Been thinking about young Miss Pauling working for the Administrator before TF2, so here are some headcanons I came up with that I really wanna write as a fanfic. Idk if it's really how solid I see her backstory so I may count this as an AU or something, but I hope some of you find it interesting!

Be prepared for many ongoing sentences and weird grammar, I'm so sorry😭

Whatever age the Admin saw her parents die in comic 7 would be the age that Pauling got hired, or maybe younger. Parallels, baby.

Pauling started working there due to conflicts with her parents, maybe she was sent there for money or maybe she wanted to choose something dangerous on her own accord. Either way, if Pauling was working with Admin for- in her own words -her entire life, it seems like she has no real family involved.

Admin basically adopts her, not as a parent but more just Pauling is not given anywhere else to go. Admin trains her how to kill and do the job properly. Pauling would work with the worse teams as a starter before Team Fortress came together.

Like Portal test subjects living in Aperture relaxation chambers, I think Pauling would now live in a small house or apartment funded by Admin/TFi as Pauling had shown she was a worthy asset/highly cooperative and should stay on company property.

There must've been something that made Pauling so trustful of and dedicated to the Administrator. Being hired at such a young age would probably make her think that she was so great/normal. Would Pauling go to school under the Admin's work? Like if everything she does is so illegal and secret, would she be sent to the normal school? Maybe she didn't attend at all and just learned on her own.

To learn, she'd read and collect library books and magazines to understand things. She didn't really have an social interactions or someone to lead her towards being a functional person growing up and it would lead her to have really awkward etiquette/social behavior. I also think she has autism so she's very much her own person and that furthers her from connecting with other people.

She learned how to ride her motorcycle at a young age and got a helmet that covered her face so she wasn't caught driving illegally. She would wear the helmet in stores or wherever she was sent to act like a mini adult.

As Pauling is canonically a lesbian, my idea is that she'd develop some kind of crush thing on the Administrator. But not being exposed to other queer people growing up, she'd probably feel really confused or have a lot of guilt. I relate Pauling to the 1931/1958 movies Girls in Uniform, where a student at a boarding school falls in love with her female teacher out of loneliness but also not having any adult figure to raise her. That's Pauling to me. Sad lesbian child.

Maybe Bidwell was hired by Saxton as a child too, so Pauling and Bidwell are ultimate WLW MLM besties for life. They hang out together in their freetime.. they are the only normal part of eachothers lives!

if you’re wondering who’s RED pearl, well if you read the tf2 comic "Loose canon" we can see Blutarch’s assistant, thats her. yes i know she’s Blu but i had already put Bidwell as Blu pearl and we never saw Redmond’s assistant so i put her instead :p

and yes Gray Diamond doesn’t have a pearl, did he shatter it? did he not deserve one bc he was the smallest and weakest of the Diamonds? idk :p we’ll figure it out later maybe lol
