Microsoft AppLocker is an out-of-box application that protects the security of an application in the operating system. Being an application Whitelisting technology from Microsoft, it advances the functionalities and control features of SRPs (Software Restriction Policies) that allow you to create rules for the apps to run them. 118 more mobile applications are banned in India

The Indian government on Wednesday announced that it has banned 118 more mobile applications, including PUBG, within the interest of "sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order" by invoking Section 69 of the Data Technology Act. the govt banned 59 mobile apps within the country back in June. "The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India invoking it’s power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009 and insight of the emergent nature of threats have decided to block 118 mobile apps since insight of information available they are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order," the Ministry of Electronics and information Technology said in a politician release. The Ministry of Information Technology said that it's received many complaints from various sources including several reports about the misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India. This government believes that the move will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision may be a targeted move to make sure the safety and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace. India bans 118 more Chinese mobile apps, including PUBG

The Central government on Wednesday banned 118 Chinese mobile apps, including the popular game PUBG. As per the Union government the apps have been banned by the Ministry of Electronics & Information & Technology as, they were involved in events that are harmful to control, truthfulness, security & safety of the state and public order.

"This discrepancy will safety measure the welfares of crores of Indian mobile & virtual reality handlers. This verdict is a targeted change to confirm the safety, security & control of Indian World Wide Web," said a statement from the ministry.

The statement said it has acknowledged many complaints from many sources, as well as reports about misappropriation use of some mobile apps accessible on Android & iOS platforms, for thieving & surreptitiously spreading users’ data in an unauthorized way to servers placed outside India.

"The accumulating of these information, its exclusion & reporting by fundamentals incompatible to countrywide security & defense of India, which ultimately trespasses upon the sovereignty & veracity of India, is an element of very considerate & straight concern which needs emergency actions," it said.

The government had banned 59 Chinese apps on 29th June 2020 to guarantee the safety & sovereignty of Indian Internet. The list comprised apps like TikTok, Shareit, UC Browser, Helo, Likee, Mi Community, Virus Cleaner, Beauty Plus, WeChat, UC News, Weibo, Xender, Bigo Live, Cam Scanner, Clean Master – Cheetah Mobile, etc.

A month later it had banned 47 more apps for supposedly functioning as “replicas” of the earlier banned apps. With the fresh ban, the sum of Chinese apps banned in India now stands at 224.

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs has also sent a comprehensive recommendation for blocking these malicious apps, said the declaration. "Likewise, there have been equal mutual concerns, highlighted by numerous public administrations, both exterior & privileged the Parliament of India. There has been a solid refrain in the public space to take harsh action against apps that damage India’s control as well as the privacy of our residents," it added.

On the source of these & in receipt of of recent sincere efforts that evidence posted, consents sought, functionality implanted as well as data gathering practices of above-stated Apps raise serious apprehensions that these Apps collect & share data in secret way & conciliation individual data & info of users that can have a unembellished hazard to safety & security of the State.

The list now also contains apps like Baidu & WeChat but the biggest name on it is indisputably PUBG Mobile. The first time the government launched its “digital” strike on China to defence India’s confidentiality, safety & security, many were left speculating how & why PUBG Mobile had missed the ban. It could have been due to the app’s complicated — read, mixed — origin.

PUBG is an online multiplayer battle royal game made by South Korean video game company Bluehole subsidiary PUBG Corporation. But PUBG Mobile is not made by the same subsidiary. When PUBG Mobile was primarily launched, the object behind it was to make PUBG enter China as the game was banned there. The game was unrestricted in China only after Shenzhen-based Tencent Games accepted a 1.5% stake in Bluehole Studio, & this was how PUBG Mobile came into being. The rest is history.

With the government now banning PUBG Mobile, it is clear that it wants to set a solid superiority that the nation’s privacy cannot be taken for granted.

Both Google & Apple will have to obey with the new presiding & eliminate these apps, including PUBG Mobile, from the Play Store & App Store correspondingly. ISPs will also have to selectively block these apps so current users can’t access them till further announcement.

India bloquea 'PUBG Mobile' y 'Arena Of Valor', entre otras más de 100 aplicaciones de origen chino

El 29 de junio nos hacíamos eco la noticia: el Gobierno de India barría del mapa 59 aplicaciones chinas, entre ellas TikTok y WeChat. Dicho bloqueo tenía por motivo que las apps podían "ser perjudiciales para la soberanía e integridad de la India, defensa de la India, seguridad del estado y el orden público", un bloqueo que supuso un duro golpe para el software de origen chino. Ahora, en un segundo golpe, India bloquea más de 100 aplicaciones, entre las que se incluye 'PUBG Mobile', uno de los juegos más populares en el mundo.

El Ministerio de Electrónica y Tecnología de la información (IT) ha publicado una nueva lista con una total de 118 aplicaciones. De nuevo, se esgrimen motivos "de seguridad", asegurando asimismo que han recibido "muchas quejas de diversas fuentes, entre ellas varias denuncias sobre el uso indebido de algunas aplicaciones móviles" en Android y iOS para "robar y a escondidas transmitir los datos de los usuarios de manera no autorizada a servidores que se encuentran fuera de la India".

El segundo golpe de India a las apps de origen Chino

India ha bloqueado un total de 118 aplicaciones, entre ellas 'PUBG Mobile' y 'Arena Of Valor', dos de los juegos más populares del mercado móvil. El Ministerio asegura que la decisión se toma por motivos de seguridad, vista "la naturaleza de las amenazas". Según el gobierno han "recibido quejas y varias denuncias" acerca de que algunas de estas aplicaciones, supuestamente, envían datos a servidores que se encuentran fuera de India.

"El Ministerio de Electrónica y Tecnología de la Información del Gobierno de la India invocando su poder en virtud del artículo 69A de la Ley de Tecnología de la Información leído con el disposiciones pertinentes de la Ley de Tecnología de la Información (Procedimiento y Salvaguardias para Bloqueo del acceso a la información por parte del público) Normas de 2009 y en vista de la emergente naturaleza de las amenazas ha decidido bloquear 118 aplicaciones para móviles (véase el Apéndice) ya que en vista de de la información disponible se dedican a actividades que son perjudiciales para la soberanía y la integridad de la India, la defensa de la India, la seguridad del Estado y el orden público."

PUBG Mobile es el nombre más sonado en este lista, un fuerte golpe a la entrega de Tencent. Es curioso asimismo que otros juegos hermanos de PUBG Mobile, como Call Of Duty: Mobile, no se hayan bloqueado. En el caso de PUBG Mobile, según datos de Sensor Tower, se ha descargado más de 175 millones de veces (datos de julio 2020) y ha superado los 1.000 millones de dólares en ingresos a nivel global.

El popular juego se suma a la anterior prohibición, en la que cayeron grandes como TikTok, WeChat o Xiaomi Video Call. Este supone así el segundo gran golpe que recibe el software de origen chino en India.

Government of India today through Ministry of Electronics & IT decided to ban 118 more apps after banning previously various apps including TikTok etc, in,light of the facts that these apps are engaged in activities which detrimental to "sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of state and public order."

Windows 10 is a series of personal computer operating systems produced by Microsoft as part of its Windows NT family of operating systems. It is the successor to Windows 8.1, and was released to manufacturing on July 15, 2015, and to retail on July 29, 2015.

Windows 10 receives new releases on an ongoing basis, which are available at no additional cost to users. Devices in enterprise environments can receive these updates at a slower pace, or use long-term support milestones that only receive critical updates, such as security patches, over their ten-year lifespan of extended support.

With the Windows 10 May 2019 Update we delivered several important features for Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC), which was originally introduced to Windows as part of a scenario called Device Guard. WDAC works in conjunction with features like Windows Defender Application Guard, which provides hardware-based isolation of Microsoft Edge for enterprise-defined untrusted sites, to strengthen the security posture of Windows 10 systems.

Our focus for this release was responding to some longstanding feedback on manageability improvements. We’re excited to introduce the following new capabilities in Windows Defender Application Control:

File path rules, including optional runtime admin protection checks

Multiple policy file support with composability

Application Control CSP to provide a new, richer MDM policy management capability

COM object registration support in policy

Disabling script enforcement rule option

Application control is frequently identified as one of the most effective mitigations against modern security threats, because anything that’s not allowed by policy is blocked from running. Even striving towards a simple policy like mandating that only signed code is allowed to execute can be incredibly impactful: in a recent analysis of Windows Defender ATP data, we saw that 96% of malware encountered is unsigned. Systems like Windows 10 in S mode, which uses WDAC technology to enforce that all code must be signed by Windows and Microsoft Store code signing certificates, have no malware infection issues.

The new capabilities are designed to ease the journey for customers adopting application control in real-world environments with large numbers of applications, users, and devices.

File path rules, including optional runtime admin protection checks

For many customers looking to adopt application execution control while balancing IT overhead, rules based on file paths on managed client systems provide a useful model. The Windows 10 May 2019 Update introduces support for both allow and deny rules based on file path in Windows Defender Application Control.

File path rules had been one of the few features available in AppLocker, the older native application control technology, that were not available to WDAC; deployment tools and methodologies built on top of AppLocker like AaronLocker have relied on these rules as an important simplifying option for policy management. As we sought to close that gap, we wanted to preserve the stronger security posture available with WDAC that customers have come to expect. To this end, WDAC applies, by default, an option to check at runtime that apps and executables allowed based on file path rules must come from a file path that’s only writable by administrator or higher privileged accounts. This runtime check provides an additional safeguard for file path rules that are otherwise inherently weaker than other identifiers like hash or signer rules, which rely on cryptographically verifiable attributes.

This runtime capability can be controlled with the “Disabled:Runtime FilePath Rule Protection” rule option.

The following example shows how to easily create rules for anything allowed under “Program Files” and “Program Files (x86)”, and then merge them with the sample policy that allows all Windows signed code (available under C:WindowsschemasCodeIntegrityExamplePolicies). The resulting merged policy file allows all Windows signed code and applications installed under “Program Files” and “Program Files (x86)” with the runtime protection that checks that anything executing under those paths is coming from a location only writable by administrator or higher privileged accounts.

Multiple policy file support with composability

Limiting support to a single policy file means that a variety of app control scenarios from potentially different stakeholders or business groups need to be maintained in one place. This comes with an associated overhead: the coordination required to converge on the appropriate rules encapsulated in a single policy file.

With the Windows 10 May 2019 Update multiple policy files are supported for WDAC. To facilitate composing behavior from multiple policy files, we have introduced the concept of base and supplemental policies:

Base policies – For any execution to be allowed, the application must pass each base policy independently. Base policies are used together to further restrict what’s allowed. For example: Let’s assume a system has two policies: Base Policy A and Base Policy B with their own sets of rules. For foo.exe to run, it must be allowed by the rules in Base Policy A and also the rules in Base Policy B. Windows Defender Application Control policies on prior Windows 10 systems will continue to work on the May 2019 Update and will be treated as base policies.

Supplemental policies – As the name suggests, supplemental policies complement base policies with additional rules to be considered as part of the base policies they correspond to. Supplemental policies are tied to a specific base policy with an ID; a base policy may have multiple supplemental policies. Supplemental policies expand what is allowed by any base policy, but deny rules specified in a supplemental policy will not be honored.

Application Control CSP

Customers have been able to deploy Windows Defender Application Control policies via MDM using the CodeIntegrity node of the AppLocker configuration service provider (CSP). The AppLocker CSP has a number of limitations, most notably the lack of awareness of rebootless policy deployment support.

The Windows 10 May 2019 Update now has a new Application Control CSP, which introduces much richer support for policy deployment over MDM and also provides support for:

Rebootless policy deployment (For policies that have the “Enabled:Update Policy No Reboot” option set, the new Application Control CSP will not schedule a reboot on client systems getting the policy)

Support for the new multiple policies

For device management software vendors, better error reporting

COM object registration support

Windows Defender Application Control enforces a built-in allow list of COM object registrations to reduce the risk introduced from certain powerful COM objects. Customers have reported that while this capability is desirable from a security perspective, there are specific cases in their environments where they’d like to allow the registration of additional COM objects required for their business.

With the Windows 10 May 2019 Update customers can now specify COM objects that need to be allowed in environments they’re managing with Windows Defender Application Control policies.

Disabled: Script Enforcement rule option support

The Windows 10 May 2019 Update with KB4497935 introduces proper support for the Disabled: Script Enforcement rule option.

Customers recognize the importance of having restrictions on script hosts but are often looking to break up their application control projects into smaller chunks to help with deployment feasibility. The “Disabled:Script Enforcement” rule option in the policy now turns off policy enforcement for MSIs, PowerShell scripts, and wsh-hosted scripts. This will allow IT departments to tackle EXE, DLL, and driver enforcement without needing to also simultaneously address script host control.
