The Mothershuckers Oyster Cart
Tumblr media
Open-air oyster carts used to be an integral part of New York City’s street food scene. Today, they are all but extinct. Benjamin “Moody” Harney created the Mothershuckers Oyster Cart in 2019 to change all of that.
Oyster Carts of New York City
Did you know that oysters were one of New York City's original street foods? Just imagine: standing at a street corner in Lower Manhattan on a crisp fall day slurping a dozen fresh, raw oysters from an oyster cart. Peddling oysters alongside hot buns and peanuts was a normal thing in New York City back in the late 1700s and 1800s. Today, it's a rarity. There is only one pushcart set up in all of Brooklyn: Benjamin "Moody" Harney's Mothershuckers Oyster Cart outside of Eugene & Co. on the corner of Tompkins Avenue and Jefferson Avenue. Inspired by the story of Thomas Downing, a.k.a. the Oyster King of New York, Moody started his business in the fall of 2019. Read the full article here.

Oops I have a temporary new house mate.

Poor guy (only guessing it's a guy) was outside in the cold on my way home, but just so friendly. Idk I guess if you're near Bed-Stuy Brooklyn tell me if you lost a cat. We'll probably have to get him off to a foster if we can't get in contact with the owner.
Bonus here's my confused lady trying to wrap smol brain around these events.

My Too Good to Go orders (three orders total) from CookUnity in Bed-Stuy: nine prepared meals. My Too Good to Go cost: $12.
This purchase is from September 2022. Since that time, CookUnity has reduced the number of items in its bags—usually one meal per bag.
The pick-up spot in the building has changed several times over the handful of times that I have visited the location. The person who distributes the bags does not speak English, so it can be difficult to figure out what you’re supposed to get. I was able to learn that what she distributes is at her discretion. She gave me three meals per order, but she gave the guy in line behind me only two meals per order. Why? I have no idea.
Initially, I was impressed with my TGTG orders from CookUnity, but now I think going there is not worth the time and frustration dealing with the contact person there. The meals are just ok. They aren’t filling or particularly tasty.
Note: Meals that do not have a cover contain perishable food that should be eaten right away (like lettuce). Do not freeze them.

“I’m wearing a yellow Haitian inspired yard skirt and a vintage apple bottom top. My style is heavily inspired by my country and and childhood (the 2000s). My personal style is very versatile and I am inspired by many other things but here I think I was inspired by early Afro Latin market women and Haitian festival culture.”
