I almost posted this as a poll response, then remembered that you are always only one step removed from ship wars in fandom, and decided to make a post on my own blog instead. I find it so bewitching to witness Touya/Yukito battling against Seishirou/Subaru because it's like CLAMP's two souls pitted against each other. I love both ships a lot, for very different reasons. Touya/Yukito is just so healthy. They love each other profoundly, they treat each other right, they have good communication once plot shenanigans stop happening, they are equals from the start. Their love is soft, and deep, but that doesn't mean it's not passionate; we never get to see that passion because of the target demographic of the manga, but Touya pinning Yukito against a tree is just one example of what's happening off-stage. Their relationship is what every mentally healthy person should aspire to. Seishirou/Subaru is just the opposite. They are both mentally unhealthy people at the time the manga starts, Subaru because of having such a heavy burden on his shoulders ever since he was a child, Seishirou because he's a sociopath. Their relationship starts off with a profound power and knowledge imbalance, in that Subaru being younger means that his potential is not fully developed the way Seishirou's is, and that the game Seishirou is playing with Subaru is rigged, since Subaru doesn't remember the rules. Subaru never stood a chance, and that defines their entire relationship even when they meet again later in life, because Subaru is still too emotionally damaged even as he's grown into his powers, while Seishirou still acts unaffected. A valid interpretation is that Seishirou would have killed Subaru if not for Hokuto's spell...except there is the little eye matter. Seishirou being a sociopath means what is generally considered normal doesn't apply to him, but if we try to translate Seishirou's wish into a more regular pattern, what Seishirou wanted was to be the only important person for Subaru. He couldn't let Subaru go any more that Subaru could, and that is profoundly unhealthy, and...profoundly relatable for anyone who's not mentally healthy and isn't in a healthy relationship. CLAMP never finished X, so we will never know Seishirou's last words to Subaru. Considering the precedent CLAMP set in this matter is in RG Veda's last volume, where the revelation of Ashura Ou's actual last words to Taishakuten completely change the reader's perception of the entire story, I cannot help wondering if CLAMP meant to include a similar scene for Seishirou's last words. We will never know, but the mere fact that CLAMP left us hanging means Seishirou/Subaru will always be in my head more than Touya/Yukito, since we can only speculate on what their whole relationship was meant to be.

Seishiro and Subaru; The two are from opposing magic clans and accidentally meet as children when Seishiro has murdered someone (his clan specialises in assassins). Instead of killing Subaru, he makes a bet with him that they’ll meet in the future, and if after one year of protecting and pretending to love Subaru, he truly feels love for him and not indifference like all his other targets, he’ll spare him. Seishiro marks Subaru’s hands and wipes his memory of the event. Back to the present after many months, Seishiro loses an eye trying protect Subaru, and Subaru finally realises he’s in love with Seishiro, and when he goes to see him, the other man declares the year is up, and since he still sees Subaru as nothing but prey, he attacks him, breaking his arm and torturing him close to death, until Subaru’s grandmother uses magic to break the spell. Subaru enters a frozen state afterwards, and his twin sister Hokuto decides to take matters into her own hands, as she encouraged the two to be together, despite knowing there would be risks involved. She dons her brothers ceremonial robes and goes to meet Seishiro. She asks that he kill her instead, to protect her brother. Subaru sees this in a dream, shocking himself out a frozen state, and vows to get revenge for his sister. Tokyo Babylon pretty much ends here but the story continues slightly in X/1999 where there’s more trauma, more weird eye stuff, other fucked up toxic couples and 20 year long hiatus. Yay! Thankyou CLAMP for creating messed up characters!

Oh they're not just queercoded, I consider them canon given the context and all their interactions. Queer CLAMP ships rarely get to be explicitly confirmed and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle came out 20 years ago, the coding is probably all CLAMP could get away with at the time.

The caverns that they are after are near the power plant the ones in the southern tip that are huge in their lake Okeechobee are not yet targeted is what they're saying but it's not really true they want to do that too in order to have access and they're going to go ahead with it they're pretty strong reasons to take over this area a lot of it has to do with white gold and cadmium and they're moving out right now and they will start the process but we think it'll be tonight more shortly

bitches miss the dream team. it's me. i'm bitches. so here's a short fanfic i wrote solely for myself. please don't tag this as ship!!

this is an au where when dream goes to techno's base for the first time looking for tommy, techno isn't home, so tommy answers the door instead of hiding in his box. and he's traumatized from being manipulated so much, of course (but that's canon-)

Dream knows exactly where Tommy is now. Hiding, like a little coward, with his brother.

He had Tommy wrapped around his finger, able to manipulate him into doing anything, really. He couldn't have Technoblade helping him put his guard back up. He walks through the snowy lawn of Techno's base, leaving menacing footprints in the snow. He climbs the steps and knocks on the door, expecting an answer from Technoblade, but instead, a cheery voice sounds from inside.

"Oh, Techno must be home! Is the door locked...? He usually doesn't knock."

It was Tommy- Dream grows a smile beneath his mask; Techno isn't home. How perfect. And Tommy seems brighter, but he's still talking aloud to himself when no one is around... it makes Dream realize the impact of exile, being alone for so long. It makes him feel powerful.

Tommy opens the door, immediate shock washing over him. Dream could see him freeze, the way his relaxed fingers retract into defensive fists, his dull blue gaze turning grey. His mouth hung open, as if he would have said something, but he couldn't.

Dream wants to know exactly what is going through his mind. He speaks first, with a warm and welcoming voice, the one that Tommy had endured for weeks in exile, the only constant variable in his life at the time. "Tommy! I've been searching everywhere for you- I was so worried."

Dream sees a plethora of emotions flood the boy's eyes, predominantly fear- then a sudden, polarizing shift to relief. Tommy runs forward, tears bubbling under his eyes; he wraps his arms around Dream in a tight embrace. He's shaking, his head buried into Dream's shoulder. "Dream, I've missed you!" He cries through a voice crack. The pain in his voice makes Dream wince.

He wraps his arms around Tommy in return, letting him sob on his shoulder. This was good; Tommy still thought of him with fondness. He had been worried Technoblade had stripped all of his work away from Tommy.

"It's okay, I'm here now."

"I really shouldn't be doing this," Tommy says in a raw voice, "Techno will be mad. Don't tell him, Dream." There's desperation in his tone that forces a breath into Dream's lungs.

Just tell me you hate me.

George's words echoed in his ears, bouncing around in his emptied mind. Suddenly, Tommy's slender arms felt a lot different, warmer, more meaningful- he had glasses that pushed against his shirt and brown hair. A hug from George was so rare, only on special occasions did George hug anyone. After they win a tournament or a fight- never just as a greeting. His hugs always signified celebration. Dream felt confusion cloud his thoughts.

The tight hug that George has around him suddenly feels tighter.

Dream doesn't care about us.

Dream feels his breath hitch in his chest, his heartbeat growing heavier. The bear hug was now being given by Sapnap, the ribbon-like band around his head laying limp over one of Dream's arms. His lungs were not only emptied by the sudden flush of emotions he felt, but from the enormous squeeze Sapnap embraced him with. Every time Sapnap saw him was another big hug, as if he hadn't seen Dream in forever- even if it had only been a few hours. The happiness that radiated from his friend was always enough to make him feel better, even on the darkest of days.

But why did it feel so different now?

He doesn't care about us, George. We're on our own.

Dream's eyes clamp shut, and his chest heaves with a sudden whirl of feelings that hit him harder than a truck. Where is he? The SMP? L'Manburg? Why is does this hug feel so horrible and sickening? Why does he want it to stop so god damn badly?

He's pulled away from his vision when Tommy releases his hug and draws back, wiping his eyes and staring up at Dream with a huge grin.

Tommy.

Dream's arms stay limply outstretched for a moment, his fingers curling in towards his palms with a slight quiver.

The power, the leverage- was it even worth anything? What was it worth if the only two people he would ever want to rule with hated him?

He lifted his hand shakily to his mouth, covered by his cold, smooth mask. He feels a few years slip down his cheeks, but makes no effort to wipe them away. He feels powerless, even with every bit of puissance at his fingertips.

"Dream?" Tommy's smile had faded into a frown, his voice is hardly anything more than a whisper of wind.

Nothing really mattered, did it? Not without the two he founded the very land he stood on with. Not without Sapnap and George. He was nothing without them.

"Don't tell Technoblade I was here." He mutters through a shaky breath, then he turns and hurries out the door. The cool, snowy air hits his burning cheeks under his mask. He can hear Tommy's confused muttering as he descends back onto the snow-covered lawn.

What the fuck.

Binge-Watching: Pokemon Master Quest, Episodes 4-7

In which everything suddenly comes alive again, from the world to the pacing to the fights. Guys, Pokemon is good again! Hooray!

Secrets of the Sea

I’m not gonna lie, I’ve started feeling pretty tapped out on Pokemon Johto lately. The overabundance of uninteresting filler has left me with little to engage with or talk about. It’s felt like the show just isn’t that interesting anymore and is simply riding out the clock until the time comes to switch over to Gen 3. So imagine my relief when I realized partway through this stretch of episodes that I was enjoying Pokemon more than I’ve enjoyed it in quite some time. Folks, Master Quest has officially kicked this show back into gear, and I could not be happier about it. I’m actually having fun again! I’m eager to keep watching and see what new advetures Ash and his friends are gonna get tangled up in next! It feels like there’s life and energy to the proceedings once more! Maybe it’s a bit silly, but I didn’t realize how burned out I was getting until these episodes reminded me how good this show can be when it actually tries.

And there’s a lot to like about the Whirl Islands arc as a whole. It only took us five episodes to reach the big tournament we were building towards, and pretty much all of those episodes felt consequential. Misty caught her first new Pokemon in ages in episode 4, following a damn nice battle that fully sold me on how rough and tough a piece of coral can be. Episode 5 furthers the development of the Lugia mystery subplot with a deep-sea dive that’s honestly just fucking cool all on its own. The atmosphere underwater, especially the haunting soundtrack, really sell the mystique of uncovering this sunken ship and the artifacts inside it, and the Mantine/Remoraid tag-team makes the eventual team rocket battle feel unique in its own right. In fact, there’s a lot of great environmental detail that makes the Whirl Islands come alive as a setting. We’ve got some people who build their houses atop thriving Corsola nests, an Atlantis-esque battle stadium lead by a genuine priestess... this island chain feels more fleshed out than pretty much everywhere else we’ve visited on the mainland. This isn’t just an empty void of grassland for our heroes to trudge through, it’s a place with history and culture and customs. And it’s pretty neat just being able to discover all that.

Whale of a Time

But what really shocked me was when we got to the Whirl Cup itself. I’ve always said that the actual battles are the least interesting part of the Pokemon anime, as the animation isn’t good enough to sell their cool factor and they just end up kinda lukewarm. And yet, I really enjoyed the few battles we’ve gotten thus far. These are by far the most creative, imaginative fights in the Pokemon anime (not counting the movies, since they have the budget to be actually awesome on a technical level). Just look at Ash’s first fight against an intimidating Kingdra. Kingdra’s terrifying Twister attack! Totodile trolling his opponent by running across his Hydro Pump! Kingdra tries to scare Totodile, but Totodile just yawns and refuses to be baited! And then, Totodile finishes it off by clamping its goddamn mouth shut so it blows up like a balloon trying to do Hydro Pump and blasts itself into submission! Jesus Christ, that was hilarious and awesome at the same time. And Misty gets to show off by having her Corsola catch a Quilfish on its head! These aren’t just nebulously defined action figures slapping into each other, these are actual tactics and stakes and clever subversions. There’s a clear sense of who the combatants are, what their powers are and how their personalities influence their attempts to take each other down. And the underwater battlefield is constantly put to clever use, whether a smokescreen clouding up sightlines and forcing the fighters back to the surface or someone sucking in a lot of power to prepare a powerful attack. These are fights that tell stories, simple though they may be, stories with punchlines and uncertainty and surprising twists and meaningful ebb and flow. This is the baseline for what fights in Pokemon should be. And if this show’s finally managed to overcome its biggest stumbling block and get me excited for its action parts? Then this really is gonne be Johto’s redemption arc.

-I love how they installed a projector on their sub just so they could do the motto underwater. Dorks.

-”Finally, an internet purchase that actually worked!”

-”We have a visitor?” you are underwater jadhalsdhalsdaslk

-”It’s my wretched recurring Remoraid nightmare come true!” “I see no resemblance to your first grade teacher.”

-”Someone’s gonna lose their marble!” “You two are familiar with that, huh?”

-Daily reminder that James is service-minded at heart and it comes out in little moments like when he hawks hot dogs to audience members.

-Wow, that was intense. Thank god for vine whip!

-Misty looks so surprised that Brock’s pulling on her ear for a change, lol.

-It’s still funny to me that a Pokemon based on a remora evolved into an octopus. What’s the connection there, chief?

Amazing watching seisub and touyuki battle it out in that ship poll oh man

It was at 50/50 last I checked. Every time I check it’s either 50/50 or one has gained a slight, short-lived lead. Genuinely these ship tournament polls have been so thrilling to follow and the half-way descriptions of the status of each individual poll makes it all even more entertaining. Like an actual battle xD

the suspense is incredible xD

and the choices get harder too. The wholesome side of clamp fandom is battling against the darker side and it’s fascinating to see.

Fuukam - started as wholesome then bam, homoerotic betrayal and murder happened. Fuuma turned into antichrist and is trying to destroy the wolrd wheras Kamui is trying to save it. So they fight. But things ain't going too well for Kamui, he often ends up pinned to the wall, gets bones broken, bleeds and cries and gets licked. Homoeroticism through the roof

Taishura - gay cannibalism in name of love, fate and devotion. Not much is revealed about them but judging how Taishakuten is nothing pure could have been going on. On other hand maybe man was whipped behind the scenes, who knows
