Taking the Hasselblad 500 CM out for a spin
My trip to Big Bend Ranch was probably the first time I shot medium format consistently over so many days. It whet my appetite for the big negative and I took my Hasselblad 500 CM down from my shelf. I only own one lens, the Planar 80mm f2.8, so it might as well be a fixed lens camera in my hands.
This is a lovely camera capable of great things, though I don’t think I’m even harnessing 10…

Kosmo Mono 100 x Seagull TLR
Well it has been some time since I’ve gotten around to writing about photography. It’s not that I haven’t been thinking about it or shooting when I can… It’s just been some time since I’ve had the time to sit down and write down my thoughts.
So here goes some film photo talk about a roll of film I shot last fall, I think it was late October into early November.
Scene 1. Late last fall I took a…

EXCERPT: The Power of Black and White Photography: Learning to See in Shades of Grey
EXCERPT: The Power of Black and White Photography: Learning to See in Shades of Grey
The Bare Trees By The Pond, 1988.
“I couldn’t wait to go out and shoot pictures— on the hunt for shapes and textures, looking at light and composition, shooting and rushing to the darkroom to process and print my creations. Black and white seemed to evoke a different emotion than the pictures I was taking in color. There was just something magical about the whole process and end result.”

Six (6) Tips on Fixing Film
by Johnny Martyr
I was developing some personal photos today and it occurred to me that the fixing step seems to be a point of many questions and issues. So I thought it might be useful to dedicate an entry about fixing specifically. Some of this will bleed over into color but I’m a b&w shooter so take that as being the orientation here.
Let’s get started!
1–Use Liquid, Not Powder Fix

Road Trips and Timing
Out on the road with good timing.
Today is Friday, a good day for an oddity.
Here’s a little black and white work that was made long ago on Tri-x, film.
This work is about the end of the world. No water, just dirt. Look at the photographs. You can’t see the end of any of these roads.
If the truth be told, I’m more of a desert person than I am a big body of water person. To me the desert is…

Creative photography vs technical photography
Every so often, there’s a new camera, higher megapixel and more of everything. At what point do we need to stop and think about the creative side of photography.
I do not believe that there’s a wrong or right way to go about photography. I believe that we should always choose whatever path suits us as individuals. At the very least, we do require a certain amount of technology to create a…
