The travel industry is buzzing with excitement as China, a tourism powerhouse, emerges from its pandemic restrictions. The Middle East region is set to reap the rewards first, with a predicted surge in Chinese visitors. This surge is expected to be reflected at the upcoming Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2024, with Chinese participation anticipated to more than double compared to the pre-pandemic event in 2019. Chinese Outbound Tourism on the Rise: A Boon for the Global Travel Industry Research by Oxford Economics paints a rosy picture for the global travel industry, particularly destinations in the Middle East. Their findings indicate a near-doubling of outbound travel from China in 2024 compared to 2023. This translates to a return close to pre-pandemic levels, with Chinese tourist numbers expected to be only 22% below the peak of 155 million travelers witnessed in 2019. This translates to a significant boost in global tourism spending, with Chinese tourists spending a staggering $250 billion overseas in 2019. The full recovery of the Chinese outbound market is projected to occur in 2025, with the Middle East leading the way as the first region to regain its pre-pandemic Chinese tourist influx. ATM 2024: A Hub for Capitalizing on the Chinese Tourism Boom Underscoring this optimistic outlook, the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2024, scheduled for May 6th-9th at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), expects to welcome a staggering double the number of Chinese exhibitors and travel professionals compared to the 2019 event. This signifies a strong commitment from the Chinese travel industry to reconnect with Middle Eastern destinations and cater to the anticipated surge in Chinese tourist arrivals. The lifting of China's strict COVID-related travel restrictions in January 2023 proved to be a turning point. Chinese tourists, eager to explore the world once again, flocked to travel booking platforms. According to data from the Chinese travel site Trip.com, bookings for overseas travel during the Chinese New Year holiday period in 2023 soared by a remarkable 540% compared to the same period in 2022. Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME for Arabian Travel Market, provides valuable insights into the evolving Chinese tourist market: "Last year, some analysts predicted a rebound in the Chinese outbound market, with estimates reaching around six million travelers per month by the summer of 2023. This optimism was fueled by pent-up demand, particularly among young, affluent Chinese travelers." However, Ms. Curtis acknowledges that the initial rebound wasn't as robust as many travel professionals had anticipated. Looking forward, the outlook is considerably brighter: "Analysts are now confident that Chinese tourist numbers will double year-on-year in 2024. Major destinations in the Middle East are poised for a quicker recovery than any other region globally, especially in the luxury travel segment." This positive sentiment is further reinforced by recent spending data for the 2024 Chinese New Year holiday period. Data from the Chinese payment platform Alipay reveals a 7% increase in the number of Chinese overseas transactions compared to 2019. This signifies a renewed eagerness among Chinese travelers to explore the world and spend their money on international travel experiences. Popular Middle Eastern Destinations for Chinese Tourists The Middle East offers a diverse range of destinations that cater to the preferences of Chinese tourists. According to Ms. Curtis, the most popular destinations include: Dubai, the dazzling metropolis in the United Arab Emirates, remains a top draw, having welcomed over one million Chinese visitors in 2019. Saudi Arabia's AlUla, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its stunning ancient ruins and breathtaking landscapes, is attracting growing interest from Chinese travelers seeking unique cultural experiences. Egypt, the cradle of civilization, with its iconic pyramids and rich history, continues to hold a strong appeal for Chinese tourists. Jordan, another historical and cultural treasure trove, offers visitors the opportunity to explore Petra, the ancient city carved into the rose-red sandstone cliffs. These destinations, along with others throughout the Middle East, are well-positioned to capitalize on the influx of Chinese tourists in 2024 and beyond. ATM 2024: A Platform for Knowledge Sharing and Innovation ATM 2024 is not just about showcasing destinations and travel products. The event also provides a valuable platform for industry professionals to learn about the latest trends and insights into the Chinese tourism market. A Thriving Middle Eastern Tourism Industry The anticipated surge in Chinese tourism in 2024 presents a golden opportunity for the Middle Eastern travel industry. ATM 2024 serves as a central platform for industry professionals from around the world to connect, explore new partnerships, and gain valuable insights into the evolving Chinese tourist market. With its focus on innovation and knowledge sharing, ATM 2024 empowers participants to capitalize on this tourism boom and contribute to a thriving travel industry in the Middle East and beyond. FAQs: Q: Why is the Middle East expected to see a surge in Chinese tourists in 2024? Re-opening Chinese Tourists is helping Alipay, Wechat Pay go back to Vietnam
Tumblr media
China has listed Vietnam as a country China’s group tours can be conducted starting from March 15, according to Peng Shituan, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam.
That is a big opportunity for Vietnamese tourism because of the explosive buying of Chinese travelers. However, like the third problem that FinFan mentioned in the article “China reopens the tour to Vietnam, what is the chance for us to lure Chinese travelers? payment method is always a big problem for both sides to deal with.
For Chinese tech companies, these globe-trotting consumers serve as an entry point into overseas markets. Mobile payment systems Alipay and WeChat Pay have been able to partner with international brands, retailers, and airports eager to capitalize on Chinese tourists – despite having low penetration outside of China (including Vietnam).
The importance of the contribution of Chinese tourists to Vietnam’s tourism
Before the pandemic, Chinese travelers had been also among the top 10 markets where tourists spend and stay long in from 2010-2019 (according to the statistic of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism). For this reason, China is often the giant market for Vietnamese tourism.
Will this re-opening period help Alipay and WeChat Pay go back to Vietnam?
Let’s look back on the journey of Alipay and WeChat in the Vietnamese payment market!
In contrast side, the big fintech companies in China have been also paying attention to penetrating the global market, which Vietnam takes part in.
According to research firm Analysis, Alipay and WeChat Pay are the country’s two largest mobile payment solutions, together controlling about 90 percent of the domestic industry.
Read more:
What are Alipay and WeChat Pay?
However, the two have yet to make a dent in the global payments market. That’s where Chinese tourists come in (including Vietnam).
The most obvious action that shows this attention in the Vietnamese market is the signing of a strategic partnership agreement with the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (Napas) in Hanoi on November 10th, 2017.
After 2 years of operating well and becoming an important part of cross-border payment between Vietnam and China, all the activities of Alipay in Vietnam were suspended due to COVID-19.
Towards WeChat Pay, on November 13th, this company announced the official payment connection in Vietnam through cooperation with domestic e-wallet VIMO to accept payments for Chinese tourists.
However, like Alipay, because of the effect of COVID-19, the appearance of this mobile payment has reduced significantly.
Re-opening opportunities or challenges for Alipay and WeChat Pay to go back to Vietnam?
After 3 years can go outside even of their cities because of the pandemic, China’s citizens more than ever desire to travel abroad, and the nearest country is Vietnam. This is a big opportunity for Alipay and WeChat Pay can go back to Vietnam to bring the best payment experience for those travelers.
The second opportunity is based on the payment habits that have been changed by Chinese people through the pandemic, “payment without cash or payment without touch” has become more and more popular and is a trend in China market.
On the other hand, there are still challenges for these 2 big fintech companies.
The first one is the Vietnamese payment habit. In Vietnam, many people are still often using cash for transfers and trades.
Secondly, in case of not using cash, MoMo and VNPAY will be the first and second choices of Vietnamese people for mobile payment (not VIMO which connected to WeChat Pay in 2017). For this reason, WeChat Pay and Alipay should cooperate with these 2 big mobile payments in Vietnam to give the best experience for customers in Vietnam.

Digital Vaccination Certificate: Η Κίνα καθιερώνει "διαβατήριο υγείας" για τα διεθνή ταξίδια
Tumblr media
India Extends E-Visa Facility for Chinese Tourists
Tumblr media
In a bid to draw in more tourists from China, India has extend e-visa facility for Chinese travelers, timing it to coincide with the visit of President Xi Jinping to India, the Indian embassy here said on Saturday. Xi arrived in the historic coastal city of Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu on Friday for the second informal meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India has declared a five-year tourist e-visa with multiple entry facilities for Chinese travelers, coinciding with the present visit of President Xi in a bid to attract more tourists, the embassy said in an announcement. "It is anticipated that this unilateral liberalization of e-TV for Chinese nationals can any enhance people-to-people exchanges between the 2 countries and encourage a lot of Chinese tourists to decide on Bharat as a destination for commercial enterprise functions," it said. India has already been providing an e-visa facility for Chinese tourists for a few times. however the number of Chinese visitors has not been increased a lot of. Last year only 2.5 lakh Chinese visited India against 7.5 Indians who toured China. Now the e-visa facility has been any liberalized for Chinese nationals. On Friday, India declared to include Chinese nationals in the five-year e-facility, which is being provided to tourists from a large range of countries, officials here said. The visa fee for the five-year multiple-entry will be USD 80, the release said. In addition, it's also been set that prospective tourists can avail single entry 30-day validity e-Tourist Visa (e-TV) at a reduced visa fee of USD 25. For a 30-day e-TV during the months of Apr to June, the visa fee will be only USD 10, it said. The one-year multiple-entry e-TV will still be offered however at a reduced visa fee of USD 40, the release said. Besides, the existing e-medical visa, e-conference visa, and the one-year multiple-entry e-business visa can still be issued from the web platform of Indian visas. A number of nations are creating efforts to woo Chinese tourists as they form the biggest chunk of tourists in the world. Last year, about 150 million Chinese nationals created outbound journeys to various parts of the globe. Priceless moment with a group of Chinese tourists during belly dance and Sufi Dance. It’s funny because it’s ridiculousness bud sad at the same time, due the paradigm of the times in which we are living today, in which people hace a unstoppable craving for experiencing reality, shows, and whatever amazing or impressive happens, through a small screen instead of actually enjoying it with their senses. Then there is an obsession of storage infinite non sense audiovisual material which they will almost never see. I am struggling with this problem on a daily basis my work, as continuously people believe with the right to be on the first line of battle of everything that happens and get in the middle of my way while i am working, let’s say, a wedding or whatever event is going on. Isn’t the first time my camera focus gets out of control because of someone stepping within my lens and whatever is happening, or that i crash with someone when i need to move as the motive is in action and movement. Then I hit with an army of grandmas and other people with cellphones on their hands. Listen, technology is so useful, but let’s find a balance with it and don’t look like idiots or pretend that we are capricious spoiled kids which needs to be satisfied at any price. . . . . #capadocia #capadócia #turkish #chinesetourist #chinese #capadociaturkey #streetphotography #kapadokia #streetphotogra #bellydance #streetscene #streetlifeworldwide #turkey #turkeyday #türkiye #türkiye #tourists #travelpgotography #ridiculo #tourism #ridiculousness #türkish #ridiculous #middleeast #middleastern #streetphotography #streetphotography_color #fotografiadeviajes #travelphotos #turquia🇹🇷 (en Capadócia, Turquia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHz-b7gjiGE/?igshid=b41xtqiiworb

“...how much leeway and budget does a chef have on creating the breakfast menu?
When planning a breakfast menu for hundreds of hotels, it’s more complex than ordering boxes of cereal and fresh fruit. Items must be affordable and available across a variety of geographic locations. Hotels must be equipped to serve dishes to meet brand standards.
Hotels try to build their breakfast offering around a brand’s attributes and targeted customers...
Chef David McCann of Dromoland Castle, a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts in County Clare, Ireland, explains that as an independent luxury hotel, he has greater freedom to buy key ingredients for his menu.
McCann says the kitchen specially stocks Marmite in case any of the castle’s British guests request it. He can bake the castle’s famous Irish Soda brown bread daily while providing a range of gluten-free and vegetarian dishes without having to remain within brand parameters set by corporate food and beverage departments...”
