I have to be honest.

I be side eyeing people who ship Luke x Alex HARD, cause like I dont understand why you would ship them when Willex and Juke is RIGHT THERE, like ???? 

And like i just find it really suspicious because I notice alot of people (specifcally white people) do this type of thing where they ditch a love interests such as Julie and Willie in favor of a white love interest, and like idk when I see this ship I like can’t help but be cautious of its shippers because its origin usually due to racism and it’s just nasty.

This doesnt mean there is anything wrong with past Luke x Alex aka Luke and Alex being exes but there are definitely people who ship as a current romance which doesnt sit right with me. (also there are people who demonize Willie as well....) 

remember racism isn’t always a conscious decision, and you don’t have to be actively throwing slurs to be racist, and some of these works and takes that I see surrounding ships like Luke x Alex is an example of this.

jatp fanworks appreciation - day 1 (writers)

motivation - so in true me fashion and my aversion to brevity, i've made three (3) posts (see also artists, gifs/edits) to celebrate the wonderful people in this fandom who have made my jatp tumblr experience what it is; a community of people who simply shout into the void about their love of a ghost band and their fearless female leader. i've enjoyed simply being on the sidelines admiring everyone's love for the show, but i thought this would be a good time to really show my appreciation for all these wonderful people, because if i've learned anything from this pandemic, it's that there is NEVER a wrong time to tell someone that they are simply ✨the best✨.

disclaimer: i don't interact with most of these people personally and i simply absorb their content from afar and scream about how wonderful they are in the tags.

This list kind of became a fic rec, so if you're looking for some wonderful fics to read (or reread), I've also included my favs from the author here as well.

Okay this is gonna get a little long so please bear with me. But I just wanted to preamble this by saying that the fanfiction written by the jatp fandom is what resparked my love for reading fiction after about 3-4 years of not reading for leisure (be an adult they said. it'll be fun they said.). So I'm really grateful for that? I don't interact with a lot of people, just because it makes me a little anxious, but I will constantly yell about your content in the tags as if I were on a set of bleachers with a megaphone.

I also know there are so many wonderful fic writers out there (on Tumblr and not on Tumblr) that make amazing pieces of work, and this is just a tiny peek into that, and is not at all conclusive.

Without further ado here are some writers who live rent free in my head, in alphabetical order, so feel free to just skip to your name to avoid my rambling:

@bluefirewrites -> your Merry Ex-Mas fic had me on the edge of my seat every single time you updated. I am so in love with how you wrote the characters into this and at how many words you churned out for this fic. This was filled with so much adventure, and it was really welcome during a time when the world wasn't allowed to travel. And I simply love all the other drabbles and fics you write, but I especially enjoy the hilarity of Ray Molina, Crime Scene Photographer and Matchmaker.

@captainkippen -> I'm pretty sure Love Drunk was one of the first fics I ever read in this fandom. Your stories and your writing feel so goddamn real and I find myself so immersed in the worlds that you've created. I have reread most of your jatp fics and I still manage to find myself stupidly grinning at my phone each time. Your stories flow so easily and are such perfect characterizations of the characters we know from the show, but elevated to fit into your verse. I cannot say enough how wonderful your writing is and how talented you are!! (also a slight nudge that I am still very much following along with The Key and the Crown and I hope you continue it!)

@catty-words -> Your???? Exhaustive??? Music??? Lists???? The amount of work and dedication and microanalyzing that you put into pulling out every detail from each scene is so admirable. You not only manage to find the details, but you also give us EVIDENCE via your intricately selected gifs. You could've just put the video of the performance, but no, you take your time to find that specific 1 second shot to emphasize your point. And your little fics that you sometimes throw out into the world? They're so beautiful, and so fun to read and I enjoy them so much! (I am STILL screaming about this band's a snack) Thank you for validating my yelling in the tags, and for feeding my hyperfixation to this show. (I'm sad these lists are ending soon, but it's about the journey ya know?)

@lydias--stiles -> I don't even know what to say here because I've yelled so much about your fics that I feel like there's really nothing else to yell. Your Road Trip AU was also one of the first ones I read in this fandom, and really just made me go absolutely feral. Pretty sure I absorbed the rest of your fics in an ungodly amount of time and I just simply think you are incredibly skilled and talented. Every time you post a new fic I always wonder what it's like to be in your head because the ideas you come up with are so unique and so well thought out. Thank you for all the art you create for this show, I will constantly be in awe of you. (Special shoutout to the 5+1 fic that became a 31 chapter monster)

@pearlcaddy -> This list would not be complete if I didn't mention you. First of all, thank you for suggesting this wonderful week, it has been so lovely to see so much love being spread around today. Secondly, I never thought I'd find myself reading a Buffy or a Wizarding World crossover fic, considering I know nothing about those two things. And yet I found myself on various nights after work at 3 in the morning just silently screaming and/or crying into my phone. Your writing is so insane. Your world building is so insane. Your banter/dialogue is insane. The way you capture the love between Julie/Luke in different universes is so perfect. Thank you for gifting us these beautiful pieces of art, and I hope you know that you have at least made one person (me) a very happy reader. I also really admire your dedication to "this will only be a oneshot", only to write like 4 other POVs for it. (Special shoutout to 100 Bad Days)

@ruzek-halstead -> Literally every single fic you have written lives rent free in my head. The way you've managed to build this universe of different Julies and Lukes, and each one still captures the essence of them is astounding. You've extended their characters beyond what we know from the show and I am just in awe of everything you write. Please know that dead of night is both triggering to me and yet the most hilarious thing I have read. (Special shoutout to the Fake Dating Christmas AU and of course the Cinderella Story AU)

@serendipitee -> Your stories and your writing are absolutely magical. I think Write It Down was one of the first multi-chapter fics that I followed super closely and whenever you updated, I would literally drop what I was doing and read it instantly. You have such a way of building the plot and the characters for all of your fics and drabbles, and making the reader just want more. Please know that I am so obsessed with Oh, She Waltzed With the Dead and I cannot wait to see where you take the story!

@sunsetcurbed -> I have no words for your writing. I am simply in awe every time I read something from you. The way you've got down Alex and Willie's voice to a tee is so crazy good. You write their characters and their stories with such grace and care, especially with how you approach the topic of mental health. Thank you for all the research you do and for also writing in your own experiences. I literally binged the Princes Diaries AU during work and lost a good half day to it, and I regret nothing because that fic left me in SHAMBLES. I secretly adore the way you say you're going to keep a fic short, and end up writing an insane amount of words for it. (I have not yet left my obligated long-ass comment on Chapter 4 of the College AU yet because I am still processing the fate/destiny concept.)

@tangledstarlight -> Gahh. Rosie. Please. This is going to sound a little repetitive considering I just screamed at you last night, but now I guess I will just have to publicly confess my adoration for you!!! Thank you for being my first online friend in a very long time, and for putting up with me yelling at you about everything (and also nothing at the same time). I can't believe all it took was one message about your Royals AU for you to post it, but I will gladly take that credit any day. You are so so so incredibly talented with your writing, and your ability to transport me to another world while I read your fics is unparalleled. I adore the way you can come up with a new story to write every day, and then proceed to throw it into your pot of other WIPs. I am so so so so lucky to have gotten to know you and am incredibly grateful that I now have someone to cry about everything with 🧡 (If you read anything from Rosie, you need to read her Seasons/Long Distance Juke "friendship" fic and the Reggie x Photography oneshot that made me bawl my eyes out.)

@thedeathdeelers -> No thoughts. Just soulmates. Jk jk, you know I love your Reggie x Ray x Carlos fics, and I will scream in the tags about it until the day I get more of those fics from you. This is lowkey a threat, but wrapped in kindness. You are so wonderful to see on my dash (albeit scary at times because of the sheer amount of headcanons and theories running through your head), but you radiate such positive energy that it's impossible to not want to jump in and scream about soulmates with you.

@unsaidjulie wrote the Juke dog fic of my dreams and I simply cannot express how much I want the Molina’s to have a dog now. 

@pawprinterfanfic managed to get me incredibly invested in a Star Wars AU even though I know absolutely nothing about Star Wars. I just know that I would die for two (2) space boys. 

@sanssssastark  your Later universe made me realize that I do very much want there to be more mature content for this fandom (and you constantly deliver).

@theobligatedklutz wrote a Tangled Willex AU that makes me screech every time there’s an update. Just read it.

@alexthedrummerboy your talent knows no bounds when it comes to your Social Media AU. Also she’s written ORIGINAL songs for Alex and Willie?!?!?! 

@gennified has this really wonderful modern take on pride and prejudice for Willex and I’m so obsessed with how much miscommunication there is.

@bananaleaves okay, I just found your Tumblr today, and I know you don’t know me in any capacity, but allow me to scream about THIS FIC RIGHT HERE. If anyone in this fandom is to read ANYTHING, it’s this fic. This was one of the best things I’ve read in a long time and absolutely wrecked me. Please just read this.

This turned out WAY longer than it was supposed to, and I’m SO SORRY. (I also tried to make sure I got everyone’s pronouns right, so PLEASE let me know if they’re wrong!) Where can i find these Reggie x Nick thought i heard from you? I'm intrigued.

Sorry it took a bit to answer this, Nonnie! But thank you for giving me this opportunity to talk about this new crack ship that I can’t help but love. They haven’t yet reached the same level of love I have for my other “technically” crackship, that is basically canon to me, Flarrie (aka Flynn x Carrie who has become an otp to me and @alexs-fannypack and is a beautiful ship in our canon and deserves to have a ex friends-enemies-lovers sl in s2 and beyond. FIGHT US.) BUT, I literally just came up with the idea of Reggie x Nick like yesterday, so it’s new. However here’s why I really like the idea of them (even though there’s absolutely no basis for them):

How I came up with them was that I was seeing a funny post about Nick and Juke. And it reminded me about my feelings about Nick. Like even though I don’t really ship Nick/Julie and Juke is my OTP of OTP’s on this show (along with Willex), I still felt really bad for him, especially at the end of s1 (they better get Caleb out of him ASAP). He was always so nice and supportive to Julie. Like even after Julie rejected him, he was still so supportive and happy her when she and the band performed at The Orpheum. Nick is just a supportive sweetheart and deserves all the love in the world. 

And then it hit me. You know who else is also a supportive sweetheart that deserves all the love in the world? Our very own Reginald, of course. 

While Luke has Julie and Alex has Willie, my boi Reggie deserves to have someone too. And he’s such an adorable precious bean who loves and supports everyone, and who deserves more love. And yes, that’s basically my whole basis for them. However, I think pairing two characters who both like music and are such supportive sweethearts, together can be really adorable. They can show that love and support to each other. 

Now, you’re probably thinking, “That’s cute and all. But one’s a ghost and one’s a lifer who can’t see him like Julie can. How’s that going to work?” Well, I’m glad you asked. There’s two ways that this can be solved. 

1) I mentioned before that I think after Julie saved her himbos The Phantoms, they got more powerful which explains how she was able to touch them, and were now able to do more stuff. I have different theories of what that exactly entails. But right now we’re going to focus on others seeing them. And there’s two ways that came to mind to help with Reggie x Nick. Either, only people can see them when Julie’s around and/or touching them, or if the ghost has like an emotional connection to them or something. In my Alex fic that I wrote, I explained it being a bit of both. 

2) After Nick is possessed by Caleb and they somehow save him (bc they’re gonna save him dammit), maybe it did something to him that not only makes him able to see the ghosts but touch them as well. 

Now that solving how they can see each other is out of the way. Here’s other random/silly thoughts on why I like the idea of them: 

-Like most of the characters, they both really love music and are really talented. But it’s not really focused like the others. For Reggie, we do see is it (like in The Band Is Back) but it’s mostly either through jokes (e.i the best country song not yet made, Home Is Where My Horse Is) or through their band’s love for music in general. And with Nick, we barely see him in music class in the beginning of 1x01 (which I will expand on in just a second), but I think it’s safe to say that he loves music and that it means a lot to him. It’d be cool to have how they first bond is through music (like with Juke).

- Speaking of their love for music. They both can play the guitar extremely well. Reggie with his bass and Nick with the electric. Like did you see Nick shredding that beautiful blue Les Paul in music class during 1x01?? I think Reggie would totally rock out to that. Now I’m imagining them completely jamming out together.

-They both have great styles that I think can sorta compliment each other in way. Like @alexs-fannypack mentioned, Nick’s fedoras are awesome and I can totally see Reggie being like the only one who brings them up and really loving them. Like Nick’s whole Fedora/old style look matched with Reggie’s 90′s rocker leather jacket/black tank/flannel shirt tied around the waist ensemble? Already iconic. *chef’s kiss*

-And last but certainly not least. Nick would totally play/sing Home Is Where My Horse Is with Reggie. Both out of support for him, but also bc he really loves the song.  

In conclusion: Both Nick and Reggie are precious supportive beans who deserve the world and love (just in case that wasn’t clear from all of the times I mentioned it). And I think they can give that to each other. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

We’re Not Stalking, We Were Just Bored

I love Willex with all my heart and this way I was able to write about them without writing from one of their povs, cause I wasn’t feeling that atm! “Jordan!” Luke whined, drawing out her name.

She was once again laid across the couch with a book in hand, trying to quietly pass the afternoon but Luke was having none of it. Of course Alex was out doing who-knows-what and Reggie was in the house so Luke had no one else to bother but her. 

“Jordan!” Luke called again when he didn’t get a response, louder and more insistent this time.

Jordan groaned irritably, lowering her book to glare at the boy sitting in the chair across from her.

“What do you want?” She sighed, hoping to placate him so he’d leave him alone.

“I’m bored.”

“Oh my gosh.” Jordan rolled her eyes. “Then go do something.”

She picked up her book again but in a flash Luke was next to her, pushing her book back down.

“There’s nothing to do here!”

“Then go somewhere else.”

“I can’t go alone! What if I get lost or wind up in a bad part of town!”

“Then you poof out. You’re a ghost,” Jordan rolled her eyes again with a sigh.

When Luke didn’t say anything in response Jordan looked up, puzzled, only to be met with the boy’s puppy dog face. She glared at him for a moment before turning away.

“I hate you so much,” she muttered to herself before turning back and saying louder, “Fine. Let’s go.”

She sat up, swinging her legs off the couch and placing her bookmark in her book. Luke jumped up excitedly, a grin on his face at his victory.

“There’s a record shop in Hollywood I’ve been meaning to visit,” he announced, grabbing her hand and poofing them away.

When they reappeared outside the record shop Jordan slapped his arm.

“A little warning next time!” She scolded, running her fingers through her hair in an attempt to tame it. “I was not ready to go out yet!”

“Who cares? No one can see you!”

“I care!” Jordan protested, “And don’t try and give me that apathetic garbage, you care about your appearance more than anyone else I know.”

Luke rolled his eyes, pulling his beanie off with a huff and pulling it onto the other ghost’s head. “There. Now can you stop freaking out about your hair?”

Jordan huffed but adjusted the hat on her head.

“Thanks,” she grumbled reluctantly and Luke smiled cheekily.

He moved to usher her into the record store only to notice it was no longer there. The windows had been boarded up and a large ‘For Rent’ sign had been hung on the door.

“Well, that’s a bust then,” Jordan frowned. “Damn. I really liked this shop too.”

Like Luke, Jordan had frequented many of the record shops in the area when she was alive. They’d always been one of her first stops whenever she got birthday money or saved up enough allowance. She and Luke had stumbled upon this one together when they were younger, their parents having sent them out to do some errands. She remembered they’d bickered the whole time up until they walked past the storefront. Deciding to go in and look around might’ve been the first and only thing they’d agreed on when they were alive.

“Woah, wait, there’s Alex!” Luke said, pointing down the street where the blond had just turned onto a side street. “We should follow him!”

“You want to spy on Alex?”

“No! I just wanna observe,” Luke protested, “y’know, for science.”

Jordan laughed at the crappy reasoning.

“C’mon, we don’t have anything better to do,” Luke pouted again and Jordan groaned but let herself be pulled along by the ghost boy.

“Is this some weird jealous ex thing?” She asked warily when she saw that Alex was meeting up with Willie.

“What? No,” Luke snapped his head around to stare bewildered at her. “Jesus. No, Moss. That’s so creepy and weird.”

“Right and the two of us spying on them because we’re bored isn’t weird?”

“Okay I see your point but I just wanna know what they do all day!” Luke reasoned. “It’s so boring at the studio, maybe they know of some fun things to do.”

“Why don’t we just ask them then?”

“Because then we’d have to find something else to do!”

“We could just do what they- y’know what? Never mind.” Jordan gave up. “Just, don’t get us caught okay. I actually like Alex and I’d rather he didn’t think I was a weirdo.”

They followed the two around Hollywood for a long time- much longer than Jordan had anticipated Luke’s attention to last. However, Alex and Willie didn’t ever really do anything. They just walked around Hollywood and talked, which would’ve been quite boring to observe if their objective hadn’t changed very early on in their endeavor. Luke and Jordan had instead become Alex and Willie fangirls, cooing over every small gesture of affection shared between the two ghosts.

“Oh my gosh they’re so adorable,” Luke whined, face scrunched up to portray his emotional pain at the sight.

Willie had just offered his board to Alex, placing his helmet onto the blond’s head and strapping him in carefully.

“Look look look,” Jordan whispered yelled excitedly, repeatedly smacking Luke’s chest with the back of her hand.

“Oh my gosh, I know!” Luke squealed, grabbing her hand and clutching it to his chest.

Alex had climbed onto the board but immediately lost his balance, prompting Willie to reach out to steady him, his hands falling on the ghost boy’s waist while Alex’s hands gripped his shoulders for support.

“If I wasn’t already dead their cuteness would kill me.” Luke deadpanned and Jordan laughed.

They followed from afar as Willie guided Alex along the sidewalk, coaxing the boy to let go of his shoulders. Once Alex seemed to have his balance, Willie let go of the blond’s waist.

“I’m doing it!” Alex cheered excitedly and Willie laughed.

However, the success was short-lived as at the first sign of a lifer Alex panicked, immediately losing his balance and flailing his arms around as he toiled from the skateboard. Luke and Jordan gasped but then let out sighs of relief followed by coos as Willie caught the boy before he could hit the ground.

“Call 9-1-1, there’s been a murder,” Jordan muttered jokingly as she watched Willie and Alex.

“What?” Luke asked, turning towards her in confusion and alarm.

“They killed me,” Jordan blinked at him slowly as she spelled it out. “With their cuteness.”

“Oh right,” Luke nodded before gushing, “They are so cute, aren’t they?”

Jordan nodded, watching him quizzically. It was nice to see him so happy about the ghost couple but it was an uncommon relationship between exes.

“You’re really happy for him, huh?” She asked curiously.

Luke nodded, the tone between them growing more serious as they stopped walking. “He’s my best friend, no matter our past I want the best for him.”

“That’s actually very sweet,” Jordan mused, before switching the tone and teasing, “I didn’t know you had it in you, Patterson.”

Luke’s jaw dropped and Jordan giggled at his expression of disbelief.

“Y’know, you’re a piece of work, Moss.” He shook his head but failed to hide his smile.

“C’mon, let’s go or we’ll lose them,” Jordan nudged his shoulder to get them moving before looking down the sidewalk. “Oh shit, where’d they go?”

“You lost them?” Luke gasped and Jordan’s eyes widened as she spun on the boy.

“I lost them? You’re just as responsible for this as I am!” She protested and Luke opened his mouth to make a retort when he was cut off by a voice behind them.

“Looking for us?”

Luke and Jordan swiveled around only to be face-to-face with the two ghosts they had been following.

“Oh shit.” Jordan cursed and Willie laughed.

“Can you stop stalking us now?” Alex pleaded, staring pointedly at Luke.

“We weren’t stalking you-“ Jordan tried to protest though she knew it was no use, they totally were stalking.

“Yeah! We were just bored!” Luke added as if that completely rationalized their actions.

Jordan forced a guilty smile, hoping that maybe her awkwardness would earn her sympathy from Alex.

“That’s not- okay,” Alex rolled his eyes but let it go. “You guys are idiots, go home.”

Jordan breathed a sigh of relief, smiling apologetically at the pair as she grabbed Luke’s arm, pulling him away.

“Yeah, good idea, sorry!” She called over her shoulder.

Luke elbowed her, sending her an eye roll before poofing them both back to the garage.
