I’m so sorry, but Colin and Penelope painstakingly learning to love every. single. part. of each other — especially the parts that are vindictive, and petty, and jealous, and angry — in such a delicate and early (!!!) point in their romantic relationship does such a supreme justice to their love story that I can never, never wish the Whistledown plot was diminished. (Benedict and Francesca subplot, absolutely. Whistledown, no.)
Because really, how fucking romantic is it, that they both go into their marriage willingly, with their eyes wide open and only their trust in each other that this will all be okay, somehow, to hold onto?
It’s so beautifully ironic that the two greenest, most naïve, most “puppy love” of all the Bridgerton couples actually has the most mature depiction of a deep relationship and connection in the show; that it was through them that they managed to highlight how love is always a choice. It’s such a fantastic juxtaposition, especially for two characters who “have never been taken seriously”.
As they say, the goal is to laugh forever with someone you take seriously. Oh, my sweet, sweet Polin. 🩵

Colin fully believed he was not the jealous type. He did not care that Marina loved another. He was hanging by a thread seeing Penelope flirt with suitors, but she didn't show interest beyond wanting to practice their lessons. Then Penelope calls Debling "not unpleasant to gaze upon" and suddenly he wanna kill himself.

The innocence of the look meeting desire. So simple. Captivating. Intense. Sexy. I can feel the feeling. The blood boils.

Something that I noticed in the new season of Bridgerton is that the only times Cressida seems to breathe is when Eloise is around. She only seems to smile when Eloise is around, genuinely smile. Cressida will still look over at Eloise even when in a man’s presence. She looks at her and her entire face seems to just brighten up, as if Eloise is the only thing she needs for her day to start looking up. I don’t care what you say, I don’t care what the books say but Cressida Cowper is in love with Eloise Bridgerton and you’re either a fool not to see it or blind.

I've seen various hot takes of that moment at the end of the carriage scene where Colin goes through several facial expressions and then nods his head just a little. I've seen it variously described as the moment he realised he's in love, or the moment he decides to marry Penelope, but I have to disagree. Colin's been figuring out he's in trouble for a while. The reason he struggles to leave Bridgerton house for so long the evening of the proposal is because he knows it's a momentous step. If he goes to the ball and messes up Debing's proposal he knows he's getting married. Colin is nuts for Penelope but it's not just lust. When he leaves his house he knows there's no going back. It's either let someone else marry her, or marry her himself, and if he's ruined her chances with someone else then he can't just have ruined her, he must save her too. Colin is a true romantic and a gentleman, as well as a massive slut for Penelope.
So the carriage scene is understood differently by each character. For Colin he's baring his heart, he's saying choose me. For Penelope, she's got nothing left to lose. If she's going to be a spinster who has to live with her mother forever, she might as well have one scandalous carriage ride with the man she's being dreaming of forever. She thinks a physical tryst is all she's going to get but she's reckless enough to go for it. She's reckless because she's always wanted him, but everything this season so far seems to be for the sole purpose of beating her self esteem down. She wants to marry, but she feels like that's been denied her, so she might as well have a moment of pleasure.
When he says "you cannot marry that man" he means "... because you should marry me" but he doesn't actually say that because he's too unsure of what she will say in return. So he declares himself, he tells her what's in his heart, and then (after a moment of doubt and then an assent from her) ravishes her like a starving man at an unexpected banquet. (Though even here, he's a whore but he's also a gentleman, because he is most concerned with giving her pleasure).
So when they get to their destination Penelope is scared it's all over and she's about to crash back down to earth. The kiss they share afterwards is tender and appreciative, and reassuring. Colin is quiet, and sure, and resolved. He is most concerned with making sure she is presentable (so he can present her to his family as his fiance) and not like he just brought her to orgasm in an unchaperoned carriage ride. To me, that little head nod is, yes, she's ready to come see the fam and be my intended. He's a romantic, and he's hers

the thing i love the most is the absolute anxiety on pens face when colin leaves the carriage- its almost like she thinks it was too good to be true, like he might’ve just used her and taken advantage of her feelings. Like everything might’ve been a lie- the angst in her voice and on her face when he leaves the carriage without saying a word is portrayed so perfectly and resolved so quickly by his calm question if she would like to come with him. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. PEN IS ME I AM PEN-

Penelope waited faithfully for years.
Colin wandered, until he found his way to his love, and his home.
The Odyssey?.. Please, it's not even funny.

First photo: letters received from others.
Second photo: letters received from Penelope.
Notice how loosely tied Penelope's letters are? As if Colin had reread them so many times that he just stopped tying them in knots. It was easier to untie and read them again and again.
Colin missed his best friend first of all.
And the woman he loves soon after.
surely this is a theory that has already been discussed but I was, of course, rewatching part two and noticed this detail and now I'm crying (thank you very much); If a post like this already exists, tell me and I will delete it!

I let my delusions get the best of me and for a second I truly believed we’d be seeing Theo again in season 3.
Part of me (probably out of habit) wants to be delulu again and believe he might still come back somehow🥲. When Colin said something to Eloise along the lines of “you should consider yourself lucky that you’ve never been in love” best believe I was screaming “you know NOTHING Colin!”
Then when Eloise was talking about how she survived being accused of being Lady Whistledown but not without some scars I IMMEDIATELY thought of Theo again. And then when she opened that drawer and you could see the book she got from Theo that she had kept………🥲 I don’t know why I do this to myself but I still hope. Part of me just wants them to pull a persuasion with Eloise and Theo.
Otherwise………it’s off to AO3 I go.

at this point, i feel like us colin bridgerton enthusiasts need to start gatekeeping him from local viewers because the things i see being written or said about colin give me the ick lmao.
i mean, you’re entitled to your own opinions about him or the season but i personally feel like some people are so quick to jump the hate wagon and spew how “toxic”, “bland”, and/or “boring” he is as a character and love interest without getting to know his character more. i clearly am speaking as a bridgerton book colin enjoyer too but show colin definitely deserves credit and not to be trashed on. like, imagine knowing someone for so many years, trusting them, caring deeply for them, only to find out that they’re someone who has been tarnishing reputations and spreading gossip about your loved ones for the whole world to read about? and despite all this, he continued to love her throughout his emotional turmoil and still managed to embrace penelope’s pseudonym in the end. he never stopped loving pen even though there was this huge problem lingering between them and if that’s not romantic then i don’t know what is. said viewers act as if colin is not allowed to feel anything other than love & devotion towards penelope when a relationship consists of so many more emotions. the important thing was that we got to see them both push through this and be happy in the end. im not saying people should see this season or their love story as “perfect” because no relationship is but… yeah the takes i’m seeing against colin are just so questionable.

i have so many thoughts about bridgerton s3 part 1 (mostly positive because i LOVEDLOVEDLOVED the first part) but this discourse about how penelope should've chosen debling and not colin is really something that makes me so sad.
like people who think debling is a better choice (which btw he isn't) want pen to settle for a loveless marriage. pen wants LOVE and she wants to be loved. she comes from a family who doesn't really love or even like her. her sisters insult her (prudence called her fat in s1 and they think the only way she can have a suitor is when she blackmails him wtf ???) and her mother thinks she is delusional for even thinking that she could get a husband in her third season and knowing that people still want her to choose debling???? debling himself told her that his work takes up so much space in his life that he probably would never love her and this is the guy who pen should choose wtf
i think it's very telling that certain people don't want pen to choose colin, the person she loves, but want her to settle for debling. why is it always the character that is not conventionally thin (yes, i know that pen is not really a plus-size character but she is also not as conventionally thin as the other two leading ladies) that has to settle for a loveless marriage? why can't she chose colin who loves her and desires her and who doesn't want to leave her for three years to look after his estate.
pen would be so unhappy if she married debling. she would be all alone and yeah idk
colin made mistakes (just as pen has made mistakes) but he truly loves her and the moment he realized his feelings he yearned for her and wanted to be with her and this is what pen deserves. she deserves love and someone who wants her and loves her and someone who doesn't want to leave her.

baby boy was supposed to be here to court Marina, and yet he stood awkwardly on the side, throwing side looks at Penelope

He was dying to rush to her side to make fun of that guy's sonnet and when he finally can he's so happy look at him.

He really does seek her out at every social assembly because she lifts his spirit :(( he then proceeds to be oblivious for two and a half season

The most unrealistic thing about the next part of season 3, is the Ton being shocked about Colin and Pen or assuming she trapped him. Because he has literally been following her around like a lost puppy for four episodes. He corners her alone any chance he can get. He’s always staring longingly at her at balls, even surrounded by a gaggle of silly giggling debutantes.
He saved her from a wayward balloon and then stood on that hillside and look ready to rip her clothes off right then and there.
Like seriously! How you all not know.

Devastating. For seconds he thinks she doesn't want him. Thought-provoking. He wants her. She wants him. Fully! All this in a matter of seconds. Warm.
