I think Astrid Hofferson has a bad case of the 'my childhood was wasted, I grew up too fast for something ultimately proven pointless.' Syndrome and that she deserves to get to do silly things she missed out on and take up new hobbies, even if she's not particularly good at them–it's purely for the experience yknow, and learn to finally breathe no longer needing to be on constant high alert and get to be truly happy

sometimes i think about people justifying aemond’s betrayal by saying that aegon is his bully.

ummmm…. so what.

yes, aegon’s behavior is cruel af. yes, his crude remarks are extremely harmful.

but this kind of behavior does indeed exist in a lot of sibling relationships. siblings can be fucking cruel to each other, they know each other’s sore spots, they know where to poke so it hurts.

actually, aegon was RIGHT to bully aemond’s ass in the brothel. after all, aemond was the one setting the events that lead to the murder of aegon’s child in motion. hell, i would have KICKED aemond’s sorry ass. repeatedly. especially since he never apologized to aegon.

sure, they should have talked about it — but that’s not their nature!!! they don’t talk about these things. they don’t talk about feelings. they HURT each other.

however, that is no reason to behave like an idiot who OPENLY sabotages their own family and hurts their cause (burns their king, almost kills one of their dragons etc. etc.)

now, that’s just dumbass, irrational, selfish behavior imo.

Say what you will about Martin's writing style (and I've said plenty) but I do think he's got the White Walkers' mythos worked out for a future book and IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO NICE IF THE SHOWRUNNERS HAD DONE 1/100TH OF THAT WORK SETTING THEM UP

I wanted to say, bc I saw someone mention Geralt as an example of a predetermined character in an rpg that works, that yeah, I fully agree it can work! But in Geralt's case, for example, he's a well established character who's fully written before you start the game. He has his own traits, his flaws and shortcomings, history, relationships, etc. He's just as well written as any other character in the story, and the only things you have power over are his choices and a bit of his fighting style(sometimes his hair as well), but everything is made to fit with who this character is as established before the game even starts. Think of the origin characters in Baldur's Gate 3, it's the same thing- they're not customizable, they're established before you even start, and the only control you have is over their journey. None of these are ever meant to be a blank slate, and they're written as such.

With this Phyre character it's like they're trying so so hard to tread the line between "this is a character that stands on their own" and "this is a blank slate you can fully customize". What you end up with is a very "meh" sort of character, who's not one or the other, without enough wiggle room to make your own story however you want and not enough to get attached to them as they are. We get attached to Geralt bc he's a fully written character in the game, you just control his actions. The problem with Phyre is that they're neither a fully written character nor fully yours to write.

feeling so self detested again because I drew a cat and now want to cry at how fast and comfortably and expressive I can draw animals versus human characters whom I really want to draw for traffic content but god fucking damn it it takes me 5 hours to draw one human sketch at best. I could whip out at least 5 dragons in that time this sucks. I just want to be good at this, I just want to be able to draw at anywhere near a decent pace that doesn't make me feel like I'm wasting all my free time achieving nothing

I've said this before but genuinely working with kids who love WOF for a solid 80% of my week for the past year/year and a half is what's actually killed my interest in WOF (tho I'm still here, obviously, and the ttrpg isn't going anywhere). Like,,,, idk man they have stickers on their water bottles of their fave guys and I think it's just made me detach a lot more from the rewriting I do bc as long as kids are having fun with it I kind of settle into a neutral tolerance instead of the like writing mania that this blog has operated on for the past,,,,,, jesus, it's been 8 years.
