Off the Menu Alaina ErdellBold Strokes Books, Inc (2023)ISBN: 978-1636792958Reviewed by Stephanie Elizabeth Long for Reader Views (10/2023) It’s no surprise to Executive Chef Taylor that the restaurant needs a lifeline. Book review: One and Done
Title: One and Done
Author: Frederick Smith
Rating: 4/5 stars
Thanks to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books, Inc. for a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Two professional, gay, Black men meet one Sunday afternoon in a bar. They banter, and have a couple of drinks; one, Taylor, is not impressed by the other, Dustin. They go their separate ways, or so they think. It turns out Dustin is in San Francisco to assess the accreditation of Taylor's university. Forced to work together, they find that initial impressions may be worth a second look.
What I liked: While this was a very tropey book, it hit each trope in such a way that I had a big, stupid grin on my face for much of it. The social justice issues around being Black and queer in a professional occupation were well presented, and were further examined with the two main characters coming from different social backgrounds. I found the age of the characters particularly refreshing; I'm not sure I've read many romances where the main characters were in their 40s without a significant age gap or a child or two being central to the plot.
What didn't work for me: Parts of the plot didn't flow very well, including the timing towards the end, which felt rushed and patchy.
Final thoughts: An entertaining romance that shines a light on queer, Black people in America.
I'd happily recommend this to anyone who enjoys modern romances.

I Do, I Don't [ARC Review]
Tumblr media
Release Date: 11th July 2023 Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Queerness Level: 🏳‍🌈🏳‍🌈🏳‍🌈
My Review:
I Do, I Don't by Joy Argento follows Annie Jackson and Nicole Hart who work together on a reality tv show of the same name. The show aims to match up brides based on a matching making algorithm. Annie is the creator and executive producer of the show while Nicole had designed algorithm in question.
The plot gets rolling when one of their brides drops out of their pilot season. Nicole being the next best match, is then thrust into the spotlight to replace her. Nicole's program is perfect and this could save the show. Yet her developing feelings for Annie throughout the process could potentially blow up the whole show.
***
Overall it was a lovely queer book that had it's own story with established queer women. I really appreciated that it wasn't a coming out story. We need more books where queer characters are past that and just living their lives. The writing style and plot was simple and easy to get into. The characters were likeable as well.
However, it could have been more developed and in depth. I think as a huge reality dating tv fan and a filmmaker, I did have some expectations going into it. The behind-the-scenes of making the show could have been more fleshed out and immersive. The book could have leaned more into Annie's producing to create a more compelling conflict on Annie's side as well.
All in all, it was still a nice book with a lot of potential. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a lighthearted read who loves romance reality shows and queer romances. Should there be a spin off with another set of characters with the depth built upon, I would love to read it. Joy Argento can only go up from here!
Thank you to NetGalley, Bold Strokes Books, Inc. and Bold Strokes Books for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Well I came home
Like a stone
And I fell heavy into your arms
These days of dust
Which we've known
Will blow away with this new sun
Severus pushed into the private chambers attached to the headmaster’s office, gaunt, shaking, practically dead behind the eyes. You closed your book, quickly setting it aside and rushing to his side, brows knitted together with worry.
“First years,” he whispered. “They’re torturing first years,”
“Severus…” you murmured, gathering him into your arms, feeling his tears wet through your t-shirt. “It-”
“No,” he hissed. “Don’t you dare say ‘it’s okay’. It’s not. They’re children. I never, never should’ve agreed to let the Carrows teach,”
You grasped onto Severus’s arms, holding him at an arm’s length. “No. It’s not okay. I know that. But it will be. We’ll get through this. We always have, we always will,” you pushed the hair that hung limp in front of Severus’s eyes away, cupping his cheek. “There’s a student resistance group meeting as we speak. The first years whose cannot go home are protected- well, as protected as they can be in a school full of Death Eaters. Minerva and Poppy have been slipping them potions and salves hidden in their homework. Even the house elves are in on it. If you stop the Carrows now, they will know something is wrong. You need to keep… him on side, Severus. We will bring them down, but we cannot do that if they don’t think they have the upper hand,” Severus nodded, pinching the bridge of his nose. “This will pass,” you reassured him,
But I'll kneel down
Wait for now
And I'll kneel down
Know my ground
Severus took a shaky breath and nodded, letting you guide him to the couch before his knees gave out. “Soon,” you promised him, kissing his forehead. Stroking his hair, you held him close to his chest, lulling him to a fitful sleep.
But Severus gasped, sitting bolt upright and grasping onto his wrist as it burned with the summon of the dark lord. He didn’t immediately get up. “Go,” you said. “You must go, I’m sure there is still some floo powder in the-”
“I know! I know i must go,” he snapped and you sighed, watching him go, knowing not to argue.
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you…
***
So break my step
And relent
You forgave and I won't forget
Know what we've seen
And him with less
Now in some way
Shake the excess
“YN,”
The rasp of Severus’s voice woke you almost immediately. “Shhh… I’m here,” you said, rubbing your eyes as you sat up, adjusting to the darkness; the candles had burned right to the stub.
“I’m sorry,” was all Severus said, and you frowned, pulling him close, knowing that whatever had happened that night was worse than usual. While Severus’s uninjured state indicated that he hadn’t been physically hurt, you knew immediately that he had been tortured emotionally, mentally. “I’m sorry,” he whispered, voice dissolving into a small, weak whimper as he repeated those two words over and over again, cradled in your arms as he yanked on his own hair. You shushed him, untangling his fingers from his hair so that you could squeeze his hands. “H-he threatened to kill you if I limited the Carrows’ power… you’re in danger as long as you’re associated with me. H-he could’ve killed you and my lasts words to you would’ve been those of anger,”
“I know. I know I am in danger. But you are in greater danger, every day. Do not be sorry, Severus. And if you are, for whatever reason, I forgive you,”
***
Now I'll be bold
As well as strong
And use my head alongside my heart
So take my flesh
And fix my eyes
A tethered mind free from the lies
“Nagini… kill,”
You bit back your gasp as you heard the vicious hiss of the serpent, the groan of pain and the thud of his body on the floor of the shrieking shack. Voldemort slipped out of the shack, his beloved snake beside him, leaving Severus’s bleeding, broken body behind, a forgotten waste product of his reign of terror. Tears slid down your face as you heard Potter creep through.
“Take them,” you heard Severus wheeze, and you knew from the hitch in his voice that he meant his tears.
As harry made to leave the shack, you grasped onto his shoulder, making him gasp and draw his wand. “Get rid of the snake. Get rid of the snake and it’s over,”
Wide eyed, harry nodded quickly, not quite registering who you were (though he was sure he had seen you in Grimmauld Place more than once) and running off.
And I'll kneel down
Wait for now
I'll kneel down
Know my ground
You fell to your knees next to Severus, your tears dripping onto his face, mingling with the salty tracks of his own. Bowing your head, you openly sobbed, your hands stained by his blood as you grasped onto his clothes, feeling the heat of his body still radiating through the fabric, the weak, unsteady thud of his heart against your hands.
Your head snapped up and your eyes widened.
“Severus…”
Raise my hands
Paint my spirit gold
And bow my head
Keep my heart slow
You had never been more tired in your life, yet you refused to allow your eyelids to droop, your mind to switch off, your thoughts to still. Walking up to the Headmistress’s tower (for McGonagall was now the head of Hogwarts), you willed yourself to keep going, to keep moving as you put one foot in front of the other, up the winding staircase. You knocked on the door, just in case there was somebody in there, before opening the door.
The office was empty, most of the portraits snoring, or visiting other frames. Dumbledore’s portrait, however, was wide awake as he stared down at you with his familiar, sky blue twinkle. “Any news, dear girl?” He asked gently and you sighed, running your hand through your hair.
“Still the same,” you said, voice a little high pitched and shaking. “I’ve come to collect a new book…” you had been steadily working your way through some of Severus’s favourite reads, reading them aloud for him, sure he could hear you as he lay in his coma. “And a razor. His five o’clock shadow is rivalling even yours now, and he did- he likes being clean-shaved,”
“Make sure you take care of yourself too,” Dumbledore’s portrait advised you. “Otherwise Madame pomfrey will put you into a hospital bed too,”
***
The old potions tome lay abandoned on the bedside table with a bit of paper marking the place. You held onto Severus’s hand in both of yours, your fingers occasionally dipping down to check his pulse, to make sure he was still with you as you bowed your head over your clasped hands, your wedding bands clacking occasionally. Kissing his knuckles, you stared up at his face; he hadn’t looked as relaxed as he did in two years, and it pained you to think that after everything, it took a coma to undo the tight knit in his brow.
'Cause I will wait, I will wait for you
“I love you, Severus,” you whispered against his hand. “I love you. Please, stay with me, come back,” you bit your lip hard. “Leave me in this world alone as long as you want, but please... come back to me. You always have, Severus. And I’ll be waiting right here for you,”
And I will wait, I will wait for you

You Make Me Tremble by Karis Walsh
Two women meet on the ferry and are attracted to one another but clash before the ferry docks. Iris O’Malley, animal rescuer, is a resident on the island that Casey Radnor, seismologist, has been sent to study after an earthquake has hit the area. With one thing leading to another the two spend quite a bit of the time Casey is on the island clashing, sharing and caring. They find they have much in common in some ways but that they are quite different in others. The main dilemma is trust and whether or not there is a way for them to meet their professional needs while moving forward together. I like animals so loved the many animals shared in this story. I enjoyed learning more about the San Juan Islands, seismology and even a bit about creating greeting cards. This is my first book by this author but doubt it will be my last. In some ways I can see this as the first book in a series that would star the residents of Friday Harbor.

The Triad
Fictional authors are increasingly using the ideologies of the sanctity of the three. It stands to reason because the magical essence of the triad speaks to that spiritual center in our cellular being. It fuels the imagination. Its sacrosanct principles are soulful nourishment that predates most religions. So, for me, reading sensual fiction…

Virtual Sketchbook 2
JOURNALING-
1.    UNITY AND VARIETY.  Unity in design is a definite part of most art. Unity and variety go together to tell a story.  Sometimes the unity will need to be studied to find the harmony in the art. Variety may act against unity if it is overdone causing chaos. Variety keeps the viewer’s interest.  Highway signs are and example, need for unity so all drivers recognize them as instructional signs and variety in purpose.
2.    Balance.  “I saw the Figure 5 In Gold” gives a strong sense of balance with variety.  Demuth’s balance is lively and colorful.  Balance can be demonstrated either in symmetry or asymmetry. Whether balance is identical, matching, balance can be achieved with the aid of other objects. Our cars are designed with balance to appeal to the buyer using symmetry.
3.    Emphasis and subordination are used to give a focal point. Color and shades often give appropriate emphasis and muted colors will identify the subordinate features. A sunset over the water gives colorful variations.
4.    Directional Lines. To carry a person’s eyes directional lines or forces are used. Energy of the lines will guide an eye to the intended action.  Many different objects or characters in art can give directional lines. Different directions can appear in the same painting to carry out the intension of the artist.  We find directional lines in grocery stores leading us to one product after another in some cases what is a preferred choice.
5.    Repetition and Rhythm. This is movement without sound.  We can follow this easier in music.  Allowing our eyes to scan a piece of art, we are able to see the direction by the repetition of characters or color. The inflection of light and dark hues tells us how to see the artist work.  Learning to read sheet music would give us a greater understanding of how repetition and rhythm sounds in art.
6.    Contrast is an easy way to bring emphasis and style together.  The use of certain brush strokes can give effects of different hues and make subordinates softer.  Contrast can be achieved with lines of colors, boarders or in repetition of colors. A contrast can give a bold emphasis or softly lead from one object to another.  We see contrast in a flower bed of roses.  Who could choose which one is more beautiful, each color stands in contrast to the others.
7.    Scale and Proportion. A decision on scale becomes the first in creating a pi3ece of art. We learn of proportions in math and our personal relationships. In a painting or figure of art, scale can be true to life or distorted to achieve an affect.  Our art book has many pictures that have been scaled down to fit the material, causing us to lose many finer details.  However, to view the picture in true size we gain a wealth of appreciation. Billboards are made so large they get our attention and the message is often exaggerated.

HENRY OSSAWA TANNER, THE BANJO LESSON 1893, OIL ON CANVAS, 49″X 351/2″, PAGE 373 [FIG 21.15]
Humanistic content, Tanner’s The Banjo Lesson tells a story of poverty, simplicity and deprivation. Amidst that is heart warming connection of two individuals that command the attention rather than the humble setting.  The light source displays a warm alliance between student and teacher.  Nearly monochromatic, earth tones cover the planks of the wood floor, with different hues.  The contrast of colors of yellow rags and blue shadows in the background breakup the . Tanner’s brush strokes on the background and trappings are varied, but on the face he shows great sensitivity. The definition of the face, curve of cheeks are showing such a bond  between the man and boy. Although each individual is different the likeness of clothing and facial expression balances the home setting.  The vague clarity of the background of the home, pots on the floor, pictures on the wall barely visible, soft tones of bright light all leads your eyes back to the man and boy.  The home in shambles doesn't effect the deep concentration of the figures.  The light beams actually lead to the fact this is a happy time for both man and boy.
CONNECTING ART TO YOUR WORLD
Color Affect!  This question gave me a chance to really think about colors.  I’ve never felt as some people say blue makes them calm or yellow makes them feel agitated.  I found I really enjoy all c colors equally.  Trying to analyze my feelings toward different colors I reviewed Chapter 3, then looked through my clothes closet and saw such variety, hues and intensity.  I look at the variety in life, creation and nature, truly enjoying all facets of color.  Not feeling drawn to any one color or shade.  As for a color scheme for life, it varies as does with design. I can say I don't feel there is a color preference in my life, but I totally enjoy color.

Welcome to Myakka State Park, bike riding at the park is a way to relax and enjoy nature. Our family enjoys this, in fact, we have every type bike available. I am not really afraid of alligators from a distance but I thought the point could be easily understood.  I have a great deal of respect for creatures of nature and worry about how we encroach on their habitat.

The black and white allowed the viewer to scan the picture without being stopped by the beauty of color images. The picture in this case seems more dramatic in black and white than if it was in color.  This color photo would not be enjoyed as much in black and white.  The display of colors, even with a grey sky and water being off white, still is a garden seen everyone enjoys. To do color or black and white is a artist choice to appeal to the emotion of the picture.

Strawberry Summer by Melissa Brayden
*The copy provided by NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books Inc. in exchange for an honest review* I read all if Melissa Brayden’s book and this one is just as good as all of her other books! She has a way of building characters and make the reader feel with them. With her books I always go through rollercoaster rides emotionally and this one was no exceptions. I loved the two main characters and also…

History of typography
Typefaces and letterforms are a very important part of the society we live in, it is an important part of communication especially in the modern era with the popularity of social media. However Typefaces and letterforms have changed drastically over the years. An important part of the history of typefaces and letterforms is the printing press. Johannes Gutenberg is often credited as the inventor of the printing press however there are reports of people using something similar to the printing press way before Johannes Gutenberg did. This does not mean what Gutenberg did was not revolutionary, Gutenberg used movable type to create Europe’s first book which was a forty two line bible. This of course was revolutionary because it allowed for more books to be made in Europe which has made a big impact on our society and the way we live as books are still a massive part of our lives today. Even in today with the massive use of digital media the book has still proven itself useful in our modern lives and has adapted to the digital era with eBooks and audio books. With everything changing over the years the style and look of typefaces has also changed over the years as well. Over the years I think typefaces and fonts have become a lot clearer and easier to read in their style and look. For example earlier typefaces and fonts had a lot more curves and uses serifs. Serifs are the little lines at the end of strokes of letters. However most modern day typefaces and fonts are sans serif and have simpler shapes so they are easier to read and are still distinguishable from each other.
A good example of this would be Google’s logo, the original logo which was used in 1999 was 3D and used shadows however they changed it in 2010 to look 2D and got rid of the shadows this gave the logo a more cleaner look and did not have as much detail, this also fit the trend for that time. Google then decided to change their logo again in 2015 by getting rid of the serifs and making it bold. This is a much simpler look to the original which is good because it’s easier to look at. Google’s new logo also fit in with its parent company Alphabet Inc. which allows the customers to associate the two companies together. An important part of style and look of a typeface is bold and italic styles. Bold makes the type thicker whereas italic makes the type thinner. Italic is commonly used to make text look more classical as early typefaces were often very thin, however bold is often used to add emphasis to words as it stands out more. Another important part of style and look is serifs and sans serifs. In early typefaces they used a lot of serifs so now if you want a classier look to your text you can pick a typeface with serifs.
A lot of typefaces nowadays are sans serif which is a typeface with no serifs, this gives the text a clearer and simpler look which is why it is so commonly used in the modern era. Modern screens have so many pixels that we can have so many different styles and shapes in our typefaces that a lot of the fonts we use nowadays look very different from each other, this was not the case decades ago. When computers and other similar devices were first released they did not have as many pixels as we do have today so they could not have as much detail in their typefaces. Text on these devices would look very blocky due to lack of pixels. This was very noticeable in early game systems. This style has been adapted in today’s culture to give things a more retro feel and it is a very iconic look.
Modern day software has changed how typefaces are created. With popular software like Birdfont and Calligrphr it has allowed more people to create fonts which has allowed for more jobs in the digital design business. There is a high demand for this as well with many small businesses wanting logos designed.

Fury's Bridge by Brey Willows Series: Afterlife Inc.: #1 Read: February 2017 Rating: 4.68 Stars
*I received this book from NetGalley, and Bold Strokes Books in return for a fair review.* Genre/tags: Fantasy Location: Earth; USA; California; Santa Monica, Los Angeles, Cal State Characters: Main - Selene Perkton (philosophy professor at Cal State, specifically a trans-human philosophy person), Alectho 'Alec' Graves (Avenging fury) Side characters : Zed (Alec's boss); Tis & Meg (sisters of Alec); Frey Falconi (famous philosopher dude who a) 'makes philosophy accessible to the masses' and b) wants to start a movement with Selene); Mika (Selene's long term (multiple year) girlfriend who is very logical, coldish, and 'exact' (7 means 7, if Mika arrives somewhere she is expected at 7 and she arrives at 6:42, she'll stand outside starring at her watch until 7). Storyline: The furies wander around 'punishing' the bad, one of Alec's jobs. Selene is teaching while struggling with her cold logical robot, I mean girlfriend; and with a man who wants her to join him in a 'movement' (Frey). Unbeknownst to Selene, she is also 'needed' by the furies, and that's one of Alec's main jobs - to 'get her'. This is not your normal kind of urban/paranormal fantasy. At least not mine. Most of the urban/paranormal fantasies I’ve read include such things as vampires, shifters (mostly werewolves, but occasionally others) and the occasional other ‘odd-ball’. Most of those, even the few that include demons and angels (oddly enough) do not actually delve that deeply into religious matters. Oh, there might be the occasional comment by a vampire about churches, or crosses or the like, but mostly in a ‘that’s fiction, this is real life’ kind of way. This book here is different – religion plays a massive role in this book. Selene Perkton is a philosophy professor and is involved in attempting to ‘raise up’ humans, to get them to evolve to the next level. Something that doesn’t have to ‘rely’ on the ‘superstitious crutches of the past.’ This is why she was contacted by a fast rising pop-philosophy star, Frey Falconi. Falconi also wants to help break humans free from the taint of religion, in his words (Selene is less ‘breaking free from taint’ and more ‘letting people live their lives, those that believe believe, but making sure everyone has the full information’), and he wants Selene to join him in his mission. Frey, and to a certain lesser extent Selene, see humans as basically good – and freed from religion, can reach great heights (which, in its way, seems odd – since one of the major reasons they wish to break people away from religion is because so much ‘bad stuff’ has been done by ‘bad people’ pretending to be acting in ‘insert deity’s name here’ name; remove deities, they’d use some other cloak/cover for their bad actions). And there has been a relatively steady decrease in believers. Which is somewhat unfortunate, at least it is for a certain group of people who happen to work out of an office building just off the beach in Santa Monica California. They work for Afterlife Inc. And they are gods, goddess, and various other assorted religious types. And they are starting to fade – actually many have already faded. For the power of man creates them, and the lack of belief causes them to fade away, to poof. There is this prophesized oracle, though, indicating that a certain someone will save them. That someone being Selene – the ‘rational thinking atheist’. The other lead in this story is sent out to ‘get her’ to join their side – that being Alectho Graves, one of the three furies. This was a very interesting story. Quite enjoyable. Not one I’ve read a million different versions of under different names, but something more unique. Though, no, it isn’t completely original. I thought as I read that I’ve read some similar things. Like Bill Willingham’s Fables series (there the power of ‘fame’ creates beings; here the power of ‘belief’ creates beings – and the lack or lessening of either takes away the power of both). Fame as in – the written word has brought to man such things as, say, the fairy tales of the Grim Brothers, which have been repetitively told by others, filmed, etc. – so such creatures as ‘Cinderella’, ‘Beauty’, ‘The Beast’, ‘the big bad wolf’ are given form and flesh; while belief, in this book here, creates literal gods).
Another thought I had while reading the book – this work did not seem like it was the first thing the writer had written. Quite well written and stuff. And I had the impression that this was the author’s first work, though I now see that ‘she has published a large handful of short stories’ part in her biography. Keeping Time: The Planning by Emily Smith Read: June 2016 Rating: 2 Stars
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books for an honest review. This is the first story I’ve read by this author. Despite that indication I went into this story with two previously implanted impressions: (1) this story is the second in that Wedding Novella series – and I liked the first; (2) before I started I noticed negative comments about the story in reviews. So I went into the story with two competing preconceptions. First impressions are important, right? 17% into the story I was annoyed. By how things were being conveyed. One of the two leads pulls the other up on stage, despite knowing that the other dislikes being in the spot light. The one pulled on stage is thinking about how much they love the other. This thinking continues. Into a scene at a bar. Weren’t we all just on stage? One asks the other if they are ready to leave. Then one signals for a taxi. We . . . did we leave the bar area yet? Is Carter assuming that a taxi will just drive into the bar area? Wait, Carter just randomly spit out an address to ‘the driver’ (no mention of a taxi or a car, maybe he will carry both of them on his back). Apparently a taxi did just drive into the bar. Going back to what I wrote above and adding specifics. Sadie Maron is the one pulled on stage, by Carter McKenna. I dive into specifics for one specific reason. Sadie mentions that she is furious about what Carter did – pulling her onto the stage. Then . . . the fury leaves her. Because . . . she’s just so lucky to be with such a gorgeous woman (okay, that isn’t the actual thinking expressed, but it is the impression given throughout the story). I mention this quick to anger, quick to forgive because it is a reoccurring thing in this story. Carter does something to anger Sadie. Sadie becomes angry. And she’s over it so quickly, Carter doesn’t always even know she’s angered Sadie. This whole ‘I’m lucky to have her’ nonsense is annoying. There’s a funny thing about mentioning things that annoy you. The morphing from scene to scene without transition was annoying. And more or less stopped instantly when I posted my status update noting this issue. I’m powerful! Hehe. Right, so. Carter McKenna comes from a super rich family. Dick of a father (where’d I see that before? Maybe every book involving people coming from rich families? Man, must suck to be from a rich family). Has a business degree. Works in a music store because she doesn’t want to sell her soul and . . . um . . not work in a music store. Also plays in a band. Still waiting for her big break with her band. Oh, and she is 32 years of age. Sadie Maron comes from . . . um . . not a rich family, though I do not recall how unrich the family might be. Both parents are described as being ‘good people’ but with a somewhat rigid set of religious beliefs. Which come in conflict with the fact that Sadie, their daughter, is a lesbian. Sadie is a teacher. And somewhere around 32. So, the point of this series. The first story involved a proposal (different characters). This one involved planning a wedding. This leads directly to how Sadie really wanted a huge wedding. And has been planning one forever and a day. Carter wants to give Sadie what she wants, though she doesn’t have the resources to do so. Sooo . . . when pops offers to pay for everything on condition of Carter jr. (I forgot to mention that pops is also Carter) coming to work for the company firm. Which leads directly to: the beginning annoyed me for its lack of transitions. The middle? Annoyed me for the relatively stupid plotline. For reasons that are beyond my ability to understand, Carter believes that the thing to do to/with/for her beloved is to lie to her. For her own good. Or some reason like that. Meaning? She not only doesn’t tell Sadie that she took a job with McKenna Inc, she also lies constantly about where she is located. Carter made a couple decision without including her beloved. But Carter has a history of doing shit like that – like pulling Sadie up on stage early in the book. To complicate matters – the middle of the book also includes an ex-girlfriend of Carters. Wherein we learn even more about how much of a dick Carter is. Carter, apparently, is the kind to date a woman, fuck them for a while, get bored of them, then . . . . just plain never contact them again. Never actually gets around to dumping them or anything like that. Just . . doesn’t call them or return their calls. Well, she did that with Eliza Trobani. Eliza’s so pissed that she .. . keeps rubbing herself against Carter and wants to get back together. See, Eliza and Carter dated way back in college times. Eliza works for McKenna. They bump into each other on Carter’s first day at her new job. This certainly complicates matters, eh? Man I hate this type of story-line. Wherein the woman ends up connecting up with someone who they don’t even like, but ‘don’t want to hurt their feelings’ or some shit like that, so does crap that she doesn’t want to do and doesn’t have time to do. Because . . . um . . . anyone? Bueller? No? No idea. None. I call this the ‘accidental cheating’ storyline. The kind wherein the person doesn’t want to cheat, but also doesn’t want to ‘hurt’ someone else’s feelings. I hate this story concept. And this is not the first time I’ve seen it in a story. Right. So. Didn’t particularly like how the story started (though specific source of the ‘dislike’ disappeared almost immediately), didn’t particularly like the middle and . . . what’s this? At 87% I left a status update. Indicating that I was not sure if I could finish the book. Directly related to the wedding planner. And how she was going on and on about how just perfect the two women are. Um. Hil, the wedding planner, knows that one has been lying to the other. Knows they aren’t perfect, knows . . whatever. *shrugs* I’ll go ahead and finish . . .oh. Book is over at 94% of the kindle file. Ended abruptly, it did. Right. Okay then. June 27 2016
