On This Day: July 8 2018
Sleep Token performed at the UK Tech-Metal Fest on the Winspear Stage for what is considered only their 8th ritual. At the end of this set was the live debut of Blood Sport, which would not have an official release until November 21 2019 when the album Sundowning was offered for consumption. Due to lack of sources, it is possible that Blood Sport was played previously but this is the first mention of the song the curator of this blog has found so far. Edit: Per advice from another archivist, Blood Sport was also played a month prior, at Download Fest 2018.
The setlist was as follows:

According to several sources, the original band slated for that event had canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. The festival then advised there was a replacement act, a "worst kept secret", as Distorted Sound Mag put it. There was hint of it on the collective's website as well as on their Twitter.
Tumblr media
The word "வழிபாடு" used with the July 8th date is Tamil, the world's oldest spoken language, for "worship".

Crewman Moody was one of several Enterprise crewmen affected by the  polywater intoxcation leading  to the deaths of lab personnel on Psi 2000 and the personality changes in other members of the crew. Perhaps a buried desire for Yeoman Janet Rand led to this scene where he doggedly follows her down the corridor, giving yet another rendition of “I’ll Take You Home Again, Kathleen.” After all, Riley seemed to be  having a good time with it. Despite Rand’s attempt to get Spock’s attention, he never catches on, leaving the poor yeoman alone with Moody again. So we all know that McCoy eventually comes up with a cure (doesn’t he always?). But can you imagine the awkward encounter Moody might have had with her the next time they run into each other? Would Janet have ducked down the nearest corridor or would she have reassured Moody that she knew he meant no harm?
Tumblr media
Now the question is, was this scene the one and only time we see Moody? Or did he also appear in this recreation room scene in “The Trouble with Tribbles”? Memory Alpha seems to think he does appear in the scene where Kirk pulls his chicken sandwich and coffee out of the food synthesizer, only to find them both covered in tribble furballs. Out of all the male crew members who appear in this scene, the man above would be the closest candidate. No other crewman has dark hair except for Lemli (he is sitting at back table on the other side of the room).  He both does and doesn’t look like the Moody from the episode above. Definitely the hair color is right. Could be the same hairline, although that is hard to distinguish since we see them from two different angles.\ It’s possible the actor who played Moody may have developed a deeper tan when this was filmed. But it’s still hard to say. In either case, Moody is never seen again. He’s either faded into the background with the other 400+ members of the Enterprise or transferred to another ship.
Tumblr media
It was not the last time actor William Frederick Knight was seen or heard in Hollywood. Star Trek provided him with his first Screen Actors Guild job. But he has actually been on the stage all his life, starting with touring the country at age 5 as “Little Billy Knight, World’s Youngest Boy Preacher.”  From there he transitioned to stage acting while he was at Los Angeles City College. Knight was eventually brought to New York City to appear in the original cast of the long running Broadway play, Oh! Calcutta!  From there on he appeared both on and off Broadway for the next 15 years and at some point served as an enlisted man in the Air Force.
Tumblr media
Between stage gigs, William Knight began acting on television and film. He has close to 300 appearances, spanning from his first role on Star Trek in 1966 to the present day. Above is one of his early appearances as the head surgeon in the Knight Rider episode, “The Scent of Roses.” Other TV shows and movies among his credits are an episode of Simon and Simon, and movies The Lost Platoon and Navy Seals.
Tumblr media
But he is also well-known as a voice actor, especially by fans of anime.  He first began by doing the English voice of a revolutionary priest in Akira in 1988 and has continued dubbing other character voices in TV, film and video game anime franchises. Most of his roles are those of wise old men. He is often heard as the English voice of Chief Daisuki Aramaki in many of the Ghost in the Shell series.  William Knight has also been heard in the  Naruto: Shippûden TV series as the English voice of Danzô Shimura.  And he provided the English voice of Ultraman in that franchise as well.  If you wish to listen to a sample of his voice acting and an interview, this features a scene from one of the Ghost in the Shell films and a short interview with William Knight. https://youtu.be/3bypYcAJNh4
Tumblr media
But Knight also still is active on the stage. Above is a photo of his 2011 appearance in the play Nevermore, which is based on the Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “The Fall of the House of Usher” with Poe himself as one of the main characters.
Tumblr media
And Knight continues to be a presence in Hollywood. Above is a scene from A Better Place where he plays the part of Sam Abram. He’s acted in a number of web series and streaming TV shows since then.  Crewman Moody may not have had much of a career in The Original Series, but the same cannot be said of William Frederick Knight.  Film and TV/Stage /Voice actor - the man’s a triple threat and doesn’t show any sign of slowing up soon.

Shipwrecks to Explore in the Maldives
Exploring ships that sank a long time ago can be a special interest to anybody. Even if you are not that person, trying it out will be one of the most unforgettable experiences. If you are planning to visit the Maldives, plan a diving excursion to witness the colourful marine life that thrives amongst these shipwrecks.
Kuda Giri Wreck, South Malé Atoll
Tumblr media
A sunken fishing trawler lies on the seabed a swimming distance from the nearby reef ‘Giri’, southwest of Dighu island. Since its sinking in 1994, soft coral has been growing into the trawler. But the vessel is so well preserved that the hull appears almost intact. It lays on the slope of the seabed in a way with the bow facing upwards and the stern below it about 30 metres from the surface.
It’s home to a large population of jackfish, batfish, glassfish and many other small fishes. You’ll be able to see it from about a 19-metre dive down at the location.
Machchafushi Wreck, Kudhi Maa, South Ari Atoll
Tumblr media
This wreck was caused neither by an accident nor by abandoning a ship. A huge Japanese cargo ship was intentionally sunk in 1998 in order to create the wreck. Now, this artificial reef is teeming with marine life from tiny batfish, and pufferfish to large lionfish.
This is one of the wrecks in the Maldives divers are most attracted to. You’ll be able to snap some epic underwater photos here.
The Machchafushi wreck is visible from 12 to 30 metres below the surface. You can even enter the interior of the vessel through the access points of the hull on either side.
SS Sea Gull, North Malé Atoll
Tumblr media
Even a 1000-tonne ship won’t last for centuries at the bottom of the sea where the ever-growing corals are. The steamship SS Sea Gull sank in 1879 while sailing from London to Calcutta. Now, the wreck is hard to spot as the corals have taken over most of the ship and the parts of the ship are scattered on the seabed.
It’s located northeast of Gaafaru island. The ship’s anchor sticks out at low tide and usually sits just about a metre beneath the surface. But the ship was split into two halves and stationed on each side of the reef ridge. The deepest parts of the wreck are up to 30 metres below the surface.
This location is swarming with stingrays, eels and barracudas in some parts of the year. And it’s one of the most mysterious sights you want to catch on your stay in the Maldives.
The Shipyard, Lhaviyani Atoll
Tumblr media
This spot is unique. A ship’s bow sits erected out of the sea as the rest is submerged and stuck in coral. If the waters are clear, another wreck which is about 28 metres below the surface gets noticeable. This coral-rich area is filled with a variety of marine life such as sponges, anthias, batfish, angel fish, and even stingrays in the deeper rifts in the coral formation.
Lady Christine, North Malé Atoll
Tumblr media
In 1974, Lady Christine was sailing the area laying communication cables and conducting an underwater survey. Unfortunately, it ran into a coral reef and sank. What is left of it is the bow protruding out of the water and the scattered remains. However, the sad story of Lady Christine had a colourful ending; now, the ship is bound to the coral reef and the natural cave system beneath it and has become home to spectacular marine life. Witness turtles, sharks, and rays, and a spectrum of tiny species that’s found a home around the wreck.
Not sure where and how to start? Some hotels like Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives offer an exciting  Wreck Safari tour that’s perfect for divers on holiday.

The Weekend Mystery - Will the real Paul McCartney please stand up?
Tumblr media
Did the famous ex-Beatle really die in a car crash back in 1966?
On 12 October 1969, Tom Zarski rang the ‘Uncle’ Russ Gibb’s radio show on WKNR-FM in Dearborn, Michigan, and announced that Paul McCartney had been killed in an accident in November 1966 and the Beatles had drafted in a lookalike to keep the band fully functioning. He backed up his argument with several pieces of credible circumstantial evidence, including the decision by the band in 1967 to stop playing live in order to concentrate on their studio recordings and film work. Russ Gibb was so intrigued by the story that he then spent two hours on air mulling over the clues and playing Beatles records. When one caller urged him to play ‘Revolution 9’ (from The White Album) backwards, Gibb was amazed to find he could distinctly make out the words ‘Turn me on, dead man’ through his headphones. Despite the fact that Zarski had pointed out he didn’t actually believe Paul McCartney was dead, he was just interested in the theory, by the end of the programme networks across the United States were discussing the mysterious death of one of the world’s most famous rock stars and the events surrounding his demise. Hundreds of news journalists promptly flew to London and interviewed as many of the conspiracy theorists they could find, and from the reports that followed the only certainty is that many of them were experimenting with LSD, as none of it made much sense at all. The story ran that on the evening of Tuesday 8 November 1966 Paul McCartney and John Lennon were working late into the night on the Beatles’ upcoming album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band when a row developed over recording techniques and McCartney stormed out of the studio. Furious, he sped off in his Aston Martin and smashed into a van, dying instantly. The resulting fire prevented the coroner from positively identifying the body but the remaining band members were left in no doubt at all that McCartney had not survived. Another caller to Russ Gibb’s show claimed that McCartney had picked up a hitchhiker called Rita that night. When she suddenly realized who he was, she had screamed and lunged at her hero, causing him to crash into the van. Neither Rita nor the other driver were ever seen or heard from again. The public mourned as shock in but there was one unavoidable question: if McCartney had died in 1966, who was the man that looked like Paul and who had been hanging out with the Beatles ever since? The explanation ran that Beatles manager Brian Epstein was so horrified at the thought of the world’s most successful band breaking up that he held secret auditions and persuaded John, George and Ringo to have all their photographs taken with a stand-in to keep the public unaware of the accident. When Epstein died only nine months later, after a battle with depression and drug abuse, his untimely demise was cited as another piece of evidence. It was said that he just couldn’t come to terms with the loss of McCartney. The Paul-is-dead mystery was also conveniently used to explain McCartney’s sudden split from long-term fiancée Jane Asher (because McCartney stand-in William Shears Campbell didn’t like her) and that his new relationship with Linda Eastman (later McCartney) was Campbell’s real love interest. Another piece of supposedly compelling evidence is that for several years the other three Beatles had wanted to stop playing live shows because the audiences were screaming so loudly they couldn’t could hear anything, but McCartney had resisted. With Paul gone, the remaining three could do as they pleased – indeed the Beatles had last performed live on 29 August 1966, at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, and played no more live concerts after that. Conspiracy theorists nodded and agreed that it all made perfect sense, while others, including the Beatles, laughed it off as a ridiculous urban legend. And still the story continued. One American radio presenter had photographs of the singer before and after November 1966 scientifically compared and found there were obvious differences, one being that the nose was of a different length. A doctor from the University of Miami analysed voice recordings and concluded publicly that the recordings prior to August 1966 were different to those recorded afterwards. Paul McCartney, he claimed, did not sing on Beatles records after August 1966. By now fans all over the world were beginning to look for their own clues in Beatles music and album covers, and the clues turned up in spades. Here then are some of them, and the evidence seemingly pointing to the fact that Paul McCartney was dead. Sgt Pepper was the first album the Beatles released after the supposed accident, after recording began on 6 December 1966. When it reached the shops in June 1967, nobody noticed anything unusual about the artwork in connection with the Paul McCartney mystery, but in 1969 conspiracy theorists were able to detect a range of coded references to Paul’s demise. For a start the band appear to be standing at a graveside complete with flowers and wreaths. They are surrounded by famous personalities, who could be mourners, and one of them is holding an open hand above McCartney’s head, said to be a traditional Eastern symbol for death. The theorists looked closer and concluded that the yellow flowers at the foot of the picture are arranged in the shape of a left-handed bass guitar, Paul’s instrument, and one of the four strings is missing, signifying his absence. Under the doll’s arm on the right hand side there appears to be a blood-stained driving glove and the doll itself has a head wound similar to the one Paul was supposed to have died from and he is wearing a badge on his sleeve on the inside cover bearing the letters OPD, standing for ‘Officially Pronounced Dead’. The open-palm gesture actually appears on the front cover of Revolver, twice in the Magical Mystery Tour booklet, twice in the Magical Mystery film and twice on the cover of the original Yellow Submarine sleeve, but, in reality, none of it means anything at all. There is no such gesture in Indian culture symbolizing death. The badge Paul is wearing on the inside sleeve does not read ‘OPD’, it has the initials OPP on it. The badge was in fact given to McCartney when he visited the Ontario Provincial Police in Canada during the Beatles’ world tour in 1965. A statue of Kali, a Hindu goddess, also features on the front cover of the Sgt Pepper album, which the theorists maintain represents rebirth and regeneration, hinting that one of the Beatles has been reborn, or replaced. But Kali, from which the name of Calcutta is believed to derive, has traditionally been a figure of annihilation, representing the destructive power of time (kala being the Sanskrit word for ‘time’) Also, the ‘O’ shaped arrangement of flowers at end of the band’s name has caused some theorists to speculate that the whole thing reads ‘BE AT LESO’ instead of ‘BEATLES’. This was taken as a sign that Paul was buried at Leso, the Greek Island the band had supposedly bought. But none of the Beatles had bought a Greek island and there is no such place as Leso. There are many more pieces of ‘convincing’ evidence. I’ve just picked out some of my favourites. The Beatles all grew moustaches at the time to help mask a scar on the lip of McCartney stand-in William Shears Campbell. In fact McCartney did grow a moustache for Sgt Pepper as he was unable to shave at the time. Paul had fallen off his scooter on his way to visit his aunt and split his lip on a pavement, making it too painful to shave. He also lost a front tooth in the accident, explaining why he appears in the ‘Rain’ and ‘Paperback Writer’ promo videos missing one of his teeth. The accident also explains the scars seen during the White Album photograph sessions. The number plate on the VW Beetle shown on the Abbey Road cover reads LMW 281F, taken to mean Paul would have been 28 ‘IF’ he had survived. But Paul would have been only twenty-seven, and the VW Beetle had nothing to do with anyone at Abbey Road. The director of the photo sessions tried to have it towed away, but the police took too long to arrive so they went ahead with the picture anyway, leaving it in shot. McCartney is wearing no shoes in the Abbey Road photograph. His explanation was: ‘It was a hot day and I wanted to take my shoes off, to look slightly different to the others. That’s all that was about. Now people can tell me apart from the others.’ But the conspiracy theorists swore that the picture had been set up to look like a funeral march, with him as the corpse. On the records Rubber Soul, Yesterday and Today, Help and Revolver there were said to be many more clues. The song ‘I’m Looking Through You’ on Rubber Soul was thought to be about discovering that McCartney had been replaced. Some fans took these blatant ‘clues’ as hard evidence while others quickly realized all of those records were made prior to 9 November 1966 and could not possibly have anything to do with the supposed accident. But with hysteria mounting, even the thinnest clue came to look like definite evidence. In the lyrics to ‘I am the Walrus’, the line ‘stupid bloody Tuesday’ is taken by some to be John Lennon referring to the day of the accident that claimed his band mate. But when it was pointed out the alleged accident was supposed to have happened on a Wednesday morning, conspiracy theorists then claimed it was the Tuesday night that the two of them had fallen out before McCartney had stormed off, and to his death. Some believed it, while others dismissed it as an already thin lead being stretched even thinner. But then came the line ‘waiting for the van to come’, a supposed reference to the ambulance, and ‘goo goo ga joob’ – apparently Humpty Dumpty’s last words before he fell off that wall and bashed his head in, as Paul was supposed to have done. The Beatles themselves very quickly became very irritated by all the speculation. And it was not long before the band, aware every lyric and photo shoot was now being studied, began to play up to the hysteria. After writing one complicated and seemingly meaningless song called ‘Glass Onion’ Lennon remarked, ‘Let the f**kers work that one out.’ But he included the lines ‘Well here’s another clue for you all / The walrus was Paul’. In no time at all, people were announcing the walrus was a symbol of death to some cultures and Lennon despaired. It wasn’t much fun being a Beatle any more and the band broke up soon afterwards. So – to sum up – if the real Paul McCartney had died in his Aston Martin in 1967, and a replacement found in time for the photo shoots for the next album, then imagine the string of coincidences that needed to have taken place. For a start he had to look and sound just like Paul. Then he had to convince Linda or, if she was in on the plot, she had to like him enough to stay married to him for the next thirty years. And he would have had to learn how to play guitar left-handed, which is even less likely, I can assure you. John Lennon would have to have been fooled too, as it is unlikely he would want share song-writing credits and royalties with a stranger for the last three years of Beatles recordings, especially as Epstein wasn’t there to tell him to. And most of all, for the lookalike to have written and recorded songs of a McCartney standard for over thirty years would be hard to imagine. Hang on a minute, I have just remembered ‘The Frog Chorus’ and ‘Mull of Kintyre’, and so my argument is beginning to wear thin, even to me. And another thing – would the real Paul McCartney have married Heather Wills, or whatever her name was? Perhaps Zarski was right after all – there must be an impostor. - Albert Jack Albert Jack AUDIOBOOKS available for download here

A slightly chilly night in Lancaster, PA was the setting for The Lawrence Arms, Red City Radio, and Sincere Engineer as they came to the Chameleon Club as a part of the North East portion of their tour.
Sincere Engineer
Sincere Engineer (aka. Deanna Belos) sometimes plays with a full band, but at least for this tour, she was touring solo and acoustic. Her performance was largely in support of her debut LP Rhombithian which came out late last year. She also covered “My Friend Peter” by the Alkaline Trio with copious amounts of crowd participation. The future is bright for Sincere Engineer. Keep an ear out for her to be making some real noise in the future.

Red City Radio is the band that always seems to be playing when I’m there to interview a band. With that said, they lived up to the other times seeing them and brought the four(!) part vocal harmonies and guitar interplay to the party. Of course, there were some of the usual highlights “Two Out of Tree Ain’t Rad” and “Electricity” but they also introduced new material from their first release on Red Scare Industries an EP called Sky Tigers.
The Lawrence Arms

After releasing their sort-of best of collection We Are The Champions of the World, one might think it would be appropriate for the Lawrence Arms to draw heavily from that for their live set.
Well, that’s exactly what they did. As such, this meant that they played a variety of their biggest songs, touching on all of their eras, much to the delight of the crowd. We got oldies like “Ramblin’ Boys of Pleasure,” “On With The Show,” “Right As Rain Pt 2” some ‘Oh Calcutta’ goodies “The Devil’s Takin’ Names” “Are You There Margaret? It’s Me, God” and some recent favorites (“You Are Here” “Seventeener”).

They began their encore with “100 Resolutions” and by the time they walked off the stage for a final time, it was clear that the band has a lot left in the tank and a lot left to say.

Before all of that, I had the pleasure of sitting down with 2/3 of The Lawrence Arms: Brendan Kelly and Chris McCaughan. We dove deep into a lot of the thought process behind putting together their sort-of best of collection ‘We Are The Champions of the World’. Plus, we got some insight into where the band is at in life now and what their intentions are for the future.

Sourav Ganguly is a former International Indian cricket player and also one of the most influential players in the history of Indian cricketing. He has a record of the highest score that is 183 by any Indian in the ICC cricket world cups so far.

Sourav Ganguli: Birth, Family, and Education
He was born on 8 July 1972, in Kolkata (then Calcutta). His father's name was Chandidas Ganguly and his mother's name, Nirupa Ganguly. He was born into a rich Sourav Ganguly family and had a luxurious life. His father ran a flourishing print business. That time cricket was not the famous sport in West Bengal because football took precedence those days. Sourav Ganguly was interested in football also but his parents want him to study and did not want him to opt for any sport. But his elder brother Snehashish was a stable cricketer for Bengal and so he helped Sourav Ganguly to build his career in cricket.
He took admission in a cricket academy where his batting talent was identified. He grew up and learned sport with his brother and also the tricks of the trade. Gradually, he rose through the ranks, and after scoring a century for Orissa Under-15, he became the captain of the St. Xavier School's cricket team. Sourav Ganguly house
In 1989, Sourav Ganguly was selected to play for the Bengal team. Coincidentally, his brother dropped from the side that year. After an impressive show in the Ranji Trophy in the 1990-91 season, the left-hander came into the limelight.
Sourav Ganguly: Personal Life
The marriage of Sourav Ganguly is full of drama or we can say is just like a Bollywood movie. He ran away with his childhood friend in 1997 Dona Roy. The families of the two were not agreed and so the couple took the decision. Both the families were troubled by the incident and later came to reconciliation.
In February 1997, both the couple got married. The wedding proved to be another boost for him as he evolved as a wonderful cricketer in ODI's. In ODI ton against Sri Lanka, he scored his maiden and then won consecutive Man of the Match awards. He also featured in the 1999 World Cup and struck 183 against Sri Lanka. This was the highest score in ODI cricket of Sourav Ganguli.
The couple has a Sourav Ganguly daughter Sana Ganguly who was born in November 2001. His father Chandidas Ganguly died at the age of 73 after a long illness on 21 February 2013.
Sourav Ganguly: International Debut
In 1992, he made his international debut against West Indies. It was not an ideal start as he could score just 3 runs batting at No. 6 in an ODI at the Gabba, Brisbane. He was dropped immediately due to his as he was perceived to be "arrogant" and his attitude towards the game was openly questioned. It was also rumoured that Sourav Ganguly refused to carry drinks for his teammates, commenting that it was not his job to do so and later denied by him. s a result, he was removed from the team.
He then went back to domestic cricket and worked hard. In the Ranji seasons of 93, 94, and 95 consecutively, he was a spectacular run maker. In the 1995-96 Duleep Trophy, he scored 171 and was called back to the Indian side. He played to the National Team for a tour of England in 1996. For the single ODI, he played but was omitted from the team for the first Test. Later, Navjot Singh Siddhu left the England tour because of the mistreatment by the then captain Mohammad Azharuddin.
Therefore, Sourav Ganguli got a chance to make his Test debut. For the first time in the whites, in the second Test of the tour that was played at the Lord's London, he represented the national side. Let us tell you that in the same game, Rahul Dravid also made his Test debut. Sourav Ganguly scored 131 and Rahul Dravid 95. In the next Test at Trent Bridge, Sourav Ganguly scored 136 and became the third batsman in the history to score centuries in the first 2 innings after Lawrence Rowe and Alvin Kallicharran. He had the gift of an immaculate timing and was termed as the "god of the Offside".
He also shared a 255 run stand with Sachin Tendulkar, which became at that time the highest partnership for India against any country for any wicket outside India. The Test ended in a draw, handing England at 1-0 series victory, Sourav Ganguly scored 48 in the second innings.
Sourav Ganguly: Era of Captaincy
After some match-fixing scandal by some of the players of the team in 2000. Sourav Ganguly was named as the Captain of the Indian Cricket Team. The decision was taken due to Tendulkar stepping down from the position for his health and at that time Sourav Ganguly was the vice-captain. His start as a captain was well and lead India to a series win over South Africa in the five-match one-day series and led the Indian team to the finals of the 2000 ICC KnockOut Trophy where New Zealand defeated the Men in Blue.
Then a series arrived that proved to be the game-changer for Sourav Ganguly as well as for Indian cricket. At that time Australia was a champion and defeating them would like a distant dream for any team. Under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, India broke Australia's streak of winning 16 consecutive test matches in 2001.
During the Natwest Series, another highlight of Sourav Ganguly's career where India beat England in an ODI at Lord's and he swayed his T-shirt from the balcony of the Lord's. It was the response to Andrew Flintoff who swayed his T-shirt at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
India reached the final of the World Cup in 2003 for the first time since 1983 but lost to the Australians. Personally, Sourav Ganguly had a successful tournament, he scored 465 runs at an average of 58.12, including three centuries.
As a captain by 2004, he had achieved significant success and was deemed as India's most successful captain by sections of the media. During his captaincy reign, his individual performance deteriorated especially after the World Cup, the tour of Australia in 2003, and in 2004 the Pakistan series. For the first time since 1969, Australia won a Test series in India.
Due to indifferent form in 2004 and poor form in 2005, Sourav Ganguly was dropped from the team in October 2005. The cap[taincy was passed to Rahul Dravid, his former deputy. Sourav Ganguly was awarded the Padma Shri in 2004, India's fourth-highest civilian award, in recognition of his distinguished contribution in the field of sports. The award was presented on 30 June, 2004 by then President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
Sourav Ganguly: The Chappel Saga
In September 2005, the former Australian cricketer Greg Chappell became the head coach of India. The dispute of Greg Chappel with Sourav Ganguly resulted in several headlines. Greg Chappel had emailed the Board of Control for Cricket in India, that Ganguly was "physically and mentally" unfit to lead India and that his "divide and rule" behaviour was damaging the Indian team. As a result, the Board tried to intervene and attempted to bring both of them together to work as a team. But due to poor performance and disputes with the coach, Sourav Ganguly was removed from the captaincy and also dropped from the side. Therefore, to lead the team, Rahul Dravid was chosen as a captain.
Sourav Ganguly: Comeback
In domestic cricket, he performed well. Ten months later during India's tour to South Africa, Sourav Ganguly was recalled after his middle-order replacements Suresh Raina and Mohammad Kaif suffered poor form.
He scored 51 in the first Test against South Africa. In Johannesburg, India won the match and Ganguly did well. He was recalled to the ODI side also and some impressive performances gave him a place in the 2007 ODI World Cup.
In the latter stages, he performed well across formats and scored maiden Test double hundred against Pakistan in 2007. Consistently, he was doing well and decided to bid adieu to international cricket after being in a form. He retired from international cricket in a Test series against Australia at home in 2008 after scoring 324 runs from 4 Tests at an average of 54.

Newport Beach Bayfront House
Happy new week, my dear friends! It’s great to share this newly-built Newport Beach, CA bayfront house with you guys. Here, the architect, Eric Aust Architect, (previously featured on Home Bunch here: California Modern Farmhouse Beach House), shares some insights:
“The client purchased the lot in order to build a custom home for himself and his two teenage children. His goal was to have a comfortable, modern beach house with traditional design aspects. The lot is small (30’x85’) but typical for the area. The major bonus of this lot in particular is that it included an additional large sand area between the lot and Newport Harbor. The design focused on an open concept with views out to the harbor. We used large multi-slide steel doors along the rear of the house in order to provide unobstructed views to Newport Harbor and the boats beyond. Finishes inside the house have a nautical, rustic feel without being kitschy. The house feels light and bright due to well placed windows, without feeling like you’re looking right into your neighbor’s homes. We were also able to include a small 3rd floor bonus room and roof deck that provide expansive views.”
See the complete house tour and its details shared by the builder, Jack Mitchell Construction. I hope you have a good time!

From Chapati to Sticky Rice
People who have spent considerable time in India have repeated to us time and time again the same line, “India will change you.”  And to neither of our surprises, this turned out to be the case. Here are few examples:
Tumblr media
We learned quickly that every day would be a challenge, and that nothing can be taken for granted in India. Getting from A-B, finding a restaurant, finding a pharmacy, finding a bathroom, heck even walking next to each other in a crowd can be tough in Delhi. Travelling here forces you to maintain a calm and composed state of mind even in the most trying of situations. Given that timetables and stated schedules are meaningless, letting yourself get flustered at the first hiccup can be a trip ruiner.
True Statement: If you can travel in India, you can travel anywhere in the world.
We experienced sensory overload pretty much every day. I’ve never been in a place that had so many smells, sights and sounds ricocheting off each other at all hours. While we continuously felt overwhelmed by this, we soon learned to appreciate the vibrancy of the everyday chaotic routine of India.
Living healthy is incredibly easy to do when you put yourself in a healthy environment. For two months we didn’t eat meat, rarely drank alcohol and didn’t consume dairy. Restaurants aren’t marketed as “vegan” or “farm to table”... they just are. We found ourselves sleeping incredibly well, practicing yoga nearly every day and reading more than we ever had in our lives. There is a reason that India is the yoga and meditation capital of the world… it is the perfect cure for the everyday chaos of living in such a country. Our New Year's resolutions are to continue this healthy lifestyle as we continue our travels and re-enter the “real world” in April.
India constantly reminded us that the best way to get our questions answered was by talking to other people. Finding information online, if it exists at all, is often outdated and incorrect. The blogs we were reading tended to be 3-4 years old, and many of the restaurants/attractions we went out looking for had inaccurate pins on Google Maps. Instead of burying our heads in our iPhones, we were reminded of the old fashioned way of asking for help. Human-to-human interaction, to no surprise, was our lifeline when we were lost or confused (which was often). Locals were more than willing to point us in the right direction after we showed them a restaurant/guest house on on phone, and a few times they even walked us where we needed to go (without asking for anything in return) just to make sure we didn’t get lost.
Most important of all: trust your gut. If you don’t like a guesthouse, leave. If you don’t trust a taxi driver, look for another. If a menu looks questionable, the food is probably also questionable & you should keep searching. Letting your gut and intuition guide the way is the only way to survive long term travel in India. Decisions should be made from the heart and from the gut, not because a guidebook says something or Trip Advisor suggests it. The best way to experience India is through an open mind and flexible schedule. Things will go wrong, and your ability to roll with it will make or break your trip.
When we get asked about out two months in India we speak in incredibly fond and honest terms. We say “It’s crazy. You should go. You need to go. If you are able to slow down & let things happen how they may, travelling in India will simultaneously astonish you, startle you, and ultimately, change you.”
See you later India!
And just like that… exactly two months from the day we landed in Ft. Cochin, India, we hit the road for Chiang Mai, Thailand! Our 21 hour travel day looked something like this:
Alarm goes off at at 2:30, 2:35 & 2:40am in Delhi 3am taxi from Delhi guesthouse to Delhi airport 6am flight from Delhi to Calcutta 4 hour layover in Calcutta 2pm flight from Calcutta to Bangkok 8pm flight Bangkok to Chiang Mai 20 minute taxi from airport to guesthouse Bed at 11pm
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^^ That is a cricket :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From the moment we were dropped off in front of our guesthouse in Chiang Mai, we were struck by the silence that surrounded us. People weren’t honking their horns, dogs weren’t barking, construction wasn’t being done on every corner… we could even walk side by side without the fear of being run off the road. Compared to Delhi, Chiang Mai felt more like Disney World than the second biggest city in Thailand. It was refreshingly eerie.
Chiang Mai is the capital of Northern Thailand, and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. The charming “Old City” is a one-mile by one-mile grid, surrounded by a picturesque moat dating back to 1292. Buildings don’t rise above three stories, and there are cafes on every corner with reliably fast wifi. The developed, yet chilled out vibe of the city is what makes it one of the most frequented destinations for digital nomads and expats to settle in.
We spent our days exploring the city by pedal bike, and our nights eating street food at the market and listening to live jazz at a bar down the road from our guesthouse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ran a few times while in India, specifically in Goa, but gave up after being chased by dogs on more than one occasion. In Thailand I was able to run again, with the boundaries of the Old City creating a perfect four mile running path.
Tumblr media
One afternoon we ventured into to the beautiful countryside for a traditional Thai cooking course. We arrived at an organic farm 30 minutes from Chaing Mai, and promptly went to work pounding green curry paste, stir-frying pad thai and chopping ingredients for papaya salad. After these dishes were cooked and eaten, we escaped to a set of hammocks overlooking rice paddies to sleep off our meal. An hour later, we were awoken by the chef to begin cooking our second round of food: fresh spring rolls and mango sticky rice. It was a successfully glutenous day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
7-Eleven's are on every corner in Thailand and are the perfect place to escape the heat (the AC is always on full blast). You can find everything from soy chocolate milk to fresh mango, and even pay for bus tickets at the checkout counter. Even the most run down 7-Eleven in Thailand is more helpful than most of our hostels were in India.
Almost equal to the number of 7-Elevens in Chiang Mai are the number of Thai massage parlors. In an effort to discern the quality establishments from the ones looking to prey on backpackers, we followed the suggestion of our guesthouse owners and went to their favorite place. A Thai massage is more in line with a 60 minute full body stretch session than a traditional western relaxation massage, which is why they get mixed reviews from travelers. The masseuse takes full advantage of their feet, legs, elbows and forearms in their attempt to stretch and contort our bodies into once thought impossible positions… and we loved  it. At $6 USD for a full hour, it is no surprise that I returned a few days later for a follow up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One afternoon we took out 40-year-old rented bikes and ventured to the only public park in the Old City. To our delight, the park was in pristine condition and full of westerners doing acro yoga, tai chi, and slacklining. We spent the next few hours doing yoga, reiki, reading, napping and admiring the acrobatics going on around us.
I’ve been getting beard trims throughout our time abroad, but the time had come for a proper haircut. We asked our guesthouse for a recommendation, and after showing us on the map where the nearest place is, they warned us not to go after 5pm because that’s when the barbers start drinking. It was 7pm... and we decided to give it a go anyway.  When we showed up the whole family was having a big feast outside the parlor, complete with several bottles of alcohol scattered on the tables. They greeted us with big smiles and welcoming “Sawadees” (hello in Thai), and we asked, “Haircut?” A woman who looked like she hadn’t been drinking (too much) jumped up and led us inside. She threw a towel over my shoulders, we exchanged less than 10 words about what I wanted, and she started clipping away. Twenty minutes later, I had a fresh haircut and beard trim. If she had been drinking, she hid it well.
Tumblr media
Once a quiet and somewhat remote town in Northern Thailand, Pai is now properly on the backpacker trail in SE Asia and can easily be accessed from Chiang Mai by a 4 hour minivan ride than includes 762 turns (they sell shirts in Pai say “I survived the 762 turns to Pai”). Once you make it through the harrowing journey, you are greeted by a delightful town full of vegan restaurants, reggae bars & backpacker bungalows. Pai tends to get a bad rap from old timers and long term travellers because of how rapidly it has changed over the last 10 years, but to us it was an oasis. The resort -- yes we stayed at a “resort” -- where we spent the week was 12 dollars a night for a private bungalow, which included a fabulous free yoga class each morning along with free breakfast.
Tumblr media
We hiked one afternoon with our new friends from Auckland to a waterfall just outside of town. Per a few blogs online, we learned that a dog often serves as a tour guide on this particular hike. 15-minutes into the hike, a gorgeous pup strolls out of the woods and joins our ranks. For the next three hours Winston (as we named him) guided us through two dozen river crossings and patiently waited as we took photos at the waterfall. When we were ready to turn around and head home, Winston once again took the lead and showed us the way. Thanks for everything, Winston!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Pai we went to the 12th Annual Pai Reggae Music Festival. Their were ads all over town highlighting the event, saying the festival was on Saturday and Sunday, started at mid-day and was located on the grounds of a specific hotel just outside of town. We popped the hotel name in Google Maps, saw it was a few mile walk from our place, and opted out of taking a taxi. After a 2.5 mile walk in the hills we made it to the festival!
Tumblr media
Just kidding. Google Maps was wrong. We were nowhere near the reggae fest. We headed back into town, and ended up teaming up with other lost souls who were also searching for this mystical festival.
Tumblr media
After another 2 miles, we finally made it! It was 4pm, and we soon learned that the festival didn’t start until 7pm. Our first question to ticket counter… “Why does your poster say mid-day?” Their response was, “Great question.”
We headed to the nearest restaurant to grab a beer, and found out that the entire restaurant was full of festival goers who also showed up too early and were now killing time playing cards, drinking beer and swapping travel tales.
We returned at 7pm with a whole crew of new friends, and boogied until midnight. Who doesn’t love Thai men singing in English with a Rasta accent? We sure did.
Tumblr media
Camryn found a picture on Instagram a few weeks ago of a gorgeous sunrise in an obscure corner of Northeast Thailand that we hadn’t read about in any of our guide books. We asked a few people if they had heard of this magical place called Phu Chi Fa, and no one recognized the name. Immediately, we were intrigued. After two weeks in Chiang Mai and Pai, we were craving an off-the-beaten-track adventure. We got it, no doubt.
After a quick Google search, we read a few blog posts from travellers (dating back 4-5 years) saying that this town was their favorite in all of Thailand and not be missed. Details on getting there were hard to come by, as some said they took a bus there… others said the bus was no longer running and were forced to rent a motorcycle... some hired a private taxi. We chanced it on faith, and showed up at the bus station in Chiang Rai looking wide eyed for a sign saying Phu Chi Fa. And we found it :)
Tumblr media
After a casual 3 hour bus ride, we were dropped off in front of a police station in a tiny village that only exists so people can visit the Phu Chi Fa mountain at sunrise. We read online that English is not spoken here, so we were all prepped and ready to use our hand signals and phone calculator to aid in bargaining. After a 15-minute walk down the only street, we found a gem of a guesthouse. We dropped our bags, ate a forgettable meal at a roadside restaurant by pointing at pictures of food on the wall, and went to bed early. Tomorrow’s adventure would come in only a few hours.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our phone alarms greeted us at 3:30, 3:35, 3:40 and 3:45 am. We were out the door at 4am heading back to the police station to catch a songthaew (like a pickup truck with benches in the back) to take us halfway up the mountain. We were dropped within a 30 minute hike up to the top of Phu Chi Fa mountain, which we eagerly scampered up by headlamp with all of our warm clothes on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We were one of the first to the top, however within the hour nearly 300 Thai tourists joined us. Not another westerner in sight, to our delight.
Tumblr media
Trying to describe the sunrise would do its beauty a disservice, so I’ll just leave you with the pictures.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After a few hours enjoying the sunrise, we were back in front of the police station eating banana pancakes waiting for our bus to depart at 9am. Our next destination was Chiang Khong, a city on the border between Thailand and Laos. We arrived at our guesthouse in Chiang Khong and expected our $6USD a night room to be somewhat of a dump, and planned on heading into Laos the next morning. To our surprise, we were greeted by a gorgeous pool and fast wi-fi. Needless to say, we stayed two nights and spent a full day relaxing poolside. Treat yourself, right?
Tumblr media
You’ll hear all about Laos in our next post by Cam. Thanks for reading!
Best, JJ

Inside Varun Grover’s Travel Journal
Author Varun Grover unleashes his travelling soul on this chatty trade about his love for Benaras, Egyptian baklava and the Calcutta of his childhood.
Varun Grover is at first a traveller, who makes time to discover a metropolis even when travelling for exhibits on a decent schedule. Photograph Courtesy: Deepak Kattar
Varun Grover dons many hats—satirist, author, lyricist, comic—however via all of it, one factor is assured, his mastery of language. His tales have enthralled in Masaan and Sacred Video games, lyrics have resonated in Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Gangs of Wasseypur, and his comedy? It’s a scorching knife slicing via butter.
“You’ll be able to’t be a author when you don’t observe,” Grover recounts in a telephonic interview. Whether or not it’s his insightful feedback as part of the satirical collective Aisi Taisi Democracy or a poignant scene of two lovers sharing pizza at Assi Ghat in Masaan’s Benaras (a metropolis Grover considers residence), his writing displays a searing mind. In a dialog that prolonged nicely past the half an hour I had requested for, I learnt that Grover seeks out good meals with a ardour that warmed my foodie soul, and is at all times comfortable to swap journey suggestions, as will be seen in these edited excerpts.
How does travelling have an effect on your writing?
Writing is all about observing and residing via totally different experiences. If I observe nicely and keep open, tales are born in my thoughts. In the end, being a author is about having a world view and understanding how individuals sort out each the political and the social.
Which place has at all times captivated your creativeness?
Benaras. I lived there and studied at IIT-BHU for 4 years. The town’s tradition and chaos has stayed with me. Everytime I am going again, I uncover one thing new about Benaras—a unique place or a brand new ritual that has been adopted for a whole lot of years. Three years in the past, on my final go to in October, I found a centuries-old travelling Ram Leela. It’s staged in several components of the town. As an illustration, the college gates of BHU are a stand-in for Lanka on this model. The town has many, many layers and the foremost one for me is meals. It is usually the very first thing I discover in anywhere I go to.
Internationally, Egypt fascinated me. The historical past in India typically dates again 500 or 700 years, in America it could be 200 years, however in Egypt it goes way back to 4,000 years. Generally our information would say stuff like, “That is actually new, it’s only 800 years outdated.” We noticed tombs, caves and the Valley of the Kings in Luxor. Egyptians are additionally fascinating storytellers. The nation was historically a well-liked cease on a number of historic commerce routes from Europe and Asia, so all people appears to be nonetheless promoting one thing, even when they’re tall tales. Everyone seems to be a kissago or daastango in Egypt, from the tongawaala and the taxiwaala to the shopkeeper.
What Egyptian meals did you relish?
I’ve had baklava in Turkey and Dubai, however the most effective and freshest is in Egypt. There’s a store in Cairo, near Tahrir Sq., known as Abdel Rahim Koueider. You enter the store and are transported 500 years into the previous. They make 70 kinds of baklava, with quirky names akin to “bulbul’s nest.” In Luxor, I additionally dined on fish that was freshly caught from the Nile and that was scrumptious.
Egypt’s completely roasted pistachio baklava with quirky names like bulbul’s nest (prime left) have a maintain on Grover’s coronary heart and abdomen; The Valley of the Kings in Luxor, Egypt (prime proper), captivated him for its millennia-old historical past; He found the draw of avenue meals in Singapore (backside proper) throughout a piece journey; A latest journey to the USA led him to identify seals (backside left) in San Diego. Photographs By: Oykuozgu/Shutterstock (baklava); Leonid Andronov/iStock/Getty photos (monument), T.Dallas/Shutterstock (avenue meals); Photograph Courtesy: Varun Grover (seals)
Going again to Benaras, do you suppose there is a component of fetishisation whereas writing about that metropolis?
Benaras has at all times been seen via the eyes of the white man. You want time to interrupt via the clichés that now we have been fed via this gaze. The town isn’t just concerning the solar rising on the ghats or a ship experience within the Ganga. It’s about small stuff just like the outdated haveli of Bhartendu Harishchandra, the daddy of Hindi literature, who wrote the primary Hindi play. No vacationer goes right here, despite the fact that the haveli has been restored and is in good situation. Within the outdated a part of city, there’s one other collector of outdated LP information from the 1930s and 1940s together with uncommon recordings of Begum Akhtar and people from the Benaras classical music gharana. The town has preserved this stuff. It’s a must to stroll round to find it. And you will need to additionally keep at the least 5 days. Once I went there six years in the past with my spouse Raj Kumari, and he or she was going for the primary time, she had solely two days. I attempted to point out her probably the most non-touristy aspect of Benaras, however she didn’t prefer it. She felt it was too soiled; she hoped for a higher metropolis. We went once more three years in the past for seven days. Then she additionally fell in love with the town.
What are your reminiscences of travelling as a toddler?
We used to reside in Dehradun, and my aunt lived in Calcutta. I went to the town for the primary time in 1989, after I was 9.We had a 30-hour prepare journey, which was actually epic and we stopped at so many new locations. I had by no means been out of north India. To see the vast, open rice fields of Bengal was one thing else. I tasted contemporary coconut water for the primary time in my life. Calcutta appeared like such an enormous metropolis. I nonetheless really feel Bombay will not be as large as Calcutta was in my creativeness at the moment. It stays certainly one of my prime three meals cities in India.
We used to additionally take frequent journeys round Dehradun. Sahastradhara, which had sulphur water springs, was a beautiful place the place we regularly took lots of our visiting members of the family.
Once you’re on tour, do you make time to discover a spot?
I at all times attempt to both go a day early, or wait an additional day, or as many days as I can handle. I discover a native—both a good friend, or somebody who has come to see the present—and exit with them. No journey is full with out strolling via a metropolis.
Considered one of Grover’s fondest childhood reminiscences is his journey to Calcutta—the primary large metropolis for a nine-year-old boy from Dehradun. It nonetheless is certainly one of his favorite cities in India. Photograph By: Radiokafka/Shutterstock
Household getaways for Grover additionally meant frequent journeys to the recent spring city of Sahastradhara, now an overcrowded spot. Photograph By: Mdsharma/Shutterstock
Is there a metropolis that you just found whereas touring?
I didn’t know a lot about Singapore and its meals tradition. I didn’t count on the entire metropolis to be one large khau galli. That was a tremendous discovery.
You’ve stated in a single interview that you just discovered Spain the least racist, and France probably the most intimidating place.
India operates on a lot chaos that order will be intimidating. France is simply too orderly… there are other ways to greet individuals within the morning and night. In case you don’t get it proper, individuals take offense or decide you. I’m positive it’s part of their tradition and so they discover some that means and pleasure in it, however Indians are usually not so formal. I don’t know whether or not it’s racist or my very own inferiority advanced in a really white nation however individuals judging you for an absence of manners will not be a pleasant expertise. Once I crossed over from France to Italy, however, I used to be delighted to see of us not obeying site visitors indicators.
Do you go to a particular place to write down?
I reside in Kandivali in Bombay, which is pretty peaceable. Generally I am going to this place in Uttaranchal known as Sonapani. It’s a homely resort close to Mukteshwar that I really like. I additionally like going to Goa as a result of I really like the ocean and seafood. Often, I discover a spot in south Goa, away from the bustle.
Mumbai (prime left), Sydney (prime proper), New York (backside left) and Spain (backside proper) are a few of Grover’s favoured journey spots. Photograph By: Tuul & Bruno Morandi/Photolibrary/Getty photos (Mumbai); Bezikus/Shutterstock (Spain); Andrew Watson/AWL Photographs/Getty photos (Sydney); Photograph Courtesy: Varun Grover (New York)
In Sacred Video games, there’s a robust sense of place. Was {that a} aware writing determination?
Our writers, each in season 1 and a couple of, needed to maintain it very genuine. We discovered that there was an anda bhurji stall close to Kyani Bakery that was standard. Bombay has these unusual issues—5 – 6 anda bhurji locations which have a cult following. These spots lend the town its character.
What are a few of your favorite journey books?
One is a Hindi guide, Volga Se Ganga, by Rahul Sankrityayan. He’s probably the greatest journey writers India has had. It’s fiction however rooted in journey, historical past and anthropology. This guide has impressed me to see the world.
One other fictional favorite is that this novel known as Netherland by Joseph O’Neill. It’s set in New York, and is a few bunch of Asians and a Trinidadian who play cricket in New York. Not too long ago I used to be in New York, and I noticed a bunch of individuals really enjoying cricket and I felt my journey had come full circle. The opposite guide I like to recommend is Kashi ka Assi by Kashi Nath Singh, a personality sketch of Benaras. I used to be residing in Benaras after I learn it and the guide has unlocked so many secrets and techniques concerning the metropolis for me.
In case you needed to give individuals one important journey tip, what would that be?
Keep away from touristy locations and also you’ll by no means be at a loss. Even when you say that you just went to Paris and didn’t see the Eiffel Tower, that’s tremendous. No matter you probably did as a substitute will certainly be higher.
As a songwriter, do you affiliate standard locations with songs?
Let’s see… To Benaras, I might dedicate “Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas,” for Lucknow “Ye Kya Jagah Hai Doston” from Umrao Jaan and for Bombay, this track known as “Zeher Hai Ke Pyaar Hai Tera Chumma,” from Sabse Bada Khiladi.
Dine on a breakfast of kachori, sabzi, jalebi at Chachi Ki Dukaan, reverse Ravidas Gate, Lanka (Chachi died on the age of 100 just a few years in the past, however her sons are nonetheless working the store).
Attempt the apple pie at Vatika Pizzeria in Assi Ghat. It’s a bizarre suggestion however you may be pleasantly stunned.
Among the finest lanes for sweets is Thatheri Bazaar forward of Chowk space (near Godouliya). The bazaar has outdated candy outlets and sells theatre props too.
Ramnagar Ki Lassi is super-famous and a must-visit. Ask anyone and they’ll direct you to the place; it’s alongside the highway from Ramnagar Fort foremost gate in the direction of the Ganga.
The rabri and lassi at Khandu Sardar, a small store on the finish of Thatheri Bazaar, subsequent to Gopal Mandir, is divine (Khandu Sardar, Nangu Sardar and Lussan Sardar had been the pioneers of milk-based sweets in Benaras).
Having studied in BHU for 4 years, Benaras is residence to Varun Grover, and his suggestions are ones that gained’t be present in common guidebooks. Photograph By: Lowpower225/Shutterstock
Raja Ram Lassi is the most effective lassi within the outdated metropolis. The store opens for less than 4 to 5 hours a day as they run out of curd shortly.
Pathakji Ki Thandai, additionally in Thatheri Bazaar, has the most effective thandai. Ask for the particular of the day, which is usually some seasonal fruit-based thandai. Bhang is free.
Style the murabba at Shreenath Murabba in Thatheri Bazaar. They even have murabba ready with bamboo shoots.
You will need to strive gulab jamun at this unnamed nook store proper reverse BSNL foremost gate, Lazarus Street, Varanasi Cantt Railway Station. The place serves scorching gulab jamuns with contemporary thick cream and an non-obligatory spicy masala on prime.
Have malpua at Shree Krishna Sweets in Maldahiya and kachoris in Loha Mandi.
For kheer kadam and rasgullas, go to Sudhir Sweets in Bengali Tola.
A typical Benaras snack is a dish made with toasted bread, coated with butter and spicy masala on prime, which you’ll have at Panditji Ka Slice, close to the turning off Lolark Kund.
For that quintessentially Benarasi litti, go to Loha Singh Ka Litti-Chokha in Maldahiya. He provides cashew to the litti, although littis are delicious even with out these add-ons.
(function(d, s, id) var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "http://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.5&appId=440470606060560"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); (document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

Eddie Jones may prove blessing in disguise for rugby
Social media, when Eddie Jones started coaching in the 1990s, meant a post-match beer with the bloke from the Sydney Morning Herald. Twitter was something that galahs did in the morning and when he graduated in 2001 to the position of Wallaby head coach precisely no one asked for a selfie. Phones were for talking to people, not pointing at celebrities. To get more sport news, you can visit shine news official website.  Fast forward to 2018 and the grim video snapshot of modern British life filmed in Manchester last Sunday. There is Jones, doing the decent thing and posing for a swift photo before heading to Old Trafford to meet up with Sir Alex Ferguson. And then, all of a sudden, there he is surrounded by four increasingly aggressive strangers, taunting him about England’s Calcutta Cup defeat. Regardless of your nationality or sporting preference, the footage makes depressing viewing.
Eddie Jones reveals he was abused by fans on train after England defeat Read more  No wonder Jones looked slightly shaken and Scottish Rugby reacted with such a swift, strongly worded statement. “Appalled” and “disgusting” featured high up, along with words of praise for the conduct of the England squad in defeat.  “The dignity Eddie and the England team showed on Saturday is in stark contrast to this ugly incident” was the generous conclusion. If ever there was an important time to extend the hand of fellowship across Hadrian’s Wall, this was it.  And just maybe, in the longer term, Jones’s brush with the less-than-fab four will prove a blessing in disguise if it shames those who previously imagined it acceptable to harass a 58-year-old man in a public place in broad daylight.
While Sunday’s unsavoury episode had its roots in sporting rivalry it should make everyone stop and reflect on what kind of society they want to live in.  To argue Jones was asking for trouble because he did not travel in first class is to miss the point spectacularly.  Clearly it could have been worse; thankfully he was not physically injured. The Australian was not being stalked by men with premeditated violence in mind. But we should all listen when Jones talks of not wishing to travel on public transport again and wonders aloud whether some of the jingoistic sentiment expressed in sections of the media before the Calcutta Cup fixture contributed to Sunday’s incident.
Is rugby union, among other sports, doing enough to prevent hatred and bigotry flourishing beneath the banner of tribalism? Or is sport simply a reflection – warts and all – of the wider world encircling it and undeserving of any special treatment?  Both are treacherous societal minefields. Nationalistic oval-ball friction, in particular, is far from a new phenomenon. The former England captain Will Carling has tweeted about being “spat on when I left Edinburgh after 1990” in the wake of another famous English defeat. Sir Clive Woodward made Douglas Jardine look positively popular by comparison in Australia 15 years ago, while Warren Gatland understandably took exception to some of the barbs dished out to him on last summer’s Lions tour.
