#Can you tell I'm not well versed in smut on ao3 yet

Tagging help for smut on AO3 🥲

As someone very new to smut, has it always been etiquette to comment on fics and let authors know they've incorrectly tagged who the bottom is when other tags are context clues as to what's going on?

Like if someone is getting penetrated, do they need to be tagged bottom(character) regardless of whether they're Dom or Sub? 🤨

I'm at a loss because I don't have a lot of Ao3 tagging etiquette when it comes to smut, but my reasoning was "this person is Dom, is getting penetrated but the Sub isn't allowed to come until they've switched" so the whole bottom thing felt unusual in this scenario, but two different people have told me that I need to tag the Dom character as bottom too? 🤨

Is this a Call of Duty Fandom thing or is it just me who has vastly misunderstood etiquette?? 🥴

3. what fandoms do you write for?

My fic-writing impulses come along like cicada seasons, except without any regularity whatsoever: I do a lot of dabbling in a lot of fandoms, I can never really tell if something's going to light my brain on fire. Most of my fic output came from Yuletide for a long while (I loved the grab bag aspect and writing little treats for small fandoms, but then my holidays got busier), and then Yuri on Ice and MDZS were my biggest fandoms by far, especially MDZS. I've written Yuwu recently, and I'd love to write some Trigun, LoZ, or Mysterious Lotus Casebook one of these days.

5. do you respond to comments?

I usually don't unless it's a request or a question, but I read and treasure every one.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I am too tender for Bad Endings for the most part, but my canon-verse Nie Huaisang fic after me comes the flood does not end in a particularly good place for anyone involved. (But even then, we know it gets better for him eventually... albeit at the expense of several bystanders)

7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I tend to write pretty gentle, occasionally LIGHTLY bittersweet happy endings (that's the cafecliche guarantee baby) but part of me wants to say 'the only way out' (and probably 'the yunmeng accords' series in general) here. I tend to write fic when I want to play around with the emotions or relationship dynamics that can already be found in canon, so 'the yunmeng accords' is probably as close to a fix-it as I'm going to get.

8. do you get hate on fics?

Not usually! I was part of the Great MDZS Anon Hate Train of 2021, but that was the worst I've ever gotten by several magnitudes - the vast majority of commenters are fabulous.

9. do you write smut?

Not yet! It's not off the table, though.

10. do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you have written?

I actually don't think I've ever written a crossover! The closest I've ever gotten was when I look over my shoulder, but even that's 'Wangxian in a Conjuring-esque ghosthunters in love situation' and not really a formal Conjuring AU.

11. have you ever had a fic stolen?

I've had plagiarism brought to my attention a couple times, but truly just a handful. I still remember getting a message on FF.net that someone had ripped off a line from my Black Lagoon fic. The SCANDAL of it all.

12. have you ever had a fic translated?

MDZS is the first fandom where I've gotten translation requests, which is always so cool! To my knowledge, I've had fics translated into Russian, Spanish, and Ukranian.

13. have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, but brainstorming fic concepts with my brilliant friends is one of my favorite thing in the world.

14. what's your all time favorite ship?

omg ever? Well Victuuri and Wangxian have been the ones that really lit my brain on fire (if I own the Nendos, it's serious) but let me also throw it back to Fakir and Ahiru in Princess Tutu. That is ROMANCE.

15. what is a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I would have really liked to have one more entry to 'the yunmeng accords!' I had a couple of ideas that I really liked, but nothing that caught fire quite enough to dive into it. That said, I am currently working on something short and Yunmeng Shuangjie-related, at the very least...

16. what are your writing strengths?

Emotional through-lines, pacing, and that sweet, sweet catharsis. I'm drawn to particular fandoms when they leave me with an emotion that I need to break down over the course of several thousand words, and I know that shows through in my writing.

17. what are your writing weaknesses?

Choreography! I'm not a very visual thinker, so sometimes it takes me a while just to figure out how to block the characters in a given scene. I also have a lot of trouble getting into a draft until I figure out the voice, which, when it comes to fanfic, will either come to me extremely easily or not at all.

18. thoughts of writing dialogue in another language in fics?

Yeah, absolutely! (But if you don't speak the language, do your research!)

19. first fandom you wrote for?

[rubs my temples] an X-Men crackfic.

20. favorite fic you have written?

Oh my god. WELL. 'grow' and 'the only way out' I think are the best fics I've written, and 'when I look over my shoulder' and 'the soft animal' are also extremely close to my heart. But 'detente' might be the favorite child. It just gushed out of me.

What Am I Writing These Days? #3

It's been waaaay too long since I last did one of these. To be fair, I spent most of this year writing one story in particular(which you find [url=https://archiveofourown.org/works/48347773]here[/url]) so there haven't been a lot of new ideas coming in.

I have been very slowly adding on to Storm Kids; it's not as interesting as it was four years ago when I started it! I updated with a new chapter on AO3 recently though, and I know where I'm going with it. I'll finish! I will!

Updates are also incoming for Moon Age, I swear, but I don't think I can muster a lot of energy for DBZ after I spent so many months writing for the Big Bang. It's still an AU I love a lot.

I've been writing a lot of Kamen Rider fic, but basically none of it is presentable... I'm deeply grateful to everyone who reads and leaves kudos on my Goto/Eiji fic, y'all make me feel more confident! At the moment I'm doing pre-work for some post-canon OOO fic, in the form of simple character interactions. I'm determined to write something about Izumi Shingo, but his character moments are countable on one hand so I'm kinda winging it(pun intended). My main goals writing OOO fic is to explore Eiji living without Ankh, as I've noticed a lack of that in fandom. I want the OOO family to grieve but also live, and to show how Ankh touched all of their lives.

I've been writing self-indulgent Zero-One fic in the form of FuwaHiden domestic fluff. Whenever I write something and it's not presentable, I just tell myself it's training. I think my feelings about Hibiki are gonna force me to write post-canon fic for that as well(whyyy is everything going so wrooong??).

I've been asked(By Anthony DP Mann) to write something about Takeshi Hongo. I have a few ideas bouncing around in my head now that I've seen Shin Kamen Rider and more episodes of the old show(thank you Keelin for the livestream back in May). At the moment I have: A dialogue prompt that seems to only lead to smut("Can you feel this?") and a couple of ideas stemming from fanart I saw(70s Riders meet their Shin counterparts and some bug love bites). I've also been pitched a western-esque story about an aging Hongo looking for a meaningful end, but I'd rather hand that off to someone who knows him better. In general, I just don't think I know Mr Hongo well enough to write him yet.

Something that's going well(almost too well) is my Stray Kids Power Rangers AU. It's made for a surprisingly fun sandbox to try a lot of my ideas, but it's also a little hard to focus. I've started sharing the story with some friends via email, as I don't intend to put it up on A03 until I finish Storm Kids. Another unintended consequence of creating a tokusatsu-verse is that I'm now determined to make Monsta X into Kamen Riders. For both of those I still have a lot of development work to do(designing costumes and weapons, creating catchphrases, poses and special moves, etc.) but like. It's so fun.

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Yes! I appreciate the time and effort people put into writing a comment, even if it's a short one, and I'm grateful for them. I love getting replies to my comments so I try to do the same for others.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

None (at least when we're talking about the Jonerys fics and I refuse to mention any others ><). The way s8 ended is the entire reason I'm writing. I needed a happy ending for them.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

All of them are happy, really. The fluffiest endings go to JLM, Airspace, TFZ, and Starstruck.

Do you write crossovers? If yes, what’s the craziest thing you’ve written?

I don't feel well-versed enough in another fandom to write crossovers, although I would like to. I did write a The Big Bang Theory remix.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Nope. Got a few negative comments but nothing that constitutes hate. I ignore trolls and they ignore me 😁

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Yeppers! I'm proud to say all my multi-chapters have smut in them 🤣. I tend to lean towards the tamer end, but it is mostly quite explicit.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope. Got a few requests from people who wanted to translate two of my fics to Chinese but I don't think any of them went through with it.

Have you ever co-written a fic?

Not yet. Maybe someday. I'm a control-freak, I don't know how fun I'll be to write with 😅

I don't think I can rate them. I'm all about Jonerys right now.

What’s a WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I don't think I have one. I've had a few ideas that I started and never continued but I don't consider them WIPs. More like ideas that I wrote down. I never post a story if I'm not reasonably sure I can finish it in good time.

What are your writing strengths?

Good question, I'm not really sure! If anyone knows, go ahead and tell me 🤣 Banter tends to be easier for me to write.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I hate writing scenes with multiple characters, it's messy and confusing. Whenever more than 3 characters gather in any of my scenes, one of them suddenly has to run to the bathroom 😂 Otherwise, I'm not sure. Some things don't come easy, but I see them more as challenges than weaknesses (I sound like some sort of a motivational speaker here 😅 but I think writing is a learning process).

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in fic?

Strange question. If there's a plot reason for it, sure, why not. I don't think the reader has to understand every single word if there's a reason not to (for example, if the characters are listening to something in a different language and they don't understand a word, makes sense the reader wouldn't either). That said, too long paragraphs that the reader can't, well, READ, will probably make most people skip them.

So Part 10 of my Semisonic Sunset Verse will be up soon, and this will be the last instalment.

I have LOVED writing this verse, it has gotten me to stretch my writing wings so much, and it has been an absolute joy bringing you each new part.

But I think I've told all the stories I want to tell in this particular verse, and I promise I have left the three of them in a good and happy place, full of love and music.

I still love this OT3, I am definitely not done writing for them yet, and I am sure I have more E rated works featuring them in my future as well if you're here for the smut. But this verse is done, and I'm okay with that, I hope you can be too.

If you ever want to come talk to me about this verse, or anything really, my ask box is always open, and I am open to prompts for stories for this or most other JatP pairings. I'm not going anywhere.

WHAT is the Winterfest?

The basic version: it's like secret santa, kris kringle, secret friend - except with fanworks.

You fill out a form where you describe what you want to see or create - everyone in the rote verse getting therapy? A groundhog day of Galen getting his ass kicked? Endless angst and suffering? Every request gets matched to an offer to find a pot for every kettle!

WHEN is the Winterfest?

Sign Ups, aka filling out those requests and offer forms, start in one week on Friday, 16 18 October 2020 and close on 6 8 November 2020.

Within the next 2 days, you will receive your target!

From then on, you will have almost 2 months to work on your piece until the Gifting Day on 1 January 2021. I hope that this will provide enough time, even if you too find the FitzChivalry fatal flaw of procrastination overly relatable.

WHERE is the Winterfest?

Both Sign Up Forms and gifts have to be posted on AO3. This is both to avoid any possible legal issues as well as to make organising easier. But you can still post your work wherever else you'd like!

All of the gifts will also be either reblogged or linked to on this blog within a week after posting under the tag #winterfest2020, unless you veto it.

A pinch hitter is someone who agrees to pitch in and create a(n extra) fanwork if the giver ends up unable to create a gift for any reason. It's possible to only sign up as a pinch hitter or to offer to become a pinch hitter on top of the usual sign up. Pinch hitters don't receive (extra) gifts for their trouble - apart from being very much appreciated!🪐
