You've heard of Jurassic Park; now get ready for JURASSIC GALAXY

So BabyTea is really into his Baby's Big World Astronomy book right now, and can name all the planets as represented in the book, inform you that Uranus spins on its side, and that Venus is covered in clouds. He knows that Jupiter has a great red spot, that Earth is the only planet with oceans, and that Olympus Mons is bigger than TWO Mt. Everests. He also recognizes a galaxy on sight and seems to understand that we are but a tiny dot within a tiny dot within a tiny dot in that galaxy.

He also believes the galaxy is full of dinosaurs.

The dinosaurs, he knows, are not here on Earth. He has looked! No dinosaurs except pretend ones! Some very nice statues, lots of tiny toy dinosaurs, books about dinosaurs. But clearly dinosaurs are REAL, because there is consistency in representation! They show up all over the place, just like birds and poop! Birds and poop are definitely real. Therefore, dinosaurs are real. But not here. Dinosaurs are real in the REST of the Milky Way, and quite possibly in the Andromeda galaxy as well (which we have looked at pictures of). I have no idea what he thinks lives in the Horsehead Nebula, but I am eager to find out.

No Children

We have temporary neighbors in summer. They have two young boys, so I take Gamut over there to practice being a therapy dog and being read to (and interacting with children and socializing). This is extremely popular, in particular with the older boy, who is allergic to dogs but not to Gamut.

Today their dad asked me how long I've been married, and when told he asked if we were going to have kids. So I'm standing there trying to formulate a polite but truthful "None of your business" when the older boy pipes up, "Well I hope you don't."

This is an interesting take, especially from a child, so I inquire after his reasoning.

"I don't want your kids coming over here and messing up our lawn."

This is a fascinating take from an eight-year-old child, so I begin explaining to him the concept that I live a half mile or more away, so if I started a baby instantly, he would be twelve by the time it was able to walk this far and still have enough energy left over to mess up his lawn.

This abruptly derailed the conversation as the eight-year-old struggled with the concept of being twelve.

I love kids.

Thinking about a couple weeks ago where my family stopped in this little burger joint we like because it’s dog friendly and BabyTea started to have a meltdown. I changed them, offered food, rocked them, but nothing was working so I put them in their stroller to wait outside when BabyTea caught a glimpse of a tree branch swaying in the breeze. They fell silent and just lay there watching the leaves rustling in the wind for half an hour.
