3.2.24 | It rained the entire morning & soaked through the afternoon, so I went to a used bookstore. I was happy to find some very cheap Wordsworth editions of Blake, Keats, & Shelley for my Big Six Romantic poets study next month in honor of National Poetry Month & napowrimo. I already have Wordsworth & Coleridge; only Lord Byron left (& nobody ever has him). I also picked up Wide Sargasso Sea, Ann Radcliffe's The Italian (with a Pokémon card tucked into the second chapter), & Emily Wilson's translation of The Odyssey. I love rainy days. ♡ 𝑁𝑜𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑖

Book #4 of 2023 📖 “Disciplines of Grace” ✍🏻 Jerry Bridges 📚Christian Living ⭐️ 4/5 Quote: “Run, John, run the law commands. But gives me neither feet nor hands. Better news the gospel brings- it bids me fly and gives me wings!” Discipline and grace are not two words I would normally interchange or expect to see in the same sentence. Yet such is the Christian life as Jerry Bridges explains in his exposition of the role grace plays in our pursuit of holiness. Just as both wings of an airplane are crucial for flight, this book reminds us that the exercise of both discipline and dependence is absolutely necessary in our walks as children of the King. What I liked most about this book was that everything led back to the gospel. The gospel shaped each truth shared and fueled each encouragement written. I’ve heard many times from various Christian teachers to “Preach the gospel to yourself daily” and reading this book was such a practical and spiritually refreshing way to do that. Titus 2:11-12 says “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. Summer 2023 holds exciting prospects for me as I embark on a journey of personal and academic development. In this article, I will outline my goals and aspirations for the summer, focusing on programming, exploration, and self-improvement.

Part 1: Programming Skills Enhancement During the summer, I aim to refine my programming skills and connect them to my academic and professional goals. Here are my planned activities:

Review Java language concepts to strengthen my foundation.

Dive deeper into Java APIs, such as JavaFX, to learn graphical user interface (GUI) development.

Prepare for the upcoming semester by familiarizing myself with GUI programming techniques.

Showcase my programming prowess by uploading training projects to GitHub, fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge with fellow developers.

Part 2: Cultural Enrichment and Reading Reading is a gateway to intellectual growth, and I have set ambitious reading goals for the summer. Here's what I have in mind:

My target is to read 35 books, with a particular focus on novels that transport me to new worlds and perspectives.

I have dedicated five hours each day to immerse myself in captivating stories, expanding my horizons and broadening my understanding of diverse cultures.

To foster my creative mind, I will incorporate photography into my summer routine, even though I have yet to discover a specific passion in this art form. Through capturing images, I hope to train my eye for aesthetics and develop my creative instincts.

Part 3: Health and Well-being A holistic approach to personal growth encompasses physical well-being. Thus, I have outlined the following plans for a healthier summer:

I commit to regular workouts, engaging in exercise routines four days a week. This will enhance my fitness levels and boost my energy and focus.

Proper nutrition is a priority, and I will ensure a balanced and healthy diet to nourish my body and maintain optimal health.

As I eagerly anticipate Summer 2023, I am driven by the desire to accomplish my goals and cultivate personal growth. With my programming endeavors, literary explorations, creative pursuits, and focus on well-being, I am poised for a summer filled with learning, self-discovery, and positive transformations. Here's to an enriching and fulfilling summer ahead!

What books would you love to see adapted into film/tv series? 😍🍂📚 . We are still hanging on to hope that the A Chorus of Dragons series will make it to tv one day. 😩 The series was optioned back when book 1, The Ruin of Kings, was just coming out so our hopes are kinda slim, but no matter, we can still DREAM. 🤨🤎 . Are you looking for a story that leaves you with a good feeling? You need Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. This book has had a lot of positive buzz and I thought the beach was the perfect place to read it. This story is about Tova, a recent widow, who mourns the loss of her son and the future he’ll never have. There’s Cameron - a young man who started life at a disadvantage with a missing father and an addicted mother and can’t seem to get outof his own way. Only Marcellus (full name - Marcellus McSquiddles) a Giant Pacific Octopus 🐙 knows the connection between them and is determined to show them before his time is up. This book is about grief and family in whatever form it takes. The ending is wonderful as well as the journey to get there. (You’ll yell at Cameron a couple of times) Thanks to Ms. Van Pelt for having a Brad character that’s a good guy. (3 books in a row with a Brad 😮) Read this book. He’s written an incredible book, Winter’s Myths, and it’s a clever mix of dystopian survival, oddball comedy, invented mythology, and tear-jerking family connection. It’s so good.
