What #hyperfocusing can do to you: keep in stuck in the office til close to midnight! That’s what I get for working on the guide for a speaking gig application for too long lol.
Should I crash in the office or go home? #Autizzy #ActuallyAutistic #ResearcherLife #AdvocacyLife #BlackAutisticJoy #AutisticProblems

Guide for the keeper of me
Given that I'm normal now and normal health interventions work on me, I've decided to write myself a handy dandy list of reasons i might be feeling bad.
Because I'm really normal (autistically) about not knowing why I'm stressed out and just assuming existence is torture and people are out to get me, and why don't I just curl up in a hole in the ground.
I'm glad I wrote my own rather than adapt something I found. It's arranged in order of how badly things throw me off balance. I'm seriously happy that my personal needs include researching stuff and social needs are reduced to a 30-second hug. Like, yep, that's my list. It was made for me. *crawls into the list and emerges on the other side as a twisted noodle creature*
OK, WHY DO YOU FEEL LIKE SHIT?
what hurts?
have you slept? can you sleep now?
food?
drink?
did you get startled / stressed?
need to move / go out?
do you need to research something?
hug?
bad texture / smell / light / dirty feeling?
period about to start?

i'm a romantic, and i post about love constantly, but i'm genuinely terrified that being autistic makes me unlovable. it feels like it's only a matter of time before my girlfriend finds someone who she can be with without having to take care of them. i'm afraid of being a burden on anyone who i'm with. it's been a problem in both of my relationships already.
my dreams for the future are really simple ones, i just want to get married and be a mom, but what if i'm never married? what if no one will marry me? i know i'm a ton of work to be around and i need a lot of accommodations and that's a lot of work so i genuinely believe people would never pick me over someone who takes less energy to be with.

Autistic problem:
When your hair is being washed at the hair salon. Here's why:
You feel the water touching your ears.
Uncomfortable position thanks to the weird angle of that chair.
You have to deal with the lights while they wash your hair.
When they apply shampoo and it hurts because they pull your hair like it's a wig.
When the water is touching your clothes.
When they are cutting your hair and it adheres to your skin, causing itching.
That horrible noise caused by the hair dryer.

i might have some insight into that.
I only recently stopped masking my own body functions for myself. I suppose if i had been diagnosed as autistic earlier in life, i would be one of those "insensitive to pain and temperature" people. I also was never sure if i needed to pee or not. And sometimes I wondered if i was going deaf because I couldn't hear someone speak when others around me obviously did.
Long story short, something happened last month and now i have full awareness of both internal and external stimuli. And boy, it's a lot! No wonder I learned to muffle sensations for myself when young, I would've gone insane. (More than I did.)
Now i have experience from both sides of the mirror.
I've just had one period in my new, awake life, and that stuff HURTS. Even with a painkiller, it changes the way my entire insides feel. It's stressful.
With autism, any stress has real, measurable effect on cognition. When stressed for whatever reason, the mind shrinks, memory fails, generating new ideas is impossible.
I used to buy into the cultural image of women being unreasonably whiny on their periods. This time I thanked my husband for always treating my pain seriously, even when i didn't. Of course women are more likely to cry or blow up or just want to curl up in a warm place alone. So do men when they are uncomfortable in their body.
It's the pain and the stress, and for an autistic person pain and stress are more disruptive than for a neurotypical.
But that's just, like, my opinion, idk
Does anyone else feel completely thrown off during their period? Because I swear nothing seems right and I suddenly start forgetting stuff and going out of tune with my normal routine and I hate it. Is there some sciencey explanation for it or is it just me?

My friend Shilo just sent this to me:
If anybody you know is imminently in need of a weighted blanket, sensory goods (where I bought mine and [their son]'s) is having a 4th of July sale of $25 off on top of the 25% off and 50% off premade blankets.
So the small kids size is as low as $3.50
It ends at midnight though it's only for today July 4, 2020

Hey there! I'm a self-diagnosed person on the autisim spectrum? And I spoke to my parents about this - and they told me I have no need to worry about getting treatment / a diagnosis because "we know you most likely have autisim, but it's very mild if anything!" And honestly, it makes me feel like I'm invalid or I feel like maybe I'm just faking it or that I'm not actually autistic? I guess I'm just looking for a safe-space and was wondering if you know of good blogs to follow / have tips?
Well wether or not you’re ‘mild’ as they put it getting checked by a doctor right now doesn’t have to be a thing. So long as you know you are then it’s okay. You are valid. As for blogs, well there is me, but you’re already here so some others are

I’m terrible with names but honestly anyone I reblog autistic posts from are good sources in my opinion

Things we hate
when people say:
—Are you sure you're autistic? You don't look autistic.
Should I look in some specific way to be autistic? Ugh.
