SLIDE 2: BASIC INFORMATION pt. 1

FULL NAME: AMON

in GALERE those who are not of nobility literally do not have surnames. they’re not considered important enough to have them.

ie: erecia, terian, asahel, tamhas, vira, miss. shanin, knox, etc. none of these characters have surnames

HOWEVER, amon has a secret identity — or could’ve had one, its complicated — that many of these non-noble characters don’t know about:

after amon was attacked by the gang THE KEYS and his mother was killed, he was found and saved by a noble family: lord and lady farrah. unable to have children themselves, the two wanted to adopt the young boy, despite his many scars from the attack, to serve as their heir.

there are 2 alternate universe aus where amon does stay with the farrah’s and becomes their heir ⟶ the role swap au & the fiance au.

however, in canon, amon runs away from them after he heals at about 12 years old and returns to the slums of halifax, which are his home.

knox wants to focus lock efforts on keeping the slums safe for everyone who lives there. however, amon knows that they will never be safe if the keys continue to stalk their streets at night. he wants to cut the head off of the proverbial snake—and take out their leader once and for all!

the only problem? well. 

the leader of the keys is THE KEEPER.

there are 2 photos of amon to display how he looks. the first is a close up shot of amon--he has short cropped hair in a messy style, and sweeps on the left side over his brow bone. he has a few pinkish colored scars that criss cross his neck and he is making a smarmy expression. the second photo is a full body (sans feet) shot of amon bloodied and covered in bandages. the scars are revealed to cover most of his upper torso and one of his eyes is blackened.

SLIDE 6: SCARS

as a child, amon and his mother were attacked by keys; leaving him both an orphan and on the brink of death. miraculously (and with medical intervention) amon survived, but the attack left a mark on him—mentally and physically. 

to this day, amon hasn’t said what exactly the keys did to him to leave such marks. but nearly every available surface of his skin, including his genitals has some form of scarring. the worst scars are on his back. 

he is somewhat self conscious about them only because people can become uncomfortable about them. 

there is a photo of the backside of amon that showcases the scars on his back. the largest is one at the near center that goes from the top of his shoulder blades crossing diagonally down to his tailbone.

SLIDE 7: IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIPS

KNOX ⟶ as mentioned, knox is like a father figure to amon and he was the one who took him in once he returned to the slums after the brief period he lived with the farrah’s. while knox is wise and caring, he is critical of amon’s fight now, questions later approach, and tends to reproach him for causing ‘unnecessary drama’. despite this, he knows amon has the slums and the gang’s best interest at heart, and the two of them never stay mad at each other for long. knox is also willing to help in SOME of amon’s exploits (not all)

ERECIA ⟶ amon’s best friend and right hand man, the two have known each other since they were extremely small, and rekindled their friendship after they both experienced personal tragedy (erecia lost her father, and amon lost his mother/almost died/left the slums/came back). while amon is more verbally affectionate and likes to deflect his inner mind, erecia is someone who (to his chagrin) knows him very, very well. to the point that she is genuinely surprised at how enraptured amon has become with hya. she worries about him.

SLIDE 8: EXPLAINING THE OBSESSION WITH HYACINTHUS SHRAPNEL

this is extremely difficult to explain because in a number of ways, amon doesn’t really understand it either. he didn’t think much of hya at first; and at first, definitely only saw him as a means (the wife of the keeper) to an end (killing the keeper).

its the perfect storm of fucking around and finding out—not that i can blame him. he’s fucked hundreds of people without catching feelings; why should a pompous little lord be different? 

it’s more than just the fact that he can get a rise out of hya as amon can get a rise out of most people if he tries hard enough. it’s more than the fact that he thinks hya is attractive (and he does, immensely so) — somehow, hya is the perfect storm of a stubborn ass prick that fires all of amon’s dog-like synapses. 

he’s extremely lucky that hya feels the same about him tbh, even if its unsaid. idk. they’re made for each other.

William/Willow [M/F] - The Undisguised Wolf - 20

They say if you gaze into the abyss, it tends to gaze back and tells you what you’re made of. That’s how it feels when this quiet storm enters a room, the room grows cold and the fun dies out. No one knows what lurks behind those eyes, and no one knows for sure if they’re the eyes of a monster.

Personality: W is a deeply troubled individual whose affection is almost expected to spiral into obsession. Initially, they present themselves as only a gruff and standoffish character, but this facade may quickly crumble to reveal an unstable and dangerously possessive persona. Their friendships will eventually turn strained or become nonexistent due to W's erratic behavior and inability to prioritize the needs of those around them. Why did they decide to become a counselor? We may never know.

Description: W stands at 6'0 (male)/5'10 (female) with a fair skin tone. They have fairly long wavy black hair that they mostly keep in a ponytail, though their front strands frame their face as their deep green eyes stare into you. W looks intimidating, and radiates the word 'danger' in all the ways one can imagine. They don't fight, because people are not dumb enough to take them on. Those who do, are usually willing to risk their lives.

W is like most counselors and will wear the standard outfit of T-shirts and shorts, though they are seen now and again wearing a sleeveless vest to keep their hands busy. On the weekends, W prefers a more casual and subdued attire. Hoodie, jeans, combat boots, the whole brooding mile. They also possess a ring on their right hand, an engraved eagle for William, and a lion for Willow.

I love them all very much! They all are the POV characters, but not all the POVs are equally distributed... for example, Micah is narrating a huge chunk of the story, while Valentina not so much.

Character Intro

Tech-savvy and mechanically minded, Cam is currently working as a mechanic in a garage close to Misty Cove so that they can see their parents over the summer. They are currently going to grad school for mechanical engineering at Cal-tech. Even after you all stopped talked, they still send postcards and pictures to you.

Cameron has always been a hard worker, and 100% of their effort goes into whatever their goals are. They are passionate about all of their interests, whether it's engineering or mystery solving and being with friends, they will always find a positive aspect of a scenario.

They are likely the sweetest person you have ever met, even if sometimes they are too kind to people who don't deserve it. They will often let their emotions get the better of them, needing others to be the voice of reason in a lot of scenarios. Out of the four of you, Cam was always the one who needed to do what was right, no matter the cost.

Cameron is gender selectable.

Appearance

Cam has dark skin and brown eyes. Their hair at this point in time is a dark brown, but as a teenager was most often dyed a dark red. They have a very relaxed sense of style, often just wearing a t-shirt or tank top with a pair of jeans they've likely had since their first year of college. Despite their laid back style, They have extensive and somewhat ridiculous hair and skin care routines. While they do have ear piercings, they tend to wear simple stud earrings, for practicality.

Fem Cameron wears her hair in box braids, and is 5'10. She wears minimal makeup, most often just mascara.

Masc Cameron has a fade cut and is 6'0.

Conrad 'Covey' Covington The eldest of the Covington children, and the Heir to the family business, Covey spends his teenage years partying it up. Making bad choices that will get his name splashed across the Gossip Girl Alerts is his favorite thing to do. in the reboot, he's comfortably living his life as the man in charge of Covington Hotels and Resorts.

Tinsley Covington Yes I did technically already post about her but whatever. The middle Covington Child, Tinsley is a princess, there's no doubt about that, but she's also wildly competitive and smart as a whip. Top of her class right up to graduation. She also ends up helping Tripp Vanderbilt with his senate campaign. In the reboot she and her husband take in her youngest sister and she's struggling with the balance between work and domestic life

Shipley Covington The youngest Covington, Shipley moved to Paris with her mother when she was 6. Now, after being kicked out of school, she's been sent to live with her sister and brother in law and learning how to live among the New York Elite

Harry Potter

Violet Lovelace Always known as a Spitfire and a visionary, Violet Lovelace had one weakness. Tom Riddle. MEET GREER SHERIDAN

NAME: Greer Jolie Sheridan.

AGE: Fifteen years old (born July 31st, 2008).

ZODIAC SIGN: Leo (she doesn’t really believe in astrology, but Charlie insists they fit her sign perfectly).

LOCATION: Nightshade Hollow, Virginia (their home, though she never would have thought it would be when they arrived).

OCCUPATION: Sophomore at Nightshade Hollow High School.

FACECLAIM: Sophia Lillis.

ABOUT: Greer was born into a family without a purpose, and she’d always thought it showed pretty perfectly in their upbringing. The Sheridan family had been familiars - shapeshifters created hundreds of years ago when the first witch had received her power, made to create a bond to those who could do magic and strengthen their abilities - for generations, but after a disagreement between Greer’s great-grandfather and the patriarch of the family the Sheridans had been bound to, the familiar-witch bond between them had been forcibly severed, and for decades now the family had been aimlessly drifting, trying in vain to find a new witch bloodline to attach themselves to.

This being adrift, this loss of the family’s purpose as familiars, had shown pretty clearly in the family’s attitudes, particularly in those of Greer’s parents, Bonnie and Malcolm Sheridan. Greer's conception was a complete accident - without a witch family to bond with, most of the family saw little point in having any children - and for the most part, they certainly treated her like a mistake they didn't want to acknowledge. From a very young age, Greer had had to learn to be self-sufficient, teaching themself how to cook and mend her clothes and apply first aid to the various little bumps and scrapes that came with childhood, all while their parents drifted between minimum-wage jobs and generally spent their time pretending they didn't have a child.

Finally, when she was ten years old, Greer experienced the most important event in a shapeshifter's life: the first transformation, which would reveal what their shapeshifter form would be. Despite knowing that it would come eventually, as their parents had at least cared enough to tell her about being a shapeshifter and some techniques they would need to use to control her changes, Greer was still terrified when the sudden change occurred, leaving a little hedgehog standing on the bedroom floor where their human form had just been standing. It marked the first time since Greer was about four that she had ever run to their parents for help, and, after Bonnie had coaxed her child through the focusing exercises she needed to change back, one of the few times since then that they'd cried in front of their parents. But even her tears did not move their parents very much from their apathy - they simply told Greer to practice some more of the exercises that they had shown her and left to go out with their friends.

Thankfully, Greer was a quick study when it came to mastering their shapeshifting, but after three more years of being the only one taking care of her and silent, fruitless pleas for their parents to actually look at her, they realized that she couldn't stand any of this for one second longer. On one warm night in late spring, Greer took advantage of their parents' being passed out on the couch and left the small, run-down house that was the only home she'd ever known, carrying only what they absolutely needed and refusing to look back.

Over the next several months, Greer travelled all over the state of Virginia, searching for something more than what she'd run from but not being at all sure what it was. They lived off of the charity of strangers and what little money she could earn from doing little chores for people, sleeping in local homeless shelters and never staying in one place for long, always skipping town before anyone could think enough to call Child Services. By the time they found her way to Nightshade Hollow, a tiny town with a name Greer thought was straight out of a horror movie, they were scrawny, hadn't bathed in a week, and after so long on the run, nearly ready to just try and find her way back to their parents... and that's when she ran into Addy Hawthorne.

From the moment they met Addy, Greer could sense he was a witch; the natural draw that all shapeshifters felt to magic kicked in as soon as she looked him in the eyes. Addy could clearly see how much Greer was beaten-down and struggling, as well as being able to sense that they were a shapeshifter, and despite how Greer was clearly wary and distrustful of him, offered to let her stay in his house. Despite what they were sure was her better judgement, Greer accepted his offer, and the longer they stayed with Addy, the more the two of them bonded, and the more they, as well as Addy's siblings, cousin, and friends, started to see each other as family.

Finally, almost a year after Greer decided to stay with Addy for good (with no official paperwork or custody, but this far out in the Virginia woods the law enforcement couldn't be bothered to care), the two of them made the mutual decision for Greer to officially become Addy's familiar, channeling and amplifying his magic using her little hedgehog form. Greer viewed it as undoubtedly the best decision they had ever made - not only solidifying the bond with her newfound family, but finally uniting a Sheridan shapeshifter with a witch after so many years and, in Greer's mind, effectively severing the remaining ties to their parents.

Now, a while later, Greer is very happy living as a normal (as far as the human residents of Nightshade Hollow know) teenager - going to school, crushing from afar on the new girl from Georgia in her English class, spending quality time with the Hawthorne family and their friends the Moorland siblings, and teasing Addy nonstop about his new love interest. But when a terrifying evil force starts making progress in breaking through the barriers surrounding their found home, Greer may be forced to accept the fact that her life will probably never be normal - even if they're still going to fight like hell to keep safe the only true family she's ever had.

And here we have my little shapeshifter baby Greer! They're honestly one of my favorite babies in this universe, and and I'm so excited to write more for them. I very much hope you enjoy this little intro, and seeing what I have for them going forward!

Character intros for my fantasy au! (Ordered by first completed)

Annon-Guy: What's your stance on the character intros and outros in Guilty Gear StrIVe and GranBlue Fantasy Versus?

Even if you don't know the cast, can you get good impressions based on her animations and personality triats?

For example, Sol is very gruff and not extravagant as for his intro, he just calmly walks onto the stage while his outro just has him turn his back on the opponent and smirk at them while criticizing them.

With Bedman?, it features Delilah walking by herself until Bedman? appears behind and places a protective hand in front of her and in the outro, Bedman? raises Delilah up in a brother love like fashion with It's hand with Delilah smiling back at It.

In GranBlue Fantasy Versus, most of the unique interactions mostly occur from the 2P side as the 1P side is mostly them just walking in or standing in position as they get ready and even then, the 1P side has some good moments of characterization.

Like, for Djeeta, on the 2P side, she mainly talks about the opponent with Lyria and Vern, but on the 1P side, Lyria is clutching her dress in concern until Djeeta puts a reassuring hand on her hand before Vyrn and Lyria wish Djeeta luck. With their outro, it mostly features the three joining in a triumpht cheer and arm pump.

And even though 2B's dialogue is mostly reused, she has good animations that remain true to her series and express her character. Her Pod analysis' the opponent in both, but where her 1P side just has her walk in, her 2P side has her come out of her Black Box in an epic fashion to show you that a YorHa Android is not to be messed around with. Additionally, both Intros have her adress the fighters by their In-Game Titles, which is a good forth wall break without intending to be so, which a nice touch of detail. And while 2B's outro isn't too special, she checks in with her commanding officer, showing that 2B is a loyal and just soldier.

What do you think though? Got some characters that stick out in this department?

Give me a minute to read all this:

I'm gonna say that both Strive and Granblue (and well, MOST 2.5D animated fighting games come to think on it) suffer from "Talking head syndrome".

Phase 1: Character 1 walks on stage, does some dynamic thing by themselves.

Phase 2: Closeup of character talking.

Phase 3: Character 2 walks up and responds to Character 1.

Phase 4: Zoom out and fight starts.

It's been like this since Mortal Kombat 9, to be honest… and all it really does is illustrate the idea that fighting game characters in 3D have a very hard time in production to be animated in interactive dynamic ways.

I think Tekken 8 is literally the FIRST 3D fighting game to legitimately feature "clash intros" between rival characters ever since the days of Guilty Gear Accent Core and Street Fighter Alpha had their famous "2D clash sequences".

To give you some keen examples:

Here's the BlazBlue equivalent:

The overall structure of modern fighting game intros puts emphasis on Player 1 initiating the conversation while Player 2 reciprocates.

(For a Strive example, Baiken's Intro is very long and dramatic, but if you switch to Player 2 side, Baiken's intro is much shorter... )

But in older games there was more of a balanced back and forth between characters.

Characterization is often predicated on the way a character's body language introduces them, though many intros are "bombastic", they are mostly tied to the character being introduced... that character does "not" interact with the other character physically until the fight actually begins...

Compare/Contrast Sol's Intro and Outros from previous games:

(By the way, it's not shown, but Sol bites the bullet, lighting it up with his flames, then flips it in to his weapon's gun chamber, spins it, and swipes his sword outward, creating a shockwave in his Xrd intro. This was a dual nod to an older intro where Sol would throw his sword in to the air and catch it as it came down in front of him.)

That's what I mean by "talking head syndrome"... it's just two characters talking, they aren't actually making contact with one another.

Mortal Kombat 1 features both characters clashing ala Injustice 2 style clashes, but in terms of a gimmick, it's a universal clash mechanic (meaning it isn't very unique or special between two specific character rivals, even if the dialogue is original between them).

It's been a long time since Street Fighter Alpha 3:

That's not to say that current intros don't ideally express a character well... it's just not on the same level as 2D fighting games of long ago that carried that dynamism.

What is "outstanding" in terms of character expression ranges from exaggerated sweeping movements to subtle adjustments to a character's hair as it blows in the wind.

Your mileage of opinion may vary on this.

For example, Ramlethal's outro where the Dog climbs on her and licks her face... while that's a cute freeze-frame moment, it's not QUITE as heroic-looking as Nagoriyuki's outro which shows his jacket flowing in the wind as he sheathes his katana as his mask opens to reveal his face.

Another example is Bedman's intros and outros in Xrd:

You will literally see Bedman flying around the screen with a white backdrop like he's a ghost out of a horror film... Delilah's outro with the Bedframe evokes a completely different set of emotions.

In terms of Granblue intros, while there are some good ones out there (like Vaseraga and Beelzebub), they are still very limited by the basic rule that "Character 1 does something only Character 1 can do, while Character 2 reacts to it".

While there are some personal quotes between rivals/friends, and they range from highly amusing to world-immersing, I often find that the broader "character expression" in these games lies within the music:

Take this song for example:

At first glance you might not know, but this is Zeta versus Vaseraga's Rival Theme (the intro builds up a bit quicker in-game though).

Even Sol and Ky have had rival themes for many years, if that's not obvious enough.

I'd say, getting a "full impression" of a character nowadays is a LOT harder than it used to be... and not just because of animation differences.

It's also heavily expressed in the story-writing: intros alone won't tell you a character's full story... especially if they are a complex character.

Young players might make the mistake of relying heavily on first impressions to judge whether or not a character "looks cool", but in most cases, game developers pull out ALL THE STOPS in order to achieve great things with their designs.

By and large, it mostly means that character design in fighting games is always very LAYERED... there's lots of minute details you will probably miss if you don't study the game carefully.

Are there "outstanding designs" out there? Likely true, but from my perspective, I favor the whole tapestry to simply looking at one square of the quilt.

It isn't JUST the fact that character A is cool and character B is also cool and their rival... it's so much more complex than that.

Character A has several rivals, there's an SS-class bounty on their head, and everyone's out to kill them, so they have unique intros with everyone (for a famous example).

Does that always get expressed well? Not always, but I think the attempt more than makes up for it.

Nowadays even fans are making fan-made clash intros!

Hello there!

I'm wondering, and I know it would be a bit of extra work, but could you maybe put in a color palette on the description of the characters?

I always have a hard time imagine skin and hair colors and Google often shows different shades etc...

I'd like to doodle some of the characters at some point and while I might not even publish these, I want to be as true as possible. While I could potentially use artistic freedom for hair colors and do with different shades etc, I won't do that for skin colors so a color palettes could be my best bet.

I of course would understand if that's too much work, in that case I apologize in advance!

So I’ve been thinking a lot about this question for the past few days (which is why it’s taken me so long to answer 😅).

I’ve debated a lot about what you’re talking about, basically creating a vision board for my characters, and I honestly don’t think I can do it.

It’s not even that it would be hard, but I’m just not the type of person to go about creating things like that. I’m not as creative as I like to think I am 🙃.

BUT I did decide to try and see if I can find a character creator to give a base look of all the counselors. I stumbled upon Picrew and I’m going to update all the intro posts with these photos to give folks a base line on how the counselors look.

While there are a few things I wish I could change (mostly clothing) I’m very happy with them overall.

BUT PART 2, I also notice that you specifically ask about the color palette. That’s something that I actually never really thought about, I think that would actually be easier for me to do but it would be something I’d have to think about. When I think about most of the counselors I just think of a mix of blacks, whites, greens and browns. So that’s probably something for me to think about.

(Also while making these, I realized that most of the counselors have brown hair. I played myself forgetting about that cause I was POSITIVE four of them had black hair. Nope. 7 browns, 3 blondes, 2 black, and 1 ginger.)

Elijah/Elaine 'Lee' Ferguson [he/him, or she/her, 23] has never been serious for more than fifteen minutes in their entire life. Your breakup lasted fourteen minutes. You and Lee had dated for a year and a half; which throughout they were an amazing partner. Though clingy and attached at times, Lee is loyal to a fault. Their face is diamond shaped with silver spider-bite piercings, a sliver right eyebrow piercing, a sliver septum piercing, a silver star-shaped tongue piercing, black cartilage piercings, and silver ear piercings. Their nose is slightly crooked due to it being broken in a fight as a teen (they definitely lost, by the way). Their eyes are light blue. Elaine has straight black hair that is cut in a bob, just to her chin, with bangs. Multiple strands are dyed an electric blue. Elijah has straight black hair that is cut into a shag haircut, just reaching his shoulders. Multiple strands are dyed an electric blue. Their usual clothing style is grunge and emo; dark graphic tees, long sleeves, ripped jeans, zipped jackets, fingerless gloves, cargo pants, combat boots, studded belts, distressed tights. They wear multiple pieces of jewelry, including an assortment of rings. One of these is a ring with a black onyx stone which was gifted to them by MC on their sixth month anniversary. Multiple band bracelets are on both of their wrists. They have multiple tattoos, most of them being smaller ones done by Damien. Their significant tattoos include: knuckle tattoos that spell 'LONE WOLF' (done illegally at 15 by a 27 year old man they met that night), a heart shaped tramp stamp, and a black star matching the other members of Mary Jane.
