people travel to the upper heart of southhampton each year for one of the most sought after cosmetic surgeons in america. despite marrying into a moderate family wealth, dr. brooks always took pride in the fact he built a fortune and reputation of his own from the ground up.

unless you witnessed the whirlwind romance between the young medical student and law student, it would appear that the wife of dr brooks couldn’t be further than suited for him. while he'd grown to value status, talking investments and flaunting his deep pockets at charity benefits, she wore her heart on her sleeve with the worthy causes she worked for. she never cared much for her parents’ money that would one day be left for her.

cieran’s mother was devoted to her work, particularly in her latter years as an overqualified legal officer for family services. it became known that on several occasions she would be predisposed to open their home to a child in need until they found their way into foster care. even if she was sometimes distracted, growing up, cieran could always depend on her as something stable.

when it came to his father, he was raised with one rule “ good things come to those who work hard, who aren’t afraid to play it rough and hurt feelings, cier ”. it only took him starting to grow into his own morals before he realised his dad was no hero. even when he was still a hero in the younger boy’s eyes, there were missed birthdays, missed sports games, and promises always pushed out to a later time. it all left cieran desparate for the pride and unconditional love of his father that was always twenty steps out of reach.

it was his mom and grandfather who took him to his first tennis match in new york that piqued the interest. then it seemed the powers that be had a plan for him when he first held a racket. not so much for the love he had for it but for the natural talent that seemed destined to stop the world from spinning to watch. he was quickly signed to one of the best junior coaches in the area and that soon evolved to games in junior events to a place at a top tennis academy.

it was when cieran was becoming an official ‘ american up and comer to watch ’ his father started giving him the attention he’d always desperately wanted. only both his desire to play for the love of the sport and his want for his father’s attention now became something that... he didn’t. after more than eighteen years of wishing, now he resented being his father’s new pride and boasting right. whilst still busier than ever in the world of surgery, his father positioned himself front and centre when it came to the guidance of cieran’s management. there was always a better coach to be had, a better game tactic to focus on, better sponsors... resentment only grew for his father when cieran discovered he was being unfaithful to his mom.

ranked number fifteen worldwide and climbing at age twenty five, when a bad rotator cuff injury took him out of the running for months worth of tournaments, the first thing cier felt was... relief.

cier’s life has settled to a slow in his hometown of the hamptons while he undergoes rehab for his injury.

I had a really useful tutorial with Cieran about my adverts and the best way of presenting them. He mentioned how useful the 10% statistic is a really easy one to visualise and I should try and find some intersting avenues to showcase my content. whether this could be having 10 seconds with only one of them with a pocket or 1/10 posters having a pocket.

Who wakes up first? // "We do share a bedroom. As I said before, they don't quite make their mark in a significant fashion on our space. The shrine they keep is in its own room. So, the bedroom's rather unchanged." He idly flexes his hands. "We do things together; disrobing, nightly hygiene, sometimes bedtime reading. How do you comfort Cieran when they have a nightmare or anxiety? // "...I haven't admitted this to them, and I'm still guilty of it, but I sometimes cast Sleep on them when they're in the middle of a nightmare. I don't dare to imagine what they could possibly be dreaming of, given...multiple factors." He sighs softly, a troubled look half-taking his face. "Easing their waking anxieties is much easier. We worked well together during our adventure, and I believe we would do so again if the world called for it, but as it stands currently? Well...I'm not well-equipped to grant blessings, and they don't have a teacher's patience."

He thinks for a moment, then strokes his chin. "...I enjoy when they speak to be quiet. Prayer, normal speaking, in libraries..." He clears his throat quietly. His first instinct was to answer differently.

Temptation in a Kilt CH 1

fun little find at a local bookstore, they sell a lot of these old romance novels they pick up at estate sales. Every now and again I drop in to pick up a cheesy romance book and my partner and I read through them chapter by chapter until we both get lost in an ADHD activity frensy, but the books help keep us on a task.

hard to read aloud if you can't do a good scottish accent, which I cannae, but my partner puts on a fantastic show for me.

So far we've got a traditional 'met at royal banquet' kind of setting. We've got our MC, Cieran (I looked up how this could be pronounced and there were like 3 different ways and we settled on KEER-IN bc it seemed like the one we would mess up the least), oldest of three sons who inherited his father's estate, etc, etc, general male lead stuff, haven't seen too much of his personality yet but he seems to be the stereotypical 'my brothers are idiots and I'm very serious' guy. Our female lead, Rosalia, is honestly the star of the show, we've got our typical 'parents are broke and trying to marry me off to a gross dude for m o n e y' thing going on. I was kind of guessing the way the story was going to go when we were introduced to her via her mom screaming at her in the banquet hall about how she was 21 now, nO oNe WiLl MaRrY yOu kind of scene, you know. The male and female lead lock eyes and gush about it endlessly (they haven't spoken at all in the first chapter'. Rosalia's mother, unnamed so far I think (she may have been named but her character is basically 'bitchy mom' so I kept reffering to her as that), finds said 'gross dude' she's supposed to marry who basically offers an open marriage after she bears him an heir, basic plot kind of stuff for these books. The world is really small up to this point? Like, my partner and I kept kind of flip-flopping between 'yeah, this is about right for these kinds of books' and 'okay this is a little different' kind of stuff. Maybe my scope on this kind of literature is still small. Work in progress i'll probably return to later. Anyway, Rosalia and Cieran part ways at the banquet, again they haven't spoke at all, and Rosalia returns home to discuss her future being married to aforementioned 'gross dude' with his gross dude plans and sexual propositions. They give us a sweet older cook who's kind of a grandma to her and a stable boy who sees her (platonically) as like a sibling/friend as a relief from her otherwise shitty life with her mean ass mom and complacent dad (dad's still a dick in my option for sitting by while the mom does all of the forced marriage arranging/ beatings), we see a little bit of her life there and kind of see a peak of her personality, which is a little one dimensional so far but to be fair we're only in first chapter, BUT THEN

we get like a 'mulan' moment???? She cuts off all her hair and runs away in the night with one of her family's horses???? I know it's a little cliché but I didn't expect it with the way the chapter was going, honestly. She takes off towards Northern Scotland where she has a grandmother she's never met (her mom was an englishwoman and didn't want to associate w/ any of dad's family, but she's gotten letters/ gifts from her grandmother), the last scene in the chapter is her passing out on her horse but like, I read a tiny bit into the second chapter and she was FOUND by Cieran's party on their way back to his estate (obv she's still in disguise) So that's my poor, uncultured review of Temptation in a Kilt Chapter 1 (and kind of a tiny bit of 2.)

our CIERAN BROOKS (christopher briney) is looking for an ADOPTED SIBLING (m/f/nb) with the faceclaim of (utp!). the character’s age should be (21-27). their mother wears her heart on her sleeve, became a lawyer for all the right reasons. working as a legal officer for family services just outside of queens (or utp, but somewhere close-ish to southampton) she brought home a couple of kids who had no place to stay, but they always found their way into the foster system and later to other adopted families. but when YOUR CHAR was brought home, she couldn’t shake the thought of how hard it was for teenaged kids to find adopted families. for some reason, anyway, your char just ended up completing the family. basically, i’m dying for some seth/ryan/kirsten (“the o.c.”) loosely inspired family vibes. their dad is never around, caught up by money, status, and the lifestyle of the city. their dad is having an affair, and currently on cieran (and possibly your char) know. cieran likes to think he’s protective and looks out for your char, but maybe your char looks out for him just as much if not more. you DO NOT need to contact the mun before applying.

Gwen is a charming, toned individual, with tanned skin and unique hair. Their hair is short and curly, and the colour splits directly down the middle, dividing into black and white sections.

The have narrow eyes which are black in colour, though shine a completely different hue when light hits them. Despite their black appearance, Gwen puts black contacts over too of them. Their eyelashes are longer, and a peculiar combination— They match the colour of their hair, with one eye having black eyelashes, and the other having white.

Their casual wear consists of a black turtleneck, with a dark blue dress shirt thrown overtop. They have a bolo tie around their neck, with an emerald acting as its pendant. This is accompanied with black trousers, which cuff at the bottom, and brown ankle-length boots.

The pendant they wear around their neck originally belonged to the first demon king, though came into Giesbach’s possession after the previous king’s death. So now, because they believe that it was their father’s originally, the Tsukinami’s are currently trying to take it back; though they have no idea whats inside of it.

Gwen, as viewed by Karlheinz, is ‘a broken vessel’ and according to him, ‘is not as powerful as they once were.’ While they don’t hold nearly as much magic power as he does at the moment, given his influence they share in his pursuit for knowledge.

Gwen took some traits from Karlheinz , given that he was the prominent ‘parental figure’ in their life. But that doesn’t mean they necessarily act like him, even though most people who meet them might think that way.

Whilst at first, Gwen seems to incredibly intelligent and manipulative, often manipulating others to do their bidding, or at the very least taking the fall for them. They often poke and prod at the weakest points of others, if only to drag out their ‘full potential.’ This is still the case, but doesn’t really scratch the surface. They’re actually very adventurous, and reckless. They’ll acknowledge the consequences of certain actions, but will often dive into the situation anyway, if only for the experience.

As an artist, and assassin, they’re constantly looking for new inspiration. Be it through someone strong, who can prove to be their ‘muse’ in battle… Or someone who they feel they can paint one day.

While Karlheinz is crueler to others, namely his sons, Gwen directs the same kind of harshness and punishment towards themselves. They view themselves as an anomaly, convincing themselves that there is no place in the Human or Demon worlds for them to belong. Thanks to this, they hold themselves to standards too high for even Karlheinz to reach, and believe that any mishap, no matter how big or small, is their fault. They are constantly thinking over and ‘revising’ their own actions, almost always giving themselves harsh punishments if they didn’t preform perfectly.

One of their most prominent features is how full of life they seem to be— despite their actual views on living, and the childhood they had to endure. They’re quite sociable, even though they rarely give out information on themselves. They seem to blend into crowds easily, and are good at reading others.

{kid years}

Gwen was taken in by Karlheinz at age six, with the man requesting the kid specifically. Given the nature of the Exicor family, Gwen couldn’t refuse, and thus their contract was formed; with Karlheinz’s sigil branding itself in Gwen’s left eye.

Gwen was taken to Eden Castle, where they were to assimilate into Karl’s way of life. As soon as they entered the castle, they were subjected to the harshest treatments the man could think of, with his one excuse being ‘your full potential is most important.’

Given their age, they were still learning to read, write, and speak properly, though Karl paid this no mind. Instead forcibly speeding up their developmental processes. This will effect their learning and self image later in life.

Karl instills fear into Gwen like no one else before. Creating such genuine fear of such basic aspects of life. The most prominent is the fear of sleep. Karl, along with some other test subjects in Eden Castle created a such nightmarish environment for Gwen, that now they forgo sleep entirely.

The man took extra precaution to make Gwen’s developmental years as hellish as possible, so they’ll develop a dependence and fear for him. Believing they can’t survive without him, but also can’t survive with him.

{teen years}

at age twelve, gwen was ‘presented’ to the political scene as Karl’s right hand. His own wave of controlled chaos as they weaved their way around politics. they had met Richter soon after, the man choosing to train Gwen for similar reasons as his brother—though the methods may have been different, Gwen would argue that Richter was more brutish than his brother.

Richter was rigorous with his training, and while he didn’t voice his wishes, Gwen could tell that he was training them this way for a reason. It irked them, being out through such regiments with little to no chance to ask questions. It was like they were a weapon instead of a person.

alongside training them, richter and gwen worked together as colleagues— with gwen’s position technically being above his. if asked to do paperwork for him though, they oblige simply because he’s older; as a thank you for training them.

their teen years were a lot smoother than their kid years, given that karl didn’t bother them much since they were so busy with his work. though one day, after a heated argument and eventual fight between Gwen and Richter— one which irked Karl’s nerves more than he’d like to admit— Gwen was promptly kicked out of Eden Castle, and thus vanishing from the public eye.

while to almost everyone else, gwen appears to have ‘disappeared’, they’re still expected to complete all of their necessary paperwork. others find it strange, how their presence seems to be so prominent, yet not there at all.

their main goal now though, is to make the most out of their last few years— whether they complete their contract or die. there’s still so many questions they have unanswered, and still so much room for them to grow. for now, they need to focus on tying up loose ends. they’ll end up encountering and people who will have a lasting impact on their life during this final stretch… be that for better or worse, they aren’t sure.

Basically their vibe is exactly the same vibe as Professor X and Magneto. They were friends, once. And they still hold affection for that part of their lives. But both had different ideals on how things should go.

I do kind of have thoughts on what I want both 'arcs' to be.

Season 1 would look more at the divide between Magic and Non-Magic communities. Jake learning how to handle how Magic differs from Human laws. Plots like his friends finding out that he's not Human, the whole 'well Dad's been a Werewolf for a few years' thing, everything with the Huntsclan, with them being the Season's 'big bad'.

Season 2's plots are more about the Magic Community and their differences. Sometimes its more cultural differences, either through species or region(like with the Dragon Summit). Sometimes it's plots like how people in the community can still hate other parts of the community(the Family Reuinion episode showing how that side of the family sees Dragons as 'above' other Magic Creatures, how Humans would consider them on the same level). The Dark Dragon being this Season's 'big bad' highlighting all of this.
