Xemnas

Internet cryptid. Rarely shows his face. Uploading schedule is random and everyone is always surprised and excited when he decides to post a new video.

Everyone flocks to his channel for his voice. Most of his videos are of him reciting poetry or short stories. Has the perfect voice that makes you feel as though you’re listening to an audiobook. That being said, he goes pretty far into the ASMR thing, usually with his low voice reading to you, but everyone loves it so he doesn’t really want to change.

Doesn’t go to conventions or events, partly because he wants to keep the mystery of his appearance alive and partly because he doesn’t like meeting people.

Xigbar

Literally posts whatever the hell he wants, maybe once or twice a week depending on how busy he is. His channel is very Jenna Marbles-esque in the sense that he goes off the rails all the time. He’ll video himself trying a new workout routine, attempting and failing to cook a meal, going to a gun range another day, getting Xion to paint his nails in another video, telling stories about why he wears an eye patch that get more and more ridiculous as he goes on, etc.

Chill with fans. He’s super casual and actually likes meeting fans. Will be cool with you if you’re cool with him and don’t treat him as some big celebrity. He’s just a random guy who makes a few videos on the internet and that’s how he wants everyone to see him.

Xaldin

A workout channel, of course! Does a series of different types of workout routines that are good for different people with different body types and different levels of energy. A very body positive channel! Also has a series on different types of diets and the positives and negatives of each - more in regards to living healthier lifestyles than losing weight.

Went viral during a collab with Lexaeus about healthy food and organic versus non-organic fruits and veggies.

Will definitely talk to fans if they meet on the street or by chance, but doesn’t really go to conventions. He does videos because he finds it fun, not because he wants to be famous.

Vexen

Has a Bill Nye the Science Guy type of channel where he teaches people about the wonders of science and how science can answer nearly every question you might have about the universe. Did a whole, scathing series about climate change that went completely viral and caused quite a few stubborn conservatives to condemn his channel, but he’s fairly well-liked throughout the entirety of the scientific community.

One of those rare Youtubers that actually has a day job as a scientist for some fancy laboratory or university.

Doesn’t really like meeting fans because he doesn’t know how to talk to people, but will happily talk if someone strikes up a conversation that happens to be particularly intriguing.

Lexaeus

Honestly, this man has a cooking channel, but the actual cooking content varies. He has a whole series about cooking tips and hacks, as well as good tools to have in your kitchen. Videos concerning food range from beautiful aesthetic baking recipes for cookies and cupcakes to an Epic Meal Time level of food insanity.

His fans are intimidated when approaching him because he’s so large and intimidating, but they soon realize that he’s actually a sweetheart and is happy to answer questions and give tips to his viewers when he meets them.

Zexion

Mostly does reviews about things. The majority of them are about books, but he’ll sometimes do movies if they were book-to-movie adaptations. His reviews are fair, brilliant, and well-thought out, so he’s actually been approached by several movie studios that wanted him to review scripts before they start production.

Feels like he’s awkward around fans but they don’t think so. Gets exhausted by social interaction so he’ll talk to people, but he has to take some time alone afterward to re-charge.

Saix

Makes How To videos and educational videos. Saix’s channel is something you stumbled across when looking for tips for writing a resumé or for tips when going into a job interview.

Fairly informative in his videos, if a bit long-winded. The videos are worth the full watch, though, because he has some scathing, dry humor that you enjoy.

Did a whole series on his channel about politics - the important of voting, explaining governmental processes, explaining impeachment, giving information about various candidates, etc. This is the series that really made his channel fly up in subscribers.

Awkward with fans and doesn’t know how to interact with people fawning over him. Stopped going to events after some girl groped his ass because he felt too uncomfortable.

Axel

A travel blog! He goes all over the world - worlds - exploring the sights and local favorite spots. He gets a little extreme sometimes because he likes to try everything, whether that’s scuba diving with sharks, sky diving, riding camels through a desert, rock and mountain climbing, etc., but he likes to have the full experience.

He also does gaming, mostly group games like PUBG or Overwatch or Gary’s Mod games that he can co-op with Roxas.

Absolutely loves meeting fans. He really cares about his fans and loves making conversations with them - everyone finds him really easy to talk to, so they flock to conventions when they hear he’s going to be in attendance.

Demyx

A music channel! He writes his own music, does covers of popular songs, experiments with different instruments, does online lessons and teaches how to tune certain instruments.

He also does some travel stuff with Axel, depending on where Axel happens to go. They always have a lot of fun together so they like to collab whenever they have the chance.

Adores meeting fans and gives some really awesome hugs!  Gets super excited and flattered whenever anyone recognizes him in public.

Luxord

Does a little bit of everything. Got popular with doing unboxing videos for different types of subscription boxes. Also does a follow-me around where he goes to different sights around his hometown and explores things. Has a series of videos about classic foods and snacks from England.

Surprisingly, he first went viral for a video explaining what Brexit was and why it was important to vote.. Everyone was super impressed with the resources and information that he gave in the video.

Doesn’t mind meeting fans but doesn’t go to conventions or events. He’s usually pretty busy, so he’ll probably stop for a picture and a handshake and be on his way.

Marluxia

Marluxia’s channel is a mash of makeup tutorials and gardening tips. He has the most phenomenal garden that people love to look at and makes videos about soil pH, fertilizer and composting, and which plants go well with different types of environments and weather.

But then he also has his beauty guru side where he makes these incredible makeup tutorials that people can’t understand how he can possibly have such a steady hand when doing his contour and eyeshadow.

Viewers are a combination of 60 year old men and women looking for gardening tips and teenagers looking for makeup tips. Is fine with talking with the teenagers but will absolutely have hour-long conversations with anyone who starts talking to him about his plants.

Larxene

Self-defense, particularly for women who need to protect themselves but they could be applied to men, too. Good friends with Xaldin and has him on her channel a lot, usually when she needs a test dummy to try out new moves on. It helps her viewers to know that even though she’s small, she can still take out guys twice her size - and that her viewers can, too!

Sometimes does makeup tests with Marluxia because she can make some wicked sharp eyeliner wings.

She’s pretty cool with meeting fans as long as you’re cool with her. Do not hit on her or think you have a right to monopolize her time just because you’re a fan. You will regret it.

Roxas

Roxas is first and foremost a gaming youtuber. He loves video games and would play them all day every day if he could. Sometimes does charity livestreams on Twitch and he’s raised a lot of money for good causes!

Doesn’t really have a particular kind of game he plays - has a fondness for Nintendo, but he’ll play a little of everything. it really depends on what kind of mood he’s in at the time.

Gets really shy around meeting fans but he loves his fans to pieces! He thinks that they’re all super awesome and give great recommendations for new games he should try.

Xion

Craft videos! Xion loves arts and crafts so you can bet that she’s going to be showing you how to make different projects in an easy and fun way that doesn’t cause too much stress. She also dabbles in trying different types of painting, sculpting, sketching, nail art, etc., and makes awesome tutorials that are easy to follow.

Gets embarrassed around fans because she’s super flattered that anyone would love her videos enough to watch them consistently.

Xion gets the occasional fan that’s a little… too familiar with her, but she usually has someone with her when she goes to cons and events, so they happily act as her bodyguard.

Collabs with other Youtubers a lot, particularly Lexaeus, to everyone’s surprise. They usually do videos together when Lexaeus makes some kind of sweet dessert.

It’s been a while since I’ve had to take inventory of, like, WHO I am, and introduce myself. Feels weird AF.

But the best way to give folks who don’t know me a clue about what the flavor of this tumblr experience will be is to list out some of my hobby-related fav’s, yeah? I mean, if this space is gonna be for my hobbies, then that seems like a reasonable starting point.

Now, I don’t give a fuck. I read crime novels. When I want to mix it up, I read novels about time travel and lasers and shit. Who cares. Read what you love.

Films:

RoboCop, Repo Man, Tokyo Drifter, Frankenweenie, The Life Aquatic, The Seventh Seal. Enthusiast of the Zatoichi and Bond film franchises, warts and all. 

I dig anything from Seijun Suzuki, Paul Verhoeven, Wes Anderson, Tim Burton, Ingmar Bergman.

Again, fancy-ass Art Guy would have stretched the truth to namedrop a bunch of SERIOUS CINEMA up here. But now I watch like, one new movie a month (on a good month). I like what I like. Which is apparently campy sci-fi, indie movies I saw in college, and foreign arthouse shit from the 60s.

Television:

I don’t track with current film or television trends, so it’s pretty rare for me to catch any New Media. If I’m watching non-anime tv, it’s almost always The Simpsons or Star Trek, or watching a ballgame. Don’t even try to talk to me about New Media, it’s a lost cause. Even before the pandemic hit, it had been possibly years since I’d been to a theater or started a premier television show.

Now’s as good a time as any to say-

IDGAF about Star Wars, Marvel, DC, etc. 

Which is wild, ‘cuz I know A LOT about them- I grew up reading golden/silver age Marvel religiously and kept up with current arcs while in college, and I’ve seen the first six Star Wars films like, a billion times, and know the EU in and out. I own so many Batman legos (for some reason Batman has some of the best intermediate level sets).

The fandoms just moved on without me, and that’s totally fine. No judgement if you’re into that, just know I don’t have much to add to that discourse.

Vidya Games:

I don’t have a rolling list of favs, so here’s what I’ve been playing lately-

Civilization 6, Call of Duty: Warzone, Overwatch, Minecraft, Tokyo Mirage, MLB The Show 20, Tomodachi Life, Golf With Your Friends

If you backed me into a corner at a bar and demanded my all-time favs, I’d probably rattle off a list including Persona 5, Fallout: New Vegas, Stronghold: Crusader, Tyrian, Donkey Kong Country, Mortal Kombat and others. Honestly, there’s too many games so I don’t bother trying to keep an organized list. They’re all great.

Music:

Again, I don’t bother with keeping an all-time favorites list. I listen to what fits my mood, and my mood shifts CONSTANTLY. So here’s what I’ve been into lately-

Disclosure: I like to drink. I’m trying to be more mindful of it. Quarantine has been a tale of extremes- I’m either not drinking at all, or drinking way too much, so I’m trying to find a happy medium that is both enjoyable but kind to my body. I feel good about where I’m at right now- as I told a friend earlier this week, I think pizza might actually be a more pressing health risk to me, at this point. Heh.

Before I cut back on beer, I was a big Double IPA guy. Love Steel Toe Brewery, Summit Brewing, Fulton- mostly local companies. When I was on my light beer kick I got in deep with Michelob Ultra. Then I woke up, realized that wasn’t the kind of life I wanted for myself, and dropped that hard and fast.

Now I’m trying to do sake. I have a new order coming in from Tippsy, so I’ll let y’all know how that goes. My electric sake warmer arrived today :)

How do you personally deal with writing or drawing slumps when tackling your comic?

Usually? Hate myself.

Ok, really, I don't have any good strategies for dealing with this, and half the time I can't even recognize when I'm in a slump until it's been going on far too long. I'll be very interested to see what others have to say.

Nutty (Court of Roses)

To be honest, I just power through it. If I'm in a writing slump, I have a lot of boring times at work to idly think about the scene; I'll even scribble down notes to use later. If it's an art slump, I'll do a warmup and then power through, knowing that some panels may not be perfect, but as long as it's readable, it's better than nothing.

I immediately go to consume other media that either inspired me to make my own content, or something new and fresh to help with ideas. At the same time, I go back to studying things like anatomy , perspective, or draw environments to basically keep me in the creative game. I think it's important to take breaks from your large projects, and focus on something else you could use as a creative outlet! another big thing that gets me out of any kind of slump is to talk about the creative process of others works. talk to other writers/authours and get to know the way they plan a piece/project! I find it an easy inspiration to kick my ass into art mode

Similar to feathernotes, and Nutty, if I've gotten in a slump, it's a combination of powering through and consuming something fresh. +Powering through helps you practice staying motivated with projects, and it helps if you don't let yourself think of a project as a chore. Like, "No this is something I enjoy doing!" +Consuming fresh media gives your creative muscles time to rest, and can also inspire you. +On the flip side, working on a DIFFERENT project of some sort, maybe another medium of art, helps me out of slumps sometimes, because then I'm still being creative, but not beating an unconscious horse. (it's not a dead horse, it'll wake up eventually)

Ha same as you guys, I'll try to read, watch, or play something new to get ideas flowing, though I may also just do a bunch of out there sketches just for me to experiment with new things outside the norm.

But if I'm real bummed out, I usually mope around and try to power through as well, cause sometimes just finishing something can help snap me out of it too

On top of what people have already said, I think it's important to ask...is there a reason you're in a slump? I don't just mean external reasons (like work-related stress or a personal health issue -- though those can definitely affect your creativity, so addressing them can help). I mean about the comic itself. What's the next part you were planning to draw, and is there anything about it that's dragging down your enthusiasm?

Sometimes the slump is your instincts trying to tell you something. Like, if the issue is "well, this part is really tedious, but I next to get through it in order to set up the exciting bit that I want to draw," the next question is, how much setup do you actually need? Can you just...skip to the exciting bit? The buildup should be fun and engaging in its own right. If you find yourself slogging through a stretch that doesn't inspire you, there's a good chance it's not going to inspire readers either, and a lot of them will drift away before you even get to the payoff.

...me, I'm up against a wall right now for a different reason, which is that I'm approaching the Last Chapter. It has to deliver a satisfying payoff on everything that's been set up over the entire course of the comic, or else that's it, time's up, no more chances. So that's, uh, a bit intimidating.

@ErinPtah (Leif & Thorn | BICP) that's a reallu good point! Taking that time to do some reflection on your work and the possibility of it's course being what is causing your slump is important! I think that in those cases specifically, having a small community that can beta for you or give you feedback is invaluable

I usually fall into just one side of things - either a drawing slump or a writing slump, rarely both. When I don't want to draw, I write, and when I don't want to write, I draw. So... I'm fortunate that way. I find myself being so single-minded in finishing this crazy comic project, I find a way to swap my slumps so I am at least working on something. Maybe I'm setting myself up for a mega-slump further down the line, though... so I'll have to watch out (edited)

For art slumps it's often "i didn't think this scene through, this page is way too complex, why did i include a crowd here", etc. And for that I just gotta power through - I know I wrote the script like that because I liked it, so if I want the audience to like the page I have to draw it the way I originally intended without cutting corners. For writing slumps - what @ErinPtah (Leif & Thorn | BICP) said. If I don't want to write, I probably don't like what I'm writing very much. The big example I can think of is Book 3's script. My original draft was just awful, WAAAY too slow, messed up Mizuki's power scaling, was too edgy, the works. There was a chapter where Mizuki and friends have to sit around in a desert for 80 hours. That chapter alone was going to be over 200 pages long, and involve the gang fighting a sandworm and a reference to Holes. There was a chapter where Mizuki and her friends use their magic to play basketball against one really powerful opponent. I literally never made it past that arc because it was too boring and too derivative. There was one character whose magic ability was demon wings, a character whose ability was Mercy from Overwatch, one whose magic was steampunk aesthetic, and one whose ability was butterfly wings. Their personalities were as follows: none. Book 3 has a group of people who are supposed to be among the most powerful and interesting magic fighters in the comic. One of those people had acid breath that smells like perfume as her magic ability. She's defeated by a character turning into someone so beautiful that she faints. There are like... two scenes that I kept from that original draft (and even those had lines changed). Everything else was completely re-done. And now? I'd say it's honestly my favorite script I've done for any of the books so far. Every minor character is interesting and has a full arc, it's not a million pages long, the fights are good, etc.(edited)

So Destiny 2 is finally on PC and it’s so gorgeous I could die. Actually I frequently do die. By jumping off cliffs that funny enough are not places you can go down to look at.

Peri gave me a lore video to watch and I have some blogs/tags to plunder but I wanted to type up my first impressions because I didn’t take notes on my phone for nothing

I have to say, the most crushing blow to my expectations is that Cayde is pronounced “Kade” rather than “Kay-dee” which is how I always read it for the last. Two? Three years?? I refuse to believe you’d put a silent y in the middle of the name when Cade/Kade are also names that exist

Anyway

I played my first 2 hours alone, which was up through finding the EDZ and getting my light back, then played with friends for the rest of the storyline.

To get the scenery gushing out of the way: oh my god, I forgot how much I missed outer space scenery until loading into this game. Like, No Man’s Sky did provide a nice booster shot and I legitimately enjoy the game, but it just can’t compare to actual level design and detail work in these Destiny maps. A little way through the first mission, it actually made me a bit nostalgic for Mass Effect too (particularly 3). I think Nessus is my fav so far, the color combination is SO good

To give you a good idea, I left my team for a bit today and rejoined them, and as soon as I spotted a side room with pretty lights I wandered into it, freaked out about how cool the dark patches with sparkly lights are and how weird it is when you get close to them, and they laughed and told me that was EXACTLY what they’d predicted I’d do.

Gamplay stuff

I misread the enemies as “legendary” instead of “legionary” and thought they were just trying to stroke my ego right up front.

It is reeeaaaally not obvious which doors will and won’t open. The story missions are quite linear, but I have trouble knowing which door will actually take me somewhere without consulting my ghost.

I absolutely adore the jumping and gliding mechanics (though I had to have Peri explain to me how your angle works), and parkour/climbing scenery frequently leads to great views and/or my death. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be that advantageous to find weird positions in fights. I’d love to stay up on pillars and snipe, but I never seem to have enough sniper ammo.

Speaking of ammo, ... I can’t remember why I put this bullet point down, it literally just says “Ammo”. Maybe I was just gonna comment on how it’s weird to actually have ammo now since Overwatch is infinite? It drops pretty generously, but I have to actually go pick it up which I don’t want to do in the middle of a firefight, so eh.

I basically already loved my ghost before I even started playing, but I Love My Ghost.

As much as I dig outer space, the Earth scenery is actually fairly captivating as well. Like, when you start following the hawk, I was just looking around in wonder. And I also jumped off a cliff for the first time because I didn’t see the path jog to the right and assumed you go straight, which turns out is a fairly common cause of my death.

I really enjoy the “sight to fight” ratio, so to speak. The only fight that’s been really obnoxiously long was changing my subclass back to Voidwalker. There’s whole stretches of areas on the story missions where you just look around. Enjoy the view. Enjoy it even more if you don’t move on for like five minutes. Coughs

The starting gear was honestly my favorite look I’ve had so far, I really wish there was a way to keep it. I know I’ll probably be getting cool legendaries soon that look nice, but ugh the golden edging just matched my glowing golden eyes so well! I did also really enjoy that tunic with the little wings that lets you hover and shoot, but it only works with Dawnbreaker subclass which was a huge bummer.

I do wish the subclasses had more customization/options. I have extra skill points and nowhere to put them? I only have a handful of options that are all unrelated to each other as opposed to rpg skill trees that I’m used to. Ehhh. (Also not very many facial customization options. :| )

The map is a ton more cohesive and like... seamless? Than I expected? Like I thought you’d have to go through a bunch of menus any time you wanted to do a different activity, but you can just run across open world maps and happen into public activities, find the flags for adventures and decide to just do it, and so on. It’s been really neat.

Lore I feel like I don’t know very well atm, but I’m gonna soon. There are a lot of scenes that I kinda figure would hit harder if I’d played Destiny 1.

Also I just want Ikora and hawk lady to love me.

And shoutout to my Overwatch friends for dragging me into Destiny 2 with them!! I was on the fence about it, admittedly partially because I feel like I’m just leagues behind on lore/dedication compared to people I follow here on Tumblr and I’m hesitant about dipping my toes in, but then I decided aw fuck it. I dunno what my activity level will be, but it’s not like I’m obligated to join in. Shrugs. And also I figured it would be worth it just for the scenery (and it was......)

Day Seven: Recovery

             Staring at the ceiling, Evan tried to breathe evenly. It was hard to do with her nightmare lingering at the edge of her thoughts. She didn’t know what to do. She didn’t really want to stay in bed but where was she going to go? Where would she even want to go? She was still staying at Juno’s, not just because it was doctor’s orders but also the Strike-Commander’s. Until they were completely sure whoever had tampered with her lab had been fully dealt with, they didn’t want her being alone.

           She didn’t really want that either but even being around other people wasn’t helping with her nightmares.

           Her hands were shaking a little as she pushed herself up, shifting to swing her legs over the side of the bed. She didn’t want to lay here anymore. Maybe she’d make a cup of tea, cuddle with her cats, do something that wasn’t just sit here and try not to think about her nightmares or what happened.

           Moving as quietly as she could, she left the room and crept down the hallway. She heard the quiet footfalls of her cats as they followed her but other than that the apartment was silent around her. She tried to stay quiet as she turned the kettle on, setting up what she would need for her tea. It was easy enough to do since Juno hadn’t moved anything since she’d lived here.

           A small smile touched Evan’s face as she thought about that. She hadn’t actually lived with Juno for long in the grand scope of things, but it had been so good while she had. She’d had so much fun, grown to love the woman so much, and she wished she’d come back here for a different reason.

           Her hands shook again as she grabbed her cup and nearly dropped it. Why had that happened? Of all the people in Overwatch, why had that happened to her? Was it because of her connections inside the organization? Was it because of what she had made or was trying to make? Why?

           She nearly jumped out of her skin when hands cupped her own, helping her keep her hold on her cup.

           “Woah, there, Bambi. Jus’ me,” a sleepy voice murmured.

           Evan stared at Jesse in the low light of the kitchen, no words coming.

           “’Nother nightmare?” he asked gently.

           She nodded.

           “Wanna talk ‘bout it?”

           Evan shrugged. What was there to talk about? It was the same as the others; being trapped in the lab, in the fire, not being able to get out, not able to get away.

           He sighed and moved one hand to cup her cheek. “How’s yer head?”

           She shrugged again. It hurt but that was what happened when you had a concussion.

           “Ev, darlin’, talk to me,” he urged gently.

           “I don’t know what to say,” she said honestly.

           He took the cup from her and set it on the counter. “I ain’t sayin’ we gotta talk ‘bout what happened. I ain’t no therapist but you can always talk to me. You know that.”

           She did know that but she really didn’t know what to say. From everything she’d been told, her lab had been tampered with by someone within Overwatch and they’d tried to both destroy her work and kill her. If they had a suspect in mind, they hadn’t told her and she wasn’t sure if it was because they didn’t know or didn’t want her worrying about it.

           Jesse’s thumb rubbed against her cheek. “Want to watch a movie?” he suggested.

           “We’ll wake Juno,” she said, shaking her head.

           He hummed lowly. “Alright, get your coat.”

           Evan blinked at him. “What?”

           “We’re gonna take a walk. Get you some fresh air.”

           “Ah,” she said, hesitating. She hadn’t really left Juno’s place since she’d been released from the medical wing. She’d gone on the balcony but she didn’t think that counted in his mind.

           “Hey, trust me?” he said softly. “I ain’t gonna let anythin’ happen to you.”

           She knew that. He wasn’t the problem.

           “Ev, you can’t stay in here forever,” he reminded her. “If you do…they win.”

           Her eyes squeezed tightly shut and she took a deep breath. She nodded quickly. “Okay,” she said.

           He kissed her forehead. “C’mon, Ev. Get your coat and shoes on.”

           She stayed near him for a second longer before shuffling away. It wasn’t until she was putting on her shoes that she realised she was still in her nightgown. “Uhm….”

           “You’re fine, darlin’,” he told her, slinging his coat on as well. “It’s warm out.”

           She wasn’t so sure about that but she finished getting her things on without further comment. Her gaze moved across the apartment when she heard a noise and saw Juno standing in the hallway. So much for not waking anyone. She’d woken everyone in the house.

           Jesse followed her gaze and made a noise under his breath. “We’re just goin’ for a walk, Juno,” he told her. “We’ll be right back.”

           The older woman glanced between the two of them. “You have your phone and your gun?” she asked bluntly.

           “Yes, ma’am.”

           Wait, he did? Had he grabbed the gun before he’d come to her in the kitchen? He must have because he hadn’t left her. Had he been worried about something?

           “I’ll wait until you get back,” she said, moving toward the couch. “Don’t be too long. It’s late.”

           Jesse nodded before gently pushing Evan toward the door. She didn’t even get to grab her keys as he scooped them up, practically herding her out of the apartment. She stayed quiet as they went downstairs, grabbing his hand as soon as they were outside.

           It was a warm night but she still got a chill as they walked. She was sure it was just her imagination playing tricks on her and kept her mouth shut about it. No need to babble at him about something that wasn’t real.

           They quietly wandered away from the living complexes and Evan wasn’t sure what to think about that. Was he quiet because he didn’t know what to say either? Was he quiet because he was tired of dealing with her nightmares? She shook her head at herself, wincing at little as her head throbbed.

           “Easy,” he said softly as she stepped into him. “Ain’t nothin’ gonna come at you here, Ev.”

           “Except they did,” she said, her voice just as soft. “They came into my lab, tampered with my equipment and tried to kill me in the one place I should have been safe.”

           His grip on her hand tightened and he tugged her around a corner.

           “How am I supposed to go back to work when I know that someone got that deep into Overwatch to get to me?” Evan continued. “What am I supposed to do? Close off my lab so no one can ever go into it? Not work on anything with the black matter tech? Not work on anything?”

           She saw him throw her a look as they passed under a lamp but he still didn’t say anything.

           “I’m used to people not liking me, not thinking that I belonged here because I wasn’t supposed to talk about my tech or I was too young but none of them ever tried to kill me. They just gave me the cold shoulder.” Which hurt in a different way but nothing like this.

           Jesse made a quiet noise and kept leading her.

           Her heels suddenly dug into the sidewalk when she realised where they were going.

           “Ev, c’mon,” Jesse said, tugging on her gently. “You need to see it.”

           She’d seen photos of it. She didn’t want to actually see it.

           “Hey,” he said lowly, “we ain’t gonna go in. We’re gonna stay outside but you need to see it.”

           She was definitely dragging her feet as he coaxed her to keep going, her fingers squeezing his tighter with every step. When he finally stopped, it took her a long minute before she looked up.

           It wasn’t easy to see the damage in the dark but the lights on the side of the building showed her enough. Scorch marks above and below a set of blown out windows. Twisted metal inside. Fire damage on everything. Her imagination could fill in the rest.

           “Breathe for me, Ev,” he said quietly. “Keep breathing.”

           It was hard but she managed to after a moment. “I don’t like this,” she whispered.

           His face tightened and he nodded. “Alright, let’s go back.”

           “No, Jesse, I mean….” What did she mean? She was scared, she knew that and she knew she had every reason to be. But…. “I don’t know how to stop feeling like this.”

           “You can’t just stop being scared, Ev. Don’t work like that.”

           “I know but…inventing has always made me happy. I love doing it and now because of this I….”

           He sighed. “Bambi, it’s little steps,” he said patiently. “You were hurt pretty damn bad but you need to think ‘bout the other things. They did try to kill you. Try. It didn’t work. You were smart enough to keep that from happening.”

           “It was luck I had the shield grenade,” she muttered.

           “Maybe, but you were still smart enough to use it, to use it in a way that saved your life,” Jesse stressed. “Most people woulda panicked with all the shit goin’ wrong ‘round them like that but you didn’t.”

           She made a face.

           “Don’t do that, Ev. Don’t play down what you did. You saved your own life doing that.”

           She…supposed that was technically right.

           He let go of her hand to cup her face. “You are the smartest person I know,” he said quietly. “And I ain’t sayin’ that cause I love you. You are crazy fuckin’ smart, Ev, and I know you’re scared right now, but I want you to remember that.”

           So smart that someone had tried to kill her. Her eyes squeezed shut at that thought and she took a deep breath. “I don’t think I can go in the lab yet,” she admitted slowly, “but…I want to work again.”

           He was smiling faintly as she looked at him again. “Doc said your head is still gonna hurt for a little while so you’re really gonna have to work less,” he told her. “None of this bullshit you usually pull when you’re working.”

           A small laugh left her at the annoyed tone in his voice. “I’ve gotten better.”

           “Yeah, cause me and Juno are on your ass to eat every now and then.” He paused and kissed her forehead again after rolling his eyes. “But I’ll talk to Juno about gettin’ you a computer to work on.”

           She smiled up at him. “Jesse?”

           “Mm?”

           “Do you really have your gun?”

           He laughed and gave her a lopsided smile. “You bet yer ass I do.”

           Somehow that actually made her feel better.

           “C’mon, Bambi,” he said softly, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. “Let’s get you back home before your ma sends someone lookin’ for you.”

           Evan threw one last look at the lab and, even though it still chilled her to think about what happened…she was going to start working again. She needed to start working again.

Happy Reaper76 Week everyone! 

I honestly did not think that I would fall so deep into the Overwatch fandom, but then these sad old men punched me in the feels and well...here I am stuck in R76 hell lol.  I haven't been this obsessed with a ship in a loooong time.
