Reading Journal! (Part 1)
I collect journals. So why not walk through my reading journal?
Tumblr media
It's a Marshall's journal. A light pink background with a variety of mushrooms on the cover. It's is a B5 size.
Tumblr media
I added an index. I have set apart 4 pages for the index. Since I hope to use this notebook for a few years. I needed quick references for different years and all the books I read. It is noticeable that there is a tab in the upper right corner. Tabs will be used separate the years.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am using the CAWPILE rating system, first brought on by Book Roast over on YouTube. The nonfiction form of CAWPILE I took from JashiiCorrin on YouTube.
Tumblr media
I enjoy quotes. I like having easy access to them. It is why I added a section to put quotes from the books I read. I have yet to add any.
Tumblr media
The most important list for bookworms is the loved and dreaded TBR. I have multiple pages set apart from this. The list is short since I am just coming out of a slump. I hope to add more.
Tumblr media
This is the first actual notebook page. The rest was the setup. I didn't know what to do in the 2024 year page. It is why it's filled with strikers. I hope to get better at this.
Tumblr media
The book shelf to track books is cute. I made one. I plan to draw the books in as I read it. The ten list on the left is supposed to be colored, but I did not bring my colors back home. 1-3 is going to be shades of red, 4-6 is going to be shades of blue, 7-9 is going to be shades of purple and 10 is going to be a golden color.
Tumblr media
I kept my book challenge small and short. I didn't want to challenge myself too much. I struggle with reading outside of science fiction. I hope to expand on my taste. And I dislike romance. It is why I challenged myself with two romance topics.
Tumblr media
The difference with a challenge and goal is that a challenge is to do things I don't usually do, as for goals it's to accomplish and meet standards with my reading. I did put them easy to fit in my student and employee lifestyle.

Another Semester at Orillium Academy | April Readathon | + New Bullet Journal
Here we go again. Book Roast is back this year with a new school year and two semesters. And we start with the Spring Equinox Semester of course. If you want to know more about this reoccurring readathon you can find a video here explaining it all. For this one I am continuing on with the character that I had already created when this all started in the novice path. Last year I went with the…

My Novice Path Experience
I did The Novice Path forever ago now but I wanted to go over it again for memory preservations sake and also just because it creates content. I had been following the Magical Readathons that G was creating before Orilium came into her mind. So to know that she had a new world for us to explore made me so excited!
Tumblr media
My TBR at the time consisted of the following books:
The Novice Path Entrance - read a book with  a map - Highway of Tears by Jessica McDiarmid
Ashthorn Tree - a book that keeps tempting you - Namesake by Adrienne Young
The Mist of Solitude - read a standalone - The World According to Mr. Rogers by Fred Rogers
Ruin of the Skye - read a book featuring ghosts/haunted house, or other supernatural elements - Charles Fort: the Man Who Invented the Supernatural by Jim Steinmeyer
Obsidian Falls - read a thriller or mystery book - Carrie by Stephen King
Tower of Rumination - read a five star prediction - House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
Orilium Academy - read a book with a school setting - A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik
I had a relatively good experience with most of the books. My ratings were also as follows:
Highway of Tears by Jessica McDiarmid  - I loved the way the book goes through the actual people effected by this demonstration of neglect on the part of the Canadian Government. The stories were heartbreaking and the information was enlightening. The experience was a roller coaster and I learned a lot.
Namesake by Adrienne Young - This was the second book in a series so I was very excited to read it! We got a little more insight into some of the characters I adore as well as a lot of really interesting additions. I have the third book and I promise its on my TBR but I just haven’t gotten to it yet! I will though! eventually....
The World According to Mr. Rogers by Fred Rogers - I am of the generation that could actually watch Mr. Rogers (a.k.a OLD) and I really enjoyed this book. It was short and sweet and it gave me a sense of nostalgia and calm. It wasn’t the most fantastic thing I have ever read but it was a nice intermission in the readathon.
Charles Fort: The Man Who invented the Supernatural by Jim Steinmeyer - This book was incredibly interesting for what felt like no reason. Charles Fort is a surprisingly interesting man. He just kind of slowly goes crazy but also he was really creative and probably just suffering from mental illness. I really enjoyed this biography.
Carrie by Stephen King - I liked this one less than some of his other books from this era. However, it wasn’t bad by any means! I prefer the book to the movies (what else is new?) and I didn’t hate the way King wrote his female protagonist so I was satisfied overall.
House in the Cerulean Sea - One of my new favorite books of all time. I have read this book four times since The Novice Path. I am SO happy I read this book and I recommend it to so many people every time it enters my mind. Beautiful settings, wonderful characters, great morals, SO PURE but so real at the same time. One of the best books I have EVER read. READ IT.
A Deadly Education - The opposite of Cerulean Sea. I hated the characters, I hated the setting and I hated the plot. I ended the month with this book and I was genuinely disappointed to end on such a terrible note. I promised I would never pick up another book her Novik after reading this.
________________________________________________________________
My responses to the scenarios:
B: I know not to mess with any writing I cannot decipher so I don’t approach it. But I also do not leave without quickly copying a few symbols on a piece of parchment as I pass it, to try and look up later.
D: I try to calm my breathing, minimize feedback by closing my eyes and focus on my hands and feet. I establish a connection with earth and let it guide me towards the end of the mist.
D: I activate a protection glyph to shield both myself and my group.
A: Find a herbal remedy nearby, there's always one if you know what to look for! You have might try a few but if you know your plants, you’ll find a combination before time runs out!
A: Scroll of Lore
I ended up with the guild Order of the Crescent and was incredibly happy with that result!
________________________________________________________________
The Novice Path in general was a great experience and if this readathon ever comes to an end I can see myself repeating it with different character creation processes in the future!
HEY!
Tell me about your character? How was your journey on the novice path? what’s up dawg?
Thanks for reading and I hope everyone has a good day/night!
Best wishes,
Chelsey

Inspired by @gloomspiral's Pozeidi and that one IRL story of the two Chinese fic authors who had a sort-of rivalry due to their opposing writing styles. And then one of them got tsundere when the other was sick and stopped updating

Wheel of Time Characters and the Cars They'd Drive
Written by someone who knows extremely little about cars
Rand: The poor boy buys like a standard issue sedan and then a bunch of weirdos start following him around and telling him that the car is "special." Moiraine spray paints dragon decals on his car one night while he's sleeping. People keep trying to slash his tires but he always catches them just in time. You know how it goes
Perrin: Pickup truck with normal sized wheels. Great for helping people move! Also great for running people over. Duality of man etc etc. There's always a dog in the back sticking its head out the window, but Perrin does not know this dog or where it came from
Nynaeve: She buys a used car that looks like it's falling apart and everyone tells her that she overpaid. Four months in, they realize that the last owner did a bunch of Fast and Furious style modifications and Nynaeve could probably outrace God
Mat: Bike. This SHOULD NOT WORK but somehow he's still on time to everything. This baffles everyone, including him
Egwene: Something VERY practical with great gas mileage, like a honda civic. That's the only practical car I know because it's what my dad told me to buy.
Elayne: Lexus. Mat makes fun of her for driving a luxury car and she's like "????? it's not like it's a Cadillac?"
Liandrin: A Cadillac
Moiraine: A jeep, but the nicest most upgraded version. Unless there's a car that's better for off-roading, in which case she drives that instead
Lan: A cool classic car. A car that can drift (maybe all cars can drift but Lan's definitely can). He thinks that Nynaeve's car is The Coolest for some reason
Lanfear: A horse! Just kidding. She drives a silver range rover because an article I googled said that range rovers are the king of the road.
Bonus:
Asmodean: the car type Does Not Matter all that matters is that he has a vanity license plate

'We float for Macragge.' That is the cutest quote ever omg. Thank you for blessing me with this, I'd never seen the meme before. The blueberries are so charming sometimes 🥺 -anon that likes excerpts
It's one of the less popular iconic WH40k memes, but I see people reference it sometimes. Here's some more funnies because I like forcing people to read this stuff.
There's also the fucking hilarious scene of an astartes with new terminator armor falling through a floor, and his buddy has to call a crew with a crane to get him out, which is fucking hysterical. (master of sanctity)
‘Some kind of sub-level here,’ reported Daellon. ‘Descending.’ ‘Wait!’ yelled Telemenus, but his warning came too late. The audio pick-ups brought the sound of splintering woods and crumbling ferrocrete followed by an almighty crash. Daellon cursed without pause over the vox. ‘Report,’ barked Arbalan. ‘Brother Daellon misjudged the load bearing of some internal stairs, brother-sergeant,’ said Telemenus, trying not to laugh. For once he was glad somebody else was attracting the negative scrutiny. There was a chuckle from Cadmael and a sigh from Arbalan. ‘Daellon, can you climb out?’ asked the sergeant. ‘Negative, a three metre drop at least. The floor will not hold my weight to pull myself up.’ ‘No threats detected,’ Telemenus added, his auspex sensors encompassing the long row of huts. ‘Understood,’ said Arbalan. He sounded impatient. ‘Daellon, remain in place, I will signal for an armoury extraction team. Telemenus, rejoin the squad.'
There's also a book I don't remember where a group of baseline humans are descending from tight steps with an astartes, and are VERY concerned at the creaking of the stairs from his weight. Chunky boi
Also here's Guilliman making a joke in Armour of Fate about him being stuck in this massive bulky armor and Sicarius just, doesn't get it. This moment was another reason why I always recommend Dark Imperium to people, it just kind of gets Guilliman and how different he is from his legion now.
Sheaves of blueprints were scattered across the desk in front of him. He spotted something of interest written on one and reached for it, gritting his teeth against the purring of the suit. He always reached with his right hand. The integration points for the Hand of Dominion on his left made picking anything up nigh on impossible, even with the over gauntlet and its underslung bolter removed. Day-to-day tasks such as this were a struggle. His armoured fingers pushed at slick plastek. Ceramite skidded across the papers, knocking them to the ground in wafting flutters. ‘Oh, for the love of…’ he grumbled as he bent awkwardly to pick them up. The Armour of Fate was bulky. As its waist joint prevented him from flexing his spine and reaching the floor, he had to kneel. He reached for the scattered flimsies. Fingertips failed to grasp the sheets, sending them fleeing in small armadas over the polished floor. He growled in frustration, abandoned his task and stood, drawing a curious look from Sicarius. ‘I have the manual dexterity of a Legio Cybernetica battle automaton!’ Guilliman said. ‘Created by the Lord of All Mankind, master of the greatest armies in the Imperium, and I cannot pick up a plastek flimsy.’ He glared at the offending articles. ‘My greatest enemy.’ There was a thoughtful quiet. ‘You are joking, my lord?’ said Sicarius. Guilliman looked at Sicarius. He had to turn all the way around to do so. The pauldrons, ornamental wings and large halo mounted on his back made it impossible for him to see over his shoulder. At least he had stopped knocking into things. There was that. ‘By the Throne, why am I expected to be serious at all times? Yes, Captain Sicarius, I am making light of my predicament. During the worst of the Great Crusade, I was known to make the occasional jest. Even after Terra fell. I did not spend my entire previous life writing deep thoughts into little notebooks, but sometimes dared to enjoy myself. I suppose that was not recorded in the hagiographies.’ ‘Humour is not something you are renowned for, my lord.’ ‘My time in this new age has revealed that to me amply.’
I have way too many random book moments stuck in my head. And not enough space for actual useful information.

The ever buzzing Novice Path Outpost has never witnessed a silence so true. Seems like even the wind got the message, coming to a halt and leaving everyone with a weird sense of something being amiss. The only quiet sound is of unfolding parchment scrolls, hushed and heavy whispers of goodbyes dictated to the messenger crows to be carried to the loved ones, nervous tappings and pacings. Yet the loudest of all was the understanding that not everyone here will reach the end of the Path. But you know you will. You must. This is the moment you’ve been preparing for. And although your insides are made of iron and at this particular point you seem to require conscious thought for basic functioning - such as breathing,  you burn not only with fear but with want and excitement. I got this, you tell yourself. You notice an elderly elf sigh, clap his hands, and rise from his barrel-bench entirely ignoring the muffled sound of someone very unmistakably throwing up in a bush. “Oh look at you all. I’ve seen your shenanigans in the last couple of days, I find this silence of the oddest kind. You’re embarking on an adventure, for Elidor’s sake! It’s a tale in the making! Riddle me this, what’s a journey without some danger? Just a boring ass afternoon walk, that’s what. And nobody would want to hear that told. Come now, I am old and wise, and therefore I must give great advice!” a few Skaimorn exchanged a grin. “The best thing to do when you don’t know what to do at all...is dance. Remember how you got here?”. And just like that he whips out a lute from his robes as if that’s a totally normal thing to do, and starts to sing a song known to all. A song that started it all, one every child dreaming of becoming a great sorcerer hummed day and night, like a prayer to be answered, a dream manifested. At the center of it all A crater full of promise Oh it calls us, can you hear A song that rings so honest For those who listen And those who dream A time to journey’s risen A time to journey’s risen Not a river and not a maze A simple Path not simply made Come one, come all, don’t stay behind The urge will never truly fade The Novice Path awaits your mind Your pride and greed must stay behind Now walk the trials, play the part To help unearth those pure of heart And the words ring true as one by one, young and old, with the help of a crutch or a nod of the head - everyone joined in dancing, singing frenzy, stomping and laughing around a massive bonfire, ridding themselves of the anxiety and living in this weird moment. An air Earthling almost set fire to the tumbleweeds, flexing his massive wings to the melody, a little carried away.  A group of Iltirians pulling off the most ridiculous of dance moves, a few elves getting very much too drunk with the dwarves - they’ll pay for that tomorrow. Even the light dixies, summoned by a skilled human, joined in, creating such a beautiful and bizarre ambience! And everyone...well, partied! Very much in the middle of nowhere, scared out of their minds, surrounded by giant mountains with no civilization in sight yet hopeful, happy and with a huge promise on their minds. And so the most silent night became a wild one, which, from the side looks of the outpost guards was not a usual sight. You swear, as you awkwardly stumble to your tent at dawn, you hear one of them whisper “erm...what a lot this year...” Yes we are, you think with a fond smile, glancing back at your newly met friends. That, and the dwarven barrel jumping competition that occured not half an hour ago, makes the jab justified. And as thoughts go, this is not a bad one to fall asleep to. Not bad at all.
