since im so normal about it i whipped out a poster for the swap au and gave it a name - turnabout au!

in which kids and trolls switch sessions, ie. alpha kids play the sburb first, beta kids enter the void sessions, beta trolls are now dancestors to alpha trolls etc etc

do you have any thoughts on dirk and roxy's friendship? personally i think they were codependent sad teenagers :(

Oh boy do i have them. I feel like a lot of of the alphas friendships within their friendgroup will always have disconnect (again, due to that void among other attachment issues the alpha kids struggle with in consequence of being isolated teens for a LONG time); and Roxy and Dirks is one that always makes me side eye, because I feel it would face the same issue that Jane and Jakes friendship does where there is guilt for what one of them put the other through.

Especially in the case of Roxy and Dirks, where it’s stated Roxy would constantly flirt rather drunkenly with Dirk Strider, even if she was aware he wasn’t straight. It’s a mess of crossed boundaries that comes from dependence on what you believe is the only other living person in the world, and it’s guilt on Dirks part that he can’t live up to that even though he wishes he could’ve been that for Roxy. He tried his damn hardest as a kid to support his friend with a debilitating alchoholic addiction for their early years, and I think he deserves credit for that. Dirk tries to be reasonable with Roxy when Roxy can’t, which leads to.. situations.

Not to mention how cruelly she reacts when Dirk shuts her down. Big yikes.

But at the end of the day, while not exactly great, their relationship is fairly standard and realistic which is something I’m fond of with the alpha kids and how they perfectly portray that relationships are multifaceted and complex and yes, shit like this can happen. Roxy is someone Dirk respects and Dirk is one Roxy eventually feels eventual guilt for her actions over, which i think is great overall.

I just really think codependent alchoholic teen and a teen trying to be “all that” supporting her did a number on their friendship that neither will forget and I’m unsure if Dirk will necessarily forgive but they could move past it. 👍

they had a great relationship that turned kinda sour due to dave not being around much, which made dirk v upset at him bc the kid was lonely af in the apartment. when it comes to the rooftop kind of talk there are two other characters that'll get it wonk wonk

Dirk I, he is a similar case than Dave where I just don't care that much about him? Like he is there and yeah

He is interesting but I just don't find the appeal

And Jake is also another can of worms for me, I don't understand like 70% of his dialogue so I can't even understand what's going on with him a lot of the times, he is like an enigma for me and for the fandom tho what was even Hussie thinking when he wrote him

So yeah, I like them and they're interesting and funny to watch their drama lol
