Semangat!

A New Generation of Love
I have this thought of disappointment towards the young people but I'm not saying I'm old. I've known different people in my 25 years in this world, I've met one who was trying to figure out what he really wants from life , I've met one who wasn't sure which path he will take since life gave him choices that needed bigger decisions and I've met someone who was so sure what he wants to be 5 years from now and that amazes me because I've been into those stages where I thought I'm being left behind and I suddenly realized it wasn't just my time yet to know everthing about life, especially about love. I have friends who got married at the age of 25, who built a success business at 30 while me, I had a baby when I was 20 but my life didn't stop there. I got my degree, I'm a work in progress and I believe we all are.
But today's generation believes rushing is what they need, they hold onto people whom they thought could help them grow just because he/she gave expensive gifts, most young people now thinks that virginity is shameful, that when you don't have experience in love and in bed you are not winning the race and that's so disappointing.. don't you think? We're not in a race to fall in love to everything around us, whether it's people or career it's not too late. Learning and knowing is what it takes and you've got to believe that something and someone out there is actually meant for you, they're just finding their way to you, you're just finding the way to what you really want and that is not wrong.
Do not be part of this new generation of love, the one that makes you feel worthless because you're not. You do have all the years of your life to get and meet what is and who is destined for you. Life is a process of knowing the people around you, the process of trying something new everyday and in that way I am 99.99% sure you will know who you really are deeply and accurately.
Explore your life, love freely but never forget to take it slow to examine what's right and wrong. Take your time, enjoy every second of your life achieving and making mistakes, it's okay to make mistakes by the way.. it will teach you a lot more than you think. Don't forget to be happy.
You'll thank me later.

At this point in my life, I have experienced enough variety in and out of the Social Work field to know my strengths, recognize areas that are challenging, and know what I simply do not like. In addition to that, I’ve also gained confidence in saying “no” and walking away from a position if it’s not the right fit for me. Social work has allowed me the opportunity to explore and it turns out that I’m good at more than one thing! But the common denominator is that I enjoy working with people who are going through a difficult time in their life and helping them grow.
When I started out in the field, I had no clue where and what I wanted my “forever job” to look like. Even that notion scared me: doing the same thing forever. I remember when I was young, I had different ideas about what I wanted to be when “I grew up” and our parents were so encouraging that I really did believe that I could be and do anything. I have so much gratitude for my parents on this because even though mom did mention a few times that she wished one of us would pursue being a doctor, I felt I had the freedom to choose what made me happy. So when it comes to moving onto a new job, I’ve never had much fear about it, mostly excitement. What is at the forefront of my mind is how a new position will challenge me, help me expand my skills, and fit my lifestyle. I would be lying if I said that the income didn’t play a role, as well.
I feel as though I have a different view of a career path because I don’t think about moving up any sort of career ladder. I believe we are constantly changing and therefore have the ability to move in and out of different positions that fit our current interests and/or needs. I would much rather try my hand at a new and challenging job than climb some imaginary ladder.
Growing up, we watched our parents tire themselves out at a factory job for decades and in his forties, our dad left that factory to pursue an entirely new field. Watching him do this with a language barrier and a middle school education sent a clear message about persistence, passion, and true grit. How could I possibly create any excuse about my capabilities of achieving personal career goals with the advantages I have compared to my dad? I’ve talked with my dad about his career move and he speaks about it as a natural part of his trajectory. If it doesn’t work out, then at least he knows he gave it his best effort to make it work and he still has something to fall back on. My dad is a very skilled person and I’ve adopted his motto of “it’ll work out one way or another.”
As I’m writing this, I’m on day three of a new job. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for about two and a half years and now that I’m here, I’m not so sure. My conflict lies in programming used with the population being served. I’ve worked in the behavioral and mental health arena for about 10 years and have developed an understanding of how people respond to triggers and what is helpful. That’s not to say that I’m not open to learning new theories and strategies, but yesterday definitely challenged my core values and beliefs. So the verdict is still out on whether or not I have a future with this new agency, but right now I see myself in a learning role. Either way, I’m putting my faith in the universe and know that it will work out the way it’s suppose to work for me.
