The Lafayette Legacy - Generation 1 - The Songbirds
With the birth of Meadowlark and Sparrow’s birthday, I thought I’d finally get around to posting those look books before I lose Sparrow’s forever and forget in the flurry of school, the new baby, getting the other two to master their toddler skills and trying to get baby #5 in the barrel before Skylark ages up! We’re sitting at 26,000 simoleons in the bank currently, mostly due to Sky’s career freelancing as a graphic designer and selling paintings on the side. He’s gotten a little fame from that, too -- he got recognized at the pub the other night.
And yes, I’m aware Sparrow’s looks different. It was experimental and won’t be repeated, it was way too frustrating and fiddly. I’m still having scale troubles when taking screenshots, but I’m working on it lol.
CC lists under the cut and a HUGE thanks to the creators who make this madness possible! I’m still new at Simblr-ing and learning as I go, but I’ve had nothing but lovely experiences with each and every one of you I’ve reached out to. I honestly wish I had the talent to make my own cc, so you guys have my utmost respect.
All: Eyelashes by @kijiko-sims, Whisper Eyes by @dangerouslyfreejellyfish, Skin overlays by @remussirion, Baby Gums by @katverse

Ok the more I think about it the more questions I have about this Ruby/Anael thing:
1. Ruby didn’t even know angels existed when dean got out of hell...she was all, “the ground quakes, it’s cosmic” and no other demons knew either cause they were all scared out of their minds. Soooo was she lying about not knowing what angels were? Or just had never met one as strong as Castiel? I.e. an angel that could pull a soul out of hell? (As a “button pusher” I’m guessing Anael wasn’t a seraph and didn’t have anywhere near that kind of power).
2. I thought Anael came to earth in the fall?? I got the impression none of the “non important” angels were on earth before that?
3. HOW did Anael know that Ruby was in league with Lucifer? At the time, most demons didn’t even think he was real and because ruby was trying to play Sam, she definitely wasn’t advertising being a Lucifer gal like Meg was. Also her plan was super duper secret and only she and Lilith knew about it...why would she tell some random angel about that? Who she definitely didn’t trust?
4. How did Anael know that Lucifer and Michael were going to go at it when he was still in the cage?? And I’m guessing she wasn’t privy to super secret top dog angel info of the fact that they wanted him to get sprung? Unless she was just assuming that he’d get out with the help of the demons, and then they’d fight.
5. How had Sam and Dean never heard of sister jo if she was around in the 4th season? A person who lays hands on people and it glows and they’re healed? Hey Cas have you heard of this? Oh that sounds like an ANGEL. Definitely something they would have looked into. Unless Cas was like, oh don’t worry that’s just my best friend with amazing fashion sense she’s good, she’s with me.
THESE PLOT HOLES ARE KILLING ME. I get that they wanted to have the girls back on and for some reason they had to have scenes together...but I *feel* like that could have been written better, tighter. Like Cas and Anael go to the empty to talk to Ruby cause Anael has the object needed to go there. Or something.

TOP 25 FICS OF 2019
1. these roads will take you into your own country by @notbecauseofvictories | American Gods | Laura Moon/Mad Sweeney | WIP | 33k
Here’s a joke for you: a Muslim, a zombie, and a leprechaun walk into a bar in Misery, Indiana. No one stares, because no one in the puckered, shitty asshole of Misery, Indiana gives a fuck. The Colts are playing.
Heather Says: So. It’s funny that another of @notbecauseofvictories‘s stories is at the top of my list again this year. Keep in mind this list is sorted by when the fic was read rather than favorites (because that would get real complicated real quick). Clearly there must be something about January. There’s just something about the writing that is easy to slip into, be it a Star Wars fic or a Labyrinth fic or even a fic about Johnny and the Devil. This was lovely and I can’t wait until it’s finished.
2. eighteen wheels on an uphill climb by @honkforhankcon | Detroit: Become Human | Hank/Connor | 91k
Hank is going to die. He’s going to die right here in Kentucky, 53 years old, halfway to broke, and tragically sober. Survived only by a nine-year-old St. Bernard and the 31-year-old twink who delivered the fatal blow.
Heather Says: I don’t think that this is the first DBH fic that I sought out after beating the game, but it is the first that I loved enough to make it to this list. I didn’t think that I would go for a modern au for this fandom, certainly not a modern au wihere Hank is a truck driver and Connor is a sex worker (albeit briefly?) but here I am.
3. Fuck pride (pride only hurts, it never helps) by ImogenGotDrunk | Detroit: Become Human | RK900/Gavin Reed | 41k
After the android uprising, Connor becomes a permanent fixture in the DPD. That’s fine. Gavin can accept that. The dipshit’s more human than he used to be, and a decent detective to boot. Gavin can deal with him being around. What Gavin cannot deal with is Connor’s replica; two inches taller, blue-eyed, and with a mouth that Gavin doesn’t know whether to punch or take between his teeth. The RK900 model has been assigned as his partner for the foreseeable future.
Heather Says: I also never thought that I’d like a fic with Gavin in it. But I got curious about all the Reed900, and well, this fic really won me over. The writing is fantastic, and it softens Gavin while still keeping him believable. Also, well, I like the enemies to lovers thing.
4. Almost Cool by @blacktofade | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Ryan/Shane | 30k
While filming the Yuma Territorial Prison episode, Shane gets bitten by what he thinks is a bat. Spoiler alert: it's not.
Heather Says: This is actually the first thing that I read for this fandom. In fact, this is the fic that got me into Buzzfeed Unsolved in the first place. I’d seen a lot of art and gifs and fics pass my way, but I was only ever slightly interested in what I saw until this fic came through my inbox and piqued my curiosity.
5. Pride by @astolat | Game of Thrones | Jaime/Brienne/Cersei | 22k
Jaime didn’t understand why Cersei suddenly insisted on trimming his hair and shaving his beard, but he also didn’t care to fight her on it, even though he’d just as soon have kept the beard: it was bitterly cold in the small tower room with its arrow-slits.
Heather Says: Wowza. This fic was intense. I’ve always loved Jaime and Brienne. I’ve loved them since the second book, which was read at least a few years before I started loving them in the show. Adding Cersei to their dynamic would have probably been almost impossible to pull off if it was anyone else, but @astolat lives to surpass my expectations.
6. Skin and Scales by Ernmark | The Penumbra Podcast | Lord Arum/Sir Damien/Rilla | 18k
The man glares, and this time, Damien is certain it isn’t a trick of the light: those eyes are violet as amethyst. He wears disdain like a second skin–- or, perhaps, like the scales that he is missing. “Lord Arum?”
Heather Says: I was one of those people who skipped through all of the Second Citadel episodes during my first listen through of Penumbra. The stories were good, but the pull of Juno was too great. A couple months after I finished, I went back and listened to everything I didn’t. And let me tell you. Lizard monster. Honorable knight. Bookish girlfriend. Poly. It hit every single button I had and then some. This fic really hit the spot when I ran out of story.
7. someone you like by caela | She-Ra | Adora/Catra | 5k
catwithabat u think ur so hipster but u just look like a lesbian 27m she_ra @catwithabat bc… i’m a lesbian. lmao 5m
Heather Says: Noooot usually a big fan of high school fics. Namely because I’m not in high school anymore and well, after you read so many in your teenage years they sort of lose their luster. This one was phenomenal enough to change my mind.
8. Sands of Time by @tirsynni | Legend of Zelda | Ganondorf/Link | WIP | 98k
Link awakens in the desert with no idea how he got there, to encounter his worst enemy...except it was the King of the Gerudo, not the King of Evil, he faced.
Heather Says: I have seen a lot of really good Link/Ganondorf art over the years, but never really stumbled across a fic that didn’t have judicious amount of non-con involved. But the Breath of the Wild 2 trailer happened, and everybody started drawing really pretty art, so I went looking. And lo and behold, @tirsynni saved the day with this gorgeous time travel/fix-it fic.
9. killed with kindness by veterization | Persona 5 | Akechi/Akira | 52k
Goro can't quite figure out why so many people keep acting like they're his friend. (Or: the one where the Phantom Thieves decide to know thy enemy, befriend thy enemy, love thy enemy, crush on thy enemy).
Heather Says: I’ve read a couple of veterization’s fics over the years, and to date they have never disappointed me. They published this in June, and I think I clicked on it mostly because I was bored and hadn’t read any good P5 fic yet. This was basically just what the doctor ordered, and I was really happy to find something where Akechi’s story went ever so slightly different.
10. paper thin by @ebonybow | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Ryan/Shane/Sara | 9k
Shane’s new neighbors are a morning-sex kind of couple.
Heather Says: So I went into this one knowing very little about how Sara fit into things. I didn’t know she was Shane’s girlfriend. I’d never even seen her, but I clicked because I like poly and I trust the author. I was 100% not disappointed. There’s also another fic with a very similar dynamic here, which is also aces.
11. damn.nation, now available on itunes by @kaikamahine | Good Omens | Aziraphale/Crowley | 11k
When lowly tempt-pusher Amphora (formerly of Stairwell 7B North, before she Fell,) gets the notice that end times are nigh, she gleefully quits her job and cancels her Netflix subscription and takes her place among the legions of hell. This, it turns out, was a bad plan.
Heather Says: Elizabeth may have only written one fic this year, but she made it a damn good one. I’ve always loved her OCs especially, so I was pretty tickled that this is 10k+ of outsider pov. Also, demons! Demons are great! This demon is great! I want like 9 seasons and a movie about Amphora, just saying.
12. The Dragon and Her Wolves by hapakitsune | Game of Thrones | Jon/Sansa/Daenarys | 60k
When the truth of Jon's birthright is revealed, control of the North and Daenerys's claim to the Iron Throne are both called into question. To preserve their tenuous alliance and secure her rule, Daenerys puts aside her personal feelings to arrange a marriage of political convenience between Jon and Sansa Stark.
Heather Says: What do you mean season 8 didn’t exist and the show totally ended with a three way relationship between the two most powerful women in Westeros and Jon Snow? Never been a big fan of Jon/Sansa before this, but this is another of those writers that I would literally trust if they wrote a fic about a fork and a spoon.
13. never tell me the odds by @wildehacked | Wolf 359 | Eiffel/Hera | 9k
“I tried Star Wars," he says, adjusting the phone under his neck, "and it was way underwhelming.”
A shaky breath from her end. “Well, where did you start?”
Heather Says: I don’t remember which of @wildehacked‘s fandoms I started reading first. Most recently it’s been The Magnus Archives (more on this later). The point is, they’d written Wolf 359 fic and it had Hera and Eiffel and it was literally everything that I’ve been looking for since the series ended.
14. Find Me Somebody by raiining | Good Omens | Warlock/Adam Young | 11k
“You left me,” he said. “You both left me, for him. And I can’t even blame you, because I’d have left me for him too.”
Heather Says: There was an Art. The art was lovely. So I went looking, because that’s what I do when faced with beautiful art depicting a rare pairing. And I found the holy grail. Like, possibly my favorite Good Omens fic? Ever?
15. flirting with fire by @brawlite | Stranger Things | Billy/Steve | WIP | 7k
Steve's a cop, Billy's a firefighter. It's not a grudge, it's just a regular old small town rivalry.
Heather Says: Okay so brawlite has written a lot of great stuff this year (more on that later), but I read this in bed at the beach house this August while I was reeling from both a horrible sunburn and like seven hours of mild to moderate day-drinking while everyone else was still throwing back shots right outside my bedroom door. Jaws was playing on the tv and I wasn’t even paying attention to it, because THIS. Long story short, I’ve been thirsty for more ever since.
16. gold, when you find me by mmtion | The Flash | Iris/Barry | 53k
It's not that Iris hates The Flash, per say - more that she hates writing about The Streak in a weekly, pun-heavy comic based on The Flash.
Heather Says: I never would have thought that a canon pairing would make it to my Top 25 list, but here we are. I like Iris/Barry a lot better when they don’t grow up together and spend a lot of time playing the Superman game, apparently. Also, this was really well-written, and sexual tension has never been something I’ve felt from Barry and Iris, but I felt it in this fic. Just. Damn.
17. never gets old by @brawlite & @toast-ranger-to-a-stranger| Stranger Things | Billy/Steve | 78k
Falling in love with a cam boy named KingSteve isn't the smartest thing Billy Hargrove has ever done, nor is it the most healthy -- but the good choice is rarely ever the fun choice, and Billy is all about living life fast and loose.
Heather Says: Told you I’d come back to it. brawlite and toastranger are a fantastic team. last year was cherry pie and under the covers, this year it’s camboys and cop/firefighter dynamics. Also, I have a really strange fascination with fics where a character has an instragram. It’s really, incredibly strange. Also also, every time I see this fic title I get that one Discovery Channel song stuck in my head. And no, it probably isn’t the one you’re thinking.
18. ways to save the world by @wildehacked | The Magnus Archives | Martin Blackwood/Jon Sims | 19k
“I left you,” Martin says softly.
Heather Says: And we’re back at wildehacked too! The Magnus Archives was a thing that happened to me. This is I think the first fic I read for it while listening, and it was so very close to what we got in canon. I think when it comes down to it though, I still prefer this fic, even if the ending of this season was pretty fantastic.
19. The Denial Twist by beethechange | Buzzfeed Unsolved | Ryan/Shane | 35k
“This is kind of surreal,” Shane says, taking a sip of his tea. It’s piping hot and delicious, except it tastes like hot chocolate and not like tea at all. “Sort of—Wonka-esque, right? Or Alice in Wonderland.”
Heather Says: While the vampire one is my favorite both because it is excellent and because it was my first, this one was bizarre and sexy and also I read it like only a month or so ago! The dancing was my favorite part, but having dreams to work with made this story fantastically interesting and I loved every second of it.
20. silver in our lungs by taywen | Spinning Silver | Miryem/The Staryk Lord | 4k
The marks had been with Miryem for as long as she could remember. There were a number of them, all the same shade, following one after the other around her left wrist. They were pale as old scars, though they felt no different from the rest of her skin, and her mother claimed that Miryem had been born with them.
Heather Says: I really like soulmate aus. There’s so many different ways to twist them and the way they can sometimes change the dynamic entirely and other times not change them at all is just fascinating. I’ve been hoping there would be more Spinning Silver content on ao3 and running into this while I was trying to decide what I wanted to do for yuletide was a real treat.
21. you got me begging, begging, i'm on my knees by plalligator | The Queen’s Thief | Attolia/Eugenides/Costis | 5k
Costis has a particularly enlightening evening. (or, that struggle when you're a guard who's in love with your rulers and it turns out you would kind of like it if they bossed you around a little)
Heather Says: I accidentally re-read the King of Attolia and it made me consider ships I had perhaps not previously considered. This was really lovely and just steamy enough.
22. something more alive than silence by pageleaf | The Queen’s Thief | Attolia/Eugenides/Costis | 21k
It was a good thing that six months after the king had promised to halve the guard, he still hadn’t done it, because since then, there had been two attempts on the king’s life.
Heather Says: I want to only type the words AGONIZED NOISES to describe this fic because that’s basically my headspace when I get 21k of a shiny new ot3, but I mean. Really. This is super good and maybe my favorite yet? Why didn’t I start reading this fandom when I first read the books?
23. Timing it Right by DragonBandit | The Bright Sessions | Mark/Damien | 14k
The dragon chooses, Mark knows that as well as any boy born in a weyr. He'd never considered what that would mean if the dragon picked someone you hated. He's starting to think that was a mistake.
Damien's gold rises at Whitney. Mark tries to make things right.
Heather Says: This should actually be somewhere back in March, but I apparently closed out of the tab at some point. I never really got into Pern much. I have the first three books, but got most of the way through the first one a long time ago and then never picked it back up. I didn’t think I would like this, mostly because of the fact that I hadn’t gotten into the books, but was surprised to find that I absolutely loved it.
24. Keep It In Your Sights Now by LuckyDiceKirby | Shades of Magic | Lila/Kell/Holland | 9k
Holland travels with Lila and Kell. Somewhere along the way, they reach an equilibrium.
Heather Says: I love the new things I’ve discovered during my yuletide trompings. I don’t think I ever actually considered this pairing when I first read the books, but I am just so enamored with the idea of the three of them together. Like, why did I not realize that potential back then? This was lovely, and I loved it, and I want so much more out of this pairing than what ao3 has to offer me.
25. Charioteer by petrichoral | The Queen’s Thief | Gen & Costis | 13k
Captured in battle and stuck in the Mede capital, Costis has given up all hope of seeing his country again. But Eugenides has a habit of turning up where he's least expected.
Heather Says: Technically this shouldn’t be on here because I only read it today, but it was really wonderful and so canon typical. Gen and Costis were perfect in it, Irene was perfect in it. Everyone was perfect and nothing hurts.

Yugioh S4 Ep 9: Denial on so Many Fronts
I’ve managed to have a pretty open timeslot this holiday, where I decided I was going to do lots of catch up work. (I have instead filled up my Background Music Playlist with lots of youtube piano covers of Castlevania.)
So of course I find myself back at this blog to fill the leftover time, it being so many weeks (months, actually) since I was able to do a double update weekend (spoiler, I did not finish a second update  :) ).
This episode, Yugioh decided to legitimately enter romance territory and y’all it is something. And I don’t mean it in a “Ain’t that something!” sort of way, I mean it in the “That is...something.” Kind of way. And for the first time in forever, I actually have to talk about romance today. For once that is actually something this episode is about. For about 5 entire minutes. It’s staggering.
So lets get into it because the stance the show decides to take against the only valid romantic relationship it’s had outside of Pegasus sure is something.
Tumblr media
Duke has managed to get inside Pegasus’ facility/Place Duke works at every single day. Incredible that he finally made it inside of his actual workplace. Whether he just found an open door or Metal Geared up a trash chute is undeclared, since that was all off screen between episodes, but maybe he has to do this like...all the time? Like heaven forbid Duke ever leave his phone at the office because this place seems iron clad and apparently there is absolutely no one he can call to let him in.
Like for reals isn’t Duke upper level management or something? Like a team director for an entire model of card game? Wtv, I guess he got demoted at some point and now he’s at the same level as a Google temp.
Duke used to air on international TV, just throwing that out there. He used to be a very big deal. Course, for all we know, maybe he also got locked out of his game store all the freakin time?
Anyway, he finds some random room he’s decided is the security room and uh...
Tumblr media
Starts just mashing buttons.
I assume that he was just mashing the entire time it took for this duel to last, PS, because we all know that password, but does Duke? Is Duke, in fact, the only character left on this show that doesn’t know Pegasus’ password because he wasn’t there in most of S1?
(read more under the cut)
As Joey is playing Mai, he’s noticed that she is freaking out, but only intermittently. She’s going in between personalities like Yugi and Pharaoh.
Tumblr media
In the show it makes it seem like she’s “Snapping out of it” as far as the Orichalcos’ effects go. But like...becoming a stumbling crying mess in between card draws is sort of like...not making Joey look like a good guy.
In fact, this episode goes out of their way to try and paint him a hero but they didn’t accomplish that. They start to. It starts to look like that. As Mai is breaking down, she loses her weird Oricalchos ability to no longer feel fear, and Joey takes the opportunity to try and get her to away from the dark side.
Thing is, the duel has already started so it’s kind of moot now since neither she nor Joey really know how to end the duel without killing the other. So it’s like he’s trying to reach out to her the only way he can since this duel wasn’t his choice anyway, but it is in a way that is killing both of them. Symbolism, I guess.
You know, it seemed like the show just needed a way to put a timer over Joey’s head and this was the only excuse they could give because the right thing to have done is just not play anything.
And that whole thing last episode where Pharaoh was like “there is ONE way out of this situation” I assumed would be about a tie. I kind of just assumed a tie would take place like between Kaiba and Alister...instead...it got weird.
First off, Valon--out of all people, Valon the drug card pusher of the wacky accent--decided to be more heroic than any of our heroes who are currently just gawking at a force field.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s been like 4 seasons since Yugi jumped and hung off the edge of a clocktower, only holding on by the point of his pyramid puzzle, and I keep seeing situations where we could see Yugi impress us yet again and instead he keeps his feet planted firmly on the ground while random ass Valon just shoots into the air like a rubber band.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why didn’t I just assume that when Pharaoh said “I know how to beat this.” he meant to punch it directly in the face?
Tumblr media
I’m pretty sure it’s an allusion to the fact that Oricalchos takes away your sense of fear that these three are constantly being huge idiots and jumping off ledges and out of airplanes but like...
...they are wearing a lot of padding, to be fair.
Tumblr media
(I joke about Joey getting possessed as if he hasn’t been already)
And so Valon, this evil as hell villain who’s probably killed countless numbers of people up until now just starts freaking out about Mai. Like, a lot for this show. Like we even get a really awkward death squeeze. And like she ain’t even dead.
Tumblr media
Almost like Severus Snape in that awkward Harry Potter Movie flashback, but Valon actually dated her once (I could go off about the Harry Potter movies but I’ll spare you.) It’s just every time Mai passes out there will be some man crying over her that she doesn’t even seem remotely aware of when she’s awake.
Like remember how Mai got engaged and she forgot? At the time I thought that was super weird but I’m starting to realize she probably just took a nap or something and then boom.
So although none of this is Raphael’s business, he’s so annoyed at Valon for possibly pissing off Darts that he decides to deflect his anger onto Pharaoh--who wasn’t even participating in this duel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean Raphael wanted to kill Pharaoh anyway but it still feels like kind of a reach.
Speaking of reach...I miss our really good storyboarder. Check out that foreshortened hand. Man Yugioh, the whiplash from good to eh. It’s so much whiplash.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, in a burst of green light, the three bikers vanish.
And I guess now they can just use Mai’s bike whenever, because it’s not like she’s gonna use it. But I doubt very much Tristan will remember that.
Tumblr media
And so, this is about where this episode’s romance goes a little weird because Joey just...
Tumblr media
Am I supposed to want Joey to break up Valon and Mai? Like I know one time Joey attempted to take a fireball for her (but didn’t, that was Pharaoh, who isn’t currently crying about Mai despite taking a fireball for her), and then another time Joey dueled Marik for her (and lost.) But like...then Joey lost touch with her for over a year and legitimately didn’t seem bothered until just now when she showed up.
Valon not only seems at least 2 years older than Joey, he’s also stuck around with her for longer than a week, which is much longer than the amount of time that Joey Wheeler has spent with her (while she was conscious). And listen I don’t ship, you know me, but I feel like the show isn’t doing a good job to convince me that Valon is anything but loyal to Mai. Just throwing that out there.
It just comes off that Joey is jealous and unable to cope with Mai being around another guy, when it’s like...Joey...Mai was gone for over a year. You can’t claim dibs anymore. It’s possessive this episode to a degree I don’t think the writers wanted to go. It feels like an accident that they wrote him like this.
I guess, story wise, Joey needs a reason to duel and be on this show--but why must it always gravitate around a girl who’s actually just fine without him?
Like Mai right now is a mess but she wants to be this mess. Personally I think he should respect her decision and give her space but I guess this show really wants to go the angle of “If your friend goes off the deep end, dive after them” to which I would like to say “or don’t.”
Like I think this is all on a case by case basis, but...Mai’s MURDERED people (and a gas station). Although one of them was Pegasus, who doesn’t count, this is still a situation where you should maybe avoid your friend and just call the cops already. If there has been a murder, especially if there’s been over 20 murders, it’s OK to finally call the cops. Mai is a SERIAL MURDERER, which should never mean “she can come back.”
I mean it’s not like any of these kids decided to start hanging out with Marik, right? And I mean they kinda all decided unanimously that maybe they should hold back chilling with Bakura? This should be old hat for them now. They’ve had to deal with the murderous betraying friend so many times. Why must Mai be so special?
But I guess that is Joey’s whole shpeal, isn’t it? That’s Joey’s magical superpower? He wouldn’t be friends with Yugi if he was bothered by his friend occasionally going Pure Asshole. And Joey did have a darker background himself (which is something the show keeps telling me but I have never actually seen because we haven’t seen it in Season Zero. Which honestly means I should do a Season Zero next because how long am I going to wait to watch that Joey backstory?)
So I guess I should stop being so practical about it, this is a fantasy story, and the fantasy of Joey Wheeler is that he can actually try to keep the people in his life from going topside and it actually works. The most magical person in all of Yugioh if that’s true because you ever try and change a drug addict? There’s a reason why they have therapists for that.
Speaking of topside,
Tumblr media
Kaiba just shows up in the middle of a Joey meltdown and youknow what? He’s barely even that surprised that these guys are in San Fransisco crying on the floor of his ex-competitor’s lobby. He’s just so used to this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And so, we’re all going to ignore Joey and just try not to notice Rex and Weevil and instead talk about cards.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ps in the show Mokuba says his brother “swept the floor” of Alister when like...Seto nearly died multiple times. Mokuba’s so ready to lie his face off to save his brother’s face when like...no one asked. He just volunteered this information.
That and Mokuba might not actually know how this game is played (NO ONE REALLY KNOWS) and legitimately thinks his brother did really good in that card game. We still don’t know entirely what the title “Battle Commissioner” even meant and knowing this company it was probably a secret job made to hide lots and lots of illicit insider trading. Because we all know Mokuba wasn’t playing cards.
So, Yugi remembers that he has this key card that is a card with a key printed on it, and figures...it probably opens a door or something. That maybe they should do that thing they came to California to do, and since all (counts on fingers) 9 of them (10 if you count Pharaoh) are here, they may as well all do it together.
Meanwhile, every animator in that studio cried a single tear over the amount of bad hair they will have to shove into every frame between 9 of these people. Crowd scenes wow.
Tumblr media
And what’s great about this next shot is that you have no idea which way Joey’s head is pointed. I dare you. take it in.
Tumblr media
And so they all go up to the top floor with Duke Devlin while these two are just...still here.
Rex and Weevil are still here. Despite everything.
Tumblr media
(forgive me if this is a joke I forgot I read off of tumblr once. I’ve been reviewing this show so long I just...I don’t remember what jokes I’ve already made)
Tumblr media
(Also, I can’t believe they stuck in Rex and Weevil but didn’t put in Mokuba into this shot.)
So they open the cryptic door with the cryptic Keycard and enter...Pegasus’ room of toon suits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I imagine he just pulls these out whenever there’s an event in the city, just like “Hell yes hell yes it’s Bay to Breakers time to be a parrot with boobs for some reason.”
Tumblr media
(fun fact, despite the weather, SF is home to 3 clothes-optional beaches. You can see two of them from the Bridge.)
And so Pegasus decides to tell everybody what we already know. Rex and Weevil have overheard this, but they’re busy like...looking for trading cards in all these mascot suits. Whatever makes it easier for this team of animators. Like you never really think about it, but kid’s shows have just a hell ton of crowd scenes. Worse than a Marvel comic right here.
PS, if you are designing a comic or a drawn story of any degree--just never allow a party to be more than 4 people at a time, Kill off anyone you have to in order to make this happen, you’ll thank me later. Never EVER a draw a crowd scene. Once you do, then other people will think that you can draw crowd scenes, and you never, ever want anyone to know that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was nice of Pegasus to let Arthur Hawkin’s take the fame for Atlantis, I guess. But like...Pegasus just...he really doesn’t seem to care about the fate of humanity unless it inconveniences his card game.
Tumblr media
Bro brought up “how much do you think Pharaoh even knows about America other than it’s a place across the sea that Rebecca lives? Like do you think that he has a good grasp on there being 7 continents?” and I’m guessing...not much. Course this is like a weird America with mesas and deserts in Napa so...I don’t know if the animators have a good grasp even.
Anyway, where do you think the key is?
Tumblr media
And What do you think the key is?
Tumblr media
So in the show Kaiba sees this card and goes “It’s a worthless card” (because I dunno maybe he forgot for the zillionth time that this was how he got turned into a playing card) and then Pharaoh replies “Maybe to you it is.” and like...
...You know the thought crossed Pharaoh’s mind.
To just put a little Seto in there.
Youknow, it took me 4 seasons but I can deffo see why and how Pegasus did it. If I were in Pegasus’ shoes, how long would it take me before the Kaiba kids are paper? Like 10-20 minutes tops? Especially with how completely insane Kaiba acts this episode?
And speaking of endless denial, Joey still hasn’t quite caught up to the plot.
He’s getting there, but he’s mentally still crying on the floor of the lobby.
Tumblr media
Just Joey going all ham about a girl he hasn’t thought about in over a year. And then from the other side of the room, Kaiba is still coming to terms with Ep 2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like you have to hand it to Duke Devlin that not once in this entire series has he had a denial meltdown. Even Yugi had a denial meltdown (at several points) but Duke? Duke’s just winging it. Dukes just has no idea what’s happening or what he’s doing and is just winging it every second he’s been alive. He’d fit right into San Fransisco.
Like remember Duke hangs out in the bad parts of the Tenderloin for some reason, he deals with PG&E just deleting your power willy nilly and still making you pay for it, Comcast, Bay Area traffic, and, of course, the entire North Bay lighting on fire once a year, so he’s totally fine when it comes to cards.
And so Yugi, just unable to think of any solution to Kaiba being a wall just holds this up
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And so with that, Kaiba has joined the party. I guess.
Well, back to eating this large stack of holiday cookies. Hope y’all have a good one--happy holidays!
It’s been a very weird year, but we’ve had some good news here in the States recently, I’m sure you all heard about it, that Inktober is legally unprofitable so now that means there will be nigh an Inktober ever again, and I am so stoked. I am so excited that the decade of hellish Inktobers is finally over.
That and the other stuff that happened but we won’t get into that ;)
Hopefully I’ll do another post before 2020 but I’m sort of in denial that 2020 is happening so I’m doing my best not to look at the calendar.
And if you just got here, this is where you can read my recaps in Chrono order from S1 Ep1

1950s Fashion Trends that Should Make a Comeback
1950s is often looked back upon as a decade full of innovations and creativity In the fashion industry. There were tremendous amounts of designs and styles available back then to cater to the female gender. There were new silhouettes and playful looks that were vibrant and full of color. There was a general inclination towards hourglass figures. The 50s is associated largely with fashion because of famous icons as well who graced the screen and displayed the various styles going around. Icons like Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and Grace Kelly honored and enhanced the styles.
There was also the birth of rockabilly genre which was a fusion of country and rock music. With this new genre, came a new wave of styles. Here are 5 1950s dresses that should make a comeback:
Pencil Skirts
First up, pencil skirts were widely worn in that decade. These skirts would suit perfectly to an hourglass figure and were also called “wiggle skirts” as women would have to wiggle in them whilst walking. Hugging the curves, these were more than often as long as knee length and were worn mostly in professional settings.  They would be fashioned in solid colors or with plaid prints.
Tumblr media
Poodle Skirts
Clearly, the 50s were big on skirts as there were a number of styles incorporated in skirts. Clinched at the waist, these skirts would flare out from the knee below and give a very graceful and delicate look. These were worn with button down blouses and would give a very refined outline of the figure. Poodle skirts were mostly worn on special occasions and were a huge hit at house parties.
Tumblr media
Polka dots
Polka dots are often used by people to accentuate retro styles because they were a huge hit back in the 50s. This was a very playful and youthful design that was by women which added a fun and happy and joyful element to their wardrobes. These polka dots were majorly red and white, black and white and even black and red sometimes.
Tumblr media
Capris
Capris were hugely famous back then because of the sense of glamour they bring along with them while also having a grip on ease. These capris were brought to the public eye by movie stars and were then adapted by the general public. These capris were also called pedal pushers and added a flirtatious touch to the wardrobe.  The capri pants would usually be accessorized with scarves and sunglasses.
Tumblr media
Cardigans and Blouses
There were styles present for all the seasons and cardigans played a huge part in the wardrobe compilation for the winters and the fall. Worn easily with skirts and pants, these were the top choice for an upper body clothing piece. These blouses and cardigans were styled in lots of different ways with large collars or closed collars, beautiful buttons placed strategically or even plaits on the blouses adding an element of sophistication.

November Forecast for Capricorn
Let it go, let it flow! A major 12-year chapter of your life is coming to an end, Capricorn, and you’ll have the next 13 months to navigate the transition. On November 8, Jupiter, the planet of growth, luck and expansion, will shift into Sagittarius and your twelfth house of closure until December 2, 2019. This is a year to “sort the crops,” evaluating everything you’ve created since 2007 and looking at where you want (or need) to correct course.
It sounds serious, and well, this IS a pretty big deal. You’re preparing to start a whole new 12-year cycle in December 2019, when auspicious Jupiter will shift into Capricorn and put your personal goals on the fast track. Until then, you may feel a bit tired or low-key since the twelfth house rules the subconscious, and your “inner world” will be the most active realm of your life. Vivid dreams, serendipitous moments and a slower pace will become the new normal.
In other words, Capricorn, prepare to exit your comfort zone! Well, maybe not entirely because you’ll still have structured Saturn marching through your sign until 2020, making sure you stay on top of your most important goals. At least you’ll still have a tether to the material world. But don’t expect to be too anchored there! With Jupiter in your imaginative and spiritual twelfth house, the next 13 months could awaken your artistic side or help you tap into healing and esoteric abilities. The key word for the twelfth house is “surrender”—and, well, that’s not easy for any mortal to pull off (least of all a take-charge Capricorn!). But you’ll grow so much in the coming months when you stop forcing agendas and swimming upstream and allow the universe to step in to offer a little divine guidance.
The twelfth house rules all things hidden, and that includes agendas. You may find out exactly who is—and isn’t—on Team Capricorn since people’s true colors are clearly revealed by truth-teller Jupiter. With the Sun in Scorpio and your eleventh house of group activity until November 22 (and an eye-opening Scorpio new moon on November 7), you could start shifting some of your alliances this month.
Some of the people you distance yourself from may even share your DNA. You’ll find out starting November 6, when radical changemaker Uranus takes a final four-month lap through Aries and your fourth house of home and family. From March 2011 to May 2018, the side-spinning planet shook up this foundational part of your chart, which may have brought a move, a pregnancy or shifting dynamics with relatives (especially your mother or close female kin). If you’re the type of Capricorn who carries the weight of the world on your shoulders, authentic Uranus helped you “get real” and start liberating yourself from those codependent ties.
Now you have one last round of this before Uranus makes a permanent exit from Aries on March 6, 2019, not to return again in this lifetime. Translation? Your holiday guest list might be a little thinner, but the people on it will actually be enjoyable company. Or if you do a big family gathering, you’ll make sure to keep impenetrable boundaries with the button pushers and avoid the polarizing political conversations. Pro tip: Don’t offer up Casa de Capricorn as a crash pad this year—and if you’re the one traveling, rent a hotel or Airbnb instead of staying with relatives.
On November 16, there’s a retrograde “changing of the guard” as love planet Venus ends a six-week backspin and communicator Mercury STARTS a three-week reversal. Venus has been retrograde since October 5, backing through Libra and your career zone for the past two weeks. If you’ve been at odds with colleagues or feeling out of sorts about work, that’s why. The tenth house also rules fathers and men, so this Venus cycle may have stirred up discord with an important guy in your life.
Any lingering resentments will need to be addressed as Mercury turns retrograde from November 16 to December 6, spending the bulk of its backspin in Sagittarius and your twelfth house of closure and forgiveness. Prepare those olive branches! When the Sun joins Jupiter and Mercury in Sagittarius on November 22, you’ll have a full month to work through any of these issues—and to catch up on serious rest before Capricorn season begins on December 21. Until then, take it easy because you’ll probably feel a bit foggy and emotional, and you need to be gentle with yourself.
You’ll have moment of clarity on November 23, when the year’s only Gemini full moon beams into your orderly and analytical sixth house. Your intuition that’s been running in the background will suddenly connect the dots. If you’ve been weighing a decision, today you could finally make it. The sixth house also rules health and fitness, and this one lunation falls oh-so inconveniently on Thanksgiving weekend in the U.S. But hey, there’s no rule that you have to slip into a post-turkey tryptophan food coma; or if you did that already, don’t beat yourself up—just move on. Today’s moonbeams could inspire a switch to more mindful eating and regular exercise over the holidays. Everything in moderation!
There’s plenty to enjoy about the holidays besides the food, anyway—like the company of great friends. And your social life will be on a definite upswing starting November 24, when hazy Neptune ends a five-month retrograde through Pisces and your third house of communication and community. If you’ve felt a little adrift from your most compassionate crew since June 18 or just haven’t had the time or motivation to catch up, Neptune’s direct turn will help you connect. Make space for meaningful moments over the holiday season.
One of the month’s most heart-opening days arrives on November 26, when the Sun and Jupiter make their annual meetup, this year in Sagittarius and your healing twelfth house. This could be a huge day for epiphanies, from emotional breakthroughs to a major reconciliation (forgiveness is powerful!) to finally letting yourself process a situation that caused heartbreak or grief. While that doesn’t exactly sound like FUN, it’s vital that we let blocked feelings get unstuck, especially because they can lead to stress and even disease if left unattended for too long. This powerful meetup of the life-giving Sun and generous Jupiter reminds you: Suffering is optional! So we recommend opting out and letting yourself be human—vulnerable, messy, real and loveable just the way you are.
Love & Romance
So…where is this thing going? If you’re almost afraid to ask, we can’t blame you, Capricorn. Love planet Venus is wrapping up her retrograde mid-month, a challenging cycle that’s wreaking havoc on hearts from October 5 to November 16. Venus was retrograde in Scorpio and your idealistic eleventh house until October 31 before backing into Libra and your tenth house of long-term plans for the duration.
If you’ve been “future-tripping”—i.e., obsessing over what’s next instead of enjoying the moment—then Venus retrograde has probably been extra-tough for you. Figuring out which way to go has been as clear as cauliflower soup! And since no self-respecting Capricorn likes to travel without a map, you’ll be oh-so-glad to see Venus correct course on November 16. The cosmic love goddess will remain in Libra for the rest of the month, but after that, you’re all clear to resume plotting out your world-domination-for-two master plan!
Meantime, intensifier Mars has been in Aquarius since September 10, heating up your second house of work, money and security. Mars is here until November 15, adding to the pressure to lock in something solid and possibly causing couples to fight over finances. Your hectic schedule and weighty responsibilities may also have made you short-tempered. On the upside, Mars in this posh house could have brought some sultry and sophisticated date nights!
Book yourself one of those on November 9, when Venus and Mars form their third and final trine of the year—a lovely connection that brings out everyone’s best (in spite of Venus still being retrograde). Couples who WANT to talk about the future should book the best table, open a bottle and do it in a luxe, five-star setting today. Bring some pleasure and pampering into the picture, and people will be far more amenable to hearing your requests for more consistency in the relationship, for example. (Just save the Excel spreadsheets for another day…and focus on the Egyptian cotton sheets instead.)
On November 15, Mars will move into Pisces, heating up your third house of communication for the rest of the year. Not only will the red planet add vibrancy to your social life, but single Caps could do some first-class flirting (and who knows where THAT will lead) just as the mistletoe and ambient lighting is being hung.
Key Dates
November 26: Sun-Jupiter Meetup This brilliant annual conjunction could be one the happiest or luckiest days of your year! This time, the annual summit electrifies your twelfth house of recovery, transitions and soulmates. You can almost magically heal a sore spot in your relationship by choosing to forgive and forget (or asking for forgiveness). Singles might meet someone who you feel like you’ve known for lifetimes—’cause maybe you have!
Money & Career
It ain’t over till it’s over! Go-getter Mars is in Aquarius until November 15, revving up your second house of work and money. Mars has been here since September 10, bringing demanding deadlines and duties, stressful expenses as well as money-making opportunities in increased doses. You may need to lean in just a little bit longer—while also navigating some irritating office politics thanks to Venus being retrograde in your career house until November 16. Stay focused on your work and don’t get involved! It would be tempting to unload your stress on someone, but that will only distract you from your duties.
On November 15, Mars moves into Pisces and your communicative third house for the rest of the year. It will be easier to have direct, productive dialogues then (but watch for coming on too strong). A project you’ve been toiling away at might be ready to pitch or put on the market—just in time for Black Friday and holiday season sales.
The Gemini full moon on November 23 prompts you to take inventory of Team Capricorn. If you need to cut some slackers (or properly train people, if they’re not being put to full use), this is a day to start hiring, firing or implementing new systems that will help your life run more smoothly. With Jupiter now in your twelfth house of surrender and rest, you’re gonna need some extra hands, so you might as well start sharpening your delegating skills now.
Key Dates
November 19: Mars-Jupiter Square Under this square between aggro Mars and never-say-never Jupiter, you want to dig in your heels and keep fighting the “good” fight. But if you pause for a moment to observe, you’ll realize it’s only making matters worse. Work harder to find the strength to compromise. Sometimes it’s actually more effective to humble yourself and extend the olive branch.
Love Days: 24, 29 Money Days: 8, 18 Luck Days: 29, 16 Off Days: 27, 31, 13

SNOW REMOVAL PRICING SERVICES OMAHA NE
OMAHA SNOW REMOVAL PRICING
Cost of snow removal services near Omaha NE: It's a question many people ask themselves each and every winter. Even if you're willing and able to shovel your own snow, there are also a handful of legitimate reasons to stay inside with a cup of hot chocolate and have someone else take care of the snow for you. First and foremost is safety. You don't need a slipped disk or scoliosis because the rigors of shoveling snow may be too much for your back to take. Even back-friendly shovels and proper technique won't eliminate the health risks for many people.
In fact, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, tens of thousands of people are treated at emergency rooms each year for injuries related to snow shoveling. The key is to get out there early and often. When a big snow storm hits, shoveling throughout the day, while the snow remains fresh and powdery, is critical.
Forget Shovels - What about Neighbors, Snow Throwers?
Of course, most people can find a friendly neighbor or entrepreneurial teen who will shovel their sidewalks for them, but larger projects may render this solution impractical. In addition, people in rural areas may not have a viable neighborhood option, and if you're a landlord, you may not even be able to get to your property. Whether for safety, convenience, or logistics, it may be time to call in the pros.
Many people with some expendable income and a deep-seated hatred for shoveling snow turn to snow removal equipment electric-powered snow shovel, a single or dual-stage snow thrower, or a mounted snow thrower/plow. These devices run the gamut from shoddy bargains that will throw snow no more than a few feet and can break down after a single season or two to hassle-free, push-button snow monsters of convenience. But is this equipment really more cost-effective than hiring a snow removal service, where you won't even need to put on your snow boots? And how do you decide?
Do Your Homework to Avoid Your Yard Work
The answer is research. Forget generalized advice, i.e. one is inherently better than the other. Each situation, each person is different. Determine how many times each year you tend to need snow removal and how far the snow has to be moved, there’s a big difference between a 3 ft. wide sidewalk, a 12 ft. wide driveway, and a 300 sq. ft. deck, patio, or porch. This should help you decide which piece of snow equipment you need to buy.
Next, you should call snow removal contractors to determine how much it would cost for professional snow removal. Looking at long-term cost-effectiveness, you should get quotes not only from multiple companies, but for one-time snow removal and a year-long service package. This research may sound daunting, but the Information Age can deliver this information to you without you having to leave your computer. Consumer ratings and reviews are easy to find and decipher. Meanwhile, rather than sifting through the yellow pages, you can use an online referral service to contact several local snow removal companies.

OOC GUIDE!
Tumblr media
NAME: marina GENDER: cis female EYE COLOUR: dark brown HAIR COLOR: black RELATIONSHIP:  yes! i live with the love of my life, my beautiful gf i’ve been dating for the past 4 (5 in december!) years. she’s my best friend and i could go on for ages about her and how happy she makes me but uhhhh we actually met through homestuck rp back in 2012, can you believe that shit??  ZODIAC: capricorn. but like, a really stressed one that doesn’t have any control over anything and is kinda okay with it. i’ve also had someone in the past straight up tell me “i thought you were gonna be shitty cuz ur a capricorn but turns out ur ok”, so like, don’t be that weird person.
FAVOURITE COLOUR: black. i own a ton of black. but i also like dark red a lot.  FAVOURITE SEASON: fall FAVOURITE FLOWER: i ... like flowers that look cool to touch i guess. i dunno. i can’t be trusted with flowers. my intrusive thoughts immediately tell me to eat them whenever i see one FAVOURITE PLACE: the pumpkin patch!!! haven’t been to one in a long-ass time but i feel really good when i’m there. FAVOURITE HOLIDAY: halloween FAVOURITE VIDEO GAME: KH 358/2 days ... and animal crossing.  FAVOURITE BOOK: i really like the promise falls series by linwood barclay. LAST SHOW YOU WATCHED: iron chef showdown ( alton why are you bald ) ( BALD-TON? ) but before that, i just got done binge watching all of stranger things!
WHAT’S YOUR HONEST OPINION ABOUT YOUR MUSE?: i think it’s really easy to say that i like her a lot. i mean, you can see that pretty clearly with any muse anybody writes. i’m always looking for ways to develop her, and i really focus hard on trying to portray just how flawed she is   ---   you know, beyond the whole “distant jaded hero” thing that i don’t think is actually a real flaw.
hawke’s got a lot of personality weaknesses, way more than strengths, and i want to make it hard for her to be genuinely liked, because she’s such an asshole and not in a way that’s entirely charming. i want people to feel comfortable having their muses get irritated with her and express that with her if they feel the need to. hawke is definitely an intentional button-pusher with very little censorship and i want that to bug people. i really like writing like that, i really like working with her and trying to understand why she is the way she is; how her story and her trauma would shape her, how it effects the little things, the day-to-day things. i’m trying to do all that while also trying to let her heal and not entirely cut herself off from people; because she doesn’t want to be cut off, not deep down. but with the way things are, it’s kind of like she’s setting herself up for failure all the time while also being completely controlling over every situation as to prevent that.
so, overall, i think she’s a very hot mess, and not just because she was sort of thrust into a very harsh world; she’s a victim of bad circumstances, yeah, but that doesn’t mean she has to be the way that she currently is. she let herself fall to those tragedies repeatedly and still lets the past heavily effect her, which shows that she’s not nearly as strong as people think her to be, if at all. i think she’s got the potential to be a really good person, because she’s got a good heart, but she needs to scrub off her baggage and learn to open up more.
WOULD YOU DATE YOUR MUSE?: probably not. i mean, hawke is a beautiful woman and a total catch in the sheets, but like i said, her personality is just way too much and would be too exhausting / overwhelming for me. she would make me constantly nervous. i’m also not a patient person, and if people don’t treat me right from the beginning, i don’t waste my time. it takes a lot of working with hawke before she shows that sweeter, more doting side, and i just wouldn’t have the temperament to get that far.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE KINDS OF THREADS?: anything that’s plotted out, and anything that isn’t your typical run-of-the-mill starter scenario. i like drama, i like angst. i like anything that will give me a chance to bring out the anger in hawke, or at least get to show her humanity and how she reacts to a disadvantage, or a personal failure, or anyone calling her out, because she’s very dry-humored and mellow most of the time ... so anything that can actually get under her skin is well worth it and makes me excited to write about!
oh, and i’m also a huge sucker for sexy shit too.
ARE YOU A SELECTIVE ROLEPLAYER?: yeah. i care about your writing first and foremost, but i also get picky with oc’s (inquisitors and wardens included) who have no info pages on their muses, or like ... muses who are kind of a carbon copy of one another, you know, the ones where you just feel like you’re following the same character over and over again.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MUSE (IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE)?: HMMM ... i really liked this one oc i had who was a lazy, unkempt genius and musical prodigy. he had the mutant power of being able to stop time, which he used mostly for taking naps before he had to go to his part-time job. he was in his late 20s, but because he stopped time so much, it added up and he was actually a few years older. he was also pretty depressed and didn’t really have a future, nor did he really want one. i never actually got to write him, though  ---  i’d only set up the blog with very little info on him before the drama kicked off and i was turned off from him for a long time.
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO JOIN THE FANDOM?:  my gf, as always. she’s gotten me into the past 3 fandoms i’ve been in because we always do things together, or if she’s into something that i’m not, then i try to brush up on it so we can share that together. she got me into dragon age and i started with inquisition. she then said DA2 was her favorite because she loves anders, and i played it, starting off as a male hawke the first few times   ---   when it came time to make a blog, i actually couldn’t decide if i wanted to rp as garrett or marian hawke. i knew in my heart that i loved the idea of marian a lot more, and i would be way more into writing her and developing her, but i also knew that ... you know ... sexism, and that garrett would be a lot more of a hit with the community and the well would probably never run dry. i stuck with my gut and picked up marian, and y’know, it hasn’t been the best, and there’s still a lot of characters or situations i’ve completely missed out on or haven’t gotten to write out yet because things are slower with female muses. people are a lot less interested in them.
but i also kind of don’t regret it ... cuz i love her a lot and she’s really helped me broaden my horizons with what tropes are usually associated with women, how to defy / go beyond those, and overall how to deal with writing a retired hero not-so-typically. so! worth it.
DO YOU SEE YOURSELF STAYING WITH THE FANDOM FOR A LONG TIME?: i wanna say yes, because i love writing hawke and i love meeting new people and i love writing hawke meeting new people, but, y’know. hard to say for now. been here over a year already, so... possibly!
TAGGING: anyone who wants to. :*

Catching my breath after Trail 1
I just ran my first trail race- it was 6.3km, a baby run by many standards, but A BIG BLOODY THING by mine. I have my sights set on bigger things, and these are some things I am learning along the way...
1. LET IT GO.
I am an over-thinker. Not just the slightly neurotic, likes-a-routine kind of over-thinker. I plan what lane I’m going to need to be in on the highway about 7 kilometres in advance. This over-thinking is one of the reasons why I get anxious, and also why people do that eye-widening “yikes” face around me sometimes- I tend to sweat the small stuff. I’m working on it. Anyway, one of the greatest lessons I’m learning from running, is to LET THINGS GO. As my first trail race approached, I started over-thinking about how to prepare for it. I planned my week’s runs accordingly, deciding to take a full rest day two days before, but to do a gentle Park Run on the morning before the race. I told myself I would jog and walk the 5km, saving my strength and my legs for the following day.
The morning of the Park Run, I lazily asked Callum to drop me off at the start line, rather than walk there myself. As we approached, we noticed that the usually clear Saturday morning roads were jam-packed with cars, and some were entirely closed off. I started to panic, realising that I wouldn’t get to the start line for 8am. I leapt out of the car, deciding wildly to run there, dodging in and out of the traffic and pelting down the road to the trail route, which was about a kilometre and a half away. About 3 minutes in, my legs were protesting- I wasn’t used to road running, and the impact was already being felt in my calves. I soon became tired, and felt as if I was going nowhere. I looked at my watch, realised I wouldn’t make it, and actually started to cry.
People passing me in their cars would have seen a very sad, crazed person, muttering expletives and desperately trying to puff past other, serene-looking Saturday morning joggers in a mad attempt to make it to a Park Run. I arrived as the back of the pack was just moving off from the start line, with burning calves and a face like a beetroot.
Why was I behaving like a lunatic?
Because shit was NOT WORKING OUT. I had buggered up my plan. I had to now ‘go with the flow’- something I really, really struggle to do. I was over-tired, having run too fast, and my legs would be sore tomorrow- not at all what I had intended. I had to jog and walk haphazardly, because I was in amongst the walkers and pram-pushers. I had to watch the runners ahead of me looping back, running at the speed I was now used to achieving, and finishing in the times I was used to. I had to learn to stop being a baby- to enjoy going slowly, and to actually stop and walk properly. I had to remind myself that NO ONE CARED about what I was doing, except me. Absolutely no one gave a shit whether I beat my time this week, except me. No one was judging me because I had over-done it and had to walk- except me.
When I finally got this into my  head, I felt very silly. And I let it go.
2. Be safe, don’t be stupid...
I’m very lucky that I live near a great running route, where there are always other people either running or walking their dogs- many of them are now so familiar to me that we stop and have a chat. I am aware, though, that I am potentially vulnerable, and when I started running regularly, Callum pointed out that I should vary my route. It’s common sense- and it would be the same if I was running anywhere else, in South Africa or in England for that matter- if you run in the same place, at the same time, in a regular pattern, you could be noticed for the wrong reasons. Unless I’m running in an organised event, Simbira is always with me, and it does make me feel better to know that anyone who DOES notice me, notices my dog, who happens to look like a wolf and is never far from my side.
I also  just recently read about an app that allows your partner or friend to see where you are on your route, and enables you to press a quick panic button to contact them if something does happen while you’re running. Over-thinking again, perhaps... but it keeps Callum happier, anyway.
I have mentioned before that I like to listen to Harry Potter while I run. This is still the case (I’m now on The Order of the Phoenix, Ron just made Gryffindor goalkeeper) but I never run in an organised event with earphones in, and when I run alone, I either keep one ear open or keep the volume low. When there are 700 or more people running around you, and especially if it’s a trail run, you need to be able to hear what’s going on. I am accident-prone as it is, and spend enough of my time making sure I don’t fall over my own feet, without having to worry about other runners as well. During Sunday’s race, a friend was knocked to the ground because the man running in front of her had headphones on. He didn’t hear her cry out “passing on your right” and ploughed into her as she tried to run around him. It happened right in front of the finish line, and the highly irritating MC was kind enough to announce it on the microphone. I had to leap into the bushes on a number of occasions as faster runners came past on the single-track sections, and I would have either injured myself badly, or caused a pile-up, or just really pissed someone off, if I hadn’t heard them yell out that they were coming.
3. You are not alone...
People are great. I knew that already, but it’s pretty cool to be reminded of it. Whether it’s boring you all by writing a blog, or posting pictures on Instagram, I made a decision early on that if I was going to do this, people were bloody well going to hear about it (sorry). My first trail race was made all the more wonderful because I had Callum and Kirsty at the finish line bearing gummy bears and huge, proud smiles. It was also made wonderful by the fact that other friends came to run it as well. My friend Lesley and I agreed that we wouldn’t try to run ‘together’ as trying to chat at the same time is just impossible (seriously, WHO is able to do that??) but it was incredibly helpful to be able to see her up ahead of me throughout the race. Going for a happy, yummy breakfast all together afterwards was also GREAT.
I have had some bizarre encounters with strangers since I started running, too. Not with scary would-be attackers, as suggested earlier, but harmless weirdos. There is one man at the Constantia Park Run who just wants to chat to EVERYONE. He says hi to every single person he passes during the run, which is a bit unnerving when you aren’t expecting it, and then afterwards he approaches anyone he can to have an in-depth discussion about the weather, his shoes, your favourite colour... whatever, really. It’s strangely comforting, especially when you’re out there on your own- and if I don’t feel like talking to him, I put Harry back on.
4. Do a LITTLE bit of preparation...
There are some things that are worth over-thinking, as it turns out. I was particularly worried about my sleep the night before the trail race, and what time I would wake up- there is definitely some truth in needing to get some kind of routine sorted. I googled some yoga stretches to do beforehand (a few sun salutations are the BEST, they wake up every muscle you need) and did them rather self-consciously in the dark backyard at 5:15am, much to Simbira’s bemusement. I also read lots of articles that warned against eating or drinking anything for the first time on the day of a race- so I stuck to what I usually have. Terrified that my churning stomach would let me down, I took an unnecessary immodium before I left the house, packed eye drops and antihistamines in my bag and, at the last minute, grabbed a packet of painkillers. Just before the race, feeling very anxious about the twinges in my calves and the dull ache behind my eyes from lack of sleep, I tried to subtly pop a couple of the painkillers, thinking that if anyone saw me they’d know what a hopeless novice I was... Kirsty saw me, grinned and informed me that her boyfriend, a seasoned runner, had popped three painkillers AND an immodium that morning.
During the race itself, the one thing I really, really wished I had, was water. I have never needed it whilst running, as I am still only doing short distances and there has always been water available at the end, but it was bloody hot in Elgin and my mouth felt like it was lined with sandpaper for the entire 48 minutes (and for the rest of the day, actually). I tried sucking on a couple of gummy bears, which turned out to be a huge mistake as they stuck in my throat and I had to keep swallowing manically for about 2 kilometres. My next bit of kit will definitely involve something I can carry water in on the go (I’m playing it cool but I’m super excited about this).

The Swiss luxury watchmaking brand enhances its growing collection of acclaimed Connected watches with three new references that introduce new colours and styles without compromising on high-tech functionality, the TAG Heuer Connected Summer Edition. Following the launch in March of the third-generation TAG Heuer Connected and the recent Connected Golf Edition in June, these fresh new models build on the success of the elegant smartwatch line with new looks and materials: two steel cases with oceanic blue ceramic bezels and one ultra-lightweight sandy titanium case.
youtube
The TAG Heuer Connected watch (review here) is a unique combination of the refinement and elegance of a chronograph-inspired timepiece crafted in the purest watchmaking tradition, with a state-of-the-art, custom-designed digital experience geared towards sports and daily performance. It offers customers a striking and versatile wristwatch to enhance their individual lifestyle. The rich experience on the wrist is complemented by the TAG Heuer mobile companion app that allows for even greater personalisation and insights into the wearer’s activities.
The new TAG Heuer Connected watches will be available as of 1 July 2020 at a select network of retailers and TAG Heuer boutiques, as well as at http://www.tagheuer.com for Australia, Japan, Switzerland, the UK and the US.
Customisation that makes a splash
The three new 45 mm models immediately stand out thanks to their unique aesthetic. They include two stainless-steel options with a deep blue ceramic bezel and either a steel bracelet or a sporty blue rubber strap, and a third option of lightweight sand-blasted titanium on a durable black rubber strap.
In their original look or paired with one of the vivid and quickly interchangeable straps available in new neon yellow and lime green, as well as existing bright orange, bold red or contemporary khaki, the new Connected models are true statement watches. The line showcases the wide range of styles and uses this timepiece offers: from an elegant steel look which could be mistaken for a mechanical watch, perfect for business and formal settings, to a more sporty variation on a rubber strap, which will seamlessly follow the wearer from the office to the beach or golf course, and the most performance-orientated model, in full titanium, for the most demanding athletes – there is a Connected for everyone and every occasion.

New sun-filled dials for TAG Heuer Connected
The smartwatch can be further customised thanks to a variety of original watch faces created in-house to echo the TAG Heuer brand aesthetic and spirit. Along with these three new pieces, TAG Heuer is introducing matching luminous dial designs that will be available for Connected watches of all generations, just in time for summer. These elegant digital watch faces include bright colour variations of the six designs currently available in the core collection, for an eye-catching, sun-filled update of customer favourites, and an entirely new watch face named Helios.
With its classic tri-compax layout inspired by the iconic design codes of TAG Heuer mechanical chronographs, this watch face underscores the fact that the Connected is first and foremost a classically elegant luxury timepiece. Dubbed Helios, as the god and personification of the sun in ancient Greek mythology, the dial is radiant and assertive. It is offered in four variations of seasonal hues: deep blue, peppermint green, cherry red and dark summer night.
In the three chronograph sub-dials, you can select the classic stopwatch functions or go digital with a choice of three new digital complications celebrating the sun: a spatial representation of sunrise and sunset times in the 9-o’clock counter, and a 10-hour weather forecast or second time-zone in the 3-o’clock counter. At 6 o’clock, you find the date window and a subtle indicator of the watch’s power reserve.
These new watch faces with fresh, energetic bursts of colour and creative complications were developed entirely in-house and are the perfect summer companions. With the Helios watch face, TAG Heuer once again reinterprets its rich watchmaking heritage in a digital age.

Enjoying the TAG Heuer experience in action-packed days
Powered with Wear OS by Google, the TAG Heuer Connected watch supports wearers throughout every activity of their day with invaluable services such as Google Assistant and Google Translate using the microphone located on the left side of the case, e-mail and message notifications, Google Pay in shops and countries where this service is enabled, as well as music controls, a agenda, weather, maps and more with Google Play and its wide selection of apps.
Designed with high-intensity activities in mind, the TAG Heuer Connected offers sapphire glass screen protection, rubberised straps for optimal grip, breathability and comfort, a 5 ATM water resistance rating, suitable for low-velocity and shallow-water activities, and a 430 mAh all-day battery optimised to include a one-hour sports session using GPS, audio streaming and heart-rate monitoring. For longer activities, the battery can support up to six hours of constant sports tracking using GPS, heart-rate monitoring and music, and can be fully recharged in just 1.5 hours at temperatures between 15 °C and 45 °C.
The physical features of the case are fully and instinctively integrated to enhance the sporting experience and allow for even more precise commands: the 2- and 4-o’clock pushers provide app-opening shortcuts, along with start, pause, resume and reset functions, and the rubber-coated crown offers a second option for scrolling through the information on display, ideal for in-action usability.
Activities are recorded with high precision and accuracy thanks to top-of-the-line sensors, including a new non-medical-grade heart-rate sensor, made of high-tech resin and naturally integrated into the case back. This also optimises tracking of calories burned, while the built-in GPS measures the user’s position during workouts and can calculate different performance metrics, and also includes a compass for direction, as well as an accelerometer and gyroscope.

Ahead of the curve, always on time
The TAG Heuer Connected, the most elegant smartwatch on the market, once again strikes the perfect balance between advanced digital technology and renowned watchmaking skill with these three new models and an array of sunny personalisation options. For a life of action and experiences, this smartwatch is as much a reliable tool to measure performance as it is a refined accessory imbued with TAG Heuer’s unmistakable identity – ideal for the watch aficionado who wants to make the most of the summer.

Tumblr media
Pencil Skirts
First up, pencil skirts were widely worn in that decade. These skirts would suit perfectly to an hourglass figure and were also called “wiggle skirts” as women would have to wiggle in them whilst walking. Hugging the curves, these were more than often as long as knee length and were worn mostly in professional settings.  They would be fashioned in solid colors or with plaid prints.

Best Sausage Stuffer Reviews 2019: Top 5+ Recommended
Can I ask you something?
Have you ever think of making homemade sausages?
Yes. I mean those flavorful, packed links of meat that are salty and spicy.
Ahh. Sausages!
Nothing really beats their taste— whether fried or smoked or whatever cooking method you can think of!
Unfortunately…
We can’t trust those pre-made sausages found in supermarkets since they might come with unhealthy and unnatural casings. Additionally, the meat may not be at its best.
However, this does not mean that you should stop enjoying a meaty link of sausages. But, what should you do?
Make them at home, of course!
As every food enthusiasts say, nothing beats a homemade food, especially homemade sausages.
Sounds great! What do I need?
Your favorite meat, the spices of your choice, and the best sausage stuffer!
A stuffer?
What is a Sausage Stuffer?
Well, as its name implies, a sausage stuffer is an appliance designed to help stuff or pack sausage meats into the casings.
Sausage stuffers will come to your rescue and take much of the time and hard work in making your own sausage with great results that are comparable to commercially-available sausages.
So, it’s like the ones used to create the pre-made sausages at the store?
Big yes!
Then a sausage stuffer can cost me a fortune!
That may be true, yes. But you should know that modern sausage stuffers are now also built to take the normal kitchen scene, making them less bulky to fit in your kitchen space. And although they may still cost you hundreds of dollars, kitchen stuffers are much affordable and easier to use than those for commercial use.
Why You Should Make Your Own Sausages From Now On?
1. Control Over Processing
You can trust others for cleaning and grinding the meats for the sausages, however, they may have a very different way of doing so.
For instance, if you want a venison sausage, there is some other meat mixed in. However, you cannot guarantee the ratio unless you try to do it yourself. This is also true for fat content.  Some can load it down with fat and save on meat, making it such a greasier sausage.
2. The Taste
Buying sausage in the supermarket, you’re getting what other people feels as good tasting sausage. You might want a different type of meat as well as a different blend of seasonings in your sausage.
Creating your own sausages at home, you get to try out different possibilities until you create the taste that is unique and just right for you.
3. Meat Quality
Making your own sausages at home also means that you do not have to worry about any unknown or unworthy animal parts making through the grinder and to the sausages. This means that no nose, ears or any other animal parts aside from the typical meat used in sausages are fed to your family.
4. Cost
Sausages in the supermarkets usually call for a high price tag. In your kitchen, on the other hand, once you have paid for the necessary equipment, you only have the cost of the meat and whatever spices you want, making it a much affordable choice in the long term.
5. Health
Since homemade sausages will contain only what you want to put into it, you can keep the fat and salt content low, and making a healthier and leaner sausage for you and your family. Also, there won’t be any chemicals or preservative in your meat, since you will have complete control over what goes into it.
The Different Kinds of Sausage Stuffers
In order to easily figure out which sausage stuffer is the best one for your kitchen, you must first know that different types of sausage stuffers available in the market today.
1. Horn Stuffer
Being the cheapest kind of sausage stuffer, horn stuffers are more like a tool than a machine. It is basically a horn which comes with a pusher to push down meat into the sausage skin.
Horn stuffers are the simplest of its kind and are the best choice for beginners who are looking for a tool that is not overwhelming to use for the very first time. It is very practical and direct to the point.
2. Vertical Stuffers
This is probably the most popular type of stuffer. Vertical stuffers are a great choice for both experts and beginners and are available in both electric and manual models.
This stuffer can accommodate 5 – 15 pounds of meat in one go and is an ideal choice for creating large batches of sausages.
Its mechanism is somewhat similar to a horn stuffer, however, rather than pressing down in order to squeeze out the meat, you’ll have to press a button or turn a handle in order to grind and stuff the meat to the sausage skin.
3. Horizontal Stuffer
This type of stuffer works like its vertical sibling. The main difference is that the meat chamber of a horizontal stuffer is placed horizontally, thus its name. Horizontal stuffers make a better choice if vertical space is a problem.
Sausage Stuffer Buying Guide: Choosing the Best One!
Now, let’s dive into the different factors that you need to be mindful of when looking for a sausage stuffer in the market. Here are some of the features and important factors you should look for to have the best one for your kitchen.
1. Materials
Sausage stuffers are tools which come in several parts for assembling and disassembling. It is important that these parts can be thoroughly cleaned, particularly parts which come in contact with the meat in order to maintain proper hygiene. The whole sausage stuffer need to be sturdy, resistant to rust and durable,
The most common material used for sausage stuffer is stainless steel. However, you also need to check that its material is of high-grade, particularly if you intend to use it for heavy-duty purposes.
2. Capacity
Sausage stuffers can accommodate 5 - 20 pounds of meat. And in terms of choosing the best sausage stuffer based on its capacity, make sure that you’re getting something that fits your personal needs.
It is worth mentioning that a larger capacity also means that the machine will be heavier and harder to clean and store away.
3. Electric VS. Manual
Sausage stuffers can either come in an electric or manual model. Without a doubt, electric models are easier and quicker to use. But, they also require more of your budget. Manual models, on the other hand, will need your strength to create those yummy sausages and comes at a much affordable price tag.
If you would ask me, I’d say that an electric model is more suitable if you need something for commercial use. If you need something for a typical sausage BBQ party once a week, then manual models are much better.
4. Stuffing Tubes Sizes
They say size counts. And in reality, some like small and some prefer big ones. And for quality sausage stuffer, they offer you a range of sizes— from extra-large to small sausages.
Common sizes of stuffing tubes are 1”, ¾” and ½”— allowing you to create small breakfast sausages for your little ones through chunky chorizos for a BBQ afternoon.
5. Usability
When getting a sausage stuffer, try to choose one that you will enjoy using and not something that will just make you cringe every time you think of using it. In terms of overall usability, try to consider the simplicity of controls, the design of the handles and if it comes with an easy-to-understand instruction.
6. Extra Features
Some sausage stuffers come with extra features, making them more valuable for every penny you spend. Some important extra features include:
a. Air-Release Valves
These valves are designed in order to release any air that is trapped inside the sausage so that you do not have to deal with sausage casing constantly breaking.
b. Speed Option
It is always recommended to choose a sausage stuffer that has at least 2 speeds. If you have an additional pair of helping hands or as you become more experienced, you can then increase the speed in order to get the work done quickly.
Also, some casing, particularly natural casings, can be weaker than other. And if you run a stuffer at maximum speed with such casing, chances are they could rip or tear. Having the option to slow things down can really help.
The grind of meat also determines the required speed, with a coarser grind needing a more gradual pressure in order to avoid ripping or bursting the case open.
c. Grinder Function
One of the pre-requisite of homemade sausages is the use of ground meat. You can always buy ground meat in local butcher shops, however, if you wish to do the grinding yourself, then there are some sausage stuffers out there that can also be used as a meat grinder. This model comes with grinding plates and fitting plates for grinding meat.
7. Ease of Cleaning and Maintenance
One thing that you should never, ever, forget to look for is how easy it is to clean and maintain the appliance.
If you can’t clean the sausage stuffer properly, some meat can get stuck in hard-to-reach areas which can cause bacterial growth and unpleasant odor.
So, in terms of sausage stuffers, you need to choose one that has detachable parts for a seamless cleaning and maintenance.
8. Warranty
One thing that I have learned over the years is that kitchen appliances, particularly those that endure heavy use, are highly prone to malfunctioning. Therefore, I highly recommend that you get a sausage stuffer that has at least a 1-year warranty or more provided by the manufacturer.

Stuffing Sausages: An Easy Step-by-Step Guide
There is no single perfect recipe for sausages. After all, we all have different opinions on a perfect tasting sausage.
For making gorgeous links of sausages, pork is the most common meat used. However, you can also try lamb, duck, chicken and beef meat. You can get ready ground meat, or you can choose to grind your own.
For grinding meat
1Place the meat of your choice in an ice bath in order to keep it cold. Make sure that it does not warm up. Otherwise, the fat will go soft.
2Chop the cold meat into small chunks of about 1 square inch.
3Season the meat with pepper and salt, or any other spices and herbs of your choice.
4Freeze the meat mix for 30 minutes only. If you leave the meat in the freezer for longer, it will be harder to grind. The meat should be a bit softer in the middle and frozen outside.
5Grind the meat into a bowl. Choose your desired coarseness setting.
Stuffing sausage
1Soak the sausage casing in water in order to soften it up.
2Get the bowl with grind meat and mix with wet ingredients of your choice, you might add honey, soy sauce, sherry or vinegar. Mix the ingredients thoroughly.
3Run water through the sausage casing and slide it onto the stuffing tube.
4Place the meat mixture into the stuffer. Crank down the stuffer if it is manual or switch it on if it is electric. The meat should push through the stuffer tube and into the sausage casing.
5Coil the end of stuffed sausages. Hang it to dry then store in the fridge.
And the Weiner Is…
Weston Manual Vertical Sausage Stuffer!
Amazon’s Choice for “Sausage Stuffer Machine” (and I totally agree), this stuffer can provide all your stuffing needs! With the right capacity for home use, durable build, no stability problems, air pressure valve, 2-speed operation, 4 stainless steel funnels and ease of cleaning and maintenance, there really is no reason to not call it the best!
