hi hi! first of all I want to state how much I adore your IF so far, I haven't found many IF that are purely slice of life and I am loving it ❤️ 😍 💖 second! do you have any recommendations for IFs? I've just started moving away from the CoG forums and the content here on tumblr is just 🤌 but I'm not too sure where to start? tysm 😊
I mean, I have so many recommendations tbqh. It's a hell of a list and hopefully, I haven't forgotten anyone by the end. I would say that if you've been around for a hot minute you probably know most of these but I'm old and rarely see new stuff atm because I'm a busy bean so...
Recs under the cut;
@northern-passage is such an easy recommendation for me. I'm not super into your more 'classic' fantasy as a genre but Kit has really built up their characters to be something special. The concept of the hunter is a great one and the branching Kit does is insane. I'm so interested to see where it goes and also ready for it to destroy me emotionally.
I haven't played @speakergame in a little while but the cosy vibes I try to get into YLAF are also here. It's not slice of life but it's similar to that with a heap of supernatural stirred in. I'm also excited for @partiallystarsif, which promises to be a game that I've been wishing someone would write.
Project Hadea by @nyehilismwriting is one of the most top tier sci-fi I've read in a while. It has a great MC, a badass partner in Nash and also BUGS. Again, I'm super looking forward to seeing what happens in the next chapter after that cliffhanger. Shit is about to hit the fan and I am here for it.
@if-eventhorizon is written by actual love of my life Brigid. Event Horizon is your pretty typical crew in space doing stuff they shouldn't be kind of sci-fi and I adore it! Can't wait to find out what everyone has done in their past to be there and unravel the situation. Love it! Brigid is also an incredibly talented artist, also writes @if-closedloop and...
@if-lostbirds is again written by Brigid, and although they profess post-apocalyptic Western sci-fi to be niche, I whole heartedly disagree. I adore the writing in this one, they really did something there and I think everyone will get something out of this one. If you're looking for something a little different with fewer (but super meaningful) choices then this is for you! Also I did convince them to put the big worm back into it so... worm.
For someone who would say she doesn't like a western, @larkin-if is also a bit of me. It's got vampires and cool character dynamics between the Preacher (MC) and their father figure Wyatt. Not to mention the ROs are all really cool. I'm excited to meet Ace in the future but it's the whole plot of attempting to hide your true identity that really hooked me in.
@bodycountgame is currently on a little bit of a hiatus because Nell is super busy with real life 😷 but it's still a stand out fave for me, undoubtedly worth the wait. If you want something that's campy, written in proper British dialect and is basically love island with a hell of a twist then this is for you! I can't recommend body count enough, it's what got me moved way from CoG games and into this little community we have!
@thistooshallpass-if is an IF with some of my favourite characters (not hurt by the fact that thyme is also one of my fave people!) I can't wait to see where it goes as I've been promised angst and knowing them I have no doubt! I'm also mega excited for @writingnights because different takes on supernatural creatures is always fun to me.
When Twilight Strikes by @evertidings is popular for a reason. I'm a few chapters behind but just writing about it has made me want to sit down and catch up! Kristi's characters are fun and feel like people to me with their real quirks, which is always something I enjoy. I can't wait to solve the mystery with this one.
@attollogame is a pretty hard one to describe to me so I'd say just play it? The writing and lore surrounding it is so so solid. It's all pretty much just a vibe, and a good one at that. I am not up to date at all but everyone should be better than me and read it!
Golden by @milaswriting is amazing! It's a supernatural romance game and you can just tell that Mila cares so much about the characters she writes, it really comes through in her writing. She's also over at @milaswrittenworld and I'd encourage a follow all around because she is just a really lovely gem of a person.
I haven't read @ofna in a little while but I absolutely adored what I did read (god knows how many updates ago it was). The writing is amazing and, again, I can't wait to get to solve the mystery 👀
I've undoubtedly forgotten so many but these are ones that come to my covid addled mind 😅 I hope this is a good starting place for you, anon 💛

OC-tober 2023, Day 7: Personality (bweird prompt list)
Tumblr media
Closed Loops' (@if-closedloop) redone prologue was so good, I feel trapped already. I'm really attached to making my character a inquisitive crybaby. Seek out what is hidden/ learn about the world + CRY ABOUT IT/make other people uncomfortable.
At the same time, I'm obsessed with the Normal personality description: You are completely and utterly normal. Wow. Good for you
Anyway, check it out for a bad time. (Your MC is having a bad time. I'm having a great time)

Hello there! It's a long shot, but do you guys have any IF recommendations where romance is not a primary or secondary focus? (Like, the story has ROs, but romance is a very side matter in the story?) Sorry if it's not understandable English is not my first language :(
Hi Anon,
Romance is definitely a bit part of the IF medium, but there are still some projects where romantic/relationship options are included but romance is/can be a side matter in the story. We have a whole category about romance options/companions in our database already, if you want to check this out.
You can also find a handful below:
Completed:
A Midsummer Night's Choice by Kreg Segall
The Price of Freedom: Innocence Lost by Avery Moore
Lost Heir: The Fall of Daria by Mike Walter
Sixth Grade Detective by Logan Hughes
The Eagle's Heir by Jo Graham and Amy Griswold
Demos:
Closedloop by @if-closedloop
Crimson Rose and White Lily by @manonamora-if
The Numbers Game by @thenumbersgameif
Turncoat Chronicles by @zincalloygames

crossover? tyche and *stéphanie* ?????
in reference to this post
brigid (@thirtybythirty) i have a crossover with our characters that primarily started with both the cast of lost birds and a life supreme, but eventually expanded it to include their characters from event horizon and closedloop as well.
while the event horizon blog is currently privated, and so i can't link the post explaining the other casts roles in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, tyche is described as a "corporate bitch" who works for militech and idolizes her superior, eris.
while tyche and stéphanie seem unlikely, tyche has been given so much depth that isn't seen when she's busy crawling in the vents and being evil aboard a spaceship, and the crossover has been a wonderful opportunity to learn more about her! she is a character who is deeply committed to family and has had to take care of herself for much of her life, and that twines well alongside stéphanie (who lives in much the same way.)
their relationship is rooted in female friendship and the depths of obsession, loyalty, and the sort of passion and adoration that stems of it. stéphanie has not had many chances to have another female friend her age, and she and tyche take care of one another. tyche understands the need for homemaking and caution and does not stress stéph out, while stéph is casually more and more affectionate and adoring of tyche as their friendship grows.
in their friendship, i also get to explore a more contented side of stéphanie, rather than her usual on-edge, irritated, bound to explode from stress persona.
had stéphanie seen the corporate bitch side of tyche upon first meeting her, no, they would not bond nor work. but she did not: she grows to know and love her as a person before discovering her cutthroat ambition, and so the two of them get to live in love and loyalty to one another.
they are the first femme4femme couple that brigid and i have made and they share femininity as something special that they take care of one another with: tyche is so very pretty and stéphanie does not feel as though she compares, while tyche thinks of stéph as even prettier and will do things like makeup for her to dote and build her confidence.
ultimately, while they seem extremely unlikely upon first glance, they both value quiet domesticity where attainable, and this has been a wonderful way to get to play around with both of their personalities. thank you so much for asking!

Day 2 of our Pride Month Event, with Brigid!
Brigid, Author of Event Horizon
[EVENT HORIZON] is a science-fiction-horror story, set far into a future in which humans are not alone in a hostile galaxy.
The Failsafe has been activated. War lingers on the horizon. Five years ago, you were one of the last people to be selected for the Failsafe and Final Stand Programs. You were frozen in time, placed into orbit at the edge of the solar system. And now, you’re hurtling through space towards a ship you’ve never seen before. The Nomad. A secret mission beyond the edge of the solar system, to stop the Enemy before they can begin their second invasion. A suicide mission. A point of no return.
Read more about Event Horizon here. Play the Demo here or here. Brigid is also the author of Lost Birds (link) and CLOSEDLOOP (link).
[INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT UNDER THE CUT!]
Q1 - Please, introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your project(s)!
Hi! I'm Brigid, and I'm a writer, artist, and overworked college student, dabbling in writing IF. I've got quite a few projects in the works- all science-fiction, all overly ambitious.
Event Horizon is my main project; the story of crew as mysterious as they are doomed, on a one-way mission to stop the second alien invasion before it can even happen. It's a work of cosmic horror, split off into three massive "timelines", each of which showcases a different aspect of humanity (or lack thereof)- to fight, to change, to remember.
lost birds is a side project; a story told in many voices, all revolving around the end of the world and what comes after. Set nine years after the apocalypse, in the American Southwest, it concerns itself with a dead Ranger's quest for revenge- or something you can convince yourself isn't revenge- across the strange new wasteland, a world as hostile as it is beautiful.
CLOSEDLOOP is another side project; a fast-paced, cyberpunk-inspired tear through a dystopic City. Trapped in a time loop by someone or something calling itself "Control", the MC- just an average Citizen- navigates a day that repeats forever- and the consequences thereof.
In the near-ish future, I intend to publish a VN centered around the concepts of ecological succession, loneliness, persistence, and growth- a culmination of interests, and a capstone project for my art program.
Q2 - What or who are some of your biggest inspirations?
I'm unsurprisingly a huge sci-fi nerd, and it shows. Things like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Interstellar, Annihilation, Mass Effect, and many, many of the pulp sci-fi novels I read as a teen and young adult inspire my love of science-fiction.
Furthermore, my area of study (other than art) is ecology, so nature and the "nature of things" take huge precedence in my works for better or worse. Honestly, anything that captures my attention and thoughts are grounds for inspiration, things like poetry, tarot, paintings, music, obscure scientific theory, philosophical concepts. Or plants. Like 80% of my Event Horizon "research" was a Wikipedia plant rabbit-hole.
Q3- What excites you most about IF? What drew you to the medium?
I ran into IF completely at random- some artists I follow and look up to had posted art of IF characters and settings. Previously, I'd written short stories and bad notes app poetry, but this was more of chance to expand my horizons (pardon the pun). IF excites me because I get to make things- plain and simple. There's a joy to creating these characters, worlds, and stories- and in interacting with them- I hadn't even known was possible until I found IF.
Q4 - Are your characters influenced by your identity? How?
Yes, absolutely. I write what I want to see, and to me, that's greater gender diversity and WLW/NBLW representation in the realm of science fiction.
Science-fiction is male dominated, with a majority of authors and characters being male. The female characters I grew up with were token "girl on the team" characters, and nonbinary characters were often just robots or aliens, or other non-human characters. I wanted to do better for people who were like me, women and other nonbinary people. I wanted to create competent and multidimensional characters who didn't have to identify or appear as men to be treated as such.
As a lesbian, I like writing WLW and NBLW characters. I didn't really grow up with that representation, and when it was present, it felt wrong, usually because it was written off as a joke, or for men by men. By no means are the relationships I write between women (or the women themselves) perfect- but they come from a place of genuine care and nuance, and I sincerely hope the care I put into my characters and their relationships shows throughout my work.
Q5 - What are you most excited about sharing related to your project?
The move to Twine as a medium has been, by far, the most exciting thing to happen to my projects. I've got a lot more fine-tuned control over the way I get to present my work- and I'm just starting out, there's a lot more I can learn.
As far as content goes- there are a few major updates to Event Horizon and CLOSEDLOOP coming this summer, which I'm trying so hard not to spoil just yet.
Q6 - What would you like to see more of in LGBT+ fiction/IF community?
Is it selfish to say more WLW/NBLW characters and relationships written by women and nonbinary people?
Just in general, diverse authors writing diverse stories in a number of genres, anything and everything from slice-of-life to science- fiction.
Q7- Lastly, what advice would you give to your creators and readers?
Be persistent.
First drafts are first drafts for a reason; there is always room for improvement, you just have to be persistent enough to see or seek improvement. Stay curious, enjoy your work, and let the world as a whole inspire you. Make what you'd like to see, most of all. You're the only one who can truly tell your story.

@eco_alternative_solutions_intl came through with their promise some weeks ago and hand delivered and installed our first biodigester system. We’ve been waiting for the fermentation process to start and now that the gas’s is igniting, we can start to feed the digester and harness the gas. Next update will hopefully involve us cooking our first meal with homemade fuel! Find out more about biodigester systems and other sustainable options by following @eco_alternative_solutions_intl I can definitely support their dream to have everyone in Haiti producing sustainable gas right at home. This form of clean energy can not only put a halt to charcoal production and the use of irreplaceable fossil fuels but can also make a huge difference in any given family’s finances and the perspective on the environment around them. We have our food covered, our water covered, our waste management covered and now we’ll be producing fuel to cook with. With absolutely zero waste. The liquid given off by the biodigester can be used to fertilize our food forest, the scraps and peels of what we harvest will feed the biodigester to give us energy to cook with, and that food will then energize us to continue the cycle. Living sustainable can be #EASI 🙂 ・・・ #growninhaiti #Easi #EcoAlternativeSolutionsInternational #biodigester #closedloop #cleanenergy #biogas #methane #haiti #ayiti #support #sonate #thankyou #grateful #zerowaste #greenerhaiti #transition #youcantoo #organic #natural #growth #ecofriendly #reduce #reuse https://www.instagram.com/p/CB3i-HclF3m/?igshid=fuzakxn89uvs

Went to pull a pump yesterday on a building loop yesterday. But the valves are stuck. They wouldn’t close and are frozen open. So it’s now becomes a weekend job and replacing two victaulic valves. I always try to massage the valves on a PM just to make sure they still open and close when needed. We don’t maintain this site. Even if it’s a slight movement of the valve when the system is running. Will wait to do on another day.
