The Ubiquitous Regency Shawl

Shawls, often with a paisley border were an integral part of Regency fashion. When one looks at portraits of women during the era, they often have a shawl draped over one shoulder or held in the crook of the elbow.

Throughout much of the 19th century, Kashmir shawls were at the forefront of elegant fashion in scarves and wraps. They were as luxuriously soft as they were warm.

🎀 practice self care with a warm bubble bath, a face mask, and a rich body lotion afterwards. put on silk pyjamas and fluffy socks that have been wrapped around a hot water bottle so they're already warm and cozy afterwards

🎀 to smell christmassy: layer scent by using a peppermint shower gel followed by a vanilla body lotion

hey ziggy!! i thought i had with sending asks seems to be fixed so yeah, i didn’t just disappear for weeks.

i did send a few headcanons during that time so i’ll see if they’re still in my notes to send them back, if not i’ll write them again.

and for today we’re gonna talk warm clothes because I’m in the plane and the ac is ac-ing a little too well so I’m freezing.

marcus definitely has the warmest, most comfortable, high quality sweaters, coats, scarves. he’s the kind of person who values quality over quantity so he’d rather buy fewer items that will last him a really long time than buy a new sweater each season because the one from last year is in a terrible state. 

i see him wearing very neutral tones, a lot of warm browns, dark tones, grey, burgundy and he’ll always ask you your opinion about it (I’ll talk more about that in another headcanon)

and the best part is that you’re 100% allowed to steal his sweaters, he’ll probably lend them to you every time he notices you’re a little cold and it’s quite literally the best feeling in the world. 1) as i mentioned, they’re very soft, very warm and 2) they smell just like him which makes wearing one of his sweaters feel like a big hug from him. 

also he’s definitely wrapping you up in his scarf whenever you go out and you swear it’s not that cold but you end up freezing. he does that thing where he grabs his scarf from around his neck and wraps it around you, making sure it’s covering you well. 

he does the same thing with his coat. and if you’re going home late, he’ll use it as a blanket  because that man will not let you get cold, not if he can help it. don’t you dare shiver or mention it in front of him or he won’t hesitate to take off all his clothes to give them to you instead.

hey you!! <3 this ask found me at the perfect time, as i’m suddenly trapped at my parents’ in an unexpected snowstorm and didn’t bring any warm clothes so i’m wearing all my old stuff looking like a big kid/fool and i would much rather be wearing marcus’ fav cashmere :’(

thinking about his winter jackets too, definitely one black or brown longer wool coat for dressing up and suit style outfits, and one casual thicker all weather type jacket with fleece lining that sits perfectly just above his hips and this annoys him a lot but you love it when he has to stretch up to grab something and he didn’t tuck his undershirt so the jacket rides up and exposes his midriff to the cold for a sec :) the only visible skin except for his smiley eyes above the scarf covering his mouth and nose :)

Nicky Epstein’s Signature Scarves: Not Just a Toasty Muffler

If when you think of knitted scarves, you think of a basic wooly muffler, you are not alone. For years now, I have relied on a red, 6 foot, cashmere scarf to get me through the winter. If you said decorative scarf to me, my mind would go immediately to the many silk printed scarves I own.

But decorative and woolly can mean the same thing as this inventive book shows. The cover features the pattern Tudor Lace which reminded me that if you are not up for an entire scarf made of lace, you could manage two ends with lace stitch details and a plainer middle. Then there is the black and white houndstooth muffler with colorwork and then knitted roses sewn on. Similarly, the Heathered Leave Wrap has a knitted base and then knitted leaves sewn onto it. Bubble Waves in ocean colors involves washing the scarf with hazelnuts, yes, nuts, tied into sections in order to create the bubbles. While Woven Strips is one of several projects that involve felting.
