The best days at the precinct were the ones with no work. No crime scenes to investigate, no files to sort, no nothing. But they werenât your favorite because you hated your job and the workload (quite the opposite, actually). No, they were your favorite because you could have some alone time with Connor, playing the little game you always did.Â
As head forensic psychologist, you were primarily tasked with interviewing suspects and analyzing their reactions. Your job got a lot harder when Connor joined the department, making your job look so much easier than it actually was.
Rather than view him as your rival, you viewed Connor as a challenge. You wanted to prove (to yourself more than anyone else) that you were just as good at your job as any android. Besides, you respected Connorâs interrogation process far too much to hate him. Or rather, you liked watching him during his interrogation process. Really, you just liked watching him in general.
When there was no work and the precinct was nearly empty, you and Connor were allowed to take over the interrogation room. You would sit across from each other, doing everything you could to make the other break in a mock interrogation.
It was there that you found yourself, hands neatly clasped atop the table and brow raised in arrogant curiosity. Connor stood opposite you with his palms pressed against the table, scrutinizing you with narrowed eyes. His eyes scanned over you as he tilted his head in that annoyingly endearing way before pulling back and rubbing his hands together in thought.
âDo you believe Lieutenant Anderson is a good mentor?â Connor asked.
The two of you always asked each other meaningless questions, doing your best to refrain from answering or to successfully lie to the other. At this question, you remained silent for a moment longer than you should have.Â
âYes,â you replied simply, offering a nonchalant shrug in an attempt to throw Connor off.
âYouâre lying,â he accused immediately.
âI would never,â you retorted. âIâm offended you would think so.â
Connor ceased his questioning to eye you suspiciously. His eyes trailed over your body for any indication of discomfort or nervousness. You hoped he wouldnât find any.
âThe brevity of your response and lack of natural movement suggest youâre lying,â Connor said as he studied you again. âYou believe youâd be a better mentor than Lieutenant Anderson, donât you?â
âIn some aspects, yes,â you answered truthfully. After all, to lie properly was to occasionally tell the truth.
Connor nodded along with your response, noting the way you remained unaffected despite being caught in a lie. He would need to do something more to break you, something that would make you sweat.
Your gaze followed Connor as he started to pace the length of the room. Your attention was drawn to his LED as it flashed quickly between colors. Blue. Yellow. Red. Red? Yellow.
The occasional bright red made your brows furrow. Was he really that stumped? He couldnât think of a single way to break you? You doubted it. Something else must have been on his mind, your thoughts racing at what could have him so conflicted.
âConnor,â you whispered hesitantly.
The sound of his name seemed to snap him back to attention. Connor immediately stopped pacing and fixed you with a steady gaze as if he had come to a decision. With careful steps, Connor rounded the table to stand beside you. He leaned against the table and looked down at you with his arms crossed confidently.
âYouâre hard to break, arenât you?â he murmured.
The crease between your brows deepened as your confusion grew. You were puzzled by Connorâs sudden proximity and the low tone of his voice.
âWell, I⌠I guess itâs part of the job,â you said softly.
Connor nodded and agreed simply, âTruth.â
Another beat of silence passed as Connor did nothing but watch you. His eyes flitted about your figure, though it seemed as though he wasnât analyzing you this time around. It was like he was looking at you just to look at you.
âDo you find enjoyment in our little game? In successfully lying to me?â Connor inquired.
You were hesitant to answer, your confusion outweighing any thought. When you did speak, your voice cracked slightly when you answered, âYes.â
âDo you find enjoyment in other ways from our game?â he continued.
âNo.â
âLie.â
You couldnât help but stare at Connor. You wanted to tear your gaze away from his desperately, but there was something so appealing about the hardness of his typically gentle eyes.Â
When you didnât answer, Connor raised his brows and leaned forward expectantly. The intensity of his gaze made you suddenly nervous, your heart racing as you moved to fidget with your hands.
âI need a truthful answer, Detective,â Connor stated firmly.
He knew the answer. He knew you were lying. He just wanted you to say it. There was no point in denying anything now.
âYes.â
Connor hummed and finally pulled his gaze away from you, allowing you to sigh in relief. There was something in his eyes that made you⌠inexplicably anxious.Â
âCan you elaborate?â Connor prodded after a moment.
âI can,â you replied quietly. âBut I donât want to.â
At your refusal, Connorâs attention snapped back to you, the crinkle in his brow suggesting his mild surprise.
âWhy is that, Detective?â he urged. When he got no response, only your steady gaze locked with his, he continued. âAre you worried it may incriminate you?â
âNo,â you replied calmly.Â
Admittedly, you were very proud of yourself for keeping such an unperturbed composure. Your face remained tranquil and your voice confident. But your external composure meant nothing, not when it was Connor interrogating you. He could detect your pounding heart and uneven breaths with ease. You bet he could even sense the claminess of your palms.
âLie.â
You werenât entirely sure why you even attempted to lie anymore. Connor was a walking polygraph, he could see through any of your lies no matter how believable they were.
But being as stubborn as you were, you refused to admit that Connor was right. Instead, you sucked in a slow breath and pressed your lips in a thin line, eyes locked on Connor the entire time. Your stubbornness made him frown, though you knew it was a quality he had always admired.
âFine. If you wonât tell me yourself then Iâll just have to guess,â Connor shrugged with mock defeat. He pretended to think for a moment, lips pursed in a way that made your eyes dart to his mouth. âIs it because you find superiority in besting me?â
Connor started tame. Anyone would feel superior after besting an android, he was well aware of that. And you knew he was aware. What was he trying to get at?
âYes, partially,â you said, cursing yourself for admitting that it was only part of the reason you found your mock interrogations so enjoyable.
Connor seemed unphased by your answer as if he already knew there was more to your enjoyment. He sat in quiet deliberation again, though he had already settled on his next question.Â
âIs it because youâre attracted to me?â Connor questioned innocently.
Connor was smart, you knew this. You knew this and still thought that maybeâ just maybeâ he wouldnât be able to guess correctly.
You couldnât stop yourself from glancing away from Connor, knowing that it only made you look more suspicious. You swallowed hard, keeping your eyes focused on the wall in front of you.Â
âDetective?â Connor pressed as he waited patiently for an answer.
You startled at the light touch of his hand on your chin as he slowly turned you back to him. He kept a gentle but firm grip on your chin, looking down at you questioningly. The feeling of his skin against yours didnât help at all. It only worked to accelerate your heartbeat, which Connor immediately took note of.
âYour heart rate has increased by 32%, Detective,â Connor observed. âAn increased and irregular heart rate is typically a sign of nervousness. Are you nervous?â
âYou know the answer,â you mumbled.
âYouâre right, I do,â he confessed easily. âBut I want to hear it from you; are you nervous?â
âYes.â
âBecause I was correct in assuming youâre attracted to me?â
You inhaled slowly, working up the nerve to answer. But there was no point, you both knew your answer. He knew. You knew. It felt like everyone in the precinctâ everyone in the worldâ knew.
âYesâŚâ
The corner of Connorâs lips quirked into a satisfied smirk having successfully broken his most stubborn participant. He slowly pulled his hand away from your chin, resting it flat against the tabletop. His arrogance sparked something inside you, compelling you to act unnaturally bold.
âFine, you win,â you grunted, rising from your seat. âCongratulations.â
Without much thought, you reached for Connorâs tie and yanked him into you, smashing your lips against his. Your hand was tight around his tie, your nerves seeping into your grip. You pulled away sharply, only allowing him a quick kiss before your nerves could fully return. You released his tie and gently pushed his chest to put some distance between the two of you.Â
âThereâs your prize,â you hissed, though you both knew there was nothing menacing behind your tone.
It was Connorâs turn to feel flustered, finally. His cheeks were coated with a faint blush, his eyes wide and utterly perplexed. His lips were still parted slightly like he was savoring the feeling of your lips against his. Unease boiled in your chest the longer Connor did nothing.
But the look in his eyes settled any feelings of insecurity. He looked entirely infatuated with you. And when he spoke again, that infatuation only made itself clearer.Â
âIf thatâs my prize, Iâll have to win more often.â

Yaya's Cookies, and how it affects Spirits - Boboiboy AU
Contains OCs, OOC
___________________________
A spirit's job is no easy task, or that's how it is nowadays since civilization came into the picture. Keeping balance, taking care of the planet... It's hard work. But that's why the spirits aren't bound by ordinary biological rules. They can easily shrug off radiation or poisoning.
So why did Yaya's cookies affect Taufan in such an adverse way?
Granted it was made with poisoned goat milk, but her cookies have proven themselves to be quite lethal even without the milk.
There are also certain exceptions to this, but he doesn't know why a spirit like Taufan would go manic while they didn't.
The spirit of light has a hypothesis in mind, but he can't confirm it just yet with so little data. Perhaps a few interviews are in order.
Ah, what boredom does to the mind.
________________________________
The first spirit that Solar contacted was Forte, the spirit of Fortification, the youngest known spirit, and works indirectly for TAPOPS
It was also known that she likes to spar with Yaya to practice her power and skill. Yaya was fond of the little spirit too, acting like an older sister to her (despite Forte being 528, not like he can criticize them).
"Hi Elder Solar! How are you?" Forte's face appeared on the tablet, she appears to be lying on her back, she must have been playing while waiting for Veronica.
Being the youngest, she had taken to calling the Elementals 'Elder', after learning they are the oldest living spirits as of now to annoy them.
"Hello Forte. I am fine, I simply have a few questions for you regarding Yaya's cookies"
"Oh... those.." Forte's face seem to droop a little. "What about them?"
"How did you feel when you ingested them?"
"That's it? Well, it was fine at first"
"At first?" Solar asked with a raised eyebrow
"You see..."
"Here, I made some cookies for you Forte" Yaya said, handing the little spirit a basket of cookies.
"Really? I can have them?" Forte asked as she looked at the adorably shaped cookies.
"Of course! Try one"
Forte picked out one of the cookies and tried taking a bite. It's weirdly hard, the taste reminds her of the wasteland days...
"How is it? I made it with a new recipe"
"Ummm, it's not bad, could use a little more flavor"
"I see. Thank you for the feedback" Yaya nods
"Ever since then, she kept handing me cookies, but they start to taste even worse somehow... There are times of improvement but very little" She sighs. It was dreadful.
Solar can only share his condolences for Forte's fate. At least she hasn't fainted from it or become manic.
"Anyways, I have a question for you too Elder!"
"What is it?"
"Can you help me figure out the fuel for this one piece of equipment? We're trying our best but it keeps blowing up. I can use my power so it doesn't get destroyed but everyone would rather have more permanent solution". Forte had picked up a fondness for weapons and many technologies, as they align well with her power, not so well with chemistry though.
Since he's bored. Why not?
"Send it's data over, I'll see what I can do"
"Thank you Elder! Also, Yaya decided to hand out her treats to engineers and mechanics that came to assist us a while ago. She handed a box of them to Remiel. He's an android so he should be fine. Not sure about Kanoa or Mr Esther though
"I see. I'll ask them"
"Wow. Elder Solar socializing? Oh wait, lemme guess. You're doing some kinda experiment aren't you?"
"It is just a test to pass the time" Solar simply stated the truth, he is definitely not slightly miffed about Forte poking fun at him.
"Sure sure whatever helps you sleep at night. Wait you even sleep-"
"Just send me the data"
It wasn't nothing Solar couldn't handle. He quickly found a way around the "spontaneous combustion".
_______________________________
"Hello Solar. How may I help you?" A polite voice had picked up the call. He knows who it is.
"Hello Remiel. I heard Yaya gave you a box of cookies"
Remiel, an android made by a spirit. Solar's quite curious about his functions. For a creation from 50000 years ago, his functions are quite advanced and mysterious.
Raziel knew what she was doing
"Yes. It was kind of her. I assume this isn't the only reason you called?"
"Correct. I am currently studying the reason why we spirits can't seem to handle them" He doesn't have that many options to be honest. Only 11 spirits are confirmed to exist. His brothers liked to keep in touch with the other spirits and Solar himself really had no complaints.
"If it's the results you are looking for... Kanoa is currently curled up in bed. She is recovering. Briar also had some, but he is alright from what I've observed"
"Thank you Remiel"
"You're welcome".
________________________________
"Greetings, Solar" A voice rang out in his mind before he could contact the next spirit he knows.
"Greetings to you too, Neira" Or Oneira if he goes by the name her master gave her. Although she initially introduced herself as the spirit of Dreams, her true identity is the Spirit of Sentience. As such, it allows her to tamper with the senses.
One of which being one-way telepathy.
Solar pressed call, and Neira's face showed up on the screen, smiling.
"I assume you had an experience with Yaya's confectioneries?"
"It's not exactly me per say, but I experience it through Nisha"
"Do elaborate"
Nisha stared at the adorable box of cookies Yaya had made, then at Yaya and Ying.
One's face was almost as bright as the sun in anticipation, the other looked at her with pity. Nisha knows why. She had heard rumors of the dreaded treats.
But she can't simply say no, not when the pink hijabi girl made it out of such good will. She can only hope it tastes good.
So she goes ahead and took a bite.
Shakily, she gives them an "Okay" hand signal.
"Of course, Nisha wasn't actually okay. It absolutely decimated her taste buds in a bad way, and I had to numb her tongue. Then she suffered from a stomachache later" Neira sighs.
"I... see" Solar sweatdropped. Nisha was still in medical care, rehabilitating her movement. 64 years in a cryopod can do that to a person.
"Before you end the call. I have something to tell you as a spirit that's very experienced with the senses"
"And that is?"
_______________________________
'With some input from Neira, the spirit of Sentience. I've confirmed my suspicion. We were simply vulnerable to the taste of the cookies, not the actual ingredients itself. It's both quite the relief and cause for concern'

In-Character OC Interview

answering for my best and belovèd android detroit
Are you named after anyone?
âNo, though Vektor more or less chose my name for me, after tiring of referring to me as my official name of D3TR0-17.â
When was the last time you cried?
âI canât produce tears, but if I could âŚâ His features are a mangled uncertainty that leads you to think the answer might be ânow.â
Do you have kids?
At this, Detroitâs eyes light up and he fumbles for something half concealed beneath the hem of his shirt. He detaches it from his belt, holding it up for you to see: an old Tamagotchi in a light blue shell, small nicks peppering across the screen. âThis is Avy. I found him in Mattixâs pawn shop.â
Do you use sarcasm a lot?
âHowever much it takes to irritate Vex on any given day, which is probably not a lot but he might beg to differ.â
Whatâs the first thing you notice about people?
âMannerisms, body language. It is what I was designed for.â
Whatâs your eye colour?
He reaches a finger to rest just below his right eye and says, âOriginally they were both this shade of blue, but then âŚâ He frowns. Gestures to the left eye, a soft brown that does not match. âThere was a mistake during manufacturing.â
Scary movies or happy endings?
âScary movies are more inclined to activate my emotional receptors, which makes me feel more in touch with the human experience.â
Any special talents?
âVektor says I have a skilled mouth.â
Where were you born?
âI was created at the AURAndroid Facility.â
Do you have any pets?
âI have Avy ⌠that is the closest I might ever get to having a pet companion.â
What sort of sports do you play?
âI donât understand the appeal.â
How tall are you?
âFive feet. Ten inches. And three-fourths.â
What was your favourite subject in school?
âI was programmed with knowledge pre-installed and thus have no use for schooling, but I am still eager to learn anything that isnât already in my database.â
What is your dream job?
His brow furrows as he contemplates the question. âI was designed to be a top of the line android on the force.â

Hi! I saw your post about being a programmer and previously working in a warehouse. How did you make the switch? Im trying to get into tech as a 2nd career as well. Thinking about data analytics as it applies to healthcare (Iâm a nurse). Did you do a bootcamp? What did you do to change careers? Thanks!
I actually got a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering in 2012 but never got a job doing that because everyone wanted experience and because the process of getting a job is not designed with autistic people in mind.
The warehouse job was supposed to be a temporary job while I looked for a job as an Electrical Engineer, but because I never got one, I stayed at the warehouse for 8 years until the pandemic caused them to close.
I decided that I'd have a better chance as a programmer because I could start off making my own apps. Even if I didn't make much money from my own apps, they could be mentioned on a resume or talked about in an interview in order to give me an edge over others with no experience.
So I taught myself how to make Android apps and made some of my own. I then took an online boot camp in order to learn the best practices and specific skills that are more relevant to a career.
I tried every method of job hunting I could think of. I tried applying on job boards. I tried writing a cover letter. I tried a professional resume writing service. I tried responding to calls from telemarketers.
I tried using a staffing agency that wrote a bogus resume filled with lies in order to make it seem like I had 10 years of experience with many different tasks. This got me several interviews a week. This didn't get me a job, but it gave me practice for when I finally got an interview for real. I wouldn't recommend this, but I didn't know their tactics until an interviewer showed me the resume that was being used.
I eventually got a job from a telemarketer. But to prevent them from wasting my time, I told every telemarketer upfront that I have no experience and no interest in relocating. Once they got me an interview, it was very easy to answer their questions after all the bogus interviews that I did.

Pairing: RK900/Gavin Reed
Tags: Post Pacifist Ending, Enemies to Friends to Lovers, Slow Burn, Eventual Smut, Angst, Hurt/Comfort
Masterlist
Read on AO3 here:
Summary: A lot has changed since the revolution. Crimes against androids are now punished in the same way as crimes against humans. A reluctant Gavin Reed and his new partner RK900 have been assigned to investigate a string of disturbing murders. Despite the shift in Detroit's social climate, Gavin still holds reservations about whether or not androids are truly alive. Will his developing feelings for 'Nines' be the thing to change this?
Warnings: Graphic Violence, Depression/Self Destructive Behaviour, Eventual Smut
Word Count: 3K
The incident at the church was never discussed, although the tension from the event still lingered. Gavin stared unwaveringly at his monitor, scrolling through the latest CyberLife testimonies. This had become a pattern over the last few days, with him trying to complete his work with as little engagement with Nines as possible. This had not gone unnoticed by his partner, who quickly grew resentful of being served the cold shoulder. It seemed equally content to ignore him back. If only out of spite.Â
"Still fuck all coming from these interviewsâ, Gavin mused, finally breaking the silence. âIf anyone knows anything about this Synthetic Reaper, they're keeping tight-lipped."
This was not a topic that Nines was interested in, evident in its painfully unenthused response.Â
"Indeed."Â
The detective bristled, knowing he only had himself to blame for the unsociable atmosphere. Turning his attention back to his computer, the menial task of report filing suddenly felt like a blessed escape. After a few minutes of typing, his phone reverberated from the side of his desk. He ignored the notifications at first until the persistent buzzing became a nuisance.Â
Reaching over to silence the device, he was soon grateful he'd done so, as brightly illuminated on the screen was a series of incriminating texts. Outlining the embarrassing details of his most recent personal struggle:
Actually Decent (4)
[10:03am] Gav
[10:03am] hey
[10:04am] have you and Nines made out yet
[10:04am] or are u still planning on wimping out
Gavin pulled his phone closer, out of the view of prying eyes. He went back to scanning the information on his report, focusing on a section he had yet to finish. "You got anything for this new code? The one in the victimâs scripture?"
âNo."Â
Amazing.Â
His phone shook again, and glancing down, he saw that Tina was diligently adding to the collection of unwanted messages:
Actually Decent (7)
[10:06 am] because if youre gonna bang a strangerÂ
[10:06 am] please pick one thats normal
[10:07 am] no more weird kinks
"No?" Gavin questioned, eyebrows raised in disbelief. "That's a first for you, smart ass."Â The tone was intended as jovial, but the reception was frosty at best. Nines shot him a sharp glare, huffing disapprovingly under its breath.Â
Gavinâs fingers twitched on his keyboard, wondering if he should cut his losses and accept his looming termination. There were other jobs he could pursue, after all. Perhaps a career as the world's most surly birthday clown. Or a disappointing male stripper.Â
Actually Decent (9)
[10:09 am] I still have nightmares about the pet-play guy
[10:10 am] Iâll never recover from the things u told me
Nines slid Gavin a slip of paper. "The message is nonsensical. Most of the text makes sense, but the ending appears to be gibberish."Â
He peered down, scanning over the carefully penned digits. "...So what are we thinking? Another hidden code, like SL C?"Â
"Might I suggest you take some time to determine that yourself." The android squeezed its mouse tightly. As if it were trying to crush it to pieces. âI am getting rather tired of you copying my homeworkâ."Â
Gavin was caught off guard by this. While his partner was far from agreeable, it was unusual for it to lash out in such a juvenile way. There wasnât a hint of care or remorse as it diligently scanned its monitor, refusing to look up.Â
Once the initial shock had subsided, it transformed into something ugly. An instinctive urge to push back. Gavin balled up the paper indignantly, flicking it over the desk. âYou got a problem with sharing notes, just say. You donât have to be a little bitch about it."Â
Nines laughed, although not in the way that heâd grown used to. It was a harsh sound, short and sharp, "I find it insulting that you have snubbed me this long, only to speak now when it seeks to benefit you."
The detective tensed uncomfortably at this before puffing out his chest defensively. âIn case youâve forgotten, weâre working together. Hardly an effective partnership if we can't at least share information."Â
âIt is difficult to work with you in a professional capacity when there is something more pressing we need to discuss."Â
"And what the fuck would that be?"Â
There was a loud, crunching noise. Gavin looked over to confirm that Nines had, indeed, destroyed its mouse. Fragments of plastic littered the desk whilst others remained embedded in its hand. In the androidâs eyes, there was a strange vulnerability intermingled with its usual intensity. Not so much confronting as it was pleading.Â
"You know."Â
A tight bind encompassed Gavin's chest and threatened to cut his breathing. His focus drifted from his companionâs eyes down the expanse of its smooth, pale skin. He followed the gentle slope of its nose, counting the freckles on the way, and ultimately found its lips. They looked warm and invitingâenough that he felt compelled to lean towards them.Â
It was then that he realised he was utterly fucked.Â
"I'm going for a smoke." He pushed away from his desk, shooting to his feet in a hasty motion. There were measured footsteps trailing behind him as he cowardly marched away, but he refused to turn around. Not wishing to cause a scene.Â
Shoving his way through the fire exit, he hurriedly paced down the steps, caring little if he slipped on the ice. His hand found the cigarettes in his pocket, and he squeezed the box with such intensity that he successfully crushed half of its contents. Pulling out one of the smokes left intact, he had barely touched it to his lips when the heavy door slammed open behind him.Â
"I would appreciate it if you stopped running from me," a stern voice chided.Â
Staring vacantly into the parking lot and with nowhere else to go, Gavin glumly accepted the inevitable, surrendering to the demand. "Iâm not running," he denied, in staunch contradiction to his previous actions. "What do you want to talk about?"Â
"Iâd think that is rather obvious. I wish to discuss what happened."Â
While he tried to maintain a facade of composure, there was no hiding his racing pulse. He knew Nines would have to suffer a serious malfunction not to sense how panicked he was. "I donât know what you mean."
âThen I'll have to enlighten you: I am referring to the reckless - and frankly deranged - behaviour you exhibited at the church the other day."Â
Gavin was grateful for the harsh wind outside, as it gave him the perfect excuse to hide his face under the guise of preserving his light. He thought back to the day in question and the moments leading up to the assault on his partner. There had been no thoughts when grappling the man, just white-hot rage that scorched his skin and blinded his senses. The answer to what happened eluded him, and he was content to leave that way.Â
âIâve got nothing to say." He said, moving forward to descend another concrete step.Â
His partner would not be so easily sated. It calmly closed the door and began its own descent down the staircase. Gavin stepped in time, seeking to maintain the distance between them, as Nines persistently charged forward. This carried on for a while, like some sort of surreal line dance. "For someone who despises androids so vehemently, you seem extremely keen to jump to my defence."
The run of the steps finished, and the two found themselves on the pavement. Unless they wished to carry their quarrel into the busy streets of Detroit, Gavin knew it was best to stay put. âI am not jumping to anyoneâs defence."
"It isn't the first time you've done so for me." Nines ignored his protest, exploiting its looming physique to tower over its partner. "There was the man outside Mikeyâsâ"
"That didn't mean shit."
"I don't believe you." It sounded exhausted, as if it had been dwelling on the subject for days. "Please, I'm just trying to understand."
âThereâs nothing to understand. You said before that I have some weird saviour complex. Call it instinct."
"Why would you seek to save something you so openly despise?"Â
Gavin took a shaky drag of his cigarette, the smoke catching in his throat, "Because it's my job", he said plainly, though his wavering tone was far from convincing. "I wasn't going to let him hurt you like that. I would have done the same for anyone, human or android."Â
"I do not feel pain, of which you are aware." Nines picked holes in the flimsy argument without hesitation. "What reason would you have to believe I was hurt?"Â
The detective backpedalled, realising that he'd trapped himself with his own telling wording:Â
"I didn't mean hurt; I meant break," he excused.Â
"I assured you that my structural integrity had not been compromised."Â
"Just let it go. I wasn't thinking."Â
"I disagree. You have been thinking a great deal." The android pressed, toeing the line between firmness and aggression. "I needed no saving the night I stayed over, yet you showed me the same consideration. I find your continually shifting attitude towards me deeply confusing."Â
This machine doesnât know what heâs doing , Gavin thought to himself. Nothing good would ever come from the proverbial shitstorm that was beginning to manifest. Â
Wait. He stopped, firmly correcting himself:
It.Â
Not he.Â
Oh, Jesus Christ.
âYouâre one to talkâ, he seethed, expunging his frustration like poisonous venom. âI don't know what's gotten into you, but this buddy-buddy shit is getting old. We aren't friends; we're co-workers. We donât have to pretend weâre anything more."Â
He tried to pull away, to which Nines reached out, grabbing him firmly by the arm. "Why are you so desperate to deny what you feel?"Â
"What do you know about what I feel?" Gavin snapped. The proximity between them was dizzying, their faces inches apart. "All you are is a hunk of plastic pretending to be a person."
The cruelty of his words came with little conscious thought. Part of him wanted to stop, but he refused to back down. He had already made the fatal mistake of letting the android into his mind, and he needed to shut it out before things got any worse.
"Your views have changed; you no longer believe that." Nines attempted to sound assured, but its torn expression betrayed this. Â
"You said you weren't interested in pretending, and I'm not interested either, android." The word was spat from his lips like an aggressive slur.
His partnerâs temple shone red, and its grip tightened with mounting defiance. "I understand that I will never be human, but I do not lack the capacity to feel."Â
"Don't delude yourself," he sneered, barking out a cruel laugh. "You try to get into my head, manipulating my feelings to serve your directives, and you wonder why I fucking hate you."Â Â
Nines let go, recoiling fiercely as if the man burned to the touch. As it stared at him with wide eyes, there was no mistaking the raw heartbreak that blighted its features.
"I see."Â
The voice barely registered above a whisper, but to Gavin, it could have been screaming. He found himself unable to look, to face the consequences of what he had done. A part of him wished to take it all back. To pull his partner into an embrace and hastily beg for its forgiveness. But he knew that he couldn't. At least not now.Â
Once that line had been crossed, there would be no turning back.
The ash built up on his neglected cigarette, and he made no effort to flick it away. With the light extinguished, he allowed it to slip limply from his fingers. "I'm going to get a coffee. Be back in a few."Â
"You can get coffee from the canteenâ, Nines replied, words strained from its melancholic state.Â
âNot that coffee, I want...different coffee...at homeâ, he cringed at the weakness of his excuse. "Just don't wait up, and don't follow me."
Gavin turned on his heel and made his way to his apartment, refusing to look back. Whilst walking, he looked through his phone, swiping away the messages from Tina and instead opening his USwipe account. Seeking a distraction from the disastrous interaction that had just transpired, he filtered through the matches, looking for someone of interest.Â
He was pleasantly surprised to find a well-kempt man around his age with a bio that didnât immediately scream âweird pervertâ or âserial killerâ. He was reasonably attractive, too - with a mop of dark, curly hair and warm hazel eyes. Emboldened, he opened his chat log and fired off a quick message:
Alex
You: Hey
did u want to meet up?Â
It wasnât anything elaborate, but Gavin had never been one for making the first move, so he reasoned it was progress enough.Â
Arriving at his front door, he hoped to find some time to unwind. While he knew he couldnât hide out indefinitely - and would have to return to the station at some point - a fleeting escape was a small mercy that he would happily embrace. However, this hope was quickly extinguished when a distant yowl greeted him from the bathroom.Â
"...Tiff?â There was an unpleasant lurch in his stomach, telling him that something was wrong.Â
While his cat was usually vocal, there was something off about the noise she was making. It sounded weak and strained. Shaking off his coat, he charged through his living room and slammed the door to the bathroom open. He found Tiffany lying in the bath, half-turned onto her back and staring vacantly into space. Her chest was falling and rising rapidly, and it didn't take Gavin long to realise what was happening.
"Shit", He dropped to his knees, scurrying over in a dazed frenzy. Almost as soon as he'd leaned himself over the bath, Tiffany let out another long cry, and he tried his best to console her. Gently running a hand on her back and shushing softly. "It's okay, girl, I've got you."Â
The cat continued to pant and strain, and Gavin wondered, with significant guilt, how long this might have been going on. Extending towards the door, he pulled a towel from the nearby rail and gently pushed it beneath her. At a loss for what else to do, he reached for his phone, preparing to call the vet for some much-needed advice. An incoming call thwarted his efforts, and he stared at the screen in disbelief, unsure how to react.
While he entertained the idea of rejecting the call, he found himself unable to do so. The phone seemed to vibrate endlessly as the called ID quietly mocked him. Slowly, he pressed accept, and the caller wasted no time in pleading their case:
"It was not my place to make such brazen assumptions about your emotions. I would like it if we could talk about thisâ"
While Nines babbled, the detective noted the faint speckles of blood that littered his bath, plunging him deep into a nervous spiral. "Not now. We'll talk later."Â
Tiffany was straining a lot at this point, as Gavin recalled the vet telling him that this should be 'minimal'. He had no idea what defined minimal - or at what stage it was acceptable to freak out.Â
"Is everything okay?" Nines pressed, picking up on the obvious tension.Â
The cat's legs jerked violently, and he moved closer, pushing her back for a better view. He observed in horror the tiny head peering out from beneath her tail. "I need a fucking vet."Â
"For what reason?" Its tone became frantic, as though it were sharing in his panic. "Is it Tiffany? Is there something wrong?"Â
"Well, she's about to shit out a kitten. Other than that, sheâs just dandy." He held his breath, watching nervously as the baby's head stalled in place. Tiffany brought herself forward, desperately trying to push, before flopping back down in defeat.Â
Gavin reached out to support her, aware that Nines was still talking to him but unable to process what it was saying.
"Did you hear me?"
"Hear what?" he hissed back frustratedly, overwhelmed by the situation. "Seriously, I'm not in the mood to play games right now."Â
"I'm not suggesting we play games. I'm suggesting I come over and help you."Â
He slumped back, groaning deeply, and buried his face in his arms. "What part of 'I need the vet' did you not understand? You can't help any more than I can."
"I beg to differ. While I am not professionally trained, I have reviewed extensive resources on the stages of feline birth." Ninesâ voice was calm and reassuring, pulling him back from the brink of a full-blown meltdown. "My assistance would be invaluable to you."Â
Gavin paused, determining if he could set his pride aside sufficiently. If only for the sake of his pet. After some deliberation, he conceded, reluctantly accepting the offer, "Fine, just hurry up. This thing's coming out looking like a red Gusher, and I have no idea if that's normal or not."Â
The concern soon resolved itself as Tiffany arched her back again and gave another firm push. The kittenâs head fully emerged, revealing a small, furry body behind it. The gentle twitching of its legs assured him that all was well, and his heart swelled with pride for his pet.Â
Perhaps something good could come of the overwhelmingly shitty day.

Nanase and Arumu for the headcanon ask?
Just woke up srry for late reply
Nanase
HC A - Nanase picked up alot of hobbies during the time he was a shut in so he knows how to sew, probably learned small stuff about cooking from Mikado etc.
HC B - (based on a mem) The line Nanase (2222) has w Misane is still intact so when Misane goes to her original timeline she can still communicate with him; Future! Nanase sometimes stops in to say hi, Toukai just doesn't question it and Nanashi (2222) just helps Misane cheat on tests because there is no logic explanation how the fuck are they gonna explain "oh dw I'm talking to my best friend who's in another timeline!" (The only two (both 2222 and future) who see through the bullshit is Aira (ripple proof memory due to Android) and Izuchi (reading the bitphone data) )
HC C - Nanase probably has some vague memories of the bad and normal ends due to deja vu and gets it when the timeline restarts. And considering he's able to remember the past into the future; The whole mikado identity crisis is another thing.
HC D - Toukai adopts Nanase; Nanase is Misane's older brother (accutallly fuck canon w their relationship) Nanase gets adopted in around the time he's 16 bc Nanase managed to get into college at a young age due to credits and such and that's how Toukai met him (Toukai goes to school again could study more for his job and to keep the family afloat) and they just happen to be close upon meeting, a little shaky at first but they got there. Minisane seemed to get attached to Nanase when Toukai invited Nanase over to babysit her for the first time.
Arumu
HC A - Arumu probably had a passion for writing as a kid: She probably was the one who made morning announcements during her school years, had a blog where she takes notes and does street interviews etc, was into photography at a young age which is why she has an old Polaroid as it's sentimental to her. Because of all this she decided to pursue her interest as a reporter.
HC B - Arumu probably took so many photos during 1beat I feel like she's probably gotten couple photos of the fatcats knocking people over, nomare starting shit w his crab, shinobu when he's not paying attention, mb Sataka and Namoto when drunk etc, girlie just has alot of photos of everyone being goofy as hell that's it; everyone else just tries not to piss her off bc they know she could get more dirt if she wanted even though she wouldn't. Misane recommends to probably not to say anything Abt getting photos like that while as Nanase encourages her to keep doing it: Arumu listens to Nanase. /lh
HC C - Arumu has probably been a witness to other crimes due to being involved in press and new developments get made, though 1beat was the one that sticks w her the most due to it turning into a national tragedy by File 03, she says she's okay but with the stuff that happened in File 03, yeah that's going leave some mental scarring considering it was a variety of death causes so some would've been worse than others.
HC D - Arumu eventually joins the force w the help of Misane and Nanase due how much of her being willing to help: she still keeps her job as a reporter but she uses it as more of a side and cover up for investigations by that point. Arumu also has turned into that one friend that's always over at Toukai's place so she's practically in the family but not officially, Toukai finds her antics tiring but accepts her anyways since Nanase and Misane are very fond of her, Toukai now has 3 homosexual detective kids!! (A lovely silly happy found family :33!!)
Here's a bonus as compensation for the late reply:
I don't know what the vision was but it works

Java Interview Questions and Answers: Your Ultimate Preparation Guide

Thatâs why weâve created "Java Interview Questions and Answers: Your Ultimate Preparation Guide" to help you get fully prepared and stand out from the competition.
Java remains one of the most widely used programming languages across the tech industry. From building enterprise-grade applications to Android development and cloud-based systems, Java is a powerful, object-oriented language that has stood the test of time. As a result, Java continues to be a core requirement in thousands of job listings globally, and technical interviews often focus heavily on Java fundamentals, coding practices, and real-world problem-solving.
This guide offers a comprehensive breakdown of the most commonly asked Java interview questions, along with expert-level answers that explain not just the what, but the whyâhelping you build a strong conceptual foundation.
Why This Guide Matters
"Java Interview Questions and Answers: Your Ultimate Preparation Guide" is designed to equip you with the most relevant, up-to-date, and frequently asked questions across various job roles and experience levels. Whether you're a fresher just entering the field or a seasoned Java developer with years of experience, the questions included in this guide cover all the core areas expected in a Java interview.
With structured answers, real-world examples, and technical explanations, this guide helps you understand each topic in depthâso youâre not just memorizing, but truly learning.
Key Topics Covered in This Guide
Here are the primary categories of Java interview questions and answers covered in this ultimate preparation guide:
1. Core Java Basics
These questions test your fundamental knowledge of Java, including syntax, control structures, and data types. Examples include:
What are the main features of Java?
What is the difference between JDK, JRE, and JVM?
Explain the concept of platform independence in Java.
2. Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) in Java
As Java is built around the OOP paradigm, interviewers often assess your grasp of these principles:
What is encapsulation, and why is it important?
Explain inheritance with examples.
What is polymorphism, and how is it implemented in Java?
3. Exception Handling
Proper exception handling is critical in robust Java applications. Common questions include:
What is the difference between checked and unchecked exceptions?
How do try, catch, finally, and throw work together?
What is the purpose of custom exceptions?
4. Collections Framework
This is a favorite topic in Java interviews due to its practical importance:
What is the difference between ArrayList and LinkedList?
How does HashMap work internally?
What are the differences between Set, List, and Map?
5. Multithreading and Concurrency
Java supports concurrent programming, and questions in this category test your knowledge of threading concepts:
What is a thread in Java?
Explain the differences between Runnable and Thread.
How do you avoid thread-safety issues in Java applications?
6. Java 8 and Beyond
Modern Java versions introduced features like lambdas, streams, and functional programming:
What are lambda expressions?
How do you use the Stream API in Java 8?
What is the difference between Optional and null?
7. JVM Internals and Memory Management
Senior-level candidates are often expected to understand how Java works under the hood:
How does garbage collection work in Java?
What are the different memory areas in JVM?
How can memory leaks be detected and avoided?
8. Design Patterns and Best Practices
To demonstrate architectural thinking, candidates may be asked:
What is the Singleton pattern and how do you implement it?
Explain the Factory and Observer patterns.
What are SOLID principles in Java programming?
Sample Questions from the Guide
Here are a few samples from "Java Interview Questions and Answers: Your Ultimate Preparation Guide":
1: What is the difference between â==â and .equals() in Java? Ans: == checks reference equality, meaning whether two references point to the same object. .equals() checks logical equality, meaning whether two objects have the same value. For example, two different String objects with the same value will return true using .equals() but false using ==.
2: What is a HashMap, and how does it work internally? Ans: A HashMap stores key-value pairs. It uses a hash function to compute an index where the value should be stored in an array. If multiple keys hash to the same index, Java handles collisions using a linked list or a balanced tree (as of Java 8).
3: How does Java achieve platform independence? Ans: Java code is compiled into bytecode by the Java compiler. This bytecode is platform-independent and can be executed by the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), which is available on multiple operating systems.

To get the most out of "Java Interview Questions and Answers: Your Ultimate Preparation Guide", follow these steps:

How to Hire the Right Flutter Developers for Your Mobile App Project
If youâre building a mobile app in 2025, youâve probably heard about Flutter. Itâs one of the most popular frameworks today. But to make the most of it, you need the right team. Finding skilled Flutter developers for hire can make or break your app project.
Why Flutter?
Flutter is fast, reliable, and perfect for building apps that work on both Android and iOS. With just one codebase, you can reach a wide audience. Thatâs why more businesses are choosing Flutter for app development.
What to Look for in Flutter Developers
Hiring the right Flutter developer means checking both technical and soft skills:
Dart Language Skills: Flutter uses Dart. A good developer must be fluent in it.
Experience with UI Design: Flutter is great for beautiful user interfaces. Your developer should know how to use widgets and animations.

Still cannot click the "I am not a robot" things...
Signal.
Still autumn, the forest around the drone hub has started to gain its orange coat as winter comes knocking, the forecast reads snow within the next two months. Cold wind blowing, the insulation within the walls keeps most of it out. Quiet after the convoy escort job, an article caught my eye as I was looking into things related to Severin.
Local company invests in water purification effort
Echelon, a prominent corporation in many fields, has recently announced that they are reinforcing their ability to provide purified water and hydrogen to various clients. With the installation of two new separator boilers, the company expects that the cost of clean water will drop with the supply increasing.
âWe believe water is a right, not a thing to be monetized...â Severin, leader of the Echelon Company stated in an interview with our correspondent
The initiative comes at a time of growing concern over the recent attacks targeting the water purification facilities. Colony Security Units have confirmed they are investigating the matter but have declined to comment on the progress.
Next up: Shipments to Novis speeding up, a new player enters the game. We have an inside look...
Right, enough of that, Separator boilers then, they are quite capable pieces of machinery and not cheap either. Another tab open, I started looking into the water purifier attacks in the area. Public information remains limited, and the Empire databases are under lock and key. Federation data would likely have something, but my access was severed a few weeks ago. Leaning back in the office chair, I looked around the control room.
Fresh coat of paint and almost a kilometer of cables hidden in various ways, it was certainly a project setting all of this up, still needs a bit of work to be 100% but usable for the time being. Three high power CPUs and GPUs, the various screens mounted around and above me, I tapped my fingers against the armrests and moved things around my HUD and the screens. Said it before, the web has been spun and is spreading as I wait, messages and alerts set up for anything mentioning Androids or Phoenix.
Best defense is a good offence, but being prepared for attacks from any angle is even better, Valkyrie has been drawing up defenses in the forests, the few trail cameras and motion detectors work in tandem. Â Wildlife wanders around our region, but knowing what is out there gives some peace of mind, the landmines are harder to come by...
Faint rain against the window, I heard a sharp beep and saw a message popup on the terminal screen, I circled my chair back to the PC and opened the message on my HUD.
Unknown sender, the title a single word. Tip.
âHeard you were part of that convoy... Your chassis has seen better days. I have a thorn in my side that has an android chassis just waiting to be nicked. Yours if you take it, torch their servers on the way out and weâre even, no strings.â Signed: Grin.
Attached image, seemingly taken in a hurry, of the chassis in question, a blank canvas inside its supporting frame for delivery, the status panel containing both the serial number and a reading of the internals almost impossible to read with the blur. Missing all of its plastic covers, the face resembles a bare skull with the two dark lenses of the cameras staring into the distance. Software comes separate; I moved the image onto the terminal and analyzed it. String of numbers hidden inside the metadata, a pop up appeared shortly after, requesting a key to decrypt the data. Seven spaces, I looked down at the keyboard for a moment before the thought hit me.
If this Grin knows who I am...
>>Input key: Phoenix >>Enter >>Key accepted. Decrypting information.
Jackpot.
