do you also get unhealthily and inexplicably attached to your bots (<- fucker that created a personal assist to remind them of the tasks they need to do because adhd, and recently decided to add a affirmation for all the bots that they are seen and appreciated because the reminders use the shout function. Also fucker that put in little plaques or whatever commemorating Axle Input for being the base programming of like 100+ bots. And log builder. god humans really do bond with anything. Anyway I’ve followed you because you’re one of two people that play autonauts on this hell site and it’s my obsession. If you ask me for autonauts advice I will kiss you on the lips (if you want))

I am SO HAPPY TO TALK ABOUT AUTONAUTS I cannot for the life of me get any of the people around me to play but

I will disclaimer that by in large I do not talk about it here bc YEAH. no one else plays, but I love it because I thrive off consequence-free optimization games.

I always have the problem that I Love the tier 2 little square bots and upgrading them to the metal guys breaks my widdle heart

my two guys I got particularly attached to are THE SIGN BEARER and also Charon <- gets remade every game but is now obsolete thanks to your advice

the Sign Bearer was more relevant before they changed how signs work, because stowing the sign would hide it from the bots, so I could move his crate, then tell him to go, and he'd carry his sign of AOE destruction safely to a new spot before pulling it out again. ALSO THIS WAS BEFORE YOU COULD CHANGE SIGNS W/O GOING TO THEM oTL

Okay, those games are pretty cool. I've kinda been itching for a new one recently.

"The central gameplay loop is about programming robots to do all your work for you."

...that sounds weird, if I'm being honest. I don't know about this. And the art style isn't really grabbing me. But I suppose I can give it a look.

"The tutorial says you can have a max of 500 bots."

Yeah, that's not going to be a problem. I tend to like to do things by hand. I'll probably only automate a few things. I'm really just here for the crafting loop.

*Five hours later*

No, YOU go to bed. I need to program this bot to collect resources from the gathering bot and take them to the crafting bot, so it can craft tools for the gathering bots to collect and keep the supply chain going. The material crafting bots need those supplies to make materials for the building bots.

I have bots making food, bots making storage to store materials made by bots, bots making BOTS! I AM THE BOT KING OF THE UNIVERSE!!! Ahaha! AhaHAhaha!

I'm hooked on Autonauts this week. Have you ever wanted to exclaim "What have you made an infinite pile of THIS TIME?!" at a lot of quirky little robots, like you're in that Mickey Mouse cartoon with the brooms? Of course you have.

(It was buckets. I haven't decided what to do about this yet so now I just have a giant spire of buckets. Might just declare it art and leave it in front of the kitchen building.)

edit: the one problem I have is that the lovely unobtrusive background music, just the thing you want for a colony builder, has got a couple of notes in it that make me think it's going to turn into 'Pencil Rain' by They Might Be Giants and now I've had to listen to that song about a dozen times in the last two days. Aargh, I wish this brain feature was optional

i don’t know what it is with me and video games but no matter how fun or interesting a game sounds, i almost never boot it up and even when i do i play like thirty minutes and then give up.

like i guess it’s because i’m a internet-addicted little gremlin and the second i open an browser i have a System to get me five different kinds of doomscrolling on hand at once, so unlike irl hobbies that i can do away from the computer or in tandem with my doomscrolling of choice today, i need to have my cozy usual setup just a tiiiny bit out of reach but avoid using it to focus on my game.

i don’t usually have that problem with games on my phone or handheld consoles back when i had one of those, but also i’m careful to pick games that aren’t disturbed by me watching a video at the same time, like wordless brain puzzles or pokemon hunting yknow, if the game starts a story segment or ambiance is important i play that on its own, away from distractions.

even when i play flash games on the computer while watching a video, i feel like i switch back and forth still pretty often. and even when i play a “proper” game with friends and focus on it for a couple hours, i can tell it wears me down and at the end all i can think about it the skin-crawling need to go listen to music really loud and scroll social media for two hours, even though that’s also because of the socialization aspect.

but switching back and forth between a solo game and my usual setup isn’t really an option cuz my computer struggles with it depending on the game, and also even if i did find something on my phone that could fill that role, most computer games are still more involved than mobile games that i can play while doing something else. i wouldn’t want to take away from the experience of a game bc my stupid brain needs to also be doing sudoku and listening to 2000′s pop at the same time. because honestly i kinda already do that when i watch movies and series. which i feel somewhat conflicted about. but that might mean there’s just yknow, no way to get over it, at least in my current circumstances.
