GIRLS LIKE BOYS LIKE ME !
how would enhypen prepare for their first date with you!
🩷 now playing - on melancholy hill by the gorillaz
🩷 contents - includes kissing! no gendered terms used but makeup is mentioned in Jake's. enha as losers who are trying their best™ on first dates
🩷 a/n - unlocked how to make gradient text im basically unstoppable now. this is my first time writing a headcanon sort of thing!! so I hope it's good. pls do reblog and leave comments - I would love to hear from readers :)
masterlist
HEESUNG would be the type to try and play it cool and then lose his mind then play it cool again like an on and off switch. He would ask Jay fashion advice super nonchalantly, but Jay would be able to see through his shit IMMEDIATELY lmao. But like the good friend Jay is, he helps Heesung pick out a cool yet not over-the-top fit. Definitely picks up flowers on the way so that they're fresh, and maybe even spritzes a bit of mouth freshener before ringing your doorbell because of course he ate onion rings before leaving the house out of nervousness •́‿,•̀
I feel like he'd take you to an arcade for a first date - not only because it gives you both bonding time while playing games, but he also gets to show off his shooter skills in those lcd zombie games (the playing league all night is coming in clutch for him right now). Definitely also the type to stand at the claw machine for half an hour trying to get you a toy. "Seung it's always rigged, come on we can play another round of ice hockey instead." "It's not about being rigged anymore Y/N. It's a matter of pride and courage. Life or death." Like boy T-T it's never that serious king. Would walk you home while you clutch a GIGANTIC bear plushie that he may or may not have bribed some poor arcade worker for while pretending he won at the totally not rigged claw machine, which was concerning, but also very sweet. Sweet enough to warrant a kiss on the cheek by the end of the date ;)
JAY would literally be the most perfect, gentleman-ly guy and just drop dead gorgeous and AHDJKD sorry my first date feels for Jay are RAGING right now. Definitely would be jittery for sure, but is calm and level-headed. I feel like he's the type to ask you out on a date very traditionally after harbouring feelings for a while, watching from afar kind of like the XO music video you know, with the flower shop? Bouquet with red or white roses are a MUST and he'd extend his arm out for you to hold while he takes you out of your house (definitely the type to charm your parents that has them pushing you out the door because that boy is PERFECT)
He would probably take you out to a restaurant or OR hear me out - an in home date where he's kicked his members out somehow and has the living room set up like a restaurant with a table with some candles and dim lighting, food he prepared (house-husband material. wife him up right NOW.) so that he could show off his cooking skills. Wonderful date, would drop you off home as well. Honestly I don't see him kissing you on the first date because of all that chivalry you know, but don't worry he's just building it up to the more perfect moment to be your perfect boyfriend.
JAKE, this happy puppy would be so SO excited he'd be counting seconds up to when he would meet you :( He's so ADORABLE he would literally tell everyone knows about how he's scored a date with the finest person alive and then would proceed to spend a whole week just grinning in happiness cuz he's going on a date with you!!! I think more than flowers, he'd get you some sort of trinket or some chocolates as a gift :D and he'd be skipping along the way. TONS of compliments about your makeup and your outfit and just you in general.
I feel like he'd have a picnic-park sort of date thing setup, bonus if you have a dog because you best believe he'd be bringing Layla along. He'd ask his mom for help and pack the most scrumptious picnic ever, and just spend a day basking in the sun with you. The evening might even end up with you both walking hand-in-hand by the riverside, just chitchatting because this boy is a pro-yapper, and just enjoying each other's presence. Wonderful date that would end in a kiss wink wink ;) because he's just so so enamoured by you that he will literally lose his mind if he lets this shot go.
SUNGHOON is a loverboy at heart - as cool and chill he may seem on the outside you best believe he's giving that smile that makes his eyes crinkle while escorting you to your date. He's sharply dressed and has received the apropos speech from his sister about first date etiquettes even though he's quite a mindful man with great manners already. I see him getting white or pink tulips for the date.
He'd take you to a - I know it's a cliché, but an ice rink!! Because it's his element, and that confidence is what he wants to show you. That he's the one for you, or at least who he's trying to be. Sunghoon may seem like a player or someone who doesn't do serious attachment but with you, it just feels different. Giggling along with you and pushing you along gently, guiding you around the contours of the ice rink has his own heart doing pirouettes. And of course as clichè this is heading already, the date concludes with an accidental kiss that happens when you slip on the ice, bringing him down with you. You're both laughing at your hopeless nonexistent skating skills and all he can do in that moment is give you a small peck on the lips that makes his pale cheeks blush violently.
SUNOO is such a sweetheart, I have a feeling you would have already been friends for a while and that his feelings for you had been garnering for a while, until he just had to tell you. And so here he is, dressed down to a tee with the help of Jay's good fashion sense, and of course adding his own personal touch to it. This smitten cutie would be going all out with the gifts, trust. With a medium sized bouquet, he would also get a box of chocolates for you and maybe something else, like a scrunchie or a charm bracelet you'd mentioned you'd been eyeing for a while to him before.
Sunoo, in my mind, seems like such a pottery date kind of guy to me. He adores creativity and spending that time to do something a bit artsy with his favourite person just sounds so cute. He would maybe make a dish bowl sort of thing for him to keep at his sink for his skincare or balms or even vitamins, while you would make a key holder or a soap box. And he'd help you out with your paints, giving you ideas on what you could make, and listening to your inputs as well. Since you both were already friends before, it's a comfortable and secure environment around you both, that just makes this sunshine boy beam more than ever possible around you. "Sun that looks great!!", you'd encourage him, as he'd just wipe away whatever flecks of paint had gotten on your hand, basking in your praise. He might even take the opportunity to hold your hand, to which you of course had no complaints.
JUNGWON is panicking and Jay and Heesung are trying their best to call him down. Panicking because he overslept on his nap to freshen up for his date. But fear not, because this is where Efficient Wonie comes in and saves the day. It's like everything that must be done becomes natural to him - it's in his second nature to buy you flowers and ring up your doorbell, flashing that all so sweet grin of his. And after calming down the raging butterflies in your stomach, you both set off on the date he's meticulously planned.
I see Jungwon as a multi-activity date kind of guy, you know? Why not get the best of all the worlds with this guy? He has the date planned in his head for months now, considering how long he's been itching to ask you out. He starts the date off with a nice, cozy cafe visit where you both can pick up some beverages to set yourselves right. Following would be a movie, something he'd find meaningful enough for a first date. And he's trying his best to focus on the movie instead of the fingertips brushing against yours inside the popcorn bucket because he needs to know the plot for the next part of the date!! Which is taking you to a small diner after the movies to talk about what you both found interesting about the film - whether it was good or bad, characters and the theme. And just from there the conversation would flow. Jungwon would be so easy to converse with that you wouldn't even know where the time has gone, until you find yourself in front of your house with him, hours past in a blink. And with how adorable his dimples look under the street lamps as you bid him goodbye, you can't help but place a sweet kiss on them as you depart, leaving him lovestruck on the street.
RIKI wants to have a bit of fun on dates. Sure movies and arcades and picnics are fun. But this boy is a ball of energy when he's around the people he likes - if it isn't obvious from the way he's around his members and their comfort. And that's how you made him feel as well, comfortable in his own skin. So much so that it warranted a date with the dance prodigy, who couldn't get you off his mind at all. He'd definitely be much more confident in this date than the others for sure, but that doesn't mean he isn't a bit nervous!! But sweet boy is more nervous about making sure you have a blast tonight with him. And with the way you're laughing and accepting the flowers he got you, placing them in a vase, those worries fade almost immediately.
Riki would take you to a town carnival or an amusement park sort of setup for a date! This teasing little shit would totally use this opportunity for poking fun at how you would scream on the faster rides like the rollercoaster, and would claim how he would "protect you" if anything did happen (like dawg this is not a fight for honor it's legit just a rollercoaster). He'd win you some prizes from the side stalls, and you'd both share a large cotton candy. Would whine about the animal ears you insisted that he wear during the duration of the date, which you had bought from a concession stand. But he would also complain when you said he doesn't have to wear it if he doesn't like it like T-T bro. The date reached its final note on the Ferris wheel, and it's not like you were scared of heights, it's just that you'd severely underestimated how high the ride went. "You can hold my hand if you're scared", Riki says jokingly. But you take the offer instantly, tightly clutching his hand as your eyes are wide and looking around as awe starts replacing the terror in your eyes. And despite the view, Riki could only look at you. Feeling his gaze on you, you turned your head around to only find yourself encaptured in a sweet and romantic kiss, surrounded by cool air miles above the ground.

their ordinary life. 🏠
i am referencing this post which was allegedly shared in 2021. i like how it’s written and the cpn clues inserted, then making a whole story out of it. a reason why most of us love lrg and other rumor anecdotes is because it’s simple and shows what their day to day life is like. tho they are celebrities with extraordinarily busy lives, the thought of them just being zz and bobo is comforting and sweet. it may be confusing cause there are parts where they are both referenced as they. and then it will switch to “i” as if in the person’s first person pov.

all of this is fake & fanfiction…
they should have a cat and a dog. everyone knows the cat's name is Tao, the dog’s name also matches the cat very well, it’s called Lizi. it’s a puppy ZZ bought it on impulse, but in the end I had to give it to my mother in Chongqing to deal with the aftermath. they have a home in Beijing, with a room full of helmets and musical instruments. there is also a room equipped with a projector, with warm and artistic decoration. when the two people are tired, they can lie here and watch movies together. there is also a big LCD TV, two people playing games to decide the outcome and doing housework.
the kitchen should be well-equipped, but the storage of materials is not alot, both of them are busy and have little time to cook, but there should be someone that makes trouble while the other person is cooking, and the other person will teach. when that person was making hand cakes, he had a headache several times and wanted to curse.
the room they sleep in, well, the bedding must be of high quality, it must be very comfortable and considerate for two people who both have the habit of sleeping naked. someone should install a night light in the toilet so that people who are afraid of the dark can get up in the middle of the night. there will be lights as soon as the toilet is near. there should be a lot of things on the bedside, eye drops, stomach-protecting tablets, Ryukakusan, cough cough... In short, both of them takes good care of your body! there will be a light fragrance in the room. they are all people who love cleanliness, maybe it’s also due to the scented candles.
there is a huge closet, which could have been used as a styling area in the beginning. one will often buy several pieces at a time and wrap them up. the other will also complain that one person loves shopping so much that he is not frugal and knows how to organize his clothes regularly. it was painful to pick out an old model to wear, and taught another person: "See, this is okay. As for clothes, save money and don’t buy so much. You still have a mortgage. ” another smiled and didn’t say anything. clothes that smell like them over time are familiar and reassuring, as if they are by each other’s side. In this way, they give each other company. Sometimes the trip is too urgent and I don’t pay much attention. both people will pack the wrong clothes into their suitcases. there should also be a small gym, where two actors and teachers can work hard. One person is envious of another's eight-pack abs, and the other possesses someone's waist (don't ask me why I know it's possible because I am a barbell. )
both of them have been doing more and more endorsements, and they have a lot of products at home. when the two brothers are in a good mood, they take one out and play with it, jokingly calling it "opening a blind box." most of the time, they kept sending them to my family, and the family group was noisy.
the two of them still can't stay at home most of the time and are always on the road. yes, headphones are a common item. why? because they are used for making phone calls and watching videos and to chat online. I took out my mobile phone to complain after getting off work. i quickly called to tell him that I miss you. people’s true emotions finally have a safe and secure place. how good is this, just wanting someone who can always listen to me in my life. you act coquettishly. you can complain and cry.
i also surfed the Internet, but I just browsed casually, after all, it was all the same rainbow fart, I want to take some time to listen to that person blowing it to me. sometimes it’s annoying to see fans quarreling. i used my account number to tell them to stop arguing, but it didn’t work. just switch to my other account and fight bravely with heizi ( antis ) and lose. until the account was suspended and blocked, then I took screenshots and felt aggrieved. he said, "Baby, look at me, I've lost another number by helping you.". The other person was amused, and he was no longer troubled by the remarks.
the other side is also keen on surfing and secretly saves a lot of emoticons, all of which are like pigs. regarding this, after I sent it, I laughed so hard that I hit the table and couldn’t stop having fun. hey, of course you can hear the voice of someone screaming on the phone: "Why does it have to be a pig?" "I'm a leopard! Not a pig! You What a stinky rabbit!”
they will take care of eating, taking medicine, drinking water, and taking care of each other when they are sick. they will take good care of each other and care for each other. if you are disobedient, it will be known immediately, and you will be punished, and then you will obey because I want to live a long with the other person. if possible, I hope it will be the same in my next life.
he will also get jealous, lose his temper and act awkward. Alas, as an actor, he is still in the entertainment industry. what can I do? Buy gifts, buy food, make phone calls. if you want to talk, send WeChat, and send some updates and stuck points that fans can’t understand.
In the end, I still couldn't coax him, so I could only study how to fight authentically and run to see the other party. the time is very short, and you may only be able to stay in the car, room, or corner. i left after an hour or two, my temper was gone, and I kept looking at the other person. laugh, give a hug, hold hands for a walk, kiss, and talk for a long time. if it's been a long time, your eyes will inevitably turn red when you separate.
“Every time it’s so short, it’s hard to be separated, and I won’t be able to come next time.
“But I miss you.
"...I know, I'll come see you next time."
knowing that there will be an event for two people on the same stage will make them excited for a long time, and they will fall in love at public expense. love, doesn’t it feel good?
no matter what, they won’t understand the meaning of it anyway. meet backstage, eat a meal together, take ugly photos of each other while doing makeup, and fight. let’s sit together and look at our phones and chat about the current situation. the two people at the back looked right at each other when Fang doesn't speak, the staff will consciously go out and leave them alone.
think hard. I miss you even when I walk. I miss you when I sit. kiss the necklace that you bought for me, look at the blue sky and white clouds, draw a picture, then take the archeology test, and look at the other party’s dark history, snap screenshots and make emoticons and throw them over. it’s the happiness that only artists can have when they fall in love, don’t you understand~
regarding the public, the feeling of being watched by millions of people cheering and blessing that summer it’s really good. surrounded by love from all over the world, you will feel that there is nothing better than our happy couple. maybe, one day, wait for the rainbow to come. On that day, I am Lao Wang and he was Lao Xiao. We walked in front of everyone. before, he drew a story about us, told by me since I was 21 years old.

Today's vintage handheld game: Super Password
Was out thrifting and for cheap found this complete minus instructions handheld Tiger Electronics 'Super Password' game from 2000, which is based on the TV gameshow "Password" that in its heyday (1961-1975) featured Betty White's husband Allan Ludden as the host... and she was a guest 186 times. (Yes, I am aware Jimmy Fallon has brought a new iteration of the game back to TV in the present tense but does anyone really care?)

A fascinating post hides below.
It was in pretty good condition other than how the previous owner didn't wash his/her hands before playing, so I had to do a bunch of scrubbing with window cleaner, paper towels, and a tiny screwdriver to get in the crevices. Now if only I had some good AA batteries (3) I'd really be enjoying it, the ones I have make the print on the LCD rather faded, but the beast does work.

One of the promotional bits about this handheld was that it uses cartridges so you can expand the question base. The back of the package even showed two more cartridges:

But here's the kicker: When I was trying it out with batteries after all that cleaning, I forgot to put the cartridge back in... but it played anyway! There is a proper jack on the game unit, but there are no 'fingers' on the cartridge which comes with the unit that the jack would be connecting to. On a hunch I pulled out the four screws on the cartridge and two on the PC board and...

IT'S A DUMMY PCB. All questions are coming from internal memory, but it is built for expandability. A websearch though has not revealed any of those cartridges shown on the package as existing!!
A note to the guy trying to sell the pack-in pretend cartridge for $5 on eBay, which is more than what I paid for the game: Nice, but it's cosmetic.

450 dollars. no games (so really, 530 dollars before tax). determined before tariffs. using an LCD instead of an OLED screen os we're definitely getting some Switch 2 Supreme shit later. a whole button on taht 530 dollar console's controller that has no functionality unelss you're paying another $3 per month/$20 a year purely for online functionality in your already 80 dollar game. joycons don't use hall effect so fuck knows what the drift negation they're trying will be, if anything at all, they could say fuck it and refuse to design their joycons in a way to fix that issue. you'll buy the $70 controller packs anyway. this industry needs to crash

Handheld LCD Shader Projects
Welcome to the introduction of a collection of the handheld LCD shaders that emulates the colorspace and LCD metrics from the offical handheld gaming consoles. Ranging from Gameboy Color to the PSP being the main focus for emulating the displays from their colorspace to specified gamma and color temperatures. Most users would be playing Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance in raw RGB on emulators as well as on the Gameboy Player, and that's totally cool. Playing these games on the backlit displays have been much easier to see the game you're playing than ones without any light on the LCDs. Heck, even having much better contrast that gives off darker blacks, or even perfect blacks from OLEDs. However, once you start playing some of those games, you can really see something off from those games from your childhood handheld consoles, most prominent, the Gameboy Color and the Gameboy Advance. Those screens are really different from modern displays we use on a daily basis, on every single specifications. GBC and GBA would look too saturated and odd color hues in a lot of games, under raw RGB picture. In GBA's case, a lot of games can have lighter gamma that looks overbrightened in raw RGB, since those were only calibrated for the old GBA screens that has darker gamma. Oversaturation from those games were also calibrated for these older displays that has less saturation. This project is meant to replicate the colors and gamma from the real console model, to any project, such as emulators, Gameboy Interface, scalers like the Retrotink 4K, LCD mods, and HDMI/FPGAs projects. It would allow users to pick any shaders or LUT textures to replicate the LCD color display to your preferred way to play games beyond pure original hardware. Of course, there is also Nintendo DS from the first model, the DS Lite, Gameboy SP AGS-101 (Backlit version), Gameboy Micro, and the PSP on its first model, as of current. The project is also meant to preserve the display data and metrics from those handhelds.
(GBC shader preset with default settings)
(GBA shader preset with default gamma, and LUT set to "2" for colder greyscale)
(NDS shader preset with default settings)
(PSP shader preset with LUT set to "2" for PSP's known colder greyscale)
Downloads:
Instructions: If you haven't already installed shaders, do so inside retroarch under slang shaders. After downloading my package, extract the zip file to "shaders_slang" inside Retroarch's shader folder. It can be implemented inside libretro's shader once the slang shader pack gets updated. I suggest loading the shaders by presets, under .slangp, in both Handheld and Reshade folder (latter being under the handheld-color-LUTs folder). Presets inside handheld folder has switchable settings, including presets containing LCD shaders. Presets inside reshade only loads in LUT textures rather than just shaders. Useful for emulators or projects that only loads in LUT textures as their only filter.
The shaders is based on HunterK's shader, Color-Mangler from the misc folder in slang shaders from Libretro, which was made from a help for my project. It defaults to sRGB on the shader's option for many average users. A shader preset from Handheld folder has LUT choices to change the greyscale color temperature replicated from the real handheld console. GBA one can adjust the gamma to make the image darker, while GBC and GBM has gamma option to brighten or darken. In Reshade, it only had adjustable greyscale temperature except for GBA_GBC variant. The shader supports DCI-P3 and Rec2020 colorspaces on its option to use on your display that may support either of those to reach better color saturation to present more accurate blue primary color from my shaders that common sRGB colorspace is limited from. The GBA and GBC have external gamma options to adjust the gamma on the greyscales if not using any LUT shader preloaded.
Developer notice: For developers of any GB/GBA (or any handheld) projects involving emulators, FPGAs, or screen mods, shall take some advices when it comes to implementing the shader or color filter to your projects. To implement as a shader, the gamma has to be lower first by 1/2.2 (Can be used to change the GBA gamma itself to darken the screen), then use my color values from the shader to change the color primaries, and then revert the gamma by 2.2 afterwards to have great color correction while respecting luminance and color tones. Also I prefer if you take color values from white balance correction that are outside of GBC/GBA shader. For only LUT texture, a more easy approach for devs, I prefer using the non-cold variants if preserving the greyscale color tone. GBA and GBC LUTs have their gamma and greyscale adjusted to emulate the screen's default gamma. If you only want just the color gamut correction as an LUT, use the GBA_GBC variant inside Reshade's LUT folder. -If you decide to implement a basic GBC or GBA colorspace to the emulator, use the sRGB data. The gamma change must happen before the color correction. -If the project is aimed for TV such as Gameboy Interface or GBA Consolizer, use the sRGB LUT shader, since SD and HDTV resolutions aim for sRGB colorspace. -If the FPGA such as Analogue Pocket, IPS screen mods, or emulation device uses a display gearing towards sRGB colorspace, use the shader, color filter, or LUT accordingly. -If the OLED screen mods or emulation devices have its native colorspace target around 100% DCI-P3 Volume, use any filter accordingly. -If implementing the shader to your emulation project, do port the shader to your shader or filter libraries. The shader and LUTs are in public domain after all, to spread about the color correction regarding GBC/GBA displays. -If using a professional scaler like Retrotink 4K with either GBA Consolizer or Gameboy Interface without any filters used, play with its gamut matrix settings for both GBC and GBA as "Red: 0.4925 0.3100" "Green: 0.3150 0.4825" "Blue 0.1625 0.1925" to emulate the color correction, and can be used on SDR or HDR mode to give out consistent image. Gamut info for other consoles below.

(Bottom: GBA; Raw RGB, GBA-SP AGS-101, and GBA with darken set to 0)
Note: While DS-Lite and SP-101 are really close to sRGB that developers don't really need adjustments, it is shown to preserve on how far they reached from older models to newer ones in mid to late 2000s.
Story:
So when did I start the project and why I was invested in doing this? It was back in August 2014 when I first saw a forum on someone wanting to desaturate the GBA and mentioned the filters from emulators like VisualBoyAdvance, or VBA-M, as well as NO$GBA that has options to emulate the colorspace that is close to the real hardware. I was reminded how the latter emulator has those options when I used it long time ago. I mostly use unfiltered colors as that was how close it looks on my GBA-SP with "Better Screen" than the GBA. Yeah I actually have the backlit version of GBA-SP known as AGS-101. The display was a huge jump from old GBA to GBA-SP, as well as the Nintendo DS Phat under GBA. However, I had good amount of memories of playing my old GBA with the lights around me and I do remember the color saturation being very different overall. So I wanted to take a look on how to replicate the VBA-M's colorspace.
(Link to the forum I created of my histories of re-creating the GBA colors)
I first decide to use simple desaturation with a mix of shaders by playing with saturation and contrast levels. At first, it looks very similar to how VBA-M's attempt looked. That is, until I saw the blue color has a different hue, being more torqourise in VBA-M's recreation. Then a LUT shader appeared in libretro forums and I first used that for my photoshop to use crazy amount of filters to recreate the whole thing, even though it wasn't perfect, but close. Then I tried to replicate the original NDS model that I have for many years, and also played with the LUT textures from Photoshop. Yeah I just simply tried to copy the colors from the console, without any tools, on my uncalibrated old LCD TN panel screen, because I had such no experience on how colorspaces work, but it was worth a try. Then in 2015, I somehow found a shader that plays with RGB and I got help with Hunterk, a contributor on Libretro who has been involved with a lot of shaders for Retroarch. He made an amazing color mangler shader for me to put data of colors and gamma on the shader itself than just using a LUT texture. Then in May of 2015, I found another GBA on my house that was not used by a family for a long time. Yeah I lost my GBA somehow as a kid from another family, but a long story to tell. Thankfully I was allowed to use another GBA for full use just for this project. This was just the beginning of my progress on grabbing screen data starting with just a flashlight with my old LCD monitor. The only issue I always have is the common sRGB screens don't have deep blue colors that is needed for both GBA and NDS (and more), so I always had issues replicating the blue primary color. That's what got me to start learning about colorspace and what sRGB and color gamut means. And that's where my progress to get the right tools begins. I then later got a superior IPS 1080p monitor, the GBC, Colormunki Display, using DisplayCal and HCFR, Colormunki Photo, the PSP, GBA Micro, a 4K monitor, and a portable light to use on GBC and GBA. Now in 2024, I have really progressed with help of such tools I need, have become much better way of getting the LCD data from the handhelds to contain the color gamut, the greyscale, gamma, and color temperature.
So now the story is out of the way, here are the tools I used to gather infos from the handheld screens.
Samsung S80AU - A 4K IPS Monitor that supports DCI-P3 colorspace with great Delta Error scores especially for sRGB colorspace. It's also used to test out LCD shaders on a high DPI display. Colormunki Display - A Colorimeter that calibrates your display and gathers color data from your target screen. Colormunki Photo - A Spechrometer that behaves the same as Display, except gathers the white colors temperatures more accurately regardless on any type of LCD or OLED displays. It's used to make profiles for the Display to be calibrated for a specific monitors as the Display reads data much faster than Photo as well as reading darker blacks better. Displaycal has infos on colormeter matrix correction to add in why this combo is best used for serious color calibration. It's also used primarily for handheld console displays to sample color data. DisplayCal - Used to completely calibrate my monitor and other screens to give off pure sRGB colorspace with 6500K whitepoint. It's also used with its own ICC Profile creator to make .icc with given data from ColorHCFR for a specific Handheld Console display to emulate from. It's 3DLUT tool was also used to generate LUT textures to check the color and luminance on primary and secondary colors. ColorHCFR - A free alternative for Calman. It's used to gather data on the greyscale, the color gamut, and tons more info to check how your targeted display looks. It shows you graphical images of the screen's color gamut on the CIE diagram. MCH2 - A tool that used your generated DisplayCal monitor calibration data to create an .icc profile made for Windows 11 to convert the entire screen to your targeted colorspace such as sRGB and DCI-P3. G2 Pocket RGB Camera Light - A portable light that shoots out lights to use on handhelds that lacks any light, such as the Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance. It toggles between RGB and pure whitelights with color temperature adjustments. It's used to match the whitepoint on both GBC and GBA to match my monitor's whitepoint as the closest. It's much better tool than me previously using my collection of phones to use the flashlight for color sampling, as GBC and GBA suffers from rainbowing, no adjustments on white balance, and less saturation by a flashlight, unlike proper lights like the G2 Pocket that eliminates those issues. 240p Test Mini - The handheld version of the well known 240p Test Suite. Used to check RGB, greyscale, motion flickering, and color scrolling on real hardware. https://github.com/pinobatch/240p-test-mini EZ Flash Jr - A GB/GBC Flashcarts to load ROMs and Homebrew for GBC and GBA. EZ Flash 3-in-1 Expansion Pack NDS - A GBA Cartridge to load in a ROM and homebrew in to load inside GBA and NDS. Used NDS to insert a ROM on its NOR memory. GIMP - A Photoshop-like image editor that is used to check generated LUTs from 3DLUT to check on the color values to adjust the shader. Retroarch - Using mGBA and Sameboy emulator core to check out the games while using the shaders I created for color correction. It also loads in image files for my best way to check out my shaders during adjustments.
(Top to Bottom: gba-color & gbc-color, gbMicro-color, nds-color, psp-color, DSLite-color, SP101-color, and raw RGB, all in sRGB)
Note: Why the white color is darker is due to clipping on the yellow color because of how color correction works with the blue color being out of sRGB gamut. Also, sRGB can't display those handhelds blue saturation due to it. Will soon post DCI-P3 and Rec2020 variants for displays that can see more saturation without internal color adjustments.
List of handheld consoles I owned to create shaders out of: Gameboy Color Gameboy Advance Gameboy Advance SP (AGS-101) Gameboy Micro Nintendo DS Nintendo DS Lite PSP (1000)
Nintendo Switch Online emulates GBC and GBA with their own color filters. GBA only desaturates the screen in more simple manner for sRGB, which was easy to implement. GBC, was very hard to do in shaders currently, so to use full experience, the LUT version can only be used to fully emulate the effect for other emulators.
I also found someone's Switch OLED data from a youtube video. The colorspace is taken with bigger saturation than even DCI-P3 when using vivid mode. Here's a link to the video by GamingTech:
youtube
I also made Palm Treo 700p shader long time ago by taking DisplayMate's data long ago while trying to translate the gamut pin points to HCFR since I don't have those in possession. I only made it for experiment long ago and only archived.
Replicating existing filters from emulators or dev tools such as No&GBA and VBA-M for GBA image replication, and GBC tools like Gameboy HiColour Converter V1.2 for GBC image replications. Even No$GBA and No$GMB docs had mentioned the LCD color differences:
(HiColour Convertor)
My Handheld LCD review datasheet and showcase for each platform (Coming Soon):
Gameboy Color Gameboy Advance Gameboy Advance SP AGS-101 Gameboy Micro Nintendo DS (Phat) Nintendo DS Lite PSP-1000
Handheld consoles I plan on getting and make data out of: PSP-3000 or GO PS Vita Nintendo 3DS (Owned, but not yet examined)
Handhelds I don't plan on getting or reviewing: Gameboy or Gameboy Pocket (Many have made their own shaders and filters out of their monochromic display) Gameboy Advance SP AGS-001 (Uses the same exact display as the original GBA except with frontlight added) Knockoff GB Boy Colour (I only allow any official handheld consoles for my project) PSP-2000 (Same colorspace and data as PSP-1000, except brighter screen) PS-Vita 2000 (Uses LCD instead of OLED, with less color gamut than original PS Vita) Nintendo NEW 2DS XL/3DS (or XL) IPS displays (Hard to find and a lottery to obtain; not common) Nintendo Switch (Owned and targets sRGB and its gamma well; whitepoint can vary between units)
Notes: On GBA, A lot of games are calibrated for the GBA's gamma due to how dark its screen's gamma looks. For some games, often Nintendo and a couple of companies with closest relationship to Nintendo, are adjusted for its colorspace. Certain games, often SNES ports, may have its original palettes on its setting. On GBC, many games were made for the screen during its run. It's unknown which amount of games weren't calibrated for the screen. Although certain games like Link's Adventure DX were completely adjusted for the screen on colorspace, gamma, and color temperature, which made purple-grey colors looks more grey overall. On both NDS and PSP, pretty often the first few years of games can be adjusted for those screens. Those are until both NDS-Lite and PSP-3000 have colorspace that closely aims for sRGB where no adjustments can be made. Many multi-ports for PSP of the same game from home consoles are very likely not calibrated for the first two PSP models. I didn't make a Switch OLED preset (from Vivid mode) with LCD shader, since the Switch OLED is not LCD, its RGB pattern is very different, and either original LCD or OLED are too high resolution to notice its RGB patterns. It's best to use only the shader to use with Reshade on a Switch emulator to emulate the OLED's vivid mode, but preserved in Libretro to see its effect. While I explain what the shaders are meant to use for, it's also your preference on using the shaders or just using the Raw RGB colors that fits your needs. You can use other color shaders on a GBA or GBC emulator, such as using NDS, Micro, or PSP shaders to your preference. The PSP shaders have much more saturation than any Gameboy line or NDS Phat, while preserving its hue.
To end off on this page, I would also like to give respect to other projects that tried their attempt to create their own color correction. While I prefer the best accuracy of the color correction from my shaders, many of their color corrections are pretty impressive with varying degree levels of accuracy, and they all motivate me to continue with the project to give out the best quality of color correction. Their blogs have pretty interesting ideas on how displays work on GBC and GBA.

Nemona the Unrivaled
Chapter 2: An Open Window
Info / Chapter Select: here
Nemona and her Cyclizar zoomed down the dirt road through the beautiful Poco Path, past its assorted curious little wild Pokemon, accompanied by the considerably less beautiful slapping sound of Cyclizar’s rubbery paw pads...
When there was a violet flash in the sky above.
A strange shiny purple thing with what looked like yellow wings or fins was falling out of the sky right towards them. A Pokemon they’d never seen before? Some kind of fallen spacecraft? An oncoming missile?! Cyclizar slowed down and backed off and Nemona shielded her face with her arm...
...But whatever it was disappeared from sight behind a cliff down to the beach, without a splash or explosion or anything -- it must’ve landed quietly in the sand. Everything weighing on Nemona’s mind before was forgotten for the time being as she fully committed to investigating this, feeling renewed by the curiosity. Was whatever this was fate? She dismounted Cyclizar in front of a broken cliffside guardrail fence and they peeked over the edge together to check out the beach below.
A purple metallic... Pokemon? Pokemon, with four large silver paws and a very long silver tail, was indeed lying in the sand, looking like it was hurt or passed out. Nemona thought it looked pretty awesome and powerful, but she knew it wasn't the time to focus on that. A pack of Houndour ran out onto the beach from a nearby cave to surround the mysterious creature.
“OYEEE!! Leave that thing alone!” she shouted down at them, cupping her palms like a megaphone as if a group of wild Pokemon were just going to listen to her that easily. When they predictably did not, she quickly returned Cyclizar to its Ball in exchange for her Kilowattrel, and rode the large, imposing electric seagull down to the beach below. The last time she tried jumping off and relying on her Rotom Phone to slow her momentum like some daredevil trainers did, she couldn’t use her arms for a couple days.
Nemona hopped off her Pokemon’s back onto the sand and backed off, giving it the space it needed to drive the Houndour pack back into the cave by threatening to use Discharge. Meanwhile, she ran over to check out the status of the violet beast from the sky. It seemed like a robot, covered in lights and sparkly bits that were flickering and going out, with what seemed to be... an LCD display for eyes? Yet it also had the presence and fluid motions of a living and breathing creature -- a very weak, barely conscious one. It looked a bit like a bigger Cyclizar, with riding gear as a part of its body (as well as those silly jet engines Team Star punks loved strapping onto them). It was definitely like nothing Nemona had ever seen in real life before, only in sci-fi or those weird conspiracy magazines. What the heck was she looking at? More importantly... was it gonna be okay?
“Hey, buddy... hey... you alright? Need help? Huhhh...?” Nemona asked gently, trying her best to sound like she was soothing a baby and not let her worry for its safety (or her own) seep into her voice. She was pretty sure she shouldn’t try to touch it just yet, given she had no idea what it could do if it felt threatened. Kilowattrell returned to Nemona’s side, ready to intervene if anything happened. Nemona’s composure didn’t last long, as this potentially being a critical situation she was now responsible for began to sink in. “Uh... okay, um, um... Hey, are you hurt anywhere?”
“... Gia...” it muttered.
Okay, that was a response, but it seemed too tired to move. Hopefully that weak cry meant ‘no’. Nemona pulled a Hyper Potion out of her bag and thought for a moment, then shook her head and put it back. Not yet. She rummaged around a bit more before pulling out a baggie of Sitrus Berries instead. It was amazing how much stuff someone could fit into the backpacks and satchel bags Trainers typically wore. “You want some of theeese, bud?” she asked temptingly as she held a couple of the healing fruits out in front of what appeared to be its snout, realizing a bit too late that it might bite her fingers. It sniffed a few times, then slowly scooped the Berries into its mouth with an unsettlingly organic lavender tongue. Gross, but lucky.
After a slow gulp and a few moments of suspense, the semi-robotic creature slowly rose to sit on its haunches. That seemed to have done the trick.
“Agias...”
Kilowattrel spread its wings and squawked in celebration. “SkreEEK!”
“Woorgh.” the violet beast responded, wincing away from Kilowattrel’s volume.
Nemona offered it a third berry. “There ya go, that’s it... feel a little better, amigo?”
The lizard-thing scarfed that one down more eagerly than the others, then stood on all fours and gazed up... longingly? at one of the steep cliffs above them.
“Huh? What’re you lookin’ at?” Nemona asked as she wiped off her slobbery hand on her shorts. She noticed an empty Poke Ball sitting in the sand and picked it up for good luck -- she always had trouble resisting picking up random stuff she saw on the ground -- then craned her neck up to follow the beast’s gaze. “The lighthouse?”
“Agias!” it barked eagerly. ‘Lighthouse’ definitely seemed to be a word it knew.
“You wanna go up there?” She asked, pointing upward. “And... I guess you probably can’t fly anymore. Hmm... I don’t think I have any Pokemon with me that could carry a big fella like you, sooo... uh... Oh, we’ll go through this cave over here, okay?” She continued, pointing to the large opening the Houndour came from, then tracing her finger back up to the lighthouse in case that wasn’t clear enough. “My Pokemon are pretty strong, we’ll protect you, no problem!” she promised with a fist pump.
“Woorgh. Agias.”
The mysterious Pokemon turned toward the cave and seemed to agree to follow Nemona through it. She decided the tunnels might be a little too cramped for Kilowattrel’s huge wingspan, and put her Tauros on guard duty instead. The escort went off without a hitch; most of the Pokemon in there wanted nothing to do with the bull Pokemon, and it easily smashed some of the boulders blocking the path through the winding, mossy cavern. While the Houndour pack’s Houndoom leader did attempt a confrontation, it was knocked aside too easily to even call it a battle. Soon, Nemona and her old and new companion emerged from a tunnel back onto Poco Path, fairly close to where she’d gone down from.
Nemona’s new friend perked up at the lighthouse now being so close and eagerly trotted up toward it. “Agias!”
“Oye, wait up, haha!”
Nemona and her Tauros chased it happily through the grass. She was having a good time for just a bit... until she saw a familiar fluffy-haired classmate in their path and snapped coldly back to reality. Yeah, okay, she kinda thought he lived in that lighthouse but wasn’t totally sure...?
Arven jumped back in surprise. “Why you little... what're you doing out here?!" he shouted incredulously... but after a moment, Nemona realized Arven wasn’t looking at her -- he was addressing the violet beast that ran ahead of her.
“Agi! Agias!”
“Huh? You know each other?” Nemona asked with wide eyes.
“You... I wasn’t talking to you. You can shove off.” Arven sneered.
Nemona’s brow furrowed and jaw clenched in an instant. Some part of her still felt raw from earlier, and facing another hostile attitude so soon felt like ripping the bandage off way too early.
“Hey! I just rescued this fella from passing out on the beach after that crash landing, why don’t YOU can it for once, buster?” She retorted as she marched up to him and crossed her arms. Tauros stepped closer alongside her, but looked a bit surprised by her reaction.
Arven huffed and turned away from her to give the mysterious Pokemon a once-over. “... What’s with this form it’s in? I wouldn’t be surprised that it needed rescuing, it can’t fight anything all powered-down like this.”
“Form? Powered-down?” Nemona asked with an eyebrow raised. She expected Arven to have a retort rather than give her information.
The subject of their conversation started pawing at one of the doors to the lighthouse in the background.
“Ugh. Yeah. Miraidon here is... a real special Pokemon. And a real special thorn in my side! Hey, knock that off, you can't go in the lab. It's locked."
Miraidon cowered a bit.
“What happened, you big brute, did Dad stop feeding YOU, too?”
“Gia...”
“... Too? Wait, is this something Professor Turo found? What do you mean by --”
Arven gritted his teeth. “Didn’t I tell you to shove off?! I’m far too out of sorts to humor more of your prying little questions about my problems right now, student council girl. Don’t you have some trophies to polish? Tie length regulations to enforce? Little kids to beat up for their lunch money?
Nemona scowled more with each passing second as her Tauros side-eyed her nervously. It wasn’t the type to attack Arven like a wild Tauros might, but it did snort loudly. She shut her eyes, attempted to bottle everything up, and took a deep breath, before asking her next question in an unsettlingly calm and even tone, like her best impression of La Primera.
“... Arven. Why are you always like this.”
He just glared back at her and didn’t say a word, despite Miraidon looking at him expectantly too.
“If there’s something I did to deserve this rotten attitude of yours... could you PLEASE just tell me so I can fix it?” Nemona continued with her hands clasped together in front of her chest. Her composure was starting to crack just as quickly as she’d gained it.
Arven looked down at the ground. “... Why’s it so important to you? Couldn’t you go buy some other friends, student council girl?” He muttered.
And then her composure shattered. Her hands tightened into fists and everything she’d bottled up that day began to spill onto the dirt.
“No! No I can’t! And why! Do you keep! Calling me that! Arven?! I have a NAME!! You used to know it! I used to have fr- I-I used to be a PERSON, to people, not... not... ‘Student Council Girl’, or... ‘Princess,’ or ‘Big Shot Champion’, or, or... ‘Annoying Pest’, o-or ‘Other Daughter’... or... g-grah... aagaaAAAH!!!”
Nemona dropped to her knees -- sobbing, raging, overwhelmed -- in front of one of the top three people in the world that least she wanted to break down in front of.
Arven, meanwhile, leapt back a bit and momentarily held his hands up in fear, which would probably be hilarious under different circumstances.
She raised her gloved arm shakily, like she was about to punch the ground, but she thought better of it and let it fall limply. Tauros and Miraidon checked in and sniffed her from each respective side. Man, she was just a total mess right now. There was no coming back from this. She just wanted to cover her ears and shrivel up into a ball and return to the earth--
“... Uh. Um... S-sorry.” Arven said quietly.
Wait, what did he say?
Arven knelt down to her level. “I, uh... I dunno what exactly’s going on with you, but... It sounds like you don’t need to be knocked down a peg today... Nemona.”
Huh?
“I’m...” Arven huffed and scratched his fluffy scalp. “... I’ve really been at the end of my rope lately, let’s say. But I’d never guess you were too. Sorry.”
Nemona looked up at Arven, quite confused. Her glistening eyes darted around his face looking for a sign this was some kind of trick. But no, he mostly just looked guilty and uncomfortable. She’d gotten through to that standoffish brick of a boy somehow. She felt some pretty intense whiplash from being furious, ashamed, and cautiously relieved in such quick succession, but... found a tiny smile in her heart that she could wear.
“Heh... I’m just full of surprises.” she said with a sniffle.
When the moment ended and Arven stood up, offering Nemona a hand, she took it.

Thoughts on a few more films I saw recently...
Anora. Directed by Sean Baker. 2024

In Anora, Sean Baker delivers a unique mix of screwball comedy and emotional drama. Mikey Madison (in a stand-out performance) plays Anora, a young Brooklyn sex worker who impulsively marries the son of a Russian oligarch. What starts out as a transactional arrangement and then a romantic moment of madness made real, soon turns into a tense struggle when his powerful family intervenes, threatening to annul the marriage.
While the first half of the film feels light, sexy and comedic, the tone shifts in the second half, revealing the emotional toll of Anora's situation. This transition could easily feel uneven, but Madison's portrayal keeps the narrative grounded. She’s excellent at balancing Anora’s comedic, carefree moments with the raw vulnerability and strength required in her situation. This approach reminds me a bit of Sixties Italian Comic/dramas like I knew her Well, Il Sorpasso and Mafioso among others, a type of film which appears as a comedy, but has a darker side to reveal.
Madison brings depth, subtlety and complexity to this role, capturing both the humor and heartbreak of her character's life. Almost to the very end there is a level of humor imbued in almost every scene, until reality catches Anora — and us — in the wink of an eye. Madison’s performance is the heart of the film, making Anora’s transformation both believable and moving. This movie is a keeper!
Nosferatu. Directed by Robert Eggers. 2024

We went to see Nosferatu in a packed cinema and it was glorious! It’s been a while since I’ve been to see a mainstream movie where the theater was essentially sold out. So happy to see that can still happen.
So, this version of Nosferatu I must say is a bonafide masterpiece. It’s well executed on every level. The actors all bring their best work, with Lily-Rose Depp giving an amazing performance. Bill Skarsgård is astounding as Count Orlok/Nosferatu, with the sound design/treatment around his voice giving his performance a tangible degree of creepiness and horror. The cinematography alone (by Jarin Blaschke) deserves an academy award for its beauty and unique tone and style.
This Nosferatu is essentially a remake of the original 1922 film by Murnau, and remains true to the original, while at the same time, taking it to another level. It goes beyond the usual expectations by adding some extreme moments that are rarely touched upon in films. For example, when Friedrich Harding’s wife and children are killed (another shocker since children are often spared) by Orlock/Nosferatu, he does something that is beyond the usual mourning husband you might see in a typical film. It’s not pretty and it’s shocking, but it takes you to a different place within the horror genre where you might not normally go — and this ratchets up the creepiness and discomfort way more than you’d typically have in a movie like this.
See this movie in a theater if you can, because if you wait to watch it on a TV, no matter how big your LCD screen is, it won’t be able to deliver the nuances of the images you will see on a large cinema screen. This is an excellent movie.
Manchester by the Sea. Directed by Kenneth Lonergan. 2016

I missed this film when it was released 9 years ago, but was reminded of it through a film podcast I was recently listening to. As I watched the film I realized that I had initially missed out on a very well made and written film. Casey Affleck deservedly won an academy award for his role in this movie about a man who is mourning a death in his family, but is emotionally distant. Michelle Williams as Lee’s (Affleck) estranged ex-wife also gives an emotionally powerful performance.
As the film unfolds, we slowly discover the reasons for his difficult connections to those around him — which are profoundly painful and disturbing. To complicate his life, he is tasked with being the guardian of his recently deceased brother’s son. The writing, acting, cinematography and editing of this film are executed with incredible restraint and nuance. The editing lends a somewhat disorienting flow to the course of events, mirroring the chaos and flashes of memory that can upturn ones life during a major life crisis. It’s sometimes slow, but methodical in its delivery of events, and worth the effort. This is an excellent, slice-of-life type of film that you don’t see often done this well. Definitely worth repeated viewing and excellent.

DIY: Marauder with Screen and GPS For Flipper Zero
Many of you would have seen the humongous ESP32 add-on module with touch screen and GPS for Flipper Zero shared in discussion groups, forums, etc. Well, this tutorial will provide you with all the information you need to build one yourself.

This build consists of mainly 4 parts. The TFT LCD 2.8" 240x320 SPI ILI9341 Touch Display cost me around US$5.50, the ESP32-WROOM-32U module cost around US$3, the NEO-6M GPS module cost around US$2.20 and an 8dbi 2.4GHz Wifi Antenna which cost around US$2. All of these parts can be easily found in online marketplaces like Aliexpress, Amazon, etc. Here is how you need to wire them up together. How you wish to lay this out or mount on a prototyping board is entirely up to you. As long as the connections are correct, you are good to go. The GPS module is optional, and mainly, it's used for the war driving functionality.
Next, you need to download all the firmware needed from here. Please download the Bootloader, Partitions, Boot App and Firmware files for v4 (Yes, v4 files, not any others) and save it on your computer.
Now, press and hold the BOOT button on your ESP32-WROOM-32U module and connect it to your computer using a data-capable USB cable (some USB cables can only charge), then let go the BOOT button. Open Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser and go to ESPWebTool. Click the CONNECT button, then select the ESP32 usb serial connection. It should look something like below but can vary a little between different computers and operating systems.
Select the firmware files for each slot exactly like below (take note of the 0x1000, 0x8000, etc. and their corresponding .bin files), then hit the PROGRAM button.
When completed successfully, you can unplug the USB cable from the ESP32 module and now you can connect your Marauder module to your Flipper Zero. Please ensure that your Flipper Zero is turned off before you connect it, and also turn off your Flipper Zero before disconnecting it. The 3.3V pin is also used by your Flipper Zero's SD card reader and connecting/disconnecting external modules that use this pin while the Flipper Zero is on can potentially corrupt the SD card. So, if everything went according to plan, your Marauder module should boot up and everything should look like below.

NOTE: If your Marauder boots up, but when you try to touch the screen and get no response, try tapping around the bottom part of your screen and see if the touch panel seems to be in inverted position from the actual display. Should this happen to you, just flash your ESP32 module again following the steps above, but use the v6 firmware. This should resolve the issue.
In this build, I just prototyped this on breadboard, but you can of course make it permanent by soldering it on to a prototype board and 3D print a case for it. This setup is essentially just using the Flipper Zero as a battery pack, instead of using the Flipper Zero to control Marauder. The large screen does make some things easier to do, compared to the small screen of the Flipper Zero, and there may be some functionality (not much) that is not currently in the Flipper Zero Marauder companion app. Here is a video showing the different menus in Marauder.
Personally, I don't think I will actually want to bring something so big around with me, along with my Flipper Zero. I think what makes Flipper Zero special is just how compact it is and all the different functionality cramped into it. This would probably be better off as a standalone unit by just hooking up a battery, but that's just me. Well, that's it for this tutorial. I hope you found this helpful.
Here's a good intro to Marauder if you are unfamiliar.
