Spoilers ahead for Sunrise on the Reaping but I'm re-reading the original trilogy (plus re-read Ballad) for re-contextualized clues now that we know more about the world thanks to Haymitch.
There's been arguments going on for why Haymitch and others didn't tell Katniss earlier about the rebellion and how she was practically hand picked for the symbol...y'all when she was going into the Games she was only enthusiastically showing up to the meals. Everything else it was a nightmare to get her to show up to.
The entire prep team had to threaten her several times to get her to be even remotely pleasant to anyone because she was so deeply entrenched in survival mode and anger. Haymitch made a rebellion comment and she thought he was stupid for it. There is no chance the rebels wanted Katniss as their symbol.
There's a crack theory running around that Thresh may have been the one picked to try and break the Arena/rebel against the Games for the 74th Games and I honestly think that theory holds the most weight. Katniss was their accidental symbol. I think Thresh was the plan. If Peeta had more of a will to live, he would have been Plan B.
I do think they tried with at least one tribute every Games to break the arena and kickstart the rebellion. And I think there's a good chance the notoriously "unsuccessful" Games (like the ice arena) were either the Capitol going too far and punishing previous attempts or there was so much going on in the arena they couldn't show anything interesting or it would let the Districts know active rebellion was happening.
And that's why Katniss worked, because she was an organic choice for the rebellion. People will unhappily back a port in the storm during times of unrest but they can tell if it's manufactured and they don't like it. Katniss was, through no effort of her own, a perfect storm of circumstances and just the right amount of angry charisma and got put in the middle of a 74 year long rebellion.
The rebellion was able to use her...kind of...because they had been trying so long they had things in place for when a symbol finally landed and people finally rose up. But Katniss was never the plan and she's uncontrollable enough she would have never been the plan. But people connected with Katniss because she was uncontrollable and unpolished. People respond to authenticity, especially when they've grown up in a world of nothing but propaganda.

they say that there's a point where you can have too much security and it impedes the usability of a system—however i'd like to commend online banking platforms for somehow simultaneously having security measures that make them incredibly inconvenient to use every day, whilst also offering fairly low actual security and being not particularly difficult to bypass if you're dedicated enough

Michael Esposito Staten Island - The Impact and Future of Influencer Marketing
In today’s digital age, influencer marketing has emerged as a powerful tool for brands to connect with their target audience in authentic and meaningful ways. With social media platforms dominating online interactions, influencers wield significant influence over consumer behaviors and purchasing decisions. A recognized authority in the field, Michael Esposito Staten Island, shares 10 essential strategies for effective influencer marketing. As we delve into the impact and future of influencer marketing, it becomes evident that this dynamic landscape is continuously evolving, presenting both challenges and opportunities for brands and influencers alike.
Tumblr media
The Impact of Influencer Marketing
The impact of influencer marketing cannot be overstated. Research shows that consumers trust recommendations from influencers almost as much as they trust recommendations from friends and family. In fact, a recent survey found that 87% of consumers have made a purchase based on an influencer’s recommendation. This highlights the immense power that influencers hold in shaping consumer perceptions and driving purchasing decisions.
Moreover, influencer marketing offers a level of authenticity and reliability that traditional advertising often lacks. By partnering with influencers who align with their brand values, companies can create genuine connections with their target audience, fostering trust and loyalty in the process. This authenticity is particularly appealing to millennial and Gen Z consumers, who value transparency and authenticity from the brands they support.
Furthermore, influencer marketing allows brands to reach highly targeted audiences with precision. With the ability to segment audiences based on demographics, interests, and behaviors, brands can ensure that their message resonates with the right people at the right time. This targeted approach not only maximizes the effectiveness of marketing campaigns but also helps brands optimize their return on investment. Michael Esposito Staten Island, shares insights into unlocking the secrets of a master of influencer marketing, emphasizing the importance of precision targeting and strategic messaging in driving successful campaigns.
The Future of Influencer Marketing
Looking ahead, the future of influencer marketing is promising yet challenging. As the industry continues to mature, brands and influencers must adapt to changing consumer preferences and technological advancements to stay relevant. Here are some key trends shaping the future of influencer marketing:
1. Micro-Influencers: While mega influencers have traditionally dominated the influencer landscape, there is a growing shift towards micro-influencers – individuals with smaller but highly engaged audiences. Micro-influencers often have niche expertise and a more intimate connection with their followers, making them valuable partners for brands looking to target specific demographics.
2. Authenticity and Transparency: As influencer marketing becomes more mainstream, consumers are becoming increasingly savvy and discerning. Authenticity and transparency will be paramount, with consumers expecting genuine recommendations and honest disclosures from influencers and brands alike.
3. Long-Term Partnerships: Rather than one-off sponsorships, brands are increasingly investing in long-term partnerships with influencers. This allows for deeper collaborations and more authentic storytelling, resulting in greater brand affinity and loyalty among consumers.
4. Emerging Platforms: While platforms like Instagram and YouTube have long been the primary channels for influencer marketing, emerging platforms such as TikTok and Clubhouse are gaining traction. Brands will need to stay agile and adapt their strategies to leverage the unique features of these platforms and reach new audiences effectively.
5. Data-Driven Strategies: With advancements in data analytics and AI, influencer marketing will become more data-driven than ever before. Brands will rely on sophisticated analytics tools to measure the effectiveness of their campaigns, identify trends, and optimize their strategies for maximum impact.
In conclusion, influencer marketing has transformed the way brands engage with consumers, offering unprecedented opportunities for connection and engagement. However, as the industry continues to evolve, brands and influencers must remain agile and adaptive to navigate the ever-changing landscape successfully. By embracing authenticity, leveraging emerging platforms, and investing in data-driven strategies, brands can harness the full potential of influencer marketing to drive growth and cultivate lasting relationships with their audience.

Enough time has finally passed since its release for me to lose my ardor against it, and I finally started watching One Piece Netflix. The bonkers thing I realized is that this show is right up Tumblr's alley. It's camp, it's very gender, it's asexual, it's diverse, it's a satisfying watch. But I haven't heard a thing about it in my general Tumblr radius. I suspect that it's due to the same reason I avoided it, which was the completely over-the-top marketing campaign they did on Tumblr, at Tumblr users. It put such an incredibly bad taste in my mouth that I haven't even tried looking at the show even after coworkers recommended it to me. I can't be the only one. Seems like an expensive marketing mistake!

Social media infrastructure and marketers nudged into ✨soul searching✨
Why? Metrics.
It’s refreshing to see self-aware generations actively resisting commodified influence and performative authenticity.
Some personal reflections on missed opportunities and omitted insights to ‘marketers’ and digital citizens, within the United State’s increasingly edgy ‘casino of attention and consumerism’:
Missed opportunity: An international sample size or focus group - with outcomes broken out by region (are these sentiments universal, or driven by regional governance and culture? How does this impact the market for digital ad inventory?)
Omitted insight: Satisfaction with pre-existing IRL communities (is social media a substitute, complement, or a private escape? Are public spaces lacking, such that digital campuses become imperative? Is experiential marketing the new norm, similar to Red Bull, and other brand subsidized activities which hope to convert new consumers in-person rather than via device?)
Omitted insight: How could marketing regulation improve digital social spaces, without sending platforms into cyclical churn (of fledgling authenticity and value, then exploitation and decay)?
Overall, it’s a great report.
But seeing more ‘authenticity’ from conglomerates like ‘Walmart’ (or a ‘Chevron’, ‘Shein’, ‘Coca Cola’, ‘McDonalds’, etc) is out of touch with the deeper sentiment for inside-out principled capitalism. How will social media platforms protect their user base and provide community value, without resorting to the dollars of cynical marketing funnels?
Therein lies the societal restructure, which a cross-regional examination could illustrate.
Privately, I advocate for platforms to operate as non-profit fiduciaries - publicly and privately funded. A step further to a taxpayer funded, operated, and regulated utility or NGO social platform (United Nations Social Media?) seems logical yet burdensome. Understandably, while a nationally competitive healthcare insurer is popular (Americans love Medicare), a public option for social media might terrify enthusiastic privacy and tax efficiency advocates. Thus we remain in corporate gridlock - relying on investor funded social media, beholden to dividends and stock appreciation.
The FCC and FTC have a lot of catching up to do.
Side note: Thank you for your service, Lina Khan!
Tumblr media
This is interesting 🤔
*Record scratch* *Freeze frame* Yep, that’s us. You’re probably wondering how we got here.
The internet is changing, and with it, social media. We partnered with Archrival who asked Gen Z (aka, you) and Millennial folks (also you) what’s important to you in online communities. Some interesting trends emerged from those conversations, and we thought you might like to take a look and see what tracks for you.
The Trends:
Broken Social Scenes. Too much content, too little organic connection. You want something deeper.
Network Effect. You’re creating new networks that nurture belonging through intimacy, exclusivity, and IRL meet-ups. (Communities, anyone?)
The New Rules of Influence. Connections, not followers. Influencers that build trust and real engagement matter more to you than big numbers.
Community, According to you. Community building must be holistic. Social media must be social. Community is not a marketing strategy.
Interested? Read the full report here.
