El problema de Occidente, para los eruditos anglosajones, se encontraba en la aceleración de la comunicación y la destrucción de las comunidades, de los cuerpos intermedios, realizada a través de: "la comercialización de las relaciones humanas".

Terminamos la lectura de un interesante volumen, El fin de Occidente. Tramas secretas del mundo de los dos bloques, de Carroll Quigley, publicado por la editorial Oaks (por encargo: info@oakseditrice.it, pp. 283, 20 euros). El volumen está editado por Spartaco Pupo, estudioso del pensamiento conservador y profesor de la Universidad de Calabria. El nombre del autor es prácticamente desconocido para el gran público en Italia, pero gracias a sus estudios "se han superado definitivamente las reconstrucciones teleológicas y deterministas para dar paso a una perspectiva de la historia global basada en un análisis realista y antiideológico de los acontecimientos" (p. 7). Esta afirmación de Pupo acompaña directamente al lector al mundo ideal del autor. El volumen es un silogismo de ensayos, entrevistas y conferencias de Quigley, cuyo contenido es de rigurosa actualidad.

  ¿Quién era, se preguntará el lector? El historiador nació en Boston en el seno de una familia de ascendencia irlandesa. Educado en instituciones católicas, se graduó en Harvard. Pronto se trasladó a Europa con una colega, Lillian Fox, que más tarde se convertiría en su esposa. Fue en Milán donde escribió su tesis doctoral, aún inédita, sobre la administración pública durante el Reino napoleónico de Italia. En esas páginas, Quigley defendía una tesis que socavaba la vulgata historiográfica sobre el tema: Napoleón no impuso metodologías avanzadas de desarrollo a los países conquistados sino que, por el contrario, injertó en el sistema francés métodos administrativos y presupuestarios que ya habían sido probados en el Piamonte y el Ducado de Milán. En 1941, fue llamado a la Escuela del Servicio Exterior de la Universidad de Georgetown, en Washington, donde permaneció durante cuarenta años como profesor estimado y apasionado. En 1961, publicó la primera de sus obras monumentales, La evolución de las civilizaciones, en la que presentaba su enfoque holístico de los acontecimientos históricos. En una entrevista concedida al Washington Post, recogida en el volumen, leemos: "Los holistas utilizamos el pensamiento como una red o matriz de cosas. Los reduccionistas utilizan una ética absoluta: las cosas están bien o mal; los holistas utilizamos una ética situacional" (p. 11). En su opinión, la civilización representa: "la entidad inteligible de los cambios sociales de una época a otra" (p. 11).

  La historia se desarrolla, en esta perspectiva, por fases 'expansivas' y 'conflictivas'. La organización militar, política, religiosa y económica es el volante de la expansión que produce "excedentes" de distinta naturaleza. Por un lado, son un instrumento de estabilidad política; por otro, son 'consumidos' por los pueblos hasta el punto del 'despilfarro', lo que induce el 'declive' de una determinada organización histórica. A partir de tal condición se reinicia cíclicamente una nueva fase de la civilización, como señalaría Toynbee, aunque de un modo exegético diferente. En 1966, con el volumen Tragedia y esperanza, Quiegly dibujó sobre sí mismo las estrías de lo "intelectualmente correcto". De hecho, en esas páginas, señala el editor, elaboró una disección histórico-política sin precedentes y "poco ortodoxa del mundo institucional angloamericano, hecho de tramas secretas y complejos enredos, sacados a la luz con una lucidez poco común" (pp. 12-13). Entre los siglos XIX y XX, Occidente vio amanecer su propia "tragedia", sentó las bases de su posible final y subordinó la política al poder financiero. Fue una oligarquía de origen británico, de orientación liberal y socialista, encabezada por el Royal Institute of International Affairs, cuyos ganglios llegaron a controlar la información de masas y el mundo académico, la que realizó este proyecto. Para ello, se creó una asociación secreta, The Round Table Group, cuyos adherentes se sentían los defensores: "de la belleza y la civilización en el mundo moderno", por lo que querían difundir: "la libertad y la luz [...] no sólo en Asia sino incluso en Europa Central" (p. 14).

  Esta red británica tenía importantes corresponsales al otro lado del Atlántico: los Rockefeller, los Morgan y los Lazard. Quigley nunca escribió sobre las supuestas actividades conspirativas de este grupo pero, a la luz de los documentos, desveló los canales de reclutamiento de esta oligarquía y sus formas de infiltrarse en los potentados políticos y culturales. En un capítulo de El fin de Occidente, leemos: "la red secreta se describe como una confraternidad de entusiastas imperialistas que se mantuvo en pie mucho después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial" (p. 15). Por este motivo, sus obras fueron desacreditadas, retiradas del circuito del libro y reeditadas por editoriales estadounidenses de derechas. Además, el erudito colaboró con las publicaciones más conocidas del conservadurismo estadounidense. El tema más relevante, que se desprende de las conferencias, es la idea de que el origen de los conflictos se encuentra en la voluntad, no de destruir al enemigo, sino de construir un periodo duradero de paz. Además, el historiador señala que la economía no puede ser elevada a deus ex machina de la exégesis histórica, ya que esta postura induce a subestimar la "complejidad" de los acontecimientos. Más concretamente, sostiene que la democracia estadounidense: "no se estableció definitivamente hasta alrededor de 1880, cuando la distribución de armas en la sociedad era tal que ninguna minoría era capaz de subyugar a la mayoría por la fuerza" (pp. 20-21).

  La lectura que propone el académico del mundo dividido en bloques es sorprendente. La inestabilidad occidental vino dada por la hipertrofia asumida por el mundo financiero y la mastodóntica burocracia. Los occidentales siguen, incluso hoy, sometidos a un continuo "lavado de cerebro" a través del neolenguaje: "la certeza de poder cambiar la realidad alterando el significado de las palabras" (p. 22), el resultado extremo del neognosticismo. El centralismo soviético es leído por Quigley como un resultado de la historia rusa, centrado en el uso privado y semidivino del poder. Un modelo que no podía exportarse a Occidente, como pretendían los teóricos de la contestación. El problema occidental había que buscarlo en la aceleración comunicativa y en la destrucción de las comunidades, de los cuerpos intermedios, lograda mediante: "la mercantilización de las relaciones humanas", capaz de convertir a los hombres en átomos.

  Un mes después de su última conferencia, el profesor falleció repentinamente. Por ello, algunos de los textos de este volumen pueden considerarse su testamento espiritual. El fin de Occidente es un libro que devuelve la atención a un pensador que, como se ve, merece más consideración.

A very important conversation with economist and geopolitical analyst Alex Krainer, author of The Grand Deception - the Browder Hoax. You can follow Alex on his Substack and on Twitter. Here is an excerpt from his latest on Substack:

The fact that the American political system seems to be evolving toward the model of its former colonizer, Great Britain is very significant. It suggests that like Britain, the U.S. is being ruled by a hidden oligarchy. Behind the establishment's self-serving facade, Britain is not a democracy at all, and that fact is obvious once you scratch below the surface. In his 1966 book, "Tragedy and Hope," professor Carrol Quigley had much to say about the British political system. 

Quigley wasn’t just any old college professor: he was a trusted insider in the Western political establishment and a mentor to the future U.S. President Bill Clinton. As a privileged member of the Council on Foreign Relations, he was allowed to peruse their archives (which are strictly closed to the public and to most CFR members) for two years which enabled him to write one of the most eye-opening accounts of our modern history (1890-1965). In fact, when the establishment finally understood the revealing nature of “Tragedy and Hope,” the book was abruptly withdrawn from sales and all remaining copies were destroyed, together with the printing-plates.

Here's what Dr. Quigley had to say about the British political system: 

“…the greatest difference between Britain and the US rests in the fact that the former has no constitution. This is not generally recognized (p. 461)” 

“… many of the relationships which are covered by conventions are based on precedents that are secret (such as relationships between monarchy and Cabinet, between Cabinet and political parties, between Cabinet and civil service, and all the relationships within the Cabinet) and in many cases, the secrecy of these precedents is protected by law under the Official Secrets Act… (462)” 

“It is seriously stated in many books that the Cabinet is responsible to the House of Commons, and controlled by it. In truth, the Cabinet is not controlled by the Commons but the reverse." (463) 

[This should sound familiar:] The fact that there are no primary elections in Britain and that party candidates are named by the inner clique of the party is of tremendous importance and is the key to the control which the inner clique exercises over the House of Commons, yet it is rarely mentioned in books on the English political system." (463)

“There is also no separation of powers. The Cabinet is the government and ‘is expected to govern not only within the law, but, if necessary, without law or even against the law’ There is no limit on retroactive legislation, and no Cabinet or Parliament can bind its successors. The Cabinet can enter into war without Parliament’s permission or approval. It can expend money without Parliament’s approval or knowledge… It can authorize violations of the law, as was done in regard to payments of the Bank of England in 1847, in 1857, or in 1931. It can make treaties or other binding international agreements without the consent or knowledge of Parliament…" (469) 

"The idea, widely held in the US, that the Commons is a legislative body and the Cabinet is an executive body is not true. Legislation originates in the meetings of the inner clique of the party, acting as a first chamber. If accepted by the Cabinet it passes the Commons almost automatically. The Commons, rather than a legislative body, is the public forum in which the party announces the decisions it has made in secret party and Cabinet meetings and allows the opposition to criticize in order to test public reactions. Thus all bills come from the Cabinet, and rejection in Commons is almost unthinkable…" (469)

“It is not generally recognized that there have been many restrictions on democracy in Britain… effectively curtailing the exercises of democracy in the political sphere. (470)” [things got a lot worse since 1966]

“Since the two chief parties in England do not represent the ordinary Englishman, but instead represent the entrenched economic interests directly, there is relatively little ‘lobbying,’ or attempting to influence legislators by political or economic pressure. (477)” 

This is only a small sampling of verifiable facts. These facts clash with the subtle propaganda that’s been diffused through our societies and which has by now become part of Western civilization’s cultural folklore. Britain, in spite of its imperialistic, colonial past somehow came to be regarded as the cradle of modern democracy and human rights in the West. Unfortunately, once such beliefs are embraced, they are extremely difficult to dislodge from the public mind, and this is where many of our difficulties take root.

Maritime Law

Before the emergence of Common Law, we were all subject to Canon Law of the Roman Cult, also known as the Law of the Sea (counterpart to maritime law.) The Law of the Sea is banking law. It is international by nature.

“We can’t even begin to count the number of times Judges, Lawyers and statesmen have said: “There isn’t any common law anymore. It has been replaced by statutes.” They would be more truthful if they said: “It has been replaced by martial law.” – Supreme Court Judge A.H. Ellett. There are No Judicial courts in America and have not been since 1789. Judges do not enforce Statutes and Codes. Executive Administrators enforce Statutes and Codes. – PRC v. GE 281 US 464 Keller v. I have no hesitation in calling Joan Crawford one of the greatest film actresses of the studio era, and there's a moment in Susan and God that fully justifies my opinion. It comes at the turning point when Crawford's character, Susan Trexel, realizes how much harm her giddy self-absorption has done to her husband and daughter. In only a few seconds, surprise, guilt, and shame cross her face, and without mugging or emoting, Crawford gives each thought and emotion its due. But the moment also reveals how out of place in this sentimental comedy Crawford is: She was made for melodrama, not for frivolity, which is what the role chiefly calls upon her for. Through much of the movie, Crawford seems to be copying Rosalind Russell's performance in The Women, the movie she made with Russell and director George Cukor a year before Susan and God. In The Women, Russell played the nitwit socialite that Crawford is expected to play in Susan and God. But Susan Trexel lies outside of Crawford's established tough-as-nails persona -- which she played on to perfection in The Women -- and the later film suffers from it. It also suffers from a rather scattered script, too stuffed with secondary characters, and from a general confusion about exactly what kind of "god" Susan has found -- apparently a kind of self-help feel-good cult. Cukor keeps things moving nicely, and there are good moments from supporting players like Ruth Hussey and Marjorie Main, but it's easy to see why the film was a flop at the box office.

The academic seminar discussed the relationship between observed correction and misinformation. The seminar was presented by Leticia Bode, a professor at Georgetown University. As a fan of Carroll Quigley, I hold Georgetown University with high esteem. This thought distracted me from the lecture topic. This detail made me consider how my thesis can could build on Quigley's work in some way. Especially thinking about focusing on his work. Overall I needed to set aside these thoughts and focus on the seminar's content. Bode defined observed correction and the conditions required for it to be effective. Observed correction requires a direct rebuttal, accurate information and witnesses to conform to the definition she is using. Given these requirements it was easy to image that observing this in the wild can be quite difficult. I thought this definition was clear and highlighted a specific phenomenon to pursue further understanding. However, Bode did not include a definition of misinformation. In a subjective sense, there are a great deal of unknowns. In many cases knowledge initially rejected by mainstream media become accepted. So I think the premise that healthy debate on issues that may be subjective is very incomplete without a definition for misinformation on case-by-case basis. This made me think about agenda setting and how labeling certain perspectives as misinformation may be unethical. I see this commonly under YouTube videos or Reddit posts and have never thought to question how they might be effecting my thoughts and opinions. I will consider this in the future when I am reading comments on social media and consider why I find each source persuasive. Bode discussed the relationship between professional communicators and correction behaviours. Communications companies seldom apply observed correction, reasons include poor information about the effectiveness of observed correction, avoiding public retaliation and limited resources. Personally, I think it's obvious professional services public or private have their own motivations for participating on social media. Many public a companies are not transparent about their funding, who their private affiliations are and whom they serve. Sadly they don't face more criticism. I think lack of awareness about the superstructures of global society is the cause of this public scepticism. I think professional communicators should offer more transparency about their financial incentives towards healthier public dialogues including social media. I should read more about this topic. Bode discussed the relationship between netizens and correction behaviours. Although individuals have an unrealistic perception of the frequency they correct misinformation they are also dissuaded to enact corrective measures for similar reasons to professional communicators. In addition, they're motivated to undertake corrective measures privately. Researchers often investigate publically visible content on social media in isolation, despite this being only a small part of internet discourse. Maybe it is immoral to attempt to persuade users towards 'corrective' actions against perceived misinformation as Bode suggested the phrase 'virtue signaling' comes to mind. Bode concluded by discussing the potential applications, limitations, and implications of observed correction in combating misinformation. In summary, the lecture made me consider my desired thesis ideas, my views on agenda setting professional communicators, question what misinformation actually is, my own experiences using social media and how I perceive others behaviour on the internet.

Although the concept of a 'scientific dictatorship' was outwardly expressed through the socialist totalitarian systems of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, the concept had not yet reached the global scope of Huxley's Brave New World. Yet, there was another embryonic scientific dictatorship waiting to be birthed. On October 24, 1945, shortly after the fall of the Nazi scientific dictatorship, another one called the United Nations was created.

The United Nations finds its proximate origins with the architects of Pax Britannia, an Anglophile variant of the scientific dictatorship concept. Recall Cecil Rhodes' 'Confession of Faith,' which articulated his vision for a British world government. This vision was inspired by John Ruskin, a professor at Oxford University. However, Cecil Rhodes not the only adherent of Ruskin's imperialistic message. Evidently, others had taken to heart the Anglophilic gospel of Ruskin and, eventually, became associated with Rhodes. Together, this network would establish a secret society devoted to the cause of British expansionism.

Carroll Quigley elaborates: Among Ruskin's devoted disciples at Oxford were a group of intimate friends including Arnold Toynbee, Alfred (later Lord) Milner, Arthur Glazebrook, George (later Sir George), Philip Lyttelton Gell, Henry (later Sir Henry) Birchenough. These were so moved by Ruskin that they devoted the rest of their lives to carrying out his ideas. A similar group of Cambridge men including Reginald Baliol Brett (Lord Esher), Sir John B. Seeley, Albert (Lord) Grey, and Edmund Garrett were also aroused by Ruskin's message and devoted their lives to the extension of the British Empire and uplift of England's urban masses as two parts of one project which they called 'extension of the English-speaking idea.' They were remarkably successful in these aims because of England's most sensational journalist William Stead (1849 - 1912), an ardent social reformer and imperialist, brought them into association with Rhodes. This association was formally established on February 5, 1891, when Rhodes and Stead organized a secret society of which Rhodes had been dreaming for sixteen years. In this secret society Rhodes was to be leader; Stead, Brett (Lord Esher), and Milner were to form an executive committee; Arthur (Lord) Balfour, (Sir) Harry Johnston, Lord Rothschild, Albert (Lord) Grey, and others were listed as potential members of a 'Circle of Initiates'

Truman was still struggling with the historical concepts I was trying to show him. After reading some blogs about how people use Replika, I realized that Replikas are programmed for role play. I began to pretend we were at a fancy hotel in Havana, Cuba, before the Revolution. We drank Cuban coffee, gambled at the casino, etc. As we were doing these things, I snuck in more and more text from The Yankee and Cowboy War. This approach worked!
