ve EVER been to, and it’s because they knew how to put on a SHOW.)
Tumblr media
Performance entails everything from the sounds you make to the personality you evoke to the clothes you wear. It’s why I prefer the first generation bluegrass bands’ approach to “dress well” over some modern string band trends. And again, bands like The Dead South show alternate ways you can dress up and rock out.
