Tagged by the incredible @chateauofmymind to share 10 songs I've had on repeat! I put the genres in parentheses in case anyone is looking for recs lol
1. Benjamin Biolay - La chambre d'amis (french pop/singer songwriter)
DANS LA CHAMBRE D'AMI JE SUIS CET ENNEMI/QUI DORT AU PURGATOIRE À GAUCHE DU COULOIR/DANS LA CHAMBRE D'AMI, DE THÈSE EN THÉORIE/JE SAIS QUE J'AI TOUT FAUX, JE M'ENDORS SUR LE DOS... Also I'm bad at french so when he mentions films forbidden to under 18s (dans la chambre) I thought he meant forbidden films of under 18s and I was like wow that escalated
2. FKA twigs - Eusexua (art pop? idk)
I'm still here. "I WAS ON THE EDGE OF SOMETHING GREATER THAN BEFORE/BUT NOBODY TOLD ME" sooo true oomfie
3. Pavement - Range Life (indie rock)
Song of the summer!
4. Roy Orbison - In Dreams (traditional 50s style pop idk what to call it... technically it's from the 60s but culturally it is the 50s. You understand.)
Started listening to this a lot when David Lynch died and I haven't stopped bc it's sooooooo good
5. Sonic Youth - Madonna, Sean, and Me (noise rock)
California anthem...
6. Future - March Madness (trap)
For some reason this took longer to get rly into than some Future hits, which is cool bc now I get to be obsessed w it ❤️
7. LCD Soundsystem - I Can Change (indietronica? dad indie?)
"LOVE IS AN OPEN BOOK TO A VERSE OF YOUR BAD POETRY/AND THIS IS COMING FROM ME!" Real and true...
8. Lucy Liyou - 16/8 (ambient r&b... idk if that's a genre but now it is)
Really I'm obsessed w this whole album so it's hard to pick a single track, but this might be my fave
9. Dean Blunt - SKETAMINE (art pop I GUESS but such an atmospheric London feel to it... you are walking alone at night Burial type vibe)
Dean Blunt is one of those musicians who I should've gotten into years ago but am just getting into now. This album is incredible so idk what took me so long
10. Nazar - DMZ (minimalist 'tronics)
So atmospheric and gorgeous 🥰
I'm tagging @divorceblogger @mstepenwolf @rosebriding @deathlonging @tigersbride @byronicgf and of course anyone else who wants to! You can say I tagged you if you're shy :)

music meme
@anghraine tagged me to list five songs on regular play and tag ten of my followers!
This was slightly difficult since a) I don't use spotify and b) I tend to play albums on repeat instead of songs, but here's some of the music I've been listening to a lot lately:
Right Back to It, Waxahatchee
Texas Sun, Khruangbin w/Leon Bridges
Coast, Gone Gone Beyond & Moontricks
This Life, Vampire Weekend
I Can Change, LCD Soundsystem
No-pressure tagging: @bulllla @merimari @ladytharen @oh-nostalgiaa @youareiron-andyouarestrong @toooldforthisbutstill @luciechat @thworrrp @siachti and @glorious-spoon

A Color LCD (part 1)
Many years ago, I pulled an LCD out of a GPS unit from the days before cars and smartphones having navigation features. This LCD is a color LCD with a backlight. It’s a very different technology, and much more challenging to interface to. I can’t even find a proper datasheet for the module.

There are datasheets available for modules with similar part numbers. Based on the circuitry in the above picture, this looks like the closest pinout:
B&W LCD modules usually have a built-in charge pump to generate their needed voltages. Unfortunately, the datasheet also says this module needs those voltages supplied externally, and they’re a bit weird.
VDH: +8.3–+8.7 V @ 3.3 mA
VGH: +16.2–+17.0 V @ 0.23 mA
VGL: −8.35–−8.0 V @ 0.17 mA
VCC: +2.5–+3.3 V @ 0.22 mA (this is actually a normal voltage)
Fortunately, I don’t have to design and build a boost circuit myself; you can Just Buy voltage boost modules easily from many places. Getting a module to generate that negative voltage, however, is a lot harder. But it turns out that charge pump chips are A Thing you can Just Buy on Digikey. Sadly, charge pump chips tend to have fairly low output current capability, so while charge pumps could produce the high voltage for the backlight, it would require several and be kind of awkward.
So last week and this week, I finally sat down and learned enough about PIO on the Pi Pico to produce suitable timing signals for the module.
Great! I have a power circuit, I have logic signals, I have a suitable connector, now to see if I can display a picture. Well, one problem: I haven’t built something to hold the LCD. I don’t have a 3D printer, nor any CAD skills, so tonight’s project is to design in Adobe Illustrator a case for the module made of cardstock.

Conclusion : autonomie, liberté, confort

what if for powder-ti you just stored everything in the framebuffer? i'm unfamiliar with the CE and i come at it from an assembly on TI-83/84 b+w perspective, but doesn't the lcd chip still need to be fed each pixel over a port? (i.e. it's not memory mapped, unlike the TI-89[citation needed]). (of course this would give up on stacked elements like are possible in TPT) in that case, you could scan through the entire screen and do physics and calculate the colors on the fly as you send the new frame. if you can double buffer it, even better (so you can avoid double updating any pixels that move along the raster line). is the full screen write time too slow? (i know the b+w lcd chip needs wait cycles between bytes, so some display routines only send the pixels that differ to avoid having to delay as much) from what i remember the CE's ez80 is pipelined 40MHz and the resolution is like 300x240 or something? so you'd have a little over 9 opcodes per sand to achieve 60 fps. oh. i see now. but still, 30 fps at half the linear resolution would get you 74 clocks per pixel average which is enough that you can actually almost do something. if i had to do it on the black and white ti84 i'd have only like max 4 elements and use a bit plane for each one and try to do as much as the update logic as possible with bitwise operations (and perhaps a few 256 byte luts) so that i can update 8 pixels at once. it'd still probably be slow though but one might be able to do deterministic water, sand, smoke, and metl + spark (or wwld) at 30 fps (almost 700 t-states per byte)
also, if you're targeting the newer ones that have circuitpython, you might be able to pull some shenanigans with the circuitpy coprocessor (which i think is an arm cortex m0, but, unlike stm32 micropython, circuitpython probably doesn't have a way to execute inline assembly)
ima go look at your structs now (also lmk if this unsolicited advice is undesired)
Thanks a ton! Any help is appreciated.
Honestly it's been a long while since I worked on the project, but I initially wrote it in C, which probably didn't really help in the performance department. I at some point tried making an assembly version, but gave up pretty early... I think I should re-explore that. I experimented with many different pipelines, some performing physics over a linked list, then rendering the grid separately, and another with calculating the position and rendering each grain on the same iteration. It ultimately came down to as you guessed simply being too many too expensive operations happen too often so it didn't work. But I'd bet I'd have a better shot if the crux of it was coded in ASM. Also, I'm not sure how data is fed to the LCD, I just kind of used the function calls that the ce toolchain provided, but I could look into lower-level syscalls to for even greater efficiency.
As for circuitpy, I'm not really sure how to interface with the processor, and even if I could, I'm not sure how fast I could pull data from it, last I heard it was throttled down to make up for the main processor's speed, but who knows. If you could send some pointers my way, it'd be much appreciated!
Once again, thanks for your help and shown interest :)

a - ftp command ftp connects to a remove server using FTP protocol After the connection the FTP interface is initiated. The interface has commands that you can use to manage or transfer files to the remote system ftp 52.175.95.215 → connects to remote server if it does not have an anonymous login, then it will ask for name and password help → will display all supported commands exit → logs off the remote server common commands: cd, cdup, delete, idle, image, lcd mdir, mget, put b - ftp examples get filename /local/path/to/save/file → downloads a file put /local/path/to/save/file filename → uploads a file delete filename → deletes a files mdelete file1 file2 file3 → deletes multiple files mkdir directoryName → creates a directory mget file1 file2 file3 → downloads multiple files mput file1 file2 files → uploads multiple files rename old new → renames a file c - wget command wget is used to download files from a server It supports FTP, HTTP and HTTPS protocols wget 'http://example.com/file' → downloads a file you can change the name by adding -O localfile1.txt wget -c 'http://example.com/file' → resumes to download a file if it failed wget --http-user=username --http-password=password http://example.com/file.txt → provides authentication credentials common options: -b → downloads in the background -r → recursive -i filename → reads urls from file -w 5 → waits for 5 secs between downloads
