i wholeheartedly agree with ur response to my previous ask, especially with the trilingual and accent one. i imagine its like a somewhat thick-ish accent too that they have (rorke’s is probably more light than logans), since portuguese and spanish are probably the more dominant languages than english. (mainly my hc/theory bc of the fed that was stuttering in spanish and english before keegan killed him during the ajax mission but that’s somewhat irrelevant).

now adding onto ur trilingual hc(?), i imagine logan forgetting certain words and his mind goes absolutely blank in trying to find what the fuck the word is in any of the languages hes fluent in. (example: “i think he went to the… eh…“) and yes, this 100% applies to rorke, and if not the old man is probably WORSE. but unlike logan, rorke is way more fluent in english, as logan cant hold an entire conversation without speaking in either the other two dominant languages. of course though, i would like to think this is when logan decides to speak, because i feel like hes more of a “i hate people so i don’t talk” but is compassionate type of guy. (totally not cause we dont hear the man speak because of the silent protagonist era..)

im not sure what hesh’s(specifically) and the other ghosts reaction would be besides surprised pikachu, “he forgot english? we took THAT long???”, or “what the fuck did rorke DO.”, but im sure itd be something funny or angsty. as hesh and logan in your hc(that i adore cause it honestly suits them) are mixed and dont have that strong of an accent, the accent change from logan when he decides to talk would probably make hesh feel sad in a way, knowing he took too long to find logan before he 1) develops an accent, 2) is now trilingual, and 3) most likely doesn’t remember him or really any of the ghosts if we take that route of angst.

bonus again in favor of your lovely bonus: rorke and logan would absolutely make fun of eachother when they forget a word. (it would also be funny if its other feds who join in but they’re all probably scared of both or they all also deal with the same problem… but they might..)

Logan frustrated to tears because he's gotta sort through three languages to find one word (Four if you include american sign, ASL, headcanon.) when he doesn't even like speaking. He'd make some bad joke about it being the reason he doesn't talk a lot, it's too much work when he can just stand there looking scary and let Rorke do his monologues.

Pls, calling Rorke an old man. I forget he's older than Elias because he really does NOT act like it. They gave him eternal youth in the pit or something because how the fuck was he getting his ass whooped like he was and shaking it off? (Au perhaps, curse of immortality?)

I HC that Logan's selectively mute (as do a few moots of mine) so to me it's not that he hates talking to people, it's just that speaking verbally makes him majorly uncomfortable. So instead he communicates through different avenues. Like writing things to be read, or signing, and even letting Hesh do all the talking for him. (One he uses the most, because it's easiest. Which can be used for angst when Logan then refuses to have Hesh talk for him post pit/beach EHEHHEHE.) He is absolutely so compassionate tho, I love that, I adore giving him a really big heart. Makes the angst where he's cold and angry so much more painful! :D (<- The face of a man who suffers under his own hand)

Oh the angst of the Ghosts being forced to face how much time has passed when they meet Logan again and he's changed so radically his primary language is no longer his "mother tongue." (mother tongue being spanglish, new primary being solely spanish.) Even outside a full "Amnesic Logan" au there'd still be things he'd forget and that is some good angst to explore. Hells yeah.

hello im gonna drop some oc meta copied over from discord because i wanna (& also want to have it saved for easy access dfgfhgjh) 

okay im just gonna dfghjh more Voice Style symbolism bc i find when writing katerina im extremely selective with her word choice for dialogue & there is a Reason for that and its aaaaaaAAAAA

 she's got a weirdly affected way of speaking in general. her word choice is usually more formal than nines or any of his coterie. when she first came to america, her english was super rough & she worked hard on her own to model it after people who were upper class/wealthy in the city and developed a strange speaking pattern because of that. and then ofc apollonio de fiorelli (her Wildly abusive sire lmao) was adamant that she assimilate her accent entirely & speak in stiff, proper english. at that point her accent sounded american but with a couple british-sounding inflections on certain words for the illusion of being part of 'high society'. this was half to cover up the fact that they were kindred, half in response to the xenophobia they would have experienced as a heavily accented italian & greek, respectively. relaxed!katerina will slip back into a more natural sounding greek accent, though her use of contractions and certain pronouns will be inconsistent (ie instead of 'get in the car' it might be 'get in car,' not because greek doesnt have those pronouns, it's just a quicker translation in her head if she's not worried about paying attention)

she doesn't 'only' fall back into old speech/accent patterns around nines but that's probably when it comes out the most for sure because assuming they aren't in the middle of an argument about Vampire Politics TM, that's her most relaxed self. she also gets comfortable enough to throw in a few phrases and words from her native tongue here and there or mutter to herself in greek. (it's also the choice language of her road rage lmaooo she drives like she's playing gta thanks to her relative indestructibility and non existent fear of cops.) 

apollonio made the choice to assimilate for himself because it was advantageous but you can bet that once italian accents become sexy again he's easing up on how much he forces it. not a lot since i have to believe someone from the renaissance would speak differently than someone today, but yknow. katerina keeps it up because she feels that it helps hide her identity as a kindred and also at this point it's very second nature to her so there's no real struggle. she Does miss her 'real' voice sometimes, even when not using her american accent it's not the same as it was when she first got here. it's like she's lost a part of herself even if she's still very fluent in the language.

cancer / illness tw for this bullet yunjae didn’t win the fourth iteration of kpop star, but that was okay since he had already won the hearts of the south korean public. and they all knew his story. a boy who had always dreamed of being a singer but had spent most of his life in hospital beds, his illness baffling south korean doctors to the point that his family had to leave behind everything they owned or knew so that yunjae could meet the best doctors in america. when he was finally cured, he decided to follow his dreams as a music artist instead of following his peers’ footsteps into higher education. and that was that. it was a kpop industry ceo’s pr wet dream to sign him. it would have been a mistake not to at least try.

of all the contracts he was offered, yunjae chose so!ar’s. in return, so!ar chose yunjae’s stage name, naeil (meaning “tomorrow” in korean, strong brand image is everything), gave him a year of vocal training and fine tuned his song-writing and production skills. they held his hand through handcrafting his own debut single. “don’t forget” performed beautifully on the charts and in sales. and so they let him run loose after that. his first few releases were pretty tame, but have become more and more eclectic and experimental.

cancer / illness tw for this bullet he’s been cancer-free since he was 16, but still needs to take medication daily for his migraines and has a weakened immune system. and after eight years in remission and five years after his appearance on kpop star, he was finally begin to shed his title of pretty-good-male-r&b-artist-who-once-had-cancer, and just became pretty-good-male-r&b-artist. but writing song after song was beginning to take a toll on him, and in late 2018, what he thought was the common cold developed into severe pneumonia, and he was bed-ridden again. after being kept watch in a glass cage for a year, so!ar agreed to give him a comeback before the end of the year.

other hc’s

is fluent in english and his korean has a bit of an accent to it from his time spent in america (he went by eugene). he avidly follows the american music industry, and it tends to influence his own music. has a pretty substantial international following, and wants to eventually write an album just for that market.

yunjae is pretty blunt. like other idols, he was forced to grow up quickly, but for him it was because of how he was around adults for a lot of his formative years, and now as an adult it puts him in a weird place bc it used to be that he used to be unable to relate with kids but now the kids are adults and ?? it comes off as mysterious and charismatic, and variety show hosts adore him for the sound bites they’re able to pull from him. the media chalks it up to his artistic charm and his time in america, but that’s not really all it.

he also has,, a really dry sense of humor. he’s found that a lot of people walk on eggshells around him, so he tries to break the ice before it happens. his humor is also a lil morbid.

doesn’t drink at all. sober legend. it’s for health reasons.

comes alive when he performs/talks about music. he loves his craft, dude. also crush vc. so boy has pipes.

also,, can’t relate to the whole idol experience/struggle. he’s used to being able to pretty much produce and sing whatever he likes, and so!ar doesn’t force him to learn tricky choreographies due to his health. until now, his experience at so!ar has been pretty positive.

surgery / scar tw for this bullet his hair has been,, tamed (though screenshots still exist from his days on kpop star he had a mullet but not the sexy kind) but he still keeps it long in the back because of a surgery scar at the base of his skull he hasn’t seen it in years, and doesn’t really want to.

Interesting (?) things from comparing the sub of Cardcaptor Sakura to the dub PART 2

And yes when I’m finished the show I will make a comprehensive list regarding the stuff on gender/sexuality.

CURRENTLY DONE EPISODE 53!

-Okay there’s that little patch of episodes where everyone’s making those stuffed bears and giving them to the people they like, and i thought it was so fucking weird bc in the sub, Chiharu gives Yamazaki her bear and it’s implied that she wants him to name it after her bc she has a crush on him and it’s some kind of tradition. OKAY REMEMBER HOW WHEN I LAST DID ONE OF THESE I SAID THAT THERE WAS LITERALLY NO REASON FOR THE DUB TO MAKE THESE 2 COUSINS? Well what happens instead in the dub is that she gives him the bear and he does name it after her and she gets mad at him for that because...? IT’S REALLY WEIRD like i get that the dub is allergic to having these kids have innocent crushes on each other but this was a very odd way to mask this scene.

-Okay, in that same episode Li makes a bear with the intention to give it to Yukito, but then stops bc hang on he might actually have a crush on Sakura. Buuuuut since Li’s not allowed to have a crush on either of them, the dub does this really really weird thing where it introduces some bullshit conflict about how he feels useless and idk it’s literally the most forced thing in the whole dub, and that’s saying something.

-I love the episode with the puzzle hunt thing where Yukito just fuckin aces everything because in the dub they had to just outright say “yeah this symbol means star in japanese.” aHA, YOU HAVE SHOWN YOUR TRUE SELF.

-As far as my english speaking ears can tell, in the episode where Li and Kero switch bodies, they actually keep the same voice actors in the sub and people can just tell them apart due to their different accents/ways of speaking. I love this! And wish more cartoons would do it this way! Unfortunately, they both just have normal American accents in the dub, so they went the easier/more common route of switching the actors. I can’t blame them, but the other way was so great. Also, how did I completely forget this episode? Even when watching it it wasn’t jogging any memories. And it’s my favourite kids tv trope ever with the two best characters it could possibly happen with.

-Speaking of that episode, the dub sometimes just takes out jokes???? At the end of that episode, Li has a dream where everyone switches bodies, it freaks him out, and the punchline is him waking up. Completely cut. There’s a part at the start of that episode where Kero tells Li that they’ll have to hug it out to reverse the spell and there’s a build up that it’s gonna be something worse and that’s the joke. Completely cut. Another episode where the girls ask Li’s opinion on the romance movie they’re watching and he super awkwardly/hilariously walks out of the theatre. Completely cut. Why.

-Tbh I feel like the makers of the dub either hated Li or wanted to force him in to some weird archetype because they do not do him any favours. In the episode where Meilin tells the story of how he helped rescue her bird, they go out of their way to make him more unlikable? In the original episode, he acts kind of indifferently to her leaving Japan, she accuses him of thinking that she’s in the way, then she tells a story about how he was always super quiet and weird when they were kids but went to find her lost bird like a champ. Then at the end of the episode he says “I never thought you were in the way” and they fight the twin card by ripping off NGE with the in sync choreography. In the dub, Li does accuse Meilin of always being in the way, and in her story he wasn’t just quiet as a kid, but actively rude towards her. EVEN WHEN HE FINDS HER BIRD IN THE DUB HE’S LIKE “this better be the right bird!” BITCH I WATCHED THE SUB YOU DID THAT OUT OF THE GOODNESS OF YOUR TINY HEART SFJKGDLSKDJDJFH. Then after the story Meilin’s like “of course, he didn’t talk to me for another month after that.” PFFT FUCK YOU LI ALREADY GETS ROBBED OF SO MANY CUTE MOMENTS SINCE HE’S NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE A CRUSH ON ANYBODY WHY ARE YOU MAKING IT WORSE. 

-Side note: I really dislike it in anime subtitles where someone calls someone by their last name but the subs change it to the first name just because. I was watching it subbed illegally but then realized ADBLOCK WORKS ON CRUNCHYROLL!!!! But yeah it’s really distracting in the crunchyroll sub when I hear Sakura say “Li-kun” but the subtitles like “Xiaolong”. Also literally everyone uses “Syaoran” get with the times, crunchyroll.
