#Bount Arc

The Bount Arc features many things and one of them is a rare glimpse of a place I had previously assumed didn't even exist: The Squad 11 Captain's Office.

As I said, I generally refuse to believe that Zaraki maintains any sort of "administrative space"--I think Yumichika does all the squad paperwork on a Formica, diner-style table that somehow died and got sent to Soul Society in the "officer's lounge", which has orange shag carpeting and smells mysteriously like Miller High Life (the Champagne of Beers).

Even so, this place is beyond my wildest imaginings. The pink walls? The elegant, arcing windows, spilling natural light into the room? It's hard to tell from this shot, but the chairs are purple:

The couches look oddly like the Squad 6 couches, but they are not--the Squad 6 couches are wingbacks and don't have that wooden frame along the back and sides, and they have legs so they are up off the floor. Also, Zaraki has a very similar mysterious paperwork tray-table to the one Ginrei had in the Zanpakutou Rebellion arc. Zaraki's seems taller. Also, why is there actual paperwork on it???

I can only come up with two possible explanations for this:

Squad 11 has a Captain's Office, but Zaraki never uses it, so he let Yachiru make all the decor decisions. This would explain the pink walls, and we know she likes Byakuya's house, so maybe she cribbed the rest from him. Possibly even stole the furniture out of the dumpster the last time Squad 6 redecorated (which I assume happens, like, twice yearly)

This isn't even their office. They're just squatting in Byakuya's digs while he's out running around in Rukongai.

Update!!: A few episodes later, they were still sitting here (over the same time period that Renji, Matsumoto and Hitsugaya ran from the Seireitei to Kusajishi, for the record) and it was identified as Squad 11, so I guess option 1 is the winner!

"And we're introducing three new allied characters that will have close relationships with the main cast."

"Ok, but you'll write them out, right?"

"No. They'll be around for the rest of the series."

"Wtf? Ok, but you'll like shove them in Urahara's shop or somewhere were they won't appear often, right?"

"Yes."

"Oh thank god..."

"Expect for one, who will live in Ichigo's room with Kon."

"Wtf?!"

"And she'll take part in one of the first major scenes of the canon arc."

"WTF?!?!"

I just had to talk about the trial of Young Thug. I know next to nothing about him and as far as I read he's on trial for organizing a gang. Well another person in this case also has a lawyer who went up to defend her client and I can't believe what this lady says.

She LITERALLY starts to say her client has nothing to do with this by equating him to ANIME FILLERS. Specifically the Bount Arc from Bleach.

This is probably the strangest arguement made in any trial I have ever heard. And what does it say about the Bount Arc that someone who passed the BAR finds a way to equate "Having nothing to do with this" to how not related and not important to the story of Bleach as the fucking Bount Arc?

Society if Blach didn't introduce strong competant characters only to immediately nerf them to prevent them from unraveling the plot through sheer common sense.

Bount arc is so bad that i knew it was a filler without even checking the filler list. Honestly it was so bad and dragged that I stopped watching bleach fillers.

So I just finished watching the much-reviled Bount Arc this week, and I wanted to give my honest thoughts on it.

Spoilers for seasons 4 and 5 of Bleach ahead :)

The Good Parts:

I really loved the beginning section with Kisuke toying with everyone after they returned. It was exciting, I genuinely had no idea what was going on, and I was hoping the entire arc would be this way. It even had a few moments for Uryū's intelligence to shine outside of his powers--and being a massive fan I couldn't get enough.

The actual notion of the Bounts was rather cool, essentially vampires reimagined to fit into the Bleach universe.

With a few exceptions, I also really liked the dolls and their abilities. They were new, exciting, and rather creative.

The episodes where they were cornered by the water dolls in Karakura General Hospital were an absolute hit for me! Very tense and exciting (although they obviously didn't have any idea how to animate Uryū without his glasses, no way he would have slept with them on).

Badass Soi Fon moment! Yeah!

Plenty of sweet Shunsui and Jushiro moments :)

The Adventures of a Molduga-Doll across Space and Time

The possession of Rukia and later the punishment force was very cool indeed.

The introspection after Kariya offs himself from the characters is excellent.

The Not So Good Parts:

While I liked the arc in general, it had no reason to be almost two seasons long. It dragged much more than it should have, especially by the time they got to the Soul Society.

Yoshino and Uryū were just weird for me. They were clearly trying to make something romantic happen which is entirely bizarre because they had less than five minutes of screen time together before they killed her off...Uncomfortable and just overall very strange. One of the worst parts of the arc.

Koga's doll--Dahlk?--whatever her name was, I couldn't fucking STAND her. She drove me up the wall and by the end every time he summoned her I groaned. I'm also bummed that Toshirô didn't manage to kill her off for good. As a matter of fact, the entire thing with Koga still being alive leads to all SORTS of logical issues.

I liked Kisuke's mod souls at the start, but by the end with the exception of Noba they were all starting to drive me a little mad. And why are they still here in the Arrancar arc?

Season 4 Ichigo: Kisuke tells me I shouldn't rely on my ridiculously powerful bankai. Season 5 Ichigo, anytime someone draws a weapon: BANKAI! (no shade on Kisuke I love him regardless)

Chad was just there. Why was Chad in the invasion arc doing nothing but walking around. He did lots in the first half of the arc, but afterwards he was kind of irrelevant. (I like Chad too, no shade here either)

So did...Kariya just kill himself? No one else got blown up? No one else thinks this is weird?

In conclusion: The Bount Arc gets a lot of hate, and while it's DEFINITELY not as good as the Soul Society arc I'd never urge someone to skip it. It's decent even if it has a few weird parts and holes. That being said, I can't wait to sink my teeth into some canon, non-filler Arrancar arc now.

Day 4 Bleach (anime) Challenge: Least Favorite Arc

My least favorite arc was definitely The Bount Arc and Bount Assault arc. It was just way too long and dragged out. And honestly the Bounts weren't even that interesting. They reminded me of vampires but they could go out in the sun and everything like that. And honestly? Vampires in Bleach? That just doesn't fit the plot of the whole anime anyways. I know there's probably some that liked this arc and that's cool. But it just wasn't for me.

I've been really looking forward to getting to the episode of the Reigai Arc where Byakuya runs, because Byakuya running is the funniest thing in the world to me. Dude doesn't even walk, he glides around like he's wearing heelies. I think they got sheet ghosts up in the Kuchiki family tree somewhere.

Anyway, in my bated-breath anticipation for this event, I got completely sucker punched by the reason he was running, which was (are you ready for this?) because the only way to get back through the Dangai was to draft the Kōtotsu.

I have only seen one Fast and Furious, so I don't know if drafting was ever a plot point on one of those movies. I know in my heart that Hisagi would have begged to be included in Hitsugaya's Crew here, but unfortunately, he was busy doing this:

Everything about this episode is phenomenal (Byakuya makes a stinkface at Urahara, Komamura fights the Restrictive Current, Orihime has a cute fit), but you can go watch it yourself if you want. This is what I am really here for:
