Midnight Studio - Whumplist
Tumblr media
Summary: Struggling lawyer Han Bom (Kwon Nara) has fallen on hard times: She’s behind with her rent and can’t find any clients who will pay her. But might she enjoy better luck representing clients in the afterlife? After she meets a short-tempered photographer named Seo Ki Joo (Joo Won) and his clientele of disgruntled ghosts and restless spirits, her luck begins to change. Will this unusual duo’s new partnership prove a hit for the living...and the living dead?
**Description from VIKI, Show is a VIKI original**
Thoughts: I actually really enjoyed this drama. I feel like some pieces of it were never explained like his mother, and he only talked about his father once. Outside of that, the story was really entertaining and, as you can see, filled with whump. Joo Won is a great whumpee, and I would suggest watching Stealer: the treasure keeper or Alice if you want more whump from him. For this list I started paying attention to Baek Nam-gu around episode 7 but there is an ep early on that shows his death. I don't really count death as whump so I didn't add it.
Whumpees:

Immortal Being that Still Somehow has Parent Issues: Myul Mang/Doom (Doom at your Service) Lee Yeon & Lee Rang (Tale of the Nine Tailed) Jeong Gu-won (My Demon)
Added trauma flavour: Parent was murdered in front of them (**Still counts if they survived the murder Parent tried to murder them Dying from seemingly incurable disease which makes their parents/guardian sad (If your parents are alive, you must pay for it by dying yourself) Adoptive parent/stepparent is THE WORST
Somehow has normal, alive parents: Lee Jun-ho (Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Has no backstory at all. We only meet his older sister and hear nothing about his childhood.) Shin Ha-ri (Business Proposal, her family is refreshingly normal, right down to her brother being sent out to find her when she's drunk) Oh Han-byeol (Sh**ting Stars, Again, we know almost nothing about her family, only that she has twin sisters. But she doesn't appear to have childhood trauma.) Park Yeon-woo (The Story of Park's Marriage Contract, her mom being annoyed at her for something that is a crime doesn't count as bad parenting) Lee Young-joon/Sung-hyun (What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, his trauma comes from a kidnapper, his parents faced a pretty impossible situation and did their best. They clearly love their kids) Baek Hyun-woo (Queen of Tears, nothing wrong with them out of the ordinary and they are in the drama a significant amount.) Ha Eun-gyeol (Twinkling Watermelon, very loving parents and the deafness and their reliance on him is not anyone's fault)
*Counting her as an orphan even though she gets her parents back after 20 years, she spent her childhood orphaned. ***This character is tricky because I understand why her mother wanted nothing to do with her, but her trying to manipulate the dad and also saying he didn't raise her properly made me so angry. Uncatagorized due to lack of clarity on parents: Soundtrack #1, Hospital Playlist, Happiness

2022 kdrama/movie roundup!
It was a tough year for keeping up with anything because life, toddler, etc, but here are the things I watched, in part or whole, that I remembered. Hot Takes Incoming!
Sell Your Haunted House - Jang Nara in boots. Kang Mal-geum in dark lipstick. Touching, gay, many mother issues. The girls were fantastic. The boys weren't bad.
25 21 - I was dropped back into the 90s. Surprisingly, I didn't hate it. The girls were fantastic. Na Hee-do was correct to dump Baek Yi-jin. Moon Ji-woong, perfect boy. Ji Seung-wan for PRESIDENT!
Why Her? - Someone thought it'd be a great idea to throw Seo Hyun-jin's ex-client (shudder) current-student (TRIPLE SHUDDER) Hwang In-yeop into the romance mix when billionaire CHOI YOUNG-JOON and Crown Prince Bae In-hyuk were already there. And they thought it'd be funny if Hwang In-yeop won. NO.
Eve - The superior commentary this year on the horrors of capitalism. It ends with reparations (Park Byung-eun hands over his entire empire to Seo Yeji, who promptly divests it), rich people dying in horrible ways and Seo Yeji doing the tango. Were the makjang knobs dialled up so high they're broken? Yes. Was it fun? YES, because I got to see Park Byung-eun's range, which includes Pained Hottie, and Seo Yeji running men's feet over in cars wearing couture. We can ask for no more.
Juvenile Justice - No one asked "What happens if we take three of the most charismatic working actors in Korean entertainment today and squeezed the life out of them?" But someone answered anyway.
My Liberation Notes - Lee El, a revelation. Mr Gu, a revelation when he started talking, and not the good kind.
Grid - Kim Mu-yeol. Kim Ah-joong and Jang So-yeon had a great year. I didn't understand the time thing at all. This is a me problem, but probably the only time I'll face it this year. Right? RIGHT?
Bloody Heart - Jang Hyuk has done nothing wrong, ever. The girls were fantastic. Lee Joon, I heard your script was meant for Lee Joon-hyuk. Sorry.
Pachinko - The girls were fantastic. Kim Min-ha, baby, you're gorgeous. JUNG EUN-CHAE was everything. Sorry to Lee Min-ho, who had the tough double role of acting as Ko Hansu and also like he belonged to this cast of greats.
Our Blues - Great acting, but my own blues were sufficient for me. The girls were fantastic. Unwanted to wanted pregnancy storyline: no thanks. This is a me problem, but probably the only time I'll face it this year. Right? RIGHT?
Extraordinary Attorney Woo - 75% love; 25% NOT THIS AGAIN.
Little Women - The girls were fantastic. I ran out of air by this point in the year. I'll come back for you, gothic interior design, poison orchids, and Song Joong-ki in the best role he's played all year!
Through the Darkness - Almost too many twirling moustache psychos and dead girls. I did it for Kim Nam-gil because he's so pretty in this and in case it wasn't abundantly clear by now, I don't think with my brain. The lone living girl - Kim So-jin - was fantastic. Jin Seon-kyu, well-adjusted stealth hottie!
Reborn Rich - Samsung owes Lee Sung-min its entire semiconductor business as @rain-hat said. Lee Sung-min owes me reparations for making me watch this show for him primarily (secondarily Park Hyuk-kwon, Kim Shin-rok, Park Ji-hyun and Kim Nam-hee for their acting; Kim Young-jae because he is THE DILF). I'm manifesting NO TIMESLIPS in 2023 dramas.
Under the Queen's Umbrella - Kim Hye-soo pushing up her hanbok sleeves to carry babies and do embroidery should be projected onto my tombstone unto eternity. The girls were fantastic. And I know this is unusual, so bear with me, but: the boys? FANTASTIC ALSO.
Movies:
Vikram - Fahaadh Faasil, my thoughts are nasty and you don't want to hear them. The girls might have been fantastic had they been permitted to live and not be dumdums. That was never going to happen, of course. There was torture and a baby in significant peril, but it was also the most fun I'd had in a while. I should get my head checked.
Ponniyin Selvan - The sheer scale of work and sweat that has gone into the enterprise of making Vikram seem taller than Trisha Krishnan for the last twenty years! Iconic. The girls were fantastic.
The Naked Kitchen - This is sold as a story of a woman choosing between two men. That is a lie. It's about a man coming to terms with his marriage drifting into polyamory, and enjoying it. Shin Min-ah and Ju Ji-hoon fuck in a museum, which was also weirdly sweet.
Asura City of Madness - AHJUSSHIS WHY. Hwang Jung-min's shirttails worked very hard in 2012. Jung Woo-sung ate glass and has pathological issues about being as handsome as he is. We love him for it. We did not love this.
Hunt - Love is your bestie learning how to write and direct just to write and direct you in the role of a lifetime for you, personally. I don't know if that's what happened here, but that's what love is. And chemistry is whatever these two guys have in this completely ordinary movie that did not give any feelings. Hwang Jung-min, pussy OUT.
Decision to Leave - A well-deserved love letter to Tang Wei, just beautifully shot, gorgeous.
Il Mare - Absolutely lovely little film, reliant almost entirely on the star power of two actors who are so charismatic they don't need to meet in the movie to convince you of their romance.
Laal Singh Chaddha - There was a very beautiful wedding at the end. Aamir Khan's face must hurt.
Darlings - A movie that appreciated and respected noted hottie Shefali Shah.

Rambling About a Show (01/28/2023)
Tumblr media
⚠️SPOILER?!⚠️
I started this series on Saturday (01/21/2023) and finished it today.
It had a pretty interesting concept. Kim Tae-pyung being able to see people’s deaths when he looks into their eyes. Yet, when he meets Detective Seo Joon-young, he’s not able to see her death. This ability sound extremely exhausting to me.
As I watched this, the villain was revealed early on. Which is something I’m not used to, so I was a little surprised about it.  Jo Hyun Woo/ Gu Do-kyung chose to become the villain. Granted it didn’t help that 20 years prior to this he was told (at the orphanage he was at) that he would eventually commit suicide in front of a lot of police. Sadly, every choice of action from that moment up until the finale, leads up to that very moment. I probably shouldn’t sympathize with him because he did murder several people. However, seeing what he had been put through for years, made me feel for him. Doesn’t justify his actions. Nor do I condone any of them either. Like Seo Joon-young says maybe if he had someone who supported him and believed in him, things would have turned out differently, and they wouldn’t have had to meet again the way they did. I agree with her.
I also felt for Kim Tae-yung. He spent 20 years in isolation because of his “gift”. I say it like that because it seems more like a curse than a gift to me. The only company he had was Mr. Baek and Lawyer  Lee Yeon-hwa. He made this choice so that he wouldn’t have to see people’s deaths. Honestly, I would have made the same choice. The way he finds out why he can’t see Seo Joon-young’s death broke my heart. Because Mr. Baek had the same experience.
It sucks that Jo Pil-doo (Jo Hyun-woo’s father) was falsely accused as the Midnight Killer. That man spent 20 years in prison before it was discovered that  Kim Hyeong-Soo was the real culprit. Jo Hyun-woo did try to report him once, to Director Chief  Nam Woo-Hyun. And of course the Nam Woo-hyun thought it was a prank call and didn’t think much of it. I feel like it was that moment that influenced Jo Hyun-woo to make all the choices he made. I say influence, because I don’t feel it’s right to blame someone for how someone else reacted to their actions or words. At first all the blame was towards Kim Tae-pyung. In the end, Jo Hyun-woo confesses to everything and takes accountability for his actions.

A Guide To Proper Dating (Romance 101) Dream Cast <3
i’ve actually been thinking about this for a really really long time, what if A Guide To Proper Dating gets adapted into a kdrama? ((i’d drop big money to see that pls)) i came up with a list of actors i’d like to see in the drama!
Jung Bareum - Kim Yoojung
Tumblr media
i had to think so much for this one and i literally wanted bae suzy for this but i’ve never seen her in any college student roles,, and HHH IDK i just felt like kim yoojung would be able to portray her very well too. since bareum has been described as small and cute many times i think kim yoojung fits very very well!! she’s obviously an amazing actress and i think i have loved every drama that i have watched with her in it?? if they do ever end up making a kdrama adaptation of this manhwa i’d pray to see her as bareum.
Na Yuyeon - Lee Dohyun
Tumblr media
for yuyeon i had to think about every kdrama i have watched and go through lists of actors :””) but as soon as i saw dohyun i had a eureka moment of sorts sjsdnsj,, i was lke “WHY DID I NOT THINK OF HIM BEFORE??”. even though i have only watched two shows with him in it (hotel del luna and 18 again) i feel very sure he’d be perfect for the role. i can just see him trying to be chic and indifferent whilst simultaneously losing his shit just like yuyeon.
Shin Jaehyun - Cha Eunwoo
Tumblr media
i lowkey feel like eunwoo has done a lot of cold-tsundere-guy roles so it’d be nice to see him play a sweet second lead!! he also has that sincere look similar to shin jaehyun :) this would not only prevent him from getting typecasted, i also think he’d play a sweet character very well.
Kang Doeun - Park Gyuyoung
Tumblr media
at first i was confused between her and seol inah, and i also thought that she looked a lot like bareum in her role as nam juri in Its Okay To Not Be Okay, but i think her bareum is more of a cutesy character and she’d play a more elegant/mature character like doeun better!
Junhyeok - Kim Kangmin
Tumblr media
to be honest i have only seen one kdrama with him in it (The Tale of the Nine Tailed Fox) and he played a minor role, but i still really enjoyed his performance!! i think he’d be perfect as junhyeok.
Gu Areum - Seol Inah
Tumblr media
i miiight be biased because this woman is my one true love BUT!!!! LOOK AT HER!!! especially in this picture, with the bangs. she looks exactly like ahreum. she also has that sincere/responsible and kind of elegant look so if they ever make a kdrama adaptation i’d pay to see her as ahreum
Park Hanam - Yoo Youngjae
Tumblr media
i was watching mr. queen very recently and his character of kim hwan really reminded me of hanam!! not to mention hanam looks a lot like yyj with light coloured hair :3
Hong Narae - Kim Ji-in
Tumblr media
i dislike this character so much pls why is she so bothered by bareum 😭 for some reason when i looked at this character i thought she either kinda looked like baek soomin or kim ji-in. i decided for kim ji’in at the end,, maybe because i’m more familiar with her face? idk!! but im sure she’ll do justice to this character.
okay, this is it!! thank you for reading this far :) i have only read the manhwa till episode 21 (since i’m reading it on webtoon) but i’ll keep making updated lists as the manhwa progresses :D

2020 End of Year Post - kdrama edition
You can find my 2020 cdrama post here: dangermousie.tumblr.com/post/638449659546845184/2020-end-of-year-post-cdrama-edition
This is only going to cover kdramas that aired in 2020; if it originally aired another year, it’s not on this list.
It’s been a pretty lackluster kdrama year. There are probably only 5 kdramas I truly loved and only three of them I was really obsessed over. Better luck in 2021!
DRAMAS WATCHED
(In order of liking from least to most as opposed to pure quality; I am including if I’ve seen enough to make up my mind; yes I realize that’s inaccurate, but that’s my list)
42 Born Again - so bad, so incoherent, so insane, I have no idea why the leads signed up for it (and unlike some of the other watchers, I think it was awful from the very start.) There is literally nothing about this drama that makes sense.
41 Love with Flaws - a bunch of people who should be tried under the Geneva Convention.
40 Sweet Munchies - Jung Il Woo proves his inability to pick a functional script.
39 Meow the Secret Boy - if you ever wanted to bang a cat, this drama is for you. Not being a furry, however...
38 Do Do Sol Sol La Sol - I lost braincells just typing out this title.
37 When I Was the Most Beautiful - the only way it’s not the dumbest, most pointless melo of 2020 is because Born Again considerately came out the same year.
36 Woman of 9.9 Billion - if you want to watch an artsy French movie about miserable people, but only badly made, boy do I have a drama for you.
35 Lies after Lies - screams after screams.
34 Backstreet Rookie - people were up in arms about various problematic plots. I am a survivor of many plots much more problematic but even I couldn’t survive how utterly boring and annoying this drama was and how utterly irritating the leads were. This has taken Ji Chang Wook off my top favorites into “should I even check his latest Lovestruck in the City? Probably not” territory almost single-handedly (Melt Me helped, to be fair.)
33 Men Are Men - boring is boring.
32 Dinner Mate - two beautiful boring people eat out a lot.
31 Was It Love - no it wasn’t.
30 Alice - Joo Won in the shower can make up for a multitude of sins but not plot nonsense of such magnitude. When you find yourself thinking it would be better if he hooked up with the alternate universe version of his mother because at least then something entertaining would happen, you know it’s bad.
29 More than Friends - started out OK, then made me hate basically everyone and kept going.
28 Start-Up - honestly, it’s probably more decent than its place here, but the toxic and batshit fandom for it (the worst this year) made me feel like breaking out in hives any time it’s even mentioned.
27 The Spies who Loved Me - how to take a good cast and waste it.
26 Private Lives - it was good but it never took off with its concept and spent more time on the incoherent plot than the OTP which was its one strength. It’s a decent drama but coming after Heartless City and My Beautiful Bride from the same writer, it’s a disappointment.
25 Record of Youth - as high as it is due to Park Bo Gum hard carrying this entire awful drama on his shoulders and doing it so well I finished it. Alas, while he is in one drama (and that drama is great), the rest of the characters and the entirety of the script are a pointless useless mess.
24 Do You Like Brahms - excellent first third, mediocre middle, and terrible last third. I don’t know what musical term applies to this? Diminuendo, I think.
23 I’ll Go to You When the Weather is Nice - nice and mellow but nothing much happens.
22 Forest - mainly for Park Hae Jin’s excellent and frequently naked bod.
21 The Ballot - I didn’t love it as much as everyone did but it was well-made.
20 Hyena - more romance and less weird law stuff would make it better.
19 365 Repeat the Year - surprisingly solid.
18 The Game Towards Zero - see 365.
17 When My Love Blooms - very old fashioned, very lovely.
16 Chocolate - also very old fashioned and very lovely but also with Yoon Kye Sang performing medical procedures bleeding and shirtless. MMM.
15 (tie) Secret Royal Inspector - a fun if run of the mill sageuk.
15 Find Me In Your Memory - best melo this year.
14 Mystic Pop Up Bar - surprisingly good even though I wasn’t planning to check it out.
13 Where Your Eyes Linger - came out of nowhere but was tender and hopeful and lovely.
12 Itaewon Class - Park Seo Joon hard carries a drama that is already excellent. Love it.
11 Psychopath Diary - Yoon Shi Yoon is such a treat in a hilarious, cynical, dark comedy.
10 Kairos - more like ouroboros.
9 Queen Love and War - in a year where sageuks are very rare, this was solid and surprisingly moving and shippy.
8 The King Eternal Monarch - people didn’t like it but I did. It’s no masterpiece and both the leads and the writers have better dramas, but it was a lovely romantic fairy tale for me.
7 Mr. Queen - sharp, hilarious, and some of my favorite actors.
6 Psycho But It’s OK - healing, sharp cinematography and even sharper chemistry.
5 Crash Landing on You - the last ep pissed me off so much this drama is dead to me but I loved it so much until then I can’t place it lower in good conscience.
4 Train - who knew I would go this hard for an OCN drama or that OCN would do romance so well? But this time-travel mystery romance is just incredible and I shipped the OTP and rooted for the characters and loved every last bit of it.
3 Run On - this is the drama Record of Youth wanted to be but failed. Smart and lived in, you feel like you are peeking at real people, but also even four episodes in, I am so invested in the main characters separately and together, and care for them so much, it’s a little frightening.
1 (tie) Tale of the Nine Tailed - my perfect fantasy romance. I liked it better than Goblin, yeah I said it.
1 Flower of Evil - all the tropes I love in one incredible package. I would rewatch episodes waiting for new ones trying to puzzle the story and to stay withdrawal but it works just as well on rewatch. Lee Jun Ki brings his trademark tortured intensity and for once, both his leading lady and his script back him up and are worthy of that. It’s perfect.
FAVORITE DRAMA
It’s a tie between Tale of the Nine Tailed and Flower of Evil but if I had to pick just one, FoE, because it had me seriously obsessed and guessing about the protagonist and gave me the narrative tropes I love so much and an OTP that statisfied all my hurt/comfort kinks and then some.
WORST DRAMA
Born Again - honestly, this is so bonkers it almost becomes good but alas...
FAVORITE MALE CHARACTER
Do Hyun Soo/Baek Hee Sung, Flower of Evil - he is so messed up, so on edge, so traumatized. Yet capable of so much warmth and caring even as he himself doesn’t realize his humanity. FoE is basically a story of a man pushed and punished by the world for his entire life who, because of one woman, finds a safe place and peace and slowly comes to life without realizing it, and watching his desperation to keep this small bit of normalcy is so heartbreaking and exciting all at once. Plus, you start the drama thinking he’s a psychopathic serial killer and end it (if you are me) thinking he must be protected at all costs and if anyone even looks at him wrong they must suffer, and that’s quite a change!
FAVORITE FEMALE CHARACTER
Nam Ji Ah, Tale of the Nine Tailed - she is so funny and tough and smart and loving and amazing that I will totally buy that a literal demi-god will do anything and everything for her and love her for literal eternity.
NEEDS TO BE MURDERED
Dad in Record of Youth - yes in a year with serial killers and supernatural demons, I picked a normal character from a mediocre drama. It’s his everyday awfulness to his family that hits so hard and I am sad he never got his comeuppance.
FAVORITE SHIP
Ji Ah x Yeon - a fearless reporter and an immortal demi-god who’s been hoping for his human beloved to reincarnate. A really rare set-up where the OTP is equally ride or die, so compatible and completely BAMF. I got why he waited for her for that long and then fell in love with her all over again. Perfection.
Runner up: Flower of Evil - he is so messed up he literally does not believe he is capable of love or empathy, but he falls in love with her anyway and so utterly she permeates his entire life. She is tough as nails and only believes what she sees and is the sole person who believes in him against the world. She loves him but he needs her. She needs him but he loves her. They are amazing.
FAVORITE SECONDARY OTP
Seo Dan x Gu Seung Jun, Crash Landing on You, North Korean x Conman were so good I shipped them harder than the main OTP and the end of that storyline pissed me off so much I dumped the drama and didn’t finish it for months (and it’s still dead to me.)
NOTP
Record of Youth - it started out and they didn’t have much chemistry but the dialogues were interesting and I thought the chemistry would grow. It didn’t and deteriorated, their dialogues became boring and relationship had zero development (about as much as the supposed female lead.) I think we were supposed to feel bad they broke up and they were going for a bittersweet open ending, instead I found myself happy about the break up of two incompatible, chemistry-less people and hoping for the love of God they never get back together.
FAVORITE SCENE
Yeon and the bridge of knives, Tale of the Nine Tailed - Yeon choosing to undergo the creeptastic bridge of knives for a chance to save Ji Ah, who at that point he is not aware is the reincarnation of his Joseon love because, as he says, he doesn’t care if she is or isn’t, it just would be more horrible to have her die than to undergo the horrific torture he is undergoing, and then the sequence with his catching her, her weeping over him and the fact that she is the original Joseon girl revealed and all the bandaging and his watching her sleep and all that loveliness, is everything for yours truly.
Runner up: Hyun Soo having that break-down at the cliff at the end of ep 15 of Flower of Evil as Ji Won desperately tries to convince him she is alive and he finally stumbles to her.
Runner runner up (it’s my list, I will do what I want): Do Won preparing to blow his brains out to give a chance to Seo Kyung to live in Train.
BIGGEST CRUSH
Seon-Gyeom, Run On. Yeah, I know. Im Siwan is tiny, delicate featured and has a runner’s build, none of which are things that normally appeal to me. But his character is so odd, so honest, so unflinching in pursuing what he thinks is right, so incapable of self-pity despite plenty of reasons for it, and so ridiculously attractive when he smiles, I don’t even care.
BEST SCENE STEALER CHARACTER
Kim Bum, TotNT - I started out being annoyed by him and ended up looking forward to his scenes and being distraught by his ending.
NEEDS A SEQUEL
Honestly, none. I was fine with all the endings. I wouldn’t mind seeing post-end life of Tale of the Nine Tailed characters or the OTP settling into their literal new world in Train, but I am good.
TROPE THAT NEEDS TO DIE
Time jump that solves all the problems off screen or alternatively years pass and everyone is frozen - something that kdramas need to learn and need to learn badly. See Record of Youth, Brahms and Start Up.
FAVORITE TROPE WE’VE SEEN A LOT OF
Men who are ride or die for their OTP - this was a great year for this - the male leads of four of my five dramas were beyond anything on that scale (only exception is Run On because it’s still too early to tell there.) Yes PLEASE.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT
This was a banner year for that what with Start Up, Do You Like Brahms, Record of Youth, and Private Lives all starting out well and nosediving off the cliff but winner is Crash Landing on You. I loved it so much for bulk of its run but the last episode pissed me off so much I deleted all my files and called it a day.
BIGGEST GOOD SURPRISE
Flower of Evil - I had no expectations of this drama and wasn’t even planning on watching it despite liking both the lead actors because yet another “look at evil serial killer be evil” drama with no romance was not my thing. Luckily someone convinced me there might be some romance and I peeked curiously. Honestly, their promo campaign was the most misleading and dumbest thing ever.
Runner up Psycho but it’s OK - I have never liked Kim Soo Hyun in anything before and the drama premise seemed WTF but it was shockingly good and KSH totally blew me away.
Hardest Working Lead
Yoon Shi Yoon - he starred in two (!!!) dramas in 2020 playing three characters and not only were both these dramas awesome in a lackluster year, but if it wasn’t for the fact that I knew it was the same actor and the fact that the characters shared a face, I would have never believed that they were played by the same actor. So good!
2020 DRAMAS I HAVEN’T SEEN THAT I MOST WANT TO WATCH
None. Covid Year gave me PLENTY of time
BEST NON-2020 DRAMA I’VE WATCHED IN 2020
My Beautiful Bride and Deserving of the Name - I was obsessed with both of them and honestly, they were much better than the bulk of 2020 kdramas I watched.
MOST ANTICIPATED IN 2021
The Moon That Rises in the Day, Hong Chun Gi, Joseon Exorcist, Island,  Frightening Cohabitation, Snowdrop.

K-dramas have a theme for about anything a viewer is looking for. There are suspense, dramas, thrillers, and highly popular love stories. Some may not want to admit it, but love stories involving falling in love with the boss is a guilty pleasure.
RELATED: 10 Best Time Travel K-Dramas, Ranked (According To IMDb)
Maybe it involves the shy new girl who catches the eye of the handsome and rich CEO. In some cases, the power play is reversed. Regardless, K-dramas have a way of hooking in audiences with their dynamic storylines. If looking for some new K-dramas to add to your roster of must-watch, look no further. Here's a list to get you started.
Updated on April 22nd, 2021, by Gabriela Silva: There's a storyline for every K-drama fan to enjoy from thrillers and the supernatural to unique romances. To add a level of intrigue to a love story what better way than to center it around the blossoming love of a worker and their boss. K-dramas are no stranger to the storyline theme and are quite popular. It's a fairytale story that fans wish happened in real life.
15 Oh My Ghost (2015)
Tumblr media
Oh My Ghost is one of the most recognized supernatural dramas. It focuses on three main characters and the main love story is between a young woman and her boss who's a famous chef. There's a catch. Na Bong-Sun (Park Bo-Young) is shy and timid and has a huge crush on her boss. She can also see spirits.
One day, she's possessed by a young lustful female spirit who believes the only way to go to the afterlife is by losing her virginity. Being the puppet of the ghost, Bong-Sun now becomes a firecracker and confident woman who catches her boss's eye.
14 Radiant Office (2017)
Tumblr media
The 2017 drama, Radiant Office has multiple elements that make it a fun boss-employee storyline. Eun Ho-Won (Go Ah-Sung) is down on her luck looking for work and attempts suicide. At the hospital, she learns she terminally ill but succeeds at landing a job.
With a new purpose in life, Ho-Won takes on her new job with full force. Her superior and boss, Seo Woo-Jin (Ha Seok-Jin) thinks she's a huge pain in the neck and often bickers. Their odd relationship might just turn into something more.
13 Protect The Boss (2011)
Tumblr media
This K-drama doesn't have the typical boss characteristics seen in other shows. Protect the Boss centers around Cha Ji-Heon (Ji Sung), a childish director at DN Group. He soon meets his match in his new secretary, Noh Eun-Seol (Choi Kang-Hee).
Eun-Seol is determined to not lose her first professional job and gives it her all. Her kind and spunky demeanor start to attract Ji-Heon. That's not all, the drama has a love triangle between Ji-Heon and his rival and cousin, Cha MuWwon (Kim Jae-Joong).
12 Master's Sun (2013)
Tumblr media
Master's Sun is another K-drama with a supernatural base. Tae Kong-Shil (Gong Hyo-Jin) gains the ability to see ghosts after a bizarre accident. Her abilities leave her unable to keep a solid job. Kong-Shil works as a cleaning lady at Kingdom's, a conglomerate company, shopping mall.
She soon meets the company's cold and distant CEO, Joo Joong-Won (So Ji-Sub). In a turn of events, whenever Long-Shil touches Joong-Won, the ghosts disappear. After some begging, Joong-Won stays by her side in return for her help in recovering something stolen from him.
11 Jugglers (2017)
Tumblr media
2017 was a good year to binge-watch multiple boss-employee relationship K-dramas. Jugglers followed the trend and revolved around a secretary and her cold as ice boss. Jwa Yoon-Yi (Baek Jin-Hee) is a devoted and diligent secretary whose put on hold when her boss's wife accuses her of having an affair with her husband.
On the other end, Nam Chi-Won (Daniel Choi) is assigned to be the managing director at Yoon-Yi's company. Yoon-Yi becomes his secretary. Chi-Won suffers from childhood trauma and is indifferent to socializing. After Yoon-Yi gets drunk at a dinner party, Chi-Won takes her home and realizes she lives in the place where his trauma originated. Seeing the 'tenant wanted' sign on her door, he becomes her neighbor to overcome his past.
10 My Secret Romance (2017)
Tumblr media
What happens when you meet your one-night stand three years later? To make matters worse he happens to be your new boss. Lee Yoo-Mi (Song Ji-Eun) is insecure about herself but has to attend her mother's weddings. She meets Cha Jin-Wook (Sung Hoon). They're less than cordial with one another but soon start to feel an attraction and spend the night.
Yoo-mi is unaware of who he really is and flees the following morning. Years later she is hired to be his nutritionist. Jin-Wook changed his ways after that night and takes over his father's company and never forgot Yoo-mi. He tries to romance her and get to admit her feelings for him. Interwoven is a storyline involving Yoo-mi's baby brother that is blown out of proportion on who the father is.
9 Rich Man (2018)
Tumblr media
Rich Man might also be known for its original Japanese television drama version, Rich Man, Poor Woman. The K-drama was a 2018 remake that did well on television. The show takes an interesting route with the main male character. The CEO of a popular IT company has a facial recognition disability.
This has caused him the inability to recognize his first love. At an employee recruitment meeting, he picks on a particular girl with photogenic memory. She stands up to the mean CEO and says something that catches his interest. She ends up working for the company and helping the CEO.
8 Strong Girl Bong-soon (2017)
Tumblr media
Strong Girl Bong-Soon is a highly popular K-drama and has a lot of the same characteristics of an employee falling in love with their boss. A young girl is born with unexplainable superhuman strength. It's more of a family trait. This leads to an intriguing storyline.
After beating up some bullies, she is hired by a rich CEO of a gaming company. While having a crush on her friend, she starts to realize who she really has feelings for. All while protecting her CEO from a possible threat and kidnapper.
7 My Shy Boss (2017)
Tumblr media
Sometimes opposites attract in the most bizarre way possible. My Shy Boss or Introverted Boss follows the tumultuous relationship between a CEO and his new employee. The CEO of a public relations firm is the exact opposite of what one expects.

He's highly introverted, shy, sensitive, and can come off as cold. On the other hand, the company hires a new employee who is extroverted, loud, and not afraid to speak her mind. She takes an interest in the CEO and wants to uncover who he really is under his hood.
6 Lucky Romance (2016)
Tumblr media
Audiences will surely have a good laugh with this K-drama with its peculiar antics. In Lucky Romance, a 26-year-old attractive woman is highly superstitious believing she was born unlucky. She follows every precaution possible and consults a shaman about her sister. The only way to save her? She has to sleep with a man born in the year of the tiger.
She soon meets a CEO and genius game developer. Who happens to fit her criteria. Their personalities clash, but Shim Bo-Nui (Hwang Jung-Eum) is determined to see save her sister even if it means wooing her boss.
5 Level Up (2019)
Tumblr media
Level Up follows a lot of the typical boss-employee storyline details; mixed in with some drama. This CEO specializes in helping reconstruct failing companies. He takes on a company called Joybuster despite his previous childhood trauma with gaming.
As the new CEO of the company, he soon meets its head designer. A passionate and sweet young woman clashes heads with a cold and meticulous boss. Will they put their differences aside and complete their new game and maybe fall in love?
4  Hotel Del Luna (2019)
Tumblr media
Hotel Del Luna is a fan favorite amongst K-dramas. It mixes the supernatural with some dramatic romance. Jang Man-Wol (Lee Ji-Eun) is moody and bad-tempered for having to run Hotel Del Luna for the past thousands of years. She must atone for her indiscretions and change her attitude.
The hotel is only visible to souls, ghosts, and humans at special times of the year. Things heat up when the hotel gets a new general manager due to a contract signed by his father. Gu Chan-sung (Yeo Jin-goo) is a stoic MBA graduate who has to confront his fear of ghosts. He soon changes his demeanor and helps melt Man-Wol's heart and keep her safe.
3 She Was Pretty (2015)
Tumblr media
She Was Pretty is a fun roller coaster ride for anyone who watches. Fans of Parasite will recall the lead actor in this drama.  Two childhood friends grow up on the opposite ends of the spectrum for both success and looks. Kim Hye-jin (Hwang Jung-Eum) ended up having her father's red cheeks and frizzy hair, while Ji Sung-Joon (Park Seo-Joon) becomes a strikingly handsome man.

Amrine House testimony nightmares
Severe triggering warning for any Unification Church members who grew up in the DC area. Today I interviewed Natalia, who recalls a testimony that she never forgot. We name the cult within a cult that Rev. Moon kept as his close inner circle. These accounts were documented by multiple members and can be found on How well do you know your moon. 01:13:02
Sexual abuse allegedly took place at a house in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The Amrine house, a view from outside
In this episode I interview John Wayne Robbins, a man with a bird’s eye view of Mr. Moon, the Amrine house and the cycle of violence within the Unification Church. Trigger warning – I cried during this interview. So be safe and comfortable when you listen to this one. We gather more evidence of the insidious nature at the core of the Unification movement. Here is the story of Mr. Sun Myung Moon deceiving America. By sharing our stories, a more dynamic understanding of the Unification movement is unfolding, and I promise you, it is rotten to the core. 01:12:02

Sun Myung Moon had sex with the “Wife of Jehovah”
Moon called Pak Wol-yong “the wife of Jehovah.” He referred to her many times in his Korean Malssum speeches.
Choe Joong-Hyun 1993 PhD thesis: “Sources give us four different given names of this old woman: Unnae (Malssum 33:134). Ullyong (Ok Se-hyun 1984:320-321), Ullo (Chong Deuk-eun 1958:5), and Wolyong (T’ak Myeong-hwan 1979:56). But here we choose to use “Wolyong” which sounds more natural and familiar as a female Korean name than the other three.”

from Sun Myung Moon’s life in his own words “In three stages, women had to prepare the heavenly providence. Why? Because Eve fell first, God had to call women first so they would be aware of how the Lord would come. Three generations had to prepare those providential activities. In those days, there was great confusion. As you know, going from Mrs. Kim Seong-do to Mrs. Heo Ho-bin and on from there, covered three generations. Thus, the course passing through Mrs. Kim Seong-do, Mrs. Heo Ho-bin and Pak Nopa [Pak Wol-yong] – the lady who claimed to be the wife of Jehovah – followed the women’s work. Pastors Baek Nam-ju, Lee Yong-do and Kim Baek-moon led the work being done by the men.”

Re: Unauthorized spiritual group in our movement
Date: October 09, 2000 We pray for God's blessing on all of your hard work.
1. We would like to inform you of an unauthorized spiritual group that leads members astray from the legitimate tradition of faith centered on True Parents and distorts the meaning of the providence. Leaders in all levels must give members the right guidance. Unauthorized Spiritual Group and their Members:
Belongs to the Washington Korean Church (KEA) 1. Jae-Soon Choi (Ju Yeon Amrine)
 2. Do-Soon Cha (Do Soon Maketa)
3. Chung-Ok Kim (Mi Sun Sices)
 4. Kyung-Soon Yoo (Kyung Soon Garau)
 5. Sun-Hwa Park (Sun Ah Berry)
 6. Hyung-Joong Yoon (Hyung Joong Reddin)
 7. Myra Stanecki
2. True Parents Direction: True Father spoke strongly against the spiritual phenomena involving those people mentioned above on September 23, during the 21-day registration workshop. Father refused to allow them to participate in the Four Position Foundation Registration Blessing Ceremony at that time. Chung Hwan Kwak, IIFWP International President Sun Jo Hwang, FFWPU International President Jeung Og Yu, FFWPU Japanese Chairman Chang Shik Yang, FFWPU North American Continental Director

“If you really want to please True Father then have sex with your spouse in front of him.”
One wife from the 36 couples said this to Japanese members at a Cheongpyeong workshop in the 1990s.
Tumblr media
▲ Three couples at the 72 couple mass wedding
When Sun Myung Moon was conducting the 72 couple mass wedding, he became too tired to womb cleanse the wife of Hyo-min Eu. Moon told Mr. Eu to have sex with his wife in front of him and that would be sufficient for them to be a purified couple. There was at least one other person in the room. It may have been Hak Ja Han. This was Hyo-min Eu’s own testimony.
An official church record: “The 72 couple Holy Wedding was held on June 4, 1962. Couples entered the hall in sets of three, and separate ceremonies were held for each set. As the couples entered, a congratulatory poem and song were offered, wedding vows were recited and rings were exchanged. Reverend and Mrs. Moon’s blessing prayer followed, and finally, commemorative photographs were taken. A one hour intermission was held after eight sets of couples had participated in the ceremony. The entire marriage ceremony was completed at 5:30 p.m., more than eleven hours after it had begun!”
About 10 of the 36 couples had left the UC by the 1980s. The Hyo-min Eu couple, and others, were promoted to be in the 36 couples to fill the gaps.
Sex in front of Sun Myung Moon and Hak Ja Han happens in a symbolic way during the “Three Day Ceremony” which must be done in front of a photograph of Sun Myung Moon and Hak Ja Han. In the official instructions, it is optional to have “two cushions to designate the places of True Parents” so that they can have greater presence in the room.

Ship your moots with an idol !
omg i never got an ask like this before EVER omg this is soo exciting!!!!! sorry for being so late with this, I've been working on this ask ever since I got it! my life has been havoc for months so my mind really isn't the right place butttt lets start!!!!
I tried to diversify the idols mentioned and I hope you guys like the idols I chose for you :3
1. @todeobi as Mina from Twice! Honestly Gus was my first friend/moot on tumblr and she really gives a cute, soft spoken, adorable and caring vibe like Mina! Mina is too cute, too sweet and she gives me sweater-paws vibes, and that's exactly how I see Gus too! <3  Gus is also pretty soft-spoken but she always manages to convey her feelings and concern, no matter what. I also feel like Mina is the same, she may seem quiet, but in reality she shows her caring! side quite often to the members so yeah Also Gus also kinddd of has a duality about her, and Mina’s duality on stage is just WOW so yeah :3
2. @juyeonzz as Jimin from BTS! From whatever interactions I’ve had with Qiu, she really gives me those perfectionist, DOWN WITH CAPITALISM, yet those soft uwu please plant me soft kisses on my forehead or else I will scream vibes LOL hahaha (omg please don't take this seriously lmaoo) and I thought this perfectly equates her to Jimin!! Why I say this is because Jimin is also a perfectionist, he strives hard in whatever he does and often faces the repercussions of that. But his efforts and inborn talent really shine in the process! So like for qiu, she really tries her best in writing and her college work too!! also jimin can be very vocal about what he's thinking if he wants but at the same time there's no one softer than him :( So yeah, qiu reminds me most of jimin!!
3. @hwqll as Baekhyun from EXO! I just have an overall feeling that Han here gives me Baekhyun vibes cause she's cool and fun and super funny and soo chaotic at the same time!! That's how I envision Baek too, cause omg if you've seen his pre debut videos of him flipping inside a room full of his friends and being obssessed with the light switch????? Han gives those sweet yet SOO chaotic vibes and I love her for it and we STAN also not how baek looks like a cat and I envision han to also look like a CAT sooo-
4. @kachulein as Joy from Red Velvet!
ok but KACHU IS SUCH A SOFTIE CUTIE and our wavelengths match so much that like I'm sad :((( she's so joyful and is so soft and very adorable, so I couldn't help but pictures Joy in my head. Joy's smile is filled with purity and love and when I tried to associate Kachu to an idol, filled with softness and kindness and then friendly vibes, I thought joy would be a perfect fit!! Joy herself is bubbly and cute and so adorable Jesus Christ, so I thought Kachu and Joy would be a perfect match <3
5. @wenjunuwu as Ryujin from Itzy!
Gayatri gives me these cool girl, bitch better have my money type vibes ngl  LMAOOO I know how soft and sensitive she is but still haha I just see her as this super cool girl that I'm so lucky to be friends with! Also I really love how she's so consistent and always responds under any post I make, such a thoughtful bby!! And as much as I know about Ryujin, she's everyone favourite in the group even if you don't stan itzy lol. So I believe knowing how chill and relaxed, at the same time sensitive Gayatri is she makes me think of Ryujin a lottt. And I kind of think she has many friends or is everyone's favourite in the circle she's in so :) 6. @chaoticdeobi as Youngjae from GOT7!
OMGGGG BEA :( honestly I haven't come across someone as nice and sweet and endearing and sooo sweet and adorable and SOFT™️ like her!! Whenever I see her replying to asks or replying to my asks or anything, I just imagine her having this soft giggle and just being so babie and soft and all that wholesome shizz. Youngjae is my bias in got7 for that a reason and that's because he's all about that cute and soft agenda!! Super giggly and always smiling and having fun, I love it when he's always the "MWEOHYA????" in a loud voice all the time cause he seriously doesn't know what's goin on and just laughs his way through LMAOOOO I love him. So yes!!! Bea reminds me of soft and sweet Choi Youngjae! (psst bea I love your writing too <3) 7. @flytomyparadise as Chungha! So I feel like Ywan is such a good conversationalist! Like she's got a great vibe and I really like speaking to her, and she's so chill as well. I saw Eric Nam's podcast on Chungha and haven't seen any idol with more of a chill, yet friendly vibe like her before! And I love how Chungha is able to connect with her fans and the people around her readily, and I thought Ywan is perhaps the same when I think about her!!
Sooo that comes the end of my list!! I was like, writing all my emotions into blocks so you might not understand parts cause was just pouring out my love and appreciation really fast LOL. Buuut I hope you guys liked it :)

ALMOST PARADIIIIIIIIIISE! LOVE IS THE MOMEEEEEENT!
Extraordinary You makes, in an endearing way, awesome fun of the stereotypical tropes in kdramas, particularly BOF/HYD and The Heirs and it’s no surprise why considering these two are basically the cornucopia of romantic tropes and contain them all, starting with the fact that the guy who ends up being called the female lead’s guardian angel never EVER gets the girl. I love the intentional visual similarities including the shots of the school campus, arrival of expensive cars, the entrance of the male lead squad basked in celestial light, the “accidental” fall&kiss; even the bitchy trio is styled similarly to their counterparts in BOF. The drama even takes a shot at the overuse of product placement with the awesome parody of the ever-present yogurt PP.
You could even generalize that Oh Nam Joo is a mix of Gu Jun Pyo and Kim Tan, Lee Do Hwa is Hanazawa Rui without Asperger’s and Baek Young is Choi Yeong Do without the vicious streak. Real kdrama addicts even notice that Baek Young’s dad is played by Choi Jin Ho, the same actor who played Yeong Do’s father in The Heirs and that both fathers have the exact same domineering personality and treat their sons in a similar dismissive way. However, that’s where the similarities end because all three of them, particularly Lee Do Hwa and Baek Young are wonderfully fleshed out characters with individual personalities which is admirable since they are actually supportive characters in this show and we are only 2 episodes in.
