#the drug addict i was sorta seeing in college loved to tell me how useless my studies were #he tried to tell me no one uses python (he was not a comp sci major) and spanish is a useless language (he took *german*)#now i wish i had stuck with python. wasn't bc of him lmao it was bc the classes were all in the center of campus #and had no adjacent parking and i couldn't reliably make the walk from the parking garage bc of my hips #i was going to double major. alas. i still managed to do two minors (including spanish!!!! fuck u) and the honors program #but i am trying to get back into python now

anyways i have probably been accepted into one of the schools i applied to? which is pretty neat

#got accepted into this program for high-achieving underrepresented minorities who applied before oct 15 #which basically lets me talk to professors + administration + students at the school #and then will partially or fully fund a visit to the campus if i get in #and according to the school admission into the program =/= admission into the school #BUT from my digging online someone said everyone they talked to who got in the program also got in the school #and someone ELSE who had worked in the admissions office while they were in undergrad said that #admission to the program is basically admission to the school bc they don’t want to get people’s hopes up #boycritter et al

Anyway. I think I need to get back into regularly using the library in a HUGE massive never seen before way. Like I need to be making weekly trips like I used to as a child. I need to be placing holds like crazy I need to be using return dates as deadlines to finish books again

#we used to go as a family once a week until I got to high school actually #bc as an infant/toddler my mother would take me to the free programming all the time. and then we’d go once a week after school for so long #and then when I was ~12 we moved to the suburbs which made the trips unwalkable and slightly less frequent but not by that much #and then post Covid I think we kind of stopped going sigh…#and now we’re back in the city again but the nearest libraries aren’t all that walkable + my youngest sister uses her school library more #but I think for me personally it’s a good time to get back into it esp bc there’s a public library on the edge of campus/omw to my friend’s #house from campus so basically this is great I’m gonna be walking past it daily #.txt

As someone who is also a hater at heart.... check to see if your post secondary or your faculty has a published stance on AI, bc I reported several of my profs for violating AI usage rules in our arts department when I was still in university

bad news on this front, my college is actually among the most pro-ai universities in the united states. theres just not really anything i can do

#it started to be like this AFTER id already been attending. for the record. and not rlly my college specifically #more the CSU system as a whole is radically pro-ai #id honestly drop out about it but i love the program im in and its not really offered anywhere else. and i love the campus. ugh #askbox of inquiry

#wasn’t paying attention and got on the wrong bus leaving campus #but was too absorbed in an article I was reading to realize this until we passed under the freeway #so I got off and ended up walking a mile back from there to one of my usual bus routes #barely missed that bus and had to wait 10 minutes for the next one #but traffic was so backed up b/c it’s la at rush hour that I got off the bus 2 stops before my actual stop #and walked the rest of the way. decision to do so was validated by the fact that as I reached my apartment building the bus I got off of #was still stuck in traffic behind me #also amusingly not 15 minutes before I left campus I was chatting with a friend in the program who lives very close to me #and he was like ‘lately I’ve been walking to and from campus’ and I was like ‘isn’t that a very long walk?’#and his response was ‘yeah but the exercise is nice and at rush hour it’s not much slower than the bus’#just demonstrated that for myself lmao

#Robin processes emotions on main #so for my honors project I HAVE to print out copies of my poetry chapbook. and I HAVE to do it with the Official Campus Print System.#and the Official Campus Print System only prints things that are made using PROPRIETARY DESIGN SOFTWARE #that not ONLY would I have to pay multiple tens of dollars a month for #it isn't even compatible with my computer apparently.#WHAT IF I JUST DROPPED OUT OF THE HONORS PROGRAM RIGHT NOW. WHAT THEN. WHAT WOULD THEY DO ABOUT IT #SIIIIIIIIGH #I hate not knowing what I'm doing!!!#I don't usually get angry at anything but this is making me angry because it's so POINTLESS #just let me print my stupid poetry book in PEACE 😭 I'd even bind it myself if I had to!!!#I would actually be seriously considering dropping out of honors right now except for 3 things #1) I do want to finish writing this chapbook. I do want to physically produce it (though I'm frustrated with the requirements for that).#2) I'm working with my favorite professor on this project and I don't want to give up that experience #and 3) if I lost these 2 credits it would mean I'd have to take a whole nother semester of a summer class. and pay for it. yikes.

Me before my part time substitute teaching/glorified baby gig: I really hope I get the high schoolers and not the littles

After 1 English class on Romeo and Juliet and one general AP humanities class and being assigned a summer camp assistant counselor job for three afternoons: THANK GOD IM WATCHING FOUR-SIX YEAR OLDS!!!

#I am in no position to judge academic readiness as a sub (everyone has an Easy Backup Lesson on hand in case of a sub day #I had at least two variations #one for prepared absences (Rosh H and Yom Kippur) one just in case #my perspective on Kids These Days #are nuanced but I’ll just say I am genuinely kinda alarmed at the behavioral issues #ever seen the British show Adolescence? about that bad except I have even less control as a suv #the only way to get them to even take role is to be liked #the only way to be liked is to let them get away with everything #they can’t put their trash in the trash can #I am TOTALLY fine with them eating in class all they want #bc I n ow the school asked about peanut allergies or other concerns day 1 in the year #sure eat all all you want! drink at your desk! (just be careful not to spill anything on school computers but go ahead!)#but my god they LiTTER #kids should be allowed to go to the rest room as needed (though I do get nervous when they are gone too long not bc they don’t have the #right to use the restroom but I’m paranoid about safety and I don’t want them rubbing off campus and something f #happening #but they can’t take roll call #there is a kid named Isaiah in one class and another named Isiah #and another named Iziah #they both got their own last names mixed up when one was late and I was trying to mark one present and I asked his last name repeatedly #this 16 year old kept just saying *Iziah with a z*#I told him that unfortunately his name was misspelled on the roster as Isiah and I needed his last name to mark him present #I was apologetic about it like *im sorry it’s misspelled t #but he lit didn’t know his last name and couldn’t process why I was asking he’s 16-17 #they really really struggle to take attendance #I swear I’m not someone who is a hard nose esp as a sub and I grew up poor FirstG and these kids are more affluent than Title I but also #but not as rich as other schools in the same burb so no don’t come at me about inner city schools #they have a gifted program and tutoring and AP l #classes and I didn’t. also the fact I’d get the shit beaten out of me for acting like that and they probably don’t is an IMPROVEMENT in how #kids are raised so no I’m not saying things there aren’t better in many ways but the rudeness not so much to me but to each OTHER was wild

taking deep breaths bc I've been work crisis managing via phone email for the past 20 minutes and there's only so much I can do without my work docs or desk until Tuesday

#this would be better if I could lean on my boss for support but he has made it clear that he's not over the moon with my work #even though the two programs I've revitalized have double the attendance from last year and have thriving regulars #he latched onto my big ideas from September and asked why we didn't do them(the answer is bc he gave me Too Big of a job)#why are men who don't understand working with children constantly put in positions of authority over women who do the grunt work #Anyway. I'm frustrated my sister's kids had a musical the week before my biggest event of the year but I'm glad to be here #I'm just frustrated i can't be on campus managing the crisis especially after being sick for a month I lost so much time #shouting into the void here
