let me come home: two.
Tumblr media
Summary: After years at a dead-end job shouldering everyone’s expectations for you but your own, you’re finally free to be whoever you want, go wherever you want. That is, until a series of unfortunate events strand you in Amber’s End, where the sheriff – and notoriously unmated pack alpha – decides to take you in.
Pairings: alpha!Steve Rogers x omega!Reader; side alpha!Bucky Barnes x beta!Sam Wilson
Notes: Wowowow - I don’t even want to count how many months it’s been, but we are finally back in business! I can’t thank you all enough for the love you showed on the first chapter of this and I am beyond excited to share this and hear what you think. Big reminder from the last chapter that parts one and two are all about setting the stage for Steve and our lovely reader. So,  this is more or less 5k of more background. But, I really loved introducing Bucky, Sam, and Nat (Bucky especially because he’s going to be huge here!) and hope you enjoy them too. Especially my Heat Wave readers - mechanic!Bucky returns! And I promise parts three and four will be extra juicy to make up for it. Divider credit goes to @writeyourmindaway!
Chapter warnings: Werewolf AU, A/B/O dynamics, incredibly basic knowledge of cars that is probably incorrect

The drive to Steve’s home is short: five minutes from the diner to the base of a wooded hill, another ten to reach the peak. You follow him up a slanted stretch of road with eyes trained on his tail lights, but there are moments when your gaze strays. Sunset lingers on either side of you, framing the forest in a pretty glow. The blend of deep orange and soft pink is hard to look away from, even when you know you should be focused elsewhere, and you make your way to the top in that dizzying in-between.
When you finally come to a stop, it’s on a patch of paved road - a welcome change to the gravel before it - in front of a large wooden cabin. Behind you, the town’s spread out in a panorama, spanning for what feels like an eternity. You can see everything from here: the humble spread of Main Street; the blues and greens of the Hummingbird; and finally, the mountains, majestic and steady beyond that.
It’s the perfect place for the pack’s alpha to be and, coincidentally, has been the home of Rogers alphas for three generations now.
That lived in feel is the first thing you notice when you make it inside. The structure is sturdy, hasn’t so much as gnarled over the years. The decor, on the other hand, is dated. Doilies on some surfaces and beer coasters on others, there are hints of Steve and the alphas who came before him throughout. Still, it’s cozy, and you say as much in an appreciative hum as you pull your bag off your shoulder.
The first floor is all open space, and you can see most of it from your spot in the foyer. It doesn’t take long for Steve to situate you - sitting room, kitchen, bathroom, and master bedroom — before leading you towards the stairs. The walls along the staircase are full of memory; pictures of him and his loved ones that catch your eye as you ascend. You don’t have time to linger now, but make a point to look them over before you go. He’s piqued your interest too much not to be a little nosy.
The second floor, on the other hand, isn’t nearly as wide as the first. There are three doors in the whole hallway, two on either side with the third directly in front of you. He identifies each as the guest room, the storage room, and a study in that order, though he’s careful to call out that no one’s used the study in a long time.
There’s a story there, you’re sure, but any interest in it leaves when Steve presses the guest bedroom door open. The bed inside is too big for the room, one side even touching the walls. And like the rest of the house, it’s decorated in a way that reminds you of your grandmother; a quaintness that’s endearing on a man like Steve. But, as out of place as things might be, there’s an undeniable comfort walking into that room. Steve smiles when he smells it on you -- that cinnamon-sweet rise of contentment as you sink down on the bed at his behest.
“It’s a short tour,” he admits, leaning against the doorjamb, “but this is about it. You’re welcome to anything in the kitchen if you get hungry again tonight or before you go tomorrow. I’m usually up early, so in case I don’t see you, enjoy the rest of your trip. Take care of yourself.”
It’s new to you, how easily people can offer such genuine acts of care. He hardly knows you, yet there’s no doubt that he means what he says. The thought of it makes you return that thoughtful smile. “Thank you, Steve - you’re seriously a lifesaver.”
With a final smile, he leaves you to it, shutting the door behind him.
At the click, you settle further into the bed, toeing your shoes off and sifting through your bag for house clothes and a towel. Your travels so far have been an adventure, to say the least. Just a few months ago, you’d been working a stressful entry-level job on Wall Street. Pressed skirts, sharp teeth, the days were full of routine, but not the kind that’s pleasant. Everything was uncertainty and fleeting gratification as you competed, day after day, for a seat at the table.
Add to that the constant nagging from your family to find a mate  — the endless string of blind dates, the passive-aggressive mentions of other friends’ announcements; it’s a wonder you’d endured it all as long as you had.
The decision to quit had been a long time coming. The decision to leave was a whim - the first you’d had in a long time. It was freeing to even be able to make the choice and the lack of commitment only grew more intoxicating from there. You feel freer, less suffocated, and so does your wolf  — it’s a change you’d desperately needed.
That feeling is what follows you into the shower as you wash away the day, and back to bed in your loose pjs. As you settle in, you have to stop yourself from sighing out loud. The mattress is as tender as a cloud, molding to your body at every point, and after weeks of motel beds (and the back of your Jeep), you fall headfirst into that comfort. Sleep comes fast and stays put.
                                                       ----
When you wake in the morning, the world is quiet. It’s a long way from New York’s chaos and you bask in it, eagerly at that. The sun filtering in through the window above you leaves kaleidoscope patterns on the sheets. Your hand moves to trace them for a bit, thumb to fractured color, until you’re awake enough to focus your ear to the house.
Like outside, Steve’s cabin is tranquil, not even a hint of the alpha’s presence. Given his warning the night before, it isn’t surprising, but you’re still a little disappointed. You’d hoped to repay him for his kindness somehow — maybe with breakfast, or whatever change you could spare. But, you’ll settle for what you can get: you make a mental note to try and catch him at his office before you leave town.
Weeks on the road have made your morning routine as efficient as it gets. So once you’re completely up, you’re out the door not long after, a slice of buttered toast between your teeth to get your system going. You find your car where you left it at the end of Steve’s drive and you approach with a bounce in your step, all thanks to the night of comfortable sleep.
Maybe you ought to grab Steve a fruit basket before you stop by.
You’re racking your memory of Main Street for bakeries or something close when you settle into the driver’s seat. But, gratitude towards Steve quickly becomes the last thing on your mind when you try to start your Jeep and get nothing but a grinding sound. It isn’t promising, but you try it again, only to get even less response before the car dies altogether.
You groan out loud, head dropping to the steering wheel while your shoulders sink in defeat. It was inevitable, really - it’s been years since you inherited the car from your older sister and it was only through a slew of band-aid fixes that it made it this far.
Still, the timing can’t be any worse; you don’t have a schedule to meet, but it isn’t much of a road trip if you can’t make it on the road. You fish your cell out of your jacket pocket, hoping that your service has somehow improved between last night and this morning. But, you only have a couple bars - finicky connection at best - so, you head back into Steve’s home where you’re certain you’d noticed a landline.
When you find it, you also come across a phone book --- not the newest edition, but recent enough. The list of mechanics in the area isn’t long, so you thumb in the first number you see. The phone rings only twice before someone picks up.
“Barnes Garage?”
“Hi,” you start, perking up at the quick answer, “I just tried to start my car and it’s not working. It made this weird sound at first, then when I tried again, it just died.”
The man on the other end hums and you can hear paper rustling in the background like he’s taking notes. “Alright, we can send someone out right now to tow you in and take a look - what’s your address?”
“I don’t...actually know,” you admit, face hot from embarrassment when he goes silent. You must sound ridiculous. “I’m not from around here, so I’m just staying with someone. I’m not sure about the address.”
A chuckle rises from him that eases your shame just a bit. “Alrighty. Well, it’s a small town  — tell me who you’re stayin’ with and I’m sure between the three of us here, we’ll know where to find ‘em.”
There’s a part of you that’s skeptical of that; but for a town so small and a pack so close-knit, maybe it’s possible. “Uh, sure. I stayed with Steve Rogers  — the sheriff?”
The line goes silent again, this time so prolonged you think the call dropped. Then, the mechanic speaks up and you can almost swear he’s smiling. “No shit. I know exactly where that is, I can be there in fifteen? Maybe twenty? That work for you?”
“Well, I won’t be going anywhere, so that works perfectly.”
                                                        ----
The mechanic manages the trip in ten, when you glance out the window at the sound of an engine to see a dark blue tow truck stalking up Steve’s driveway. You come out to greet it just as the man driving climbs out and nearly gasp. He’s as handsome as Steve had been: piercing blue eyes, an angled, stubble-lined face, and deep brown hair gathered at his nape. There’s something familiar about him you can’t seem to place, but it’s out of sight and out of mind when he closes the distance with a wide smile. “Well, hi there -- ‘m Bucky. Spoke to you on the phone.” You give him your name, to which he nods. “So, I’ll get your car down to the shop and we’ll take a look, see if we can’t fix you up today. You wanna come with me, or you staying at Stevi -- uh, Steve’s for the day?”
You shake your head . “Nah, I can come with - I was planning to head out of town today anyway, so I’m hoping I can just head out from your garage.”
“Hop on in then.”
The ride with Bucky is surprisingly warm. He’s not exactly talkative, but he’s engaging; asking questions where he needs to, humming out his interest when he doesn’t. You get so settled into the flow of quiet radio and chatter that you don’t realize you’ve made it to his shop until the truck comes to a full stop.
Barnes Garage sits at the corner of some of Amber’s End’s quieter streets. The large lot outside has a few cars parked with a path between them for new ones to be driven into the workshop. Bucky’s pulled your Jeep right into that path, though he’s stopped halfway between the curb and the garage building. “It’ll take me maybe a half hour to really dig in --- you can stick around or explore, it’s up to you, but I’ll let you out here.”
You climb out with a nod, thanking him before nodding towards the streets behind you. “I’ll probably head out - grab a few more things before I go. See you in thirty?”
For the second time in as many days, you’re exploring Main Street, this time with an eye out for the stores you didn’t visit the day before. There aren’t many, to be frank, so after the first few, you take to stopping in on some of the people you’ve met already. They seem surprised to see you again, but take advantage of your presence to tell you more about themselves, the town, their wares.
You realize quickly that none of the stories about Amber’s End really do it justice. It’s quainter than what you’re used to, sure, but there’s so much history there. It’s romantic almost - like the first turn of an old book or light filtering into a tea shop.
You think you’ll miss it when you leave, even if just for a little while.
When you get back to the shop, you’re a few souvenirs richer and have something nice to give Steve on your way out of town as well. Bucky is sitting at a computer - the model recognizably old but reliable like the rest of the town. He perks up at the sight of you, already waving before you make it all the way in the door and pull your scarf from around your face. “So,” he starts, walking to your car with a hand under his chin. “I’ve got good news and I’ve got bad news.”
You grimace. “Ok --- good news first.”
“Well, I know what’s wrong with the car. The starter motor,” he taps a finger on the hood over the spot where the part lives, “is out. Completely done. But, we can get a part delivered here to get you back on the road.”
“Okay,” you eye him suspiciously. “Then, what’s the bad news?”
“Lookin’ at the places we get our parts from, they’re all outta stock for the model you’ve got. The soonest the part could be here is in a month, and even that might be generous with all the storms lately.” As if pre-empting your shock, he hands over an invoice to confirm it.
Seeing it written out, plain as day, makes you grimace. Staying anywhere for a whole month (or more) had never been in the cards; but, there’s no way you can afford a new car either - you were just barely making it through with the money you’ve budgeted as is. You take a long, hard look at the estimate Bucky’s handed you before taking a deep breath to gather your thoughts. “Okay,” you start slowly, “so how does this work? If I decide to wait for the part.”
He gestures to the door behind you that leads to the lot from earlier. “We have a reserve lot - it’s where we keep all the cars that are waiting on a part for service. I’d keep your car here - free of charge - until the part comes, then we fix ‘er up. You’d pay for the part now and the fix later, when we call you to make sure it all looks good.”
You nod, glancing up from the sheet briefly before looking back at the part expense. It isn’t bad in the grand scheme of things - certainly cheaper than a used car that’ll just give up on you in a few months anyway. But, it will be a good chunk of what you’d set aside for your trip and if you’re staying put for the month, there’s no way you can afford to do it without really settling in. Job and all. “Okay - let’s do it.”
“Sounds good.” Bucky’s eyes are full of sympathy as he watches you; from what little you’d told him in the ride over, being stuck in one place is the last thing you wanted right now. “You want me to get you to Steve? He’ll have some good ideas for what you can do next.”
The nervous knots that’ve been building since the conversation started uncoil some at the mention of the other Alpha, though you try your best to ignore it with another nod to Bucky. “That would be great.”
                                                       ----
The sheriff’s station is small but busy when you walk in. Bucky trails ahead of you, walking with purpose that surprises you. At first, you chalk it up to the town being so small  — maybe there’s an open door policy for the residents. But, then you notice the way deputies and junior deputies let him by without even batting an eye. The ones who do simply nod, offering a smile while Bucky walks right past them and reception into Steve’s open office door.
“Buck?” You can hear ahead of him. “What are you doing here..?” It dawns on you then that they must know each other; intimately, judging by the nickname and the pure ease that Bucky has as he maneuvers the station.
You hesitate to interrupt their moment, but Bucky’s response to Steve’s question is to angle himself so you can be seen from behind him. That’s when Steve notices you and you wave with a sheepish smile. “He brought me, actually - my car’s broken down and I don’t think I’ll be able to leave for a bit. I wanted to make sure you knew before you came home and found me still there…”
Your presence brings Steve to his feet and you notice that he’s in his sheriff’s uniform for the first time. Somehow, he seems more comfortable in it than the casual wear you’ve seen him in so far, but there’s no denying that he looks just as good. “Hey -- you don’t have to worry about that, I wouldn’t just kick you out. I’m sorry to hear about the car, though - anything I can do to help?”
“Unless there’s a way the local sheriff’s office can put a little muscle on an auto-parts dealer,” you tease, drawing a snort from Bucky beside you, “I think I’m okay. I’m hoping we can talk more about where I should stay when you get back, though?”
“Sounds good to me.”
With your big news out in the open, you turn on your heel to leave, but pause as another thought strikes you. “Actually, one thing I could use some help with: know of anyone hiring?”
Steve’s face turns pensively and you can see his mind working for an answer. “Not that I can think of, no…,” he offers, a little remorse in his tone, “but you know what? Most places are willin’ if you know who to talk to. How about Bucky take you around? See what you find?”
After giving his instructions to a suspiciously enthusiastic Bucky, Steve turns his attention back to you. You expect to see pity, but there’s nothing there but genuine concern. You feel a little warmth from it, like you’re protected just by standing in front of him, and wonder if this is how everyone in his pack must feel. “I’ll be back late today, so you can feel free to eat without me. Bucky will take care of you until then and help you talk to some folks about a job. You call me if you need me.” He brandishes a business card from a holder on his desk and pencils his cell number on the back before handing it over. “If you’re still awake when I get in, we can talk about your living situation. Otherwise, settle in for one more night and we’ll talk in the morning.”
                                                       ----
Over the rest of the day, Bucky takes you to a few shops with vacancies: pharmacy, market, the doctor’s office. Nothing seems to strike a chord for you, though, and you start to grow dejected, anticipating yet another job you have to work  out of necessity.
Then, Bucky pulls into the gravel lot of a tavern.
Widow’s Den is the name carved in large wooden blocks over the front door, and despite the afternoon hour, there are a few cars parked in front of it. When you duck inside, a group of older men and women sit, talking over beers.
A tall, broad man is working the bar, his laughter booming over a pop song you haven’t heard in years. Beside you, Bucky beams, scent thickening at the sight, and you realize quickly that this must be the person behind the ring on his left hand and the soft pink mark on the right side of his neck. His mate. It’s adorable to see — this charismatic alpha unraveled at one glimpse of the man he loves.
“Babe,” Bucky chimes for the bartender’s attention as you approach the bartop. Not that he needs to, though; it’s obvious in the way his scent spikes that he’s long since noticed Bucky’s presence and you nearly coo at that too. “Nat in the back?”
“Yeah,” he responds, not looking your way yet as he finishes pouring a drink. “Doing inventory, I think.” Once the drink’s delivered, he offers his full attention and that’s when he notices you. “Who’s this?”
Bucky grins, smile taking on a boyish quality as he slings an arm around your shoulders. “New girl, looking for a job. Her car’s in the shop with me now, so she’s staying with our lovely sheriff until it gets fixed up.”
The bartender’s intrigue is immediate, eyes widening before he grins slyly — as if privy to a secret you’re not — and folds arms over his chest. The pose accentuates the corded muscle along his arms and chest and you have to stop yourself from sighing. Is there anyone in this town that isn’t woefully in shape? “You’re kiddin'. With Steve?” You have more questions than you know what to do with, but there’s no time to think about asking one when his hand is thrust your way. “Well, then, nice to meet you, girlie. I’m Sam.”
The smile he offers you is welcoming, and you forget about the odd focus on your staying with Steve (it isn’t even official yet!) to accept his hand. When you share your name in return, the smile widens and he tips his head towards the stretch of hallway by the other end of the bar. “Head on back to talk to Nat -- Bucky can show you the way.”
The brunet rests a hand to your back, pausing only to give Sam a quick kiss over the bar before he takes you towards the back hallway. The vibe in this half of the building is noticeably different. Homey, like the staircase at Steve’s cabin. You recognize many of the same faces in these pictures as the ones back at Steve’s. Bucky’s against Sam’s shoulder, Steve head and shoulders over the rest. There are a few where he’s even bare faced, looking eons younger than he does now, but not a smidgen less intense, and you work out easily that they’ve all been friends for some time, maybe even since puphood.
It’s admirable to you, maybe even enviable too. You have friends from that age as well, but the unforgiving pace of city life had made it hard to stay close. The smiles in the bar’s pictures, in comparison, speak to nothing but growing bonds, year after year.
You can’t help but smile too.
“This way.” Bucky’s voice brings you out of your thoughts and into a half-cracked doorway. The room is cluttered, stacked with boxes and bottles. And in the center of the chaos is a woman with striking red hair, pulled up and out of her face. Her aura holds a candle to Steve’s; far-reaching, imposing, and immediate. There’s no mistaking her as anything but an Alpha, and when her eyes leave the clipboard she’s holding to focus on you instead, you struggle against the instinctive need to bow into yourself. But, years of Wall Street’s brutal pace (that cares very little for rank) steel you. You see something akin to amusement flash in her eyes when you meet her gaze head-on.
“What did I tell you about bringing in strays, James?” Her tone is level, but the words have no real bite. You look up at Bucky warily still, who reassures you with a little smile.
“This one’s not a stray --- not really, anyway.” He loops an arm around your shoulder again and you can tell the familiarity intrigues Nat. “She’s new in town - staying for a month or two until I can get her car squared up, so we’re hopin’ to find her a place to work.”
“Just a couple? That’s not a long time --- I mean, by the time you get settled in, you’re gonna be out of here.” A valid concern; one that the other shop owners had shared when Bucky told them your predicament. There isn’t much you can say to ease the worry, but it turns out you don’t have to. Nat turns the rest of the way to set her scrutinizing gaze on you properly and the look compels you to stay put; almost as if you’re presenting yourself to her. A stretch of silence sets in and the longer it goes, the more convinced you are that she’s about to reject you outright. Then, she clicks her tongue. “Hm. We don’t need much right now, but I could throw you a couple bucks if you want to help us bus tables or something. This is the only spot to really drink in town, so we could always use the help on busy nights.”
You’re so relieved you could kiss her, but you don’t need superhuman instinct to know that would not go well. You settle instead for a wide smile, the sort that’s contagious to the Alphas in the room who start beaming with you. “That would work for me!”
“Good,” she grins, setting her clipboard aside to cross her arms, “now to celebrate our new arrival.”
                                                       ----
You spend the rest of the day at Widow’s Den, getting to know Sam, Bucky, and Natasha over glasses of their best liquor. They confirm your suspicion that they’ve known each other for some time: Steve and Bucky are lifelong friends, brought together by a schoolyard fight started by a Steve who wasn’t even half the other boys’ heights. Meanwhile, Sam and Natasha came into the fray during high school years, transfers from their deep South and Russian hometowns respectively. But, they folded into the fabric of the boyhood duo easily and had been a foursome ever since.
You still don’t know where Sam and Bucky’s relationship turned romantic, but there’s an ease there that makes you guess it has been a while. Natasha, like you, is unmarked, but it’s rare for Alphas to do that anyway. You’re curious to learn more about her in particular.
As time moves on, the bar fills more and more and you get a glimpse of what your life will be like for the next few weeks. The crowd is certainly diverse - people of all ages filing in with friends or on their own. In an odd way, there’s two bars existing in one - young and old, energetic chatter and introspective talk.
By the time you leave, you’re a little tipsy and Bucky guides you out with a hand on your back. So far, you haven’t come across any other omega in their circle, and you wonder if his constant touch is a result of that instinct to protect you. The conversation on the ride back to Steve’s flows more freely now that you’ve spent so much time together and when he drops you off, he surprises you with an offer for a hug. When he glimpses that surprise, he laughs. “None of that now - you’ll be seeing a lot of me from now on, so we’re friends, sweetheart.”
You laugh and step into his arms - you suppose he’s right.
                                                       ----
It’s near one in the morning when Steve finally comes home. His midnight patrol had been as uneventful as usual ---- a blessing, he thinks, considering how distracted he’d been during the run. His wolf is restless, agitated by the thought of this new omega being around longer than expected. He found his thoughts trailing to her during his time in the woods, particularly as he passed the quarry he’d found her in, and there was an eagerness to find out how the rest of the day with Bucky had gone.
He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t a little nervous. His friend, dear as he is, can be a handful, even for him.
When he comes in, he’s shocked to find you still awake in the living room, a mug of what smells like herbal tea in your hand as you flip through a book from his shelf. You look up at him from the book, a dopey smile to your face, and that’s when the other, underlying smell on you hits. Alcohol --- something woody that’s familiar. He guesses Bucky must’ve taken you to Widow’s Den, which would explain why you’re still up at this time.
“Hey,” he speaks up, nodding at you, “couldn’t sleep?”
You shake your head, book forgotten as you cradle your tea with your other hand. “It’s been a busy night - still a bit wired!”
Fair, he thinks. “Tell me about it - did it go well with Buck?”
You start to ramble about the day - the places you tried, the time at Widow’s Den, the offer from Nat you ultimately accepted. He tries not to tense too visibly, but he can’t hide the way his scent sharpens the way it often does when an Alpha is on edge. He can see the impact it has on you instantly; the way your excitement slows and your eyes dart to try and pick out what caused it.
He reassures you - or does his best to - with a smile, urging you on. He won’t explain this yet, but the crowd at Widow’s Den can be rowdy when they want to be, especially when they’re from out of town. Nat and Sam will show you the ropes --- and step in where they have to --- so you’ll be in good hands; but he wouldn’t be Steve if he didn’t worry. You’re the newest wolf in town now --- a part of his pack, even if just for a short while.
When you’re done recapping the day, his smile grows, the gesture deliberately wide to make up for his worry catching you off-guard. “Well, I’m glad to hear it went well - Nat and Sam are good people, they’ll take care of you.”
“I believe it.” You pause, running a finger along the rim of your mug. “Which reminds me, I… I don’t have to stay here. Once I start working, I think I’ll be able to check in at the Hummingbird, see if that room’s opened up.”
Steve gives you the same stern look from the diner and you almost giggle at the sight. It’s hard to see the same intimidating alpha now that you’ve heard a little about him from his friends.  “Come on - what kind of pack leader would I be if I kicked you out now?” He stands from the couch, eyes -- and stomach -- starting to turn towards the kitchen. “I won’t stop you if you prefer the motel, of course,  but the offer to stay here will be open until your car’s ready to go.”
“Are you sure...?”
His stern face softens, giving way to another smile. “Positive - don’t worry about it, okay?”
After the last twenty four hours, it’s hard to doubt his capacity for kindness, but reassurance is always appreciated. You thank him one last time as he stalks into the kitchen, wishing you a good night, and when your tea is finished, you pad up to the guest bedroom with your chest feeling as warm as your tummy.
As you finally doze, it’s with a head full of excitement; like a kid the night before a field trip. You didn’t expect it, sure, but you’re ready, anticipant, for the start of your life for the next two months.

[MASTERLIST]
"It's not what it looks like."
People didn't actually say that line, did they? And worse yet, no one actually would possibly believe it. Right? The words fell from her lips and suddenly Javier Peña felt like he was watching a movie about someone else's life. A cliché of a film in which the idiot of a husband walked in on his wife bouncing on the dick of another man. He was that idiot, and as she scrambled off the lap of the stranger and called his name, he slammed the door behind him, not bothering to wait for an explanation. Queue the laugh track or cut to the scene of him walking in the rain to somber music.
Only this wasn't a movie. There would be no comedic relief, just a lot of heartache, wasted time and money. He had always had a bad habit of falling for the wrong girl. He would see himself mirrored in the eyes of the broken, the depressed, the ones who, much like him, just seemed unable to catch a break in life. But instead of getting a kindred spirit to share his world with, he usually just got a lot of baggage and a quick lay.
He packed a bag, not giving a shit about any of his worldly possessions, and found himself at the Dallas airport, sitting at the bar and waiting for his gate number to be called.
He raised two fingers, letting the bartender know he wanted a fucking double, as he held his cellphone to his ear and listened to it ring. The boxy phone didn't fit comfortably against his shoulder and he dropped it just as the other end picked up and Steve's voice came through.
"Murphy."
"Fuck. Shit." Javier fumbled the phone and held it back against his face.
"Javi?"
"Yeah, it's me." Javier sighed as he picked up his whiskey and tossed it back with a mild wince. "I'm on my way back."
"I heard." Steve paused. "Carolyn called. I told her I didn't know where you were."
"Thanks, 'appreciate it."
"I talked to Noonan. She said your job's still open. You can have it and the keys to your apartment."
They both paused for an extended period of time. Javier ordered another shot of whiskey and Steve breathed quietly on the other end of the phone. Neither one of them had to say out loud what they both already knew. Javier had fallen for the wrong girl, again. His heart was broken and he wanted to drown out the ache he was feeling in cheap booze, a carton of Marlboro, and expensive pussy.
"I'll pick you up from the airport. Safe trip, Jav."
"Thanks, Murph."
Javier pressed the button on the phone and rubbed his forehead with a heavy sigh. It was all smooth sailing from here. He was on his way back to normalcy, back to doing what he did best, hunting Narcos and not having any emotional ties to anything that mattered.
--
The car ride from the airport had been quiet for the most part but Javier could tell that Steve was just dying to ask. So, when they parked in front of the apartment and neither one of them moved, he dug his smokes out of his jacket pocket and rolled down the window. He flicked his silver lighter to life and inhaled deeply as Steve shut off the engine.
"Go ahead. Ask."
Steve sighed and looked at his friend. "What happened, man?"
"I let it go too far, like an idiot. And she couldn't even wait until the honeymoon was over before she tripped and landed on some other man's dick." He inhaled deeply and ran his thumb along his mustache.
"Shit. I'm sorry--"
"Don't," Javier cut him off and shook his head. "Okay? Don't."
"You file for divorce?"
"Yeah," he nodded. "Lawyer is drawing everything up now so we can sign it."
"I know you don't want to hear it, but I'm sorry, Javi. You seemed happy." Steve looked at him and Javier flicked his cigarette out of the window.
"Yeah, I know." He took another long drag of his cigarette before tossing the butt out onto the sidewalk. “Tell Connie I said ‘hi’, okay?”
With a mumbled thanks for the ride and a couple of quick 'see you tomorrows', he opened the car door and grabbed his suitcase out of the back seat and walked up the stairs and into the apartment building. He went through the motions of coming back to this place that he knew quite well, as he went downstairs and stuck his keys in the door without needing to turn on a light.
He tossed his keys on the side table and kicked the door shut gently as he dropped his shoulder bag and looked around. The only furniture that the place had was the old embassy supplied leather couch, scuffed up coffee table, and bar stools against the kitchen counter. Fuck. That settled what he would be doing tomorrow, getting all his furniture out of storage and having the embassy replace what he didn’t have.
Before tossing his leather jacket on the back of the couch, he got out another cigarette and let it bob between his lips as he mumbled to himself. He inhaled deeply and tossed his lighter next to his keys before making his way to the kitchen. When he opened the fridge, he didn’t know if he wanted to run upstairs and kiss her, or if he wanted to clutch his chest and cry.
The entire appliance was completely bare and wiped out, the light making the white shelves look entirely too bright, but sitting in the middle of the top shelf was a covered casserole of some kind and a bottle of whiskey. A note was taped to the tin foil that read:
“Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Please eat something while you drink this. -- love, Connie.”
At least Steve knew how to pick a woman, because that’s exactly what Connie was, one hell of a woman. Javier grabbed the bottle of liquor and mentally promised Connie that he would eat later. He wasn’t hungry. He really hadn’t been hungry for the last few days, and as he looked at the whiskey and cracked the seal on the lid, he didn’t mourn that the kitchen didn’t have any glasses. He was well beyond the need for a glass.
He took the bottle to the couch, kicked off his boots and plopped down heavily. The whiskey was a familiar burn down his throat and he felt it all the way to his belly. Warm, inviting, and just what he needed. Another drink was followed by a long drag of his cigarette before he kick backed and muttered, “Home, sweet, home,” to a cold, empty house.
--
The banging on the door permeated his skull in a way that he didn’t think was possible. But then again it had been a long time since he had been this hungover. He rolled over on the leather couch and shoved his face into the cushions and prayed that whoever wanted him would just go away. There was no one on this green earth that he wanted to speak to.
He must have fallen back asleep briefly because the next thing he knew, his partner had let himself into his apartment with his spare key and was nudging his leg that was hanging off the side of the couch.
“Javi,” Steve said as he plucked the empty liquor bottle from under his friend’s arm. “Javi!”
“Is too early,” Javier mumbled into the leather of the sofa.
“It’s 4 in the afternoon.” Steve said, setting the bottle on the coffee table. “I told Noonan you were taking the weekend to unpack--” Steve looked around the apartment and then back to the horizontal man. “Looks like you’re done.”
“Fuck you.”
Steve shook his head and put his hands on his hips. “Come on. You need a shower. I’d offer to buy you a drink but you smell like you’ve got that taken care of. So, how about a lap dance? There’s this new place on the other side of town--got your name written all over it.”
“Go away.”
Steve, rubbed his hand down his face and glared at the shell of the man that he had gotten to know over the last couple of years. The day Javier Peña turned down a lap dance, it would have been a cold day in hell and yet the evidence was right there in front of him. Someone needed to tell the devil to go check his thermostat.
“Mmkay.” Steve said sharply and took the empty bottle over to the sink and filled it about half way with tap water. When he dumped it on top of Javier’s head, the way the dark-haired man sputtered and sat straight up brought him more joy than it probably should have. “Good morning!”
“F-fucking hillbilly,” Javier cursed as he pulled the hem of his shirt up to wipe his face.
“Get your ass in the shower and I won’t tell Con that you didn’t eat her food she left you.” When his friend paused long enough to lower his shirt and glare at him, Steve continued. “I’m not fuckin’ around, Javi.”
The two men stood at odds of one another, but the blond refused to relent. Javier shoved his now soaking wet hair back from where it was plastered to his face and nodded. He stood with a groan and gave Steve his middle finger as he trudged to the bathroom at the end of the hall.
“Missed you, too, bud!” Steve cupped his hands around his mouth in a mock yell after the other man’s retreating form. It was going to be a long road to getting his partner back to his usual self, but the natural place to start was with some no-strings-attached pussy.

hooooo my fucking god I don't know why but recently my anxiety/sence of dread has SKYROCKETED in the last 3 days, I haven't been sleeping great and last night I had an anxiety dream about manning the register at work. idk I guess today was fine but im so fucking overstimulated I guess?? I seriously just dont fuking know. but anyway here’s a summary of some days that I may or may not remember. putting it under the cut
Wednesday I was exited to work, they didn’t need me, I hung out with my friends at their outdoor band concert and had boba and it got super cold out
Thursday I went with my dad to drop off a car, then we had breakfast together at a little restaurant I had never been to before. He told me about his childhood n stuff. Then I went to work and priced things outside and felt good about helping some people buy plants even tho I didn’t know exactly what I was doing and ended up handing them off to Becky anyway. Got off work, came home, hung out waiting to be able to go visit my friend but she took a while so dad and I made the snack he had a lot as a kid which was just handmade chocolate frosting on graham crackers. Eventually my friend got home so I grabbed one of those graham crackers in some Tupperware and some other stuff and headed out. It was a longer drive than I was expecting but eh whatever, I got there no problem with a bunch of dad’s shit in the back of the car. We had awkward hellos in her apartment and I pet her fat ass cat until she suggested we go thrifting and oh my god I had never wanted to go thrifting more in my life than right then. I had one of those moments where I realized oh I’m an adult who can go out and just DO things :D so we walked around and gossiped in goodwil and had a great time until they closed, whereupon steph frantically looked for anything that was open near us while I drove around. We settled on going to a little park nearby, where we climbed on the tube with holes on it and swung on the swings. Then we walked around a dense tree/brush like and into the middle of a field, having our main character moments as we walked to the top of a hill with a cross on it. I took a picture of the sunset and a selfie with both of us before we walked back through the field and drove back to her apartment. I gave her 2 tiny flower jars and she let me borrow her container of earring hardware and a bunch of different tiny things to make into earrings. I had a great time and I’d love to hang out again, maybe when everything isn’t closed lmao. We joked a lot about understanding why people do drugs lmao since there’s nothing else to do! everything’s closed!! Also some joke flirting mixed in for flavor. We have an excuse to hang out again so I can return her earring supplies and she can return my Tupperware lol. I thought my phone was going to die on the way home before I realized there was a charging cord in the car! Nice. Got home, watched my friend stream plasmaphobia for a bit while I finished a birthday gift, and hung out and slept when she quit streaming.
Friend’s birthday party day!! Also dad moving day!! The first task of the day was to drive with my dad down to the nearest uhaul to pick up a big ol’ truck, and follow him home in the car while he lead the way in the truck. Then we brought his car full of shit to the apartment, got his key and paid his first month, and looked through everything to do inspection. Tbh it’s a pretty nice apartment, I’d love to spend some time there once it’s a bit more furnished. My favorite part is a Harry Potter style hidey hole closet that’s meant for storage, but it’s the perfect size for a secluded hangout spot for me. I’ll totally let him use it for storage if he wants, I just like sitting in there. I joked that I would let Emily hang out in the spare bedroom and I could get the tiny room. But we spent time cleaning and looking around and bringing in boxes before dad sent me to pick up lunch, my sister, and another car load of boxes. I left to do all 3 and came back with Mcallisters, and we all sat on the floor and ate together. A very nice way to break in a new apartment. We brought in boxes and dad sent us on a quest to pick up a car part and drop it off where the car we dropped off the day before. We got there just fine, but getting to the second location was a nightmare because of all my wrong turns and u turns and no left turns, it was awful. I mean we got there eventually but still. By then it was time for me to get home so I could wash my hair and get ready for the party!! I got everything ready, but my sister wouldn’t be home with the car on time, so I just took my mom’s van. I was on time for once!! But in exchange I didn’t realize I had forgotten Cassidy’s gift until I was like 3 minutes away. But also I found driving my moms van very easy compared to last time I tried to drive it, and I think I’m a much more confident driver now :) but I was one of the first to arrive, accidentally twinned with cass, waited for everyone to show up, met her new dog, and then we all packed up the picnic basket and walked to the top of a hill to have our little sandwiches and play cards against humanity. On the walk there we passed by a park where little kids were asking why we were all dressed up if it wasn’t Halloween, so I shouted at them that it was her birthday and handed them the branch I was carrying. We played CAH on the hill and ate little sandwiches and meatballs and drank sparkling juice and had a lovely time, and when we were done, we walked back to her house where there was pizza and we all changed out of our formal wear. My bra was sewed into my dress with 6 stitches, so I grabbed some scissors and flashed my friend’s cat as I cut my bra free of the dress because I forgot to bring an extra. I changed into my ghostbusters shirt and snake onesie and joined everyone outside for pizza and lots and lots of stories and ice cream cake and gossip and quiplash and balloons and gifts and CAH and friends leaving and new friends arriving and more quiplash and then the grass getting cold and wet and going ham on keeping the balloons up and then playing that’s what she said (basically CAH but ✨for women ✨) and by this time there was a dude I didn’t know but he was very nice and cute and already taken. Tbh I didn’t know half the people there, there was a group of 4 cool alt people I had never met and then the 4 band kids I already knew but everyone else seemed to know each other and they all had great energy so I yelled a lot and joked a ton and had an amazing time. As the crowd dwindled and the night got cooler, I helped put things away before I left so I could be a nice guest, said my goodbyes, gathered my things, and drove home past midnight. Ask walked around the house turning off lights like my mom asked, I realized that my dad wouldn’t be sleeping here anymore, and I felt bad that he had to spend the night all alone in his new apartment :( and this is going to be a huge financial burden that idk if he can afford, rent for the apartment is almost as much as my mom pays for the house. Jejdjgjt this is all a mess and I would like to go back to ignoring it all <3 Listened to a lot of two trucks by lemon demon lmao
Hoo boy howdy I did a lot of shit today. Basically as soon as I woke up I got a text from dad about us helping him move with a promise of donut holes and a fruit platter. I walked out to the garage to find our family friends the drakes helping to move boxes, so we all spent several hours loading boxes into our cars and driving back and forth from the house to the apartment, with emily and I avoiding the drakes as much as possible lmao. When we had moved as much as we could in the car, we started loading up the uhaul, shoving as much shit in there as possible so we only had to do one trip there and back. Partially through unloading the truck the drakes stopped cleaning things before we brought them in left and some randos from dad’s work came to help unload and somewhere in the middle of all this our aunt and uncle and her service dog came to visit?? Bruh idk so much stuff happened. Emily asked me to take her home so she could work on school stuff and we put things back into the garage and I went back to the apartment to help with stuff and hang out with my aunt while my dad and uncle returned the truck. We made a list of stuff I might need for college and I wrote it down on a notepad and most of the page space was taken up by ponies tbh. The men brought back burger king and eventually my aunt and uncle left. I helped my dad clean up and set up his wifi and we watched mama Mia. It was my first time seeing the film, and it was really dang fun. Then I made dad drive me ho e since emily was still gone with the silver car. I’ll spend he night over there eventually, but not yet. I’m exited to eventually invite friends over since I’ve never been able to do that before. So now I’m home trying g to go to sleep so I can work tomorrow. I keep thinking about smoking weed and making out with someone in the hidey hole in dad’s apartment............ even tho I have literally no one to do that with afsagssg I’m a CHILD.
Had dreams last night about being stuck on the infinity train again, except there was a mechanic of switching the world between 2d and 3d and the cast of Bluey had to help bingo go through stages of grief / character moments to help her get off the train or something. I was tossing and turning for a few hours anxiously waking up thinking I was gonna be late and going back to bed so I could sleep/dream more. But then I finally got up, fed my cat, fed myself, helped clean the kitchen a little bit, got ready for work, arrived 15 minutes late on accident, worked register for 6 hours, got more comfortable with register and learned how to do stuff, lots of friendly people, lots of me struggling and my bones hurting, dad brought me food but I couldn’t get to my lunch break until everything was room temperature. The chicken sandwich reheated well but the fries did not. After work dad and I stopped by the house, I got an info card to fill out so I can be called in for jury duty eventually, dad handed me $50 for dinner for us and my sister, we laid on the floor and looked at the noodles and company menu, drove there, picked up our food, had a lovely dinner at dad’s apartment, laid around while he talked to Greg on the phone, went to target to pick up small apartment things like a clock and a trash can and some small groceries but it made me nervous because I hate spending money and watching my dad spend money he may or may not have, and by then we were tired as shit and after dropping his stuff off emily and I drove home and I tried teaching her how to crochet for a school project. Now I’m hanging out wanting to go to bed and thinking about how everybody else my age working at ACE is doing like 60 hours a week with 2 jobs and saving for college and I’m just sitting here with probably 14 hours a week and fuck. I don’t want to spiral into shit, I just want to keep busy as much as possible. Maybe I’ll ask for as many work hours as possible, maybe I’ll ask my friends to hang out, idk. Right now I jut want to be busy so I don’t have to think about anything. I’ll spend as much time as possible helping my dad set up his apartment, I don’t care.
WAAAAA TODAY AT WORK WAS SO STRESSFUL, I LEFT FELLNG SO FRAZZLED IT SUCKED. basically I worked register for 4 hours but they’re all trying to ween me off asking for help to get me more comfortable, and we were surprisingly busy, and my garden boss becky asked me to do 2 extra things and my boss boss kept asking about paperwork that I couldn't fill out because I needed my sister to text me something, and an old man got mad at me over the phone because no-one was out there to fill his propane tank and I had a lady waiting for 10 minutes for someone to help load salt into her car and a middle aged man tried to use sarcasm at me while I was in friendly cashier mode aND IM SORRY I HAVE ADHD I DONT GET IT PLEASE S T O P and I tried answering the phone more and I didnt get the things done that becky asked and I left shit there because I just wanteD OUT. afterwards I went to target to get something, idk im writing this afterwards so I not really remember
and today, my day off. ugh god I dont remember what I did, I know I picked up a vent for my mom’s bathroom and I just went to go get Taco Bell with my sister and bought her some more about crocheting and she’s making progress :) tomorrow is my friend’s birthday and last year I made her a felt doll of her fursona, so today I started making a crochet doll for her. so far I have the body and libs, but I still need to make the muzzle, tail, ears, attach everything, and hand-sew on all the markings and glue on button eyes. or maybe felt eyes, idk. my stomach hurts and I got upset because I told my mom my cat may be sick because her pee looked suspicious so I crocheted and watched my little pony and now I have a headache and im just trying to listen to music but really I just want to watch 50 arms videos at once but it wasn't loading right and idk man I dont know what’s happening, I may be going into work tomorrow. I think now that I have a job to do 3-4 times a week, I dont feel like I can just chill and wing it anymore, it’s like I have plans forever now. and oh god I still have to sig up for college orientation night or whatever, but my mind hasn'tt been on college for like a month or longer. I think im just going to take some Advil and try to relax with my cat and my music. holy shit dude. I know none’s gonna read this but just. fuck. also I should really post these more frequently rather than let them pile up in my texts. thinking about going back and adding all the dates like I did with my early quarantine diary, but that feels like a lot of work

Absolution
Summary:
noun: formal release from guilt, obligation, or punishment
The Capital Wasteland lauded the Lone Wanderer as a hero, a Messiah, a savior who’s willing to give her life for the Good Fight. Beyond the legends, the propaganda, and the mythification that surrounded her legacy, there is only one person who knew her bare soul. She gave him his absolution, and now he will fight for hers.
VI
September 19, 2277. It’s been two days since the incident. I still can’t figure out my mistress’ motivations for helping me with that sorry excuse of a trial. Perhaps she’s protecting her 2000 cap investment, but she took the money back from Ahzrukhal’s body when I shot him. Letting me be apprehended by the people would certainly mean losing an asset, but she can always hire other mercenaries to take my place as her bodyguard. Whichever is it, I don’t know. Things had calmed down in Underworld. Barrows decided that the Ninth Circle should be repurposed as an assembly area. Carol invited my mistress and I for lunch, and Greta said the food was on the house. Percy spent hours listening to Carol’s stories while I ate my meal in peace. I appreciated being able to sit down and eat. Ahzrukhal never granted me such a thing. By the time we left Carol’s Place, Percy was blushing and smiling ear-to-ear from the stories and compliments the ghoulette told her. Carol stood in the doorway, an arm around Greta, as she watched us leave for Megaton, mentioning something about saying hi to someone named Gob. Miss said that we are going to her house in Megaton. On the way, we made a detour to a scrapyard, the sun almost setting. “Hey, Charon, could you help me look for a handbrake?” Percy asks, bent over a fallen motorcycle that she’s stripping for parts, and I set my sight on the horizon, watching for threats and actively avoiding looking at her. “My contract entitles you to combat services. I’m afraid you have to look for it yourself,” I tell her, unmoving from my spot. I still refuse to look at her. “Please? Two pairs of eyes are better than one,” she asks. That word again. Please. I realize she’s not issuing a command. She’s asking me a favor. I see a pleading expression on her face, and I roll my eyes.
Grumbling as I marched over to help her look, I got on my knees next to her to look for the damn thing. When she laughed at my frustration, I finally allowed myself to look at her. Snowflake chopped my mistress’ dark hair to a very short bob, no longer the combat hazard that it used to be. When I tore away my eyes from her and started to really look for the item she mentioned, I found one just lying a few feet from us, and held it out to her with a flat expression. She looks at me, laughs, and tucks the handbrake safely in her sack of scrap. “Oops. Didn’t see that just there, sorry.” “Your eyesight could put us at a disadvantage in combat, mistr-.” Percy gives me that look again. I realize my mistake. “Miss.” Laughing and shrugging me off, she stands up and shakes the dirt off her knees. “Okay, maybe I can tolerate ‘miss’, Mr. Dreamboat. I still prefer Percy, though.” I can’t help but grumble and groan in exasperation, but the jokes are better than what I experienced from past employers when I unintentionally disobey an order. Far better. “I will endeavor to adjust to your preferences, Percy.” “Thank you. I appreciate the effort, big guy,” she replies, moving on to rummage through a toolbox next to an old, decrepit car. “It’s hard to unlearn all the habits you picked up from your previous employers, so don’t sweat it. I’m giving you a wide room for error. You are allowed to make mistakes, unless it gets one or both of us killed, of course.” “I shall do my best not to commit such errors, miss.” Then, I heard a laugh bubble from her throat again. “A skin mag? Really?” she mutters, perusing a pornographic pre-war magazine hidden underneath the tools. She looks over her shoulder and sees me waiting for her, and she seems almost bashful. “N-not that I was planning on keeping it,” she stutters, tossing the magazine aside. “What my employers do in their spare time isn’t my business.” Percy pauses, then throws her head back, laughing in relief. “Finally, I’m in good company,” she said, breezing past me to pick up and tuck the magazine in her pack. She goes back to rummaging through the toolbox with an embarrassed smile.
Then, we both hear it. Gunfire, and barks. Percy immediately drops what she’s doing and runs towards the noise.
Cursing, I followed close by, and a raider was shooting at a dog. A scavenger lies dead on the ground, the dog’s former master I presume, and another raider, with teeth marks on his neck. Not wanting to waste ammo on a lone raider, Percy retrieves her baseball bat from her pack and gives the raider a hard smack on the head, and the dog lunges in for the kill, sinking its teeth in the raider’s neck. I didn’t even have to move a muscle.
Then, the dog sidles over, whimpering, a gash on its side. My mistress immediately falls to her knees and pets the animal. “Charon. Charon are you seeing this? It’s a dog! An actual dog!”
I was confused by her enthusiastic reaction, then I remember that she’s from a vault. She probably saw them only in pictures. “Hi boy. You’re okay,” she coos at the mutt, running her small hands on its head and giving it a good pet.
“You lost your friend, did you boy?” The dog whines at her, almost as if it can understand the words she’s saying. “Hey, I lost my dad too. I’m still looking for him.”
At her remark, the dog licks her face. “Huh. Well aren’t you smart? I think I should call you... Dogmeat. Like that dog from an old sci-fi flick. Do you like that, boy?”
Dogmeat slobbers on Percy’s face even more. Then, he bounds towards me, sniffs me, and decides that my hand is worth slobbering on.
“Charon, I think he likes you too,” Percy coos, and the edge of my lip twitches upward. I let go of my inhibitions and pet the dog’s furry head.
“C’mon, let’s get home.”
Eyes were on us when we arrived in Megaton. The sheriff, a man called Lucas Simms, went over to greet my mistress, and asked about me and the dog. Percy tells him that we are her new friends. Simms tipped his hat at me, told me that I am welcome as long as I treat Megaton’s people right, then went on his way. Seems like a decent enough man.
Percy dug in her satchel for the key to her house, and when the door swung open, we were greeted by one of those old Mr. Handy robots from before the war. My mistress dumps her sack of junk near the door. The dog gives the robot a curious sniff before moving on and settling at my mistress’ feet.
“Well, this is home. It’s not much, but it’s a place to sleep in. What do you think?”
There’s a salvaged couch and a busted pre-war television set in the living room, a stove in the kitchen, and school lockers repurposed as storage. A shelf holds her cutlery and there is a lone sink near the fridge. No toilets or showers. The stairs don’t have any safety railings, but thankfully the area above has some. I’ve seen houses in a more sorry state, but the house had no windows nor other exits. Still very much a hazard.
“C’mon, don’t be shy, big guy. You’ll be living here with me until we sort your contract out,” Percy asks, sitting on the couch and kicking her boots off.
“I don’t like the look of this place.”
“Yeah I- huh?” Percy looks at me with wide eyes. I realize that I have been too blunt and insulted the house of the girl who patched me up after being ambushed by super mutants.
Dammit.
“There is only one entry and exit point. It’s unsafe in case of an emergency, such as a fire, or a home invasion,” I tell her and cross my arms, not daring to meet her eyes.
To my surprise, she nods. “Yeah. It freaks me out. I still haven’t asked Moira to help me drill windows.” I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding.
“It’s still adequate shelter,” I tell her, but she moves on.
“Follow me,” she tells me, climbing up the stairs. There were two rooms, one that didn’t have a door on the left, and a smaller one with a door on the right. “I use the room on the right to store things, but you can have it. I’ll move the things tomorrow.. I think there’s also a spare mattress inside,” Percy tells me, opening the door, and some items come spilling out.
A bedroom? Under Ahzrukhal’s employ, I didn’t even have a bed. I didn’t even get sleep.
“Miss Percy, this isn’t necessary.”
“What do you mean?”
“I am trained to go without sleep. Providing me with a room would only be a waste of your resources.”
The mistress looks at me in disbelief. “Wait, are you saying that Ahzrukhal didn’t let you sleep? You just stand in that corner all night?”
“...yes. I only leave for meals and to relieve myself.”
Percy does it again, that gesture where she raises her hands in frustration. “Christ, no wonder you’re so grumpy. Just take the damn room, Charon. It'll give both you and me some privacy, and you’ll get some sleep.”
I didn’t get privacy from my previous employers too, save for the times I needed to piss or shit. My head is light from all the things Percy is granting me, but I’m still grateful.
“I- yes, miss. Thank you.”
Thanking Percy felt foreign on my lips. My employers never did anything for me to be thankful for. I can’t help but feel suspicious of this girl, but her smile hides no malice behind it. It’s baffling, but I decided that I still like being under her employ.
“Don’t sweat it. I’ll be right back. Just need to fetch some groceries and disinfectant for my suture kit from the store. I need to boil those tools soon...”
“I’ll accompany you,” I tell her, but she shakes her head. “I’ll be fine Charon. Now go on, make yourself at home. You can clean up in the sink then get some sleep.”
I nodded. As soon as the door shut, I walked to the sink and undressed. I can’t even remember the last time I took a sink bath. Then, I changed into a sleeveless white undershirt and gray boxers… the only spare clothes I own. I go in my room, turn on the lamp on a table in my room, and see everything in my room. There’s an assortment of junk, weapons, and armor.
Then, I see it. Power armor with a white paint job. The letters “USA” with a serial number next to it.
The straw that broke the brahmin’s back.
??? ??, ????
I flinch from a burst of snow, the metal of my armor feels frozen to the touch. The side has been cracked open, red staining the snow. My blood. I touch it and it stains my gloved hand. A .308 round tore through the metal. A pair of hands drag me to safety and I hear my orders from the radio. Get back up. Get back up or risk being taken prisoner. I can’t disobey an order.
Scrambling to my feet, I pick up my rifle. My legs drag me to the sniper’s nest, squadmates covering me, and I can taste iron in my mouth. I do not stop. I have been trained to withstand this. I looked for the tell-tale silver-white reflection, and when I saw it, I opened fire. The sniper uncloaks and lies bleeding face-first, broken on the floor. I see the red star on the nape of his armor, and he rolls on his back, and attempts to reach for the 10 mm on his hip, and I kick it away. He’s begging in a language I can’t understand, but I pay no attention to it. The only thing that matters is my orders. Aiming for the head, I shot him, and the helmet broke into pieces.
At the sound of my gun firing, I look at the soldier and see that there weren't any chunks of gore underneath his shattered helmet. Instead, I was looking at a woman’s face. The body wasn’t a man’s either; the sniper’s breasts heaved as she breathed rapidly, dark eyes wild. She’s underneath me, back pressed against the dirt, and I feel heat on my back.
It’s Percy.
“Charon.”
Every damn muscle in my body hurt like hell, and my head feels like it’s been split open. I look at my hands, rough and peeling, with no bloodstains. A small hand was on my bicep, and I heard the whine of a dog.
“Oh, thank God,” I hear a person gasp. It’s my mistress’ voice.
“Percy. What day is it?”
“It’s September 20, Charon.”
“What year?”
“2277.”
I let out a shaky exhale. My mistress beckons me, and I follow her wordlessly. Percy leads me to the couch, and we sit on the opposite ends of it. Dogmeat follows us too, putting his head on my lap. A look of worry is etched on Percy’s face. “That’s some nightmare, big guy.”
Just great. The first sleep I had in fuck knows how long, and I get a nightmare.
“Do you mind telling me about it?”
My jaw hardens. “If conversation is your order to me, I shall converse with you.”
“Hey, it’s not an order. If you don’t trust me enough to tell me yet, I understand.”
Relief floods through me. I grunted in acknowledgment. My mistress stands up and heads to the kitchen, and comes back with a plate of food. Broiled mirelurk cakes. “Um, here. I made these last night and reheated them. Please, eat with me.”
My eyes wander to my mistress. Her short hair is tousled, her eyes are still heavy with sleep, her face is clean, and she wears nothing but a black shirt and gray boyshorts. Now she’s serving me breakfast.
I think about the domesticity of the scene and decide to say nothing about it.
We finish our meal in peace, and she gets up to put the dishes in the sink. I busy myself with stripping and cleaning my shotgun, and my mistress busies herself with a book. Dogmeat eats his breakfast on a dog dish that Percy bought last night. It was a comfortable silence.
Then, she broke it.
“I need to say something,” she starts, looking at me with a firm expression. “Remember when I said that I was studying to be a doctor in the vault?”
I nod at her, and she clears her throat. “Part of my training is psychiatry. It's... how do I put it… the study of the health of the human mind. So, aside from keeping you physically healthy, I can also help with that.”
I let my mistress continue. An anxious look is on her face.
“And uh, I know the theory behind most of it, but I have no experiences providing those services to a patient yet. I need to properly diagnose you, but, you were screaming and saying some things in your sleep. I don’t think that what you experienced is a regular nightmare, big guy.”
I blink at her a few times.
“Charon, I think you were experiencing a traumatic recall.”

Top Advantages and Disadvantages Of Hybrid cars
Tumblr media
When looking for cars for sale in Sri Lanka, hybrid cars have become very popular in recent times, with more and more people wanting own eco-friendly transportation. The hybrid car is a vehicle that has two sources of power. The first source of power comes from one or more electric motors, which can be powered by electricity drawn from the battery pack. The second source of power comes from an internal combustion engine, which can be fuelled by gasoline or diesel fuel. These days you can find many different makes and models of hybrid cars for sale, and finding one that suits your requirements is not that hard.
 Advantages of Hybrid Cars
There are many advantages to owning a hybrid car in comparison to conventional cars. These include:
-      Using less gasoline resulting in a reduction of greenhouse emissions.
-      Smaller battery packs because the electric motor can perform some work to assist the internal combustion engine, which means that you save money on buying new batteries as technology improves and those costs come down.
-      Hybrids are more environmentally friendly than conventional vehicles due to their reduced emission rates and the use of electricity over gasoline.
-      The hybrid car can be plugged in and used as a regular electric vehicle, which means you do not have to purchase gasoline at all.
-      Electric motor assist adds torque during acceleration resulting in better driving performance than average non-hybrid vehicles.
 Disadvantages of Hybrid Cars
Together with the advantages, there are also certain disadvantages to using a hybrid car, which include the following:
-      The battery may not last as long due to the extra weight of the electric motor.
-      Hybrids are more expensive than non-hybrid cars.
-      As with any car, repairs can sometimes be costly and spare parts may not be readily available.
-      Hybrids usually do not offer as much trunk space for storage because of the battery pack placement.
-      The electric motor may become damaged if allowed to get wet, therefore it is important that hybrids be parked in a garage.
-      If there are more than one person inside of the car while using an air conditioner, then power output will decrease and fuel efficiency will also go down since both items require extra energy from the engine.
How can you save money on gas in your hybrid vehicle?
Saving on fuel cost is one of the advantages of using a hybrid vehicle. This is because the engine is working with an electric motor to produce the power needed.
-      Buy a brand-new car, not used one because it will be expensive and would require more money on gas than you need to spend.
-      Make sure that your car always gets serviced regularly so there won’t be any problems along the way while driving for months or years without getting checked up by a professional mechanic.
-      Make sure you check all of the fluids and replace them every once in a while, such as oil and brake fluid since they can potentially get too old over time if they aren't replaced when required. This will allow you to avoid unexpected things happening throughout your drive like serious damage done to your vehicle due to experiencing some sort of malfunctioning which may cause you to spend even more money than you originally planned for.
The benefits of buying a used hybrid car vs new
Is there really any benefit to buying a used hybrid car over a brand new one? The biggest benefit is definitely the price. A used hybrid car will cost half, or even less than half of what a new one costs. This can save you thousands of dollars which may be able to go elsewhere in your life instead.
However, remember that the battery on a used hybrid car is also old and may require replacement soon after buying. Hybrid batteries can cost quite a bit of money.
Tips for maintaining your battery life and other parts in your hybrid vehicle
Maintaining your hybrid vehicle properly and regularly will ensure that your battery lasts for as long as possible. You want to make sure that you are changing the oil in it every few thousand miles, checking all of the fluids and replacing them when needed (especially brake fluid), rotating its tyres regularly, performing general maintenance on it at least once a year or more often, if necessary, etc.
You also need to remember that since hybrid vehicles require less fuel than regular gas-powered cars, they can cause other parts in your vehicle not to get used much which will result in wearing down over time; this includes things like rotors and timing belts among others. For these reasons you should always ensure that any repairs or replacements are done before problems arise with them instead of putting off having them fixed until later because then it can become costlier and more inconvenient.

JUNK REMOVAL TIPS
Junk Removal Decluttering Done Better: How Your Unwanted Stuff Can Make Your Community and the Planet Happier A1 Junk Removal Of Tucson Junk Removal Decluttering is all the rage. After tidying up all the stuff you want to keep, how about everything else? What you do next can change lives and make the earth greener. Give Vases Another Shot at Love Do you have a cabinet full of vases thanks to all those lovesick paramours sending you flowers? Or maybe you’ve been the lucky recipient of one too many edible deliveries. Either way, if you’ve got more vessels than a glassblower and potter combined, call the florist’s in your area. Offer to drop off your stash of vases so they can be reused for future bouquets. Provide Bedding for Four-Legged Friends If your leopard-print sheets no longer spark joy, don’t toss them. Instead, donate them to an animal-friendly business. Kennels, rescue organizations, and veterinarians can use your sheets, as well as blankets and towels, as bedding in crates. Do Good with Your Excess Baggage It’s not unusual for a household to amass a serious amount of baggage. Meaning, you probably have an assortment of backpacks, duffels, suitcases, and wheeled luggage. Many organizations can use the bags that you no longer need. Foster care agencies will distribute them to children within the foster care system. Or, if you’re about to embark on a trip, you can pack athletic, medical, pet, or school supplies in a spare suitcase and drop it off to a specific nonprofit in the community you plan to visit. Outfit a Kitchen with Your Surplus Supplies Your extra pots, pans, and flatware can help individuals in need. Contact your local social services organization. They can arrange for your donation to be sent to a specific household, or they may recommend that your kitchen items are a better fit for a nearby senior center, soup kitchen, or veterans association.
Replenish Tool Kits
Whether you have a spare ladder or a shed full of tools, tradespeople can benefit from the equipment you no longer want. Ask about tool collection drives at hardware stores and home improvement chains. Donate your items to trade schools, or offer your tools to artisans, carpenters, landscapers, painters, and plumbers.
Responsibly Recycle Your E-Waste
The Pew Research Center reports that 92 percent of U.S. adults have a mobile phone, 73 percent have a desktop or laptop computer, and 45 percent have tablets. As Americans upgrade their devices, the result is an astounding amount of e-waste. Fortunately, manufacturers and electronics retailers provide in-store and online recycling programs. The EPA also provides a comprehensive listing of recycling resources per state. Many charities, community centers, and schools also accept electronics donations.
Donate Appliances and Building Materials to a Reuse Center
Decluttering often includes clearing your home of big-ticket items, particularly if you are renovating. These items include appliances, bathtubs, cabinetry, doors, fixtures, flooring, lighting, mantels, and windows. Rather than throw them in a dumpster, donate them to a reuse center where they can be sold to builders, decorators, and homeowners at deeply discounted prices. Many reuse centers offer a pickup service to make donating more convenient.
Decluttering is even more satisfying when you find a second home for your unwanted stuff. Give vases to florists, provide bedding to animal-friendly businesses, put your baggage in the hands of a foster child, fill a suitcase with needed supplies, outfit a kitchen for someone less fortunate than you, replenish the tool kits of tradespeople, responsibly recycle your e-waste, and donate big-ticket items to a reuse center. Your charitable efforts will promote community goodwill and a greener planet!
Tips For Junk Removal And Garage Storage Ideas – Organize Your Junk or Get Rid of It!
For most homes, the garage is often a built-in storage unit. The problem is that the items that we store often end up just becoming junk that we need to get rid of. The truth is that for many of us, the family garage is just a place to pile up our stuff. In fact, it's been estimated that less than 20 percent of homeowners and renters in the United States use their garages to park their cars in. This is not because we prefer to keep our cars parked out in the elements during the day and overnight. It's because most of us have no room in our garages for a car, let alone two!
Storage Space is at a Premium
The major issue for most people when it comes to garage storage is with how to best use the space that's available. This is even more of an issue with small, one car garages, but it's still true for the larger, three car structures on many homes. Most garages are not built with shelving and closets are rarely included except, perhaps, in a custom built home.
But simply piling boxes, storage containers and piles of stuff doesn't work well.
Maximizing the available space is a challenge and somewhat problematic.  For example, any doorways into and out of the garage have to be kept clear, and the large garage door, or doors, must be avoided, as well. The end result is often unsightly, disorganized piles of stuff crammed into the open area of the garage, with a narrow path or two between doors. This is, of course, highly inefficient, awkward to move around, and even dangerous. Piles have been known to fall over and there is also the increasing fire danger as junk piles up everywhere. And, over time, we have a tendency to accumulate and hoard, Which leads to more stuff, bigger piles, and less space.
Organizing the Stuff and Shedding the Junk
At some point you realize things have gotten out of hand. You can't find things you need, you can't reach things you want, and you trip over stuff that should be tossed out. That's when it's high time to begin organizing and eliminating. Before you consider building, installing or paying for storage solutions, you need to winnow out the junk from the good stuff. Staging, categorizing and separating your belongings is essential for good organization when it comes to cleaning the garage. While it is easiest to use the driveway or yard for this step, it might be possible to do this inside the garage itself. Begin by separating out anything and everything that you do not want to keep, or are even uncertain about. You can always change your mind later.
This step is a big part of this process.
The items you know for certain you want to be rid of can be sold through sites such as Craig's List or eBay, donated to local charities, or simply given to willing neighbors who can then store them in their own garages! After you have sold off everything you can possibly can, set the remainder aside for a Short of selling or donating these items, you can always call on a reliable junk hauling service like A1 Junk Removal Of Tucson. The important thing is to reduce the overall quantity of stuff in your garage before setting up storage options.
Storing Your Things Efficiently Requires Hardware One of the best methods, of course, is to provide shelving. Simply putting everything that fits into plastic storage containers, for example, is a good start, but these can only be stacked so high before creating a different hazard. Storing everything on shelves is a far more efficient and safer method. The goal is to store "up", not all over. Shelving allows you to accomplish this. Part of the beauty of a garage, of course, is that it easily lends itself to a variety of shelving methods. And the space used for shelves is only limited by the height of the ceiling, the number of doors taking up wall space, and the methods used.
Garage storage shelving solutions involve four basic options:
Cabinets
These can be anything from kitchen or bathroom cabinets that have been re-purposed for your garage, to high-end systems especially designed to be used in the garage. While this option is usually the costliest, it can also be the most appealing visually and provide sufficient "out-of-sight" storage for most homeowners. Aside from the cost and the need for installation, a disadvantage is that these are fixed in place and somewhat limited in capacity.
Free-Standing Shelf Units
There are an abundant variety of shelf units that can be purchased from department stores and big box hardware outlets. These range from all plastic shelves that are usually designed for lighter weight storage, to professional-grade units built to withstand almost anything. Typically, the stronger the shelf unit the more weight it can hold, but also the higher the price tag. Units that are open shelves without sides, backs or doors, can be quite versatile in that they provided great access and can be re-positioned throughout the garage, if need be.
Built-In Shelving
Many homeowners find that building shelves along the walls of the garage provide the best of both worlds for storage. These shelves cannot fall over like free-standing are prone to, especially in earthquake states like California. In addition, they can be built all the way to the ceiling, providing maximum storage capacity. Shelves built along the walls can also be designed to run above doorways and with alternating heights between shelves.
Ceiling Shelves
One more option that can be utilized is the empty space in the ceiling of your garage. This requires sufficient hardware to secure the shelves properly, but it allows a homeowner to make use of overhead space efficiently and "out-of-sight." These units should be reserved for items that are a) not excessively large or heavy, and b) not used and accessed very often.
Minimizing Your Storage Needs by Removing the Junk
Ultimately, when all your stuff is separated and organized, you are bound to end up with stuff that needs to be gotten rid of.

Junk Removal Decluttering Done Better: How Your Unwanted Stuff Can Make Your Community and the Planet Happier
RGV Hauling Junk & Moving Junk Removal Decluttering is all the rage.
After you have sold off everything you can possibly can, set the remainder aside for a Short of selling or donating these items, you can always call on a reliable junk hauling service like RGV Hauling Junk & Moving.
JUNK REMOVAL TIPS
Junk Removal Decluttering Done Better: How Your Unwanted Stuff Can Make Your Community and the Planet Happier
LNK Hauling Junk & Moving Junk Removal Decluttering is all the rage.
After you have sold off everything you can possibly can, set the remainder aside for a Short of selling or donating these items, you can always call on a reliable junk hauling service like LNK Hauling Junk & Moving.
And if you haven't been able to sell it or donate it - or don't want to take the time to do so - then you need the services of a good junk hauling firm. Cleanliness and organization make a happy home. Stuck with useless junk? Let LNK Hauling Junk & Moving take care of the garbage and unwanted stuff: • Hauling services for large and bulky amounts of junk. • House cleanouts for moving, spring cleaning, converting rooms, or just getting a clean slate. • Property cleanouts for landlords, real estate agents, or inherited homes full of old belongings. • Trash removal for yard waste, construction projects, and cleaning projects Our residential junk removal services provide an easy solution for clearing out clutter and hauling away unwanted junk. Boat Transport Cost – Factors to Consider
When the time comes to transport a boat, you will find that there are two basic options: tow rope and flat-rigging. Towing a boat requires more planning and equipment than flat-rigging, so it is usually best left to the experts. Overland transport, usually flat-rigged or semisubmersible, marine lifting vessels, and specialized delivery teams can bring those faraway dream destinations closer within reach, sometimes in just a few hours. To make your dream become a reality, we’ve collected the knowledge you need to about boat transport so you can actually cruise your ship through exotic ports with the confidence of a professional crew.
Tumblr media
One of the first decisions you must make about boat transport is the shipping method. There are numerous methods available, but our advice for beginners is to stick to the tried-and-true trailers. Towing old trailers are ideal for fast, low-cost boat transport while storing and servicing is better suited to long-term storage. Remember that if you’re shipping containers, the weight of the whole thing can exceed the value of the containers, so be sure to consider the cargo as well as your shipping method when calculating costs.
Once you have determined a method of transporting your vessel, you must identify the size of the boat and where you want to place it. Next, you must select the mode of transport you prefer: from truck to trailer, from semi-submersible to afloat, or from trailer to pier. In addition to selecting a shipping method, you must also select destinations and time periods for your boat transport. These details will influence the time and cost of your journey. Freight costs may be costly but it’s a convenient way to ship your boat because you don’t have to bother with keeping them stored while in transit.
When choosing a boat shipping company, ask them for their quotes. Find out the price range they charge for different sizes of boats and the modes of transportation they use for transport. Inquire about the loading and unloading charges, the brokerage or handling charges, the transport documentation fees, the customs fees, and other charges that may apply. Know how long it will take the shipping company to get your boat transported to your desired destination and the time of delivery. A good boat transport company will give you a comprehensive answer to all these questions and more.
Ask your friends, family members, colleagues and acquaintances for recommendations regarding the best boat shipping method. You might also find answers among the ads you see around. Keep in mind that a lot of companies offer cheap boat shipping services, but they might not be fully dedicated to taking care of your needs. Also, a small transport company doesn’t have the necessary manpower or resources to make your transport smoothly.
It is important to choose the right kind of boat transport service provider. There are various types of boat transporters offering a variety of services. First, find out what kind of service your boat needs. Whether you want your boat to be transported using an open trailer truck or a container ship is another important factor you must consider before making the final decision. You should make sure that your chosen provider can provide all the services you need within the required time frame and within the specified price range. For example, a small transport company offering car carrier and boat transport can only make available services within three hours of your boat delivery.
Smaller boats will always require smaller boat transport cost. However, there are also bigger boats that will need special transportation options. As a general rule, the larger the boat the more expensive its transportation cost will be.
There are also a lot of accessories and services that are offered when your boat is transported using trailers. These include such accessories as drain plugs trailer, boat cradle and boat slip. Some of these accessories may include the packing of spare parts, fuel and other liquids, corrugated cartons, hydraulic fluid and other coolants and chemicals, first aid kit and a first-aid kit. All these services will cost extra for those who have bigger boats. This is why it is important to consider the boat transport cost and then make your final decision on what kind of trailer will suit you best.

How to invest in Tokusatsu Part 2: The List
Toei Co. LTD
Tumblr media
Ticker #: TYO 9605
Dividend (Late 2017): 0.45 USD per share
Dividend Yield (Late 2017): 0.05%
Price: $105-106 USD (Late 2017)
Licenses: Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Metal Heroes, various heroes created by Shotaro Ishinomori, Sailor Moon, Pretty Cure.
Toei is massive in terms of what cards it has on the table. Name a popular anime in the past 10-20 years and there is roughly a 7 out of 10 chance it came from this studio’s animation department.  Even Gen X American childhood favorites like Muppet Babies came from this studio’s animation department. Aside from that, they are the film and TV production company of Super Sentai, the original source material for Saban’s Power Rangers series, as well as Super Sentai’s older sister series Kamen Rider. Both are beloved staples of Japanese pop culture that make Toei some serious bank. If not for people like Shotaro Ishinomori, this company would not be known as the crown jewel of Japanese superhero media.
The downside is Toei isn’t cheap for some, 105 bucks is a lot to ask for. But it is justified as it is one of the most successful international animation studios outside of Disney and has made cult live action hits like Battle Royale.
The company as a whole has: Real estate, animation and live action film and television production, movie theaters, home video distribution (V-Cinemas and Hyper Battle Videos being an example), internet streaming content distribution, film studios for developing movies for clients, a high tech film R&D department, a Feudal Japan theme park (which many period piece shows or scenes use for filming). They also hold art exhibitions, stage shows and have a global marketing firm so people like Mr. Saban can get Toei licensed properties for international television.
Toho Co. LTD.
Tumblr media
Ticker #: TYO 9602
Dividend (Late 2017): 0.11 USD per share
Dividend Yield (Late 2017): 0.73%
Price: 33 USD (Late 2017)
Product: Godzilla, Mothra and various popular Kaiju characters. The now defunct Chouseishin series.
The House of Godzilla is a proud company that dates back to the early 20th century and one of the most respected Japanese film studios in Hollywood thanks to being one of the studios that supported the projects of film legend Akira Kurosawa.
As far as what it does, Toho has its own chain of movie theaters, an animation studio division that makes popular hits like My Hero Academia, a TV production company, Real estate, a movie studio, a theatrical play production studio and film production and special effects studios. They also hold the film distribution rights to many popular anime such as the globally beloved Pokemon series which gives them a slight edge on the competition. In recent years, Toho is adapting to the times in a good way by reviving Godzilla on the big screen and expanding into the market of online streaming/sales distribution. This has resulted in great financial growth in the past 2 years that could go on if Godzilla’s box office takes for both the Japanese and US film series continue and further expansion into the internet through digital distribution and partnerships with licensing to companies like Netflix. Proof that the King of Monsters can still pack a mighty roar!
Bandai Namco Group
Tumblr media
Ticker #: TYO 7832
Dividend (Late 2017): 0.11 USD per share
Dividend Yield (Late 2017): 0.62%
Price (Late 2017): 34-35 USD per share Lowest price in 2017 was 27 USD
Owns: Digimon and various video game franchises, has partial ownership of Ishimori Productions though absorbing a large money sharehold of that company in 2007 (Ishimori Pro is still family operated though through Akira Onodera).
Toy Licenses: Seemingly Almost EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN. Star Trek, Marvel, DC, Ultraman, WWE, Dragon Ball Z, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Metal Heroes, Sailor Moon, Gundam etc.
Easily the largest behemoth in Japan’s toy industry and now owner of the company that made Pac-Man among other things, Bandai is only spared from being compared to a maniacal corporate super villain in terms of power by having its global competitors live in harmony with it.
It produces in toy manufacturing of various types including model kits, DX toys, card games, premium collectibles, stuffed animals, Sofubi, electronic toys and video games. It also owns a few theme parks, manufactures arcade game cabinets, makes movies, TV and music, owns a trucking company, has a bakery to sell seasonal food stuffs online to customers, gashapon vending machines, clothing...They also own the famed animation studio Sunrise and have their own media distribution network. Yeah, Bandai is scary big!
However, that large amount of corporate product diversity and business means potentially that Bandai is stable and safe in most situations. If one falters, another could spring Bandai’s finances back on its feet. Bandai has recently expanded its global operations by opening a Premium website in the USA to sell adult collectible toys directly to customers online. So there is definitely growth potential!
Tohokushinsha Film Corporation
Tumblr media
Ticker #: TYO 2329
Dividend (Late 2017): 0.14 USD per share
Dividend Yield (Late 2017): 2.52%
Price (Late 2017): 6.79 USD
Product: The Garo Series
Tohokushinsha Film Corporation or TFC for short is the distributor of the Garo Series. While Garo creator Keita Amemiya has his own studio, Crowd Inc., to produce the show, it is a private company with no stock investments. So the best way to invest in Garo is to support TFC. While Garo is the thing they are most proud of, TFC’s core business is being a film dubbing house for Hollywood movies, taking the dialogue and translating it so the moviegoers in Japan can understand what the heck people like Harrison Ford are saying in their own language. Its other core business is film archiving and storage.
Owning TFC includes these sectors: TV/film production, special effects studios, Marketing firms, TV commercial ad companies, Cable TV (red flag!), Supermarkets, a furniture store chain, a beauty salon chain, a brewery, anime production, moichandising sales and home video sales. They also have a licensing firm in Los Angeles, CA called Cente Service (which presumably is how Kraken Releasing got the rights to those shiny Blu-Rays of Garo Season 1!).
TFC is cheap compared to the others. But cheaper stocks below $10 always have higher risk in some capacity depending on company performance, so be careful!
Shochiku LTD.
Tumblr media
Ticker #:TYO 9601
Dividend: 0.26 USD per share  (Does not make payments quarterly)
Dividend Yield: 0.35%
Price: 150 USD
What you are Toku investing in: Ultraman films
Shochiku is the toughest of the film studios in Japan, as it has been around since 1895!  Don’t believe me? This one Kabuki theater company turned film studio has survived the following: the end of the Meiji Era, World War II, US occupation, several earthquakes, changing technology, and stared down a near bankruptcy without even flinching. You know you have something special when a 122 year old company is still profitable and still growing. While they now focus on movies and media, Shochiku did not abandon their heritage as the Kabuki theater company that built it is still in operation, now expanded to doing other stage plays. Their core film business is Samurai movies, dramas and action/crime dramas
Shochiku owns movie theaters, a music record company, a film studio, an anime production unit, several stage theater companies including a costume department, real estate, restaurants, home video distribution, TV broadcasting etc. They also hold the rights to film distribution of the Ultraman movies.
Stock is a bit pricier, but it has had decent growth the past 3 years.

Owns: The Tomica Hero series, Transformers (co-partnership with Hasbro), Tomica toy cars
Takara Tomy is a famed toy brand thanks to the popularity of its products like Transformers and Beyblade. Recently, the company threw their hats back into the TV tokusatsu ring by making the magical girl series Idol x Warriors Miracle Tunes to compete with Bandai/Toei’s Pretty Cure Series.
While beloved, the grim shadow of Japan’s declining birth rate is making investors wary of Takara Tomy as their target demographic is younger kids. This leaves them in a very vulnerable position if Japan’s birth rate screeches to a complete halt, as no new babies means no future toddlers or preschoolers to ask parents to buy their products like PlaRail. Another blow to them recently is the loss of their long running Pokemon toy license to a rival company which will start selling their own toys in 2018.
Some meanspirited money men are even speculating Hasbro will just buy out Takara’s ownership of Transformers and ditch the remains if they sink. However, not all is gloom and doom as things seem to be doing better this year. Time will tell if this toy company, one half of which is one of the oldest toy manufacturers in Japan, will endure. In the meantime, give it some love so maybe we can get the Tomica Hero series back! (holding a large amount of stocks gives you voting power over who leads the company after all!)
Takara Tomy’s main business is of course toy manufacturing. It also deals in the making of baby products, children’s books, video games, gashapon toys, candies and various other youth marketed goods and apparel.

Owns: Funimation, therefore indirectly owns the distribution rights to the Garo anime.
Now, I know what you are thinking. Sony? Well, yeah. Given a very recent event, this counts. See just a week ago, Sony officially bought Funimation. And Funimation had a deal with MAPPA to buy the streaming rights to the Garo animes. Plus, Funimation was in the middle of simulcasting Infini-T Force when it happened! In addition, the company is a major partner with Bandai and Ishimori Pro in making Kamen Rider video games for its Playstation family of game consoles like the hotly anticipated Climax Fighters game.
The company is often overlooked for bigger tech stocks like Apple, but they are so much more than a video game company. In addition to consumer electronics, the Sony corporation has a movie studio (which is debated in merit due to the quality of some of their productions) a TV studio in LA that produces shows and beloved TV game show staples Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, an animation studio and that is just the visual media part.
They have semiconductor manufacturing plants, record labels and music distribution, Networking, medical firms, insurance, banking, telecommunications, advertising....In short, Sony is one of the most diverse businesses in the entire world and a worthy addition to a portfolio.
And now one NOT to invest in...
Fields Corp.

Yield: 2.62%
Owns: Part of Tsuburaya Productions, the company that makes Ultraman. Also has a stake in HEROS, the manga magazine that distributes the Infini-T force, ULTRAMAN and Kamen Rider Kuuga manga.
As of this year...this stock is not worth your time. Fields is in trouble right now as the reports of its financials indicate a hard time. The company has lost a big chunk of its yearly income. It is in the negative in terms of debt in some areas and it is reporting major losses. Its primary business is Pachinko machines.
Figures, a company that invests on gambling would go down this year!
So there you have it, places you can support tokusatsu in the world of finance!
I know this was probably boring, but I promise the next post will be fun!

Used Mitsubishi Triton sets the benchmark for value
Dual-cab utes are going more upmarket and so are the prices, but Mitsubishi’s updated workhorse lets you have all the bells and whistles at an affordable price.
Mitsubishi has sold boatloads of Tritons by offering a reliable, capable, comfortable ute at prices that undercut rivals by up to over R250K.Before the 2019 update, dealers were flogging the 2018 Triton GLX dual-cab 4WD at a crazy price. They’ve still got a few left, so they’re unloading them at the same price and throwing in factory “run-out” bonus. That’s as cheap as a big name brand one-tonner gets.In Triton’s case, cheap doesn’t mean nasty. In most respects, the Mitsubishi can hold its own in this class, even against the top-selling Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux.
Value
Aggressive drive-away discounting makes Mitsubishi’s list prices meaningless. The 2019 update retained the 2.4-litre turbo diesel and six-speed manual. A new six-speed automatic replaced the 2018 model’s five-speeder.Mitsubishi’s Super Select set-up, also carried over, allows for bitumen operation in rear or all-wheel drive (with an open centre differential) plus off-road running with the centre diff locked in high and low-range.It’s supplemented on 2019 Tritons with selectable drive and traction control modes including gravel, mud/snow, sand and rock. Hill descent control is also standard on the GLS and the GLS Premium adds a locking rear diff. The obvious change for 2019 is a new front end. Apparently the previous model didn’t look tough enough. I’m not sure exactly what tough is supposed to look like but in the one-tonner world, it’s become a variation on the super-size American pick-up look: “If I run into you, you will die.”
Comfort
Mitsubishi claims improved rear-end compliance but it’s still very stiff and the ride is harsh and unsettled compared with Navara, Ranger and Amarok.
Fit, finish and materials in the cabin get a noticeable lift in quality, there’s plenty of handy storage, USB/HDMI sockets and a rake and reach the adjustable steering wheel, still absent in most rivals. A digital speedo is missing.
Infotainment includes digital radio and voice control — which in the test car didn’t respond correctly to most requests — plus Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, to which you must connect your phone if you want on-screen navigation.
Tall blokes in the elevated rear seat will test headroom and legroom. Kids will be comfortable and content. Two USBs plus roof vents are provided.
Safety
Mitsubishi goes big on driver-assist safety tech for 2019 and the GLS is now a class leader, with autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and lane departure warning standard. Toyota’s HiLux SR5 has none of these features.
The GLS Premium adds 360-degree camera coverage and parking sensors.
Driving
The Mitsubishi Triton for sale has a spot in the pack here, with some newer rivals upping performance and refinement benchmarks while also claiming 3500kg towing capacity.
In reality, no one-tonner can legally pull 3500kg at maximum gross vehicle mass. The Triton’s claimed maximum towing capacity of 3100kg becomes a legal maximum 2985kg at GVM. That’s actually more than most rivals in 3500kg fantasyland. Maximum payload is 912kg.
The 2.4 lacks the immediate off-idle grunt of larger engines, and with peak torque arriving at a relatively high 2500rpm, it can take a moment or three to get down to business.
On boost it’s strong enough, acceptably refined and, in cruise mode, quite efficient, returning 7-8L/100km at a steady 100km/h.
However, its small capacity means that in moderately challenging conditions the Mitsubishi has to work hard, so consumption can spike into the low-mid teens.
Six ratios are enough for any diesel and Mitsubishi’s transmission does the job without fuss. Paddles are provided if you disagree with its selection or timing.
Handling is free of notable vices. Off-road, it’s all too easy thanks to 220mm of clearance and PHD (press here, dummy) 4WD software.
The stiff suspension can produce a jolting, unpleasant experience in rutted low-range terrain, where the Triton tends to pogo from one rocky outcrop to the next.
Super Select’s ability to run all-wheel-drive on-road gives the Mitsubishi an extra measure of grip and security in the rain. Rivals with part-time 4WD/rear-wheel drive only (on bitumen), inevitably shod with class-standard, less-than-sticky rubber, tend to rely on traction control to keep the back end tidy under acceleration.
Verdict
The used Triton’s super-sharp pricing sells itself at Group 1 Mitsubishi, especially when Mitsubishi goes hard on discount deals. A so-so drive but it’s safe, reliable and cheap to run. Work or play, used Triton is the one-tonner value benchmark.

Nissan NP200 Is A Trustworthy & Affordable Bakkie
After years of success with the Nissan 1400, Nissan introduced the competitive NP200! As if it couldn’t get better than this LVC vehicle, we took the design to new heights.
The benefits of owning a Nissan NP200
The Nissan NP200 has quickly become a popular choice for both younger and older generations. And it’s no surprise why Nissan customers are happy, loyal supporters.
Nissan continues to offer customers the best-in-quality and price when comparing vehicles. With that being said, they do not compromise on safety, comfortability or durability.
This youthful vehicle provides customers with a modern, visually appealing vehicle that can easily and efficiently transport heavy loads without having to spend an arm and a leg.
The practical design of the Nissan NP200
When people think about a bakkie, they often think about the bulky elements to it. For example, an aggressive-looking vehicle that is designed for people who merely want to drive into the bush or transport heavy equipment for work. But thankfully, the NP200 exceeds all expectations. Although it includes the traits mentioned above, it is incredibly appealing in looks. With its modern interior and sleek exterior, it’s no surprise that this design has become a firm favourite across the globe. At first glance, the NP200 features a large grille on the front bumper with a proud Nissan badge slammed on the middle, a clean overall look and a payload that can transport up to 800kgs. Internally, we have taken a simplistic approach that includes all the features that matter – adding convenience to your drive.
Nissan NP200 performance
Depending on which type of engine you choose, you will experience power. The NP200 model has a 1.6-litre engine which develops 85 hp at 5500 rpm. While it might not compete against bigger models such as the Nissan Navara, it certainly tops the light commercial vehicle (LCV) category. You are able to tow weight up that ranges up to 800kgs, with a 128Nm torque achieved from 3000rpm. In addition to these engine specs, it’s important to consider the impressive fuel consumption the NP200 offers.
Best-in-class Nissan NP200 fuel consumption
The price you pay for the quality you get is mind-blowing!
It’s not often that you find a compact workhorse bakkie that is able to conquer any task and take you to new heights for less. The all-new Nissan NP200 is budget-friendly, meaning that it is an ideal fleet vehicle for business purposes and even for your personal use.
Depending on the engine you choose to purchase, you can choose between a 1.5dCi diesel engine and a 1.6-litre engine. Both options are a 5-speed manual, with the main difference being the fuel consumption. However, as it stands, both engines are fuel-efficient and have the stamina to achieve any task. And fast. The petrol model offers 8+ litres per 100kms and the diesel model offers 5.3 litres per 100kms. You will have the chance to experience a 5-speed manual in both diesel and petrol. The NP200 petrol engine models come with a fuel consumption figure of 8.0 or 8.1 l/100km. And, even more impressive, the NP200 diesel engine models come with fuel consumption of 5.3 l/100km.
NP200 models to choose from
When buying a Nissan NP200, you’ll be spoiled for choice.
With seven NP200 models to explore, you are bound to find a vehicle that complements your lifestyle and driving needs. From standard to upgraded models, with the latest trims and accessories. With various accessories and trims to choose from, you can really drive in style. The vehicles come equipped with either a 1.6-litre petrol or a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. Both offer customers incredible fuel-efficiency, a robust 5-speed manual transmission and performance control for less!
Nissan NP200 specifications
Innovation is at the heart of the Nissan brand. Customers know that Nissan is forever trying to offer its customers the best-in-class quality and service that will contribute to a memorable experience.
Jumping behind the wheel of an NP200 is an all-new experience. While it might look aggressive and rugged on the outside, it is modern and stylish inside. Dressed in the latest interior and exterior features that are unique to Nissan, this vehicle is practical, versatile and aesthetically appealing, to say the least. Also, it comes equipped with advanced safety features – some of which are add-on accessories that are worth every penny.
Considering the repair and maintenance costs of owning an NP200, you will also be spoiled for choice as these are affordable on your pocket. “According to data by the Kinsey report, some of the best cars to buy in terms of replacement parts are the Toyota Corolla Quest, the Citroën Cactus, the Toyota Fortuner, the Tata Xenon, the Nissan NP200 or the Peugeot 208.” – Times Live.
Its 800kg payload is only what you can gather from the outside. Once you step inside, you will be pleasantly surprised to see that this compact vehicle is exceptionally spacious. With plenty of cabin and food space, there is also storage space behind each seat. This certainly helps when road tripping across the country. As it stands, the standard vehicle offers the most important necessities to help improve your driving experience– for example, air-conditioning, central locking and power steering.

At the end of the day, your needs are what is important to us at Nissan.

Canopies are practical bakkie accessories that can assist you in keeping your tools or loads dry and safe. Luckily, the Nissan NP200 models offer a variety of different canopies which include commercial, half door, half-ton, and low-line canopies.
What are the variants of the Nissan NP200?
When choosing the best Nissan NP200 for your needs, there are five petrol and two diesel models to choose from. All of these are available to purchase in South Africa. The only difference between the five petrol vehicles are the accessories and trims, and vice versa for the two petrol options. Drivers can look forward to a standard base 1.6 8V or a 1.6 8V base A/C petrol variant, 1.6 8V base A/C with safety pack petrol variant, a 1.6 16V diesel variant or a 1/5dCi high spec Nissan NP200 diesel variant.
Which safety features does the Nissan NP200 offer?
Nissan puts safety first and ensures that vehicles meet or exceed safety regulations. The NP200 standard range comes equipped with ventilated disc front brakes, rear drum brakes, safety steering columns, anti-theft and Data Dot identification technology. If you look at upgraded accessories and trims, you can invest in additional features such as anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and central locking.
Is the Nissan NP200 reliable?
Absolutely! This vehicle is one of the most hardwired vehicles in its market range. This iconic design is reliable, economical and offers drivers a 15 000km service interval. You can also choose their service plan that comes with a 6-year/150 000km standard or anti-corrosion warranty to ensure that you are safe.
How much weight can an NP200 transport?

Backpack (Final Rose AU Snippet)
Diana had learned very quickly that she didn’t need a backpack. Why? Because her Semblance was the greatest backpack ever. She called her Semblance ‘Bag of Tricks’, and it was basically a special subspace pocket just for her.
Her mommy had told her that the more she used it, so long as she didn’t push it too hard, then the bigger it would get. So Diana was always putting stuff in it.
A lot of the stuff in there was food. For some reason, food never went stale in there. She could even put something when it was hot, and when she pulled it out again, it would be just as hot as when she’d put it in! That meant she always had a mug of hot cocoa around, as well as hot soup, and even toasted marshmallows!
She also put in anything she found interesting. Like, if she found a cool-looking rock, she’d put it in. Or maybe if she saw an interesting stick, she’d put it in too. It didn’t matter what she put in or when she put it in, she could always pull it out again, and she could always pull out what she wanted, even if she wasn’t always sure what it was she wanted in the first place. It was like her Semblance could read her mind.
When she started making stuff - because making stuff was awesome, and her mommy let her make all kinds of cool things - she started putting the stuff she made in her Semblance too. She had drones in there, little robots, a bumper car, and lots of other stuff. But her Semblance really got handy when she realised that all those trips to the dump to find spare parts would be a lot easier if she just shoved whatever she needed into her Semblance.
But even if she didn’t need a backpack, Diana still brought one to school. It was a Gary backpack, and she liked the way it looked, plus her Semblance could freak people out. Lots of people thought it was weird to see her pull stuff out of thin air. Her parents had also spoken to her teachers, and Diana wasn’t allowed to use her Semblance to smuggle candy into class any more.
When Diana had first started stuffing stuff into her Semblance, she’d barely been able to fit more than what could fit in a normal backpack for a little kid. That had been two ago. Now? She could fit a bus into her Semblance, and she barely even felt the strain.
One time, the school bus broke down, and they couldn’t find a tow truck, so Diana just put it in her Semblance. When they got back to school, she pulled it out, and a tow truck came to tow it away.
It could be handy in other ways too. If her parents were in a rush when they were shopping, she could just put everything into her Semblance and then take it out when they got home. It was a lot easier than packing and unpacking the car.
When Diana was ten, a Grimm tried to eat her. She did the only thing she could think of since it was a very ancient Grimm, one impervious to most forms of weaponry, and it was too close for her to use anything really big to hit it with.
She dropped a truck on it with her Semblance.
The truck was a broken down wreck that she was stripping for parts in her spare time to use in her drones, but it still weighed several tonnes. It didn’t kill the Grimm, but it definitely slowed it down.
She dropped another two trucks on it.
That did the job.
It was then that Diana reached an epiphany. Dropping stuff on Grimm could kill them. It was just a matter of finding something big and heavy enough to drop on them.
Instead of trucks, Diana started offering her services as a demolition specialist. Instead of demolishing a building, she’d simply store it away in her Semblance. That might have sounded ridiculous - how could her Semblance possibly store something so huge, but it made perfect sense.
She’d been four when she awakened Bag of Tricks. It had been able to store a backpack’s worth of stuff. A backpack for a girl her size at that age might have had a capacity of maybe 0.2 cubic feet. In one year, it grew enough to fit a bus, which had a volume of roughly 960 cubic feet. That was an increase of about 5000 times in the span of two years.
It had been six years since she’d awakened her Semblance. The growth rate had remained relatively unchanged.
She could now fit roughly 25 billion cubic feet of stuff into her Semblance. That was enough to fit almost a thousand of the tallest buildings in Remnant.
In other words, she could fit pretty much an unlimited amount of stuff into her Semblance.
If things kept going this way, then before she finished being a teenager, her Semblance would have a storage capacity exceeding the volume of the entire planet.
It made her wonder… if she wanted, would she be able to store the planet with her Semblance?
The only limit was her Aura. Storing stuff and taking it out took Aura, but years of constantly having her Aura active had increased the size of her Aura to a gigantic level, and her Semblance got more and more efficient every day...
When Diana was twelve, she made a very important discovery. She learned how to let time pass inside her Semblance. Using her discovery, she was able to store machines away that would continue to work while they were inside her Semblance. In the meantime, everything else stayed exactly as it was until she wanted time to pass for that stuff too.
It was amazing what she could do with dozens of factories inside her Semblance making whatever she wanted. It was really cool too since she didn’t have to worry about security. No one could reach into her Semblance and take stuff… or so she thought.
Her sister’s Semblance, Saviour, was linked to hers somehow. One time, Averia had gone to summon a sword, and she’d ended up with a piece of Gary merchandise that Diana had stored away with her Semblance.
Wherever it was that her Semblance sent stuff, it seemed like Averia could reach there too.
That made for some very, very cool possibilities…
Like Saviour wielding weaponry that Diana’s factories made… or Saviour creating material that Diana’s factories could then make use of.
Hehehehe…
The possibilities…

Author’s Notes
This version of Diana is a Diana who is the child of Vanille and Lightning (instead of Fang and Lightning). As a result, she doesn’t have Ragnarok. She has Bag of Tricks.
The bizarre interaction between Lucky Fox and Saviour gave Diana the ability to access an alternate dimension that Saviour can reach or use for various things. As Diana got older, the size of the dimension she had access to expanded, as did her control over it.
The rapidly increasing size of Bag of Tricks makes it clear that it really is an entirely alternate dimension. By the time Diana is in her mid twenties, we’re talking about a subspace big enough to fit thousands of stars the size of the sun. The only thing stopping her from doing that is that storing stuff and taking it out costs Aura, but even so… she can store an absolutely immense amount of stuff, so much stuff that it defies belief.
As an aside, this variation of Diana loses a fight to the normal Diana badly. Ragnarok’s power in combat is overwhelming, and Ragnarok could walk through buildings and what not. Plus, this version of Diana, being more like Vanille (due to being Vanille and Lightning’s daughter) is somewhat squishy compared to the practically indestructible version that comes from Fang and Lightning. Where this Diana excels in is logistics and support. It is possible that no one is stronger than her there.
It should be noted that Bag of Tricks does exist in Final Effect. One of Lightning’s descendants does indeed have a child with one of Vanille’s descendants (a long way down the line) and the combination somehow manages to produce Bag of Tricks. Since then, the Semblance has become fairly stable.
Whoever has it is generally considered an EX level threat (along with Saviour, Ragnarok, and some others). Given access to the Aura batteries and Aura generators of the distant future, they have the ability to store entire solar systems and even larger volumes away, making them absolutely devastating in combat since they have the ability transport huge amounts of factories, drones, and other things from one area to another without being detected until they pull them out and start killing everything.
Note that the Aura requirements of that are so massive that they cannot pull everything in Bag of Tricks out without the use of outside Aura resources (e.g., the aforementioned Aura batteries and Aura generators). Bag of Tricks belongs to a group of Semblances that are referred to as subspace pocket/personal dimension Semblance, and it is considered the most powerful out of all of them.
Without Aura assistance, someone with Bag of Tricks could still summon enough stuff to give even Ragnarok or Saviour a decent fight given time to prepare.
As a final aside, people with Bag of Tricks are considered Yun-Farrons for legal purposes due to the Empire wisely foreseeing the possible horror of letting the Dia-Farrons grab hold of someone who can store entire research planets and factory planets… and weapon planets...
