Black radio host and comedian Charlamagne Tha God blasted DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs and initiatives as "garbage" on The Daily Show, a political satire television program.
DEI practices in corporate America grew in popularity, with companies promoting the value of creating a welcoming atmosphere where people from diverse backgrounds can excel. Now, however, DEI programs have become a frequent target of right-wing activists in recent years, and Republican lawmakers are backing dozens of bills targeting DEI initiatives at universities and other public institutions.
Progressives tend to back DEI programs as a way to combat institutionalized racism that they say is ever-present in society. Conservatives, on the other hand, have fought against such initiatives as they worry that DEI aims to push a narrative against some classes of people (whether that be based on race, gender, socioeconomic status, etc.) and create an unfair advantage for others.
During an appearance on The Daily Show on Wednesday night, Charlamagne showed a few ads from companies like Microsoft, General Mills and Vaseline promoting their DEI initiatives, and then showed clips of media personalities bashing such programs, saying things like "DEI is just a rebranded version of hating white people."
"These right-wingers are crazy. Right? Jesus," Charlamagne said. "But here's the part where you all stop applauding everything I say. The truth about DEI is that although it's well-intentioned, it's mostly garbage, okay."
Charlamagne then joked: "It's kinda like the black Little Mermaid—Just because racists hate it, doesn't mean it's good. And you know, I'm right, because every one of you has sat through one of those diversity training sessions and thought this is some bulls***.
"And it's not just you. Over 900 studies have shown that DEI programs don't make the workplace better for minorities. In fact, it can actually make things worse because of the backlash effect."
Newsweek could not independently confirm which studies Charlamagne referred to.
However, a paper published by Frank Dobbin and Alexandra Kalev in Anthropology Now, a peer-reviewed journal, in 2018 wrote, "Hundreds of studies dating back to the 1930s suggest that antibias training does not reduce bias, alter behavior or change the workplace."
The radio host pointed out that even with DEI programs, Black people still lack leadership positions in corporate America.
"The biggest failure of DEI is that the number of black people in power at big companies is basically the same as it was five years ago. In fact, maybe the only thing that DEI has accomplished is giving racist white people cover to be openly racist," he said.
Charlamagne said that DEI programs don't work because it's "just corporate PR" for companies who "want to cover their ass."
"We don't need corporate DEI. Yes, we want diversity and equity and inclusion. But we don't want it from Vaseline," the comedian joked.
He continued: "Real DEI is only going to come from black leadership. I don't know how to do it because I'm not a black leader, but I do know how to tell if it's working—Just keep an eye on right-wing media, the more they're freaking out, the more progress we're making."

I really like The Rewatchables Podcast but (and this is a big but) I find Bill Simmons pretty insufferable (I like him a lot he just talks too much!) and I really like the rewatchables episodes with Sean Fennessey and Adam was like, you know he has his own movie podcast? And I did not know! So I tried it and it is my ideal movie content. It's Sean, whose daughter is named Alice, and Amanda Dobbins, who is from Atlanta and is 2 years younger than me and went to my sister's and bff's high school so we know people in common/have many common childhood experiences (watching christmas movies at Phipps with old ladies).
I have mainlined like 20 episodes this week! I normally do NOT like 2 people chatting for 90 minute podcasts but this one I really do like! As I have said one million times I love movies and these people REALLY love movies but they are not snobs about it and also they get really in depth too.
Anyway the podcast is called The Big Picture and it's available in all your usual places.

The mismatched buddy buddy formula exploded onto the screen here in a ball of violence, profanity and pin sharp one liners. It also launched Eddie Murphy into 1980s stardom. Directed by Walter Hill and starring Nick Nolte alongside Murphy as part of an electrifying black and white double act, it’s unrelenting in pace and bad attitude. It could have been so different though, with the likes of Stallone, Reynolds, Pryor and Hines attached at various times for lead parts, it now is written in folklore that Murphy got the break and grasped it with both hands (he was actually fired at one point mind!). Thankfully the problems behind the scenes were resolved to give us a classic of its type. A big success for Paramount it paved the way for more choice same formula pictures in the decade, but few were able to be so course and daring with the racial divide explosions. Spotify’s The Ringer Announces Summer Ringer Residency In LA
Tumblr media
Before COVID, podcasts were generating significant interest in live events. For example, Slate had its Slate Day in Manhattan a few years ago with multiple podcasts being recorded with a live audience, as have other networks. There is On Air Fest in multiple locations. Live podcasting events are good for the industry as a whole. To continue that trend, Spotify’s The Ringer has announced that tickets are now on sale for a “Ringer Residency” taking place this summer at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, from Tuesday, June 18th through Tuesday, July 30th. A variety of Ringer shows will be featured for live podcast recordings, including The Ringer NBA Show (June 18th), Talk the Thrones (June 25th), The Big Picture (July 9th), The Ringer-Verse (July 17th), Wrighty’s House (July 26th) and The Ringer Fantasy Football Show(July 30th).
“We're thrilled to bring our shows to live audiences in L.A. this summer," said Sean Fennessey, Head of Content for The Ringer and host of The Big Picture, "to continue the great work of turning all the parasocial relationships listeners have formed with our hosts into real-world social relationships."
For more information, please visit theringer.com/events.
Here is a description of each show’s individual programming are as follows:
The Ringer NBA Show: The Ringer NBA squad provides insight and analysis every NBA fan needs. Wrighty's House: Join former Arsenal and England National Team striker Ian Wright for a live edition of his Ringer podcast, Wrighty's House, where he discusses the latest football headlines, as well as his cultural passions. General admission. Fully seated. 18+ only.
The Ringer Fantasy Football Show: Join The Ringer's fantasy football experts Danny Heifetz, Danny Kelly and Craig Horlbeck for a live recording of The Ringer Fantasy Football Show. The guys will talk training camp, fantasy football drafts and sleepers. Plus, they’ll read some emails and probably have dumb arguments after Heifetz inevitably mispronounces a word live on stage. General admission. Fully seated. All ages.
The Ringer, launched by Bill Simmons in 2016 and acquired by Spotify in 2020, is a website, podcast network and video production house creating a blend of sports, pop culture, politics and tech content.
One of the most popular sportswriters on ESPN, Simmons at times had tense and public battles with ESPN about creative freedom and censorship during his time there.
Simmons has also been the subject of a New York Times investigation in 2021 that published accusations about The Ringer′s workplace culture. It included accusations that Simmons had tried to marginalize The Ringer′s newly formed union, through tactics such as bringing in contract workers and unfollowing writers on Twitter who had expressed support for the union.
Simmons has also been embroiled in various controversies, ranging from cursing an NBA player to a recent mini-feud with ESPN host Pat McAfee over...who the hell knows...wounded male egos.
The Ringer Podcast Network includes over 50 podcasts, featuring The Bill Simmons Podcast, and The Rewatchables, among many others. Ringer Films, launched in 2018, produces long and short-form non-scripted programming, including critically acclaimed HBO documentaries André the Giant, Showbiz Kids, and Music Box, a collection of documentary films that explore pivotal moments in the music world.

A Giant Shopping Spree: Which Teams Should Plunder New York Before the Trade Deadline
We’re sorry Giants’ fans the party is officially over. What Brian Daboll accomplished in 2022 was nothing short of sensational, but as is often the case with incredible stories, the sequel simply doesn’t live up to its predecessor.
At 1-3 and dead last in a highly competitive NFC East along with a gauntlet of a schedule on the horizon, New York’s chances of making the playoffs went out the door with the Giants’ fans who left early in the 4th Quarter last Monday. We considered writing a follow-up to our previous rendition of “How Fucked are the Giants?” from a few years ago, but riding a nice buzz, we decided to focus on a more positive theme. Putting New York Football fans out of their misery for 2023! With this year’s campaign lost, it’s clearly time for the Giants to look to the future……and for competitive teams to raid their roster like Fantasy Waiver Wires!
Today we’ll highlight the best players on the Giants’ roster and which teams we think should rescue them. So grab your credit cards and leave your better judgement behind as we go on a Giant shopping spree!
Saquon Barkley
Let’s start with the most obvious. Saquon is far and away the Giants’ best player. And in a market in which no team (including the Giants) wants to pay Running Backs, it has to be beyond tantalizing for teams to pick up a rental with the pedigree of Saquon Barkley for a potential championship run. Just imagine if Hailee Steinfeld wanted to give you the night of your life, buy you breakfast the next morning, and wish you a nice life. Yeah, that’s what every GM in the league is picturing when imagining a Barkley acquisition.
So what teams should be in the mix for Barkley’s services?
Buffalo Bills:
Having just throttled the Dolphins, the Bills look every bit the Super Bowl contender Vegas penned them as last year. But what happened last year? They came screaming out the gate only to lose momentum and put entirely too much on their superhuman QB’s shoulders late in the year.
So what better way to avoid that same fate than with the injection of a dynamic rushing threat with legitimate pass catching ability a la Christian McCaffrey for the 49ers? Even when the coverage is too tight to throw downfield to Diggs, Davis, Knox, or Kincaid, with Barkley in tow, Defenses will have to account for more than just Allen gashing them underneath. Sure they have other backs, but with all due respect, none of them are Saquon Barkley.
Kansas City Chiefs:
Do the Chiefs need Barkley? Lol no not at all. They just won the Super Bowl after everyone wrote them off in light of the Tyreek Hill trade. But that being said, they lost their home opener largely due to not having a credible threat outside of Travis Kelce who wasn’t available.
Mahomes is used to making due with subpar Receivers so why not lean into it and be a run first team? Defenses having to deal with fresh legs from Barkley and Pacheco while worrying about whatever dark magic Mahomes is concocting that week would have them all doing ayahuasca by the end of the day to cope with the PTSD.
Baltimore Ravens:
Is there an Offense in the league more fitting for Saquon Barkley than the Baltimore Ravens? Having lost J.K. Dobbins for the year (again) and dealing with a rash of injuries (again), Barkley would immediately reignite Baltimore’s backfield. Seeing Lamar standing next to Saquon would make most defenses stroke out immediately while opening up the passing game even more for Baltimore’s new look receiving corps.
In an age where blockbuster trades are commonplace and teams are pushing their chips to the middle of the table, why not add one of the best Running Backs in the league to the league’s top ranked Red Zone Offense? While the league will hate it, OBJ and Ravens’ fans alike will be thrilled with the reunion.
Darren Waller
Elite options at Tight End are few and far between. And while Waller has struggled to stay healthy and make an impact in Big Blue (who hasn’t) he was a revelation for the Raiders and is a Red Zone nightmare.
But 4 weeks in, it’s very apparent that Waller is wasting away in the Big Apple while royally pissing off his Fantasy Football managers. So what teams would benefit from a big ass physical mother fucker when the field shrinks? Well frankly all of them, but these ones more than others.
Jacksonville Jaguars:
Trevor Lawrence was viewed as generational when he came out of college. And while the Urban Meyer saga is most definitely still the primary topic of his therapy sessions, his growth in his sophomore season led many to believe he was due for a breakout year especially with the addition of former 2nd Team All-Pro and Gambling Addict Calvin Ridley. Well a month into the 2023 season, Lawrence’s offense ranks 26th in Red Zone Efficiency.
While this isn’t all Lawrence’s fault and the offense as a whole is struggling to execute in key moments, adding a weapon like Darren Waller will give Defenses so much more to account for while pulling coverage away from the rest of his weapons. Plus, it’s evident Lawrence loves throwing to his Tight Ends with Evan Engram netting the second most targets on the team (29) so far this season. The Jags already resurrected one Giants’ Tight End, who’s to say that can’t do the same for Waller?
Kansas City Chiefs:
We know, we’re sick of seeing them too. But let’s be honest, two Tight End sets with Kelce and Waller would be devastating for opposing Defenses and who better to get the absolute most out of Waller than Mahomes and Andy Reid. The Chiefs are currently the definition of mid in the Red Zone (16th) and their pass catchers have had more dropped balls than a middle school locker room. Waller would force Defenses to focus on someone other than Kelce and open up even more fuckery for the league’s most diabolical duo.
Houston Texans:
That’s right, 4 weeks in, the 2023 Houston Texans are a team that should bolster its talent right now! CJ Stroud has been a revelation and is a breath of fresh air for the team that harbored, paid, and protected a rapist. Less than a quarter into his rookie season, Stroud is already throwing for over 300 yards/game, has yet to throw an interception, and is on pace to shatter Andrew Luck’s rookie passing record.
Whether that is sustainable or not remains to be seen, but the early returns could not be more encouraging for Houston and they should be all-in on helping accelerate this kid’s development. They’re also 31st in Red Zone efficiency yet sitting at 2-2 along with the rest of the AFC South. With a playoff berth in Head Coach Demeco Ryan’s first year well within reach, it seems criminal not to address one of their fundamental flaws and go on an inspired run to set the tone for the new regime.
New Orleans Saints:
Derek Carr was brought in to fix the Saints’ dog shit Offense. Well he currently holds a 45.2 QBR (24th in the league) and New Orleans is dead last in Red Zone Efficiency. But hey change can be hard sometimes and Carr was clearly playing hurt last weekend. So why not make the transition to the Big Easy, well….easy!
Waller played his best football with Carr as his Quarterback and adding a familiar face who understands Carr’s tendencies to an Offense already featuring Chris Olave, Michael Thomas, and their dipshit, yet dynamic Running Back, Alvin Kamara would certainly boost those Red Zone numbers. The NFC South is a three horse race and the Saints could use a little giddy up.
Think we missed someone? Feel free to throw out your suggestions in the comments of who else should get the fuck out of New York before their career dies!

[ad_1] It didn't take long for the NFL's first big injury of the 2023 season to occur. On his fourth snap as a Jet, Aaron Rodgers' season ended after the four-time league MVP suffered a torn Achilles on Monday night against the Bills.Rodgers wasn't the only notable player who suffered a significant injury in Week 1. J.K. Dobbins was lost for the year after the Ravens running back suffered a knee injury. Along with getting blown out by the 49ers, the Steelers lost defensive tackle Cam Heyward (ankle) for at least eight weeks and receiver Diontae Johnson (hamstring) for several weeks. The Chargers offense took a hit with Austin Ekeler dealing with ankle injury following his big performance in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins, and his injury, among others, are the ones we are monitoring as we look for ward to Week 2.Below is a rundown of each team's injury situation as the NFL delves into its second week of action. All odds courtesy of Sportsline consensus.Seattle will have to relay on tackles Stone Forsythe and Jake Curhan with Cross and Abraham Lucas out for Sunday. Bush was limited on Friday after missing practice on Thursday. Mafe missed Friday's practice in order to get some extra rest with the hope that he will be able to face Detroit.  Decker's status for Sunday does not seem good after he missed each of the Lions' practices this week. Moseley will miss his second straight game as he continues to work his way back from a torn ACL injury sustained last year as a member of the 49ers. Kansas City will have two of its biggest stars back in the lineup this weekend. Head coach Andy Reid told reporters Friday that Travis Kelce and Chris Jones will both play when the team travels to Jacksonville. Kelce missed Week 1 due to a knee injury, while Jones was absent due to a contract dispute that has since been resolved. Kelce is technically listed as questionable, but all signs point to him playing after being limited throughout the week. As for Clyde Edwards-Helaire, he missed practice on Friday after returning on Thursday, so his statues does seem to be up in the air. Jacksonville will be monitoring the status of two starting offensive lineman as they get closer to kickoff in this game. Starting center Luke Fortner and right guard Brandon Scherff are both questionable to play on Sunday. However, each was limited during Friday's practice giving them a shot to suit up.  Chicago may not have Josh Blackwell when they travel to Tampa as the Bears have listed him as doubtful for Week 2 after not practicing on Thursday or Friday. Linebacker Dylan Cole (hamstring) and tight end Marcedes Lewis (rest) both carry no designation after being listed on the injury report earlier in the week. Also, the Bears will be without defensive coordinator Alan Williams due to personal reasons, according to ESPN. Head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters that he will fill in as the defensive play caller. Tampa Bay will be missing some key pieces to their defense. In the cases of Davis and Kancey, neither was able to practice this week. As for Dennis, he popped up on the injury report as a limited participant on Thursday and did not practice Friday. Quarterback Baker Mayfield (right shoulder) was listed on the injury report all week, but was a full participant throughout and has no injury designation for this game, meaning he is good to go.Despite Indianapolis listing both Nelson and Ogletree as questionable, they both were able to practice in some capacity on Friday. Ogletree was a full participant, while Nelson worked in limited fashion after missing both Wednesday and Thursday. Running back Zack Moss (forearm) carries no designation after practicing fully all week, meaning he is in line to make his season debut. Kylen Granson (hamstring) was added to the injury report and will be questionable for Sunday.  Houston's Friday injury report included the surprise addition of Stroud, who practiced in full the previous two days. Stroud was listed as questionable despite reportedly not showing any visible issues after practice. Davis Mills would start for the Texans if Stroud can't go. Chargers (-3) at TitansEkeler and Kendricks didn't practice all week, so the odds of either player suiting up on Sunday are slim. Rumph was limited all week, while Bosa was limited on Friday after not practicing on Wednesday and Thursday. For the Titans, things aren't looking too promising for Hopkins, who said that his injury situation is a "day-to-day process." Skoronski was added to the injury report Friday after being full-go on Wednesday and Thursday.  After a two touchdown performance in the opener that was marred by a head injury, the Raiders will be without wideout Jakobi Meyers on Sunday in Buffalo. He did not practice at all this week due to a concussion. Las Vegas will also once again be without Chandler Jones, who posted earlier this month that he does not want to play for the franchise any longer. The Bills enter Week 2 healthy. Center Mitch Morse (finger) was the lone player listed on the injury report, but practiced fully throughout the week and carries no designation. Ravens at Bengals (-3)The Ravens are banged up in multiple areas and will be without a number of key players specifically in the secondary and along the offensive line. All four players that have been ruled out were unable to practice all week. On a positive note, however, Mark Andrews was a full participant in practice on Friday, which is an indication that he could make his season debut despite having the questionable tag. Cincinnati is relatively healthy heading into Week 2. However, Bailey is the lone player trending in the wrong direction. While Evans and Ossai were both limited on Friday, Bailey was the only player listed as a non-participant after popping up with a knee injury on Thursday. Joe Burrow (calf) remained listed on the injury report, but practiced fully all week and carries no designation. Green Bay has listed four players as questionable, but they all may fall under different variations of the designation. Neither Bakhtiari nor Jones practiced this week due to their injuries, while both Watson and Walker were limited on Friday. Anderson was able to return to practice on a limited basis on Friday, but the linebacker is still in concussion protocol. As for Okudah, the Falcons defensive back was limited all throughout the week, so it would appear like he has a chance to play against Green Bay. Running back Cordarrelle Patterson (thigh) was listed on the injury report this week, but was a full participant and does not carry a designation.  49ers (-7.5) at Rams The 49ers are in a better shape injury-wise now than they were in a week ago. Receiver George Kittle (groin) and wideout Ray-Ray McCloud (write) practiced in full this week after both players' statuses were in question heading into the 49ers' Week 1 win over the Steelers. Nacua, a popular fantasy football pickup following his breakout game last weekend, is expected to play despite being listed as questionable. Left tackle Andrew Thomas told reporters that his hamstring is feeling better, but is most likely going to be a "game-time decision" leading up to Week 2. As for tight end Darren Waller, his hamstring doesn't appear to be limiting his status for this matchup as he carries no designation after wrapping up the week of practice.  Beachum and Fotu were limited throughout the week, while Baker (who was also limited Friday) was a full participant during Wednesday and Thursday's practices. K'Von Wallace would likely fill Baker's spot in the starting lineup if he is unable to play. Zuerlein didn't appear on the Jets' injury report until Friday, when he did not practice after getting injured during Thursday's practice. Now that he's officially out, the Jets have signed former Browns kicker Austin Seibert. Becton, Brown and Hall each practiced in full on Friday, so it's safe to assume that all three players will be available on Sunday. Zack Martin was the man worth watching as the Cowboys released their game statues for Week 2 after he appeared on the injury report on Thursday with a groin injury. Head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters on Friday that Martin "took every rep" during the final session of the week, which would seem like he is trending in the right direction. Dallas is also holding out hope for Cooks, who did not practice at all this week but are still listing him as questionable.  Head coach Ron Rivera told reporters Friday that Commanders defensive end Chase Young (neck) has been cleared to return and will make his 2023 season debut in Week 2. Meanwhile, wideout Curtis Samuel (hip) does not carry an injury designation after being limited throughout the week of practice. While they'll be without Dulcich and Clark, the Broncos will have wideout Jerry Jeudy after the former first-round pick injured his hamstring in late August. Dolphins (-3) at Patriots Dolphins fans are surely happy to see that running back Raheem Mostert (knee) and wideout Jaylen Waddle (oblique) will play after being on the injury report earlier in the week. Each of Miami's four questionable players were limited on Thursday, with Phillips not showing up on the injury report until Friday.  For the Patriots, Brown, Sow and Jones did not practice on Friday. Onwenu, Parker and Strange were limited for a third consecutive day. A former Dolphin, Parker was inactive for the Patriots' season-opening loss to the Eagles. Saints: Safety J.T. Gray (shoulder) and running back Kendre Miller (hamstring) were the only Saints players who were not full practice participants on Friday. Both players were limited on Thursday and Friday. Panthers: Carolina placed cornerback and former first-round pick Jaycee Horn was placed on injured reserve as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury. While Horn will miss at least the next four games, the Panthers do not anticipate the injury being season-ending. Browns (-2.5) at Steelers: Monday night Browns: Defensive tackle Siaki Ika (foot) was the only Browns player that did not practice on Friday. Offensive tackle Jedrick Wills (foot) was questionable for a second straight day. Wills sustained the injury during last Sunday's win over the Bengals. On Saturday, however, the Browns got some bad news as Amari Cooper aggravated a groin injury during practice and is now listed as questionable.Steelers: Diontae Johnson (hamstring) missed practice for a second straight day and is expected to be sidelined for the next several weeks. Backup running back Anthony McFarland (knee) and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi (foot) also did not practice Friday. McFarland told reporters on Friday that his knee (which has been a lingering issue) flared up following last Sunday's loss to the 49ers and he is waiting for the swelling to go down. Arnold Schwarzenegger Inspirational Speech No Plan B | I Hate Plan B | N...
Schwarzenegger was known as the Styrian Oak, or Austrian Oak, in the bodybuilding world, where he dwarfed his competition. He won his first amateur Mr. Universe title in 1967. After moving to California in 1968 to train and compete in bigger events in the United States, he won three more Mr. Universe titles and then the professional Mr. Olympia title six years in a row (1970–75) before retiring. He surprised the bodybuilding world by returning to competition one more time to claim the Mr. Olympia title in 1980. Bodybuilding was the subject of several of his books, including the autobiographical Arnold: The Education of a Bodybuilder (1977; written with Douglas Kent Hall) and The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding (1998; written with Bill Dobbins).
Meanwhile, Schwarzenegger pursued his childhood dream of acting in movies. In his first film, Hercules in New York (1970), Schwarzenegger played the lead, but another actor was used to dub his dialog. Schwarzenegger’s native charm and wit finally came through in the acclaimed documentary Pumping Iron (1977), which led to his starring role in Conan the Barbarian (1982). He became an international star with The Terminator (1984) and over the next 20 years appeared in two sequels (1991 and 2003). His other films during this time included Predator (1987), Kindergarten Cop (1990), Total Recall (1990), True Lies (1994), and The 6th Day (2000).
