Prompt 208
So Danny would feel exasperated, and probably should. But Dan is actually doing good and hasn’t even bitten anyone during this situation so that’s a win in his books. Now if the turned-into-a-four-year-old could tell him where he managed to grab this other child when he was supposed to be at the babysitter’s, that would be swell.
Or why there is a hero who nearly broke the door down in a right panic.
Like genuinely, he doesn’t know who was more surprised, him, or the hero who came running up half in a panic attack.

High School AU
There were two people at Rebel High that you didn’t mess with. Damian Wayne and Raven Roth. Damian was the son of playboy billionaire Bruce Wayne. He was a violent little shit that got into fights just for the fun of it. He had been kicked out of numerous schools so his Father sent him to the only public school in town as punishment. He could hold himself in a fight and even if he couldn’t, he knew his Father would bail him out of anything.
Raven was a part of the demons, one of the deadliest gangs in America. She was born into it by her Father, as it was her birthright to be a part of it. She was the school's best known drug dealer and had spent the summer before junior year locked up. She had no quarrels with kicking someone’s ass if she needed to, but her preferred method of attack was verbal abuse. Both of them could cut you down to size with a single look and people were far too scared to get on their shit lists. That didn’t stop the rumours though.
“Todd, what are we doing here? I thought you were taking us to get food?” Damian asked his older brother, Jason. He had told their Father that he was grabbing a late lunch, when Alfred had insisted that he take Damian along. That had been thirty minutes ago and they still hadn’t gotten a single thing to eat. Instead they were at some trailer park on the opposite side of the city. The trailers were smaller than his room and it didn’t make sense why Todd would want to come here.
Ignoring his younger brother, Jason got out of the car, banging on one of the trailer's doors. Following his brother's actions -for what reason was beyond him- a man with two dyed white streaks in his primarily black hair, eyes the colour of ambers, covered in tattoos opened the door. looking Jason up and down he motioned for them to come in. Upon entering Damian noticed two things, it was bigger on the inside, and the place reeked of weed.
“I need papes*” Jason told the man once they walked in. “What happened to the ones I gave you?” the man questioned turning the T.V off. Damian always had to marvel at how differently they all handled their problems. Todd used drugs and alcohol, Drake would isolate himself, Grayson would throw himself into work, and Damian used violence. Sure they each tended to do what the others did -minus Damian and drugs- but they all seemed more prone to do one thing.
Damian was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard a girl’s voice, one he had heard a couple of times before. “Hey fuckhead” the girl said, anger evident in her voice. Turning to the sound he looked at a form dressed in a white tank top, black sweatpants, and a bat in hand. Right in front of him was Rebel High’s most feared female; Raven Roth. “Shit” the man Jason had asked papes for pailed. “Rae…” he said trailing off as she went towards the television. She glared at the man, then proceeded to take the bat and swing it into the T.V. effectively rendering it useless. Glass shards fell to the ground, all the while the lavender haired girl never took her eyes off the man.
“What the fuck Raven” the man yelled at the young women, looking back from the shattered T.V. to her. “Remember this next time you wanna go through my shit” she said walking up to him, stopping only a few feet away, dropping the bat. “As your older brother I can go through your crap whenever I want to, and how else was I gonna find out that you’re fucking a thirty year old” the dark haired man replied, still in disbelief over the events that took place not even five minutes ago. “Simple, you don’t. Besides it’s not like it would be the first time” the girl replied with venom, clearly still angry, for what was lost to Damian.
The Roth siblings glared at each other, while the Wayne brothers -or the ones there at least- kept glancing at each other, in mild confusion and fear. She looked at him for a moment. Damian had never had a conversation with the young dealer. She rarely ever spoke unless it was to rip someone apart, disrespect someone -who more often than not deserved it- or was to talk about deals. Seeing as Damian and her didn’t run in the same crowd -that of which meant he was popular, thus meaning he sat with popular people and she was always by herself- and he didn’t have a purpose for drugs, they never spoke. Although they did have English together. Turning back to face her brother she flipped him off and walked out the door.
Damian briefly wondered if he had been possessed as he saw her walk out the door, slamming it. He didn’t want her to leave, which was unusual in itself since he wasn’t much of a people person. Looking at the two older men before him, Damian ran out of the trailer home, running up to the young girl, calling out her name.
Stopping a couple of meters in front of him she slowly turned around, her arms crossed in front of her, confusion visible on her face. “Wayne?” she questioned, raising an eyebrow as he ran the last few meters to her. “Hey, I um” he stammered, suddenly his mouth felt dry. Despite other’s beliefs, he had no clue how to talk to teenage girls, especially ones who were just as explosive as him. He knew he had to be cautious, not say or do anything that might make her upset.
“I didn’t know you had a brother” he said casually. “I have five more,” she said, never letting her defences down. Why was Damian Wayne talking to her? It didn’t make any sense, and honestly she couldn’t be bothered to figure out the truth at the moment. She hadn’t eaten yet and was fully aware of how violent and rude she could be if she didn’t eat. “Really? Where are they” he asked with genuine interest. He was observant and used that to his advantage, he pretty much had everyone at Rebel’s High story -or the basics of it- figured out, all’s except her’s.
“Prison” she answered sharply, turning on her heel, she started walking again. Then a hand reached out to latch on to her own, effectively stopping her. Spinning around to him, she looked at his hand on her arm, then at him. Did he have a death wish? Moving his hand from her after a moment -way to quickly, he noted- he went to speak, but was beaten to it. “Look Damian, if my brother asked you to check up on me-“ “Your brother didn’t tell me to do shit. I just wanted to make sure you were okay” he cut her off, nonchalantly.
She was suspicious, he could see that but she didn’t ask “why” which he was grateful for. Honestly Damian didn’t know why he did it, maybe it was because something about Raven had always intrigued him or that she had yet to throw herself at him but he did want to make sure she was okay. Plus if what her brother said about the thirty year old was true, he wanted that pedophile to get locked up.
“I’m guessing you’re one of the shithead brothers Jay is alway complaining about?” She asked him after a moment, still keeping her guards up. Raising his eyebrow slightly he crossed his arms. “He talks about you guys, so are you Kiss Up, Replacement or Demon Spawn?” the girl question. “Demon Spawn, definitely Demon Spawn” the boy answered, smirking.
Sure being called a demon spawn wasn’t something to be proud of, but honestly he couldn’t give two shits. When he first went to live with his Father seven years ago he purposefully was a disobedient, cruel, nasty child, something he undoubtedly would be punished for when he lived with his Mother and Grandfather. He also really liked the names for his other older brothers. Kiss Up had to be Grayson, Father was always comparing everything the others did to their eldest brother. Replacement must have been Drake then, which for Todd was fitting, considering he was adopted a few months after Father had sent Todd off to boarding school in London.
Tuning back into his conversation with Raven he asked “what does he say about us?” “53% of the time it's complaints, 17% is talking about how we should sell him a gun“ this shocked Damian for two reasons; why did Todd need a gun? And he didn’t know the Roths dealt them. Of course he wasn’t stupid and valued his life so he brushed it off as if he already knew these things. “What about the remaining 30%?” The young Wayne asked. At that Raven just grinned.
It was then that she came closer to him, he stood still, tensing up at the contact. He didn’t really like being around people, females no less. He had only really ever had two females close to him; his mother and ex girlfriend, both of which were no longer a part of his life. Raven, being completely oblivious to his uneasiness reached forward for the front of his jacket, playing with the unzipped sides before looking up at him. “Is that a Balmain Biker Jacket*” she questioned, still playing with the sides. “Yeah it is, how did you…” he trailed off, looking at her suspiciously. “Just because I can't afford it doesn’t mean I don't know what it is,” she smirked.
He looked at her a bit sheepishly, then she quickly pulled away from him. For some reason he liked having her close to him, but he brushed it off as wanting physical contact from a female -that he was comfortable with- after going months without it.
“I'm hungry” she stated, and started walking away. Before he could do anything she turned to him again with a raised brow. “Well, are you coming?” She asked. It took him a moment to realize what had happened. Raven Roth had just asked him if he was going to eat with her, it really wasn’t her style. He had rumours that she had slept with -or done something similar- with almost every guy at school. He didn’t think she did dates, then again this wasn’t a date. Did he want it to be a date? That was a question he didn’t need answered at the moment, running up to her he made sure to leave a good five inches of space between them.
Entering Big Belly Burger, they sat down at a booth, across from each other. “Need help deciding what you want,” Raven asked with an amusing smile, clearly teasing him. It wasn't a secret that Damian always had the best of everything; clothes, technology, and food. He knew that she thought that this was his first time coming to a Big Belly Burger, or any fast food place. Yes it was true he didn’t usually go to places that served food high in fat, but he did indulge once in a while, this being one of those times. “Nope” he answered, popping the P, as the waitress came over to them.
“What will it be?” The waitress asked, who Damian quickly realized was a new girl who went to their school, a sophomore he believed. “I'll have a grilled chicken burger and an ice tea, with a side of fries” Raven said, putting the menu down. “I'll have the same thing except for a surprise veg burger” Damian responded to the waitress. Looking up from her notepad, she looked both of them over, registering who exactly was in front of her.
“Holy shit, you’re Damian Wayne” it wasn’t really a question but he nodded anyways. Immediately she became much more cheery. She patted her uniform skirt down, fixed her hair slightly and put on a bright smile. “So what brings you here” she said, he cringed internally at the overused pickup line. He found it a little disrespectful that she would try and talk to him when he was clearly in the middle of something with another person. The complete disregard for Raven infuriated.
He gestured towards the purple haired girl in front of him, the waitress just scoffed. “You certainly are a cheap date” she said to Raven. “Didn’t know you were into rich boys, then again I wouldn’t put being a gold digger past you. Or is the trailer trash you’re used to just not cutting it anymore, you would sleep with anyone who wants it” she said with clear disgust, Raven for her part was keeping her cool, she didn’t even seem bothered by what this girl was insinuating. Damian knew the rumours, and what her brother said didn’t help her case, but she didn’t have to take this kind of treatment.
Looking away from Raven, the younger girl looked Damian, bright smile again. “You know you don’t have to go through the trouble of buying this skank lunch right? I mean you could do so much better-“ no doubt referring to herself, he thought “-and she never needed to be dined before. I heard that she” “I don’t give two shits what you heard about her. Now can you please go get us our fucking food” Damian snapped. The girl, slightly taken aback by his outrage, just nodded and left, all the while having Damian glare at her.
Looking back to Raven he saw her brow raised, something he noticed she did a lot. “You know you could report her right, get her fired. No doubt that she deserves it” he said, still not understanding how she managed not to be angry. “It’s not that big of a deal” she shrugged, playing with a ketchup packet. Not that big of a deal? She had just been disrespected and thinks it isn’t a big deal.
Then a thought struck him. “Does that happen often” he questioned, although deep down he already knew the answer. She pretended to think for a moment. “All the time” she answered, leaning back in her seat. “You don’t have to take it,” he said, placing his hands on the table leaning forward slightly. “Look, I'm a Roth” she sighed. “People are always gonna talk. If she wasn’t bitching about me being a slut, then it would about me being a dealer” she said, eyes pleading with him to just drop it.
“That's fucked up” he said, staring out the window. “I come from a pretty fucked up family” she responded with a smile in her voice. “Yeah, my family’s pretty shit too” he stated, still not looking at her. He was upset with his Father for not knowing about him until he was ten years old, he was upset with his Mother for not telling his Father about him, but more importantly he was upset that they both never treated him like a normal child, then again Damian wasn’t a normal child.
“Damian” Raven's voice snapped him from his thoughts, turning to look at her; she had an incredulity face. “From what I heard you have a pretty great family” she stated matter of factly. Seeing the look of confusion on his face she elaborated. “I know that your Father is sort of a distant asshole, but he also has a multibillion dollar company to run, so he can’t exactly be there for all of you. Clearly he shouldn’t have so many kids but you all turned out pretty fine. The worst of you being Jason, dubbed by the media, and all he really does is smoke weed” she gave her two cents. She wasn’t wrong, in fact she was completely on the nose. Damian understood why his Father was away all the time, but a part of him still wished he could see him after he came home from school like most kids.
“Still wish he’d be there for us sometimes though. We really only see him on Fridays for a mandatory family dinner” Damian said, a hint of bitterness in his voice. “Family dinner sounds nice, if my Father isn’t locked up then he’s doing something to get locked up” she responded as their food arrived, thankfully it was a different waitress this time. “How much time has he done?” The young man questioned, taking a sip of his ice tea. “30 years on and off” she answered, taking a bite of her fries.
“So, what’s your story?” She asked him after about three minutes of silence. It wasn’t an awkward silence though, and he actually quite enjoyed it. When he was with his -now ex- girlfriend she hated the silence and would talk for hours, which was fine with Damian if it meant he didn’t have to talk about himself. Obviously this tactic wasn’t going to work with Raven.
“I don’t have one” he simply answered, taking a bite from his burger. “Bullshit” she said, taking a sip of her drink. “Everyone's got a story, whether they acknowledge it or not” she stated. “If that’s true then you must have one” he countered, crossing his arms and leaning back into his seat. “Yeah I do, but I asked first” she shrugged, reaching over and grabbing one of his fries.
His eyes followed his fry in her hands, all the way to her mouth, looking up he realized she had been watching him the whole time, sighing he had no other choice but to answer the young woman. “I grew up with my Mother and Grandfather. They took care of me and taught me how to defend myself. After my Grandfather was killed my Mother had trouble taking care of us, so she brought me to my father.”
“Apparently he didn’t even know I was born and made me take a DNA test to determine if I was even his or not. Surprise surprise, I was. I’ve been living with him ever since, sometimes my Mother comes to visit but I wish she would just leave me alone” at her confused face he explained. “My mother was mentally abusive, and kept me isolated from most of the world. It wasn’t until I lived with my Father that I realized how shitty she was though” he finished, taking another bite from his burger.
They just sat there for a while, unmoving. That was until he reached out to take a sip of her drink, she followed the movements with a raised brow, at his smirk she slightly chuckled. “So...” he drawled out, indicating for her to finish, she sighed. “I lived with my mother up until I was eight” she started. “She was murdered and I was taken. Apparently my father didn’t take too kindly to her running off after they found out she was pregnant.”
”Of course I was beyond angry at him for what he did to my mother. Sure she was a bitch at times but she was the only person I had. He went to jail, for unrelated reasons, after that. My brothers were in and out of the house, so I enlisted in school and about four months later he was released. Forced me into the family business. High school kids are more prone to buy drugs than adults. Of course then the rumours came and he totally lost his shit. Went full on psycho, I had to leave for a while so I got my ass thrown in juvie. While I was locked up he got caught for some shit and now has to do 18 months with a chance of parole in 12” she replied in a monotone voice, not betraying how she actually felt.
“Why’d he go psycho” the youngest Wayne questioned, what rumours had her Father heard that would make her want to go to juvie. “That I was a slut” Damian couldn’t help but snort at that. “Yeah, he thought that I was doing it with everyone; high schoolers, felons, junkies, guys in their thirties” she gave him a small smile as she finished her burger. It was odd, he had never told anyone as much as he had told her. He believed that his mind was something for him and him alone, which drove everyone else crazy. But for some reason he was willing to tell her all of his inner thoughts. Then it struck him.
Thought? What do you mean he thought you did those things. No offence, but you have done those things” he told her with a face of confusion. She looked at him with dull eyes, and shook her head slightly. “I've only slept with one man, Damian, and it wasn’t even consensually” she said with the utmost seriousness, then again when wasn’t she serious? “What...what about the rumours?” he probed with a frown, he believed her, he was just taken aback that someone would spread such nasty lies about another person.
“A few weeks after I started school I was invited to this girl’s birthday party. There was this boy there and he tried to kiss me, I said no. Next thing I knew he told everyone that we had hooked up. Guess he got some of his friends into it too, because they made up shit as well” she shrugged, taking another one of his fries. “Why didn’t you deny it?” He asked. “I did it, but by then the damage was done. It only got worse when I became a freshmen” her eyes had clouded over, as if she was remembering something; something particularly painful.
“What about the guy your brother was talking about?” He inquired, looking her over. Snapping back into reality she answered. “My brother doesn’t know shit. I'm not sleeping with the guy, he's my Social Worker. I have to report to him every two weeks on how shit in my life’s going and based on that he deems whether I can continue living with my father or not” obviously she hadn’t told him the truth, or the entire truth at least. There was no way he would let her live with that maniac if he knew what really happened.
Her words bounced around in his mind. “I’ve only slept with one man, and it wasn’t even consensual. Wasn’t even consensual” she hadn’t given consent. “You were raped” he blurted out. she looked at him with a face of indifference. “Well I wouldn’t go so far to say that-“ “did you and this man have intercourse?” He cut her off. “Yes” she answered honestly, “did you give him consent” “No” she shook her head. “That means you were raped-“ she was about to protest but he continued “-he invaded your body without asking or having permission.”
“Even if you had given consent, that still makes him a pedophile, you have to report this” he couldn’t believe this. The girl everyone had belittled for being a slut was actually a rape victim. “I can't,” she whispered. “Why not” he raised his voice slightly, maybe she didn’t understand the magnitude of this situation, but he did. “Because in some fucked up way...I care about him” she laughed but there was no humour in it. Looking up at him he noticed the unshed tears in her eyes, and he knew that this was hurting her, breaking her. She was pleading with him to drop it. “Rae...” he trailed off, he was sorry for her, not in a pity kind of way, but in a you-don’t-deserve-this kind of way.
“Look,” she said, straightening up a bit. “It happened years ago, I have no way to prove that it even happened. The bastard is already in jail anyways” she said, reaching across the table to put her hand over his, not to take a fry. She smiled at him softly, he didn’t agree with her and was willing to take this to court, even pay for a lawyer, but there wasn’t much he could do if she didn’t want to. So, he just returned the smile.
It was weird, less than an hour ago he hadn’t spoken to her once, and now it felt like they knew each other better than anyone else. He had just thought of her as a skanky dealer, another criminal that should be locked up. It was true, what she had said, that everybody has a story. He silently vowed to never judge another person without truly knowing their story first. This may have been their first conversation, but something told him it wouldn’t be their last.

Tumblr media
You were in a daze as you went inside your apartment. You laid on your couch and turned on the tv, choosing something random on Netflix before opening up your phone and scrolling through The White Wolf and the Howlers Instagram again. At 5:00 you jolted up and realized you should probably get ready. You turned on your shower, and stared at your closet while you waited for the water to heat up. You felt like a zombie as you went through the motions of showering, combing your hair, blow drying it, and putting on your makeup, as your mind was preoccupied thinking about James Barnes and the night ahead. You finished your makeup and returned to your closet, continuing to just stare at it. You wanted to wear something sexy, but not blatantly sexy, and you wanted to wear something that would accentuate your curves, but not overly draw attention to them. Your heart began to race as you imagined seeing James that night and hearing him sing again. You grabbed your phone and opened your group chat with Jess and Rachel.
Me: Guys idk what to wear tonight
Rachel: Clothes?
Me: Haha. Funny
Jess: Just throw on a dress or something? Why does it matter? Also when is dinner again? Ya gurl is already hungry
You stared at your phone. You hadn’t told them about everything that had happened that week. Actually, you hadn’t told them about anything that had happened this week. You had meant to text them as soon as you got to your desk, but then the White Wolf account had started liking all of your pictures, and then James had come to talk to you, and then Tony had piled work on you, and you had just forgotten.
Fuck, you thought to yourself, your thumbs hovering over the keyboard, trying to decide how to explain yourself.
Me: Um….so…..you know that band from the club that we went to and we’re going to again tonight?
Jess: Yeah, what about them
Me: Shit. Ok so you know how I followed them that night? Well on Monday the lead singer was in my office and meeting with Tony and liking my Insta pics and then he messaged me about coming to the show tonight and then he got me out of work and gave me a ride home and now I need to look nice tonight and help
After 30 seconds you got simultaneous messages from both Jess and Rachel:
Jess: WHAT IN THE FUCK
Rachel: OMG WHAT THE FUCK
Jess: HOW DARE YOU KEEP A SECRET LIKE THAT!?!? DO WE MEAN NOTHING TO YOU
Rachel: AGAIN, WHAT THE FUCK
You laughed to yourself as you began to respond:
Me: Ok yeah, that’s my b for not telling you guys sooner. But anywayyyyy, WHAT DO I WEAR???
Rachel: Wear that off the shoulder burgundy dress?
Jess: Oooh yeah that one makes your collarbone look guuuuud. Also where for dinner??
Me: Yasssss that dress is perfect! And dinner at 7? Do we still want those burgers or we could do that Italian place in the middle of all our apartments?
Jess: Ravioli ravioli give me the formuoli
Rachel: 🍝 YEET
Me: I’m ded, ok see y’all there at 7
You pulled the dress Rachel had suggested out of your closet and nodded your approval at it. You checked how long it would take to get to the restaurant, and seeing that it would take 30 minutes, you quickly got dressed, brushed through your hair one last time, and grabbed your bag before rushing out the door. As you stood at the bus stop, an anxious feeling began to creep over you as you noticed the sun beginning to set. The bus arrived and you quickly got on and took a seat where you could see the driver in their mirror. You felt anxious until you arrived at the restaurant, thanking the bus driver as you departed the bus.
You were the first to arrive, and let the host seat you at your table. You pulled out your phone and texted Jess and Rachel that you had arrived and were seated. They both came in together 5 minutes later.
“Ok, so dish. You’ve actually met the singing angel?” Jess asked as she sat down.
You blushed, “Yeah, I have. I actually was rude to him at first because I didn’t realize it was him. I was at the elevator and he said something from behind me and I snarked at him and then looked and realized who it was.”
“And he’s been liking your pics?” Rachel looked at you over her menu.
“Yeah he has, I think he liked all of them through last October.”
“Daaaang!” Jess winked at you.
Dinner consisted of more discussion about your interactions with James all week and reading into them more than you should have.
“Shit, we should probably be going!” you exclaimed, checking your phone and seeing it was almost 8:30.
“Oh, how the time flies when there are exciting mens to discuss,” Jess replied, wiping her mouth with her napkin and placing it on the table.
The waiter came to the table and you all quickly paid your bills. You all went outside and waited for the bus. You were too excited to be nervous about possible gang activity on public transportation. The ride consisted of Jess and Rachel teasing you about James and guessing how the night would go.
You arrived to the club and departed the bus. Jess and Rachel got to the door first and were asked for their IDs by the doorman before going inside. You fumbled in your bag for your own ID and tried to hand it to the doorman.
“Go on in,” the doorman said, waving away your ID.
“You don’t need to check this?” you asked, confused, thinking back to your first visit and how intensely your ID had been looked at.
“Nope, you’re good to go, (Y/N).”
You double took the doorman, “Um thanks,” you awkwardly walked inside.
“What took you so long?” Rachel asked.
“The door guy knew my name.”
“Yeah, so? It’s on your ID,” Jess laughed at you.
“But he didn’t look at my ID…” you trailed off as the hostess walked up to the stand in front of your group and looking at the book on it.
“Table for three,” Rachel said.
“Oooh sorry, all the tables are booked up,” she replied, not looking up.
“Are there any seats anywhere?” you asked, stepping forward.
The hostess looked up, annoyed, but her expression changed upon seeing you.
“Oh, wait, we do have one open. Sorry for the confusion. Follow me,” she said, leading your group to the very front of the club.
The hostess apologized again before walking away.
“Ok, that was weird, right?” you asked, sitting down.
“Think your boyfriend stepped in?” Rachel replied, emphasizing boyfriend.
“Very funny,” you replied as a waiter came to your table.
“Three tall boys, on the house,” the waiter set down a beer in front of each of you and walked away before you could thank or question him.
“Oooh, your boyfriend def stepped in,” Jess laughed, drinking from her beer.
You were thankful for how dark the club was as your face burned from how much you were blushing.
As you began to relax, the spotlight hit the stage and a voice announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage, The White Wolf and The Howlers.”
The curtain opened and you couldn’t help the audible sharp intake of air as you looked up at him.
Stop making the eyes at me, I’ll stop making the eyes at you
What is it that surprises me is that I don’t really want you to
James was looking you straight in the eyes. Jess kicked you under the table and Rachel let out a high pitched squeal. You licked and bit your lips, your heart rate escalating.
And your shoulders are frozen (Cold as the night)
Oh, but you're an explosion (You're dynamite)
Your name isn't Rio, but I don't care for sand
And lighting the fuse might result in a bang, b-b-bang-oh
I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
I don't know if you're looking for romance or
I don't know what you're looking for
I said, I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984
Well, from 1984
James looked at you and began to move his hips to grind on the microphone stand as he sung. You crossed your legs and squeezed them together as you began to feel a fluttering in your stomach.
I wish you'd stop ignoring me because it's sending me to despair
Without a sound, yeah, you're calling me and I don't think it's very fair
James looked right at you and gave you a toothy grin. You couldn’t take your eyes off of him and felt yourself beginning to breath heavily.
That your shoulders are frozen (Cold as the night)
Oh, but you're an explosion (You're dynamite)
Your name isn't Rio, but I don't care for sand
And lighting the fuse might result in a bang, b-b-bang-oh
As he sang the “bangs” he deeply grinded into the microphone stand, causing you to squeeze your thighs tighter.
I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
I don't know if you're looking for romance or
I don't know what you're looking for
I said, I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984
Well, from 1984
And no there in't no love, no Montagues or Capulets
Just banging tunes and DJ sets and
Dirty dancefloors and dreams of naughtiness
He licked his lips and stared deeply into your eyes. He blew you an air-kiss before looking back out into the audience for the end of the song.
Well I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
I don't know if you're looking for romance or
I don't know what you're looking for
I said, I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984
Said, from 1984
They finished playing and James gave you a wink as the curtain closed. Your heart rate was finally going down.
“Holy fuck, (Y/N)!!” Jess playfully slapped your arm, “He’s really fucking into you!”
Rachel just kept looking from the stage to you with her mouth open wide.
“Knock it off, I’m sure it’s nothing,” you said, but inside you were praying you were wrong.
“It fucking looked like something,” Jess said, looking you up and down with a side eye.
“Mhhhmmm,” was all Rachel could say.
You quietly sipped your beer in response.
The announcer called out the next group and the curtain opened again, distracting Jess and Rachel from making fun of you. Just as your breathing was regulating from the set, you felt a tap on your shoulder, you looked up and saw him.
“Hi doll, glad you could make it,” James gave you a mischievous smile.
You were surprised Jess and Rachel didn’t snap their necks with how quickly they turned to look from the stage to him. He snapped his fingers and a waiter appeared with a chair for him.
“Mind if I join?”
You gulped and the three of you nodded your heads ‘no,’ none of you able to speak.
“So, what’d you think?” James asked as another waiter appeared with a drink for him. “Need another round, ladies?”
Rachel nodded yes, and Jess was able to mumble out a “yes, please.”
“Thank you, James,” you managed to finally speak.
“No problem. So, what did you think?”
“You were great. More than great, fantastic,” you gushed.
“Oh, yeah?”
“So good,” Rachel blurted out.
James looked to her and Jess, “We haven’t met. James Barnes, it’s a pleasure to meet friends of (Y/N).”
He extended his hand out to shake those of Rachel and Jess. Rachel let out a squeak as he shook her hand and you could see Jess melting.
You were finally regaining your composure as he turned to you again, “Beats a night with Stark, doesn’t it?”
“You have no idea,” you caught yourself, “But it’s a great opportunity that I am very thankful for.”
“Don’t bullshit me, doll. I’m going into business with him, I know how Tony is. Shows how strong,” he paused and looked you up and down, “you are to be able to put up with him,” he growled.
You were again thankful for how dark it was in the club as you blushed intensely, “It would be nice to not be doing his grunt work, for sure,” you smiled back at him.
“Not big on grunt work, doll?” he licked his lips at you.
“I….uh...I...that’s not what I…,” you were thankful the waiter appeared with your new drinks, creating an opportunity for a change in topic as you took a long drink.
“Care for a dance, (Y/N)?” James asked, extending his hand to you.
“Oh, I’m really not big on dancing,” you replied, taking another long drink and begging for some liquid courage to kick in.
“Are you kidding? (Y/N) is a great dancer,” Jess chimed in, her shock having worn off.
“She really is! She was getting doooown at my sister’s wedding last year,” Rachel added, regaining her voice.
“Who invited you two out?” you asked through a fake smile.
“You know, I sang that song for a reason, doll,” James winked at you, offering his hand again.
“Well in that case, how can a girl say no?” you replied, rolling your eyes to hide the fact that you were internally screaming.
You put your hand in his and let him whisk you away to the dance floor. He readjusted the grip on your joined hands and gently put his other hand on your waist, pulling you into him. You rested your other hand on his shoulder. He led you across the floor, other couples making way for you.
“I hadn’t even realized there was a dance floor here,” you were glad you had worn heels so you were level with James’s ear.
“Too busy staring at me, doll?” James low voice rumbled in your ear.
You blushed, “That may have been the reason.”
James pulled you even closer to him, “Good.”
He continued to dance with you through the next three bands, all of which had at least two songs to perform. Your feet were getting tired, but you were enjoying yourself too much to care. As the last group ended, you felt a tap on your shoulder.
“Excuse me, not trying to cut in, but James, you have to go backstage,” a blonde man said.
“That time of night already? Thanks, Stevie, I’ll be right back.”
“James,” Steve gave him a knowing look, “I’ll escort (Y/N) back to her seat.”
“Yeah, yeah, I’ll be there in a minute,” James rolled his eyes and took his hand off your waist. “Well, doll, duty calls. I’ll see you after the show? By the way, you do look good on the dance floor,” He kissed your hand and went through a door, which you figured led backstage.
“(Y/N)?” Steve offered up his arm to you.
You put your arm through his and let him lead you back to your table.
“Thanks, Steve. And nice to meet you!” you said as Steve nodded and walked away into the shadows of the bar.
“Omg, (Y/N)!! Who was that???” Jess demanded.
“His name is Steve. I don’t really know? He seemed to know James though.”
“Oooooh, Jamesssss,” Rachel poked fun at you.
“Oh shut up! Plus I think they’re starting again,” you motioned to the closed curtain where the spotlight had just come on.
“Ladies and Gentleman, I am pleased to announce our final song for the night. Put your hands together and welcome back to the stage The White Wolf and the Howlers!”
“That sounded like Steve. That must be how they know each other,” you told Jess and Rachel.
The curtain reopened and there stood James Barnes, looking right at you, a grin on his face.

Allen x Reader
Hey @keyblade-loser im your secret santa! for the @dgmsecretsanta2018 I hope you like it, sorry if it feels rushed
The sound of the train fell on deaf ears as Allen, Lavi, Kanda and Lenalee were briefed on their mission. Kanda had forced his way to have his own separate room as per usual so Allen being the kind gentleman he is, invited the finder into the shared cart.
“What’s the use of having four exorcists? This mission can’t be all too hard, right?” Lavi leaned back in his seat, crossing his arms
“We have intel warning us that swarms of akuma are heading to the destination. There have been rumors of a noah possibly showing up but we’ve debunked them as they are-rumors” Devon, the finder, sighed. “We just want to be thorough with the mission” “I'm sure we didn’t need that bakanda coming with us” Allen grumbled a little, his elbow on the window sill. Lenalee frowned, looking at Devon “What is the place we’re going to anyway? Why are the akuma so interested in it?” “Well of course you may know there are signs of innocence at play. In fact it seems to have synched with the user without realizing it” Lavi flipped through the booklet he was given, taking in all the information he could
“The innocence user is a young royal who goes by the name (y/n) (l/n). (y/n) seems to be stuck in an infinite loop, similar to the miranda lotto case but rather than time rewinding, it’s the same event happening every night almost as if it never happened. Illusionary people go into the castle, along with normal high class people who don’t seem to understand what’s happening would join them for celebration. The only things that don’t seem to be an illusion are (y/n), (y/n)’s staff and the food and drinks the staff would prepare for any real guests that might come. You’re going to have to go in disguise as the parties always favor a masquerade. We aren’t entirely sure if (y/n) is completely aware that the same party just repeats itself except for the one fact that the next party that’s tonight will be christmas themed.”
“Holy shit. How long has this been going on for?”
“12 years. Ever since (y/n)’s parents died. One weak before (y/n)’s birthday”
It was a long day for you. Your parents were dead, your birthday was forgotten and everyone seemed to only talk about your parents. It sucked. They hadn’t asked how you felt, just wondered when you would inherit all their money and prized possessions. The only one that cared about you was your personal servant/best friend (f/n). They were only a few years older than you but they understood. After comforting you with a blanket, stuffed animal and a pillow they left you alone to grieve. You hadn’t noticed until around midnight that they left a present on your dresser. You left everything on your bed, shoving your feet into your slippers and shuffling over to the dresser, grabbing the nicely wrapped gift. You flipped the card over to read it
‘Dear (y/n). I’m really sorry that everyone seemed to forget your birthday, even me. I’ve just been very busy keeping everything together and making sure you were ok. I don’t know if this is enough but this was passed down in my family and I find it really pretty so...happy birthday ~(f/n)’
Your brows furrowed as you read the card, setting it down and opening the box. It was a very intricate and ornate masquerade mask with (f/c) gems decorating it. In the middle of it was a sea green gemstone that glowed dully. You could practically feel the warmth the mask seemed to radiate.
‘Wear me’
Your face went confused. Did the mask just...talk to you?
‘If you wear me, I promise your troubles will melt away. You’ll be happy again. Forever.’
You hesitated, biting your lip before shaking your head and putting the mask on.
Allen re adjusted his mask as he looked at the door. Lack stood to his left and Lenape at his right. Kanda refused to get dressed up in a disguise so he decided to stay behind, ready to jump in if any fighting started.
The orchestra was playing some nameless melody, the guests dancing with each other to the tune. Allen ran when he saw the giant buffet table covered in what seemed to be childish food. It had French fries, chicken nuggets, burgers, pizza-every child's dream buffet. Of course it also had seafood and more refined food for the older and mature guests but the majority stuck out like a sore thumb. While Allen was piling his plate with as much food as he could, you came up from behind him. You had a black suit on with a red shawl-like scarf tied on your waist. The suit was unbuttoned slightly, revealing a white and red striped button up underneath. Your hair was (f/s), going perfect with the suit. You smiled as you stole a French fry from the tray “hello”
Allen jumped a little, not expecting you to be there
“Oh hello-I’m sorry, am I in your way?” He quickly stepped out of his spot but moved back when you shook your head
“No. You just seem really hungry for such a small guy” you grinned, snickering a little
“Wha-hey! I’m not that small-I’m average.”
“It’s cute though.”
Allen blinked a few times “oh..Thankyou” he wasn’t sure whether or not to take the compliment until you held out your hand “I know you were just getting food but would you dance with me? Please?”
Allen was surprised again before nodding, setting his plate to the side “Yeah, sure” he smiled a little, taking your hand and leading you to the other dancers. The dancers noticed you two, specifically you though and quickly cleared the way for you, opening up in the middle.
Allen’s earpiece beeped in his ear before a voice came through “nice work mr walker, now try to convince them to come back with us to the order” it was Devon
Allen nodded, trying to not make it obvious and put a hand on your waist, his other hand still holding yours. Your free hand went to his shoulder and you both swayed to the music. Your grin turned to a soft smile and you leaned your head to rest on his shoulder, still swaying to the music. He was glad for the mask he was wearing or else his blush would be visible to everyone. He moved his hand so his arm could go around your waist, his fingers intertwining with your own. The song slowed to a stop and the crowd watching you both clapped and cheered for you. Allen pulled away from the dance, bowing and smiling.  You smiled back but before you could say anything, there was a loud explosion on the other side of the ball room.
Some of the guests saw the slums, screaming and starting to run. Other guests didn’t really...see it? It was like it didn’t exist to them and they continued to dance to the still playing music
“Could I please have your name sir?” You said, taking Allen’s hand
“Uh-its...it’s Allen” he bit his lip, looking towards the akuma. It was only level one but it could still do some pretty harsh damage. Thankfully, lavi and Lenalee quickly acted, killing it almost instantly. Other Kaunas started to emerge though, keeping lenalee and lavi busy
“Really? Is that English? I’m (y/n) (l/n), the host of this party” you bowed “I’ve been in this stuffy room all day, what do you say to following me to the balcony?” You grinned mischievously, not waiting for an answer before quickly dragging him away from the ballroom and up the stairs to your balcony.
Your best friend however, saw and was panicking
“Fuck fuck-those things are back and they’re attacking-and people are fighting back? With giant glowing weapons? What the fuck is this? Why the hell is (y/n) dragging off some white haired guy?!” They kept dodging and hiding here and there, trying their best to follow after you.
“So Allen, What makes you happy?”
“What?”
“what makes you happy? Like...what makes you move forward in life?” You leaned against the railing, looking out at the stars
“Uh...my friends? Oh-and timcanpy-my uh-close friend.”
“That’s nice” you leaned your chin on your hand
“What about you (y/n)?”
“My friend (f/n) and their willingness to help me with these parties every night”
Allen nodded, going to the railing and standing next to you. He looked back at the party, thankful to hear that it seemed to calm down. For now.
“Hey Allen?”
“I know I just met you but can I tell you a secret?”
“Uh...sure?”
“I know most of the parties are fake.” You sigh, pulling off your mask
Allen blinked a few times, staring at you “...what?”
“This mask has the power to make illusions...things have been coming after me ever since I put this mask on...that’s why I brought you out here-the things came back for me again” you looked at the mask before looking at the ground “they’re like...demons...they just keep coming back-tormenting me…”
“They’re akuma.”
Allen took you off guard, making you look up. He took off his glove, showing you his deformed hand. You gasped, seeing the similar sea green stone glowing in his hand
“What you have is called innocence...you can use it to kill the akuma. I’m what they call an exorcist-I specialize in killing akuma”
“Wait...what?” You tried to process everything until a purple hand shot out, wrapping around your throat
“I got the innocence! I got the innocence!” The akuma grinned, flying up into the air with you in its grasp
“A-ALLEN!” You choked out
“Hold on (y/n)! Innocence, activate!” Allen shot up after you, his arm shifting into what looked like a giant cannon.
“Allen...Allen Wait Maybe that’s not a good-“
He shot his arm
“IDEA!”
You were now free falling, the akuma that was previously holding you was shrieking in pain. You shut your eyes right, bracing yourself to hit the ground but you didn’t. You opened your eyes to see your best friend had caught you “oh thank god (f/n) you saved me-“
Hey dropped you to the ground, making you groan in pain “that...fuckin hurt…”
“That’s what you get for running off with some white haired guy” They huffed a little, rolling their eyes “Sorry..” you said, rubbing the back of your head “and his name is allen-wait! Allen?!” you look up to see him absolutely obliterate the akuma, landing gracefully near you and (f/n). You grinned and quickly got up on your feet, rushing over to him and hugging him “that was amazing! You just-demolished it! Like it was a little bug compared to you-it was amazing!” he breathed. Allen seemed a little surprised you were suddenly hugging him before smiling and hugging you back
“it’s what i do for a living….you can too. With your innocence.”
“Excuse me hold on you are not doing anything like that. You can get hurt! You’ve never fought a day in your life! And what about your family fortune? What will you do with it!” your friend came up behind you, trying to talk sense into you. “Shit..you’re right...maybe...i should think about this..” you pulled away from Allen, biting your lip. Allen was about to speak before another explosion went off “I’ll be right back” allen ran off to handle the other akumas appearing.
“(y/n) we need to get you to safety” (f/n) took your hand and quickly started dragging you away. A wave of exhaustion hit you and before you knew it, you collapsed onto the ground.
You later woke up in an unfamiliar room. It looked sort of like yours but...a complete disaster. Everything was old and dusty, some of it destroyed beyond recognition. This room looks like its been abandoned for years.
“So (y/n)’s mask was just making an illusion of the castle this whole time? How could it still be up when (y/n) took it off…?”  “Taking it off could still work but it must’ve used much more energy than it normally would’ve which could explain why (y/n) passed out…” “It makes sense..”
You could hear voices outside your door talking about you. One of them sounded like allen but you couldn't really pinpoint the other voices. You got up and went to the door,  opening it. You saw a girl with long green hair up in pigtails, a guy with spiky red hair pushed back by a green hair band, Allen and a guy with long blue hair that seemed like he didn't want to be there… “Allen?...what’s going on? How long was I asleep..?” “Oh! (y/n), you’re awake! I thought we were gonna have to carry you out..” “Oh good if they’re awake then we can leave” the guy with the blue hair turned and started walking away
“Bakanda! You can’t just walk away they hadn’t even agreed to go yet!” “Then drag them out if you have to. You know the order won’t care if they want to come or not.” “Come where-the place that tells you to fight akuma?” “Oh look they’re not completely braindead” “Hey-fuck you!” And with that the guy ‘bakanda’ had walked off completely. You growled a little before huffing “that guy’s an asshole…” The girl with green hair smiled and nodded “yeah...that’s Kanda for you. I’m lenalee but he is right...you have to come with us” You frowned “what about (f/n)? Can they come too?” The three looked at each other with that look of ‘oh no we gotta tell them’ “what? Don't tell me-no-an akuma didn’t get them-right?” you could already feel tears welling up in your eyes. Allen quickly shook his head “No no-it seems uh…(f/n) was part of the illusion ...they were fake….they’ve been gone for a while now…”
“O-oh” you said quietly, looking at the ground. In the next few hours Allen helped you gather what you wanted to bring before leading you out of the castle. You also learned the ginger haired man was named lavi. Lavi was a mischievous bunny so when he ‘accidentally’ bumped into you, knocking you into Allen who just so happened to be under a mistletoe, it didn’t seem all too much of an accident. You both were flustered, stammering and trying to get a grip on yourselves until you shook your head, grabbing the front of his shirt and kissing him softly. Allen noted that it seems you like to catch him off guard before kissing you back just as sweet.

Till Death Do Us Part: A Barry Allen Fan Fiction
Chapter 5: Big Bang Theory
Word Count: 3,133
Tumblr media
The Big Bang Theory. One of mankind's most debated theories. One that I firmly stand by, mainly because I’ve experienced it. A big explosion, creating new life, changing everything.
Nine months had gone by since the explosion. Month one a familiar face arrived in my lab. Month two I shut myself away from the rest of the world. Month three I tried finding myself again. Month four I failed at month three’s task. Month five I gave up. Month sixth I reentered society. Month seven I buried myself in science. Month eight I made new friends. Month nine, that’s where things got complicated.
“Ok, I’ve got one cappuccino, one vanilla latte, and-” I cocked my head to the side. “Why are you guys listening to Poker Face?” Cisco turned to face me. “It’s Barry’s favorite song.” he exclaimed. “And you know this how?” I asked. “Cisco has been stalking Mr. Allen’s facebook page the past few days.” “You mean Barry?” Cisco retorted. “He’s our patient, he’s Mr.Allen.” “Cait he’s been here for nine months, I think we have the right to call him Barry. Right Monica?” I felt my heart begin to beat quickly, I hated lying to my two new best friends. But if they found out about me knowing Barry, then I’d have to explain all of the gorey details of our relationship. “Umm, yeah. Whatever Costco.” Cisco ignored me as he began humming along to Barry’s favorite song from when he was a senior in High School. You do realize you’re digging yourself down a deeper hole? Right? I thought to myself. “Where am I?” A familiar voice asked from behind me. “Shit.” I whispered, going to hide under the desk in front of me. All I could hear was Caitlin rambling random medical terms as Cisco tried to calm Barry down. “Everything’s okay man. You’re at STAR Labs.” “STAR Labs? Where’s Monica?” He remembered… SHIT he remembered! Right when I peered over the desk Caitlin and Cisco turned to face me, confused looks etching their faces. “Hey, Barry...” I said meekly, giving a small wave. Cisco turned back around. “I’m Cisco Ramon. She’s Doctor Caitlin Snow-” “I need you to urinate in this cup.” Cisco rolled his eyes, “And I see you already know Monica, which really intrigues me…” “Not now Cisco,” I said, slowly making my way towards Barry. “What, what is happening? What is going on?” Barry exclaimed pacing around the med-bay, “Bare, you were struck by lightning…” I whispered. Barry walked towards a monitor and stared at his body. “Wh- Lightning gave me abs?” Caitlin walked towards him. “Your muscles should be atrophied, but instead they're in a chronic and unexplained state of cellular regeneration.” I pushed Caitlin aside and put my hand on Barry’s bare shoulder. “Barry, please sit down.” He shuffled back to the bed, his eyes maintaining their locked gaze on the floor. “You were in a coma.” Cisco explained. “For how long?” Barry asked. “Nine months.” “Welcome back Mister Allen.” Dr.Wells said, wheeling his way into the Cortex. “We have a lot to discuss.”
As I had expected Barry wanted nothing to do with STAR Labs, leaving me in a sticky situation. Cisco and Caitlin turned around to stare at me, expecting looks on their faces.”Look, I know I have a lot to explain but it’s not what you think.” Caitlin gave me a knowing look. “Fine, maybe it is what you think but why would that even matter. I mean-” “Why would what matter?” Dr.Wells inquired. I rolled my eyes, might as well get this over with, “When I was eleven, my mom and I moved here, I met Barry and Iris and became close friends with them. Then, senior year of highschool roles around, and Barry and I got to prom together,” Cisco gave me a smug  grin. “As friends, then he um, he-” “He what???” Cisco pushed, “He kissed me, and I ran away, moved to Seattle and never spoke to him. Until the Wednesday before the accident,” I threw my hands up in the air. “I thought I’d never have to see him again, but here we are, or I guess I should say here we have been. It’s like the universe is forcing us together no matter how much I hate it.” “Are you sure you hate it?” Caitlin teased. “Please don’t even start with that. I’m really sorry but I’m going to head to Jitters and take a much needed break.” I whispered, walking out of the Cortex. “But there’s already coffee her-” “I’m very aware of that Cisco.” I yelled storming through the halls.
After taking sometime for myself that afternoon, I was finally ready to head back to work. Instead of changing back into my work attire I stayed in my sweatshirt and leggings, opting to “walk” back to STAR Labs instead of drive. Okay, so maybe my version of walking was flying, but could you blame me? Nine months ago I found out I was the impossible, how do I not take advantage of that? I made sure to land a block away from STAR Labs, trying my best not to raise any suspicion. “I’m back!” I cheered, walking into the cortex. Suddenly, a young man rotated to face me. “So am I!” He chirped, a smile stretching across his face. “Barry? I thought you said you were okay? Is something wrong?” Barry shrugged his shoulders. “Yes. No. I don’t know but whatever is happening is AWESOME!” he exclaimed. I gave Cisco a concerned look. “We’re heading to Ferris, apparently Barry has superspeed!” he said with a giddy grin. I turned to face Barry, whose face mimicked Cisco’s. “Bare? Are you sure you are okay?” I said placing a hand on his shoulder. “Never better,” he grinned. “Come on, let’s go.”
“You don't really believe he can run that fast, do you?” Caitlin asked me walking out of the van. I shrugged my shoulders, “I don’t know, it’s Barry and Barry’s usually right so…” Caitlin rolled her eyes at my response as she walked towards Barry to get him set up for his “test run”. “May I ask,” I jumped at the sound of Dr. Wells’ voice. “Doctor Wells, you scared me.” “Sorry, but as I was saying, why did you keep your prior relationship with Barry a secret.” He questioned, looking up at me. I cocked my head to the side, “I don’t really know why,” I sighed. “I guess I just didn’t to become as disruption. I mean he was in a coma for nine months, I wasn’t even sure he’d wake up.” “You care about him a lot, don’t you?” I thought of a response as I stared at Barry getting into a runner’s stance. “You could say that…”  Before I knew it Barry Allen was running faster than the speed of light, the Barry Allen who I’d beat in our daily sprints to my front yard. The Barry Allen who was always the last student to finish running the mile in gym class. He was ama- crashing, he was crashing. I couldn’t help but snort, causing the three scientists seated around me to stare in my direction. I mouthed a sorry before I got up and ran in Barry’s direction. “Barry, are you okay?” I whispered as I held out my hand to pull him off the ground. “Yeah, I’m fine. My arm just hurts a little that’s all.” I rolled my eyes, “Well then Bartholomew let’s get you back to STAR Labs and check on that arm.” Barry turned to face me and lightly punched me in the shoulder as we walked towards the van. “You know how much I hate that name…” he muttered. “Well, you don’t know how much I missed it.”
“It looks like you had a distal radius fracture.” Caitlin stated turning to Barry and I. “Had?” we asked in unison. “Okay, you guys are really starting to creep me out.” Cisco chuckled. “Anywho, it’s healed.” Caitlin said pointing at the X-Ray. “In three hours,” Barry stood up from the bed in the middle of the med bay, “How is that even possible?” Caitlin and Cisco shared a look. “We don’t know,” “Yet.” Doctor Wells added wheeling into the cortex. “You really need to learn how to stop.” I giggled. Dr. Wells looked at me, “What happened out there today? You were moving pretty well, and then something caused you to lose focus.” “I started remembering something.” Barry said looking over his shoulder towards me. “Barry, you don’t have to-” I shook my head but was interrupted, “But I should,” he paused taking a deep breath. “When I was 11, my mother was murdered. It was late, a sound woke me up. I came downstairs, and I saw what looked like a ball of lightning. Inside the lightning, there was a man. He killed my mom. They arrested my dad. He's still sitting in Iron Heights for her murder. Everyone, the cops, the shrink, they they all told me what I saw was impossible. But what if the man who killed my mom was like me?” Barry’s last sentence shocked me and brought me back to reality making me realize that Barry was now sitting next to me on the bed and I was rubbing his back. “Well I think I can say unequivocally you are one of a kind.” Doctor Wells said scanning the room.
After Caitlin made sure Barry was okay after his accident, he left saying he had unfinished work at CCPD. This left me, Caitlin, Cisco, and Dr. Wells alone in the cortex, eating Big Belly Burger. Cisco and Caitlin were talking about god knows what while I sat in my rolly chair thinking about all that had happen in the span of only a few days. “He’s a keeper Monica.” Cisco said ripping me away from my thoughts. “Hmm?” I asked confused. “Barry.” “Cisco, how many times do we have to go over this? Barry and I are just friends.” Cisco rolled his eyes. “Well that’s not the vibe I’ve been getting the past few days.” “Look, I don’t even think my friendship with Barry is stable right now, so the thought of being in a relationship with him just sounds stupid at this point. I mean I left him, with no explanation. God I was such a bitch.” “I wasn't the only one affected by the particle accelerator explosion, was I?” the man of the hour abruptly asked causing me to shrink into my chair. Everyone paused sharing awkward glances, “We don’t know for sure.” Dr. Wells finally answered. “You said the city was safe. That there was no residual danger.” Barry frantically replied, “But that’s not true, so what really happened that night?” Dr. Wells looked towards me and the two other scientists, “Well… the accelerator went active, we all felt like heroes and then…” An image showed up on the monitors, “It all went wrong. The dimensional barrier ruptured, unleashing unknown energies into our world. Antimatter, dark energies, x-elements-” “Those are all theoretical-” Barry interrupted, “-and how theoretical are you?” Dr. Wells snapped back as he turned his head back to the monitor, “We mapped the dispersion throughout and around Central City, though we have no way of knowing what or… who was exposed, we’ve been searching for other Metahumans like yourself.” “Metahumans?” Barry asked turning around. “That’s what we’re calling them.” Caitlin bluntly replied. “I saw one today.” Those four words that came out of Barry’s mouth confused and intrigued everyone. “He’s a bank robber, and he can control the weather.” “This just keeps getting cooler.” Cisco said with a big goofy grin that soon disappeared when I slapped his shoulder. “This is not cool. All right, a man died.” Barry said, his tone startling me, “Mardon must have gotten his powers the same way I did. From the storm cloud. And he’s still out there! We have to stop him before he hurts anyone else. “Barry!” I desperately shouted as he turned to walk away. “That’s a job for the police.” Dr. Wells muttered. “I work for the police.” Barry murmured. “As a forensic assistant.” “You’re responsible for this, for him.” “What’s important is you!” Dr. Wells snapped, “Not me, I lost everything. I lost my company. I lost my reputation. I lost my freedom. And then you broke your arm, and it healed in three hours. Inside your body could be a map to a whole new world… genetic therapies, vaccines, medicines, treasures buried deep within your cells and we cannot risk losing everything because you want to go out and play hero!” Dr. Wells mockingly yelled the last part, “You’re not a hero. You are just a young man who was struck by lightning.” Barry’s eyebrows began to furrow as I prepared myself to jump out of my seat and stop the cat fight that was about to occur. But instead Barry just walked away, disappearing into one of the hallways. “That was a little harsh…” I whispered
A few hours later Dr. Wells had already left, but Caitlin, Cisco, and I stayed late to finish up some work. I stood up to go use the restroom when a gust of wind blew my hair around. “Barry? What are you-” “I’ve been going over unsolved cases from the past nine months, and there’s been a sharp increase in unexplained deaths and missing people. Your Metahumans have been busy. Now, I’m not blaming you,” Barry said glancing at me, “I know you didn’t mean for any of this to happen. I know you all lost something.” He said turning to Caitlin, “But I need your help to catch Mardon and anyone else out there like him. But I can’t do it without you.” Cisco, Caitlin, and I all shared the same look as we tried to communicate our thoughts through facial expressions. “If we’re gonna do this, I have something that might help.” Cisco smiled walking out of the cortex, “Something I’ve been playing with.”  He turned a metal stand around that housed a crimson suit. “Designed to replace the the turnouts firefighters traditionally wear. I thought if STAR Labs could do something nice for the community, maybe people wouldn’t be so angry a Dr. Wells anymore.” I stepped forward. “How is it going to help Barry?” I asked, pointing a finger at the suit. “It’s made of a reinforced tripolymer, its heat and abrasive resistant, so it should withstand his moving at high velocity speeds. And the aerodynamic design should help him maintain control. Plus it has built in sensors so we can track his vitals and stay in contact with him from here.” he smiled. “Thanks.” Barry whispered. “Now how do we find Mardon. “I retasked STAR Labs satellite to track meteorological abnormalities over Central City.” I said, Barry staring at me with an impressed look on his face. “We just got a ping.” Caitlin said, tablet in hand, “Atmospheric pressure dropped 20 millibars in a matter of seconds. I’ve tracked it to a farm just west of the city.” I watched as Barry shuffled towards the suit, a smile growing on my face.
“Barry! Barry, this things getting closer. Wind speeds are 200 miles per hour and increasing.” I said into the coms. “Barry can you hear me?” “Yeah. Loud and clear.” he shouted back. “ If it keeps up, this could become an F-5 tornado.” “But it’s headed towards the city. How do I stop it?” Everyone in the lab was at a loss for words. “Guys?... What if I unravel it?” “How the hell are you going to do that?” Caitlin asked. “I’ll run around it in the opposite direction,” “Cut off it’s legs.” Barry and I said together. “He’d have to clock 700 miles per hour to do that.” Cisco muttered. “Your body may not be able to handle those speeds. You’ll die.” Caitlin spoke into the coms. “I have to try.” Barry shouted. “You don’t have to do this Barry.” I said waiting for a response, “Barry?” Then a gust of wind played through the speakers of the cortex as I turned to Caitlin to give her a concerned expression. “Ha ha, the suit’s holding up.” Cisco celebrated clenching his fist. “But he’s not.” Caitlin retorted. “He can do it,” I whispered, “I know he can do it.” All that was heard was the sound of wind until Barry’s grunts were played on the speakers. “It’s too strong!” he yelled. “You can do this Barry,” Dr. Wells said grabbing ahold of the mic, “You were right, I am responsible all for this so many people have been hurt because of me, and when I looked at you, all I saw was another potential victim of my hubris. Yes, I created this madness. But you, Barry, you can stop it. You can do this.” he spoke, “Now run, Barry, run!” Then the wind started again, as we all waited in anticipation. Then there was a scream and a loud crash. “Barry?” I asked, tears beginning to form in my eyes. All I could hear was mumbling and my heart began to pound, “I’m not like you.” Barry said allowing me to let out a sigh of relief. “You’re a murderer.” My heart clenched at the sound of gunshots. “Barry?!” I screamed. “It’s over.” he whispered. “I’m okay.” A smile cracked on my face, the other three scientists doing the same.
“I’m pretty sure I had about five heart attacks today.” I chuckled, looking over at Barry as we walked out of STAR Labs. “Yeah, sorry about that,” he apologized scratching the back if his neck. I breathed in the cool city air, looking at all the glowing windows and flashing streetlights. “Hey,” I turned my head to face Barry again, “Thank you. For being willing to help me out. Y-you know after-” “Yeah, no problem,” I said cutting him off. “I know it’s late but, would you like to go grab some coffee?” “As much as I’d really like to I have a feeling I’ll be needed for work early tomorrow morning.” A tight lip smile formed on my face. “Do you, umm, want a ride home?” I gently shook my head, “I’m fine, but thanks.” He nodded his head as I turned away. “Goodnight Monica.” “Goodnight Barry.” I whispered looking over my shoulder as he flashed away. Once he left I looked around to make sure the coast was clear. Then, my feet left the ground and I made my way home. As I looked below me I saw a bolt of lightning moving passed the cars crowded onto the highway. Monica, what have you gotten yourself into.
