Imbolc - Spring's Beginning
Tumblr media
Originating from Gaelic tradition, this sabbat recognizes winter's gradual decay into spring. Snow melts, days begin to get longer, and plants spring up from the fresh soil. Animals become more active and the world begins to brighten. As a whole, Imbolc signifies a time for rebirth, rejuvenation, and new growth.
•───────•°•❀•°•───────•
This is the first festival of the Wheel of the Year, and marks the midpoint between the Winter Solstice (Yule) and the Spring Equinox (Ostara). It is held on February 01 each year. It is a powerful time for a witch to get in tune with the Earth and its natural cycles, and to align oneself with nature's processes.
Witchy practices for Imbolc:
show gratitude for the Earth, for nature, and for the coming of spring
plant seeds for your indoor or outdoor garden
care for and fertilize your plants
eat mindfully and thankfully
clean your home, both physically and spiritually (spring cleaning & cleansing)
make concrete, actionable plans to reach your goals
reaffirm love to loved ones, friends, companion animals
create blessed/holy water, and use it to bless one's home and loved ones
Brigid
Although I am an agnostic witch, Imbolc is closely associated with the deity Brigid (or St. Brigid). Brigid watches over and protects Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man, and as such many witches, pagans, and even Christians feast or celebrate Imbolc as a method of worship and reverence.
The Brigid's Cross is a decoration woven traditionally from corn reeds and hung over doors and windows to protect from negative entities and unwanted spirits.

Despite the alcohol fogging your mind, you were still able to comprehend the fact that you fucked up. You were unsure if it was cool crisp air or the look on Jean’s face that made you sober up. He was pissed.
“What the actual fuck was that?”
You shuffle, staring down at your glittery painted toes that peeked out from your heels. You’d wanted his attention all night and now that you had it, it made you nervous.
“I wanted you to pay attention to me,” you whine, “You said you were over Mikasa, but I found that really fucking hard to believe.”
He gives you an incredulous look, “So going and dancing with Eren, practically grinding on his fucking micropenis of a dick is your way of making a statement?”
You pout, reaching up to cup his face, “I was jealous, don’t be mad daddy.”
He punches the wall behind, caging you in between his arms. You knew better than to go and dance with Eren. The two of them weren’t exactly on the greatest terms. He exhaled a shaky breath before giving you a dark look, “Get on your fucking knees.”
You immediately follow his command, dropping down, the caps of your knees hitting the dirty concrete. This is what you wanted.
Pulling out his cock from his pants, he shoves it into your unsuspecting mouth. Tears well in your eyes, as it hits the back of your throat, completely blocking out your airway. Fisting handfuls of your hair, he keeps it there, until your face is left red and sweaty, before pulling back, leaving you gasping for air. It isn’t long before he thrusts it back in, fucking your face at a heated pace.
Drool begins to pool out of the corners of your mouth, seeping to the front of your skin tight dress. He chuckles dryly, before bending down to pull the front down, making your tits pop out. He takes in your appearance, pleased that you weren’t wearing a bra.
“You’re such a fucking slut,” he belittles, giving your breast a quick slap. The sting makes you mewl, shooting vibrations up his length. You feel him shiver, quickening his pace.
“I bet you think you’re real cute letting him put his hands all over you. We’ll see how cute you look later when I get you home.”
The suggestion makes your insides clench, juices pooling in your panties. The thought alone excited you but the both of you knew that no one but Jean was allowed to fuck you.
“Ah,” he hisses, before slipping out of your mouth. Pumping his cock vigorously, he shoots his load, decorating your pretty face with his cum.
“Maybe I should leave you like this,” he chuckles darkly, “that way anyone who wanted to use you could have a go with you. Would you like that?”

I’m submitting this to @choicesseasonalprompts for the song that is this fics title. I’m tagging my perma tag and LH tag, if you want to be added/removed/moved to a specific book (TRR, BB, PM, BSC, TE, ILB or LH) or pairing, you need only ask. (I won’t be offended) If you enjoy this, please like, comment or reblog, I appreciate every single note! Also, my Masterlist link can be found on my bio because tumblr is a butt. Word Count- 1479
Tumblr media
On her way to meet Mark to paint the living room and entrance hall of the old Victorian they bought eight months ago, Dani listens to Christmas carols on the radio as she sits at a red light, drumming her fingers on top of the steering wheel and chewing on her lower lip. All she wanted to do was celebrate their first Christmas as home owners in their new home, but they hadn’t even been able to move in yet. Christmas was a week away, clearly that wasn’t going to happen.
When they bought the place thirty minutes outside the city, they knew it needed work, but they had no idea how many issues would surface once they started renovating. The foundation was solid thank God, because the previous owners changed it from brick to concrete years prior and they had replaced all of the lead plumbing. The problem was, they changed it sixty years ago to galvanized pipes that had already begun to deteriorate, and Mark and Dani had to redo it all again with copper. It already had a modern furnace and central air, but the unit didn’t heat or cool the upper levels and they had to replace it with a split unit instead. The inspector said the roof needed to be redone within the next few years, but one heavy rainfall told them it couldn’t wait. Unless they also wanted to replace all the ceilings and walls on the top floor too. The electrical had to be updated and replaced, including all the outlets. Sections of siding were rotted as were some of the window sills. The gorgeous staircase was painted bright ass blue of all things, and when Dani finally soaked and scraped and sanded it all off, it uncovered warped and damaged wood. The entire thing had to be rebuilt. Too bad they didn’t know that before she spent so many hours on the damn thing. It was issue after issue, expense after expense and that didn’t include any of the cosmetic things that needed to be done as well.
The kitchen and bathrooms were outdated but functional and would have to wait. All of the wood trim was now ripped down but they really weren’t looking forward to replacing it considering some of the walls were no longer straight and the corners weren’t exactly at ninety degrees. They couldn’t do that until they were done painting and they couldn’t paint until all of the garish wallpaper was removed. Dani had been working on the thick gold wallpaper that covered the living room the last time she was there but when she started brandishing a hammer, Mark grabbed it out of her hand and told her she wasn’t allowed to come back for three days. She listened. Mostly because if she hadn’t, her other idea was a flamethrower.
The smooth voice of Otis Redding singing Merry Christmas Baby cuts out as her phone rings through the speakers of her black Honda Accord. Glancing down as the light changes, she sees “My Man” display on the screen and she feels her stomach clench as she presses on the gas, preparing herself for more bad news. The fireplace and chimney needed repairs and it was supposed to be ready to use today but she had learned that most of the time, a contractor’s definition of deadline was a hell of a lot different than the rest of the worlds. Letting out a groan, she rakes her fingers through her long brown hair and flips it to the other side of her head before hitting the answer button on the steering wheel. “Please don’t tell me they didn’t finish the fireplace.” She says in way of greeting.
“You used to be an optimist.” Mark laughs.
“Uh huh. I’m optimistic there was a family of possums living in the chimney and they refused to relocate.”
“Nah, the fireplace is good to go. The possums moved out when they started working on it. Didn’t like all the banging.” He laughs again. “I was just calling to tell you I got pizza on the way here so you didn’t stop to pick something up. What’s your ETA?”
“Turning onto the street now.” Dani replies, slowing down to make the right hand turn.
“Sounds good Shnookums. See you in a few.”
Laughing, Dani shakes her head. “You are such a dork.”
“Already been established.”
Mark hangs up as Dani pulls up to the house, stopping to grab the bags of cabinet hardware and new faucets from her trunk. They had yet to decide if they were refinishing or replacing the kitchen and bathroom cabinets because that could wait, but that didn’t mean they had to live with brass fixtures in the meantime. Looking at the landscaping lining the front walk, less overgrown than when they bought it, she doesn’t notice that curtains are drawn across the living room windows until she begins to ascend the steps. When had Mark put those up and why? Now they just had to take them down to paint.
The door opens and Mark stands before her, smiling as he takes the bags from her hands. “Wait there.” He instructs, leaving her confused as he sets the bags down in the foyer. “I have a surprise for you.” He shuts the door and steps up behind her, covering her eyes before guiding her forward. She giggles as he turns them left into the living room, staying quiet because she knows that asking what the surprise is would prove fruitless. Mark stops walking and she feels his chest press against her back as he leans down, making her shiver when his lips brush her ear. “Ready?” He whispers.
She nods and he removes his hands, wrapping his arms around her waist, holding her tight and resting his chin on her shoulder. Opening her eyes, she gasps, hand flying to her mouth at the sight in front of her. “Mark… when?... How?…” She marvels, eyes wide as they sweep the room. Above the burning logs in the fireplace, the mantle was hung with two stockings and adorned with garland, twined together with white twinkling lights. A Christmas tree, decorated and shining with more white lights stood in front of the large window, and behind it, the curtains were hung on a wall, not only free of hideous gold wallpaper, but painted in the light grey color they chose together. There wasn’t any furniture, save for a coffee table that held the pizza, wine glasses and a bottle of wine in an ice bucket, but Mark had laid large cushions and blankets in the middle of the room. “This is…” Dani’s breath catches in her throat as happy tears flood her eyes. “This is so perfect Mark. I can’t believe you did all this for me.”
“I would do anything for you Dani you know that.” Mark replies, holding her tighter. “I know how bad you wanted to host Christmas here and it sucks that the renovations are taking so long. We might not be able to have everyone over to celebrate this year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have our own celebration just the two of us.”
She wipes the tears from her cheeks and turns in his arms, looping her arms around his neck as she raises herself on her tip-toes to kiss him. “When did you have time to do it all?”
“I used a few vacation days. I was kind of freaked out you were going to surprise me for lunch or something but the whole office knew if you showed up, they were to tell you I was stuck in meetings all day and couldn’t be disturbed.” A deep chuckle vibrates in his chest. “And once I realized what a bitch that god awful wallpaper was, I enlisted the gang for help.” Overwhelmed by the love she has for her husband, new tears spill from her eyes as she blinks and Mark frowns, reaching up to brush her tears away with his thumb. “Hey… why are you crying?”
“I’m just so happy.” Sniffling, she smiles. “You knew I wanted Christmas here and even though it’s not going to happen this year, you still made my dream come true. I love you so much Mark. Thank you for this.”
“You are very welcome. This house has been a pain in the ass, but my home is wherever you are and when it’s finally done, it’s going to be perfect because it’s ours. I love you more than anything in this world Dani and I’m going to spend the rest of my life doing everything in my power to make your dreams come true.” His arms tighten around her, pulling her as close as possible while he rests his forehead against hers, closing his eyes as he whispers against her lips. “Merry Christmas Baby.”

The National Library in Prishtina was supposed to be the focal point of the university buildings complex. When Andrija Mutnjaković was commissioned to design a library for the ex-Yugoslavian province, the tension between Albanian and Serbian Kosovars was already palpable. Looking for a unifying symbol, he came up with the cube and dome, common features of the Ottoman and Byzantine architectural styles that define the appearance of the region.

The Fig
I walked up to the bar where Lucas had said to meet him, double-checking the location on my phone. This place looked beat to hell, run down—hardly the luxe cocktail bar my editor had mentioned in our meeting earlier that day. Maybe the team was hazing me? I was still pretty new on the bar beat, and I wouldn’t put it past them—my company’s culture could get a little frat-like at times, and I was the first woman on their team of six reporters.
Maybe some of them were jealous of my “acceleration,” the somewhat inscrutable metric for success that our CEO had put into place last quarter. Whatever the magic formula was, though, I had cracked it with my first exclusive. My coverage of a new SoHo queer bar’s take on a Corpse Reviver #2 that was in its own right revolutionary—the secret ingredient was reduced rhum cotton candy stacked high atop the tiki mug the drink was served in—had gone viral only three hours after the piece had posted to the site. Lucky for me, I was dating the owner, a semi-famous mixologist renowned for her innovative drink presentation—Sasha had been kind enough to let me write about her.
We hadn’t been dating long, only about a week or so, but her pull was strong on me. Every moment spent gone from her was a dull ache in my chest, a burning, lower. So being here, at this bar, where I was certain I was about to get punked by my male coworkers—on a Monday, no less, the only day that Sasha’s bar was closed . . . I felt like a sucker. But, as I looked at the bar’s faded sign again—it was called The Fig—something crawled through me. Danger? No, it couldn’t be. I was a bad bitch. Tall, thick. Anybody with the idea that I might be easy pickin’s was quickly dispatched with a scowl and a straightening of my shoulders.
Whatever these boys had in store for me wasn’t enough to scare me. So then, what was this feeling? Interest? The place, as dilapidated as it seemed on first glance, was alluring in its way. It was situated at the crux of a weird intersection, bounded on either side by small streets that ran alongside three bigger, much busier thoroughfares, to create a chaotic clump of five streets. Music poured down from a small, empty rooftop that was overgrown with lush plants and flowers. Along one of these streets, the bar had no windows, just a solid concrete wall that had been decorated with a huge mural of some strange bug. It looked like a bee or a beetle, but with a thin, long head and translucent wings shaped like those of a butterfly. A thin, whip-like appendage that was almost twice the length of the bug itself extruded from its abdomen, right in the place where a stinger might be. The front of the bar looked out onto the corner of the intersection, at the meeting point of the two roads. The one window in the front of the bar held a single neon sign that read PSYCHIC in cursive yellow and red. Patterned lace curtains were draped behind it, making it hard to see into the bar.
I stepped up to the door, and the same strange feeling coursed through me again. Like when I had touched the bare outlet in my aunt’s guest bathroom as a child. Involuntarily, I stopped dead. Weird.
I had to push myself forward on the bar’s threshold. Lifting my hand to the door knob felt like moving my arm through thick molasses. My phone dinged. Sasha.
6:55 PM
bb have fun at the bar. hurry back to me. im waiting ;)
I smiled at the text, then shook my head. What was I doing? I just needed to get this over with so I could get over to Sasha’s.
Ignoring the feeling of wrongness prickling my skin, I put my hand on the doorknob, turned it, and stepped into the bar.
Inside, it was a garish, dingy pink, like the inside of a mouth, some mucous membrane. Baroque decor—a limp looking beige silk sofa sagged in one corner, in another a set of mismatched embroidered armchairs gathered around a spindly iron coffee table painted white and flaking. A long unused fireplace carved from gray marble and festooned with cherubs and angel faces displayed an iron rack full of half-lit, melted pillar candles.
It was an oddly feminine place for Lucas’s crew to choose for a drink with the bros. He and the rest of his cohort had already arrived. They were sitting at the bar, hunched over drinks, their black-suited backs to me. Even the bar itself was overly frilly, draped in beads and lace and glowing a pale peach, thanks to some recessed lighting within the bar itself. The color was nearly the same shade as the glittery highlighter Sasha brushed across her high cheekbones every morning. No doubt choosing this place in particular was meant as some joke about my gender.
I rolled my eyes and strode up to the bar, clapped Lucas on the back. He was easily distinguished by the premature gray in his dark undercut.
He spun around. “You made it!” He grinned stupidly. Looked like the group had cut out a bit early to make it here with enough time to fully cash in on the happy hour specials, which ran until 8.
“Yep,” I said. “How’s things? You wanted to meet?”
One of the others, Brad or something—we hadn’t really met yet, laughed aloud at a joke the bartender had made. The rest of the guys leered at me, in various states of drunk.
“Siddown!” Lucas crooned, and I took a seat at the empty stool next to him.
The unsettling feeling from before hadn’t faded, and I had already assessed the room—exits to the back right and the way I’d come a decrepit set of iron stairs that twirled up to the rooftop deck I’d seen from the street. Club mixes of 80s pop lilted from the speakers in the other corners. There were a few other patrons in the bar that I could see, coupled off by the front window, in a small clump by the sofa. The air smelled sickly, hung thick beneath the gaudy chandelier lighting. It tasted like fermented peaches—like farmhouse cider, or a funky saison. Sasha and I were both into craft beer and small batch brewing.
Before I could say anything, Lucas had motioned to the bartender, who was presenting me with an acid green up cocktail.
“Uh, thanks,” I said, immediately wary, but trying to be cool. Everyone was acting a little strange—I had been sure they’d have jumped on me right away, roasted me for my masculine look, or my success, or my general otherness, but they were all acting pretty chill, if a bit loopy. Maybe the invitation had been genuine after all, and this was just how they partied.
Lucas smiled, his features a little droopy—how long had they been here?—and patted me on the shoulder.
“Not always that we get a noob with acceleration!” he said loudly, and at this, the other guys turned and started to pay attention.
“Oh. Yeah,” I said, not wanting to play it down—though if I were with my girl friends, I would have. I straightened up. “Well, I know what I’m doing, so.”
The oldest guy in the group besides Lucas snorted. His name was Todd, and he’d been with the company for three years now—long for this business. Everyone knew that he was struggling with acceleration.
“You don’t know shit,” he said. His words were rude, but his tone was good-natured enough. “None of us do. Even the CEO, Roderick. No idea what the public wants. It’s all this PC culture, ruining everything. Can’t even have an opinion on something anymore.”
I frowned. Of course he was one of those. Todd downed his drink, signalled for another.
Arun shook his head. “Shut up, man. Don’t you realize that makes you sound like an asshole?” He looked at me, and I blinked. His face seemed blurry, or—no. It seemed to be sagging. I smiled, trying to not to stare. He kept talking. “The girl clearly knows what she’s doing,” he said. His lip somehow curling as the rest of his face wilted. “I mean, sleeping with your sources is bound to help you get deep inside of the story.”
Brad laughed again, a guffaw that sounded almost cartoonish. “Have you seen her girl?” he slurred. “Not really the marrying type, but damn she is fun to look at.”
Lucas waggled his eyebrows at me. “Yeah, thanks for the pictures, too.”
Damn Chai’s photography skills, I thought. Our publication was known for its amazing photos. Chai, our lead photographer, was truly gifted, which meant that she’d captured Sasha behind the bar at just the right moment—her cheeks flushed with heat, her golden eyes focused, perfectly lit, as she seared an orange rind with a newly struck match. Tiny beads of sweat like dew at her brow and collarbone. I guess for these guys it helped that she liked to wear low cut dresses while she worked. In the feature image for my piece, Sasha had looked like fucking Tessa Thompson. The thought of Sasha, of that picture, sent me back to the text she had sent not ten minutes ago—
hurry back to me. im waiting ;)
The guys were cheering and high fiving each other, practically drooling. This was nonsense. I took a sip of my drink and winced—the lime green cocktail tasted bitter and reeked of ethanol.
“What’s in this?” I asked the bartender, but they had their back to me and didn’t respond. I could barely make out their features in the mercury-stained mirror that hung above the dusty bottles of liquor behind the bar.
“Hey,” Lucas practically shouted into my ear. “How’d you end up with a babe like that, anyway? You’re just a dyke.”
I whipped around, ready to slap him, but then I saw his face.
His features were totally distorted, almost as though his flesh were melting, like the wax of the candles in the fireplace, like Arun’s face, but worse, far worse. The pink sockets of his eyes grew as his bottom eyelids sagged, his eyeballs, horrifyingly spherical, jostling as the space they occupied shifted.
I gasped and jumped back, toppled over. I thought I was going to fall off of the barstool, but it came with me, adhered to me by some beige, creeping slime. I yelped and pulled myself from the chair, slapped at the gunk on my pant seat. A faint hissing noise came from the caustic goop.
The guys were jeering, making fun of my start and cackling to themselves about the fall. I couldn’t bear to look closely at them. I couldn’t bear to see Lucas’s face again, not like that—all dripping and disfigured. He was a dick, but he was still a person. At least I hoped so.
I took my phone from my pocket, checked the time.
11:55 PM.
How could it be so late? I dimmed the screen, pushed the button to illuminate it again, and the time was the same, but now there was a series of messages from Sasha as well.
8:01 PM
how’s it going?
9:10 PM
bb
9:10 PM
do you think you’ll come over tonight?
9:15 PM
i hope they’re being nice to you
10:45 PM
Ro, are you okay? starting to worry…
11:32 PM
Ro seriously this isn’t funny
Fuck. How had so much time passed? Did Lucas fucking roofie me? No, I thought. No, I had been drugged at a club before. This wasn’t how it felt.
A moaning sound from the bar and I snapped my head up, looked dead on as the bartender, who had no discernable face, I could see now—just a blank oval of skin tone painted on like nail polish. I watched in horror as the face color melted away to reveal a perfectly polished, nearly opaline skull. Only the skull was no longer a skull at all, not really, but instead a shined white sphere, growing ever smaller as the flesh color drained from its surface. Beneath, the body writhed and jerked as the last spasms of life left the bartender and great hunks of muscle flopped down from their arms onto the floor, which, I noticed then, was crawling with the same slime that had stuck me to the chair. I wanted to run, but I was frozen in place by the spectacle before me.
The bartender had become more of a skeleton than anything, but a strange scream erupted from the body as its shined white limbs began to shorten and curl. I looked around at the other patrons of the bar, then—Lucas and his crew were all melting in a similar fashion—had they given me acid? But no, I could hear them all screaming, set to the overly positive backbeat of Tiffany and the B-52s. The bartender had become a kind of grotesque, ultra foo foo coat rack made of bone, and Lucas, Todd, Brad, and Arun seemed to be melding together, their flesh melting onto the barstools where they sat in such a way that they began to resemble an ornate, blood-red chaise lounge. They wailed together, and Lucas reached out to me. I screamed, and remembered myself.
I looked down. My legs were throbbing with the beige slime, which stretched almost all the way over my knees. “Fuck!” I yelled.
No way in hell I was going to become part of some shitty Williamsburg dive bar. Fuck that.
I ran, or tried to run, for the door. I was moving, that was good, but the most I could manage was a determined kind of lurch. I trudged forward, my heart beating hard in my ears, as I focused on the George Michael lyrics pouring from the bar’s speakers. I willed myself to move, to keep moving, to never stop, even as I neared the door.
My phone rang in my hand. Sasha. But I couldn’t answer. I had to focus.
The couple at the table near the window was melting also, their shared skin flowing together like spilled shades of paint over the wire table and white wicker chairs. I looked away.
The floor of the bar bucked, then, as if it knew I was trying to escape, and I crumpled to the ground. The slime overtook me, moving much faster than it had before. With a yell, I pushed myself up to my feet and ripped my torso away from the hungry slime.
In the corner of my eye, the couple at the table—or the chrysalis-like shape they had morphed into—bubbled up once. I stared, transfixed, even as I worked toward the door. The chrysalis throbbed again, then shook violently. Then it cracked open with a sick noise of breaking bone.
But what emerged from the chrysalis was almost too monstrous to describe.
It was a giant wasp, or something like a wasp, black and shined and buzzing, still new and dripping with whatever amniotic fluid it had emerged from. Was it the couple’s blood? I gagged, but still I pushed toward the door.
It didn’t seem like it could fly yet, because it crawled on almost human arms up the wall of the bar, and onto the cieiling, hanging upside-down between me and the way out. I could barely make out the couple’s faces, stretched and distorted, in the wasp’s wings, mouths still working in distress even as they melded slowly into the wasp. A long, black, whip-like stinger grew out of its abdomen, a near-perfect echo of the mural I had seen earlier, outside.
I screamed again, this time more out of desperation than anything. I had more to do before I died. I had more stories to tell. I had Sasha, sure, but I wasn’t certain that we were meant to be anything real yet. I wasn’t done loving her and I wasn’t done meeting people. I had worked harder than this, dammit! I deserved better than to be yet another woman who had gone out for drinks with male colleagues and had never come back.
The wasp crawled closer to the door, and the beige slime crept over my arms and shoulders, nearing the tips of my fingers. I felt the structure of my face start to shift as I lunged for the door. My hand closed around the doorknob just as the wasp descended.
I closed my eyes and threw my whole weight forward into the door. A terrible buzzing filled my head, and I hit pavement.
The door slammed closed behind me.
For a moment, I thought I was dead, surely eaten by the bar, by the wasp, gone forever, just another queer casualty everyone would cry out for on Twitter and then promptly forget about. But I was still alive and whole, despite the state of my outfit, which was pocked with holes all over, as though I’d been living in a closet full of moths for the last five years. But the slime was gone. My phone was in my hand.
Breathing hard, I checked the time. 5:20 AM.
I laughed aloud at my luck, at my existence, and the few drunk stragglers on the street jumped, looked at me funny. I turned back to look at the bar. All of the lights were off, save for the neon PSYCHIC sign glinting yellow and red in the front window. The sky had started to lighten, and as I stared into the window, wondering if what I’d been through, if what had happened to Lucas and everyone else in the bar had been real, I saw the dark shape of a giant insect crawl across the window.
It paused there, as if regarding me, and then crawled back into the shadows of The Fig.
A shiver ran through me. I felt drunk and wobbly. I let out a huge breath, and then I took out my phone to text Sasha. She was never going to believe me.
As I typed, I noticed something strange. My thumb was changing. Little bumps appeared and then they grew into small, sharp points. It wasn’t painful, not really, but it was startling, and I pocketed my phone, looked closer at my hands. The bumps were all over my hands and forearms, bubbling up and then hardening into hair-thin points. If I didn’t look too closely, I could almost imagine that they were hair.
And then the growing stopped. I touched one of the prickles gingerly and pulled back. They were sharp, alright, and they covered my arms from the elbow to the backs of my knuckles and thumbs.
The door to the bar swung open, then, and a gust of the rank-smelling rotten air whooshed out toward me. I covered my face with my arms and closed my eyes. When I heard the door slam and the wind stopped, I looked up. The bar was closed. Nothing had changed.
But then I looked down at my arms. A fine beige dust coated the new spines on my forearms. I tried brushing it off, once, twice, and then frantically, but it didn’t budge. I looked at The Fig, at the wasp mural on the wall, and then I remembered something I’d learned back in elementary school science class. Mutualism. How some species depended on each other in particular ways. I hadn’t made it out, not really. I had, but not of my own volition.
This was how it spread. I wasn’t a survivor. I was a pollinator.

181129 | All of Our Past (Don't Let It Erase) [SEMI-AU]
BB: "11:57-- look, there's 3 more minutes of Valentine's Day, babe... come, I have one last surprise."
If Hanbin could see the nerves of anxiety thrumming under his neck, he was certainly doing a good job of keeping his lips sealed; in the darkened air of the evening Jiwon was only glad that his flushed cheeks could be partially hidden, the sliver of the moonlight illuminating his boyfriend's sparkling chestnut eyes.the collar on his pressed suit collar suddenly felt suffocating and far too stiff as he pushed open the double doors to the roof of their company building, the cool air barely enough to soothe the burning in his veins and the hammering of his pulse. from somewhere behind him he vaguely heard the sharp intake of air from Hanbin, the younger male's smaller hand squeezing into his own from where their fingers were interlocked. fairy lights danced above the small space, hanging across wires secured to the concrete walls, rose petals scattered across the old brick as Jiwon led the both of them towards the centre of the setup. he made a mental note to thank Donghyuk and Jinhwan for this later - he knew how much effort they put into making sure this evening was perfect for their leader.
there was silence as he turned around to face his boyfriend, and the only emotion he could depict was 'love', and 'awe', at how incredibly in love he was with the other and in disbelief that he was about to propose to the love of his life. Hanbin was still somewhat in shock, darting from Jiwon, and back to the lights - almost as if trying to figure out what exactly was about to happen. "hey... you alright?" the rapper murmured, pulling him close by the waist and swaying them to the gentle tunes filtering through the small stereo system in the corner. their foreheads laid together for a moment, then; the round velvet box feeling especially weighted as he became hyperaware of its presence in his pocket.
"I... I don't know how else to begin except... telling you that I love you. I hope I've done everything to make you happy today, as I hope to do for the rest of my life. Before you say anything, I know how stupid I can be sometimes, and I don't know how you put up with me... but you do. And for that, I'm so incredibly happy. You have made me the happiest man in the world by being my boyfriend; I hope you'd do me the honour of being mine forever."
Slowly, Jiwon pulled away to sink onto one knee, trembling fingers clutching at the box to reveal a glistening silver band nestled in the centre.
"Kím Hanbin... will you marry me?"
HB: Being lost in the decoration and blinding lights was nothing new to him. Although it was difficult to concentrate on one particular thing at a time, he figured that whoever was involved in the makings of it would want him to admire the handiwork as well. Some part of him felt it cliche that they were on the rooftop--the very same place he asked Jiwon to go out with him some two years prior. However, it made it all the more meaningful to him. What, after such a beautiful day filled with joyous activities, this was easily the pièce de résistance.
Hanbin could not stop smiling, even if he tried. If staying up there and looking at the stars until they fell asleep was the plan, then he was all for it. But he waited for the other to speak, and listened intently once he began. His cheeks turned bright pink as the words went on, and maybe he needed ro take a seat because processing it all while standing felt wrong--as if he had to say something just as beautiful or leap out and kiss him in response.
No time later, however, Jiwon was on one knee and holding a box out to him. Hanbin was still smiling as he tried to deal with his sudden emotions. Happiness, excitement, gratefulness.. Then there was a feeling of fear, and sadness, and guilt. He felt like his body temperature shot up in an instant, and it was suddenly too difficult to breathe. He stared at the elder male, but he had no words. He had no answer to give.
A proposal?
Somehow, he should have known. He should have seen it coming. Everything was far too perfect and romantic to not lead up to this moment. But Hanbin might have just lived in the denial of it. He would ignore the thought whenever he thought about mar.. it--he couldn’t even say the word in his own head. Jiwon was his everything, and he loved him so much. So why was that not enough? Why did he have to bring a proposal into their relationship? Didn’t they have comebacks and tours to prepare for? Why now of all times? He wanted to let it all out--ask him why he had to change everything like that. Tears ran down his face before he even realized it. ‘I’m sorry’, he whispered.
“I can’t.” He choked.
BB: he spent weeks making sure that every little detail leading up to this point would be perfect. he even had his locks trimmed and styled specifically for the occasion, knowing that in a few short weeks the stylists would probably have them alter it again. there was nothing here that could put a damper on his mood; not even Chanwoo's bratty comments about how corny all of this was going to be. Hanbin was the love of his life-- his best friend, his soulmate; their relationship was perfect and everything about this moment was exactly as he'd imagined. nothing could go wrong... right?
Hanbin looked so handsome that night, as Jiwon never failed to mention many times during their light dinner together - a specially reserved table for them at his favourite Italian restaurant. From his position on one knee, glancing up at the man he was about to spend the rest of his life with, he was close to tears at the mere thought that all the choices he had made in his life, all the times he thought about quitting... would all lead up to this. Suddenly he saw his boyfriend's smile fall and his heart dropped to his gut - he knew that look, but nothing could prepare him for the words that came after.
"--what...?" even his tongue felt heavy and useless in his mouth when the word escaped him, barely grazing past the parched abyss of his tightening throat with every silent second that passed. Jiwon saw the tears, and he could feel the fiery heat of his own burning at his eyelids, but all of that paled in comparison to the thundering ringing in his ears that blocked out all coherent thoughts.
"Hanbin I--... oh..."  slowly he rose from the ground and the velvet box tumbled uselessly out of his fingers, the quiet 'ping' of the silver as it hit the concrete deafening in the silence. but he mustered the strength to speak, just before turning away to hide the anger and confusion growing in his expression. ".... there's someone else, isn't there?"
HB: If only he didn’t have such an overactive imagination. The words he so desperately tried to avoid escaped him anyway, and anything that came afterwards was going to be his fault. Hanbin could already envision how pained and terrible they will both feel when they meet during studio sessions. He could already find himself avoiding the downstairs apartment. He could already see how far they will fall because of this very night. He felt disgusting, and utterly undeserving of how a wonderful human being like Kim Jiwon could love him. It was stupid to assume that /he/ was in love when it was clearly unmatched by the other’s.
At this point, his ears closed up as if they were inside an airplane at thirty thousand feet. It almost seemed like he could go deaf from this, but then he could also hear an incoming accusatory tone. He sniffled. Someone else? No one in the multiverse could ever live up to Jiwon, but what did that matter now? He blew it.
“No.” He squeaked. It was difficult to say anything while he cried--and yet he didn’t feel deserving of tears either. “How could anybody..” He croaked as his eyes fell to his feet. There laid the fallen and abandoned silver band, which was supposedly going to be the stepping stone to the rest of their lives.
…...the rest of their lives.
Hanbin curled up into a ball on the floor, hugging his knees, as he sobbed into his hands. ‘I can’t do that.’ He could never deal with that sort of commitment, and he was so mad that Jiwon never talked to him about it. ‘I can’t do this.’ That way they could have avoided all this. ‘Why is this happening.’ Maybe then he could say yes. ‘What did i do.’ He should’ve said yes. ‘What do i do now.’

u want questions and shit?? well listen up f u c k e r; all the multiples of 5 g o
I already oneupped u so no need for me to tell u that ur a (lovely) fuck, but also I love answering stuff and having an excuse to talk about myself so rly u just did me a favour so thank you bb ♥ (but dont try to oneup the Questions Queen again :eyes:)
Answers under read more for the poor unfortunate souls that follow me ✮
5: 4 turn on’s.
Well okay that’s how it’s gonna start. Um, let’s see.
1, strength, show me someone strong and I swoon, although it depends on ppl because what I prefer is kind strong people because I don’t wanna be afraid for my life ya know?? But show me someone fuckin wrecking the shit out of someone shitty that deserves it and they got me.
2, uhh, turn ons hmm, possessiveness maybe. Like, I know it can be actually bad, but a healthy amount of possessiveness makes me melt. (If we want to go on a more nsfw-ish route, then that’d imply possessive kisses and leaving hickies and okay I’ll stop here)
3, dominance. I’m a really anxious and nervous wreck that doesn’t know what she’s doing, so someone taking the lead is much appreciated, and quite attractive if not shown in an unhealthy way, yknow?
4, full nsfw, light bondage. Does this count as turn on or fetish or what? I don’t even know but tie my hands up and I melt. This is getting more nsfw than I first intended. Ellie I apologise if you get uncomfortable reading this lmfao
10: How tall am I?
I actually don’t know, it’s been a while since I last checked! Last time I was around 163cm but I should really check again soon.
15: Favorite quote?
It’s hard to say that I have a favouite quote simply because I don’t have the memory to remember any, but I at least know that anytime a question about a quote comes up, I can always remember Daniel Howell’s (danisnotonfire’s) “You only live once, so make it a happy one”.
20: First thing I notice in new person?
This one’s a bit tricky to answer, because when I meet a new person I’m more concerned of what they’ll think of me than the other way around. I guess facial features are one thing I notice first, simply because I look at them, but also hair I guess?
25: Ever done a prank call?
You know, I genuinely can’t remember, but I have this strong feeling that it has happened once. I’m trying to recall but nothing concrete comes up, goddammit.
30: Favorite band?
Owl City, deadass. It counts, right?
35: Favorite holiday.
I like Christmas because I like the decorations, the lights, the tree, the food, and especially the gifts, tbh.
40: Do I ever get “good morning” or “good night” texts?
I’m in a server with Ayla, Dave, and Dirk, so yeah, we say good morning and good night to each other! Also, in the server with Elsa and Alex, we’re not constantly talking but there are good morning/good night texts.
Leo used to send me those texts too but I think he realised I’m never awake when he is and that I don’t check WhatsApp enough to reply to his good night ones in time lol, oops. (He’s not on Tumblr but I love you Leo, sorry I’m an ass)
45: Where am I right now?
In my room, like 95% of my time, lmfao.
50: Do I have someone of the opposite sex I can tell everything to?
Oh man, I should shoot a text to my best friend soon, I’m such an asshole. But yeah, that’d be Rani! Leo too, but Rani’s been my best friend ever since I was like 13 so he’s really dear to me.
55: What is something I disliked about today?
My day has barely started, soooo... the taste of my meds. Okay, they work well enough with my depression, but they have a horrible taste that makes me want to throw up each morning, man
60: Do I prefer to be behind the camera or in front of it?
Behind - I like taking photos. Like, a lot.
When my cousin Vanessa was over when we were younger and she had a friend over, sometimes they’d ask me to take pics. Plus, when I went over to her place, sometimes she’d show me a selfie she took/was trying to take and ask me for advice to make it look better. And I’m no professional or anything, I didn’t take any classes or courses and I haven’t done research so I’m not gonna pretend I know anything about it, I don’t know jack shit, but she trusted my taste and instinct which is better than nothing at all, and I just. enjoy it
65: Do I believe in luck?
Yes.
Bro. I’m basically Komaeda but a less extreme version, and kind of opposite.
I have absolutely shitty luck more often than not, but sometimes I have incredibly good luck with something and I’m like, this is to make up for all of that. Nice.
70: What was the worst injury I’ve ever had?
Oh man, I don’t know. I know I went to the hospital once but I can’t remember why, but it was more sickness than injury I believe, so that’s out of the question. I never got a cast or anything either. Hmm. I’ve twisted my ankles more times than I can count? Oh, and I’m not sure if it counts, but there was a winter I was playing like soccer with my bro inside the house, in the hall, and it’s a tiny ass hall and I was in front of the house door okay, and there’s a radiator next to it okay, and the ball was really small, and instead of kicking it I slipped on it and hit my back half on the door half on the radiator corner and I just... stopped breathing. I believe I could breathe out but not breathe in. I was absolutely terrified. I remember thinking, “this is not how I wanna die”. My brother helped me up and we went to my mom scared shitless and she got scared too but thankfully after a few seconds I could breathe again and I was crying man, that was the scariest shit that’s happened to me.
75: What was I doing last night at 12 AM?
Browsing Tumblr tbh, and who is surprised, really
80: What is my favorite word?
Hmmm. Hard to say. I like the word “quintessence” though.
85: What would be a question I’d be afraid to tell the truth on?
“Do you like me?” Which sounds absolutely silly, I know, but afraid? I don’t really have many secrets or anything, but like... that’s a scary question. Because if you don’t know whether the person you like likes you back, that’s an impossible question. You might say yes and make things awkward and shit, or you might say no but you might ruin any chances you had. It’s an impossible question, man. This probably sounds silly, I know, I know. That’s just how it is.
90: Failed a class?
Ohhhh yup. Oh man, my first year of high school, I went to study, uhhh... behavioural sciences? It’s the first time I think I got the right word, holy shit. So it’s like, sociology, anthropology, psychology, etc. And guess which class I failed out of everything I had? Behavioural sciences.
Listen, they wanted me to remember names and dates and the goddamn life of all these psychologists I don’t give a fuck about and I cannot, okay, I can’t.
95: Left the house without my wallet?
Yeah, there’s a shop right under our house pretty much, and when I need to go grab cigarettes for my mom, if I don’t need a wallet then I just go without, since in 5 minutes I’m gone, bought, and back.
100: Did drugs?
Nah man, just meds for my mental illness. Although I was in the same room while someone smoked a joint, but haven’t tried it myself.
105: Been underweight?
When I was a baby, I think. Mom says I was underweight and the nurses were worried and had to put me in an incubator. She can’t remember how much I weighted though, she was asleep at the time, so I need to ask my dad later.
110: Gotten my heart broken?
I mean, yeah. Silly crushes when I was younger, and just, generally breaking up hurts, you know? But not really anything interesting, so no stories here.
115: Been in airplane?
I have like, this distinct memory of being in an airplane, but I don’t know if it was real or a dream, nor where we went or whatever. I think it was the time we went to a theme park but I really can’t recall so I can’t say for sure.
120: Wore make up?
Yeah bruh. I don’t really wear it often, but I do have makeup and stuff. Usually if I go out and meet up with people I wear at least pink lipliner, but not much else (especially with this warmth). But I do like putting mascara on too, and I bought a liquid eyeliner a while ago I need to practice with!
125: Rode in an ambulance?
I don’t actually know. I know I went to the hospital when I was younger but I don’t know if my dad drove us there or if I went in an ambulance. I really don’t know. And thankfully I never rode an ambulance to be with someone else, although my dad did need one once, but I couldn’t go with, and he ended up being alright anyway, thankfully.
130: Been fishing?
Oh God yeah, I remember I went with my uncle, my bro and my cousin once, but I was absolutely disgusted by the worms so I hung out with my aunt and... I don’t really remember much of what I did, really. I was a smol child, man. But I have never actually fished myself.
135: How many kids do I want and what will be their names?
Well, I don’t really know. Growing kids isn’t an easy thing, it’s something to be taken seriously and all, so it’s hard to say. I’d like to have more than one though, so they’d have a sibling to spend time with and not feel lonely. Close in age would be better as well, as too much difference can make them become distant, or even cruel to one another (although there’s no guarantee they wouldn’t be even at the same age).
As for their names, well, I want to adopt if I ever get kids, so their names wouldn’t really be up to me. But if whatever reason I had to choose, I’d like for my kids to have gender neutral names. Because if their gender doesn’t match the one they were assigned with at birth, they wouldn’t be as uncomfortable with their name, and people around them could call them a name that doesn’t necessarily go against the gender they actually are but without them having to out themselves. Although they’d still have all the rights to change name if they wanted to. But yeah.
(I particularly like Max, to be honest. Oh, and Alex!)
140: Where do I want to live when older?
Somewhere cold, dear God. Canada sounds nice, although Dylan offered Finland as well as an idea, so I’ll keep my options open. Although I’d have to learn another language to go to Finland probably - or at least it’d be recommended.
145: Am I afraid of heights?
Actually, yeah! But ferriswheels are an exception. I’m just so in love with them I can’t be afraid.
150: The meanest thing somebody has ever said to me.
Oh boy. Um. I’ve been told a lot of shit, man. My brain just deleted them from our history, to not make my depression and anxiety even worse, man.
Um, I’ve been staring at the screen for a couple of minutes now. Well... I guess one that’s never sat well with me, is something my mom said. Which happened a couple of times or so, really. I mentioned the fact that I wanted to kill myself - not actively, that I was really wishing to do that, in an attempt to make her understand what I was feeling - and she was angry and just shouted “Then do it! Goodbye!”
It happened more than once. And it... well, it hurts.
155: Close your eyes and think of five things that make you smile when you think about them. What are they?
My friends, videogames, Voltron, comments on my fanfics, dnd!
160: Is it possible to love someone if you don’t love yourself?
Absolutely yes. I’ve loved so much and so passionately even when I hated myself more than I’ve ever hated anyone else. Anyone that tells you otherwise is saying bullshit.
You can love others without loving yourself. In fact, it can help loving yourself more, I believe - slowly, but it can make a difference.
165: Do you believe in individuals over generalisations?
Absolutely. I don’t like generalising, at all. It’s unfair to people. Although I understand the people that are like “white people are like this” “men are like this”, those are absolutely understandable. But if I met someone, personally, I’d judge them as what they are themselves, and not the generalisation of whatever group they’re part of.
By that, I mean that’s my own personal thought. I don’t expect everyone to do the same, and everyone has their own reasons to do as they believe.
170: Do you have any special or magical memories you’ll always have with you?
Oh, yeah, absolutely.
I was just telling this yesterday to my friend. And I’m p sure I’ve talked about it before but whatever I like mentioning it.
When I was younger I went to the hospital, okay. I stayed various days, and there was this kids room and this nice lady gave me drawings to colour in my room, and told me “Colour them by yourself!”.
Point is, my grandma had come visit me. And I was esthatic. And when we went back to our room, shared a glance, and coloured it together. And it’s not much, but we kept that our little secret, and I had so much fun. It’s one of the best memories I’ll always keep with me. Always.
175: Is there a reason for existence?
Do you want me to have an existential crisis right here right now?
180: Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed?
Closed. We don’t have a big room and to keep them open would take pretty much half of the room, really.
185: What do you drink with dinner?
I can gobble down food without drinking, man. (Although there have been points where I almost choked that way, oops.) But if I drink, I usually drink water, or iced tea when we have it. If I’m eating outside though I got with a Coke, more often than not.
190: Can you cry on command?
Nah bruh, sometimes I can’t even cry when I feel like crying. My tears have their own will. (Aka they come out when I don’t want them to, goddammit.)
195: What is your usual bedtime?
Oh bruh, that fluctuates a lot. Sometimes I sleep at 3am, sometimes at midnight, sometimes 1 or 2am, but there have been times where I was particularly tired and went to sleep as early as 9 or 10pm. Usually it’s around 2am though.
200: Do you sing in the shower?
Bro, yes. I put on music and sing along to it. I love it man!
205: Occupations you wanted to be when you were a kid?
Mostly poet and writer!
210: Do you want to get married?
I... don’t particularly want to? It’s not like, on my wishlist. I mean, I get hype at them, because food and gifts and just an all around good time and especially pretty dresses, yknow? But as for the symbolism of the marriage, I don’t particularly care? I guess it has legal benefits, but aside from that, I don’t really understand much about how being in a relatinoship is different than being married. Like, I’m gonna take my relationship seriously even before getting married, so... I dunno. I guess if I felt like enough time had passed and I was ready for what would be a big step for a lot of people, I wouldn’t turn a proposal down, but if I never got married I wouldn’t particularly care?
215: Have you ever tried sushi? (Did you like it?)
I did and nope, unfortunately. I might attempt again in the future but also I might not.
220: Which friend would you go to in an emergency?
Irl, it depends? I have like, two friends, my man. Probably Leo - I love and trust him, and can rely on him, and also he lives close to me and has a driving license and a car. Also, if it’s like, health-wise emergency, he did a first aid course and stuff, so he’d also probably be useful. Also he’s just a relaxing presence, and a funny guy. I would, without any hint of doubt, trust Leo with my life.
Although he also works in another city so I wouldn’t be able to catch him during the day during the week, so rip me.
225: Ever had a detention?
Nay. Detentions aren’t really a thing here in Italy? Or they’ve never been in any schools I’ve been to, anyway. :3c
Thanks for sending me these, you giant nerd, and have fun reading through ♥

Where is e hiding in fractals and other iterative systems?
On a strictly conceptual basis, this is what I know:
A) Logorithm = 1/exponential. They are inverse operations. When these operations arise, we enter the realm of "scale." When we measure ∆ in the scale realm, we aren't measuring the change of the list (x1, x2, x3), we're measuring the scalar (read: number) that modifies the list. This is why everything tends towards some infinity or some 0 when we deal with exponential and logorithmic functions. When I hear logorithm or exponential, "e is here" bells start going off.
Ba) Fractals are a new type (or possibly just 'newly decorated type', which is my hypothesis) of way to demonstrate the idea of convergence. We have computers strong enough to show pretty pictures of self-similarity in concrete fashion. In comp sci they call this recursion, iteration, etc. but basically, it's whenever we run f(x0) and then return the output back into the same function as the new x value. This is how cycles and generations work.
Bb) It turns out that fractal patterns dominate any emergent system - especially the the class of emergent systems of which we are most familiar, those found in nature. This is why strange 'islands of stability' pop up when we're dealing with population sizes over time. Pretty much whenever the t variable is present in a system, we allow for emergent properties due to non-linear relationships. This is the land of non-ergodicity and path dependency.
So both fractals and "e" are at the axiomatic core of time series math. And though e is child of 18th century pure mathematics, and fractals are voodoo math invented in the 1960s with the explosion of computational power, they both seem to be mapping the same fundamental principal of 'reality over time.' But, I can't read the map. I'm part-time dyslexic so +∆ of concepts outpaces +∆ of notational skills by a factor of 2<t<3. And I'm impatient bc fractals have changed how I look at the world. Can anyone who speaks the language of this "non-linear" map teach me how to read the legend? Want to learn what's being generalized here...
