do you think CAYA louis was attracted to harry since the first time he saw him? (i mean the one at uni not the real first time they saw each other) like genuinely attracted like when you see someone on the bus and think they’re really pretty and seem really interesting and maybe you also fantasize for a bit although you know it’s something you’ll never have

I’m not 100% sure what you mean by the real first time they saw each other. The very first time louis sees harry would have been at Oxford for Harry’s “interview” before the start of the story. I hope I’m not misremembering my own fic 😭

I think Louis spent a lot of time repressing his attraction to men in general. so the first time he sees harry, it's unlikely imo that he would have fantasized about him. In the first chapter, there’s also this moment:

“Louis looks at him for a half-second too long. And doing so annoys him in a way he doesn’t understand and can’t put his finger on.”

and I feel like that moment is the closest thing to what you’re describing. that moment is louis really being drawn in to how harry looks and acts, but the very instant he feels any sort of suggestion of attraction, he doesn't react openly to it. he feels bothered by it and quickly shuts it down.

it's also unlikely that he couldn't "put his finger on" why he was annoyed. like if he actually allowed himself to think about it, i think he'd very quickly realize he finds harry gorgeous and charming and he's annoyed because feeling those feelings is a complicated and slippery slope.

obviously louis does eventually begin to fantasize about harry and envision a reality with him that he thinks he can't have, but realistically, i think those fantasies and that sort of relentless attraction comes much later for louis, probably once he's no longer able to deny just how pretty and alluring harry is lol

My conspiratorial belief that I wholeheartedly believe should not be considered an extremist thing is that IUDs and birth control pills are fucking poison and should not be treated as an inevitable requirement for adult life. Yes there are some exceptions for certain health conditions, but those exceptions are rare, and still! This does not diminish the reality that hormonal contraception is literally classified by the government as a class one carcinogen. This shit is pushed onto women as a product of pharmaceutical bribery. Better options have been invented, maybe, but don’t expect to find them in this capitalistic hell of a country.

It is entirely possible to stack non hormonal methods and prevent pregnancy. Diaphragms are still available. Femcaps are available. (If your doctor or local pharmacy or insurance insists otherwise then contact Caya directly and take instructions from there.)

Fertility tracking helps when you actually educate yourself on how to do it rather than relying on an app. Spermicide is literal detergent and it fucking sucks, but cellulose gel (which is effective and less abrasive than spermicide, but is not available in US since the FDA can’t be bothered to test it) can be imported from Europe. Pulling out is effective. Condoms are effective.

And again, I’m not saying it’s advisable to rely on any of these methods alone. That would be stupid. But just because a non-hormonal method alone has like, a 70% success rate doesn’t mean you can’t bring your odds close to 100% by stacking them.

On the highest overlook of the Stormwind harbor, tucked behind its safe white walls and half-hidden by stone and trees, there is a tavern. It is not a widely advertised tavern, but somehow manages to fill up each night. The building has been carved out of the earth and stone, concealed from passing view, and accessible only by a guarded door.

Inside, all manner of vices are served. These require little imagination to summon up; most people will list off the same four or five deadly vices which they indulge in, and it varies little. This tavern is no different, save that they have few qualms about allowing those indulgences which are illegal, and keep a strict, orderly place. It’s clean, well-guarded, and well-managed. Harlots, drug dealers, and those wishing to buy from either might visit the tavern with reasonable certainty that they will be safe. Or as safe as one can be in such a trade.

It was named The Barracks, as many years ago it had housed Stormwind soldiers. Before Deathwing came and set half the city on fire, necessitating much of it to be rebuilt. This little corner had been stolen or bought by the underworld, and they enjoyed their little joke of calling it a 'barracks' still. Plenty of people slept there, and soldiers visited it plenty. 

It was a good place to work for a woman like Caya. The legality of her trade wasn’t clearly understood, and seemed to vary on the year and region, but out of prudence most people were subtle about it. She didn’t have a word for her profession. ‘Dancer’ made one want to roll the eyes, as it evoked either a naked woman slipping down a pole or a professional in a leotard bounding around onstage. She was neither of those things. ‘Courtesan’ felt too pompous. True, she serviced nobles, and she’d been to court a handful of times, but that wasn’t her exclusive clientele.

Caya called herself a Paramour instead. It was a broad enough term to cover her skillset, and made it rather obvious what line of work she was in. This title was further supported by the way she presented herself. In the summertime she wore fine-spun cotton or light silks, delicately crafted skirts or dresses which barely covered her enticing figure. Jewelry clung to every surface on her body; a row of earrings marched along the shell of her ear, necklaces hugged her throat, bracelets jangled on her wrists. Her long, gleaming hair hung in softly curling ringlets, and its color changed depending on her mood or the day. She’d chosen auburn this week, a rich brown-and-red which highlighted her healthy tanned skin.

Tonight, her work had taken her to the Barracks. She had no steady clients at the moment, and when she wanted coin she could dance and flirt and sing at the tavern. The guards there were good; she only had to signal them and they’d usher away a patron who was too handsy or obnoxious. She slept with no one that night yet; sex wasn’t as much a part of her job as being social was. People paid to have a pretty, charming thing on their arm, and if she warmed their bed afterwards it was only by her choice. That, and the very generous purse they’d give her for it.

Her current patron would be generous. True, he was drunk, but she’d seen him before in the bar and he never caused much trouble. His face was bland but kind, with close-set eyes and a big nose, and a wide mouth inclined towards friendly smiles. Caya liked him. Enough to take his money, anyway. Some third son of a nobleman, not much supervised but with gold enough to burn. She let him escort her from the barracks, and when he shyly proposed they take a walk through the forest path around the lake, she knew what he wanted.

They found themselves in a sheltered cove, made of trees grown close together, and cleverly accessible by a winding path. A stone bench with moss growing on its feet was nestled beneath one of the trees. No doubt her patron had used this place before, for even drunk he’d come straight here without pause. Caya found it amusing that no one else was here; it was the sort of place that many people likely knew about and thought themselves clever for finding.

In due course he had her disrobed and laid out beneath him on the grass. Caya twined her fingers in his hair and whispered sweet half-lies to him, while he grunted and went about his business. She was only half-paying attention. It was poor manners of her to do so, but he was drunk enough that she didn’t think he’d notice or even remember. The poor lad had whiskey dick, and kept apologizing and repositioning himself. Caya smiled and ran her fingers down the back of his neck, softly telling him there was no rush, she was having a perfectly pleasant evening.

She was, truly. But her attention strayed from the eager man atop her up to the treetops above them, wandering through the pattern of branches against the starlit sky. It was a full moon tonight. She could see the buds of spring just barely starting to open on the tips of the branches, leaves ready to unfurl with just a little more sun and rain. It smelled like fresh earth and new grass here. The ground was cool against her back, and she was grateful no little creepy-crawlies had come to investigate her yet.

Eventually her young noble began to flag, and Caya took matters into her own hands. He mauled her chest about with artless grabbing, as she slipped astride him and put on a very mediocre performance. This lad would never know the difference. Soon enough he was panting, and she let out all the appropriate sounds herself, and he tensed and sagged with relief.

A heavy, contented silence fell. Caya curled up in the crook of his arm, a hand on his chest and her eyes half-closed. His body was warm and soft; the pampered figure of a man who had done very little work in his life. She didn’t let herself doze while he slept through the worst of his drunken stupor, keeping her mind occupied by hunting out constellations and recalling the rest of her evening. There were worse places to relax than a patch of clean grass in a springtime forest, in the arms of a willing partner.

Eventually her back began to protest, reminding her that she was twenty-and-six now and really shouldn’t sleep on the ground anymore. She roused her noble lad, who smiled sleepily at her. Some soft conversation, a few lighthearted comments, and she had her gold. Caya didn’t leave straight after. She wanted her clients to feel that she’d picked them for more than just their pocketbook. It was true too; she never picked someone she greatly disliked.

He walked her back into the city. She playfully picked a few pieces of grass out of his hair before giving him a sweet kiss good-bye. Then, exhausted, she made her way down to the Trade District, to a hidden little flat where she could sleep at last.

Caya discussions... I'm seated 👩‍🏫

I've always wondered about Louis' internal process when he came to ny after Harry. When did he decide he was gonna go for it? What would he do if Harry never showed up to the bookstore?

i feel like i won't explain this well, but by chp 19/20, louis is in a constant state of wanting to be with harry. like in his heart, he's already determined that's what he wants (even if in his head, he's also determined that he can't have him).

so, during the time that they spend apart, louis wants to be with him. there are several things that keep him from pursuing him. his grief, his trauma, even his writing. once he starts the work of processing all of that and begins to heal, i think as the sort of logical methodical person he is, the next and obvious step to him is to see harry and try talking things through again. it's not like he ever has like a change of heart or he sees the light. it's more so like his life is a puzzle he's slowly putting back together and harry is the final and most important missing piece. i feel like his thought process simply put would be "i feel better than i have in years and well enough to tell him how i feel."

this is just how i understand caya louis at least. and it's why i never wrote a eureka moment where louis perhaps has a conversation with someone who tells him to go after harry or something like that. i really just feel like it was always clear to louis that he wanted to be with harry and should be with harry but he had some work to do before that could ever feel possible.

i think if harry never showed up at the bookstore, louis would have just kept waiting and hoping for a opportunity to see him. he probably would have reached out to harry's mum again lol... it's like he wrote in his book: only harry's love would do. so whether he saw him at the bookstore or not, he definitely wouldn't have given up on having that love again.

edit: okay, just to quickly add to this, i think caya louis does see the light, but it's more so related to him realizing that he can heal and he can be better and that he's worthy of love. but not related to him wanting to be with harry vs not. i feel like there's a distinction there. again, this is so hard to articulate for some reason.

I’ve had multiple comments and asks to this effect over the past few weeks, so I think I need to make it clear that 

1. Writing is my personal hobby. It is not my job for a reason. I do not have a “posting schedule” for a reason. I cannot increase my output for any incentive, monetary or otherwise

2. Anyone trying to connect my writing output with the invasion of Ukraine is completely nuts

I love my audience, but the stories i write are for me. I’m happy to share them with you all and enjoy them together, but please don’t mistake me for some kind of vending machine that will produce Content if only you shove in the correct token
