ironically i love thrifting but ive never thought about using ebay, do you have any tips or keywords you use on it to find deals and shifty stuff/wording to look out for?

honestly I don't find ebay to be shifty for buying stuff! people are scared about using it sometimes and I think it's a little funny lol I guess the tip would be that if you search for an item with vague enough terms, you'll get some SHEIN-esque mass produced clothes muddying the results. and you know it when you see it, because those listings look like shit btw. this type of thing:

like, these are real listings and everything, and you'd get the product, but they are obviously not what you're looking for. you can ignore these, but if you want to filter them out, you can just narrow the search to SPECIFICALLY pre-owned items.

There isn't really any wording to look out for-- the only other thing would just be to make sure the stuff you get can be returned, bc sellers can specify whether or not they'll take the items back!

I picked up a moderately sized capsule vending machine for 25 bucks and I figured out how to get out of spending double that importing new keys / locks from the US.

The locks on these things just screw onto a 1/4" threaded rod. The locking mechanism stops it from turning & the key gives you a grip to hold on to. I don't need it to lock, so I just made a thing that screws onto the rod out of stuff from the hardware store for maybe 4 bucks.

The wingnut makes it easy to unscrew by hand, and the washers make it fill out the slot for the lock. This is necessary because the 2 locks are also necessary structural components of the device- one bolts the front panel closed and the other bolts the top and bottom together through a long rod.

Very excited about my low cost project. No idea what I'm going to put in it.

Looking at Wish, I just keep thinking of the people who called Frozen a 'lazy movie' because they used really similar face shapes for Anna, Elsa and their mother.

Look at the ice and snow effects in that movie. Listen to the music. Enjoy the comedy. Remember that it isn't even close to the beauty of Disney's best and yet it still remains a work of art.

Now look at Wish as the monkey's paw curls. Hey- at least they use different face shapes.

I really need to start thinking of clothes as a resource scarcity thing so I get rid of more of them.

Like, rather than think "of course I should keep this vest, I wore it one whole time this year!" Think "I have like a million vests and I only wear half of them. Maybe other people would also like vests and I should give some away?"

Because I get away with a lot by living alone in a whole house, but I 1000% have way too many clothes.

Also on a completely unrelated note, I just impulse ordered another vest.

I got a shirt at a thrift store last weekend and out of curiosity I looked up the brand on the tag to see if I could find the retail price, and boy howdy I found it!

$115 on the brand website, $6 at the thrift store
