Arabic cuisine is a rich tapestry of flavors and ingredients, and it's not just about delicious dishes. The Middle East is also renowned for its exquisite and diverse range of sweets that have been delighting palates for centuries. These treats not only satisfy your sweet tooth but also offer a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region. In this article, we'll take you on a delectable journey through the enchanting world of Arabic sweets.
Baklava: Layers of Sweet Bliss
Baklava is perhaps the most famous Arabic sweet, known for its intricate layers of phyllo pastry, nuts, and aromatic spices. The pastry is drenched in a fragrant syrup, which makes each bite a delightful combination of crunchy and sticky, sweet and nutty. Variations of baklava can be found throughout the Middle East, each with its own unique twist.
Kunafa: A Sweet Sensation
Kunafa is another Arabic dessert that deserves the spotlight. It consists of thin, vermicelli-like pastry strands soaked in sugar-based syrup, often layered with cheese, cream, or nuts. The contrast between the crunchy exterior and the soft, creamy interior is a flavor explosion that's truly unforgettable.
Ma'amoul: Bite-sized Sweet Perfection
Ma'amoul is small, delicate, shortbread-like cookies filled with a variety of sweet fillings such as dates, figs, or nuts. These little gems are traditionally shaped using intricately designed wooden molds, making them not only delicious but also visually appealing. Ma'amoul is often enjoyed during special occasions and festivals.
Basbousa: A Semolina Sweet Delight
Basbousa, also known as Revani or Hareeseh, is a popular semolina cake drenched in fragrant sugar syrup. It's often adorned with almonds, coconut flakes, or a dusting of powdered sugar. The result is a moist and aromatic dessert that's both comforting and heavenly.
Qatayef: Arabic Pancakes with a Twist
Qatayef is a popular dessert during the holy month of Ramadan. These small, folded pancakes can be filled with various sweet fillings, such as cheese, nuts, or a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. They are then either baked or fried to crispy perfection, offering a delectable balance of textures and flavors.
Aish El Saraya: The Queen of Arabic Puddings
Aish El Saraya is a luscious Lebanese dessert that combines the goodness of creamy custard and soft, spongy cake. It's typically topped with a generous layer of rose or orange blossom water-infused sugar syrup, making it an exquisite treat for those with a sweet tooth.
Atayef: The Stuffed Mini Pancakes
Atayef is small, stuffed pancakes that are typically folded into a half-moon shape and filled with a mixture of nuts or sweet cheese. They can be served both fried or baked and are enjoyed throughout the year but are especially popular during the month of Ramadan.
Rahat Al Hulqoum: A Chewy Delight
Rahat Al Hulqoum, commonly known as Turkish Delight, is a chewy, sweet confectionery made from starch and sugar, often flavored with rosewater, orange blossom water, or various fruit flavors. These colorful, bite-sized morsels are a sweet treat that provides a delightful explosion of flavors with every bite.
Arabic sweets not only captivate the taste buds but also serve as a delightful reminder of the rich history and culture of the Middle East. Each sweet has a story to tell, a tradition to uphold, and a unique flavor profile that is bound to leave a lasting impression on anyone fortunate enough to indulge in it. 3 Restaurants and 3 Best meals you will get in Qatar
Do any of the hotels in Qatar serve afternoon tea or hi-tea? The world over, people have copied the well-known British custom. There is a wide variety of high teas and afternoon teas to choose from, including those with a French theme, whimsy, and refinement, as well as some that are sky-high and perfect for a quick pick-me-up or a catch-up with friends. We have compiled a list of the best places in Qatar’s most opulent restaurants to enjoy afternoon tea, so be ready to raise your pinky in the air.
Jiwan Restaurant
Having afternoon tea at Jiwan’s outdoor terrace overlooking the National Museum of Qatar at sunset is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Chicken pita, honey ice cream, and chocolate-date cookies are all that’s on the menu, but with these vistas, you won’t care. The interior design complements the food offerings by evoking the outdoors and the rich maritime traditions that are so important to the people of Qatar. Fire, water, air, and soil, the ancient Bedouin elements utilised in cooking, are used to create new and interesting takes on well-known tastes and sensations. The end product is a feast that honours the evolving cuisine of Qatar. Concise but elegant. Intriguingly new yet nostalgically familiar at the same time.
Tumblr media
Harrods Tea Room
Harrods Tea Room in Msherieb will provide you with a spectacular afternoon tea experience. They offer two kinds of hi-tea right now: the Summer 2022 “Best of British Summer” high tea comes with an amuse bouche, savoury items like Devonshire Crab and English Cucumber, scones, and pastries like Strawberry Cheesecake, Meadow Honey Cake, Mango, Passion, and Coconut Sphere, and more.Cream Tea is a smaller version of the traditional afternoon tea that includes traditional scones, clotted cream, and jams from Harrods.
Tumblr media
W Café
W Café is a great place to unwind with an afternoon tea in the middle of West Bay. Freshly brewed tea pairs perfectly with savoury foods like salmon or cucumber sandwiches, as well as scones and delicious sweets. Snacks that won’t fill you up completely. Stop by the friendly W Café for a hot beverage and a snack. All kind of tasty cupcakes, cookies, and other baked goodies are available to satiate your sweet need. Send it around. A takeout service is also available.
Shawarma
One of the world’s most well-known and well-loved street foods is shawarma. It is typical to use chicken or lamb for this dish, and the meat is traditionally slow-grilled for almost a full day before being rolled up and served. Compared to the prices of shawarmas in other Arab countries, those served in Qatar are inexpensive. They are also flavorful, with just the proper number of condiments, perfectly grilled meat, and fresh pita bread. Any eater who ventures out into the world will find that the shawarma in Qatar lives up to its wildest expectations in terms of its consistency and flavor profile. The roll of pita bread is crammed full of grilled chicken that has been artfully coated in garlic sauce and mayonnaise.
Tumblr media
Biryani
Popular in the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent, where it got its start. Traditionally, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, bay leaves, coriander, mint, ginger, garlic, and onions are used to season basmati rice in a dish called biryani. The rice grains used to be a variegated white and yellow-orange hue and have a mild saffron flavor thanks to the addition of orange saffron milk on top of the dish before baking. For only a reasonable, you may get half of the enormous chicken biryani. Request some bread on the side to soak up the savory raita (a yogurt sauce flavored with coriander).
Tumblr media
Falafel
Chickpeas, fava beans, or both can be mashed up and used to make falafel, which is a popular vegan snack. Falafel can be purchased as round flat cutlets or as small crispy balls that have been deep fried. These fried dumplings, which contain tahini, garlic, parsley, and coriander as part of their filling, can be eaten on their own or stuffed into pita pockets along with salad and pickles. Falafel is a versatile food that can be eaten at any time of the day; people often eat it for breakfast, as an appetizer, or as a snack. It is a healthy source of energy that can be enjoyed whenever one so desires.

What do you think about twst boys visiting your hometown? I like to think about this when my days are particularly shitty
Tumblr media
Okay, first of all - I'm so sorry for taking so long to reply to this. Life was life-ing and second, this actually was a fun thought exercise to have on an airplane (and a pretty cool way to cure boredom) so thank you 😊
So, first thing's first: 'home town' can mean a lot of things in relation to me. You see, my parents are Sri Lankan, I spent the majority of my childhood in the UK (Wales and England) before moving to Qatar like eight years ago - and I can see shenanigans in all three of those places. So let me split this up by country and the dorm I'd have the most fun with
Sri Lanka: So after some thinking, I'd say Octavinelle - mainly because of the food. Lanka is a small island in the middle of the ocean and we do love our cuisine. Honestly, I only go there on holiday to meet relatives and there's not really much to do there in terms of entertainment that you can't do anywhere else so I think introducing the food to the fish mafia is the most I can think of (that and trying to stop Floyd from making off with a three-wheeler)
UK: I mean, you can't not have the Heartslabyul gang in London. Like, taking them to zoos/petting zoos, strawberry farms, tea rooms/high tea, the bakeries, Buckingham Palace, the London Dungeons the sweet magicamable places for Cater's camera.
Also, I would like to invite the Diasomnia gang as well 1) because of all of the historical landmarks and 2) because I think UK is the most superstitious with regards to fairies and I think they'd have a kick out of that
Qatar: obviously the Scarabia duo. Like, I have so much fun going to the souqs and dunes because I get all delulu and imagine going on a date with them in the Scalding Sands. I imagine they'd feel right at home here and it would be fun to compare and contrast the differences between their home country and Doha - like the food, the clothing, the architecture. Also, I'm a firm believer in arabic speaking!Kalim and Jamil so it would be so cool to have them translate things I can't understand. We'd have so much fun drinking karak tea, going dune bashing and quad biking.
Thanks for the ask 😊

To feel envy is human, to savour schadenfreude is devilish.
- Arthur Schopenhauer
I was in the stadium with members of my family and friends watching the epic Japan vs Spain World Cup game. What an atmosphere at the end of the game when both Japanese and Spanish fans realised they were now through the group and that Germany were now knocked out of the World Cup despite their 4-2 win over Costa Rica.
Spain completely dominated the first half, but Japan overcame this to win 2-1 stunningly. Spain chose Alvaro Morata as their customary number nine, which instantly paid dividends as the Atlético Madrid player headed in the opening goal after receiving a precise cross. As Spain dominated possession and limited Japan to a few half-chances in the first half, Morata continued to provide a threat from inside the box.
After the break, Japan's high-intensity pressing punished Spain for sloppy passing by stealing the ball, which replacement Ritsu Doan skillfully finished. Almost shortly after, Japan put the ball in the back of the net once more, and a VAR review affirmed that Ao Tanaka's goal stood. Minutes before the end, Dani Olmo came within inches of winning, but Japan held on thanks to an outstanding second-half performance to win Group E. The ‘Samurai Blue’ more than deserved their draw and to go through. They were tenacious and full of self belief and energy. It was a great game.
At the end of the game Japanese fans were crying with joy and the Spaniards along with neutrals in the stands joined them. It was a cathartic moment for all football fans when it dawned on us that German were humiliated and on their way home.
In the hotel bars afterwards the drink flowed. I was with Japanese friends and Spanish friends and others as we celebrated. Never did a Suntory Yamazaki 12 Year Old single malt whisky taste so sweet. We watched around us Qataris on television having fun at the Germans’ expense.
On the eve of the World Cup the game’s governing body threatened to book players – such as the seven European captains, including Germany’s Manuel Neuer – who were planning on wearing the OneLove armbands, which promote diversity and inclusivity. Same-sex relationships and the promotion of same-sex relationships is criminalised in Qatar, a Muslim-majority country with Islam as the state religion.
In protest, the Germans had covered their mouths - a reference to being silenced by FIFA - for their pre-match photograph before the Japan game. “Human rights are non-negotiable,” the German federation said in a statement at the time. “That should be taken for granted, but it still isn’t the case. That’s why this message is so important for us. Denying us the armband is the same as denying us a voice. We stand by our position.” Their conduct greatly angered the Qataris - and indeed many Arabs and other Muslims here at the World Cup. They saw double standards and starch western hypocrisy at work, and even racism.
The Germans have a point - up to a point. But so do the Qataris - it is after all their sovereign country, not ours. Qataris and others would say if you don’t speak up for the Uygher Muslim being rounded up in concentration camps in China during the last Winter Olympics, or speak up for the endless litany of human righrs violation in Putin’s Russia during the last footbal World Cup, then what leg are you standing on to speak up for others elsewhere? Why are you so selective in your activism? Activism is easy when it doesn’t cost you anything.
Much of the Western media coverage of the World Cup is so misinformed and just plain hyperbolic BS.
In any case, German had decided to focus their energies on their holier than thou woke virtue signalling at the start of this tournament rather than focus on the football.
They paid the piper.
The Japanese have a saying: “The misfortunes of others taste like honey.” The French speak of joie maligne, a diabolical delight in other people’s suffering. The Danish talk of skadefryd, and the Dutch of leedvermaak. In Hebrew enjoying other people’s catastrophes is simcha la‑ed, in Mandarin xìng‑zāi‑lè‑huò, in Serbo-Croat it is zlùradōst and in Russian zloradstvo. More than 2,000 years ago, Romans spoke of malevolentia. Earlier still, the Greeks described epichairekakia (literally epi, over, chairo, rejoice, kakia, disgrace). “To see others suffer does one good,” wrote the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. “To make others suffer even more so. This is a hard saying, but a mighty, human, all-too-human principle.”
The Germans of course call it schadenfreude. I love the German word: schadenfreude. From Schaden, meaning damage or harm, and freude, meaning joy or pleasure: damage-joy.
The philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer called it “an infallible sign of a thoroughly bad heart and profound moral worthlessness,” the very worst trait in human nature. (He also said that anyone caught enjoying the suffering of others should be shunned from human society.)
I have come to believe that Schopenhauer was wrong. We might worry that a taste for other people’s misery will corrupt our souls, yet this emotion is far from simply “bad.” It touches on things that have mattered most to human societies for millennia: our instincts for fairness and hatred of hypocrisy; our love of seeing our rival suffer in the hope that we might win ourselves; our itch to measure ourselves against others and make sense of our choices when we fall short; how we bond with each other; what makes us laugh. If we peer more closely at this hidden and much-maligned emotion, liberate ourselves from its shame and secrecy, we will discover a great deal about who we really are.
It’s telling no one I’ve observed talks about LGBT rights or even migrant labour exploitation in the bars or just amongst the football gathering of fans. They just came for the football. It’s a reminder that the self-important culture wars of the West are of little importance to the wider world. They really don’t care.
Football may not bring the world together around LGBT issues but it sure can unite the world around having a laugh at Germany’s ignominious exit from the Qatar World Cup. I would call that progress.

Qatar's Fusion Feast: Blending Cultures in Food Services
Tumblr media
Qatar, a small but vibrant nation on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, is renowned for its rich cultural tapestry and rapid modernization. One of the most fascinating aspects of this cultural amalgamation is reflected in its food service market. The Qatar food service market has emerged as a dynamic arena where diverse culinary traditions converge, creating a unique and flavorful fusion feast.
A Melting Pot of Flavors
Qatar's strategic location as a global hub and its booming expatriate population have significantly influenced its culinary landscape. The food service market in Qatar is a testament to the country's openness to different cultures and cuisines. From traditional Qatari dishes to international delicacies, the gastronomic offerings are as varied as they are delicious.
The Rise of Fusion Cuisine
Fusion cuisine has become a defining trend in Qatar's food service market. Restaurants and eateries are increasingly experimenting with blending local ingredients and flavours with those from other cultures. This creative culinary approach not only satisfies the diverse palate of residents and visitors but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the rich culinary heritage of different regions.
Popular examples of fusion cuisine in Qatar include:
Qatari-Asian Fusion: Combining the spices and cooking techniques of Qatari cuisine with the fresh and vibrant flavours of Asian dishes.
Mediterranean-Arabic Fusion: Merging the healthy and light elements of Mediterranean food with the hearty and aromatic components of Arabic cuisine.
Western-Middle Eastern Fusion: Integrating Western cooking styles and ingredients with traditional Middle Eastern recipes, resulting in innovative and delectable dishes.
The Influence of Global Brands
The Qatar food service market has also seen an influx of global food chains and franchises, each bringing its unique culinary traditions to the local scene. These international brands adapt their menus to cater to local tastes while introducing new flavours and dining experiences. This cross-cultural exchange enriches the food service market, making it a melting pot of global gastronomy.
Traditional Meets Modern
While fusion cuisine and international brands play a significant role in the Qatar food service market, traditional Qatari food remains a cornerstone. Local dishes such as Machbous (a spiced rice dish with meat or fish), Harees (a porridge-like dish made of wheat and meat), and Luqaimat (sweet dumplings) are cherished by both locals and tourists. These traditional foods often find their way into fusion dishes, creating a delightful blend of the old and the new.
Sustainability and Local Sourcing
As the food service market in Qatar continues to evolve, there is a growing emphasis on sustainability and local sourcing. Chefs and restaurateurs are increasingly turning to locally produced ingredients, not only to support local farmers but also to ensure the freshness and quality of their dishes. This trend is particularly evident in the rise of farm-to-table dining experiences, where the journey from farm to plate is celebrated.
The Future of Qatar's Food Service Market
Looking ahead, the Qatar food service market is poised for continued growth and innovation. The fusion of cultures will remain a driving force, with new culinary trends emerging as the country continues to welcome people from all over the world. The focus on sustainability and local sourcing is likely to intensify, reflecting a global shift towards more environmentally conscious dining practices.
In conclusion, Qatar's food service market is a vibrant and ever-evolving tapestry of flavours, cultures, and culinary traditions. The fusion feast that characterises this market not only delights the taste buds but also tells the story of a nation that embraces diversity and innovation. As Qatar continues to blend cultures in its food services, it sets a delectable example for the world to follow.

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, November 9, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — Alkyl Naphthalene Sulfonates (ANS) are a class of synthetic organic compounds that are used in a variety of industries. They are made by sulfonating naphthalene, which is a component of coal tar. ANS have many uses, including as surfactants, dispersants, and emulsifiers. ANS are very effective surfactants, meaning they can reduce the surface tension of water. This makes them useful for cleaning products and other industrial applications. ANS are also good dispersants, which means they can help keep particles suspended in liquids. This makes them useful for paints and other products that need to maintain a uniform mixture. Finally, ANS are also good emulsifiers, meaning they can help keep oil and water from separating. This makes them useful for food products and cosmetics.

Some wild edible plants from the Arabian peninsula. For my own reference and whoever else would like to know:
Note: I'm not 100 percent on the toxicity of these plants. Information on them is few and far between.
Fruits:
Tumblr media
Nitraria retusa:
red edible berries. Salt tolerant plant. Grows in the Middle East and North Africa.
(photo from username:Naturalist on iNatutalist. Image a plant with somewhat fleshy leaves and bright red berries)
Tumblr media
Glossonema varians:
The fruit of this small wild plant are edible. They're harvested when green.
Image: photo from salla.sa (saudi seed merchant) the image is of a khaleeji style hat filled with tear drop shaped fruits. They are green ranging to brown and are covered with fleshy spikes.
Tumblr media
Capparis spinosa: needs no introduction. This plant has edible fruit and flower buds (usually pickled)
Image: caper bush in full bloom. From alamy stock photos. It's has white flowers with pink stamens
Tumblr media
cocculus pendulus: more of a vine than a tree. edible berries
Image: photo from flora of Qatar. Image is a close up of a red berry with leaves similar to olive leaves.
Tumblr media
Lycium shawii:
A close relative of the goji berry. It's apparently edible but some say it's poisonous or harmful in large amounts..
Image: Wikipedia commons: image of a spiky plant with small greyish leaves and red berries.
Tumblr media
Ziziphis (Spina Cristi, nummimura)
A tree, grows wild usually in wadis, it's fruit is edible and the leaves contain saponins and are traditionally used for washing hair and bodies of the dead before burial.
Image: Wikipedia, image of a broadleaved branch filled with little yellow flowers and some dark purplish fruit.
Tumblr media
Rhus tripartita:
Arabic sources say it has delicious fruit. English sources all have the copy pasted line "the Arabs make an intoxicating drink from it's fruits" not sure of the original source.
Image:( flora of saudi) plant with oak like leaves, but smaller, it has green berries not yet red.
Tumblr media
Sideroxylon mascatense: this tree grows in the mountains in oman and Yemen (it used to grow in the uae but not anymore) and the horn of Africa. It has small black berries. It's called boot in oman and is one of the few fruits listed here that I've actually tasted.
Image: from flora of the middle east. Plant with spiky branches, oval leaves and small black berries.
Tumblr media
Grewia tenax:
Fruit is eaten fresh, dried or powdered in drinks.
Image: Wikipedia. Image of a branch, toothed leaves with a pretty white flower with slender petals and next to it is an orange fruit that looks like four orbs stuck together.
Edible greens
Erucaria hispanica: called wild rocket.
aizoon canariense: the seeds are also edible and the fleshy leaves are used as a salad green.
Rumex vesicatius: a kind of sorrel, it's sour and contain oxalic acid so can't be eaten in great quantities. It appears after the rain. Most of these greens do
Rumex cyprius: same as the above.
Cheeseweed mallow: called khubaizah in Arabic. The leaves are edible
Corchorus olitorius: jute mallow or molokhia. Popular pot herb in the middle east.
Brassica tournefortii: saharan mustard. The leaves are edible and spicy.
Edible roots
Emex spinosa: has a sweet edible root similar to a carrot but thinner.
Moraea sisyrinchium: a wild iris plant also called the barbary nut, despite some toxicity it's bulb is collected in the wild and eaten
Allium atroviolaceum: a wild leek.
Tarthooth: a parasitic plant. It's flowers are used for dye and it's flesh is edible.
Useful plants:
Salvadora persica: a large sprawling bush. Its roots are popular as toothbrushes. It's has berries and some people eat them but they taste awful so I leave them for the birds.
Moringa peregrina: this plant grows in the mountains it's seed oil used to be collected and sold. It's medicinal and cosmetic.
As you can see there's more than enough here to incorporate into any permaculture project in Arabia. Tho a lot of these plants are not cultivated and I'm not sure how easy they'd be to grow (a lot are native to mountains and won't be used to sea level shenanigans) . Im keeping an eye out for them and planning to grow them in my yard for now (those I can find)

WORLD LITERATURE
Tumblr media
World literature is used to refer to a literature being circulated outside the country where it was published, and it’s pretty sure that everyone nowadays is very familiar with literature, because, who isn’t? People these days lives their daily lives with literature, surely, it surrounds our lives. Ever wonder if there’s an occurrence one day in our life, a day without literature? Will we able to live with it? Well, I don’t think so, after all, literature is our life. Now, before we go to the topic, lets have a brief introduction about when did the literature began.
The literature began early before 17th century, and ever since that time, it had a big impact from all over the world, it almost had taken up the whole world, a world of literature, indeed. And since the literature continues to expand, its dominant themes and styles of each literature around the world, expands, as well. And of course, up until today, there are still many more surprising notions about the literature all over the world!
Today, I’ll show you different dominant themes and styles of literature from Southeast Asia, East Asia, South and West Asia, Anglo-America and Europe, Africa, and Latin America. I hope that in the end, you’ll learn something new about the different themes and styles from around the world.
Tumblr media
1.       SOUTHEAST ASIA LITERATURE
Southeast Asia consists of 11 countries in total, these are Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. All of these countries were colonized by the other countries, except Thailand, that’s why most of their literary works were mostly influenced by the countries who colonized them. Just like in the Philippines,  The Philippines were colonized by the Spaniards, Japanese, and Americans; however most of the literature here in the Philippines were predominantly influenced by the Spaniards for they colonized the country for 333 years.
The Southeast Asian literature’s dominant theme are mainly diaspora (diasporic) theme. Diasporic theme focuses on stories outside the country where the writer is, it also talks about the experiences of an immigrant in a foreign country. Some example of a diasporic theme literature is “Banyaga: A song of War” by Charlson Ong, the story is about how Ernesto (protagonist) struggles living outside the country he came from, and fun fact, the author Charlson Ong’s relation with the main character is that they shared the same experiences! It’s like the author tells his very own life story in the presence of Ernesto as the character. “Banyaga: A Song of War” as well, portrays the Filipino culture, as the author being half Filipino.
Tumblr media
2.       East Asia Literature
East Asia consists of 8 countries in total, these are China, Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mongolia, and Macao. Without a doubt, East Asia is the most popular region in the whole world because of the countries it consists of. Mainly, the East Asia literature were mostly influenced by the Chinese writers; commonly, the China is the building block of the counties in the East Asia, on a fact that most of the East Asia country were colonized by the Chinese. With all of the 8 countries, the Chines and Japanese literature is the most prominent among the East Asia literature.
However, the Japanese literature has a different style, too. Their literature is mostly fond of ambiguous theme, wherein it has a deep meaning and sometimes, the reader wouldn’t get the meaning of it if you are from other countries or city in Japan. The Japanese literature is also well-known for its Haiku and Tanka poems.
Some example of the East Asia literature is Seol Gongchan-jeon (The Tale of Seol Gongchan), korean literature written by Chae Su, the novel was written during the early Joseon era and was originally written in classical Chinese text. The story of said novel is about a person being possessed by the dead spirit who tells story from the underworld. But, the said novel was banned during its era of publication.
Other example of the East Asia literature is a Tanka poem from the Japanese literature. Tanka poems are mostly commonly written as an expression of love and/or gratitude, it may, as well a self-reflection poem.
Narukami no sukoshi toyomite
(A faint clap of thunder)
sashi kumori
     (Clouded skies)
Ame mo furanu ka?
     (Perhaps rain comes)
Kimi wo todomemu
(If so, will you stay here with me?)
Narukami no sukoshi toyomite
     (A faint clap of thunder)
furazu to mo
     (Even if rain comes not)
warewa tomaramu
     (I will stay here)
imoshi todomeba
     (Together with you)
Tumblr media
3.       South and West Asia Literature
The South and West Asia consists of 17 countries, mostly the Middle East region, these countries are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cyprus, Georgia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Apparently, the South and West Asia is commonly known for their own films, “Bollywood” rather than other literature. However, they do, of course have a unique styles and themes of literature.
Literature from the 21st Century Middle East circumscribes a lot assortments of genres, it, as well talks about human experiences oftentimes through a realist manners. Also, what makes their literature unique is that they have or includes their own traditions and practices of their culture.
One example of South and West Asia Literature is “White Tiger” a novel written by an Indian author named Aravin Adiga. It talks about the life of an Indian in the light and darkness, although most part of the novel focusses on India of darkness.  Also, the novel has a darkly humorous perspective of Indian’s struggles in life.  Here’s some excerpt from the novel “The White Tiger”
“In fact, each time when great men like you visit our country I say it. Not that I have anything against great men. In my way, sir, I consider myself one of your kind. But whenever I see our prime minister and his distinguished sidekicks drive to the airport in black cars and get out and do namastes before you in front of a TV camera and tell you about how moral and saintly India is, I have to say that thing in English.”
Tumblr media
4.       Anglo-America and Europe Literature
The Anglo-America is a large region that covers up 14 countries in total, these are Canada, United States, Belize, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Guyana, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago. And as we all know, Europe is a large continent that consists a lot of countries, well, we’ll not go to far with mentioning all those countries. The Anglo-American literature is closely linked to traditional English, since the American was colonized by the English, they adapted their literature, as well and was influenced by the English writers. However, the history of their literature is too wide, it covers up from the Old English until the Contemporary era.
In spite of that Anglo- American combined literature, the American literature is imposing to be separated to the Anglo (English), but why? The American literature has a distinct characteristic which evolves through eras and such; them, too have their own unique feature, themes, and styles of literature. In short, they have their own, so, for them, what is the essences of being together with the Anglo?
One of the greatest author in the Anglo-America is who we all know, William Shakespeare. With his one of the famous works “Romeo and Juliet” we can mirror the traditional style of Anglo-America literature that somewhat related to their culture, as well. Here’s some excerpt from the classic story “Romeo and Juliet”.
”’Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What’s Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O! be some other name:
]What’s in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call’d,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff
 thy name;
And for that name, which is no part of thee,
Take all myself”
On the other hand, European literature includes writing for some dialects; among the most significant of the cutting edge composed works are those in English, Spanish, French, Dutch, Polish, German, Italian, Modern Greek, Czech and Russian and works by the Scandinavians and Irish. Significant old style and archaic customs are those in Ancient Greek, Latin, Old Norse, Medieval French and the Italian Tuscan tongue of the renaissance. Moreover, the literature was written with regards to Western culture in the dialects of Europe, as a few topographically or verifiably related dialects. Various as they seem to be, European literature, as Indo-European dialects, are portions of a typical legacy having a place with a race of pleased countries which brag any semblance of Homer who composed Iliad and Odyssey, Virgil who composed the Aeneid, Dante who composed Divine Comedy, Chaucer who composed Canterbury Tales. These, and other abstract works of art structure part of what we call as Western Canon.
Tumblr media
 5.       African Literature
The Africa consists of 54 countries in total, however, the African literature has a unique theme and styles. Their literature often to be relevant to its colonial background, and also connected to their traditions and culture, which makes their literature more unique. In addition, their literatures are often known as subversive and expressive contents.
Moreover, oral and composed narrating conventions have had an equal turn of events, and from multiple points of view they have affected one another. Old Egyptian recorders, early Hausa and Swahili copyists and memorizers, and contemporary scholars of famous novellas have been the conspicuous and essential momentary figures in the development from oral to abstract customs. What occurred among the Hausa and Swahili was happening somewhere else in Africa—among the Fulani, in northern Ghana among the Guang, in Senegal among the Tukulor and Wolof, and in Madagascar and Somalia.
One of the most famous African novel is entitled “Things Fall Apart” written by Chinua Achebe, Things Fall Apart exhaustively envisions how the Nigerian Igbo people group worked preceding expansionism. The divisions in this network go with the deplorable fall of the legend, Okonkwo, whose chivalrous however careless remain against expansionism closes in a forlorn self-destruction. Achebe's astuteness is adequate to move perusers past recriminations or authentic fault, since the Igbo people group adjusts to oblige Christianity and new types of pioneer administration. Similarly as the novel's title cites Yeats' sonnet The Second Coming, Achebe's African way of thinking of equilibrium in everything runs after a millennial association with Western innovation. Here’s some excerpt from the novel “Things Fall Apart”
“The drums beat and the flutes sang and the spectators held their breath. Amalinze was a wily craftsman, but Okonkwo was as slippery as a fish in water. Every nerve and every muscle stood out on their arms, on their backs and their thighs, and one almost heard them stretching to breaking point. In the end, Okonkwo threw the Cat”
Tumblr media
6.       Latin American Literature
The Latin America is generally consists of all the countries in South America, in addition to Mexico, Central America, and the Islands of the Caribbean, indeed, there’s also a lot of country in the Latin America region. The Latin American mostly adapted their literature from the Aztecs and Mayans, two of the great ancient civilizations of our world, also, the themes of their literature are usually characterized by mysticism, magic, uniqueness, raw creativity, and wonder. Them, too give way and introduced “magical realism”.
Magical realism is a classification of writing that portrays this present reality as having a propensity of sorcery or dream. Mystical authenticity is a piece of the authenticity classification of fiction. Inside a work of supernatural authenticity, the world is as yet grounded in reality, however fantastical components are viewed as ordinary in this world. It is different from what we know “fantasy”.
One example of a magical realism novel is ”House of Spirits(La casa de los Espíritus)” written by Isabel Allende. The novel was published in 1982, Isabel Allende's presentation novel narratives the violent political occasions of post provincial Chile, through the lives of four ages of the rich Trueba family. The extraordinary is available from the start, with Allende portraying the supernatural capacities of one of the novel's principle heroes, Clara. Expect ghosts blended into the consistently, time shifts in the story and signs being figured it out. A genuine show-stopper, of the sorcery authenticity classification, yet additionally of women's activist and Chilean writing. Here’s some excerpt from the novel ”House of Spirits(La casa de los Espíritus)”
“That was Marcos’s longest trip. He returned with a shipment of enormous boxes that were piled in the far courtyard, between the chicken coop and the woodshed, until the winter was over. At the first signs of spring he had them transferred to the parade grounds, a huge park where people would gather to watch the soldiers file by on Independence Day, with the goosestep they had learned from the Prussians. When the crates were opened, they were found to contain loose bits of wood, metal, and painted cloth. Marcos spent two weeks assembling the contents according to an instruction manual written in English, which he was able to decipher thanks to his invincible imagination and a small dictionary. When the job was finished, it turned out to be a bird of prehistoric dimensions, with the face of a furious eagle, wings that moved, and a propeller on its back.”
With all of that, it may be seem that different regions from the world has their very own unique way in terms of literature, all of the literature around the world is really fascinating and amazing. Now that I’ve shown you the different dominant themes and styles of literature from Southeast Asia, East Asia, South and West Asia, Anglo-America and Europe, Africa, and Latin America. I hope that you’ve  learned something new and surprising thing about the different themes and styles from around the world!
