In 2024 I want to further distance myself from Amazon so I'm looking for alternative book trackers to Goodreads.
I'm mad autistic for lists and data collection so that's what I look for the most but the social aspect is also ok. Currently thinking of Storygraph, I heard that one mentioned a lot.

Bookworm to Rockstar Reader: Library Stamp for Students
Bookworm to Rockstar Reader: Library Stamp for Students
In today’s digital age, fostering a love for reading is crucial. A Library Stamp can be an exciting tool for students, helping them track their reading progress and stay engaged with books. Whether it’s for fun or education, these personalized stamps can play a key role in transforming a bookworm into a "rockstar" reader.
What is a Library Stamp?
A library stamp is a customizable tool, often used to mark books or reading logs. Personalized with a student’s name or a fun design, it makes the reading experience more interactive and enjoyable. While traditionally used by libraries, these stamps are a great addition to students’ personal collections.
Why Library Stamps Matter
Track Progress: Library stamps help students visualize their reading journey, making it easier to celebrate milestones.
Increased Engagement: A personalized stamp adds a sense of ownership to a student’s books and reading materials.
Organization: Stamps encourage students to keep track of borrowed books and stay responsible.
Motivation: Milestone stamps or rewards for reading achievements boost motivation and make reading fun.
How Library Stamps Help in Schools
In schools, library stamps can be a great motivational tool. They encourage students to participate in reading challenges, track their progress, and add creativity to their learning experience. Teachers can use stamps to reward achievements or challenge students to explore different genres. Library stamps also make excellent personalized gifts for students, celebrating their reading milestones.
Conclusion
Library stamps are more than just a tool for tracking books—they are a fun and engaging way to foster a love of reading. By turning the reading process into a more personal and rewarding experience, these stamps help students progress from bookworms to rockstar readers.

does anyone know of any websites/apps that allows you to track books similar to letterboxd i.e. cover collaging? I really would love a minimalist way to look at my tbr

I learned what a bullet journal was by watching a few YouTube artists set theirs up and my algorithm spiraled out of control from there so I guess I have all the bujo influencers to thank for getting into it because it has been a godsend so far on my third attempt, but damn if the over emphasis on aesthetic over the actual practical organizational aspect of it doesn't rankle me a bit
[thirty rambling tags later] huh. I didn't know there was a thirty tag limit in all the years I've been on tumblr. Whatevs I can't copy paste the tags onto the main body because I'm on mobile and I don't want to write it out again so I'll just summarize the last bit here:
If you are browsing the bujo tag because you feel bullet journaling will help you but you feel intimated because you don't think you can make it look pretty, or that the bullet journal method could never help you because it looks exhausting or the inspo you see doesn't cover what you need, I am pleading with you to ignore all the pretty inspiration, take the most common and even original Ryder Carroll formats and spreads with a grain of salt and eliminate or change them as needed, and talk to people who have similar needs than you even if they don't bujo and suss out what's important to keep track of. My bujo is eighty percent important medical bullshit, because that's what I need more than a book tracker. You prolly have your own unique needs. And hell, if you want a book tracker then add a booktracker. It's your bujo to format and plan out.
So like if you want to start bullet journaling, go to Michaels and get a seven dollar Artist's Loft dot grid journal. Or a binder you have left over from school years past and print out your own dot grid paper if you have enough ink and paper and printer that can do double sided (Kevin McLeod's site I forget the name of has free adjustable dot and other grids I've used), or buy a pack of 8.5x11 dot grid paper, and grab a crappy hole punch that just barely does the job. Get yourself a nice pen you think looks and feels nice in your hand and on the paper–or if that doesn't matter to you go get pack of Bics or even pencil if that's what you prefer (I use a pencil for things I can't have be permanent, like temporary meds or the dates of yearly vaccines). If you're twitchy about messing up then get the cheapest wite out they have (but don't worry about messing up especially if you're not even showing it off to anybody). A cheap yellow highlighter if you think it'll help. And a ruler if straight lines are important to you. I lost mine so I just wobble my lines now I don't care (and it's marginally easier to get a line adjacent to straight with a dot grid)
Anyway. If you want to bullet journal but don't know where to start or how to make it pretty or how to make it work for your needs, just try it in the cheapest way possible and rearrange the guts of the bujo as you see fit. And don't worry about the optics as long as you can make sense of your methods and writing.
(and for the love of God if you're bipolar don't make an hourly mood tracker yes our moods can and will fluctuate throughout the day but goddamn was that a bitch to log and abandoned a few weeks after inking it out)
#i see this with in regular journaling/diary circles too#people saying 'i want to start a bujo/diary but I'm not good enough at art ☹️'#like more power to you if you can make it pretty but it shouldn't be the primary emphasis especially with how useful it is#(it's especially depressing with just regular diaries and journals because like. you're under no obligation to share that shit with anybody)#I'm on my third bujo attempt because i got overwhelmed with my first two because i didn't know how to customize it with me and my needs#the most i got about symptom tracking was like a weekly layout checking off if the criteria was hit#and mood tracking was like daily smiley or frowny face in the corner#like my siblings in planning that is not enough for my chronically ill bipolar ass lol#i went way overboard my first attempt with just mood tracking. i planned it out HOURLY. every week#and that got overwhelmingly tedious and i use overwhelmingly deliberately. so i just stopped mood tracking#and then the whole thing got overwhelming so i stopped it entirely#gave it another shot because my method of scheduling things and symptom tracking was to write appointments and symptoms on post its#and pray they didn't fall off and i could remember where i even put them#and i see a lot of doctors so that was a LOT post its to keep track of#so i did another bujo but had the same problem as lack of resources and inspo and how to make it work for my needs#plus future logs were hard to parse AND i often felt too tired to lay out a new month or two every time#so like there were just whole months and the symptoms and appointments within just missing and i might as well not even have a bujo#so i stopped that one too#FINALLY after a little bit more watching Ryder Carroll and looking at prefab medical planners that were still woefully inadequate#AND MORE IMPORTANTLY talking to my fellow chronically ill. mentally ill. disabled. or all three. friends on what i should jot down#i finally got a system that worked for me thus far#i got rid of even staples like future logs and just laid out a monthly calendar format because that was easier FOR ME#and i laid out the year in advance so i could still have the scheduling part of i was too tired to do entire layouts at the beginning of the#month#my mood tracker was merged with my symptom tracker and turned into a symptoms *list*#with a section for every specialist i see. mood stuff just went under psych/therapist#also i switched to a binder format instead of a bound book for even more flexibility#i can easily remove things i no longer need. i can rearrange what goes in what section. i can easily add more to a section before the next#bujo#bullet journal

the reason why im holding back from using all the booktracking apps is because i almost never know how to rate a book in a point system because like theres aspects like enjoyment and then theres aspects like if i got sth out of it. like sometimes id read a book and maybe id like some of it but some of it would piss me off but then id try putting down a finger on what exactly pissed me off abt it and start analyzing it more closely. and in the end maybe my enjoyment during reading wasnt the highest but the fact that it made me think makes me glad i pulled myself through it. so how many stars out of ten would that be

"Sophie had waited all her life to be kidnapped."
Yep...I can already tell this is going to be wild read-
...
How to cook children...OKAY...
Tumblr media
SOOO..so far, I read 89 pages today (weird cuz I usually read more pages than that. But hey, maybe it just wasn't my day today.)
And eh, I knew that the moment I purchased the series, it wasn't something I would usually read, since it is related to fairy-tales and stuff...
But hey, I'm willing to give it a try :P
Tumblr media
(also, I was only reading it cuz I couldn't find my Aru Shah book.... I TRIED TO FIND IT EVERYWHERE...but it's not there. It's like someone gobbled it up or something 😀)
(I wish a booktracker exists...)

april review
books read: 3 * the harpy by megan hunter * mister magic by kiersten white * the grip of it by jac jemc (re-read)
movies watched: 19 * favorite first-watches: poor things, late night with the devil * favorite re-watches: mean girls, the cleansing hour * new obsession: stand-up
also: lots of lana del rey, marina & the diamonds, mormon stories, colors of the dark, the booktrack edition of rebecca by daphne du maurier, and the x-files
if my theme for the year is to be more discerning about the choices i make, i suppose my decision to stop tracking any of my habits by the second week of the month could be considered successful?
it hasn't been a bad month by any means, although i was quite sick this past week, but it's definitely been a doozy! my second class for my MA wrapped up last week, and i'm finishing my term paper this week; i'm not taking a summer course, so i'm looking forward to a relaxing few months.
i did land on a solid topic for my eventual thesis -- i'm going to be looking at haunted houses in some form, and i'm hoping i'll get approval to do a house of psychotic women-style manuscript about housing and books about houses -- and my currently unfinished term paper will hopefully turn into a chapter. i'm writing about the grip of it by jac jemc as a postcolonial haunted house narrative, but the journey to get there with the paper was disrupted by some theoretical approach issues that i don't need to drone on about here!
my specific goals absolutely did not pan out but i've been careful about checking in on whether it's an actual problem or not, so i'm not too upset. i think i have to DNF the satanic verses and come back to it some day, it's honestly too dense and far above my pay grade right now! it's going to be my white whale probably.
may plans
i'm going to take a cue from my writing goals (which you can read about at my writeblr @catchingbigfish) and not try to be too set in stone with my goals. i'm enjoying making things with my hands (i got into cross stitch finally!), watching a lot of movies and the x-files, and spending my lunch breaks outside by the water working on crafts and listening to audiobooks and podcasts. i have some minor ideas of where i want to go this month:
* read the haunting of alejandra by v. castro, finish rebecca by daphne du maurier, and house of leaves by mark z. danielewski (i'm so terrible at reading paper books, it's wild);
* finish the cool cross stitch pattern i got based on the witch and maybe sew a skirt or two?; and
* do more yoga lol

2018 Book Tracking - 4th Quarter & Yearly Totals
2018 has come to a close and for me, at least in terms of reading, its been a really successful year. Firstly, let me sum up my 4th quarter reading totals:
Books Read: 20
Pages Read: 5058
Audio Hours: 163h 35m
Adult Books: 10
YA Books: 10
Midgrade Books: 0
Physical Books Read: 13
Audio Books Read: 7
E-Books Read: 0
Not bad numbers at all - down in the physical from the 3rd quarter, but overall pretty good (especially considering I work in retail, at Christmas).
I’m really, really pleased with the overall Yearly totals that I racked up. This being the first year I’ve ever actually tracked my reading I think I did exceptionally well. I don’t necessarily expect to do as well in 2019 (I cleared a lot of midgrade novels at the beginning of 2018 which bumped my numbers up significantly) but I at least have something of a benchmark to compare against.
2018 Totals:
Books Read: 99
Pages Read: 21,442
Audio Hours: 630h 40m
Adult Books Read: 59
YA Books Read: 22
Midgrade Books Read: 18
Physical Books Read: 66
Audio Books Read: 31
E-Books Read: 2
I’m excited to see what 2019 brings in my reading adventures. I’m hoping to do a lot more e-books this year and a few more ARCs (I’ll be tracking those numbers in 2019 as well). Hopefully I’ll be better about reviewing everything I’m reading as well, so there will be more posts about amazing and fantastic books!

Let's track 2022 in books ...
Let’s track 2022 in books …
I have read far too few books or listened to audio books in the past year. I have to change that ! Especially since it is already quite lonely here at the end of the universe. So I will pass the time with books and their tracking. I put a book tracker in a diary at the beginning of the year and started immediately with the Witcher Saga. I now have all the audio books about the witcher Geralt and…

January Book Tracker
This is my first time doing this but new year, new way of keeping track of books! Thanks to @waytooseriousabouteverything for the format that I'm stealing :)
Tress of the Emerald Sea: This was the first one of the Brandon Sanderson Kickstarter books and it was SO GOOD. I read it in 2 sittings on accident because I just couldn't put it down. I love the main character (Glorp but she goes by Tress) and her voice - she didn't think she was a hero but kept doing braver and braver things while insisting she wasn't a hero until the end when she's like WAIT... I AM a hero. It was so good and very trope subversive for fantasy. Speaking of fantasy, the magic system was so cool and interesting!! Definitely my fav book of the month, Brandon Sanderson rarely misses for me. Looking forward to the other 3 coming this year!
The Eye of the World: Okay, I did not finish this book. I was having a hard time getting into it, and I mostly started it because I knew Brandon Sanderson finished the series but then I realized there's like 20 books in this series and I just couldn't do it. They're so long. There's so many. I can't.
This Woven Kingdom: I recognized the author name when I saw this and got excited BUT I was wrong about which author it was, so that was disappointing. The plot was very tired but the setting was interesting (Plot: Djinn and humans live together but the human oppress the Djinn, who are magic BUT magic is illegal OF COURSE. Our heroes are the last Djinn queen - who is working as a servant and is the most magic out of anybody- and the human prince of their super oppressive fascist kingdom who falls in love with her instantly) Another bummer was the way Tehereh Mafi writes is really distracting to me, like WAY too many descriptive words and everyone is so dramatic all the time. Extremely cool cover art tho.
Gods of Jade and Shadow: This one I read on @ariestip's recommendation and it was SO fun! It was historical fiction/fantasy set in Mexico, which was new for me. The plot was also pretty unique a human girl and a god become bound together and have to travel across 1920's Mexico to restore his godhood, but the longer they stay bound, the more human he gets. The ending surprised me and was kinda sad, but I really liked it. Definitely will be looking into other books by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
The Empress of Salt and Fortune: Also from @ariestip's list, this was a short story told as memories being recorded by an archivist. The old woman telling the story recounts her time as the handmaiden and confident of a banished empress. It's set in a fantasy location based on imperial China and it gave so many hints about the larger world, I wanted it to be longer! It was VERY good, and also one of the few books I've read with a character with they/them pronouns which really threw me for a second until I figured out what was happening lol but once I got it I appreciated the representation!
Hunger Pangs (+ Crewel Intentions): I finally checked out @thebibliosphere's book! Of course, I got the flirting with fangs edition with all the steamy scenes :) I really enjoyed this one! It felt like the author had a lot of fun writing it and felt very self-indulgent (in the best way) so I had fun reading it. I loved Vlad and his projects and schemes (very relatable) and that it had a happy ending! It did feel like the stakes never got too high, and the saving the world plot point was wrapped up very quickly, but I didn't really have a problem with that since it was more about the romance. Can't wait for the sequel!
Blade Breaker: I really liked the Red Queen series when I read it a few years ago, so I was excited that Victoria Aveyard had a new series, but I had a hard time finishing the first one and I might not even finish this sequel. I don't even know why, I'm just not really into it!
Wow this got long! January has me at 5 books so far, not counting DNFs, and no rereads (yet). Kind of a slow month, but I've been job hunting all month so
