After spending like 10 years pretty much constantly numb and dissociated… and going on 2 years now without that shit
I struggle all the time with the fucking intensity of just.. normal emotions. And I miss that numbness sometimes which makes me feel so guilty. Because I never want to go back to that place.
But goddamn it if being a human with emotions ain’t shit sometimes.

Democracy and law
South Dakota voters ousted pro-pornography Republican state Senator Michael Walsh, scuttling his reelection bid in the Republican primary Tuesday. Walsh’s loss came just over three months after he was the deciding vote to kill an age-verification bill that would have protected children from online pornography. Challenger Greg Blanc unseated Walsh, garnering 55% of the vote compared to the incumbent’s 39%.  On February 29, the South Dakota Senate Judiciary Committee voted 4-3 to “defer HB 1257 to the 41st legislative day.” At the time, the Washington Examiner explained that the move effectively stopped the bill’s chances of becoming law.
Most states that have passed age-verification have passed them by near-unanimous bipartisan margins.  South Dakota’s HB 1257 therefore was unique among such bills in that it had received significant opposition from Republicans.*** https://catholicvote.org/voters-oust-pro-porn-gop-senator-in-south-dakota-primary-election
If you don't like your state's laws, vote for someone different.

Wow!
A Minnesota jury has convicted four men and one woman for their participation in a sprawling scheme to steal more than $40 million in funds earmarked for hungry children during the pandemic. The case garnered national attention after a brazen bribe attempt in which a Hallmark gift bag stuffed with $120,000 cash was delivered to a juror’s home the night before the jury was scheduled to be in court to hear closing arguments. The juror was dismissed before deliberations, along with a second juror who had learned about the attempted bribe.*** In all, more than $250 million in federal funds were pilfered in the scheme, with just $50 million recovered so far, according to authorities.*** A woman dropped the would-be bribe off at Juror 52’s suburban Minneapolis home Sunday evening in a gift bag adorned with curly ribbons and pictures of flowers and butterflies. She rang the doorbell and passed the gift bag loaded with $20, $50 and $100 bills to a relative who answered the door, calling it a “present” for the juror.*** According to an FBI affidavit, the woman knew the juror’s first name, despite none of the jurors’ identities being made public. The woman told the family member to tell the juror there’d be more money coming if she voted to acquit in court the next day.*** https://nypost.com/2024/06/07/us-news/5-convicted-in-250m-fraud-cause-after-juror-had-120k-bribe-delivered-to-her-door-in-a-sack/

School shooter manifesto
The Tennessee Star has obtained dozens of handwritten pages authored by Audrey Elizabeth Hale, who committed the horrific Covenant School shooting on March 27, 2023. The Star reviewed nearly four dozen images of notebook pages written by Hale that were recovered from the vehicle she drove to the Covenant School which were obtained from a source familiar with the Covenant investigation. One of the pages reviewed by The Star is a journal or diary entry, written by Hale, that is dated February 20, 2023, or just 35 days before Hale committed the attack.*** Biologically a female, Hale identified as a transgender man at the time of her devastating attack on The Covenant School, which claimed the lives of three 9-year-old students and three faculty members. “So now in America, it makes one a criminal to have a gun or, be transgender, or non-binary,” wrote Hale. She added, “God I hate those s***head politicians.”*** Both Michael Patrick Leahy, who is the editor-in-chief of The Star, and Star News Digital Media, Inc., which owns and operates The Star, are plaintiffs in separate lawsuits which seek to compel both the FBI and the Metro Nashville Police Department to release the written materials left by Hale.***
+++
The Tennessee Star confirmed on Wednesday it obtained nearly four dozen pages of Hale’s writings from a source familiar with the Covenant investigation, including the March 11, 2023 entry discussing her desire to have a male anatomy. Hale’s diary or journal entry begins with the title “My Imaginary Penis” and includes a crude drawing. “My penis exists in my head. I swear to god I’m a male,” wrote Hale in the diary or journal recovered by police. She then wrote about her desire to have a penis for the purpose of heterosexual sex with a woman. While the entry is sexually explicit in nature, Hale also wrote about her experience using the name Aiden, which she began using during her transition. Hale explained that using the name on a job application for a delivery position resulted in issues with the company’s background check. She also described being raised a girl as “torture.” She claimed she feared “being called a dyke or a f*****” during high school before feeling liberated in college and eventually learning about transgenderism in her early 20s.*** About her parents, Hale added, “I hate parental views; how my mom sees me as a daughter – and she’d not bear to want to lose that daughter because a son would be the death of Audrey.” On the second page of the entry, Hale continued to disparage her parents for their alleged refusal to support her transition but also wrote about the advent of puberty blockers in 2007. “I’d kill to have those resources; 2007 was the birth of puberty blockers and a newfound discovery for treatment of non-conforming transgender children,” wrote Hale. She then acknowledged, “I was in the 6th grade, puberty already hit me.” [emphasis added] At the bottom of the second page, and into the third, Hale revealed that she fantasized about experiencing intercourse as a man by creating scenes with her stuffed animals. “I can pretend to be them [and] do the things boys do [and] experience my boy self as Tony,” which Hale explained is her “stuffed boy doll” which she wrote “is like the boy I am in another form.” In the entry, Hale proceeded to describe simulating intercourse between the “stuffed boy doll” and another stuffed animal over the course of hours.***

In other news, electric scooters can burn rubber.
There is a crosswalk at Riverfront Park in Spokane, Washington. The crosswalk is painted like a pride flag.
19-year-old Ruslan V. V. Turko and two minors were arrested for first-degree malicious mischief.  Turko appeared in court Thursday. Prosecutors requested a $15,000 bond due to the estimated cost of re-painting the mural.  https://www.krem.com/article/news/local/arrests-wednesday-at-newly-painted-pride-crosswalk-mural/293-57722e04-0df0-4484-856e-fed3d7a37c23
They had left skidmarks on the crosswalk with their Lime scooters on or about 5jun24. Lime scooters are apparently battery powered. The youths allegedly said mean things to people who protested their scooter skidding. No transcript or recording of what the protesters said to the youths.

Nobody will notice $15M. YOLO!!!
The former assistant city attorney of Atlanta, who was also a life advice podcaster, has been jailed for seven years after fraudulently obtaining approximately $15 million in COVID relief loans. Shelitha Robertson, 62, used the illegally gained funds to splash out on luxuries such as a 10 carat diamond ring, a Rolls Royce and a motorbike.  The former police officer had obtained the money under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), a federal stimulus program that was set up during the pandemic. *** Court documents show that Robertson falsely claimed she was responsible for a 427 employees. The number of 'staff' in her 'companies' allowed her to obtain enormous PPP loans, which were designed to keep legitimate businesses afloat through the pandemic.***

Good luck with that. Let me know how that works out for you.
Senate Democrats appear split on whether to subpoena Chief Justice John Roberts in the fight for judicial ethics reform. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin, D-Ill., are pushing for a Senate vote on the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act, after Justice Samuel Alito was reported flying the revolutionary war flag, "An Appeal to Heaven," outside his beach house. Dems also have raised concerns about lavish gifts and vacations received by Alito and Justice Clarence Thomas. However, it is unclear whether they could even get majority support on the committee. "I'm not sure," Sen. Peter Welch, D-Vt., told The Hill after being asked whether all 11 Democrats on the panel would support a subpoena effort. "It's the reality of an 11-10 [majority]. … It just takes one."***
IRL, this is about pacifying the far left wing of the Dem party. Most Dems don't want to open this can of worms. Everyone knows that the most left wing justices take the same trips and gifts as J.J. Thomas and Alito.
Moreover, most Dems don't want to pack the Court. The far left wing is eager to do it.

Good on Archbishop Burke
Crime’s gotten so bad in Hartford, Conn., that residents have formed armed patrols to keep one area safe — and the town’s woke officialdom is pooh-poohing the people trying to defend themselves.  A “Self-Defense Brigade,” made up of about 40 legally armed citizens and formed at the request of local religious leader Archbishop Dexter Burke, protects the streets of Hartford’s predominantly black North End.  After February saw two men murdered near his church, Burke finally had enough.  And rightly so: Hartford, a town of about 121,000, saw 36 murders in 2023 and 40 in 2022 — that last being a near two-decade high.  In per capita terms, 36 murders there is like New York notching 2,456 homicides. ***

Nice whistle you blew there. Now stop resisting!
Eithan Haim, 34, is at the beginning of his career as a surgeon. He and his wife are expecting their first child in the fall. And now he is facing a four-count federal felony indictment for blowing the whistle on Texas Children’s Hospital, where he worked while a resident.  At TCH, he discovered the hospital was secretly continuing gender transition treatments on minors—including hormonal intervention on patients as young as 11 years old—after publicly declaring, in March of 2022, it would no longer provide such services. The hospital unwillingly backed away from the treatments under pressure from the Texas governor and attorney general. But Haim found not only were the treatments continuing—the program appeared to be expanding. He recorded several online presentations by medical staff encouraging the transition of children—one social worker described how she deliberately did not make note of such treatment in the medical charts of patients to avoid leaving a paper trail. Haim told me, “They were talking publicly about how they were concealing what they were doing. You can’t take care of your patient without trust. For me as a doctor, to not do something about this was unconscionable.”*** He contacted conservative journalist Christopher Rufo, who published an exposé without naming Haim. Before giving Rufo evidence that puberty blockers were still being surgically implanted in young patients, Haim made sure the patient’s names and other identifying information were redacted. This was both to protect patient privacy, and himself from violating the law known as HIPAA, which protects individual patient identities while also allowing various uses of medical information. The story Haim gave to Rufo was published May 16, 2023. The next day, the Texas legislature voted to ban the medical gender transition of minors. Haim says there was no immediate aftermath: “Everything went quiet. I was anonymous and went on with my life.” Then June 23 of last year, the day Haim was to graduate from his residency, two federal agents from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services showed up at his house to have a little chat. Haim’s wife, an assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas, a different division of the U.S. Attorney’s office than the one that has indicted her husband, advised him not to talk.  As Haim later wrote in City Journal, “Before leaving, they handed me a letter revealing that I was a ‘potential target’ of an investigation involving alleged violation of federal criminal law related to medical records.” Haim then went public about the threat facing him in an interview with Rufo. (The U.S Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas did not respond to a request for comment.) Haim was indicted last week, but, as of this writing, he and his attorneys do not yet know the precise nature of the charges. One of his lawyers, Mark Lytle, told me it’s very unusual to bring felony charges for an alleged HIPAA violation unless there is a significant underlying crime, such as a hospital clerk selling a celebrity’s medical records. He said the indictment of Haim seems politically motivated. *** Haim is raising money for his legal fees through this GiveSendGo account.***

The potential penalties in 42 U.S.C. §1320d–6 are insane, up to 10 years if the HIPAA crime was committed "with intent to sell, transfer, or use individually identifiable health information for commercial advantage, personal gain, or malicious harm." The basic crime is
knowingly and in violation of [HIPAA]- (1) uses or causes to be used a unique health identifier; (2) obtains individually identifiable health information relating to an individual; or (3) discloses individually identifiable health information to another person
Good luck proving that he knowingly used or disclosed an identifier or identifiable info.
National Review notes that
Based on the publicly available information, there is no reason to believe Haim violated HIPAA. Both Haim and Rufo insist that sensitive personal information was redacted in the documents they exchanged; it was redacted in what Rufo published. The wrongdoers here are not the ones the administration has identified.

Ocean's 15 or whatever - wild, weird case
Prosecutors on Friday dropped all charges against a former Monarch Casino Resort and Spa employee who took $500,000 in cash from the casino, conceding that the woman was scammed by likely international thieves. During a court hearing Friday, prosecutors with the First Judicial District Attorney’s office said an extensive investigation into the theft revealed the casino employee fell victim to a likely international conspiracy to scam casino employees into removing money from the casino and delivering that money to thieves, and that similar schemes were perpetrated across the U.S. in the summer of 2023. Prosecutors said they could not ethically proceed with the case against former casino employee Sabrina Eddy, who did not profit from the theft. The half-million-dollar heist last year was the biggest casino theft in Colorado since gambling was legalized in 1991*** Eddy was working as a cage cashier at the casino on March 12, 2023, and was responsible for casino money. Shortly before 1 a.m., Eddy received a call on the casino’s phone from a man who claimed to be the casino’s head of operations, as well as texts from a man she believed to be her immediate supervisor. The caller and texter told Eddy that the casino was having difficult with the UPS delivery of some important equipment. They explained that Eddy needed to bring $300,000 to a lawyer who would meet her at St. Anthony’s Hospital in order to protect the casino from being “in breach of contract,” according to an affidavit filed against Eddy. Eddy then pulled bricks of cash from the casino’s cage and put them into boxes, which she packed with rags and then taped shut. She drove to the hospital’s emergency room and handed the cash to a man she believed to be the attorney. After returning to the casino, Eddy received another text at 3 a.m. that explained the lawyer needed another $200,000, according to the affidavit. Eddy then loaded up more bricks of cash, drove them to the hospital and gave them to the same man, handing it over at about 4:30 a.m. She was told to wait at the hospital after handing over the cash. But as she waited, Eddy attempted to call back the men she believed to be her bosses. When they did not answer, she called the casino, admitted she’d taken the money and said she was worried she might be arrested. Eddy initially claimed she was scammed but later changed her story and claimed that associates of her dead ex-husband “forced her to engage in the theft after levying threats against her family members,” the affidavit reads. In March, the man who received the cash from Eddy that night, Juan Ivan Gutierrez Zambrano, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal mischief — one a low-level felony and the other a misdemeanor charge. Prosecutors alleged Zambrano, a citizen of Mexico, was paid to receive the boxes of stolen cash.***

Thornton, Colorado police pursued a Camaro with no plates on 30apr24. The driver was apparently Joby Vigil. A passenger was Jasmine Castro. Vigil fled into Lakewood, which is rather a trip.

Nice bridge, too bad you don't have law enforcement
LA's "6th Street bridge [was] an instant L.A. icon" when it opened in 2022 according to the Times. It was shut down for three nights almost as soon as it opened because of constant crime and disorder.
Now the bridge is dark. Thieves stole seven miles of copper wire from the bridge. https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/thieves-steal-miles-worth-of-copper-wire-leaving-sixth-street-bridge-in-the-dark/3434283/
***Billy Avellan, said he's been documenting the vandalism and that the issue has been going on for months. "I first reported it to 311 six months ago," said Avellan. "It's sad. I walk this bridge every day, I can’t take a regular walk that you tax me for every time – because it's too dark. It's not safe.“ Earlier this year Los Angeles city leaders called for action against the ongoing copper theft in the city, stating that it was costing taxpayers millions of dollars to replace. At a press conference back in January, city leaders called for a $400,000 plan to create a "copper wire theft task force" to help curb the crime.***

Old School X is a project interviewing X-Files fanfic authors who were posting fic during the original run of the show. New interviews are posted every Tuesday.
Interview with Audrey Roget
Audrey Roget has 10 fics at Gossamer, with some different ones at AO3, fanfiction.net, and her website. You might know her from her very good fics or as part of Musea, a collective that all wrote fic and posted X-Files fic recs. I’ve recced some of my favorites of her stories here before, including Three Times Dana Scully Didn’t Go to San Diego for Christmas and The Shirt. Big thanks to Audrey for doing this interview.
Does it surprise you that people are still interested in reading your X-Files fanfics and others that were posted during the original run of the show (1993-2002)? A little, yes. Not so much by folks who were around in those days. I sometimes go hunting for beloved stories from the early years, both those I read and loved, and those I never got around to. I am always delighted to hear that later generations of fans have stumbled across my stuff, especially since I haven’t posted anything new in a number of years. It’s fantastic that both years-long fans and new ones are out there continuing to rec fic from all eras, and to maintain archives for fans yet-to-be born. What do you think of when you think about your X-Files fandom experience? What did you take away from it? What did you take away from your experience with X-Files fic or with the fandom in general? It may sound corny, but the main thing I think of, and the thing that has ultimately been most valuable and lasting, has been the friendships. The feeling of having found a tribe – not just of TXF fans, but of other people who could be as enthusiastically engaged as I was (if not more so) with fictional stories and characters – was mind-blowing. Since I was a kid, I had often mulled over the books/movies/TV I loved and speculated internally about what happened off the page or off-screen, or created new stories for characters in my head. But, except for an elementary school phase where I and my two BFFs regularly played Charlie’s Angels, I hadn’t engaged in that kind of gleeful immersion in a fictional world with others until TXF fandom. My involvement in fandom followed pretty quickly from getting hooked on the show, so for me, it’s all one big ball of experiences. Even as my interest in/involvement in fandom has waxed and waned over the years, I’ve been lucky to remain friends with wonderful people who I originally connected with as fellow fans.
Social media didn't really exist during the show's original run. How were you most involved with the X-Files online (atxc, message board, email mailing list, etc.)? What got you involved with X-Files fanfic?
My initial entrée to the fandom was through fanfiction. I didn’t get interested in the show until mid-season 5. Around the same time, I read an article in a zine called Might (co-founded by Dave Eggers) about this thing called fanfiction that people would write and publish online. At first I thought it was satire or a joke – the fic cited involved Wilma Flintstone and a polished sabre tooth, as I recall – but then realized this was an actual thing. So I figured that a show then at the peak of pop culture must have fanfiction, and I went looking. Early on, I scrolled atxc on a daily basis and downloaded stories. But I didn’t engage in discussions about the show on Usenet, since I only knew how to access it with my Earthlink email client, and I didn’t want to post using my real name.
Later, I set up a pseud address with Yahoo and subscribed to a couple of email fanfic/discussion lists, and stayed subscribed to those for years. There was also a period in there somewhere – of maybe only a year or so, when I think about it – when I’d often nerd out into the wee hours with other fans via IM chat groups. That was around the time the small writers’ collective Musea was founded, and we were active for several years after the show’s initial run. In the early aughts, I followed many authors to LiveJournal and eventually set up my own account and stayed involved in fandom that way, until it mostly dispersed as well. What was it that got you hooked on the X-Files as a show? In a word: Chemistry. I had casually watched a couple of episodes during the first four seasons, but I’m not a huge sci-fi/horror fan at heart, and the story lines didn’t immediately grab me. But I happened to tune into The Red and the Black in 1998, and BOOM. For the first time, the intense layers of emotion and attraction between Mulder and Scully really struck me – and then of course, upon further viewing, I realized it was unmissable, an essential element in the fabric of the show. As a wise woman once said, a switch had been flicked. Mulder and Scully’s magnetism was like nothing I’d ever seen, and though I eventually came to appreciate the storytelling, humor, production values, and other components that made the series so successful, watching those characters interact has always been what kept me coming back. Were you involved with any fandoms after the X-Files? If so, what was it like compared to X-Files? I was part of a list-serv discussion group for The West Wing for a while, which was a fun melding of character and plot analysis with political discussion. Later, I got into the House, MD fandom, again mostly as a fanfic reader/writer. I was finding that other fandoms, unlike TXF, were more dispersed, the networks of people structured more loosely, if at all. There were fanfic and discussion communities on LiveJournal, and fanfiction.net was the other main hub for posting and reading, but if there was anything centralized like Gossamer, Ephemeral, or the Haven, I never found it. Within all those fan communities, as in TXF, there were partisans for various characters and pairings, and flame wars erupted over plot developments that outraged this faction or that. One main difference was that those other shows had larger, ensemble casts and more varied subplots. So on one hand, there was more opportunity to explore back stories and multiple perspectives. In House MD in particular, there were several entrenched rival shipper camps, which were about equally grounded in canon, rather than TXF’s central ship. I was less into TWW fic, but my impression was that readers were less militant about their pairing preferences than TXF or House fans. Who are some of your favorite fictional characters? Why?
I was deeply fascinated by Greg House for several years. (And the love-hate chemistry between him and Lisa Cuddy was a strong draw for me.) House MD came early in a wave of TV shows centered on anti-heroes, and Hugh Laurie brought amazing complexity and thoughtfulness to the character.
Philip and Elizabeth Jennings (The Americans) are a lethal pair of antiheroes. The inherent moral conflict of a sympathetic narrative from their POVs, and the global political conflict they embody was TV catnip for me. The internal struggles at the hearts of those characters were so exquisitely written and performed, they completely fascinate me.
The West Wing felt so much like a show created specifically for me. I’m especially fond of story arcs and scenes that centered on CJ Cregg, Charlie Young, and Josh Lyman. Though I loved Martin Sheen’s human portrayal of Jed Bartlet, the fact that he was the President always made him a little untouchable in my mind. But CJ, Charlie, and Josh were basically hard-working functionaries who were ambitious and idealistic and funny and flawed, and they spoke to me. What is your relationship like now to X-Files fandom? Do you ever still watch The X-Files or think about Mulder and Scully? Do you ever still read X-Files fic? Fic in another fandom?
I do continue to think about Mulder and Scully and watch episodes somewhat often. I’ll sometimes run a favorite episode as background when I want something comforting on. I read TXF fic pretty regularly, which can inspire me to go back and watch a particular episode or story arc I haven’t thought about in years. Just recently, I started listening to The X-Files Diaries podcast (@XFDPodcast, @admiralty-xfd), and that’s a fun dive into the characters, and how other fans react to and interpret episodes.
Every once in a while, a TV show or movie – and more particularly, the characters – will grab my attention and make me curious about how fanfic writers have interpreted the original material. Random example, I saw Singin’ in the Rain for the first time in a theatre a couple of years ago, and the chemistry of the three leads sent me to AO3 as soon as I got home. I also loved the first season of Mercy Street and found some well-done stories in that fandom. I usually peruse the Yuletide gifts every year and have been amazed by the sheer variety, creativity and cheekiness of the output. There are a bunch of other shows I’ve followed faithfully, and sought out fanfic – Broadchurch, The Killing, Agents of SHIELD, Elementary, The Good Wife. Although I’ve found some well-written stuff in those fandoms, I’ve rarely gotten the same charge from them as reading TXF fic. Do you have any favorite X-Files fanfic stories or authors?
syntax6 (@syntax6) – Universal Invariants/Laws of Motion. I’d also shout out to syn’s Hunter fics, too – well worth reading even for those who have never seen or particularly loved the show itself.
JET – I re-read Small Lives Awake every year around Thanksgiving time. Other annual holiday re-reads: Revely’s The Dreaming Sea and Jordan’s Through the Fire (both set at Halloween).
Amal Nahurriyeh’s Casey universe – the rare post-col fic that felt hopeful, made extra intriguing by a kick-ass original character. [Lilydale note: the series starts with Machines of Freedom and has lots of additional fics and snippets.]
Prufrock’s Love – Finding Rokovoko was genuinely terrifying and tender.
melforbes (@melforbes) – Seaglass Blue is a recent favorite, lyrical and bittersweet.
These are just a few (apologies to those that didn’t come to mind immediately). Fortunately for readers, there’s an astonishing number of authors who have written in TXF fandom whom you can depend on for a good yarn, insightful character study, and/or ingenious “fixes” where 1013 went awry.
What is your favorite of your own fics, X-Files and/or otherwise?
Probably the two set in my own (former) backyard of Southern California: Enivrez-vous and Ravenous. I’d first read the Baudelaire poem that was the source of the former’s title back in university days, so I was tickled to be able to use a few lines as an epigraph. Do you think you'll ever write another X-Files story? Or dust off and post an oldie that for whatever reason never made it online? It’s not out of the realm possibility. I’d meant for “Three Times Dana Scully Didn’t Go to San Diego for Christmas” to be followed up with “And One Time She Did.” In fact, the idea for that never-finished story was what inspired “Three Times” in the first place. I have a couple of scenes sketched out and – unusually for me – even know exactly how to end it. Every year, November rolls around, and I think I should finish and post it…maybe in 2021?
Where do you get ideas for stories? Sometimes it’s from my environment. “Enivrez-vous” and “Ravenous” describe places that I’m fond of, that made me want to place Mulder and Scully there. “What Not to Wear” has that element too – I set it in Memphis as a tribute to a great trip there with a sister Musean. But WNTW was also inspired by a kink challenge in a years-ago LiveJournal thread, so sometimes ideas come from fandom discussions or even other fanfics. In the House MD fandom, a fic by another writer made me want to continue the story, and the author kindly allowed an authorized sequel. What's the story behind your pen name? I wanted my pseudonym to sound like it could be a real person’s name – or at least, maybe like a romance writer’s pen name – rather than an online handle. I also wanted to use a slightly obscure fictional character, to amuse anyone in the know. I had long had a bit of an obsession with Whit Stillman’s 1990s film trilogy, which started with Metropolitan; the 3rd installment, Last Days of Disco, came out the same year I started down the TXF rabbit hole: 1998. The central heroine of Metropolitan – who is mentioned in or makes a cameo in the other two – is Audrey Rouget, a lover of Austen and, eventually, a book editor. I altered the spelling of the last name as a nod to every writer’s companion, Roget’s Thesaurus. Do your friends and family know about your fic and, if so, what have been their reactions? I have a few close friends – from outside TXF fandom – who know that I’ve written fanfic. I don’t know if they know my pseud; if they do, or if they’ve ready any of the fic, they haven’t said so to me. They are fannish sorts themselves, but not really TXF fans. A smattering of other friends and family members know or could intuit that I’ve been a fangrl on some level for years. My boss, whom I’ve known for about 3 years, recently mentioned off-handedly that she was really obsessed with TXF “back in the day,” and I am DYING to know if she got involved in fandom, but don’t think I’ll ever work up the courage to ask.
Is there a place online (tumblr, twitter, AO3, etc.) where people can find you and/or your stories now? Most of the X-Files stuff continues to be generously and steadfastly archived by Forte at The Basement Office. The House MD stories and some TXF things are at fanfiction.net; same for AO3. If ever post anything new, it will probably go to TBO and AO3. I really ought to get it all together in one place, one of these days…

Alphabetti Spaghetti (1/3)
And we will fall in love with shooting stars. - A
Have you ever seen an Aardvark? I don’t think so.
Were you ever abandoned in a public place as a child? Where? Abandoned is a pretty harsh word lol. My parents did like playing pranks on me and hide whenever I’d get distracted at the grocery or department store. They’d let me get nervous or even tear up for a bit until showing up again.
What accent do you have? I guess just your standard Filipino English accent that’s common among people who were able to take up English studies. I don’t really know how to describe it.
Is there someone in your family addicted to something? What is it? I don’t think so.
Have you ever been under general anaesthetic? What were you having done? I think so? When I had a tooth extraction done on me two years ago I was told I was going to be injected with anaesthesia, but I didn’t feel as if anything changed throughout the procedure. Either my dentist told me fake news lol or he’s just really good at his job for me to not notice anything.
How do you show the ones you love affection? It depends on the person. Around my friends, I know I’ve had taken a liking to them once I start getting especially talkative with them. For people I have even deeper relationships with, I like...buying them gifts, I guess. Getting them things that remind me of them. I would also bend over backwards to do nice deeds for them, like driving them to their destination even if I find it far.
Are you more passive or aggressive? I tend to be very passive aggressive in the way I deal with things.
Do you like the band Aha!? Not in particular.
Do you know anyone called Aidan? What are they like? Nope.
Ever heard of the band Ajax? No but I know that’s a brand of like cleaner or something. That’s close enough to ‘band’ haha.
Do you know anyone called Akash? I don’t either.
Do the sound of fire alarms scare you? They would obviously be scary if it rang for a real reason. Who wouldn’t freak out over a fire?
Do you live in America? If so, which state? If visited, where'd you go? No, and I’ve never visited either. I’d love to take a trip to cities like New York, New Orleans, Portland, and Chicago one of these days.
Have you ever had an ant infestation in your house? Only when there’s food left out accidentally.
Aora - did I spell that correctly? I don’t even know what you’re referring to, so I can’t tell you if you’ve spelled whatever it is right.
Do you have a preference in Apple? What type do you prefer? I don’t quite get this question - like a preference within Apple products? I mean, a phone and a laptop are essentials for me, and generally I do prefer having an iPhone and Macbook over other brands; but I can live without an iPad, an Apple Watch, iMac, Apple Pen, etc...if this is what you mean.
Are you an Aquarian? Is anyone in your family/your partner/best friend? ...You mean Aquarius? No. I don’t believe in astrology nor pay attention to zodiac signs either, so I wouldn’t be able to name Aquariuses that I know right off the bat.
Have you ever worn any type of armor? Which type? I don’t think I’ve ever had to, no.
Do you use the word ass a lot? Kinda, but it’s usually part of a longer word, i.e. asshole, asshat, deadass, etc.
Have you or your family had an attorney? What for? Not to my knowledge.
Is your car/family’s car an automatic gear or manual? Automatic.
Are you interested in aviation, piloting and aircrafts? Just the slightest bit. I would love to learn how to fly a plane, and I would be willing to pay for lessons. It’s just the type of activity that’s super hard to squeeze into an already-hectic schedule of mine.
What was the last award you recieved for? A academic distinction in college.
Axl Rose - like or dislike? Like, but I’m nowhere near a passionate fan. I just don’t have any reasons to actively dislike him.
Do you like air being spelt ayre or ayer in rap or hiphop or is it nasty? I don’t care.
Is the sky outside Azure? If not, what shade is it? No, it’s pitch black.
Belle amour (we've been here before). - B
Do you call anyone baby? Is it sweet or an overrated name for affection? Just my dogs. I find it sweet; it’s my preferred term of endearment if in a relationship.
Bby - does this shortened version bug you? No; my friends and I use this with each other.
Do you know what BC in terms of time stands for? Before Christ, but I prefer using BCE.
BDf - For or against? I don’t know what this is referring to.
Do you prefer beach breaks, city breaks or winter breaks? Why? Beach breaks. Winter break is an immediate cross-out since we don’t even have winter; and I already live and work in an urban area as it is. Beaches are my way to go if I want to escape life for a bit and completely unwind.
Do you spell out boyfriend properly or put bf in texts/online? I can use either depending on what I feel like typing out. It’s not that serious haha.
Do you know what bg is short for? Upon reading this question I immediately thought ‘background,’ but if this question had another meaning in mind I wouldn’t be aware of it.
Do you know anyone with the last name Bhays? No.
Have you ever been bird watching? What did you see? No, doesn’t sound like my kind of hobby.
Do you like Bjork? Not in particular, but just like the Axl Rose question I don’t have anything against her either.
What does this read: bk 2moz miss u lyk fk. Doesn't this text speak annoy? No one types like this anymore at least among people I know, but I imagine it would lowkey bother me a bit.
Do you like BMWs? They’re whatever. I don’t pay attention to cars much.
What is the nearest book to you called? How many times have you read it? There aren’t any books here up on the rooftop.
BnQ - gone there? What did you buy? Idk what that is.
Are you more brainy or brave? I wanna say brainy, if anything? I’m pretty jumpy lol.
Did you like the BSBs (Backstreet Boys) as a kid? How about now? No, I’m a little too young for that generation of artists and groups.
Burgers, Hot Dogs or Salads at a Barbecue? We don’t really practice ~barbecues~ here. But at Filipino parties I would usually flock to lumpia and fried chicken, hehe.
Do you have a Byro? No, because I also don’t know what that is.
Cold eyes and filthy lies all leave me petrified. - C
Do you have a Cactus (Cacti)? No, I don’t like plans.
Do you know what a CCTV is? Yes...?
How many CDs are in the room you are currently in? None where I am right now but I have all of Beyoncé’s albums save for Lemonade in my bedroom. I also have Paramore’s self-titled album and Hayley Williams’ Petals For Armor. My CD collection is about to experience a revival because of BTS, though. My plan to get all versions of all their albums is rock solid, lmao.
What's your favourite cereal brand? Cookie Crisps.
Do you like children's TV shows still? Which one(s)? I’ll revisit an episode or two of shows I watched as a kid at a given time for old times’ sake, but I don’t regularly watch children’s TV shows anymore. I haven’t for a very long time.
Cinnamon - Yum or Yuck? I’m actually kind of in the middle about it. I feel like too many desserts have been banking on cinnamon, so the taste of it can be a little tiring. It’s delicious if I haven’t had it for a while, though.
Do you know anyone with the initials and or name CJ? Quite the opposite; I know PLENTY of JCs, even my sister is one. I know one or two CJs but that’s it.
Have you ever met a self professed clairvoyant? What did they do/say? No.
Do you watch CNN News? What's your prefered news channel/show? I don’t tune into the channel but every once in a while I will encounter a CNN link on social media that I’d actually click on and read through. As for preferred news sources, I don’t have one as there are matters to criticize about 99% of them lol; but I am most likely to trust articles I from AP or Reuters. Just things you pick up as a journalism student.
How many cousins do you have? I have 9 first cousins. I lose count by the time I try to go beyond that since I don’t even know all of my dad’s cousins, which makes it hard to track who my second cousins are.
Do you still draw with crayons? When was the last time you did? Drew what? I don’t remember anymore.
Do you know what a CSS feed is? What is it? I’m familiar with the term but never bothered to learn about what it is.
Do you like cycling/biking? What type of bike do you have? ...I don’t even know how to ride a bike.
Do you really like it, is it is it wicked. - D
What is the most dangerous animal you've petted/held? I can’t decide between snake or crocodile.
Do you like Death Metal? If so, which band(s)? I wouldn’t say I do.
Did you ever keep a diary/journal? I did a million attempts to keep a diary when I was younger, but I was never able to keep up with any of them and I ended up having 4598358395 notebooks with one or two entries each at most. Having a Tumblr page for surveys has so far been my most successful streak at keeping some type of journal.
Do you prefer small, medium, large or no dogs? I prefer all dogs.
Do you know what DP stands for in porn? Yes.
Have you ever dressed up as a celebrity for a party/Halloween? I went as my favorite female wrestler once. I wouldn’t strictly call her a celebrity, but she’s a very well-known personality in the wrestling industry so she’s popular in that right.
DS or Wii? Why? Wii. I was able to make more memories with it.
Does dust make you sneeze or cough? Sneeze, usually.
How many DVDs do you have all together? Idk, I don’t buy DVDs anymore.
Do you dye your hair regularly, sometimes or never? I’ve never done it.
Every love lies sometimes . . . - E
What's something you refuse to eat? Most fruits.
Don't you think the word ebb is so pretty? I’m neutral about it. I don’t use it a lot.
Do you like Chocolate Eclairs? I love eclairs in general haha. Chocolate eclairs in particular sound delicious.
Ever tried edible paper? Yeah, with the White Rabbit candy.
Eevee - pretty name or too Pokemon-y? Definitely very Pokemon-y.
Do you sometimes mix up the spellings/meanings of affection and defection? Erm, no? They have completely different spellings and meanings, so I personally have never switched them up.
Do you have a big ego, low self esteem or somewhere in between? I think I’m somewhere in between. I’m insecure about some things about myself, but I don’t really put myself down 24/7. I feel like that would put such a strain on my mental health, which I certainly would never need.
What Element does your starsign fall under? I think earth? My co-workers were just discussing this last Friday, but I couldn’t really butt in since I can’t bring myself to care about astrology. I know they mentioned Taurus being an earth sign though.
Do you show your emotions easily and freely or hide them? Depends...I can do either depending on the situation.
What is your favourite form of entertainment? Korean reality shows are quickly becoming a favorite of mine at the moment. I also like compilation videos on YouTube.
What will they write on your epitaph? I’ve honestly hadn’t put much thought into this yet, and I don’t plan to anytime soon. It just seems like a super grave thing to think about lol.
Estimate/guess what number we are on now? Maybe 60s or 70s?
Do you know basic social etiquette? I mean etiquette will always differ per country or culture, so what is basic in other countries might not be here, and vice versa. I think it’s hard to measure.
Does your country use the Euro, Great British Pound, Dollar or other? Other.
Do you still get excited on Christmas Eve? Yes. Mostly for the free food and the opportunity to see relatives I really only ever see every December 24.
What animal/creature that is extinct do you wish wasn't? Those that went extinct from human activity.
What colour eyes do your parents have? Black/dark brown.

Removal of the Korean-Korean decree in China?…
Tumblr media
Three dramas produced by CJ ENM, including 'Wise Prison Life', 'Another Oh Hae-young' and 'Queen Inhyeon's Man', started airing on Bilibili, the Chinese version of YouTube, earlier this month.
According to the Chinese Embassy in Korea and CJ ENM on the 8th, Queen Inhyeon's Man (2012) and Oh Hae-young (2016) started airing for the first time on the 3rd and Wisely Living in a Prison (2017) started airing on the 6th, respectively.
Wise prison life surpassed 2 million views within two days of its airing, ranking first on the popular drama chart. Queen Inhyeon's Man also took second place on the drama popularity chart with 870,000 views as of 11 am on the 8th.
The audience evaluation also recorded 9.4 points (out of 10), receiving favorable reviews.
Following 'Saimdang Light's Diary' and 'Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food' followed by three CJ dramas aired on online video platforms, the number of Korean dramas aired in China increased to five this year.
All three works to be aired this year have passed the deliberation of the General Bureau of Photoelectricity (broadcasting regulatory authorities) this year, and expectations for the lifting of the Korean War ordinance are growing.
The General Bureau of Photoelectricity has not passed the deliberation for Korean dramas since 2017, but in February passed ‘Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food’ for the first time.

2/3 To NYC
This is my first post here.
My intention is to create an online journal, I don’t feel like writing on paper because my hand gets tired and I’m not the best at maintaining a physical diary. I figure here I can write whenever and wherever I want.
I’ve arrived in New York City and my life will be different from here on out. After I touched down my feelings were complex and dichotomous, at odds with each other, all the same at once et cetera et cetera. I felt like an imposter, I felt like I was encroaching, I felt as if I was home, I felt as though this was something I was meant to be doing, I felt undeserving, I felt terrified, I felt ready. On the plane I had a thought, a bit intrusive: I’ve made a terrible mistake. What have I done? I’ve left my only home, I’ve forsaken it all for... this? In my defense both chicago (where my layover was) and NYC leave a little bit to be desired on the flyover, especially in the winter. They’re ugly, in short. Especially the Chicago Midway area... ew.
I did see Sheepshead Bay on my entrance to nyc, we flew right past it. I can’t explain it but I knew without even checking a map that it was Sheepshead. Intuition is funny like that I guess. My ancestral home; the old country as I’ll be humorously referring to it from here on out.
My roommates seem cool. I hope I don’t get the ick with them. I don’t think I will but I’m known to get the ick... Ariel works in investigative journalism as a producer on a show. She’s a Virgo (i’m trying to not pigeonhole people but it’s so hard to change old habits) and may or may not be an alcoholic... I don’t think she is but we’ll find out. Her man, her “fuckbuddy” as he likes to refer to himself, is also staying with us right now. He’s a whirlwind to say in the least. Akiyo Komatsu. He’s an actor and cooks well. Mom loved the fact that he was Japanese. Kind of all over the place, I don’t know if it’s in a bad way or not. I could see him getting mildly famous. Finally there’s Dillon, the other rent payer in the house, who works in fashion clothing design for like.. marshalls and ross and stuff. Lower end things. He said he would love to work for a smaller, more specialized house like Pyer Moss, which I love. I think he didn’t realize how into fashion I was, and his eyes kind of lit up when I told him. It was cute. He also makes music and has a surprisingly beautiful, folky voice.
I think our biggest issue in the house will be deep cleanliness. Nobody seems to really care for deep cleaning, myself included, so that’ll have to be something that we fix lol. We talked a little bit about doing some clearing out this weekend which I sincerely hope happens; the place has had revolving roommates for at least 10 years and there’s mismatched stuff everywhere.  A lot about 133 Lynch reminds me of Cardiff in SC.
And now for the people who have been reaching out:
Dylan will be here next week but I haven’t decided if i forgive him for being antisemitic that one time. Shea wants to hang out but she’s not a huge priority to me except for the fact that she might be able to get me a job, which I’m gonna need. I texted Aunty Mara but she hasn’t gotten back to me. Sepehr wants to see me but he also might be flirting with me and I don’t know how I feel about that. I haven’t texted Claire yet but she lives like at least an hour away which is brutal. Con and I are going raving this weekend, they remind me so much of CJ and I hope that doesn’t manifest into anything negative because they’re really sweet. I’d like to avoid romance with them if possible. I just don’t see myself with a Cancer.
So far I’ve picked up pillows, some new knives, a steamer, some whetstones, and an immersion blender (these are just the highlights). Today I’m getting a floor lamp and a knife block. I still need to put my clothes away and decorate. I’m very curious to get the 411 on Leonore, my previous roommate, but what I really value is what she thinks of Ariel.. I don’t know if I’ll get that opinion though. It also could be crazy biased. She left some random crap here and I want it out, like her “grandmas furniture” (a ratty old chair that desperately needs reupholstering among other things, the latter are taking up space in the front closet). I also bought new hangers that I need to return. They’re plastic and shaped so strangely... My precious clothes! I fear they’ll get ruined.
It’s funny that I’ve said little to nothing of my past life in San Diego, but that seems on brand for me. I pack up and leave with nary a thought of those I leave behind. This happened in high school, but I also didn’t enjoy the people I spent my time with in high school. Hopefully I’m a little better this time around.
Finally: my health issues. My pinworms need to get better so I can be sexy in the city. This has gone on for far too long and I’m hoping this second series of medication clears it up completely but I’m nervous that won’t be the case. It seems as though this always happens, my life gets ruined by digestive health issues in january. How lame.
I’ve said too much already, my goodness. Lauren was right about journaling, as she usually is. I’ve missed lots I’m sure. Let me read her card as I promised I would last night, then write some more, then be done. x

Have you ever been under general anaesthetic? What were you having done? Yes. I’ve had to have several surgeries.
How do you show the ones you love affection? I haven’t been doing a good job at that lately. :/ I’ve been such a pain and difficult to be around lately because I’ve been so miserable and irritable and depressed and in pain and just feeling really, really shitty and ugh. I feel so guilty because my family gets the brunt of it and they don’t deserve it at all and they do so much and more for me and I’ve had to be totally dependent on them and do it anyway and they’re so patient and loving and ughhhh. I’m a piece of shit.
Are you more passive or aggressive? Passive.

Transcribed from my diary. Yes, a physical diary.
I am grateful for...
Serenity. My morning solitude is important to me. With 7 of us on this camping trip, I wasn’t quite sure if I’d get the morning to prime my day with meditation, journaling and silence. I did.
My view. I’m on a campsite in Algonquin. I took my pen, diary, coffee and portable chair to an empty campsite away from my friends. The lake is in front of me, peering through the sparse pine trees. I’m taking it all in.
Noticing small things in life. My mind wonders when I run, when I cook and when I’m idle. I’ve started to notice small things in life, in me. I chew with the left side of my mouth even though I’m right handed. There are more flies and bugs next to the swamp than there are next to the lake. When ginger is fresh, it’s softer and easier to grate. Black and blueberries appear to be more dense than raspberries. When I used to be so caught up with ‘doing’, these things fly by me. I don’t notice the small things in life. How did the world become what it is? The world is vast. I am vast.
Promising to take my mom to Spain. A couple of weeks ago, I asked myself what it’d be like to lose my mom one day to the ultimate fate of death? I could not fathom. So in that moment, I made a pact with myself to gift my mom something that I’ve put off for years - a trip to Spain. My mom loves to travel. When she was recovering from her knee surgery, immobilized, she was glued to YouTube’s travel channels. According to her, she was ‘researching’. My mom’s voice lit up over the phone when I promised her to take her to Spain when travel ban lifts. She made me pinky swear. I don’t know how many more years I have in life to light my mom up like this.
Gifting. June is a month of good friends’ birthdays. Early June, I spent one full morning gift shopping online. Gifting, when you think you’ve found a suitable and perfect gift, is elating. You can’t wait to get your friend’s text or call when they receive the gift in the mail. Keep in mind we are still social distancing in the city, so everything is delivered online. James, Hibiki whiskey. CJ, picnic mat for her outdoor pit stops to complement her new bike. Anita, Saje Peppermint Halo essential oil refill for stress. Julia, 30L waterbag for canoe adventures. It’s Julia’s birthday today, this is why we are on this camping trip. She seemed genuinely excited about her gift. I’m happy too.
My dairy. I’ve had you since 1995. I’ve moved all my writing to online. But at times like now, without a laptop, I’m grateful that you’re still here with me 25 years later.
