Recently made the switch to Firefox (finally) because chrome got a browser hijacker and after extensive efforts to remove it I just said yknow what, this is a sign. But in the process of trying to remove it I installed multiple scanners for different things, and I learned there are so many Wares. I only knew about malware before, but apparently there’s also adware, badware, spyware, ransomware, all of which I’m (hopefully) purged. But the point of the post is, in non layman’s terms, can anyone explain what all of those are? I can guess based off names, but I ultimately failed in removing the browser hijacker from chrome so I’d like to know if there’s still something I should look out for.

Nearly a month later, just after exams have finished for this term and just before our break starts. The raffle winners are announced and Zayne is among the five winners of the prizes. I had nothing to do with that of course (mostly, cough, cough). An email is sent out with coupon codes and instructions...but in the name of cyber security, I seek Zayne out regardless.

"I want to confirm that we have the right email on file? You know how administration has overhauled their system recently. Some students reported being unable to log in or receive emails and I would hate for that to be an issue."

After Zayne confirms he received it (delayed), I join him in walking back to his dorm building. I ignore his weird look and return it with a smile.

"Bold of you to assume I'm following you."

He may not have invited me (sobs), but I was invited to the end of term party that'll be held there. I listen to the complaint of how a party will disrupt his study plans with bemusement.

"Study for what? All the exams finished today."

He's happy to know that he won, but it's completely expected. He knew he was going to get the prize since he cheated to get more participations.

"It took its time, but yes, I received it." He says with mild annoyance.

Having confirmed everything is correct, he makes his way back to his dorm. Hearing your footsteps next to him, he raises an eyebrow.

"I didn't say you were, but there's no need for you to walk so close to me." He furrows his brow.

With your explanation, he sighs.

"Ah, the party. I guess I'll have to change my study plan or... Find somewhere else to study without all that noise." He mutters to himself, more than anything.

He scoffs. He doesn't owe you an explanation, but he decides to answer your question anyways.

"I'm going through my courses faster than other students. I have to get ahead on next semester's subjects." He says as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.

However, this super-speed only lasts for as long as there's Eco in the tank, and V burns a LOT of it to maintain the advantage. Once it's out, they're fully vulnerable to attack until recharge.

Ayo just found ur blog, what do you think abt doing computer sci w/out a degree? Im a highschool dropout and amd using khan academy for their AP CS course and its super fun tho im not sure how realistic it is to enjoy computer sci esp since i dont know which branch id like most, (prob web dev tbh)

Hey! Regarding doing computer science without a degree, there are definitely still ways for you to get into the industry without one, such as getting certifications. While a degree is great to show that you completed a 2 or 4-year program at an institution, what matters the most is when you have a portfolio to show your progression and work--including all mistakes within your growth!

This can include logging your progression in a blog (like this one) and being active on Github on others' or your own repositories. Networking with others is also very helpful such as joining local comp sci and hacking events, career fairs, and even reaching out to other developers over Discord servers and other social media.

Regarding figuring out what area you like most in computer science whether it be web development (front, back, or full-stack), cyber security, managing big data and the cloud, artificial intelligence, or game development--The only way you can figure out is by trying it out and seeing what your passion is.

Simply put, it is definitely realistic for you to still enter the industry; getting a GED also helps just to seal away that last few years of High School so you can have that completed and out of the way. You got this! ✨
