Google has launched "Bard", a new chatbot tool aimed at competing with OpenAI's popular ChatGPT. CEO of Google and Alphabet, Sundar Pichai, stated in a blog post that Bard will be initially tested by "trusted testers" and will be made available to the public in the near future. Like ChatGPT, Bard is based on a large language model, which utilizes vast amounts of online data to generate answers to user prompts. Pichai said Bard combines the knowledge of the world with the intelligence of large language models and provides fresh and high-quality responses.

Google's core product, online search, is reportedly facing its biggest threat in years, with ChatGPT receiving significant attention since its public release two months ago. The tool has been used to write essays, stories, song lyrics and to answer questions that would previously have been searched for on Google.

Microsoft has already expressed its plans to integrate ChatGPT into some of its products and rumors suggest it may also be integrated into Bing, its search engine. Meanwhile, Google's AI-powered tools will soon be incorporated into its search tool. Pichai says these AI-powered features will simplify complex information and multiple perspectives into an easy-to-understand format, allowing users to understand the big picture and learn more from the web.

However, incorporating an AI chatbot tool into search could bring some risks, as these tools are trained on online data and have the potential to perpetuate biases and spread misinformation. Pichai stressed the importance of bringing these models to the world in a responsible and bold way.
